Pretreatments of wool fabrics with cationic, anionic or non-ionic surfactants were investigated to reduce surface tension and improve the wettability of the fibres in order to promote protease activity on the fibres in subsequent processes. Results showed that an ethoxylated alkyl phosphate (specific anionic surfactant) as well as the widely used non-ionic surfactant was compatible with proteases in the enzymatic treatment of wool. There is therefore a potential for using specific anionic surfactants to achieve efficient enzymatic scouring processes.  相似文献

为提高D-阿拉伯糖醇的产量,研究不同类型表面活性剂对德巴利汉逊酵母(Debaryomyces hansenii)发酵生产D-阿拉伯糖醇的影响。结果表明:阳离子和阴离子表面活性剂对D-阿拉伯糖醇的生成几乎没有影响,部分非离子表面活性剂对D-阿拉伯糖醇的生产有促进作用,其中Trition X-100的影响最为显著。在不同发酵时间加入不同浓度的Trition X-100均对D-阿拉伯糖醇的生产有促进作用,当发酵24 h添加30 g/LTrition X-100时,D-阿拉伯糖醇的产量达到最高(92.9 g/L),相比于对照增加了27.2%。  相似文献

Among several surface active agents tested, both anionic and cationic materials usually caused greater changes in the microflora of treated soil than non-ionic materials, although the effects of a non-ionic formulated mixture of aliphatic alcohols (Off-Shoot T) were considerable. In vitro tests with micro-organisms and earthworms indicated similar differences in response to types of compound. There was a positive correlation between hydrophobicity and biological activity of a series of alkyl phenol ethoxylates in some tests. Although many surfactants caused gross phytotoxicity to cress (Lepidium) seedlings in the laboratory, the growth of barley and pea seedlings in treated soil was significantly decreased only by one cationic material.  相似文献

The milk protein β-lactoglobulin (βLG) dominates the properties of whey aggregates in food products. Here we use spectroscopic and calorimetric techniques to elucidate how anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants interact with bovine βLG and modulate its heat-induced aggregation. Alkyl trimethyl ammonium chlorides (xTAC) strongly promote aggregation, while sodium alkyl sulfates (SxS) and alkyl maltopyranosides (xM) reduce aggregation. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) binds to non-aggregated βLG in several steps, but reduction of aggregation was associated with the first binding step, which occurs far below the critical micelle concentration. In contrast, micellar concentrations of xMs are required to reduce aggregation. The ranking order for reduction of aggregation (normalized to their tendency to self-associate) was C10-C12>C8>C14 for SxS and C8>C10>C12>C14>C16 for xM. xTAC promote aggregation in the same ranking order as xM reduce it. We conclude that SxS reduce aggregation by stabilizing the protein's ligand-bound state (the melting temperature t(m) increases by up to 10°C) and altering its charge potential. xM monomers also stabilize the protein's ligand-bound state (increasing t(m) up to 6°C) but in the absence of charged head groups this is not sufficient by itself to prevent aggregation. Although micelles of both anionic and non-ionic surfactants destabilize βLG, they also solubilize unfolded protein monomers, leaving them unavailable for protein-protein association and thus inhibiting aggregation. Cationic surfactants promote aggregation by a combination of destabilization and charge neutralization. The food compatible surfactant sodium dodecanoate also inhibited aggregation well below the cmc, suggesting that surfactants may be a practical way to modulate whey protein properties.  相似文献

The surfactant-lysozyme interaction was investigated by circular dichroism, fluorescence, UV, dynamic light scattering, surface tension, turbidity measurements and lysozyme activity assay. A new way of refolding of lysozyme was found. It was shown that the lysozyme unfolded by anionic surfactants could be renatured by adding cationic surfactants. That is, lysozyme formed precipitate with anionic surfactants, the precipitates could be dissolved by adding a cationic surfactant solution, and then the lysozyme was refolded to its native state spontaneously. Different couples of anionic surfactants and cationic surfactants including C10SO3/C10NE, C12SO3/C10NE, C10SO3/C12NE, C10SO3/C12NB, C10SO4/C10NE and C12SO4/C10NE (C(n)SO3, C(n)SO4, C(n)NE and C(n)NB represent sodium alkyl sulfonate/sulfate, alkyl triethyl/butyl ammonium bromide respectively) were investigated, all of them gave similar results. The results were explained in terms of the differences between the interaction of anionic-cationic surfactants and that of surfactant-lysozyme. It was thought that the formation of mixed micelles of anionic-cationic surfactants is a more favorable process than that of lysozyme-surfactant complexes, which induces the dissociation of lysozyme-surfactant complexes when cationic surfactants were added.  相似文献

The effect of surfactants on the "fluidity" of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) vesicle membrane was studied by means of the fluorescence depolarization technique with fatty acid fluorescent probes, in which the anthroyloxy group is introduced at different positions along the acyl chain. Three types of surfactants were examined; anionic sodium alkylsulfates, cationic alkyltrimethylammonium chlorides, and non-ionic alkanoyl-N-methylglucamides (MEGA-n). Perturbing effects of the surfactants depended on both the alkyl chain-length and the type of head group. Sodium alkylsulfates with octyl- and decyl-chain and alkyltrimethylammonium chlorides with octyl-, decyl- and dodecyl-chain did not affect the membrane fluidity when incorporated in the membrane, whereas sodium dodecylsulfate and tetradecyltrimethylammonium chloride decreased the membrane fluidity at both gel and liquid crystalline states of the membrane. All the MEGA series surfactants decreased the membrane fluidity, whose perturbing potency was in the order of MEGA-8 less than MEGA-9 approximately equal to MEGA-10. The perturbation at different depths in the membrane by sodium dodecylsulfate and MEGA-9 was also examined. No significant change in the fluidity gradient across the membrane was induced by the addition of these surfactants.  相似文献

Folding and stability of bacterial outer membrane proteins (OMPs) are typically studied in vitro using model systems such as phospholipid vesicles or surfactant. OMP folding requires surfactant concentrations above the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and usually only occurs in neutral or zwitterionic surfactants, but not in anionic or cationic surfactants. Various Gram-negative bacteria produce the anionic biosurfactant rhamnolipid. Here we show that the OMP OmpA can be folded in rhamnolipid at concentrations above the cmc, though the thermal stability is reduced compared to the non-ionic surfactant dodecyl maltoside. We discuss implications for possible interactions between OMPs and biosurfactants in vivo.  相似文献

Disintegration by surfactants of egg yolk phosphatidylcholine vesicles stabilized with carboxymethylchitin was investigated by measuring the amount released of a marker dye from the vesicles. In solutions of pH around 7, anionic and nonionic surfactants caused vesicle disintegration at very low concentrations, while cationic surfactants produced a breakdown of the vesicles at rather high concentrations. Increase in the alkyl chain-length of surfactant molecules brought about decrease in the surfactant concentration at which vesicle disintegration starts. As the length of the polyoxyethylene chain in nonionic surfactant molecules increased, the tendency of vesicle disintegration to occur decreased. Both anionic and cationic surfactants gave clear solutions above their critical micelle concentrations when they acted on the phospholipid vesicles, whereas nonionic surfactants left ghost cell-like debris consisting of carboxymethylchitin molecules in their micellar solutions. The effect of pH on vesicle disintegration was notable for ionic surfactants but not for nonionic surfactants. Thus, anionic surfactants increased the degree of disintegration as pH increased, while cationic surfactants produced an identical vesicle disintegration curve below pH 8 above which the curve started to shift toward the lower concentration region of the agents. These findings were explained in terms of surfactant penetration into phospholipid bilayers and solubilization of phospholipid molecules by surfactant micelles.  相似文献

The effect of several surfactants on peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence (PO‐CL) using oligophenylenevinylene fluorophores was investigated. Among several oligophenylenevinylenes consisting of stilbene units, linearly conjugated ones, such as distyrylbenzene and distyrylstilbene, effectively enhanced PO‐CL efficiency. Various effects of anionic, cationic, amphoteric and non‐ionic surfactants on the CL efficiency of PO‐CL were determined using three oxalates and the distyrylbenzene fluorophore. Anionic and non‐ionic surfactants effectively enhanced CL efficiency, in contrast to the negative effect of cationic and amphoteric surfactants. Non‐ionic surfactants were also effective in CL reactions of oxalates bearing dodecyl ester groups by the hydrophobic interaction between their alkyl chains. Considering these results, the surfactants not only increase the concentrations of water‐insoluble interacting species in the hydrophobic micelle cores, but also control rapid degradation of the oxalates by alkaline hydrolysis. Rheological and thermal properties of agar sol and gel in presence of various cationic, anionic and non-ionic surfactants are reported. The agar used was from the red seaweed Gelidiella acerosa. The gel strength, viscosity, rigidity (G'), gelling temperature and melting temperature were observed to decrease in presence of non-ionic surfactants whereas these were enhanced in presence of ionic surfactants. TGA studies showed that 1.5% agar gels containing non-ionic surfactants lose water at a lower temperature than the control agar gel whereas gels containing ionic surfactants hold on to water more tenaciously. DSC studies, on the other hand, show that the gel to sol transition occurs at lower temperatures in presence of non-ionic surfactants and at higher temperature in presence of ionic surfactants when compared with the control gel. The non-ionic surfactants, Triton X-100 and Brij 35, enabled relatively concentrated agar extractive to be filtered readily, as a result of which water usage in the process could be reduced by 50%. The surfactant was subsequently removed through freeze-thaw operations to restore the gelling capacity of the agar. The finding that 0.3-0.4% (w/v) sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) lowers the sol-gel transition temperature from 41 to 36 degrees C without adversely affecting gel strength is another useful outcome of the study that may enable better formulations of bacteriological agar to be prepared.  相似文献

The three commonly used surfactants viz. anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cationic cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and non-ionic triton X-100 were toxic even at sub lethal levels (1 ppm for 30 days) to 0. mossambicus. Lysosomal stability index (LSI) was lowest in triton-exposed animals in vitro. In vivo, CTAB was the most toxic. SDS, the anionic surfactant was the least toxic. The possible role of surfactant structure, critical micellar concentration (CMC) and metabolism in influencing the toxicity is discussed and mechanism of action via membrane lipid peroxidation is suggested.  相似文献

The effect of surfactants (two cationic, one anionic and three non-ionic) at 0.001, 0.01, 0.1 and 1.0 % concentrations on aflatoxin production, ergosterol content and sugar consumption by Aspergillus parasiticus (NRRL 2999) in YES liquid culture medium is reported. At 0.01% concentration, the cationic surfactants, cetyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (CDAB) and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB), and the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), completely inhibited spore germination, while DTAB also inhibited the production of ergosterol and toxin (p < 0.05). At a concentration of 0.001%, CDAB was found to enhance toxin production, while SDS was found to inhibit it when compared with other surfactants. Non-ionic surfactants, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate (Tween-20), polyoxyethylene lauryl ether (Brij-35) and ethoxylated p-tert-octylphenol (Triton X-100) delayed the spore germination up to day 5 at all concentrations and inhibited toxin and ergosterol production at 0.001% concentration. The affect was found to be dose-dependent from 0.001% to 1%, for Triton X-100 only. Positive correlation between ergosterol content and toxin production in the presence of different surfactants at various time periods (3, 5, 7, 9 and 12 days) was found. Tween-20 was most effective in inhibiting toxin production on day 7, when aflatoxin production was found to be maximal in control group. Sugar consumption was directly proportional to the ergosterol content, showing a significant correlation with aflatoxin production.  相似文献

Useful materials can be made from cycloamylose (CA) and the functional properties of CA could be improved by complexation with surfactants. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used to investigate interactions between CA and surfactants in buffered solutions. Three surfactants with C12 non-polar tail groups and charged [anionic: sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS); cationic: dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)] or non-charged headgroups [non-ionic: polyoxyethylene 23 lauryl ether (Brij35)] were used in this study. The effects of temperature, pH, and salt concentration were also studied. All three surfactants bound to CA; however, Brij35 binding to CA was negligible. Enthalpy changes associated with binding of surfactants to CA were exothermic except for interactions measured at 50 °C. There was no effect of pH on surfactant demicellization or CA binding. Salt concentration affected surfactant demicellization, but the amount of SDS bound to CA at saturation was unaffected by salt. When the titration curves obtained for CA with SDS and DTAB were fitted, it could be analyzed using a model based on a single set of identical sites.  相似文献

Effect of a number of homologous series of cationic and anionic surfactants on yeast cells was examined. It is found that the cellular proteins extraction degree under the surfactants treatment depends on the agents structure. It is established that the highest extraction efficiency among the bisquaternary ammonium compounds is displayed by the decyl derivatives and among sodium alkyl sulfates--by octyl sulfate. The influence of pH, ionic strength and the agent concentration on the proteins extraction degree was studied. It is concluded that the anionic and cationic compounds act on the yeast plasma membrane by the similar way and all the differences observed are just the quantitative ones. It is suggested that the efficiency of the surfactant action on the cell is limited particularly by the ratio of cell wall pore size to the size of micelles formed by the agent in the solution.  相似文献

AIMS: Selection of suitable surfactants for enhancing and stabilizing alpha-amylase of Geobacillus thermoleovorans. METHODS AND RESULTS: Geobacillus thermoleovorans was cultivated in shake flasks containing 50 ml of starch-yeast extract-tryptone (SYT) medium with/without surfactants. Titres of the enzyme in media were monitored. The enzyme was also preserved at 4 degrees C with/without surfactants and enzyme activities were determined. Among polyethylene glycol (PEGs) of different molecular weights, PEG 8000 (0.5%, w/v) caused a slight increase in the enzyme titre, while Tween-20, Tween-40 and Tween-60 (0.03%, w/v) exerted a significant stimulatory effect on enzyme secretion. In the presence of SDS, Tween-80 and cholic acid (0.03%, w/v), the enzyme production was nearly twofold higher than that in the control. The anionic (SDS, cholic acid) and non-ionic (Tweens) detergents increased the cell membrane permeability, and thus, enhanced alpha-amylase secretion. Furthermore, anionic surfactants exhibited stabilizing effect on the enzyme during preservation at 4 degrees C. CONCLUSIONS: PEG 8000 and the ionic detergents (SDS, cholic acid and Tween-80) were more effective in the solubilization of cell membrane components, and enhancing enzyme yields than the cationic detergents such as CTAB (N,Cetyl-N,N,N-trimethyl ammonium bromide). Further, these surfactants were found to stabilize the enzyme at 4 degrees C. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The secretion of Ca2+-independent hyperthermostable alpha-amylase was enhanced in the presence of certain anionic and non-ionic detergents in the medium. Furthermore, the surfactants stabilized the enzyme during preservation at 4 degrees C. The use of this enzyme in starch hydrolysis eliminates the addition of Ca2+ in starch liquefaction and its subsequent removal by ion exchange from sugar syrups.  相似文献

A range of surfactants, including the anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate, the cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and the nonionics octylphenoxy polyethoxyethanol (Triton X100) and polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan monoleate (Tween 80) was studied for effects on proliferation, contractibility and attachment of cultured human fibroblasts. Only ionic surfactants exhibited a stimulatory effect on fibroblast proliferation, whereas all the surfactants tested increased the contraction of collagen gels containing fibroblasts, with the greatest effect from the non-ionic surfactants. This activity was not correlated with an increase of cell population or cell attachment within the collagenous matrix. The activity of the surfactants was seen only at levels close to their LD50 values and in a narrow range of concentrations. The effects of the non-ionic surfactant Triton X-100, the cationic surfactant cetyltri-methylammonium bromide (CTAB) and the anionic surfactant sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate (SLS) on the decolorization of the reaction medium containing the monoazo dye Acid Orange 7 (AO7) by Alcaligenes faecalis and Rhodococcus erythropolis were studied. It was found that the surfactants influenced in different ways the rate of decolorization. At all concentrations tested the non-ionic surfactant Triton X-100 decreased the decolorization rate of R. erythropolis. At concentrations above the critical micelle concentration (CMC) Triton X-100 upset the usually observed exponential decay of the dye with A. faecalis due probably to the existence of an outer membrane in this organism. In concentrations above the CMC the anionic surfactant SLS inhibited the decolorization and, at prolonged incubation, caused partial release of the bound dye. The cationic surfactant CTAB in concentrations above and below the CMC accelerated drastically the binding of AO7 to the cells causing a rapid staining of the biomass and complete decolorization of the reaction medium. An attempt was made for explanation of the observed differences by the negative electrostatic charge of the living bacterial cell.  相似文献

In an attempt to define the parameters in amphiphilic molecules important for their interaction with the erythrocyte membrane, the effects of cationic, anionic, zwitterionic and nonionic amphiphilic agents (C10-C16) on osmotic fragility and transport of potassium and phosphate in human erythrocytes were studied. All the amphiphiles protected the erythrocytes against hypotonic haemolysis. Half-maximum protection occurred at a concentration which was about 15% of that inducing 50% haemolysis. The concentrations of amphiphiles required to induce protection or haemolysis were related to the length of the alkyl chain in a way indicating that a membrane/aqueous phase partition is the mechanism whereby the amphiphile monomers intercalate into the membrane. At antihaemolytic concentrations all the amphiphiles increased potassium efflux and passive potassium influx. The increase in the fluxes was about the same in both directions through the membrane and there were no clear differences in the effects of the different amphiphilic derivatives at equi-protecting concentrations. Active potassium influx was decreased by cationic, zwitterionic and non-ionic amphiphiles. The ability of the amphiphiles to inhibit the influx was not related to the length of the alkyl chain. Anionic amphiphiles had no or only a weak stimulatory effect on the influx. Phosphate efflux was reduced by all the amphiphiles. The inhibitory potency of the different amphiphiles decreased in the following order; anionic greater than zwitterionic, non-ionic greater than cationic. Short-chained amphiphiles were more potent inhibitors than long-chained. The possible participation of non-bilayer phases (mixed inverted micelles) in the intercalation of amphiphiles into the membrane is discussed.  相似文献

The effect of anionic and cationic surfactants on acid phosphatase denaturation has been extensively studied. Low molecular mass (LMr) protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP), a key regulatory enzyme involved in many different processes in the cell, was distinctly affected by anionic (homologous series of n-alkyl sulfates (C8-C14)) and cationic (n-alkyl trimethylammonium bromides (C12-C16)) surfactants. At concentrations 10-fold lower critical micellar concentration (cmc) values, the enzyme was completely inactivated in the presence of anionic surfactants, in a process independent of the pH, and dependent on the chain length of the surfactants. Under the same conditions, the effect of cationic surfactants on the enzyme activity was pH-dependent and only at pH 7.0 full inactivation was observed at concentrations 10-fold higher cmc values. In contrast to cationic surfactants the effect of anionic surfactants on the enzyme activity was irreversible and was not affected by the presence of NaCl. Inorganic phosphate, a known competitive inhibitor of PTP, protected the enzyme against inactivation by the surfactants. Our results suggest that the inactivation of the LMr PTP by anionic and cationic surfactants involved both electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, and that the interactions enzyme-surfactants probably occurred at or near the active site.  相似文献
