Procambium was initially isolated near the insertions of lemma and stamen primordia in the grass Anthoxanthum. The palea was initiated before its procambium. The acropetal, continuous differentiation of procambium involved in the siting of leaves on shoots of many other megaphyllous plants, does not occur in the rachilla of this grass. A portion of the vascular system of the fertile floret of Anthoxanthum became connected with the vascular system of the rest of the spikelet by basipetal differentiation of the procambial trace of the fertile lemma. A core of residual meristem persisted in the fertile floret above the procambial trace to the fertile lemma. Vascular continuity between the procambial trace to the fertile lemma and the procambial traces of the stamens was achieved by the differentiation of procambium from this core of residual meristem.  相似文献

The vascular system of the floret of Leersia is unified yet is segmented according to the appendages it serves. The rachilla at the floret base contains a collateral bundle related to the median trace of the lemma. The palea median trace joins the posterior of this bundle in the rachilla as the lemma laterals merge with the anterior. Although the stamen traces enter at the flanks of this rachilla bundle, they do not become fully incorporated into the system until near the floret base where the rachilla bundle, lemma laterals, and palea laterals converge. Traces from the lodicules attach to the anterior of the stamen traces. The base of the vascular system of the pistil, the pistil plexus, attaches tenuously by a bundle to the lower system between the entrance of the stamen traces. A bundle from each style attaches near the anterior of the pistil plexus below the level where the posterior of the pistil plexus rises, as the placental bundle, to merge with the ovule. Characteristics of the vascular system of Leersia, such as the relative discreteness of the staminal and stylar traces and the lack of both the anterior pistil bundle and the xylem discontinuity, are useful for delimiting the Oryzoideae from the Festucoideae.  相似文献

The vascular bundles in the inflorescence axis of Andropogon gerardii occur in inner and outer systems. The inner system is made up of large, early developing strands that, at earliest stages of development, are precocious (= the appendage they are to serve has not yet been initiated). The outer system consists of later developing smaller strands that are open ended in a proximal direction (= strands differentiate basipetally in the cortex below the appendage they serve). Bundles of both the inner and outer systems are not connected to other procambium early in their development but exist as isolated strands. The veins of the inner system of the inflorescence axis occur as sympodia. The presence of inner and outer systems in the vascular tissue is common to most monocotyledons. However, amongst monocotyledons, only certain grasses have been shown to have strands of the inner system that are isolated early in development. Many dicotyledons have large strands which are precocious and some have smaller, later developing strands which are open ended in a proximal direction, hence they occur as isolated strands. These smaller strands in dicotyledons occur between large strands. Certain dicotyledons have an inner and an outer system of veins. Of these, some have veins of the inner system that differ from the inner system bundles of monocotyledons in that they also form part of the outer system of veins, or develop at a different time. One other dicotyledon with an inner and outer system, Bougainvillea, differs from monocotyledons only in that the bundles of the outer system do not seem to be isolated early in their development and anastomoses are seen between the inner and outer systems. Thus, it appears that monocotyledons differ from dicotyledons only in the presence of independent inner and outer systems of vascular bundles in the former. Thus, the hypothesis of Zimmermann and Tomlinson that there are basic differences between monocotyledon and dicotyledon vascular systems is not substantiated. It is even suspected that monocotyledon and dicotyledon vascular systems will be demonstrated to be modifications of a basic plan consisting of large, acropetally differentiating and smaller, basipetally differentiating strands.  相似文献

The two genera Neostapfia and Orcuttia, recognized as being closely allied and sharing unusual features, are treated as the sole members of the tribe Orcuttieae. Neostapfia is monotypic; Orcuttia comprises eight taxa, six of which are universally treated as species, and two as varieties. Studies reported here are based on field work throughout the ranges of these two genera and examination of 550 herbarium specimens. Chromosome counts and seed protein analyses for all taxa are presented. These data indicate that each taxon is worthy of specific status and that Orcuttia, as traditionally treated, consists of discordant elements. It is concluded that a more satisfactory taxonomy results when this group is split into two genera. A new genus, Tuctoria, is described, and the combinations T. fragilis (Swallen) J. Reeder, T. greenei (Vasey) J. Reeder, and T. mucronata (Crampton) J. Reeder are proposed.  相似文献

The objective of this research was to provide data for a taxonomic evaluation of Pholistoma and for a later survey of evolutionary morphology within the tribe Hydrophylleae. The unilocular ovary bears specialized unicellular prickles. Ovary and capsule wall consist of five or seven cell layers, of which three develop thickened walls for protection and dehiscence. Two parietal placentae enlarge to fill the entire locule. The four to eight ovules per ovary, some of which degenerate, are irregularly ventral and half-epitropous to half-hypotropous. Each ovule is tenuinucellate, unitegmic, and anatropous with a feeble vascular strand. A large amount of ovular parenchyma is produced from two meristems, one of which is the integumentary tapetum. Cells of the ovular epidermis grow into giant cells, each with a tubular portion penetrating deep into the seed interior, thereby producing a most unusual seed coat. The embryo sac is of the Polygonum type, the embryo of the Onagrad type. The endosperm is cellular with a micropylar and a chalazal endosperm haustorium. Both haustoria produce lateral branches. The mature endosperm is porously pitted, due to the giant cells of the testa. Great similarity between the three Pholistoma species, and in particular the presence in all species of two lateral haustorium branches, of gigantic, funnel-shaped epidermal cells, and of a porously pitted endosperm, strongly supports the notion that these three species constitute a natural entity.  相似文献

In species of Casuarina with multileaved whorls, each stem vascular bundle divides radially into two at the site of a leaf trace separation, and the same two bundles rejoin acropetally to where the trace supplies a leaf. Such divisions are divisions of a single vascular bundle, and the rejoining of bundles forms a single bundle. Proposals that the extant primary vascular systems of dicotyledons may have been derived as in conifers are incorrect in so far as Casuarina is concerned, or the system has evolved beyond that so far proposed for dicotyledons. Reasons are offered, however, for considering that fernlike leaf gaps are not present. Leaf traces supply leaves at the first nodes distal to their origins. The ways by which an increase or decrease of stem bundles occur are described. Phyllotactic patterns range from helical (rare) to whorled. In the embryo, where leaves occur decussately, of certain species with multileaved whorls, and in the shoot apices of species with tetramerous whorls, slight differences in the levels of leaf attachments and the bending of leaf traces indicate the probable evolution of extant whorled phyllotaxies from one or more helical arrangements. Stages in the evolution are suggested. The leaves in most species with multileaved whorls are in true whorls. The original periderm of branchlets lies internally to the internodal traces and chlorenchyma, but is otherwise external to the vascular system. It is concluded that each leaf originates at its level of separation from the axis despite several structural features suggesting that the leaf bases have become congenitally adnate to the stem.  相似文献

An actively growing cottonwood bud was embedded in epon-araldite and serially sectioned at 2 μm. The sections were analyzed microscopically with the optical shuttle system of Zimmermann and Tomlinson, and all data were quantitatively recorded relative to the apex and to leaf plastochron index (LPI). Analysis of the sections revealed an acropetally developing procambial system organized according to a precise phyllotaxy. Six procambial strands could be recognized and followed long before the leaf primordia that they would enter were evident at the apex. Origin of these strands coincided with developmental events both in the parent trace and its primordium and in the antecedent leaf on the same orthostichy. Once a primordium and its trace attained a certain stage of development, trace bundles began to develop basipetally from the primordium base. These trace bundles appeared to be the earliest progenitors of wood formation in cottonwood. It was concluded that the concept of residual meristem and its corollary, the hypothesis that acropetally developing procambial strands determine the inception sties of new primordia, apply to the cottonwood apex.  相似文献

The various primary vascular systems of shoots of Anagallis arvensis L. (Primulaceae) can be distinguished in relation to the number of leaves (two, three, or four) at each node. In this study, shoot segments (single intemodes and the nodes above them) were examined. The arrangement of segments within shoots was also recorded. The vasculature forms a closed system with the number of sets of bundles usually equal to twice the number of leaves. Irregularities are found in the following features of the system: the number of bundles composing leaf half-traces; occurrence of anastomosing bundles; the number of intemodes through which bundles extend; levels of leaf attachment to the stem at the node; and distribution of parenchyma within the vascular cylinder, which determines the number of bundles in sets and the number of bundle sets. The irregularities occur with different frequencies for segments exhibiting different phyllotactic patterns. Comparison of these frequencies leads to the following conclusions: anastomosing bundles occur only in decussate or trimerous shoot segments, whereas sets of bundles united within intemodes and displaced leaves occur only in tetramerous or trimerous ones; decrease of the number of bundles per leaf and displacement of leaves at the nodal level are correlated; variation between segments exhibiting the same phyllotactic pattern is greatest for trimerous, less for tetramerous, and least for decussate segments; the vascular system of decussate shoot segments is more stable than that of the other systems; and trimerous segments seem to be intermediate between the other two segment types.  相似文献

The course of the vascular system in the proximal end of Dolerotheca formosa is described. Vascular bundles flare outward and downward immediately upon entering from the peduncle. These bundles are located in radiating septa just beneath the cover and give off small lateral bundles pinnately. Laterals from adjacent septal bundles meet, fuse, and extend downward in the parenchyma plate separating paired sporangia. The septal bundles, therefore, alternate in position with the parenchyma plate bundles and are interpreted as remnants of an ancestral bifurcating pinna system, which bore pendent sporangia along each side of supporting rachises. This interpretation differs from both the Codonotheca aggregation and plicated Whittleseya hypotheses recently advanced to explain the evolutionary pathway by which this complex pteridosperm pollen organ evolved.  相似文献

应用计算机图形技术在大鼠脑的连续冠状切片Nissl染色的基础上通过Onyx2超级图形工作站对大鼠脑的纹状体进行了三维重建。结果提示:大鼠纹状体由尾壳核、苍白球和边缘区三部分组成,其中边缘区位于尾壳核和苍白球之间,被二完全包绕;尾壳核呈近似的内凹半球形,嘴尾径最大的为6.2mm;背腹径最大为4.9mm;宽度(冠状平面上的内外径)为3.5mm。从嘴侧到尾侧随着脑平面的增宽,尾壳核逐渐向外侧(即靠近外轮廓的方向)移位。苍白球呈块形,嘴尾径最大为4.4mm,背腹径最大为2.6mm,宽度(冠状平面上的内外径)最大为1.5mm。位于尾壳核的内侧,除内侧外基它三个方向均被尾壳核包绕。边缘区呈现一个片状扇形结构,嘴侧背腹径大,最大为2.2mm,宽约0.17mm;尾侧背腹径小,为0.8mm,宽约0.13mm。同属壳核和苍白球一样,从嘴侧到尾侧随着脑平面的增宽边缘区亦逐渐向外侧(即靠近外轮廓的方向)移位,其移位的幅度亦明显大于脑平面增宽的幅度;整个边缘区从嘴侧到尾侧呈均匀变化,其片状逐渐变宽,长度(背腹径)逐渐变小,从而形成一个盘状结构。  相似文献

The topologic arrangement of petiolar bundles varies within the length of the cottonwood petiole. Each petiolar bundle is formed by the subdivision and aggregation of acropetally differentiating subsidiary bundles in a predictable pattern. The subsidiary bundles provide vascular continuity between the stem and specific portions of the leaf lamina. Spot-labeling of individual veins with 14CO2, freeze substitution, and microautoradiography were used to establish the relation between the secondary veins of the lamina and the vasculature of the petiole. Within the petiole vasculature each subsidiary bundle was continuous with a specific portion of the lamina and seemed to have a separate function. Subsidiary bundles continuous with the central leaf trace were closely related functionally to the tip region of the lamina, while the subsidiary bundles continuous with the lateral leaf traces were functionally related to the middle and basal portions of the lamina.  相似文献

Structure of the gynoecium is described in two species of Bakeridesia, subgenus Bakeridesia (Malvaceae, tribe Malveae). The dorsal wall of each carpel bears a winglike projection with a marginal pair of pubescent, bluntly dentate wings. The projection arises as a single, solid ridge of tissue after the ovules are initiated and after the ventral carpellary margins are fused with the receptacle. Two multiseriate layers of fiber-sclereids line each locule and continue into the winglike projection where they are separated by parenchyma. Gynoecial vascularization is described in detail. The richly vascularized carpels are supplied by five traces: a median dorsal trace, which bifurcates into two dorsal bundles; two lateral traces; and two ventral traces. Adjacent ventral traces, lateral traces, and septal bundles are fused—i.e., they are held in common by neighboring carpels. The presence of lateral carpellary traces may be a primitive character in the tribe Malveae.  相似文献
