Prolactin (PRL) and progesterone (P4) values were collected from eight intact (4 female, 4 male) mixed-breed dogs housed outdoors for a two-year span. A circannual component was significant for PRL for each dog (P less than 0.01) and the rhythm was validated for the population (P less than 0.004). Females had two estrus periods a year demonstrated by a P4 frequency of 23.5 +/- 0.47 wk. A 6-month component was statistically significant for P4 for three dogs and of borderline statistical significance for the fourth dog. Circannual acrophases yielded a statistically significant population rhythm (P = 0.012), whereas the 6-month component was of borderline statistical significance (P = 0.056). No time-macroscopic relationship between PRL cycles and P4 cycles was seen. These findings are consistent with similar PRL rhythms in non-domestic canids and emphasize the importance of considering seasonal effects when interpreting PRL data.  相似文献

Four healthy non obese young volunteers were observed for a 24-hr period, every other month, over the course of one year. Tolbutamide was injected i.v. each day of the experiment every four hours. Tolbutamide-induced insulin secretion (T.I.I.S.) was evaluated by planimetrically measuring insulin areas above basal levels. Tolbutamide-induced hypoglycemic effect was evaluated by measuring the blood glucose difference between the 5th and 25th minute after the drug injection (delta G5'-25'). The macroscopic evaluation of T.I.I.S. and delta G5'-25' (mean chronograms) permitted the detection of the existence of a circannual variation of both variables. In particular the maximum level of the blood glucose drop (delta G5'-25') was registered in February. Subsequently the quantification of the rhythm of T.I.I.S. was obtained by fitting a sine curve, according to the Cosinor method. The highest insulin release was confirmed in winter. As previously documented, the existence of a statistically significant circadian rhythm of T.I.I.S. was confirmed in the morning, i.e. the same period of the day in which insulin-induced hypoglycemia occurs.  相似文献

The incidence of palpable goiters, the thyroid functional state and thyroid radioisotope uptake was analyzed retrospectively in 80 patients with acromegaly and 80 patients with prolactinomas. 71% of all patients with acromegaly had an enlargement of the thyroid (goiter); 49% of them had diffuse and 39% nodular goiters. The incidence of goiters in patients with prolactinomas from the same iodine deficient geographic region was only 35% (82% diffuse and 18% nodular). 17.5% of acromegalic patients underwent thyroid surgery before diagnosis of growth hormone excess. 17.5% of acromegalic patients with goiters had autonomous areas in their thyroids and 5% were clearly hyperthyroid. Goiters developed slightly more often in females (74%) than in males (67%). The mean preoperative growth hormone level was higher in acromegalic patients with goiter. The incidence of goiters was positively correlated with the documented time of elevated growth hormone concentration in serum. Two patients with exaggerated response of thyrotropin (TSH) (delta TSH greater than 20 mU/l) to the application of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) had no goiters. On the other hand most patients (61%) with goiters had a low TSH-response to TRH (delta TSH less than 10 mU/l) representing in part occult autonomy of thyroid function. No patient with prolactinoma has had previous thyroid surgery nor thyroid autonomy. One patient with prolactinoma suffered from Graves' disease and none of the acromegalic patients had this disease. We finally conclude that the elevation of growth hormone leads to increased incidence of euthyroid and hyperthyroid (autonomous) goiters independently of the influence of TSH.  相似文献

In our previous study, we observed a tendency towards an age-related increase in the serum thyrotropin (TSH) concentration. Regulatory mechanisms of TSH secretion in elderly subjects were studied. In 43 elderly subjects, serum TSH did not correlate significantly with serum T4, T3 free T4 or rT3. Further, those with increased TSH (greater than 5 mU/l, 9 subjects) did not overlap with those with low T3 (less than 0.92 nmol/1, 8 subjects). Increases in serum TSH were not associated with the presence of circulating anti-thyroid autoantibodies. A TRH test using a 500 micrograms single bolus injection was performed in 15 subjects. TSH response (basal: 1.92 +/- 1.42 (s.d.) mU/1, peak: 11.25 +/- 5.33 mU/1, sigma: 26.74 +/- 12.89 mU/1, respectively) did not differ significantly from that of younger subjects. T3 response after TRH varied greatly and a close correlation was observed between basal T3 and peak T3 (r = 0.86), and also between peak T3 and delta T3 (r = 0.81). A significant correlation was observed between sigma TSH and basal T3 (r = 0.60). Neither plasma cortisol, epinephrine nor norepinephrine concentrations showed any significant correlation with basal and TRH-stimulated TSH or T3 concentrations. However, the plasma dopamine concentration correlated significantly with sigma TSH (r = 0.60) and basal T3 (r = 0.52), respectively. In conclusion, the increase in serum TSH observed in elderly subjects was felt to represent a physiological adaptation to maintain serum T3. Low T3 subjects appear to have a disturbance in this mechanism, with decreased TSH and T3 response to TRH stimulation.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The melanin content of Rana esculenta L. liver varies according to a circannual statistically significant rhythm, as shown by variance and single cosinor analysis. The maximum is found in autumn-winter, the minimum in spring-summer. The linear regression analysis shown a negative correlation between the amount of melanin and the environmental temperature.  相似文献

Summary The tropical spotted munia,Lonchura punctulata, exhibits a pronounced seasonality in reproduction, body weight and food intake. The body weight cycle parallels the reproductive cycle, whereas the food intake cycle is almost in antiphase to it. There is evidence that constant dietary restriction (50% of the maximum intake) causes dissociation of the body weight and reproductive cycles. Because of these relationships we performed experiments on the food intake cycle and its phase relationships with the reproductive and body weight cycles in birds held under constant light. The results indicate persistence of all three cycles. The phase relationships of these three parameters were almost normal, which may indicate that the endogenous oscillators for the cycles of reproduction, body weight and food intake are linked.  相似文献

Eight patients with primary hypothyroidism were compared to eleven euthyroid subjects with regard to the effects of a single i.v. dose of heparin on plasma lipoprotein concentrations (the "clearing reaction"). The hypothyroid patients were moderately hypercholesterolemic but had normal plasma triglyceride levels. Maximal activities of hepatic lipase (HL) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were lower in the hypothyroid than in the normal subjects. The hypothyroid patients demonstrated a significant decrease in total plasma cholesterol levels after heparin injection (from 8.36 +/- 0.70 mmol/l to 7.55 +/- 0.62 mmol/l, P less than 0.02). The maximal activity of HL after heparin was significantly correlated to the decrease in plasma cholesterol levels (P less than 0.05) and in LDL-cholesterol levels (P less than 0.01). The euthyroid subjects demonstrated a smaller decrease in total plasma cholesterol concentrations (from 5.53 +/- 0.31 to 5.08 +/- 0.28 mmol/l, P less than 0.05). In this group, the fall in cholesterol levels was not correlated to maximal HL activity. The reduction in plasma triglyceride levels after heparin was similar and significant (P less than 0.01) in both groups. These data support the view that decreased activity of HL contributes to the dyslipoproteinemia seen in hypothyroidism. They are also in accordance with the notion that HL is involved in the elimination of cholesterol from plasma.  相似文献

The influence of vitamin B6 in a dosage of 300 mg X 2 in 24 hrs, on circadian rhythm of plasmatic ACTH, cortisol, prolactin and somatotropin have been studied in 10 normal women. After vitamin B6 24 hrs pattern of ACTH and cortisol is unchanged; prolactin levels are slightly lower, in a statistically unsignificant proportion the night peak of growth hormone is higher in a statistically significant proportion (p. 0.05). The effect of vitamin B6 is likely to me mediated by dopaminergic receptors at hypothalamic level as previous studies by other Authors appear to prove.  相似文献

Many studies have reported the predictive role of unphysiological levels of microalbuminuria for the development of diabetic nephropathy. It is known that physiological levels of 24-h microalbuminuria do not exceed 20 micrograms/min (28.8 mg/day), but a few data are available for shorter periods. Since an accurate 24-h urine collection is difficult to obtain in screening programs, it seems important to study whether a circadian oscillation exists and, if so, to find more precise reference values. Eleven healthy subjects (mean age 30.6 +/- 2.46 years) with normal glucose tolerance and no family history of diabetes mellitus or nephropathy were studied during the usual routine activity. Urines were collected 6 times at 4-h intervals. It was possible to document the existence of a statistically significant circadian rhythm with the following parameters: MESOR 6.95 +/- 0.49 micrograms/min; amplitude 1.96 +/- 0.37 micrograms/min; acrophase 15(06); 95% CL 13(01)-17(45). These data show that reference values are higher during daytime as compared with nighttime and suggest that the time of urine collection must be taken into consideration in order to define the upper physiological limits more precisely.  相似文献

Determinants and intersubject variations of fractal and complexity measures of R-R interval variability were studied in a random population of 200 healthy middle-aged women (age 51 +/- 6 yr) and 189 men (age 50 +/- 6 yr) during controlled conditions in the supine and sitting positions. The short-term fractal exponent (alpha(1)) was lower in women than men in both the supine (1.18 +/- 0.20 vs. 1.12 +/- 0.17, P < 0.01) and sitting position (P < 0.001). Approximate entropy (ApEn), a measure of complexity, was higher in women in the sitting position (1.16 +/- 0.17 vs. 1.07 +/- 0.19, P < 0.001), but no gender-related differences were observed in ApEn in the supine position. Fractal and complexity measures were not related to any other demographic, laboratory, or lifestyle factors. Intersubject variations in a fractal measure, alpha(1) (e.g., 1.15 +/- 0.20 in the supine position, z value 1.24, not significant), and in a complexity measure, ApEn (e.g., 1.14 +/- 0.18 in the supine position, z value 1.44, not significant), were generally smaller and more normally distributed than the variations in the traditional measures of heart rate variability (e.g., standard deviation of R-R intervals 49 +/- 21 ms in the supine position, z value 2.53, P < 0.001). These results in a large random population sample show that healthy subjects express relatively little interindividual variation in the fractal and complexity measures of heart rate behavior and, unlike the traditional measures of heart rate variability, they are not related to lifestyle, metabolic, or demographic variables. However, subtle gender-related differences are also present in fractal and complexity measures of heart rate behavior.  相似文献
