Summary Interference microscopy was used to measure the dry mass of nucleoli in unfixed nuclei isolated from neurones of the paraventricular (PV) and supraoptic (SO) nuclei of female rats. Changes in nucleolar dry mass during pregnancy and lactation have been interpreted as reflecting changes in rates of synthesis of ribosomes and protein in these neurones. Measurements were made on a total of 6580 nucleoli from 135 rats. At the end of pregnancy nucleolar dry mass of both PV and SO neurones was increased compared with virgin female rats. Nucleolar dry mass of PV neurones but not SO neurones increased further during lactation. This change was biphasic, with a nadir at 2 weeks post partum. After day 5 post partum, nucleolar dry mass of PV and SO neurones was increased only in rats suckling pups. Adjustment of litter size to 10 or 22 to 24 pups on the first day post partum did not affect nucleolar changes in PV and SO neurones. Nucleolar changes were less when only one pup was nursed. The results are discussed in relation to oxytocin secretion induced by the suckling stimulus and the synthetic response of PV and SO neurones to increased secretion.  相似文献

We examined short- and long-term effects of high milking frequency (HMF) for the first 21 days of lactation. The study included 122 Israeli Holstein cows – 32 pregnant heifers, 40 cows in second lactation and 50 cows in >second lactation. Heifers were paired according to predicted transmitting ability and cows according to energy-corrected milk (ECM) production, age, days in milk and expected calving date. Thin cows (body condition score <2.75) were not included. One cow from each pair was arbitrarily allocated to a control group milked three times daily (3× milking cows) and the counterpart to an experimental group milked six times daily for the first 21 days of lactation and then three times daily for the rest of the lactation (6× milking cows). During the first 21 days of lactation, 6× milking cows produced 9.3 kg more milk (26.5%) and 7.16 kg more ECM (19%) than the 3× milking cows. The higher milk production persisted throughout the entire lactation (305 days), as reflected by treatment×age interaction showing higher milk production for the first and second (7%) but not >second lactation cows relative to their control counterparts (−0.37%); ECM production was also higher in 6× milking first and second lactation (7.6% and 5%, respectively) but not for >second lactation cows. Furthermore, HMF had long-lasting effects, expressed as significantly higher milk production through the succeeding lactation in the previous first lactation cows (10%); a tendency toward significance in the second lactation cows relative to the controls (4.7%), but a deleterious effect on the >second lactation cows, reflected by lower milk production (−5.25%) than in controls; similar patterns were found for the ECM. For the entire 305 days of lactation, fat and protein yields were higher for first and second lactation cows, whereas protein yield for >second lactation cows was lower in the 6× milking v. control group. Given that HMF during the first 21 days of first or second lactation increases milk and ECM yields throughout the concurrent and successive lactation with no adverse effect on energy balance, mastitis, metabolic diseases or reproduction, it seems to be economically beneficial. However, caution should be paid for >second lactation cows due to absence of significant effect in the entire of the first HMF applied lactation and the deleterious effect in the succeeding lactation.  相似文献

Growth rates of mammalian young are closely linked to the ability of the mother to provide nutrients; thus, milk composition and yield provide a direct measure of maternal investment during lactation in many mammals. We studied changes in milk composition and output throughout lactation in a free-ranging population of the omnivorous bat, Phyllostomus hastatus. Fat and dry matter of milk increased from 9 to 21% and from 21 to 35% of wet mass, respectively, throughout lactation. Energy increased from 6 to 9 kJ · g−1 wet mass, primarily due to the increase in fat concentration. Total sugar levels decreased slightly but non-significantly. Mean sugar level was 4.0% of wet mass. Protein concentration increased from 6 to 11% of wet mass at peak lactation and then decreased as pups approached weaning age. Total milk energy output until pups began to forage was 3609 kJ. Milk levels of Mg, Fe, Ca, K, and Na averaged 0.55 ± 0.26, 0.23 ± 0.2, 8.75 ± 4.17, 5.42 ± 2.11, and 9.87 ± 4.3 mg · g−1 dry matter, respectively. Of the minerals studied, calcium appears to be most limiting in this species. The high degree of variability in foraging time, milk composition and milk yield between individuals at the same stage of lactation could potentially yield high variance in reproductive success among females of this polygynous species. In order to investigate the potential neuroprotective role played by glucose metabolism during brain oxygen deprivation, the susceptibility of cultured neurones and astrocytes to 1 h of oxygen deprivation (hypoxia) or oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) was examined. OGD, but not hypoxia, promotes dihydrorhodamine 123 and glutathione oxidation in neurones but not in astrocytes reflecting free radical generation in the former cells. A specific loss of mitochondrial complex-I activity, mitochondrial membrane potential collapse, ATP depletion and necrosis occurred in the OGD neurones, but not in the OGD astrocytes. Furthermore, superoxide anion but not nitric oxide formation was responsible for these effects. OGD decreased neuronal but not astrocytic NADPH concentrations; this was not observed in hypoxia and was independent of superoxide or nitric oxide formation. These results suggest that glucose metabolism would supply NADPH, through the pentose-phosphate pathway, aimed at preventing oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage and neurotoxicity during oxygen deprivation to neural cells.  相似文献

The passive and excitable electrical properties of cockroach neurones growing in vitro have been investigated using intracellular recording techniques. The resting membrane potentials of the neurones are similar to those of their in vivo counterparts but the input resistances and membrane capacitive properties are more typical of embryonic insect neurones. During the first 12 days of growth in vitro the neurones exhibit delayed rectification in response to the injection of depolarising current steps. After this period “all or none” action potentials can be evoked by depolarising pulses in approximately half of the neurones tested. These spikes are abolised by 1 μM tetrodotoxin but are unaffected by 5 mM Co2+. Spontaneous excitatory activity develops in approx 25% of the neurones after 3 weeks in culture.  相似文献

1. Progressive changes in the composition of milk from rats has been studied from day 0 to 20 of lactation and for 3 days following separation of the dams and pups at day 20 post partum. 2. The changes in concentration of Na, K and lactose suggested that secretion both prepartum and following weaning occurred by a paracellular mechanism whereas a transcellular pathway existed during established lactation. 3. The concentration of total protein and casein increased gradually throughout lactation. In contrast, the concentration of serum albumin increased and transferrin decreased markedly during early lactation. The fat content of milk declined 3-fold within 5 days of birth but the concentration of Ca, Mg and inorganic P increased. The concentration of each of these milk constituents remained constant during established lactation. 4. Following weaning the pronounced decline in lactose, K and inorganic P was negatively correlated with an increase in all other milk constituents except fat. 5. Rats fed a low energy diet produced milk with a lower fat content but with an unaltered concentration of protein and carbohydrate. The growth rate of these litters was similar for the first 5 days of lactation when compared to litters from dams fed a high energy diet. The growth rate of litters thereafter and following weaning was greater for rats fed a high energy diet.  相似文献

The transition from gestation to lactation is marked by significant physiological changes for the individual cow such that disease incidence is highest in early lactation. Around the time of calving, cows rely on mobilisation of body energy reserves to fill the energy deficit created by an increase in nutrient demands at a time of restricted feed intake. It is well established that monitoring of body energy reserves in lactation is an important component of herd health management. However, despite their influence on future health and productivity, monitoring of body energy reserves in the dry period is often sparse. Further, there is increasing concern that current dry off management is inappropriate for modern cattle and may influence future disease risk. This study aimed to identify candidate indicators of early lactation production disease from body energy data collected in the dry period and production data recorded at the time of dry off. Retrospective analysis was performed on 482 cow-lactations collected from a long-term Holstein-Friesian genetic and management systems project, the Langhill herd in Scotland. Cow-lactations were assigned to one of four health groups based on health status in the first 30 days of lactation. These four groups were as follows: healthy, reproductive tract disorders (retained placenta and metritis), subclinical mastitis and metabolic disorders (ketosis, hypocalcaemia, hypomagnesaemia and left displaced abomasum). ANOVA, employing a GLM was used to determine effects for the candidate indicator traits. Cows which were diagnosed with a reproductive tract disorder in the first 30 days of lactation experienced a significantly greater loss in body energy content, body condition score and weight in the preceding dry period than healthy cows. The rate of change in body energy content during the first 15 days of the dry period was −18.26 MJ/day for cows which developed reproductive tract disorder compared with +0.63 MJ/day for healthy cows. Cows diagnosed with subclinical mastitis in the first 30 days of lactation had significantly greater milk yield at dry off in the previous lactation than cows that developed a reproductive tract disorder or metabolic disease in addition to a significantly higher yield to body energy content ratio at dry off than healthy cows. Physiological and production traits recorded in the lactation and dry period preceding a disease event differed between cows which developed different diseases post-calving. Differences in these traits allow the development of new disease indicators for use in models for the prediction of disease risk in the transition period.  相似文献

This study reports the findings of an integrated, comprehensive analysis of lactation energetics in harp seals conducted using longitudinal measurements of mass, body composition and milk composition from mother-pup pairs in conjunction with water flux measurements in pups. The nursing period of harp seals is a short, intense and relatively efficient period of energy transfer from mothers to pups. The average daily milk intake for pups was 3.65±0.24 kg which is equivalent to 79.5 MJ of energy. Eighty-one per cent of the energy received in the milk was metabolisable and 66% of the energy was stored by the pups as body tissue. The field metabolic rate of pups was 3.9±0.4 time basal metabolic rate. The pups were growing at a rate of 2.2 kg per day during the nursing period. The distribution of this mass gain varied in terms of tissue composition, depending on the age of the pups, but over the whole nursing period approximately half of the tissue was stored as fat. Harp seal mothers lost an average of 3.1 kg per day during lactation which was composed of 37% water, 50% fat, 11% protein and 2% ash. Mothers spent half of their time during the lactation period actively diving and only one-third of their time on the surface of the ice. Milk compositional changes followed the normal phocid pattern with increasing fat content and decreasing water content as lactation progressed. The mean mass transfer efficiency was 73%. However, this value cannot be used without qualification because female harp seals in this study fed to varying degrees, consuming an estimated 0–4.8 kg of fish per day. Feeding does not appear to be required in order to achieve the energy requirements for lactation, given the energy stores possessed by females, and some females do fast through the entire period so feeding may be considered opportunistic in nature. This study set out to demonstrate the feasibility of merging data from different experimental resource dairy populations for joint genetic analyses. Data from four experimental herds located in three different countries (Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands) were used for this purpose. Animals were first lactation Holstein cows that participated in ongoing or previously completed selection and feeding experiments. Data included a total of 60 058 weekly records from 1630 cows across the four herds; number of cows per herd ranged from 90 to 563. Weekly records were extracted from the individual herd databases and included seven traits: milk, fat and protein yield, milk somatic cell count, liveweight, dry matter intake and energy intake. Missing records were predicted with the use of random regression models, so that at the end there were 44 weekly records, corresponding to the typical 305-day lactation, for each cow. A total of 23 different lactation traits were derived from these records: total milk, fat and protein yield, average fat and protein percentage, average fat-to-protein ratio, total dry matter and energy intake and average dry matter intake-to-milk yield ratio in lactation weeks 1 to 44 and 1 to 15; average milk somatic cell count in lactation weeks 1 to 15 and 16 to 44; average liveweight in lactation weeks 1 to 44; and average energy balance in lactation weeks 1 to 44 and 1 to 15. Data were subsequently merged across the four herds into a single dataset, which was analysed with mixed linear models. Genetic variance and heritability estimates were greater (P < 0.05) than zero for all traits except for average milk somatic cell count in weeks 16 to 44. Proportion of total phenotypic variance due to genotype-by-environment (sire-by-herd) interaction was not different (P > 0.05) from zero. When estimable, the genetic correlation between herds ranged from 0.85 to 0.99. Results suggested that merging experimental herd data into a single dataset is both feasible and sensible, despite potential differences in management and recording of the animals in the four herds. Merging experimental data will increase power of detection in a genetic analysis and augment the potential reference population in genome-wide association studies, especially of difficult-to-record traits.  相似文献

Fusarium moniliforme was isolated [into culture] from white onion and inoculated into holes bored in onion bulbs. After 48 hrs, the nuclear dry mass of onion cells 0–5 mm ahead of the mycelium had decreased by 19% as determined by quantitative interference microscopy as compared to nuclear dry mass decreases of 11 % caused by avirulent Aspergillus niger, 26 % by an unidentified onion pathogen, 41 % by virulent Botrytis allii, and 42 % by virulent Aspergillus niger. In the present study, the nucleolar dry mass declined by 34 % in response to F. moniliforme under the same conditions. Degradation or exit of nuclear and nucleolar macromolecules in response to fungal products secreted in advance of mycelium may be responsible for lower nuclear and nucleolar dry mass.  相似文献

Herbage allowance (HA) management during gestation–lactation cycle of cows grazing native grasslands improves pregnancy rates and calves’ weaning weight records. Those improvements were associated with greater herbage mass, and better body condition score (BCS) and metabolic status of the cows, which could affect grazing and maternal behaviour, particularly when temporary suckling restriction (TSR) and flushing (FL) is applied. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of HA during the gestation–lactation period on cows’ and calves’ liveweight (LW), BCS, milk yield, insulin, IGF-1 and leptin concentrations, as well as the proportion of diurnal grazing activities (grazing, ruminating, walking and idling), and maternal behaviour from −10 to 70 days relative to TSR (day 0 = initiation of TSR at 86 ± 10 days relative to calving). Thirty-three primiparous Hereford cows were allocated to HA treatments during gestation and lactation, which annually averaged 2.5 (low = LHA) and 4 kg DM/kg LW (high = HHA). The LW and BCS of cows did not differ during −10 to 50 days but were greater in HHA than LHA at the end of the study (P < 0.05). Concentrations of IGF-1 were greater in HHA compared to LHA, while insulin and leptin did not differ. Grazing was lower in HHA than LHA, and the opposite occurred with ruminating and idling (P < 0.05). Cow–calf physical distance was greater in LHA cows compared to HHA (P < 0.05) and increased greatly in the former group after FL, while this increase was lower and later in HHA cows. Milk yield was greater in HHA (P < 0.05), and calves’ weight did not differ between treatments from day −10 to 35, but was greater in HHA compared to LHA from 45 days until the end of the study. Thus, the HHA in a low herbage height and mass condition resulted in greater IGF-1 concentrations and milk yield, and induced changes in grazing and maternal behaviour that were associated with increased cows’ LW, BCS and calves’ weight at the end of the study.  相似文献

Serum and milk Immunoglobulin M (IgM) concentrations in 11 mother-pup pairs were measured in southern elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) throughout lactation during 2 breeding seasons at King George Island. Samples were obtained sequentially throughout the suckling period (approximately 23 days). The IgM concentration was measured by single radial immunodiffusion on agarose plates. Milk IgM concentrations showed significant differences throughout lactation, with the highest concentrations on the 1st day (x=989.7 mg/dL skimmed milk; SD=433.2) followed by a sharp fall during the next 3–6 days of the suckling period. The ratio of milk IgM/serum IgM concentrations from mothers ranged from 0.21 to 21.92, with highest values in the 1st day of lactation (x=8.25, SD=5.4) and a decrease in concentration as lactation progressed. This was due to the fact that, throughout lactation, milk IgM concentrations fell while serum IgM values showed an increasing trend. Pups showed the lowest serum IgM values in the 1st day of the suckling period (x=13.0 mg/dL, SD=4.3) with an increasing trend as lactation progressed. Despite the high IgM concentrations of milk at day 1 of lactation, by 1 week of age pups had serum IgM concentrations only slightly greater than at birth. This suggests that much of this Ig was newly formed and little or no milk IgM was absorbed during the 1st week. Possibly, the function of ingested IgM is to provide local immunity in the pup's gut, during the first few days of postnatal life. Accepted: 26 March 2000  相似文献

Alterations in the milk constituents throughout the lactation cycle have been studied in 20 Karan-Fries cross-bred cows (Holstein Fresian x Tharparkar) divided into two groups, viz. elite (n = 10) and non-elite (n = 10). About 100 ml of composite milk samples (from all the quarters) were collected through hand milking in sterile tubes from the day of calving at 15-day interval till 300 days of lactation cycle. Different milk constituents (viz. fat, protein, lactose, Solid not fat) were estimated by automatic milk analyzer. The daily milk yield varied significantly (p < 0.01) between group and different days of lactation cycle. Milk fat percentage of milk did not differ significantly between groups and different days of lactation cycle. Milk protein and lactose percentage did not differ significantly between groups but differed significantly (p < 0.001) between days. Solid not fat (SNF) percentage of milk was significantly (p < 0.01) higher in elite cows compared to non-elite cows and also varied significantly (p < 0.05) during different days of lactation cycle. In both the group of cows, milk protein, fat, and SNF percentage was highest and lactose percentage was lowest up to 1st week of lactation cycle and rapidly declined thereafter due to the transition of the colostrum into milk. After 2nd week of lactation, all the milk constituents under study were almost remained unaltered till the end of the cycle. The above stated investigation not only substantiates the already existing information of lactation stage-specific alteration in milk constituents but also depict the exact point of transition of these constituents during the lactation cycle so the nutritional and managemental interventions could be carried out in proper time.  相似文献

Milk fats are vital to neonate survival and development, but vary highly by diet, maternal metabolic state and stage of lactation. To gain a better understanding of changes in lipid composition of sow milk across lactation, milk was collected from nine multiparous sows on days 0, 3, 7, and 14, relative to birth and lipids were profiled using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) profiling. Percent fat was determined by creamatocrit, and found to be different (P < 0.05) between day 0 (12.36 ± 5.90%) and day 3 (16.22 ± 3.65%) but not between day 7 (13.13 ± 2.19%) and day 14 (12.13 ± 2.45%). Fat was extracted from milk (n = 6/day) using the Bligh-Dyer method and profiled using tandem mass spectrometry MRM to determine the abundance of lipids defined by class and fatty acyl residue composition. Lipid species relative concentration was calculated from internal standards, and data analysis was performed using Metaboanalyst 4.0. Concentration of phosphatidyl-choline, -serine, -ethanolamine, -inositol, cholesteryl ester and sphingomyelin did not vary across lactation days, nor did the distribution of associated fatty acyl residues. The total abundance of triacylglycerides (TGs) and phosphatidylglycerols (PGs) increased (P < 0.05) from colostrum (day 0) to transitional (days 3 and 7) and mature milk (day 14). As lactation days increased from day 0 to day 14, the number of carbons and unsaturation within fatty acyl residues decreased (P < 0.05) in both TGs and PGs. The proportion of TGs and PGs increased (P < 0.05) relative to other lipid classes. Changes in composition of milk triglycerides and phosphatidylglycerols likely reflect the metabolic activity of the mammary gland and developmental needs of neonates.  相似文献

We investigated milk nutrient composition from three Asian elephant cows over the first 3 years of lactation, including two consecutive lactations in one cow. Body mass gain is presented for three calves during the first year. Milk samples (n = 74) were analyzed for dry matter (DM), fat, crude protein (CP), sugar, ash, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K); gross energy (GE) was calculated. Concentrations of most nutrients changed over lactation: DM, fat, CP, Ca, P, and GE were positively correlated to calf age; sugar was negatively correlated to calf age. GE doubled between birth (1 kcal/g) and 2 years of age (2 kcal/g). After accounting for calf age, GE, fat, Ca, and P concentrations differed among the cows. Milk composition also differed between two lactations from the same cow. When milk nutrients were expressed on a mg per kcal basis, the pattern changes: CP, Ca, and P remained relatively constant over lactation on a per energy basis. Calf mass quadrupled over the first year of life; mass gain was linear at 0.9 kg/day. Asian elephant milk composition is variable, both across lactations and between cows, complicating efforts to determine representative values for comparative studies and for the formulation of elephant milk formulas. The fact that CP, Ca, and P were all relatively constant when expressed on a per energy basis may be of biological significance. The increase in nutrient density over lactation undoubtedly limits maternal water loss, reducing the volume of milk necessary to support the calf. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of water restriction on lactation performance in Aardi goats. The experiment divided into 3 periods each of 6 days; control, water restriction and rehydration. Nine lactating Aardi goats in early lactation were divided into two groups. One group (n = 5) received 50% and the other group (n = 4) received 25% restriction of drinking water relative to their consumed water during control period. Both groups exhibited a fall in dry matter intake with almost a similar rate. Live weight loss during water restriction was similar in both groups (8 and 6% in 50 and 25% water restriction, respectively). Milk production was also reduced by 20 and 18% with 50 and 25% water restriction, respectively. Milk fat percentage was lower in goats that received 25% restriction while it was maintained unchanged in the 50% restriction group. Total solids of milk tended to decrease in goats with 25% water restriction without any change in milk osmolality. Whereas, milk osmolality increased without any alterations in total solids of milk with 50% water restriction. It could be concluded that lactating Aardi goats possess a high capacity of withstanding water restriction when it was coupled with higher environmental temperature.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to evaluate the ability of a line selected for reproductive longevity (LP) to confront productive challenges compared to a line selected during 31 generations for litter size at weaning (V). A total of 133 reproductive rabbit does were used (72 and 61 from LP and V lines, respectively). Within each line, three groups with different levels of productive effort were planned: PP9, inseminated at day 4 after the first partum and with nine kits during the second partum, and inseminated after first weaning (30 days) and with nine (PW9) or five kits (PW5) during the second partum. The reproductive performance, body condition (perirrenal fat thickness (PFT)) and lipolytic response were controlled. LP does showed greater mean live weight (LW; +128 g; P < 0.05), PFT (+0.47 mm; P < 0.05) and estimated body energy (EBE; +0.29 MJ/kg; P < 0.01) than V does at second partum. However, LP does that mated at first post partum did not significantly differ in EBE relative to V does at second partum. During the first week of lactation, dry matter (DM) intake was similar for both lines (94 and 95 g DM/kg LW0.75 day for V and LP does, respectively). There was a significant difference in milk yield between both lines during the first week when litter size was nine (60 v. 54 g of milk/kg LW0.75 day for LP and V does, respectively; P < 0.01), but no difference when litter size was five. Consequently, when litter size was nine, LP does showed a lower recovery of PFT (0.6 mm less; P < 0.05) than V does during the first 10 days of lactation. However, when litter size was five, LP does showed a higher LW (+210 g; P < 0.05) than V does at 10 days of lactation and a similar recovery of PFT. During the last 3 weeks of the lactation, LP does showed a higher feed intake (+6 g DM/kg LW0.75 day; P < 0.05) and milk yield (+27 g/day; P < 0.001) than V does when litter size was nine, resulting in no significant differences in LW at 30 days of lactation. However, when litter size was five, both lines showed similar feed intake and milk yield, maintaining their differences in LW at 30 days of lactation (+206 g for LP does; P < 0.05). These results show that the rabbit line selected for reproductive longevity is more robust with respect to coping with productive challenges, than a line selected for reproductive intensity.  相似文献

Unlike most mammals, hooded seal (Cystophora cristata) pups are born with a substantial layer of adipose tissue. Subsequently, during the brief lactation period of only 4 days, fasting mothers mobilize enormous amounts of lipid from blubber and secrete milk (60% fat) at rates of 10 kg·day-1. Pups gain 7 kg·day-1 due primarily to the deposition of fat in blubber. We measured blubber content and fatty acid composition of blubber and milk in hooded seal mother-pup pairs at birth and over the 4-day lactation period to examine the nature and source of fetal lipids, the incorporation of maternal blubber fatty acids into milk lipid, and patterns of fatty acid deposition in suckling young. The fatty acid composition of the blubber of the newborn was notably different from that of its mother. Fetal deposition was likely due to a combination of both fetal synthesis and direct placental transfer of maternal circulating fatty acids. The blubber of the newborn was characterized by high levels (>90% of total fatty acids) of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids of primarily endogenous origin. In particular, the fetus appeared to have high Δ-9 desaturase activity as evidenced by the large amounts of 14:1n-5 (4.2%) and 16:1n-7 (37.0%) in newborn blubber compared to maternal blubber (0.2% and 14.1%, respectively). Nevertheless, essential and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 and n-6 families, which could only have originated by direct transfer from the mother, comprised>7% of pup blubber fatty acids and indicated greater rates of placental transfer than found in humans. In hooded seal mothers, rapid lipid transfer during the brief lactation period appeared to be facilitated by direct incorporation of mobilized fatty acids into milk. Although some differences in proportions of specific fatty acids were found between milk and maternal blubber, most of these differences declined over the course of lactation. However, selective mobilization of 20:5n-3 from maternal blubber into milk was apparent throughout lactation and resulted in elevated levels in pup blubber at weaning compared to maternal blubber. Ingested fatty acids were deposited directly and without modification into the blubber of pups, and by 4 days the fatty acid composition of pup blubber was virtually identical to that of the milk consumed.  相似文献

The effects of water deprivation, rehydration and hyperhydration were investigated in the black Moroccan goat (Capra hircus). Mean daily water intake was 46 ± 5 ml/kg in lactating and 36 ± 4 ml/kg in non-lactating black Moroccan goats, and milk production 21 ± 1 ml/kg. Mean urine excretion was 8 ± 2 ml/kg body weight in both groups, and the daily water losses via evaporation and feces were estimated at 23 ± 3 ml/kg during lactation and 28 ± 4 ml/kg during non-lactation. Forty-eight hours of water deprivation caused a body weight loss of 9% and 6% in lactating and non-lactating goats, respectively, and a drop of 28% in milk production with only a slight decrease in food intake. After rehydration, the elevated plasma osmolality as well as Na and total protein concentrations returned to basal values within 2–3 hr, indicating a rapid absorption of the ingested water, but urine excretion did not increase. After hyperhydration (10% of body weight), 46% of the load was excreted by the kidneys within 6 hr. In conclusion, black Moroccan goats have a low water turnover, and they can retain water upon rehydration but not store excess water after hyperhydration.  相似文献
