A novel design of a polarization filter based on photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed in this paper. With the introduction of a gold-coated air hole, the resonance strength is much stronger in y-polarized direction than in x-polarized direction at some particular wavelengths, which is due to the metal surface plasmon effects. At the wavelength of 1.31 μm, the loss of y-polarized mode is 2138.34 dB/cm while the loss is very low in x polarization. Furthermore, the loss peak can be flexibly adjusted from the wavelength of 1.26 to 1.56 μm by changing the thickness of a gold layer, and the loss in y polarization can be kept above 1200 dB/cm. The significant loss in y polarization makes this PCF a good candidate for developing a polarization filter with high performance.  相似文献

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) probe with gold nanowires as the plasmonic material is proposed in this work. The coupling characteristics and sensing properties of the probe are numerically investigated by the finite element method. The probe is designed to detect low refractive indices between 1.27 and 1.36. The maximum spectral sensitivity and amplitude sensitivity are 6 × 103 nm/RIU and 600 RIU?1, respectively, corresponding to a resolution of 2.8 × 10?5 RIU for the overall refractive index range. Our analysis shows that the PCF-SPR probe can be used for lower refractive index detection.  相似文献

We propose a modified design for a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) polarization filter based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The air holes are arrayed in diamond lattices, and the diameter of the holes around the gold-coated holes are different that can separate the refractive index of the x-polarization and y-polarization second order surface plasmon polariton (SPP) modes. The influences of structural parameters of the photonic crystal fiber (PCF) on the filter characteristics are studied using the finite element method (FEM). Great changes have taken place in the results of numerical simulation by changing the thickness of the gold film and air hole diameter. Simulation results show that the resonance wavelength is communication wavelength 1550 mm, the loss of the y-polarization mode is 43,126.7 dB/m. When the length of the fiber is 500 μm, extinction ratio is more than 20 dB at the communication wavelength, and bandwidth achieve to 190 nm. It is an important property of PCF polarization filter in production.  相似文献

We propose a highly sensitive side-polished birefringent photonic crystal fiber (PCF) sensor based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The polished surface of the proposed structure is coated with indium tin oxide (ITO) to excite plasmon and the analytes can be placed on the flat surface easily instead of filling the voids. The birefringent nature of the structure helps in coupling more fields to the ITO-dielectric interface. With the optimum thickness of 110 nm of ITO, the structure shows a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 17000 nm/RIU with a resolution of 5.8?×?10?6 RIU. Further this also showed an amplitude sensitivity of 74 RIU?1 along with a resolution of 1.35?×?10?5 RIU. Moreover, the effect of bending on this low loss structure is also analyzed.  相似文献

Most studies of polymorphism and differentiation are based on a single gene; few have treated differences among numerous genes. We have analyzed the parameters of conservation, polymorphism, and genetic differentiation to find the preferred index of 40 genes, with 1,614 sequences from cattle, goats, and sheep. Clustering and principal component factor (PCF) analyses revealed three PCFs: PCF1, representing polymorphism and differentiation; PCF2, representing nucleotide usage; and PCF3, representing gene flow (G ST ) and gene differentiation (δ ST ). We found significantly higher correlations (p < 0.001) with other indices for sequence conservation (r of –0.66 to –0.98), θη (0.52–0.95), and γ ST (0.54–0.96). This shows that they are preferable for estimating conservation, polymorphism, and differentiation of genes, respectively. The codon bias index was significantly different between the autosome and sex chromosomes (p < 0.01).  相似文献

We present a photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, whose operating wavelength range is tunable. Gold nanoshells, consisting of silica cores coated with thin gold shells, are designed to be the functional material of the sensor because of their attractive optical properties. It is demonstrated that the resonant wavelength of the sensor can be precisely tuned in a broad range, 660 nm to 3.1 μm, across the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum by varying the diameter of the core and the thickness of the shell. Furthermore, the effects of structural parameters of the sensor on the sensing properties are systematically analyzed and discussed based on the numerical simulations. It is observed that a high spectral sensitivity of 4111.4 nm/RIU with the resolution of 2.45 × 10?5 RIU can be achieved in the sensing range of 1.33–1.38. These features make the sensor of great importance for a wide range of applications, especially in biosensing.  相似文献

We computationally demonstrate one-way optical transmission characteristics of a subwavelength slit. We comparatively study the effect in single layer and double layer metallic corrugations. We also investigate the effect of a dielectric spacer layer between double corrugations to control the volumetric coupling of plasmon and optical modes. We computationally show unidirectional transmission behavior with an ultrahigh contrast ratio of 53.4 dB at λ?=?1.56 μm. Volumetric coupling efficiency through the nanoslit strongly depends on the efficient excitation of both the surface plasmon resonance and metal–insulator–metal waveguide modes. We show that the behavior is tunable in a wide spectral range.  相似文献

A surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed for low refractive index (RI) detection. The core of PCF is formed by two-layer air walls and either layer is composed of six identical sector rings with negative curvature. Plasmonic material gold (Au) is coated on the external cladding surface. Finite element method (FEM) is applied to investigate the performance of the SPR sensor. Results show that the sensor is independent of polarization due to the coincident coupling properties of the two polarized modes. Additionally, in low RI ranging from 1.20 to 1.33, the sensor keeps a high spectral sensitivity with an average value of 7738 nm/RIU. When RI varies from 1.32 to 1.33, the resolution reaches to its maximum of 8.3 × 10−6. The proposed sensor shows much significance in low RI detection, which is promising in real-time measurement for medical, water pollution, and humidity.

We design two kinds of plasmonic broadband polarization splitters based on dual-core photonic crystal fiber (DC-PCF) with elliptical Au or Ag nanowire in this paper. It is analyzed for the polarization independent characterestics of the designed DC-PCF by the finite element method (FEM). In order to excite the surface plasmon resonance (SPR), the metal Au and Ag are filled into elliptical central air hole. The resonance coupling between the fourth- or fifth-order surface plasmon modes (SPMs) and core-guided modes (CGMs) are founded by this numerical simulation. The device lengths of the designed splitters with Au nanowire are 2937 and 827 μm at the wavelength of 1.31 and 1.55 μm, respectively. As the extinction ratios are better than ?20 dB, its bandwidths are better than 94 and 103 nm. For the designed Ag nanowire splitter, the device lengths are 3066 or 809 μm at 1.31 or 1.55 μm, respectively. The bandwidths with the extinction ratio better than ?20 dB are 66 and 104 nm, respectively.  相似文献

A dual-core and dual D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor with silver and aluminum nitride (AlN) films is designed. The distribution characteristics of the electromagnetic fields of core and plasmon modes, as well as the sensing properties, are numerically studied by finite element method (FEM). The structure parameters of the designed sensor are optimized by the optical loss spectrum. The results show the resonance wavelength variation of 489 nm for the refractive index (RI) range of 1.36?~?1.42. In addition, a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 13,400 nm/RIU with the corresponding RI resolution of 7.46?×?10?6 RIU is obtained in the RI range of 1.41?~?1.42. The proposed sensor with the merits of high sensitivity, low cost, and simple structure has a wide application in the fields of RI sensing, such as hazardous gas detection, environmental monitoring, and biochemical analysis.

This paper deals with the development and analysis of D-Shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) biosensors using surface plasmon resonance (SPR). A thin metal layer is deposited on the outer flat surface of the PCF that behaves as the plasmonic material. Analyte is filled in the outermost peripheral region of metal layer. Finite element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layer (PML) is applied to analyze the proposed sensors. Mode analysis is performed on the proposed structures to evaluate various parameters of SPR-based PCF sensors. Three D-shaped PCF structures have been proposed with silver (Ag), gold (Au) and two-half layers of both (Ag-Au) on its flat surface. The first two structures are analyzed to the range of wavelength where the SPR will occur to facilitate understanding of the third structure. It is observed that the structures with one metal have only one sensitive plasmonic peak whereas the structure with two metal layers has two sensitive plasmonic peaks, making it suitable candidate for two-molecule sensing present in a sample analyte. Good sensitivities and resolutions are achieved for both plasmonic peaks.

Plasmonic colour filters and polarizers were fabricated using a nanotransfer printing technique, where aluminium nanostructures were directly transferred from a metal coated silicon stamp on to a piece of polycarbonate (PC) sheet. Using a moderate pressure of 10 bar and a temperature of 120 °C, an area of 10?×?12 mm was successfully printed, with a minimum feature size of 75 nm. Slight undercutting of the silicon stamp structure helped to separate the top metal from that on the sidewalls and to greatly improve the printing quality. The metal film printed on to the PC substrate showed a smoother surface than those directly evaporated onto the silicon stamp. The plasmonic colour filters fabricated using this fast and inexpensive technique demonstrated similar functionalities to devices fabricated using electron beam lithography and dry etch processing. Experimental results for filters and wire grid polarizers were in good agreement with simulations.  相似文献

Exciton-plasmon coupling can significantly modify the spectral response of semiconductor quantum dots in a metal nanoparticle-semiconductor complex system. β-In2S3 quantum dots of size ~3 nm and Ag nanospheres of size ~100 nm were synthesized by chemical route and coated over glass substrates. In the strong coupling regime, the plasmons are shown to mediate indirect Coulomb interaction between the quantum dots. In the proximity of Ag plasmons, the excitonic binding energy of the β-In2S3 quantum dots increases by ~500 meV, indicating that the interaction potential between the quantum dots is positive and repulsive in nature. This interaction also leads to strong coupling of the defect levels in the SQD complex. The defect emission wavelength can be enhanced by an order of 102 or shifted from red region (~650 nm) to green (~550 nm) by controlling the plasmon-induced defect level coupling. The experimental observation demonstrates one of the theoretically predicted consequences of exciton-plasmon interaction. This work demonstrates the possibility of harnessing the potential of the two complimentary systems (semiconductor quantum dots and metal nanoparticles) to achieve controllable emission and absorption properties for fabrication of nano plasmonic devices.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulations and a modified Poisson–Boltzmann (MPB) theory are used to investigate the temperature dependence of the capacitance (around the potential of zero charge) of an electric double layer in the presence of surface polarization due to a dielectric boundary. Within the context of the restricted primitive model planar double layer, whose solvent dielectric constant is ε2, the cases when the electrode is an insulator (ε1 = 1), when the electrode and the electrolyte have the same permittivity (ε1 = ε2, no polarization), and when the electrode is a conductor (ε1 → ∞) are studied for the case where the electrolyte concentration is 0.1 M. The simulations reveal a capacitance anomaly, that is, a positive temperature dependence of the capacitance at low temperatures for the former two situations. The MPB theory also shows this effect for these two situations and is in qualitative or better agreement with the simulation data. In these two cases, both the simulations and theory show a dramatic increase of the diffuse layer potential in the temperature regime where capacitance anomaly occurs. However, in the latter situation, where the electrode is metallic, the capacitance always has a negative temperature derivative for the MPB theory and probably also for the simulation data.  相似文献

Purpose

A method to quantify the climate impact of products called product carbon footprint (PCF) has been gaining popularity in recent years. However, variations of this method have resulted in several competing standards to guide the carbon calculation process. The aim of the current paper was to compare PCF results when calculated according to the different standards.

Methods

The three leading PCF standards are Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2050:2011, ISO.DIN 2 14067 and Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard (PARS) 2011. These standards were compared conceptually, and a case study was performed in which the PCF of a poinsettia plant produced in Germany was calculated according to all three standards.

Results and discussion

The PCF results were 0.45–0.50, 0.53–0.58 and 0.53–0.59 kg carbon dioxide equivalent according to PAS 2050:2011, ISO.DIN 2 14067 and PARS 2011, respectively. According to all standards, the life cycle stage contributing the most greenhouse gases (GHGs) was the production of the poinsettia plant, and the single process with the highest emissions was the electricity use in the production. It was found that if nonrenewable fuels were used for heating instead of wood chips, then heating would be the highest GHG contributor—accounting for over 80 % of emissions of the total PCF.

Conclusions

A key finding was that both the production system used and the decisions taken by the person carrying out the PCF calculation result in greater differences in the PCF result than the use of different standards. Differences among the three standards could be harmonised by more specific cut-off rules and exclusion criteria with the publication of ISO.DIN 2 14067, as well as the development and use of product category rules.  相似文献

The Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Mn contents of the liver, spleen, muscle, bones, scales, gills, and the whole body of 3- to 7-year-old notothenioid Antarctic cod (Notothenia coriiceps, Richardson, 1844) were measured. The highest heavy metal concentrations obtained are as follows: Cd in liver, the mean value was 1.36 ± 0.19 mg/kg dry weight (wt); Pb and Zn in spleen, the mean values were 3.33 ± 0.86 and 143.97 ± 16.17 mg/kg dry wt, respectively; Cu in gills, 3.76 ± 1.16 mg/kg dry wt; and Mn in scales, 14.80 ± 4.77 mg/kg dry wt. The comparison with the data reported up to now shows that the metal concentrations varied within relative wide ranges. These first data obtained could be used as a baseline to investigate further relationships among metal contents in fish, their diet, and habitat.  相似文献
