Using immunofluorescence, vitellogenin has been identified in the fat body of ovariectomized females of Porcellio dilatatus. Using immunoradiography of incubated fat body in leucine-14C-labeled medium, this organ has been demonstrated to be the synthesis site. Storage, but not synthesis, has also been proven in a particular kind of hepatopancreatic cell which might play a part in the resorption of vitellogenin excess.  相似文献

Microphallus species occur primarily as intestinal parasites of birds and mammals, and metacercariae of a new species belonging to this genus have been discovered from the crab, Macrophthalmus dilatatus, in the Republic of Korea. The metacercaria of this fluke was round with 2 thick walls, and the excysted one had mature genital organs. The adult flukes recovered from experimentally infected chicks had numerous intrauterine eggs, well-developed pars prostatica, widely bifurcating ceca, and prominent uterine bulge. After observing internal structures, it was concluded that this species is different from any other known Microphallus spp. Based on the morphology of metacercariae and adult flukes, we describe this specimen as a new species, Microphallus koreana n. sp.  相似文献

Metacercariae of Gynaecotyla squatarolae (Digenea: Microphallidae) were discovered from the shore crab, Macrophthalmus dilatatus, purchased at a market in a coastal town of Taean-Eup, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea. Their adult flukes were confirmed by experimental infection of rats. The metacercariae of G. squatarolae were elliptical (391.1 x 362.5 micrometer), and the excysted metacercariae had progenetic genital organs, including the ovary and testes. To obtain adult flukes, 6 Sprague-Dawley rats were fed 500 metacercariae each, and killed at days 2, 4, and 6 post-infection. The adult flukes were identified as G. squatarolae (Yamaguti, 1934) Yamaguti, 1939, based on morphological characters, including 2 ventral suckers (1 large and 1 small), a large genital atrium equipped with the cirrus and the metraterm, separated male and female genital pores, a transversely long cirrus pouch, and extensive vitelline follicles. In the present study, it has been first proven that the shore crab M. dilatatus is a second intermediate host for G. squatarolae in the Republic of Korea.  相似文献

Synthesis and release of vitellogenin in the crustacean Isopoda, Porcellio dilatatus, were maximal during premolt. At that time, diurnal variations occurred in the haemolymph protein level and in the synthesis and release of vitellogenin and other proteins in the haemolymph. The pattern of variations was always identical and bimodal: the minima were at dusk and at dawn when the maxima occurred in the middle of the day and of the night. These variations were highly significant, and the diurnal means were significantly higher than the nocturnal means.  相似文献

Paragehyra Angel is a gekkonine genus endemic to Madagascar. From 1929 until the present, the genus was represented only by the holotype of the single known species. Paragehyra petiti. The type locality of P. petiti is in the driest part of Madagascar (south-west) where rainless periods may exceed 11 months and the original vegetation consists of thorn scrub or dry deciduous forest. No new individuals of P. petiti were observed. However, a second, undescribed species of the genus was discovered in October 1990 on the opposite side of the island (south-east) in primary-low montane rainforest. The new form was observed at four localities at the southernmost extremity of rainforest in Madagascar.  相似文献

Uromunna naherba sp. nov. is described from eelgrass beds (Zostera marina and Z. noltii) of the NW Iberian Peninsula. This is the second species of the genus reported from the NE Atlantic, after U. petiti. The new species was more abundant on rhizomes than on the leaves of the plants. Seasonal samples show that ovigerous females are present throughout the year, but become more abundant in late spring and summer, when adult males decrease in frequency. Ovigerous females appear in only one size class. Owing to the yearly productivity cycle of the eelgrasses, these data suggest that the species is semelparous and completes its lifecycle within 1 year. The taxonomic characters of the genus are discussed.  相似文献

Many arthropods, including terrestrial isopods, are capable of entering a state of tonic immobility upon a mechanical disturbance. Here we compare the responses to mechanical stimulation in three terrestrial isopods Balloniscus glaber, Balloniscus sellowii and Porcellio dilatatus. We applied three stimuli in a random order and recorded whether each individual was responsive (i.e. showed tonic immobility) or not and the duration of the response. In another trial we related the time needed to elicit tonic immobility and the duration of response of each individual. Balloniscus sellowii was the least responsive species and Porcellio dilatatus was the most, with 23% and 89% of the tested individuals, respectively, being responsive. Smaller Balloniscus sellowii were more responsive than larger individuals. Porcellio dilatatus responded more promptly than the Balloniscus spp. but it showed the shortest response. Neither sex, size nor the type of stimulus explained the variability found in the duration of tonic immobility. These results reveal a large variability in tonic immobility behavior, even between closely related species, which seems to reflect a species-specific response to predators with different foraging modes.  相似文献

Utilization of patchy habitats by adult populations of three Pieris butterflies, P. rapae, P. melete and P. napi was studied throughout the flight season in an area of their coexistence, about 3×1.5 km, in a farm village in the mountains in Inabu, Aichi Prefecture. Field study was by the mark-recapture method. Results were analyzed by dispersal distances and recapture duration decay curves for adults of different age-classes estimated on the basis of physical condition of their wings, together with supplementary information of daliy egg-laying rate of females, obtained in field cages. Sexually immature, mated femals of P. rapae after teneral stage showed a migratory flight. On the other hand, reproductive females and all males of P. rapae were strongly resident within suitable habitats, and reproductive females begun to lay eggs abundantly at sunny places of newly suitable areas within a short period. P. melete seemed to disperse gradually from emerged stites and females of this species continued to lay some constant numbers of eggs for more than ten days over a wider area. P. napi appeared more like P. melete than P. rapae. The habitats of the three species can be characterized as follows:P. rapae, temporary, continued for pre-reproductive females but localized for reproductive females and all males, and unstable;P. melete, permanent, widespread, and stable;P. napi, permanent, localized, and stable. The numbers of generations of P. rapae, P. melete and P. napi were estimated to be about six, three and three, respectively. Seasonal fluctuations in the number of adults were influenced by the stability of their habitats, i. e., the population size fluctuated sharply in P. rapae, but it was much more stable in P. melete and P. napi. In view of these results, it can be said that P. rapae fits the general characteristics of a r-strategist whereas P. melete and P. napi are more K-strategic than P. rapae.  相似文献

Finger prints of the Bagathas, a dominant endogamous tribal population of Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh (India) were analysed. They are distributed in Araku, Paderu and Chintapalli agency areas of Visakhapatnam district of A.P. Investigations on finger prints of 235 males and 235 females reveal that loops are higher in females (57.58%) than in males (49.19%). Sex differences in the distribution of the patterns are statistically significant (X2 = 27.8277; d.f. = 2; 0.001 > P). The index of pattern intensity shows a higher value in males (14.17) than the females (12.84). It is evident from the mean ridge counts that there is a clear sexual dimorphism, males showing higher mean ridge counts than females. Bagathas show greater affinity with the Valmikis in the frequency distribution of pattern types and in the pattern intensity index. However, a more detailed dermatoglyphic study of all the tribes of Andhra Pradesh yields information of great value in disclosing the pattern distributions among these Dravidian or proto-Australoid tribal populations.  相似文献

Protein electrophoresis was used to investigate the systematics of cockroaches of the Australian endemic subfamily Geoscapheinae. All morphologically-recognized taxa are genetically distinguishable. Indeed, the electrophoretic data suggest that several species ( M. rhinoceros, G. dilatatus and, possibly, M. monteithi ) comprise more than one genetic taxon. Some species ( M. heppleorum and G. robustus ) have high levels of intra-specific variation, possibly reflecting regional differentiation in broad distributions. Conversely, there are low levels of variation over large areas of some species' distributions, notably in the Murray-Darling basin ( G. robustus and G. dilatatus ). Genetic distances between taxa conflict with the current assignment of species to genera based on the morphological characteristics of tergite margins. Where this is the case, the genetic data are in accord with expectations based on geographical proximity and other morphological characters. For instance, the members of the genetic sister groups Neogeoscapheus dahmsi Rom and Parapanesthia pearsoni Walker, Rugg and Rose, and P. gigantea (Tepper) and M. saxicola Walker, Rugg and Rose are geographically very near neighbours. The Northern and inland species of Macropanesthia are found in a Geoscapheus cluster comprising their nearest geographical neighbours rather than with the central and southern Queensland Macropanesthia. Genetic distances are concordant with the presence or absence of an oothecal membrane and the degree of elaboration of male genitalia in geoscapheine species. The level of genetic and taxonomic diversity among the Geoscapheinae near the borders of the subfamily's range in south-eastern Queensland is striking. A Nei unbiased distance of almost 0.80 is required to encompass all 13 morphospecies in the area within a cluster, whereas the most divergent species in the entire Geoscapheinae are separated by a distance of about 1.05.  相似文献

Pararalichus gen.n. (Pterolichidae, Pterolichinae) is described; two species groups, from species of Brotogeris Vigors and Touit Gray, respectively, include two named and ten new species. [ =Pterolichus (P.) hemiphyllus ] from Touit batavica (Boddaert), Surinam, Trinidad; P. dilectissimae sp.n. thrn T. dilectissima (Sclater & Salvin), Colmbia, Costa Rica; P. huetii sp.n. from T. huetii (Temminck), Brazil, Guyana, Peru; P. parpuratae sp.n. from T. purpurata (Gmelin), Brazil, Guyana, Surinam; P. surdae sp.n. from T. surda (Kuhl), Brazil. The effect of dichlorvos on the blood cells of P. pictus males and females was studied. The insecticide produced numerous changes in the haemocytes, such as changes in shape and size, displacement of the nucleus, bulging of the cytoplasm, formation of pseudopodia, vacuolation, shrinkage of the nucleus and karyorrhexis. The effect on all the types of haemocytes was not the same, however, some types being more susceptible than others and some not susceptible at all. The effect of the insecticide on the haemocytes was of only short duration and was followed by a return to normal.  相似文献

Molecular polymorphism of six species of Thysanoptera of both sexes, collected from different locations and host plants in Hungary was studied by using RAPD-PCR technique. The specimens were classified according to sampling sites (G?d?ll?, Nagykovácsi and Valkó), host plants (Lathyrus tuberosus, Medicago sativa, Taraxacum officinale, Trifolium pratense), sexes, and larvae in case of Aeolothrips intermedius. On the basis of the total of 103 fragments generated by 15 RAPD primers the genetic distances were calculated by cluster analysis using simple matching method. The dendrogram resulted in two main groups: Aeolothripidae (Aeolothrips intermedius) and Thripidae (Frankliniella intonsa, Kakothrips robustus, Odontothrips confusus, Thrips dilatatus and T. tabaci). Within the family Thripidae two subgroups were observed including (i) F. intonsa, T. dilatatus and T. tabaci, and (ii) K. robustus and O. confusus. Two population-specific and one sex-linked fragments were identified by the RAPD primers, OPQ 14, NO11 and OPA08, respectively.  相似文献

Pukeko, Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus breed as pairs or groups and the breeding behaviour of individuals in all units is described and compared. Courtship, including copulation, occurred between all adult members in a territory although male-female copulations were most frequent. Low ranking yearlings were excluded from copulation. Participation in copulation by more than two birds was common, and, along with homosexual behaviour, is believed to help synchronize sexual cycles allowing several females to lay in the same nest at the same time. Only adults incubated, while all birds in a territory assisted with chick care, the degree of participation varying with status. In pair territories, older chicks helped feed younger chicks. Stable kin groups were more coordinated and showed less competitive aggression among members than non-kin groups of unstable membership. The significance of these results is discussed and it is argued that in a situation where an adult group is necessary for the defence of a breeding territory, then it is in the interests of all these individuals to participate in all breeding activities.  相似文献

A 4-year study of the social organization of spotted hyaenas in a clan of 60–80 individuals showed that there is a separate dominance hierarchy within each sex. One female and her descendants dominated all others; matrilineal rankings were stable over time because maternal rank is inherited. Cubs of higher ranking females were able to feed at kills in competition with adults more successfully than other cubs, and male offspring of the alpha female were the only males able to dominate adult females. The mating system is highly polygynous: only the behaviourally dominant male was seen to mate, though all other resident males regularly courted females. Among females, there was no correlation between reproductive success and age, size, or social rank. It is postulated that the unusually aggressive sons of the alpha female would probably be highly successful competitors in the context of a polygynous mating system. A primary consequence of female dominance over males is that females and their young have priority of access to food in a highly competitive feeding situation. This competition may have been the selective force that produced female dominance and the associated syndrome of female virilization that is characteristic of the species. Cooperation among related females may be the basis for the matrilineal system, as has been suggested for certain primate species.  相似文献

A study of the population structure of olive baboons {Papio anubis (J. P. Fischer)) was conducted near Rumuruti and Nanyuki in the Laikipia District of Kenya during 1969. The overall male: female ratio was 96:100 for all animals captured. The sex ratio of immature baboons favoured males, while adult females outnumbered adult males. Male baboons demonstrated an increased mortality during the juvenile stage primarily due to exploratory behaviour. Female baboons demonstrated an increased mortality incurred during the first pregnancy or birth early in the adult stage. About 50 % of adult females had an infant offspring, while about 75% had a juvenile offspring. Adult female baboons in their native environment produce an offspring every 2.5-3.0 years. No birth peak was discernable and births occurred throughout the year.  相似文献

Examination of ventilation function in an average population showed that maximum minute ventilation in adults fell with advancing age. Males had higher values than females, the highest values being attained, in both sexes, at 18 (117 and 83 1/min respectively). Tidal volume during loading, expressed as a percentage of vital capacity, rose with advancing age in all groups of males and females (from 53% at 18 to 64% at 55 in males and from 51% to 59% in females). The ventilation equivalents for O2 and CO2 attained optimum values at a load of 100 W in males and at 50 W in females. On increasing the load they rose in both sexes--in females more than in males. Percentual utilization of O2 from the inspired air was greatest in males at a load of about 100 W (4.8--5%) and in females at about 50 W (4.3--4.8%). At higher loads it fell faster in females than in males. In males, the respiratory quocient attained the value 1 at a load of about 2 W/kg body weight and in females at 1.5 W/kg. At maximum loading it was over 1 in all the age categories. No differences between males and females were observed, but males, in maximum loading, gave the greatest absolute and the greatest relative performance.  相似文献
