1. During vitellogenesis in nature the concentration of phospholipid in serum of female flounders is correlated to the concentration of vitellogenin. 2. High levels of glucose and total lipid in blood occur before the onset of vitellogenesis. During early vitellogenesis the values decrease. At spawning they reach maximum levels. After spawning they decrease to low levels. 3. The concentration of glycogen in the liver oscillates during the period August to May. The phosphorylase activity shows peak activities with high concentrations of glycogen in the liver. Trends in Dissolved Organic Carbon in UK Rivers and Lakes   总被引:11,自引:6,他引:5  
Several studies have highlighted an increase in DOC concentration in streams and lakes of UK upland catchments though the causal mechanisms controlling the increase have yet to be fully explained. This study, compiles a comprehensive data set of DOC concentration records for UK catchments to evaluate trends and test whether observed increases are ubiquitous over time and space. The study analysed monthly DOC time series from 198 sites, including 29 lakes, 8 water supply reservoirs and 161 rivers. The records vary in length from 8 to 42 years going back as far as 1961. Of the 198 sites, 153 (77%) show an upward trend in DOC concentration significant at the 95% level, the remaining 45 (23%) show no significant trend and no sites show a significant decrease in DOC concentration. The average annual increase in DOC concentration was 0.17 mg C/l/year. The dataset shows: (i) a spatial consistent upward trend in the DOC concentration independent of regional effects of rainfall, acid and nitrogen deposition, and local effects of land-use change; (ii) a temporally consistent increase in DOC concentration for period back as far as the 1960s; (iii) the increase in DOC concentration means an estimated DOC flux from the UK as 0.86 Mt C for the year 2002 and is increasing at 0.02 Mt C/year. Possible reasons for the increasing DOC concentration are discussed.  相似文献

采用盆栽试验,研究元谋干热河谷燥红土和变性土上生长的植物叶片以及凋落叶营养元素含量,并分析养分重吸收效率对土壤类型与物种互作的响应.结果表明: 土壤类型对叶片N、P、Ca、Mg、Cu、Zn、Fe、N∶P以及凋落叶N、P、Mn、N∶P均有显著影响;燥红土植物叶片与凋落叶N、Mn含量和N∶P显著高于变性土,而燥红土植物叶片P、Ca、Mg、Fe、Cu、Zn和凋落叶P含量显著低于变性土.燥红土植物叶片N含量较变性土高34.8%,而P含量低40.0%;在叶片凋落时,N、P、K表现为重吸收,而其他元素呈富集状态.燥红土凋落叶Ca、Mg、Mn富集系数显著高于变性土.物种仅对叶片N含量有显著影响,物种与土壤交互作用对植物叶片和凋落叶元素含量影响不显著,表明各土壤类型对不同物种元素含量的影响方式较为一致.土壤类型对植物元素含量的影响可进一步作用于干热河谷植物凋落物分解、植物-土壤的养分反馈以及生物地球化学循环.  相似文献

The roles of three membrane proteins, BOR1, DUR3, and FPS1, in boron (B) transport in yeast were examined. The boron concentration in yeast cells lacking BOR1 was elevated upon exposure to 90 mM boric acid, whereas cells lacking DUR3 or FPS1 showed lower boron concentrations. Compared with control cells, cells overexpressing BOR1 or FPS1 had a lower boron concentration, and cells overexpressing DUR3 had a higher boron concentration. These results suggest that, in addition to the efflux boron transporter BOR1, DUR3 and FPS1 play important roles in regulating the cellular boron concentration. Analysis of the yeast transformants for tolerance to a high boric acid concentration revealed an apparent negative correlation between the protoplasmic boron concentration and the degree of tolerance to a high external boron concentration. Thus, BOR1, DUR3, and FPS1 appear to be involved in tolerance to boric acid and the maintenance of the protoplasmic boron concentration.  相似文献

Immunoreactive luteinizing hormone and oestradiol-17β were measured by radioimmunoassay in 28 Murrah buffaloes. The concentration peaked sharply in blood plasma (plasma) coincident with the onset of oestrus (range 0 to +6 h), whereas the oestradiol-17β concentration increased before the onset of oestrus (range ?8 to ?17 h). There were erratic fluctuations in the LH concentration in milk which did not correlate with the concentration in the plasma. However, the basal concentration of LH in milk was significantly higher (P < 0.01) than in plasma. The oestradiol-17β concentration in milk mimicked that in plasma and was significantly higher (P < 0.001) than in plasma. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) of these hormones in primiparous and multiparous animals.  相似文献

Erythrocyte membrane zinc concentration was measured in 14 normal volunteers and in 36 patients with taste and smell dysfunction, and compared with zinc concentration in erythrocyte cytosol and blood plasma in the normal volunteers and with zinc concentration in erythrocyte cytosol, blood serum, urine, and parotid saliva in the patients. A A significant negative correlation was found between age and membrane zinc concentration in the normals. A significant positive correlation was found between parotid saliva zinc and erythrocyte membrane zinc concentrations in the patients. Concentration of zinc in the erythrocyte membrane is 50% greater than its concentration in cytosol, and three times greater than the zinc concentration in plasma or serum; membrane zinc concentration in humans is approximately one-half that reported in the dog or in the mouse.  相似文献

Concentrations of purine and pyrimidine ribonucleotides were measured with HPLC in lymphocytes of man, horse, pig and sheep and in rat thymocytes. The ATP concentration was highest in lymphocytes of all species and about 850 pmol/10(6) cells in human and equine lymphocytes, higher in porcine and lower in ovine lymphocytes and rat thymocytes. The GTP concentration was comparable in human, equine and porcine lymphocytes, but lower in ovine lymphocytes. ATP concentration was also measured in lymphocytes of man, horse and pig with a luciferin-luciferase assay. During culturing with or without phytohemagglutinin the ATP concentrations decreased in these lymphocytes. The concentrations of TTP and dATP were measured with a DNA polymerase assay. Phytohemagglutinin-stimulation increased the TTP concentration in lymphocytes of all three species, the dATP concentration only in human lymphocytes. ATP, TTP and dATP concentrations and thymidine incorporation were measured in phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes after 24 and 48 h culturing in the presence of adenosine or deoxyadenosine. Adenosine increased the ATP concentration in porcine and equine, but not in human lymphocytes. Deoxyadenosine and adenosine did not affect the TTP concentration. Deoxyadenosine decreased the ATP concentration only in the presence of EHNA in human lymphocytes, but increased it in other conditions and in equine and porcine lymphocytes. Deoxyadenosine in the presence of EHNA increased the dATP concentration in human, equine and porcine lymphocytes 3-, 10-, and 9-fold, respectively, and decreased considerably thymidine incorporation. Deoxyadenosine without EHNA increased the dATP concentration 2-5-fold, decreased the thymidine incorporation in lymphocytes of man and horse, but stimulated incorporation in porcine lymphocytes about 5-fold. The latter results indicate that accumulation of dATP is not always associated with inhibition of cell proliferation.  相似文献

The relationship between seminal selenium (Se) concentration and spermatozoal abnormalities in 24 Angus and 12 Simmental bulls maintained on a Se adequate diet was studied. Two semen samples were collected by electroejaculation 50 days apart from each bull. Measurements of primary and secondary spermatozoal abnormalities, seminal Se concentration, and blood plasma Se concentration were determined at each semen collection. The mean (chi +/- SD ) Se concentration of semen (0.535 +/- 0.267) was approximately 8 fold greater than the Se concentration of blood plasma (0.069 +/- 0.066) and the values were similar for both collections. Spermatozoa concentration was correlated (r = 0.50; P<.01) with seminal Se concentration; however, seminal Se concentration was not highly correlated (P<.01) with primary spermatozoal abnormalities (r = -0.29) and secondary spermatozoal abnormalities (r = 0.16). This study indicates that the Se concentration of semen is high relative to blood plasma in bulls maintained on a Se adequate diet; however, the seminal Se concentration is not highly correlated with spermatozoal abnormalities.  相似文献

The effects of postnatal development and aging on the concentration of dopamine, noradrenaline, serotonin and their principle metabolites have been studied in the hippocampus of the rat. During development the concentration of dopamine increases 1.5 fold during the first 90 days. 3-methoxytyramine was found in low concentrations. The homovanillic acid and DOPAC concentrations showed no changes apart from a decrease at day 15 and an increase at day 8, respectively. From birth up to 30 months, the noradrenaline concentration increased by a factor of about 10. Their metabolites each showed a different profile. The concentration of tryptophan was always the highest among the compounds studied. It decreased from birth to day 15, while the concentration of serotonin and 5-hydroxyindolacetic acid increased 3 and 5 fold respectively during this time. However, 5-hydroxytryptophan and 5-hydroxytryptophol concentrations were very low and unchanged at all stages. These findings led to the conclusion that the neurotransmitters: noradrenaline and serotonin, are developed in the hippocampus during the first three months. During aging, the serotonin concentration is increased without significant change in the other compounds studied.  相似文献

Summary Diurnal changes in the concentration of cAMP in white clover were investigated biochemically and histochemically. Biochemical assays showed that a) the concentration of cAMP in healthy leaves was consistently higher than in CYMV-diseased leaves under the same light condition and b) the concentration of cAMP in clover leaves exhibited a diurnal cycle. The diurnal changes in cAMP concentration were present in both healthy and CYMV-diseased clover leaves. Histochemical localization tests indicated that the adenylate cyclase activity could be semi quantilated as more dense reaction products were present in the membrane systems of healthy than CYMV-diseased leaves. The histochemical results were consistent with the biochemical data.  相似文献

The concentration of epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine, and the activity of norepinephrine N-methyltransferase, the epinephrine-forming enzyme, were determined in hypothalamus and brain stem in several species. 2. Epinephrine concentration in hypothalamus, a nerve terminal region, varied in the order frog greater than turtle greater than chicken greater than cat greater than dog greater than pigeon greater than rat greater than ferret greater than hamster greater than mouse, with concentrations being undetectable in rabbits, horses and guinea pigs. 3. Epinephrine concentration was lower than norepinephrine concentration in all species except the frog. 4. NMT activity was detected in all species except guinea pigs. 5. Epinephrine concentration was lower in brain stem, a cell body region, than in hypothalamus in all species. Only in the frog brain stem was there more epinephrine than norepinephrine. 6. No epinephrine or NMT activity was detected in either brain region in guinea-pigs.  相似文献

The effect of cadmium (Cd) on both the absorption of important nutrients and the synthesis of low molecular weight thiols (LMWTs) was investigated in corn plants. The inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy results demonstrated that the concentration of Cd in tissues (mainly in roots) increased as the concentration in the medium increased. In addition, the concentration of phosphorus increased in roots of Cd treated plants but remained at normal concentration in shoots. On the other hand, the uptake of sulfur (S) followed a similar trend as the Cd uptake. The concentration of S and the production of LMWT were found to increase significantly upon exposure to Cd. The results of the X-ray absorption spectroscopy analyses indicated that Cd within tissues was bound to S ligands with interatomic distances of 2.51–2.52 Å. These results confirm a strong linkage between S uptake and the production of LMWT upon exposure to Cd.  相似文献

Amniotic fluid (AF) lactate concentration and time-dependent changes in blood lactate concentration in mares after parturition have never been evaluated. In this study, the venous blood lactate concentration of mares and foals during the first 72 h of the postpartum period was assessed, and the concentration of lactate in the AF collected during delivery and the utility of its measurement for evaluating the foal's health were investigated. This prospective observational study was carried out on mares attended at delivery. They were divided into mares delivering healthy (Group 1) and sick (Group 2) foals. The following samples were collected: AF and umbilical blood at delivery, mare's and foal's jugular blood every 12 hours from parturition until 72 h postpartum (T0-T72). Sixty-two mares were enrolled in Group 1 and 19 in Group 2. In Group 2, the survival rate was 68.4%. The median blood lactate of the foals at T0 was 3.60 mmol/L in Group 1 and 5.05 mmol/L in Group 2. The monitoring of the blood lactate concentration showed a significant time-dependent decrease from T24 in the foals (P < 0.01) and from T12 in the mares (P < 0.01). Lactate concentration over time was significantly different between healthy and sick foals (P < 0.01) but not between mares with normal and dystocic delivery (P = 0.08). A significant difference (P = 0.04) was detected as regards AF lactate concentration between Group 1 (median 14.99 mmol/L) and Group 2 (median 12.61 mmol/L). For the first time, AF lactate concentration was evaluated during parturition, and significantly higher levels were found in mares delivering healthy foals. This was an unexpected and very interesting result which warrants further investigation involving a larger number of mares. Additional studies are needed before either mare's blood or AF lactate concentration can be used in a clinical setting.  相似文献

The present experiments addressed the questions of how electrical stimulation influenced the magnitude, time course, and regional levels of free intracellular calcium of different identified neurons. The calcium concentration in the growth cones, neurites and cell bodies of Helisoma buccal neurons B4 and B19 was measured while somata were electrically stimulated via an intracellular electrode. The findings showed that calcium levels in B4 and B19 increased monotonically with increasing stimulation frequency. However, the range of calcium levels evoked by electrical stimulation differed significantly for each type of neuron. The greater increase in calcium concentration in B4 was correlated with its longer duration action potential compared to B19. The increase in calcium concentration was much smaller in the cell bodies than in the growth cones and neurites. Extending the duration of the B19 action potential produced a sixfold increase in the change in calcium concentration at 2 Hz stimulation. Under conditions where the electrical stimulation produced a calcium concentration of < 160 nM, the elevated level of free intracellular calcium remained constant. When calcium concentration increased above 200 nM in both identified neurons, an initial peak concentration was followed by a decline to a lower concentration suggesting increased calcium buffering occurring above 200 nM. By correlating the calcium concentration data herein with growth data from a previous study, we suggest that specific calcium levels that influence neurite outgrowth may differ widely between neurons. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The basal and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced plasma concentrations of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) were studied in four anestrous and four ovariectomized (OVX) bitches. Blood samples were obtained via jugular venipuncture 40min before and 0, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120min after the i.v. administration of synthetic GnRH in a dose of 10microg/kg body weight. The basal plasma FSH and LH concentrations were significantly higher in the OVX bitches than in the anestrous bitches. In the anestrous bitches, the plasma FSH concentration was significantly higher than the pretreatment level at 10, 20, and 30min, whereas the plasma LH concentration was significantly elevated at 10 and 20min. The maximal GnRH-induced plasma FSH concentration in the anestrous bitches did not surpass the lowest plasma FSH concentration in the OVX bitches, whereas the GnRH-induced plasma LH concentrations in the anestrous bitches overlapped with the basal plasma LH concentrations in the OVX bitches. In the OVX bitches, GnRH administration did not induce a significant change in the plasma FSH concentration, whereas the plasma LH concentration increased significantly at 10 and 20min. In conclusion, the results of the present study indicate that in anestrous bitches GnRH challenge results in increased plasma levels of both FSH and LH, whereas in the OVX bitches, in which the basal plasma FSH and LH concentrations are higher, only a rise in the plasma LH concentration is present after GnRH stimulation. The results also suggest that a test to measure plasma concentration of FSH in single samples appears to have potential in verification of neuter status in bitches.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of research on mercury in the soil and leaves of maple (Acer plantanoides) and linden (Tilia platyphyllos) collected in the four districts of the city of Poznań (Poland), which differ in terms of anthropogenic pressure. The average concentration of mercury in soil was 132 μg kg?1. The highest concentration of mercury was determined in Tilia platyphyllos (233 μg kg?1), whereas in Acer plantanoides it amounted to 207 μg kg?1. Based on the study, it was found that the highest concentration of mercury in the investigated leaf species was observed in the samples collected in the districts of Grunwald, Je?yce, and Old Town. The lowest concentration was observed in the samples collected in the district of New Town. The comparison of the obtained results of mercury concentration in soil and leaf samples was made in terms of anthropogenic pressure in the investigated areas and depending on the studied leaf species. Based on the statistical analysis, it was found that there is no statistically significant relationship between mercury concentration in both studied species of trees. There was, however, a relationship between the mercury concentration in leaves and soil.  相似文献

The death rate of hybridoma cells, grown in a continuous culture, has been studied in a small air-lift loop reactor as a function of reactor height and injected gas flow rate. The first-order death-rate constant was found to be proportional to the reciprocal height and to the gas flow rate, in accordance with the hypothetical killing volume model for insect cells in bubble columns. Furthermore, the effect of the serum concentration on viable cell concentration and cell productivity has been investigated in a continuous culture. A serum component became growth limiting when the serum concentration was decreased from 2% to 1%. No effect of the serum concentration on specific cell productivity could be measured. Samples from this culture were also studied in the air-lift loop reactor to determine the effect of serum concentration on the shear sensitivity. The cells' shear sensitivity increased with decreasing serum concentration. The protective effect of serum was found to be physical as well as physiological.  相似文献

Circadian rhythms in noradrenergic (NE) and dopaminergic (DA) metabolites and in cyclic nucleotide production were measured in discrete regions of rat brain. A circadian rhythm was found in the concentration of the NE metabolite, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), in the hippocampus. No MHPG rhythm was found in frontal, cingulate, parietal, piriform, insular or temporal cortex, or in hypothalamus. Circadian rhythms in the concentration of the NE metabolite, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylglycol (DHPG), occurred in occipital and parietal cortex and hypothalamus, with no rhythm observable in temporal or insular cortex, hippocampus, pons-medulla or cerebellum. The 24-hr mean concentration of MHPG varied 3.5-fold, highest in cingulate and lowest in parietal, temporal and occipital cortex. The 24-hr mean concentration of DHPG varied 6-fold, highest in hypothalamus and lowest in parietal cortex. Circadian rhythms in the concentration of the DA metabolite, homovanillic acid (HVA), were found in olfactory tubercle, amygdala and caudate-putamen, but not in nucleus accumbens. A circadian rhythm in the concentration of the DA metabolite, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), occurred in nucleus accumbens, but not in olfactory tubercle or caudate-putamen. The mean 24-hr concentration of HVA was highest in caudate-putamen, intermediate in nucleus accumbens, and lowest in olfactory tubercle and amygdala. The mean 24-hr concentration of DOPAC was highest in nucleus accumbens and lower in olfactory tubercle and caudate-putamen. Circadian rhythms were found in the concentration of cyclic GMP (cGMP) in all regions measured except parietal cortex. The mean 24-hr concentration varied 128-fold, highest in nucleus accumbens, frontal poles, and hypothalamus and lowest in cingulate cortex. Circadian rhythms in cyclic AMP (cAMP) concentration were found in piriform, temporal, occipital, cingulate, and parietal cortex, amygdala and nucleus accumbens. No rhythms were found in frontal or insular cortex, hypothalamus, hippocampus, caudate-putamen or olfactory tubercle. The 24-hr mean cAMP concentration varied 4-fold, highest in parietal cortex and lowest in caudate-putamen and amygdala. Norepinephrine metabolites and dopamine metabolites were rhythmic in few regions. It is, therefore, unlikely that the rhythmicity measured in adrenergic receptors is, in general, a response to rhythmic changes in adrenergic transmitter release. The putative second messenger response systems, especially cGMP, were more often rhythmic. It has been demonstrated that electric stimulation of the central ends of cut vagus nerves or angiotensin II infusion cause an increase in vasopressin concentration and cardiodepressant activity in the sella turcica venous blood. The present study was an attempt to determine if the cardiodepressant factor and vasopressin were simultaneously released from the pituitary into the blood dialysate after osmotic stimulation, and whether excitatory amino acids are involved in this mechanism. The samples of dialysates of venous blood flowing from the sella turcica region and, for comparison, from the femoral vein were collected in anaesthetised rats. The concentration of vasopressin in blood dialysate was determined by radioimmunoassay, and cardiodepressant activity on spontaneously discharging pacemaker tissue of the right auricle of the right heart atrium. Osmotic stimulation or N-methyl-D-aspartic acid infusion caused an increase in cardiodepressant activity and vasopressin concentration in the blood dialysate from the sella turcica and from the femoral vein. A blockade of the excitatory amino acids receptors by specific and non-specific antagonists significantly inhibited the increase in the blood dialysate vasopressin concentration and cardiodepressant activity elicited by an intra-arterial injection of hypertonic saline. These data indicate that excitatory amino acids are involved in the mechanism of increase in blood vasopressin and cardiodepressant factor concentration in response to osmotic stimulation. These results also demonstrate the utility of blood minidialysis for simultaneous monitoring of active substances concentration in the blood.  相似文献

The effect of medium Ca2+ concentration upon the concentration and the rate of synthesis of muscle proteins was investigated in chicken pectoralis muscle cultures. There is an easily identifiable class of muscle protein which includes the Ca2+-ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum, myosin, troponin C, ATP : creatine phosphotransferase, muscle specific actin, tropomysin 1 and 2, and muscle hemagglutinin, which show a large increase in concentration during normal development. The increased synthesis of these proteins was inhibited, without inhibition of cell proliferation, in culture media of relatively low Ca2+ concentration, 0.05--0.3 mM, where fusion was prevented. Similar medium Ca2+ concentration was required for the expression of all these proteins, suggesting their coordinate regulation. The proteins are denoted as 'calcium-modulated proteins'. The increased Ca2+ transport activity of sarcoplasmic reticulum in cultured chicken pectoralis muscle cells during development at 1.8 mM medium calcium concentration represents de novo synthesis of the Ca2+ transport ATPase, as shown by immunoprecipitation, active site labeling and direct identification of the Ca2+ transport ATPase on two-dimensional gel electropherograms of whole muscle homogenates. The concentration and the turnover rate of the majority of the muscle proteins is not affected significantly by medium Ca2+ concentration between 0.06 and 1.8 mM. It is proposed that increase in cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration during fusion plays a central role in the regulation of the synthesis of calcium-modulated proteins.  相似文献
