Abstract

This paper provides a model to predict soil ingestion recovery values in soil ingestion studies either retrospectively or prospectively. The predictive equations generated from the model can be used to estimate minimum soil ingestion detection levels from soil ingestion studies which use mass-balance methods. The model is derived from data assessing soil recovery efficiencies in adults using eight different predictive tracer elements. The results constitute a methodology to determine minimum detection levels of soil ingestion, and hence have important regulatory significance.  相似文献

Soil ingestion estimates from mass balance soil ingestion studies can be used in Monte Carlo Risk assessment. We develop and describe a simulation model based on four mass balance soil ingestion studies that enables food ingestion, soil ingestion, and transit time to be mimicked. We use the simulation to evaluate potential biases that exist in current estimates of the distribution of daily soil ingestion in children (constructed from subject specific average daily estimates). The simulation identifies the importance of the study duration on the bias in the upper percentile soil ingestion estimates, indicating that the 95% soil ingestion estimate may be positively biased by over 100%. Misspecification of play areas for soil sampling is shown to have no biasing effect, and absorption of trace elements in food of up to 30% is shown to bias the soil ingestion distribution by less than 20 mg/d. The results, based on Al and Si trace element estimates, define the limits of previously published soil ingestion estimates, and provide insight for future study design and estimation methods.  相似文献

本文运用微生态学研究方法,对健康妇女阴道乳酸杆菌的分布情况进行调查。结果表明:健康妇女阴道乳酸杆菌的分离率75.44%,平均活菌数均值(log10~n±SD)7.2810±1.1618。常见的阴道乳酸杆菌种的分离率及活菌对数值为:嗜酸乳杆菌(33.3%,7.6883±1.4076),唾液乳杆菌(10.53%,6.4949±1.4254),乳酸乳杆菌(8.8%,8.0687±1.7102),德氏乳杆菌(7.0%,8.1134±0.6311),赖氏乳杆菌(7.0%,7.3349±0.9052)。揭示这几种乳杆菌可能是健康妇女阴道乳酸杆菌属的重要成员,其生理学意义及种类、数量变化的临床意义,值得进一步研究。  相似文献

We report the development of a quantitative assay for measuring SH2 domain binding in vitro. Using this assay we have analyzed the binding of purified recombinant SH2 domains from ras GTPase activating protein (GAP) and the 85-kDa subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (p85) to proteins from epidermal growth factor-stimulated and v-src-transformed cells. The purified recombinant SH2 domains from GAP and p85 bind to the tyrosine phosphorylated epidermal growth factor receptor with nanomolar affinities. Moreover, competition studies suggest that these two proteins bind to equivalent or overlapping sites on this receptor. In v-src-transformed cells the purified recombinant SH2 domains from GAP and p85 bind to distinct but overlapping sets of proteins.  相似文献

When stem segments of tobacco F1(Nicotiana glaucaxN. langsdorffii)seedlings were cultured on a hormone-free medium in the light,tumorous tissues were induced on the segments within 5 days.The fresh weight of the tissues increased rapidly, with a 10-foldincrease in weight every 6 days. Morphological observationsrevealed the active division of cells and the primordium-likestructures of the teratomas that had been induced during the5 days after cutting of the stem segments. In the light-growntissues of genetic tumors, IAA was revealed to be the predominantauxin by analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. NormalF1 seedlings grown in the light contained endogenous IAA ata concentration of 3.4 ng/g fr wt. Five days after cutting,the level of endogenous IAA in stem segments rose to 96 ng/gfr wt or more, and then it decreased to 9.1 ng/g fr wt by 11days. SYNOPSIS. In this study the characteristics of the synthesis of DNA and RNA in the nuclei of Loxodes were investigated. Loxodes striatus is a primitive ciliate with 2 pairs of structurally differentiated diploid nuclei, the macro- and micronuclei. The macronuclei are differentiated morphologically into a clearly recognizable central core and an outer zone. To determine DNA and RNA synthesis, individual organisms were analyzed by autoradiography after incubating groups of cells with a 3H-labeled precursor ([3H]thymidine for DNA and [3H]uridine for RNA). The following observations were made: (A) All portions of macro- and micronuclei appeared to contain DNA as judged by the localizations of incorporated [3H]thymidine. (B) The macro- and micronuclei did not synthesize DNA at the same time; moreover, the duration of DNA synthesis in the former was much longer than of the latter nucleus. (C) Replication of DNA in the inner core and outer zone of the macronucleus occurred at separate times with little if any overlap. (D) All of the detectable [3H]uridine incorporation was found in the macronucleus and none in the micronucleus. Within the macro-nucleus the central core was more heavily labeled. (E) The quantitative differences in the label of the different components of the nuclear complex were investigated. (F) Contrary to the previously reported information our results suggest that DNA synthesis can occur in adult macronuclei. The possible explanation of these results is discussed in the context of the nuclear evolution of ciliates and of recent information on nuclear differentiation.  相似文献

Background

Although the importance of detecting, treating, and controlling hypertension has been recognized for decades, the majority of patients with hypertension remain uncontrolled. The path from evidence to practice contains many potential barriers, but their role has not been reviewed systematically. This review aimed to synthesize and identify important barriers to hypertension control as reported by patients and healthcare providers.

Methods

Electronic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE and Global Health were searched systematically up to February 2013. Two reviewers independently selected eligible studies. Two reviewers categorized barriers based on a theoretical framework of behavior change. The theoretical framework suggests that a change in behavior requires a strong commitment to change [intention], the necessary skills and abilities to adopt the behavior [capability], and an absence of health system and support constraints.

Findings

Twenty-five qualitative studies and 44 quantitative studies met the inclusion criteria. In qualitative studies, health system barriers were most commonly discussed in studies of patients and health care providers. Quantitative studies identified disagreement with clinical recommendations as the most common barrier among health care providers. Quantitative studies of patients yielded different results: lack of knowledge was the most common barrier to hypertension awareness. Stress, anxiety and depression were most commonly reported as barriers that hindered or delayed adoption of a healthier lifestyle. In terms of hypertension treatment adherence, patients mostly reported forgetting to take their medication. Finally, priority setting barriers were most commonly reported by patients in terms of following up with their health care providers.

Conclusions

This review identified a wide range of barriers facing patients and health care providers pursuing hypertension control, indicating the need for targeted multi-faceted interventions. More methodologically rigorous studies that encompass the range of barriers and that include low- and middle-income countries are required in order to inform policies to improve hypertension control.  相似文献

Ingestion of non-food items/mouthing behavior results in exposure of children to contaminants in soil/dust. We characterize the prevalence of such behaviors in healthy children. The relative frequency of such behaviors was assessed by parent interviews for 533 children age 1 to 6. Thirty-eight percent of children put soil in their mouths at least monthly, 24% at least weekly, and 11% daily. High-risk behavior decreased quickly for children aged 2 or more, but was still reported at least monthly by 3 to 9% of parents of children up through age 6. Highest outdoor object mouthing rates occur among 1-year-old children, who are reported to play daily in sand/dirt and have generally high levels of mouthing. Such children may have higher soil/dust ingestion and higher exposure to contaminants when soil/dust contains lead or other agents. These high-risk groups may help focus educational interventions and/or risk assessments.  相似文献

The degree to which extrinsic factors influence migration chronology in North American waterfowl has not been quantified, particularly for dabbling ducks. Previous studies have examined waterfowl migration using various methods, however, quantitative approaches to define avian migration chronology over broad spatio-temporal scales are limited, and the implications for using different approaches have not been assessed. We used movement data from 19 female adult mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) equipped with solar-powered global positioning system satellite transmitters to evaluate two individual level approaches for quantifying migration chronology. The first approach defined migration based on individual movements among geopolitical boundaries (state, provincial, international), whereas the second method modeled net displacement as a function of time using nonlinear models. Differences in migration chronologies identified by each of the approaches were examined with analysis of variance. The geopolitical method identified mean autumn migration midpoints at 15 November 2010 and 13 November 2011, whereas the net displacement method identified midpoints at 15 November 2010 and 14 November 2011. The mean midpoints for spring migration were 3 April 2011 and 20 March 2012 using the geopolitical method and 31 March 2011 and 22 March 2012 using the net displacement method. The duration, initiation date, midpoint, and termination date for both autumn and spring migration did not differ between the two individual level approaches. Although we did not detect differences in migration parameters between the different approaches, the net displacement metric offers broad potential to address questions in movement ecology for migrating species. Ultimately, an objective definition of migration chronology will allow researchers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the extrinsic factors that drive migration at the individual and population levels. As a result, targeted conservation plans can be developed to support planning for habitat management and evaluation of long-term climate effects.  相似文献
