AIMS: To compare the basal plasma reproductive hormonal profile in three groups of athletes involved in different training programs, and to define the relationship between androgen level and bone mineral density (BMD) in male athletes. METHODS: Basal serum total testosterone (TT), free androgen index (FAI), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), cortisol, cortisol to TT ratio, luteinizing hormone (LH), estrogen and BMD were evaluated in cyclists (CY; n = 11), triathletes (TR; n = 14) and swimmers (SW; n = 13) and compared with less active controls (n = 10). RESULTS: TT and FAI levels were lower (p < 0.05) in CY and TR, whereas the ratio of cortisol to TT was increased in CY only (p < 0.05). No alteration in serum LH, SHBG, estrogen or cortisol concentration was observed. BMD was higher in the proximal femur in TR (p < 0.05). No BMD or hormonal differences were found in SW. CONCLUSION: Only the endurance training of CY and TR induced androgen deficiency without apparent alteration of BMD.  相似文献

ObjectiveCalculated free testosterone (cFT) is determined from total testosterone (TT), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and albumin (Alb) levels using mathematical formulae. Variations in cFT due to changes in SHBG or Alb have not been investigated. We evaluated potential cFT variances determined with fixed Alb (4.3 g/dL) and measured Alb, and the point at which low SHBG and Alb combinations produced significant cFT variance.MethodWe analyzed 11,176 data points from 5,797 men. cFT values with fixed versus actual Alb values were evaluated and compared. cFT levels were theoretically determined for all possible combinations of TT, SHBG, and Alb (8,343,552 combinations). Agreement between the 2 measures was assessed with Lin’s concordance coefficient.ResultsMean Alb was 4.06 ± 0.32 g/dL. Mean SHBG was 39.0 ± 23.6 nmol/L. A fixed Alb of 4.3 g/dL did not produce significant variance for most cFT evaluations. Accuracy decreased when Alb was ≤3.5 g/dL in combination with SHBG ≤30 nmol/L, and this occurred in 1.2% of all data points.ConclusionA fixed Alb of 4.3 g/dL is acceptable for most clinical evaluations. If Alb is <3.5 g/dL and SHBG is <30 nmol/L, the variance increases, and a free testosterone (FT) measurement by equilibrium dialysis is warranted for better accuracy. BACKGROUND: Measured endocrinological parameters (total testosterone [TT], free testosterone [FT], dihydrotestosterone [DHT], dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate [DHEAS], and sex hormone binding globulin [SHBG]) and calculated parameters (calculated FT (cFT), calculated bioavailable testosterone (cBT), and the free androgen index [FAI]) in women with hirsutism were compared to the values of a control group. The question remains if cFT or cBT are more appropriate markers for assessment of hyperandrogenemia in clinical situations such as hirsutism in women. METHODS: Sixty-six women showed an modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mF-G) score of >or=6 and were classified as hirsutism group and 58 women showed mF-G scores of 相似文献

To establish the relation between photoperiodicity and the levels of LH, FSH, and testosterone (T) in plasma, three intact and three castrated adult male white-tailed deer were sampled once a month for 2-3 years. The rang of average LH levels in controls varied between 0.8 and 2.0 ng/mL; the levels in castrates were considerably higher, 3.4 to 8.9 ng/mL. Average levels of FSH varied in controls between 25 and 112 ng/mL and in castrates between 141 and 240 ng/mL. A significant correlation between the seasonal time course of LH and FSH was found in castrated, but not in intact bucks. In castrates both gonadotropins exhibit two major elevations coinciding with spring and fall equinoxes in March and September. The seasonal time course of FSH in castrates correlates highly with seasonal levels of FSH in controls. However, the time course of the LH curve in controls is substantially different from the curve in castrates, presumably owing to feedback mechanisms. A possible role of testicular estradiol in this feedback is discussed. In controls, peak T levels are reached in December, i.e., 3 months after maximum levels of FSH and 5 months after peak levels of LH were detected. It appears that male deer undergo two periods of reproductive stimulation (one in the spring, the other in the fall). However, the organism responds with the full range of gonadal and behavioral mechanisms leading to the initiation of the rut only during the fall.  相似文献

Elevated ghrelin plasma levels in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common endocrine disorder in women. It is associated with hirsuitism, obesity, insulin resistance, abnormality in the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) axis and polycystic ovaries. The etiology of PCOS has not been clarified. Ghrelin is an endogenous ligand of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor. It is mainly secreted by stomach cells but has also been shown to be present in hypothalamus, pituitary, pancreas and gonads. Ghrelin is a regulator of energy homeostasis and GH secretion. The influence of ghrelin on insulin secretion and gonadal function is known. Since ghrelin may play an important role in pathophysiology of PCOS, we studied ghrelin levels in a group of 52 women with PCOS and in 16 women in a control group. Plasma levels of insulin, total testosterone, SHBG, LH, and FSH were also measured. In conclusion, PCOS women have higher ghrelin levels than controls. Ghrelin negatively correlates with BMI and insulin levels in PCOS group. A relation between ghrelin and SHBG was observed. Our data suggest that ghrelin could be the possible link in PCOS etiology.  相似文献

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of combined hypocaloric diet and metformin on circulating testosterone and leptin levels in obese men with or without type 2 diabetes. Research Methods and Procedures: Twenty obese men with type 2 diabetes (mean body mass index [BMI]: 35.5 ± 1.1 kg/m2) and 20 nondiabetic obese men were enrolled in the study. We measured serum follicle‐stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH), total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT), sex‐hormone‐binding globulin (SHBG), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), and plasma leptin levels before and 3 months after metformin treatment. Both groups were placed on a hypocaloric diet and 850 mg of metformin taken orally twice daily for 3 months. Results: Metformin and hypocaloric diets led to decreases in BMI and waist and hip circumferences in both groups. A significant decrease in TT levels in the diabetic group and FT levels in the control group was found, whereas follicle‐stimulating hormone, LH, and DHEAS levels were not changed significantly. A significant increase in SHBG levels was observed in the control group but not in the patient group. Leptin levels also decreased after treatment in both groups. Decreased testosterone levels were not correlated to changes in waist and hip circumference, waist‐to‐hip ratio, BMI, and levels of fasting blood glucose, leptin, SHBG, or DHEAS in the diabetic group. However, a decrease in FT was correlated to changes in the levels of SHBG (r = ?0.71, p = 0.001) and LH (r = 0.80, p = 0.001) but not to other parameters. Discussion: We conclude that metformin treatment combined with a hypocaloric diet leads to reduced FT levels in obese nondiabetic men and to reduced TT levels in obese men with type 2 diabetes. Increased SHBG levels may account for the decrease in FT levels in the former group.  相似文献

The present study aims to examine how zinc and testosterone supplementation, in combination and separately, affect plasma LH, FSH and leptin levels in castrated rats. Eighty experimental animals used in the study were allocated to 8 groups, each containing an equal number of rats. Group 1, control group; Group 2, castration group; Group 3, testosterone group (5 mg/kg/day); Group 4, zinc-supplemented group (3 mg/kg/day); Group 5, testosterone and zinc-supplemented group; Group 6, zinc-supplemented castration group; Group 7, testosterone and castration group; and Group 8, zinc-supplemented, testosterone and castration group. Plasma zinc, leptin, LH, FSH and free and total testosterone levels were determined in the blood samples collected from the animals by decapitation. Group 2 had the highest leptin levels and together with group 6, it also showed the highest LH and FSH levels (p<0.01). The lowest leptin levels were observed in groups 3 and 7 (p<0.01). Leptin levels in groups 4 and 6 were higher than those in groups 1, 5 and 8 (p<0.01). LH levels in group 4 were lower than those in groups 2 and 6 and higher than those in all other groups (p<0.01). Free and total testosterone levels in groups 7 and 8 were lower than those in groups 3 and 5, but higher than those in all other groups (p<0.01). Plasma LH levels may be more effective than testosterone on plasma leptin and zinc may be an important mediator of the effect LH has on leptin.  相似文献

Introduction

The diagnosis of acquired hypogonadism is still an important issue for laboratory medicine. Hypogonadism is defined as a sustained decrease of total testosterone confirmed by the biochemistry laboratory and total testosterone measurement is proposed as the initial step in the investigation of hypogonadism. If TT is over 12 nmol/l, the probability of hypogonadism is considered low and it is suggested that patients be referred to others methods of investigation. Only a small percentage of men aged 50 and over are treated for hypogonadism. Seventy percent of men investigated for hypogonadism have a TT of over 12 nmol/l and there is an unpredictable increase of SHBG during this period, reducing the bioavailability of circulating testosterone. The hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis is modified with age and contributes to hypogonadism. The efficacy of biochemical investigation of hypogonadism needs to be reassessed.

Materials and methods

Total testosterone and LH were measured on the Centaur immunoanalyser (Siemens) and SHBG was analysed on the Immulite 2000 (Siemens). Bioavailable testosterone was calculated using the formula provided by ISSAM.

Results

Using the algorithm based on TT, only 27.9% of men would have been investigated for hypogonadism. Of the 638 patients considered as normal, 325 showed an index of hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis stimulation and possible hypogonadism, revealed by an elevated LH. In these patients with TT superior to 12 nmol/l and a LH superior to 7 UI/l, SHBG level was at the upper limit of or over the reference range. No correlation was observed between calculated BT and the abnormal LH level found in these patients. Calculated BT was not considered a good marker of hypogonadism for these patients.

Conclusion

Elevated LH is a biochemical marker of hypogonadism and should be interpreted in the context of stimulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary gonadal axis. Based on our data, an initial step in the investigation of hypogonadism based only on TT does not seem suitable for the identification of all patients who might experience hypogonadism. A complete investigation should be offered to all patients with clinical evidence of hypogonadism whatever their TT level. In patients who might benefit from hormonal treatment, calculated BT should be interpreted with caution. A definition of hypogonadism based on TT does not seem appropriate and a new definition based on bioavailable testosterone and the hypothalamopituitary gonadal axis should be considered.  相似文献

Objective

Low grade systemic inflammation (LGSI) as well as androgen deficiency has in older men been associated with several pathologies, including cardiovascular disease (CVD). We wanted to investigate whether low testosterone levels are linked to biomarkers of LGSI already in young age, before any concurrent manifestations of CVD or other systemic diseases.

Design

Nested cross-sectional study.

Methods

Forty subfertile biochemically hypogonadal (n = 20) or eugonadal (n = 20) men (mean age 37 years, SD = 4.3) and 20 age-matched controls were randomly selected from an ongoing study on male subfertility. Subjects comprised male partners in infertile couples in whom also subnormal sperm concentration was present. Blood sampling, interviews, and anthropometric measures were undertaken. Serum levels of testosterone, LH, estradiol, SHBG, and 21 LGSI-markers were assessed.

Results

Among 21 inflammatory markers, macrophage inflammatory protein 1-alpha (MIP1a) (ß = −0.025; p = 0.028), 1-beta (MIP1B) (ß = −0.015; p = 0.049) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFa) (ß = −0.015; p = 0.040) showed negative association to total testosterone (TT) levels. MIP1a (ß = −1.95; p = 0.001) and TNFa (ß = −0.95; p = 0.014) showed negative association to calculated free testosterone (cFT) levels. Compared to men with normal TT and cFT levels, TNFa levels were higher in men with subnormal levels of TT (mean ratio 1.61; p = 0.006) and cFT (mean ratio 1.58; p = 0.007). Also, MIP1a levels were higher in men with subnormal levels of TT (mean ratio 1.84; p = 0.030).

Conclusions

Subnormal testosterone may already in young age associate to LGSI, which might be a part of the mechanism underlying adverse health outcomes of male hypogonadism.  相似文献

We hypothesized that short-term calorie restriction would blunt luteinizing hormone (LH) hypersecretion in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and thereby ameliorate the anovulatory endocrine milieu. To test this hypothesis, 15 obese patients with PCOS and nine age- and body mass index-matched healthy women underwent 24-h blood sampling to quantitate plasma LH, leptin, and insulin levels. PCOS subjects were prescribed a very low caloric liquid diet (4.2 MJ/day) for 7 days and were then resampled. Basal and pulsatile LH secretion was threefold higher in PCOS subjects, but plasma insulin and leptin levels were not different in the calorie-replete state. Contrary to expectation, calorie restriction enhanced basal and pulsatile LH secretion even further. As expected, plasma glucose, insulin, and leptin concentrations decreased by 18, 75, and 50%, respectively. Serum total testosterone concentration fell by 23%, whereas serum estrone, estradiol, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and androstenedione concentrations remained unchanged. Enhanced LH secretion in the presence of normal metabolic and hormonal adaptations to calorie restriction points to anomalous feedback control of pituitary LH release in PCOS.  相似文献

The effect of uni- and bilateral cryptorchidism on testicular inhibin and testosterone secretion and their relationships to gonadotropins were studied in rats. Mature Wistar male rats weighing approximately 300 g were made either uni- or bilaterally cryptorchid. Testicular inhibin and testosterone content and plasma levels of LH and FSH were examined 2 weeks later. A similar remarkable decrease in testicular inhibin content was found in uni- and bilaterally cryptorchid testes. On the other hand, the testicular testosterone content was significantly decreased only in unilaterally cryptorchid testis with an inverse increase in the contralateral testis. Plasma testosterone levels were normal and plasma LH and FSH increased significantly in both of the cryptorchid groups. These results showed that cryptorchidism impairs both Sertoli and Leydig cell functions. While testosterone production was compensated by increased LH for 2 weeks, neither inhibin secretion nor storage changed in cryptorchid or contralateral testes during the same period.  相似文献

The effect of Freund's adjuvant administration on 24-hour changes of plasma prolactin, growth hormone (GH), thyrotropin (TSH), insulin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone were studied in young (2 months) and aged (18 months) male Wistar rats. Rats were injected s.c. with Freund's adjuvant or adjuvant's vehicle and, 18 days later, they were killed at 6 different time intervals throughout a 24-hour cycle to measure circulating hormone levels by specific RIAs. Young rats receiving adjuvant's vehicle exhibited significant time-of-day-dependent variations in plasma TSH, LH and testosterone, with maximal levels at 1300 h, 0100 h and 1700 h, respectively. Prolactin and insulin levels, analyzed globally in a factorial ANOVA, showed significant time-of-day changes with maximal levels at 1300 - 1700 h and 2100 h, respectively. The daily rhythms in plasma LH and testosterone found in young rats were not longer observed in Freund's adjuvant-injected rats, while as far as TSH, a second peak was observed at 0100 h after Freund's adjuvant administration. Twenty-four hour rhythms in circulating TSH, LH and testosterone were blunted in old rats receiving either Freund's adjuvant or its vehicle. Aged rats exhibited significantly higher circulating levels of prolactin, and lower levels of GH, TSH, FSH and testosterone. The results indicate that secretion of prolactin, GH, TSH, FSH and testosterone are age-dependent, as are the responses of TSH, LH and testosterone to Freund's adjuvant administration.  相似文献

For many years researchers have described some male orangutans as “subadult.” These males are of adolescent to adult age and are reproductive, but have little to no secondary sexual trait development. Until now the only endocrine study of this arrest of secondary sexual trait development was performed by Kingsley (1982, 1988). She found that “subadult” or arrested males have lower testosterone levels than similar age developing adolescents or adult males. In this study, urine samples were collected over a two-year period from 23 captive male orangutans in order to more fully define male endocrine profiles. Three study males were juveniles, seven were arrested adolescents, six were developing adolescents, and seven were mature adults. Morning samples were analyzed by radioimmunoassay for levels of testicular steroids and gonadotropins and group hormone profiles were compared by analysis of variance. Results illustrate that arrested adolescent orangutans have significantly lower testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels than developing adolescents, but significantly higher levels than juveniles. Luteinizing hormone (LH) levels also differed between arrested and developing adolescents, with arrested males having lower levels. However, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels were similar in both morphs of adolescent male. The overall hormone profiles for arrested and developing adolescent male orangutans suggest that arrested males lack levels of LH, testosterone, and DHT necessary for development of secondary sexual traits. However, they have sufficient testicular steroids, LH, and FSH to fully develop primary sexual function and fertility. These endocrine data help define alternative developmental pathways in male orangutans. The authors discuss the relationship between these developmental pathways and male orangutan reproductive strategies, and hypothesize about their prepubertal socioendocrine determination. Using histomorphological and functional criteria we describe the feedback mechanisms which could play a role in the regulation of the gonadotrophic axis during the postnatal transition to puberty in male lambs. The working hypothesis was that the testicular factors change the peripheral levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by influencing the synthesis rate and storage of LH and FSH in adenohypophyseal gonadotroph cells of weanling and weaned pubertal lambs. The examination was made in (i) 9-week-old infantiles, suckling lambs undergoing weaning, testis-intact (TEI) and orchidectomised (ORCHX) at the 6th week of age, and (ii) 16-week-old pubertal lambs TEI and ORCHX at the 12th week of age (n=5 per group). Changes in gonadotrophs were assayed with hybridohistochemistry, immunohistochemistry and radioimmunoassay. The percentage of the adenohypophyseal area (PA) occupied by cells containing LHβ-mRNA and FSHβ-mRNA and peripheral levels of both gonadotrophins were lower (P<0.01) in the 16-week-old TEI lambs in comparison with the 9-week-old ones. The PA occupied by cells immunoreactive for LHβ was lower (P<0.01), whereas in the case of FSH was greater (P<0.001) in the 16-week-old lambs. After orchidectomy the PA occupied by gonadotrophs stained for LHβ-mRNA was greater (P<0.01) in 16-week-old lambs. The PA occupied by LHβ-labelled cells was lower (P<0.05) in the 9-week-old ORCHX lambs, whereas in 16-week-old ones was higher (P<0.05) in comparison with the TEI lambs. The circulating LH was greater (P<0.01) in the ORCHX 9- and 16-week-old lambs compared to the TEI ones. The PA occupied by cells containing FSHβ-mRNA and the plasma FSH concentration were greater (P<0.001) after orchidectomy in lambs from both age stages. The PA occupied by FSHβ-labelled cells was greater (P<0.01) in the 9-week-old ORCHX lambs, whereas in 16-week-old ones was lower (P<0.05) compared to the lambs from TEI groups. In conclusion, in infantile lambs testicular factors may play inhibitory role in regulating FSH synthesis rate, storage and release in contrast to the stimulatory role in regulating LH storage reflected by the inhibitory role in regulating LH release. In lambs at the beginning of puberty, testicular factors may play inhibitory role in regulating LH synthesis rate, storage and release in contrast to the stimulatory role in regulating FSH storage reflected by the inhibitory role in regulating FSH synthesis rate and release. The effects of testicular hormones on the gonadotrophin storage, i.e. releasable pools in adenohypophyseal cells, are specific for both LH and FSH in lambs during the postnatal transition to puberty. Thus, the initiation of puberty in male sheep is a function of change of the inhibitory role of gonadal factors in regulating FSH storage to the stimulatory one and the stimulatory role of gonadal factors in regulating LH storage to the inhibitory one.  相似文献

In this study, we have evaluated the hypophyso-gonadal axis in three groups of men aged 60-69, 70-79 and 80-91 years by measuring the intratesticular concentrations of several steroids (pregnenolone, progesterone, DHEA, DHEA-S, testosterone, estradiol) and serum levels of FSH, LH, testosterone, estradiol and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). The histological examination of testes revealed normal spermatogenesis in all examined samples. No significant changes in serum hormone and SHBG concentrations as well as in testicular steroid contents among the three groups of patients were found. However, the mean serum SHBG level was three times higher in the oldest men than in other groups and a positive correlation between patient's age and serum SHBG was observed. Therefore, the bioavailability of estradiol in the oldest men was likely diminished. Consequently, the hormonal status in aged men is rather unchanged but great variations observed between patients imply special cautious when the SHBG and estradiol levels are concerned.  相似文献

A common variant of the LHbeta subunit has a varying prevalence in various ethnic groups. The consequences of the presence of mutated luteinizing hormone (LH) concern borderline alterations in pituitary/gonadal function that could be mediated by an altered action of variant LH on gonadal steroidogenesis. A comparison of plasma concentrations of gonadal steroid sex hormones was completed in women heterozygous for variant LH and in women with the wild type of LH in three different age ranges. The sample was a randomly selected group of 177 normal women 16 to 72 years old. Variant LH was determined by immunofluorimetric methods using two combinations of monoclonal antibodies. The ratios of LH measured by the two assays indicated whether the subject was wild type homozygote, heterozygote or homozygote for the variant LHbeta allele. The carriers of the variant LH allele in the group of postmenopausal women showed higher serum testosterone levels than those with the wild type LH. This is in agreement with the clinical observations made previously showing a slightly higher androgenic action in the population with variant LH. No differences were detected in serum LH, FSH, epitestosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG).  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate the most important factors affecting serum concentrations of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) in women with hirsutism. We compared endocrine profiles based on biochemical measurements of LH, FSH, oestradiol, testosterone (T), prolactin, 17-hydroxy-progesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS), SHBG, cortisol and insulin in the follicular phase in 32 healthy women and 52 patients. The study group was subdivided according to SHBG levels into Group A (low level) and Group B (high level). Significant differences between Groups A and B were found in DHEAS and T levels, but not in body mass index or insulinaemia. There was a relationship between DHEAS and SHBG levels (r = 0.51) and between T and SHBG (r = 0.31). We conclude that DHEAS may be a significant modulator of SHBG in the female hirsute patient, an observation seldom mentioned in previous reports.  相似文献

Irisin is a product of fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) and plays an important role in energy homeostasis. In this study, we aimed to determine effects of intracerebroventricular administration of irisin on the hypothalamus–pituitary–gonadal axis by molecular, biochemical, and morphological findings. Fourty male Wistar-Albino rats were used and divided into four groups including control, sham (vehicle), 10, and 100 nM irisin infused groups (n = 10). Hypothalamic gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) level and serum luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and testosterone levels were determined. Testicular tissue histology and spermiogram analysis were also performed. Both irisin concentrations significantly reduced hypothalamic GnRH messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels (p < 0.05). It was found that serum LH, FSH, and testosterone levels and Sertoli and Leydig cell numbers were decreased by irisin administration (p < 0.05). In addition, irisin administration reduced sperm density and mobility (p < 0.05). However, it did not cause any change in testicular and epididymis weights and tubular diameter. Our results reveal that irisin can play a role in the central regulation of reproductive behavior and also reduces testosterone levels by suppressing LH and FSH secretion. These results suggest that the discovery of irisin receptor antagonists may be beneficial in the treatment of infertility.  相似文献

Serum levels of LH, FSH, Prolactin and Testosterone of 90 days old male rats androgenized soon after birth were determined by specific radioimmunoassay and were compared to untreated rats. LH and FSH levels were also determined in 90 days old female rats neo-natally treated with testosterone and compared with normal diestrus rats. Androgenization of male rats significantly increased serum FSH and Prolactin levels without producing changes in plasma LH and testosterone concentrations. Similar increase in the FSH levels were found in androgenized female rats although plasma FSH concentrations were lower than in the male groups. These results obtained in male rats give an additional evidence that androgens acting in the first days of life are responsible of the higher levels of FSH and Prolactin that characterize the male or tonic pattern of gonadotrophin secretion.  相似文献

ObjectiveHyperandrogenism is frequently observed in patients with polycystic ovary (PCO). The purpose of this study was to develop an easy-to-use tool for predicting polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to evaluate and compare the value of androstenedione (Andro) and other hormone indicators in the diagnosis of patients with hyperandrogenic PCOS.MethodsThis study included 139 women diagnosed with hyperandrogenic PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria and 74 healthy control women from Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital. The serum hormone levels of the patients and controls were measured using a chemiluminescence immunoassay and incorporated for further analysis.ResultsTotal testosterone (TT), Andro, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS), and free androgen index (FAI) were significantly higher in the PCOS group than the control group. Further, Andro, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), TT, FAI, and LH/FSH in the hyperandrostenedione group were higher than the normal Andro group. The Youden index was the highest for Andro (0.65), with 81.82% sensitivity and 83.16% specificity. Correlation analysis showed that FSH, LH, TT, FAI, insulin sensitivity index, and LH/FSH were positively correlated with Andro, while fasting blood glucose and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose were negatively correlated with Andro.ConclusionsThe model using Andro, TT, and FAI may help to identifying women with undiagnosed PCOS. Serum Andro is a meaningful biomarker for hyperandrogenism in PCOS patients and may further aid disease diagnosis.  相似文献
