Interrelations between the lime leafminer, Lithocolletis issikii Kumata (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae) and the small-leaved linden Tilia cordata Mill. were studied. A significant positive correlation between the number of mines per leaf and the surface areas of individual mines was found. The interaction in the linden-lime leafminer system was found to be active: an increase in the pest density is followed by a significant increase in an individual mine surface area.  相似文献

Effects of liming and B fertilization on Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] mycorrhizas were studied in factorial field experiments. The lime was applied twice, about 30 years and 12 years before sampling (2000 and 4000 kg ha-1 dolomite). B was applied at the rate of 1.5 kg B ha-1 two years before sampling.Boron fertilization doubled the number of root tips in the top 10 mm of the humus layer. The proportion of dead short root tips was increased from 10 % in control plots to 29 % in the limed plots. Numbers of dead root tips were increased when both lime and B were applied. The % of mycorrhizas with external mycelium was slightly increased and the % of Piloderma croceum Erikss. and Hjortst. was decreased by lime. In conclusion, adverse effects of lime on mycorrhizas were found, which were ameliorated by B fertilization, but lime-induced B deficiency alone was not the only reason for the effects of lime on root mortality.  相似文献

Patterns of damage to the small-leaved lime Tilia cordata Mill. by the lime miner Phyllonorycter issikii Kumata (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae) were monitored in the city of Izhevsk from 1999 to 2002. The connection between the degree of damage done by the miner with that of environmental pollution with heavy metals (zinc, copper, iron, and lead) was shown. Smaller damage to the lime in localities with high content of heavy metals ensures preservation of foliage and creates favorable conditions for successful use of lime trees in urban landscaping.  相似文献

The influence of the lime miner, Phyllonorycter issikii, on the productivity and reproductive parameters of the small-leaved lime Tilia cordata was studied. An increasing infestation of the host plant had a significant negative effect on the linear growth of the shoots and the radial increment of the trunk, the formation of annual rings, the number of inflorescences, and sugar content in the nectar. The latter factor may create a direct threat to the efficiency of local beekeeping. It is recommended that the lime miner be included into the list of domestic quarantine objects of the Russian Federation, and that the population state of this pest be monitored.  相似文献

During hot and humid seasons, extensive rot of sour lime was observed to be caused by Aspergillus flavus. In view of this, investigations were undertaken to obtain data on the production of various toxins by A. flavus during post harvest pathogenesis of sour lime. Sixty percent of the pathogenic A. flavus isolates were detected to be aflatoxin B1 producers in sour lime tissue. It was also noted that thirty three percent of aflatoxigenic A. flavus isolates had the potential to coproduce cyclopiazonic acid (CPA). Such aflatoxigenic isolates produced quantitatively more CPA (ranging from 250.0 to 2501.3 g/kg) than aflatoxin B1 (ranging from 141.3 to 811.7 g/kg) in the affected sour lime. This study demonstrates for the first time that sour lime are a favourable substrate for aflatoxin B1 and cyclopiazonic acid production by A. flavus isolates. This is of great concern to the health of consumers.  相似文献

Soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Essex] were grown in nonsterile acid (pH. 5.2) infertile Wynnville silt loam (Glossic Fragiudult) in a glasshouse. The effects of P fertilization and lime were determined by inoculation with two VAM-fungi (VAMF): Glomus fasciculatum (Gf) and Glomus etunicatum (Ge). An important factor affected by the interaction between applied lime (soil acidity), applied P, and VAMF inoculation was the soil Al. Five application rates of P as KH2PO4 and three rates of lime were tested. Potassium was equalized with KCl (muriate of potash). P-efficiency (g seed/mg P kg-1 soil) by vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) was maximal at 20 mg P kg-1 soil at all lime and VAMF treatments. VAMF inoculation increased plant survival and protected the soybeans from leaf scorch, thereby substituting for the effects of lime and P. The Ge inoculum was superior in ameliorating leaf scorch in the nonlimed soil. The Gf inoculum required more lime and P than the Ge inoculum to increase seed yield relative to the noninoculated controls containing only native VAMF. Both inocula increased root Al uptake and extractable soil Al in the acid soil without apparent adverse effects on root or shoot. The ability of the VAMF inocula to enhance the efficiency of applied P and decrease seed Cl concentration was increased by lime. Seed yield (Y) was negatively related to seed Cl concentration (X) where Y=aX-b. Both VAMF inoculation and lime application reduced this negative relationship and may have increased the tolerance to both Cl and soil Al.  相似文献

Aims

This study aimed to examine heat curing effect (30–100°C) on antifungal activities of lime oil and its components (limonene, p‐cymene, β‐pinene and α‐pinene) at concentrations ranging from 100 to 300 μl ml?1 against Aspergillus niger in microbiological medium and to optimize heat curing of lime oil for efficient mould control on sedge (Lepironia articulata).

Methods and Results

Broth dilution method was employed to determine lime oil minimum inhibitory concentration, which was at 90 μl ml?1 with heat curing at 70°C. Limonene, a main component of lime oil, was an agent responsible for temperature dependencies of lime oil activities observed. Response surface methodology was used to construct the mathematical model describing a time period of zero mould growth on sedge as functions of heat curing temperature and lime oil concentration. Heat curing of 90 μl ml?1 lime oil at 70°C extended a period of zero mould growth on sedge to 18 weeks under moist conditions.

Conclusions

Heat curing at 70°C best enhanced antifungal activity of lime oil against A. niger both in medium and on sedge.

Significance and Impact of the Study

Heat curing of lime oil has potential to be used to enhance the antifungal safety of sedge products.  相似文献

Chrysanthemum [Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat. (Asteraceae)] is one of the economically most important greenhouse ornamentals worldwide. A major constraint in chrysanthemum production is adequate pest management, requiring the use of different tactics, such as improving host plant resistance, in the framework of an integrated pest management (IPM) approach. In this study, we investigated cross‐resistance of chrysanthemum to its three major pests: western flower thrips [Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)], celery leafminer [Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) (Diptera: Agromyzidae)], and two‐spotted spider mite [Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae)]. We quantified resistance to each pest by performing greenhouse bioassays with a broad range of chrysanthemum types from commercial germplasm provided by Dutch breeding companies. Considerable variation was detected among the chrysanthemum cultivars in thrips silver damage and growth damage, leafminer damage, measured as number of mines and pupae, and spider mite numbers and damage. We observed significant positive correlations between thrips damage (both silver and growth damage) vs. leafminer numbers (both mines and pupae), and between leafminer numbers (both mines and pupae) vs. spider mite numbers. Our results indicate an overlap in resistance to all three herbivores. The important implications of this result for chrysanthemum breeding are discussed.  相似文献

The effects of inoculum level and lime-pelleting were studied in an acid soil with respect to the nodulation and growth of lucerne (Medicago sativa cv Resis) and the population dynamics of Rhizobium meliloti. In small root-boxes (rhizotrons), the in-situ survival of inoculated rhizobia was studied in the micro-environment around the seed for a period of 12 days after sowing. During the initial 24 hours, a strong increase in rhizobial numbers was measured, concomitantly with the development of roots. As a result of lime-pelleting, rhizobial numbers were higher only at 3 days after sowing (P<0.05). Later, this difference diminished steadily. Addition of lime did not increase the adhesion of the rhizobia to the seedling tap root. Plant responses to inoculation were studied in pots. To obtain optimal nodulation, the soil had to be neutralized around the seed with lime and at least 105 cells of R. meliloti were required. With more than 105 rhizobia per seed, lime-pelleting increased the number of crown-nodulated seedlings from 24% to 77%. Higher numbers of rhizobia could not compensate the effect of lime. A strong correlation was found between crown nodulation, nitrogen content and dry weight of the shoots.  相似文献

Effects of soil pH and calcium on mycorrhizas of Picea abies   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The effects of lime, increased soil pH and increased soil Ca concentration on the mycorrhizas of Norway spruce. [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] were studied independently of each other to elucidate the different mechanisms through which lime may influence mycorrhizas in acidic soil. In a field experiment (mature Norway spruce in podzol), lime was applied as CaCO3; increased Ca concentration without an increase in pH was achieved with CaSO4; and soil pH was increased without calcium by means of Na2CO3 and K2CO3 (Na+K treatment). Treatments were done in October, and mycorrhizas were counted from samples collected in the following June and September. All treatments increased the percentage of dead short root tips compared to controls in September, and Na+K already in June. Cenococcum geophilum Fr. increased in proportion in plots treated with Na+K.In a sand culture experiment, Norway spruce seedlings were grown from seed and inoculated with Cenococcum geophilum, or root inoculum, or left uninoculated. When mycorrhizas were beginning to form, CaCO3 and CaSO4 treatments were applied. Six weeks later, the percent of dead short root tips in both salt treatments was significantly increased from control, but formation of mycorrhizas was not inhibited by treatments. As all the treatments increased the proportion of dead short root tips, it is concluded that lime directly and adversely affected mycorrhizas of Norway spruce in sand culture and in mor humus. Both increased ionic strength and increased pH may be reasons for this rather than Ca2+ specifically.  相似文献

In western United States, both mine reclamations and renewed mining at previously abandoned mines have increased substantially in the last decade. This increased activity may adversely impact bats that use these mines for roosting. Townsend's big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii) is a species of conservation concern that may be impacted by ongoing mine reclamation and renewed mineral extraction. To help inform wildlife management decisions related to bat use of abandoned mine sites, we used logistic regression, Akaike's information criterion, and multi-model inference to investigate hibernacula use by Townsend's big-eared bats using 9 years of data from surveys inside abandoned mines in southwestern Colorado. Townsend's big-eared bats were found in 38 of 133 mines surveyed (29%), and occupied mines averaged 2.6 individuals per mine. The model explaining the most variability in our data included number of openings and portal temperature at abandoned mines. In southwestern Colorado, we found that abandoned mine sites with more than one opening and portal temperatures near 0°C were more likely to contain hibernating Townsend's big-eared bats. However, mines with only one opening and portal temperatures of ≥10°C were occasionally occupied by Townsend's big-eared bat. Understanding mine use by Townsend's big-eared bat can help guide decisions regarding allocation of resources and placement of bat-compatible closures at mine sites scheduled for reclamation. When feasible we believe that surveys should be conducted inside all abandoned mines in a reclamation project at least once during winter prior to making closure and reclamation recommendations. © 2010 The Wildlife Society.  相似文献

Summary Three pioneer pasture legume species,Trifolium subterraneum, Trifolium glomeratum andOrnithopus compressus, were grown in a sandy soil of pH 5.0. The growth and nodulation of each species was examined in the presence and absence of lime pelleting and with superphosphate and lime-superphosphate fertilizer. In each species tested, plant yield, nodule number and nitrogen recovery as maximal where lime pelleting and lime-super were applied together. Plant calcium indicated that the response to lime was due to changes in soil pH rather than to a calcium response. T. glomeratum was the species most responsive to lime application but its growth was at best only half that ofT. subterraneum andO. compressus, which produced equally under both favourable (pH 5.9) and unfavourable (pH 4.4) conditions created by fertilizer applications.  相似文献

Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) is the primary vector of Candidatus Liberibacter spp. bacteria that cause citrus greening, a disease of worldwide importance. Olfactometry was employed to test responses of D. citri to odours from intact citrus plants (Mexican lime, Citrus aurantifolia, sour orange, Citrus aurantium, Marsh grapefruit, Citrus paradisi and Valencia orange, Citrus sinensis), citrus plants previously infested with D. citri, and odours of conspecifics including nymphs, adult insects of same and opposite sex, and their products (honeydew), both alone and in combination. In contrast to other studies, psyllids of both sexes were attracted to volatiles of undamaged Mexican lime leaves, whereas undamaged grapefruit attracted only females, and leaves of Valencia and sour orange did not attract either sex. All four plant species attracted female psyllids when previously infested, but only Mexican lime and sour orange‐attracted males. Thus, Citrus species appear to vary in the production of both constituitive and induced volatiles that attract adult psyllids. Volatiles emitted by nymphs did not attract either sex, but psyllid honeydew was attractive to males, likely due to female pheromone residues. Males oriented to the odour of females, whereas the reverse was not true, and neither males nor females oriented to same‐sex volatiles. The addition of conspecific cues (adults, nymphs or honeydew) did not increase female attraction to previously infested leaves, but male response was increased by the presence of adults and honeydew, regardless of plant species. Thus, female psyllids appear to orient more strongly to volatiles of plant origin, whereas males respond more strongly to cues emanating from females and conspecific excretions. These results suggest that female psyllids drive the initial colonization of host plants, whereas males orient to females and infested plants. Identification of the specific volatiles involved may permit their use in monitoring and management of this pest.  相似文献

Summary The effect of level of CaCO3, inoculation and lime pelleting on the nodulation, dry matter yield and % N content of common bean plants (Phaseolus vulgaris) grown in five acid soils was investigated in a greenhouse study. The soils represented a range in pH from 3.9 to 5.1, in exchangeable Al from 0.0 to 4 meq/100 gm, in exchangeable Mn from 0.35 to 2.32 me/100 gm, and in %C from 0.69 to 5.60.Nodule weight decreased with increasing %C and for the soil with highest %C (5.60) no nodules were observed. In soils with low organic matter and low exchangeable Al and Mn, inoculation increased nodule weight, dry matter yield and %N especially at the lowest pH level. Where the seeds were not inoculated, nodule weight and dry matter yield increased with soil pH. No such increases were observed where the seeds were inoculated. There was no apparent advantage in lime pelleting in such soils. In soils with low organic matter content and with substantial amounts of Al and/or Mn, liming increased nodule weight and dry matter yield, and decreased exchangeable Al and/or Mn. Lime pelleting was superior to mere inoculation in increasing nodule weight particularly at low lime rates. In soils with relatively high organic matter content, nodulation was very low or none at all. Low lime rates had little effect on exchangeable Al and Ca and dry matter yield. Higher lime rates, however, decreased exchangeable Al and dry matter yield but increased exchangeable Ca.  相似文献

The development and implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices are indispensable as alternatives to pesticide use and to keep populations of soil-borne plant pathogens at levels that do not affect crop productivity. The present research evaluates the incidence of soil-borne phytopathogens on the pineapple variety MD-2, which was subjected to different treatments: Incorporation of Crotalaria juncea into the soil (organic amendment), application of dolomitic lime to soil (inorganic amendment), and the use of plastic mulch covering the soil. During the crop cycle (15 months), the following variables were evaluated: plant height (cm), fruit weight (kg·plant−1 ), crop yield (ton·ha−1 ), the bud root disease incidence caused by Phytophthora nicotianae, number of soil phytoparasitic nematodes and colony-forming-units (CFUs) of soil fungi and oomycetes. The results indicate that Crotalaria juncea treatment reduced the pathogen population (nematode and oomycetes) at levels that did not affect crop development, so that yield increased (18–20%). The incorporation of C. juncea into the soil as an organic amendment favors the populations of fungi disease suppressors (Trichoderma-Aspergillus). The phytoparasitic nematodes (Meloidogyne sp., Pratylenchus sp., and Mesocriconema sp.) and oomycetes (Phytophthora spp., and Pythium spp.) showed a reduction of their population levels by effects of organic amendment (C. juncea). The plastic mulch was also effective, probably due to the maintenance of optimal condition to crop growth and weed control. However, the dolomitic lime application had the poorest effect under the conditions of the study area on the variables analyzed. The described observations are characteristics of a system-based approach for the potential management of soil-borne pathogens of pineapple MD-2 in Veracruz, México.  相似文献

In order to understand the community structure of diazotrophs in red soil and effects of organic manure Application on the structure, four nifH gene libraries were constructed: the control (CK), low manure (LM), High manure (HM), and high manure adding lime (ML). Totally 150 nifH gene clones were screened and grouped into 21 clusters by RFLP analysis. Existence of dominant patterns was observed in all libraries, which counted for over 96% of clones in library HM and about 56∼72% in other three libraries. The nifH sequences of the dominant patterns in all libraries were most similar to sequences of the cyanobacteria. nifH genes showed high diversity in red soil, dispersing throughout the nifH clades (alpha-, beta-, and gamma-Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, cyanobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, and posited group). Bradyrhizobium and Burkholderia were also important diaxotrophs in low fertility soil samples. Low manure treatment increased the Diversity of nifH genes compared with CK and high manure treatments. Manure and lime treatment led to obvious community succession. Total N to available P ratio, total carbon, and K concentrations were the main factors affecting the diversity of diazotrophs in red soil.  相似文献

Application of lime (4000 kg ha-1) to a soil used for commercial carrot production (pH 6.9) significantly (p<0.05) reduced the incidence of cavity spot disease of carrots compared to unlimed soil (pH 5.1). It significantly (p<0.01) increased soil microbial activity as measured by the hydrolysis of fluorescein diacetate and arginine ammonification. The application of lime resulted in a significant (p<0.01) increase in the total numbers of colony forming units (efu) of aerobic bacteria, fluorescent pseudomonads, Gram negative bacteria, actinomycetes and a significant (p<0.01) decrease in the cfu of filamentous fungi and yeasts compared to unlimed soil. Liming also increased the cfu of non-streptomycete actinomycetes rarely reported in similar studies. These non-streptomycete actinomycetes were estimated and isolated using polyvalent Streptomyces phages and the dry heat technique to reduce the dominance of streptomycetes on isolation plates. The non-streptomycete actinomycetes isolated included species of Actinoplanes, Micromonospora, Streptoverticillium, Nocardia, Rhodococcus, Microbispora, Actinomadura, Dactylosporangium and Streptosporangium. The numbers of actinomycetes antagonistic to Pythium coloratum, a causal agent of cavity spot disease of carrots increased in soil amended with lime. Application of lime also reduced the isolation frequency of P. coloratum from asymptomatic carrot roots grown in soil artificially infested with the pathogen, 3, 4 and 5 weeks after sowing.  相似文献

Plasma membrane-enriched preparations from fibrous roots of three citrus genotypes differing in their abilities for chloride exclusion, and grown in the presence of 0,50 or 100 mM NaCl for 4 weeks, were analysed for phospholipid and free sterol content and vanadate-sensitive adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activity over a range of temperatures. The best chloride excluder, Rangpur lime (Citrus reticulaia Blanco var. austera hyb.?), had significantly higher maximal ATPase activity than both the moderate chloride excluder. Kharna khatta (Citrus kharna Raf.), and the worst chloride excluder, Etrog citron (Citrus medico L.), at all assay temperatures below 28°C. Salt treatment had no effect on maximal ATPase activity of either Rangpur lime or Etrog citron but resulted in increased activity of the enzyme in Kharna khatta at temperatures below 28°C. Arrhenius plots of ATPase activity from the three citrus genotypes showed that, in controls, the activation energy (E.,) of Rangpur lime ATPase was significantly lower than that of both Kharna khatta and Etrog citron. The thermotropic phase transition temperature (Tf) for Rangpur lime (27°C) was also lower than for the other citrus genotypes (31°C). Salt treatment resulted in increases in both Ea and T, for Rangpur lime, decreases in both parameters for Kharna khatta and no change of either parameter for Etrog citron. An inverse relationship between Ea and the phospholipid to free sterol ratio was evident for plasma membrane preparations from all three citrus genotypes in the presence and absence of salt treatment suggesting that changes in membrane fluidity, particularly those induced by free sterols, have the potential to influence active as well as passive ion transport processes and thus may play a significant role in the chloride exclusion mechanism.  相似文献

Induced resistance of cultivated Gossypium to its exotic, agricultural pests is well studied but little is known about whether native cottons respond to damage by endemic herbivore populations. This study examined induced responses of Gossypium australe to its most abundant folivore, Bucculatrix gossypii. Prior damage did not affect the number of new mines initiated. Survival of miners on damaged, young leaves and cotyledons was reduced compared with survival on young leaves and cotyledons of undamaged plants. However, the induced resistance was not systemic; survival of miners on older, undamaged leaves of damaged seedlings was not different from survival on older leaves of undamaged controls. This localized induced resistance did not produce an overdispersed distribution of either mines or successful mines. On the contrary, the distributions tended towards clumped, although they were not statistically distinguishable from random. Although a localized induced response affected miner survival, no effects on behaviour were observed.  相似文献

The detection of the lime leafminer Phyllonorycter issikii in Novosibirsk in 2008–2009 is reported. Mines of this pest have been found on the small-leaved lime Tilia cordata and the Siberian lime T. sibirica, but not on the Amur lime T. amurensis (common host plant of moth). Leaves of T. cordata carried 2–3 times more mines than T. sibirica. On both host plants, the parasitism of mature larvae and pupae did not exceed 7%. Lack of control by local parasitoids can give the pest an opportunity to increase population density and spread further in Western Siberia.  相似文献
