The influence of light quality on growth and development of in vitro grown Doritaenopsis hort. (Orchidaceae) plants was investigated. Growth parameters like leaf and root fresh/dry mass and leaf area were highest with plants grown under red plus blue light emitting diodes (LEDs). Leaf length was greater with the plants grown under red LED. Carbohydrate (starch, sucrose, glucose and fructose) and leaf pigment (chlorophylls and carotenoids) biosynthesis of the plants was significantly increased in plants grown under red plus blue LEDs compared to red or blue LED and fluorescent light treatments. This study suggests that the production of quality Doritaenopsis plants is possible by culturing the plants in vitro under a mixture of blue plus red light sources.  相似文献

Visual traps like yellow sticky card traps are used for monitoring and control of the greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum). However, reflected intensity (brightness) and hence, attractiveness depend on the ambient light conditions, and the colour (wavelength) might not fit with the sensitivity of whitefly photoreceptors. The use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) is a promising approach to increase the attractiveness, specificity and adaptability of visual traps. We constructed LED‐based visual traps equipped with blue and green high‐power LEDs and ultraviolet (UV) standard LEDs according to the putative spectral sensitivities of the insects' photoreceptors. In a series of small‐scale choice and no‐choice recapture experiments, the factors time of day as well as light intensity and light quality (colour) of LED traps were studied in terms of attractiveness compared to yellow traps without LEDs. Green LED traps (517 nm peak wavelength) were comparably attractive in no‐choice experiments but clearly preferred over yellow traps in all choice experiments. The time of day had a clear effect on the flight activity of the whiteflies and thereby on the trapping success. Blue LEDs (474 nm) suppressed the attractiveness of the light traps when combined with green LEDs suggesting that a yet undetected photoreceptor, sensitive for blue light, and an inhibiting interaction with the green receptor, might exist in T. vaporariorum. In choice experiments between LED traps emitting green light only or in combination with UV (368 nm), the green‐UV combination was preferred. In no‐choice night‐time experiments, UV LEDs considerably increased whitefly flight activity and efficacy of trapping. Most likely, the reason for the modifying effect of UV is the stimulating influence on flight activity. In conclusion, it seems that the use of green LEDs alone or in combination with UV LEDs could be an innovative option for improving attractiveness of visual traps.  相似文献

As the vector of the global disease of citrus greening or huanglongbing, Asian citrus pysllids, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae), are the greatest threat to the worldwide citrus industry. Critical to management of D. citri and huanglongbing is optimization of surveillance methodologies. Although phytophagous insects may find host plants by multimodal cues, some appear to primarily use visual cues. In this study, we examined the behavior of Asian citrus psyllids toward light from light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) in the insect visible spectrum. The periodicity of attraction of psyllids to visual cues was evaluated in the field (yellow sticky traps) and laboratory (multi‐colored LEDs) with a strong peak of activity during the afternoon in both the field and the laboratory (both 14:00 to 18:00 hours). In laboratory evaluations of psyllids to differently colored LEDs, strongest attraction was to LEDs emitting ultraviolet (390 nm), green (525 nm), and yellow (590 nm) light. Male and female psyllids did not differ significantly in their responses to visual cues. These findings provide the basis for formulating better traps that reflect UV and yellow light and potentially incorporate UV LEDs for monitoring psyllids and a better understanding of Asian citrus psyllid visual behavior.  相似文献

Halide perovskite materials have achieved overwhelming success in various optoelectronic applications, especially perovskite solar cells and perovskite‐based light‐emitting diodes (P‐LEDs), owing to their outstanding optical and electric properties. It is widely believed that flat and mirror‐like perovskite films are imperative for achieving high device performance, while the potential of other perovskite morphologies, such as the emerging textured perovskite, is overlooked, which leaves plenty of room for further breakthroughs. Compared to flat and mirror‐like perovskites, textured perovskites with unique structures, e.g., coral‐like, maze‐like, column‐like or quasi‐core@shell assemblies, are more efficient at light harvesting and charge extraction, thus revolutionizing the pathways toward ultrahigh performance in perovskite‐based optoelectronic devices. Employing a textured perovskite morphology, the record of external quantum efficiency for P‐LEDs is demonstrated as 21.6%. In this research news, recent progress in the utilization of textured perovskite is summarized, with the emphasis on the preparation strategies and prominent optoelectronic properties. The impact of the textured morphology on light harvesting, carrier dynamic management, and device performance is highlighted. Finally, the challenges and great potential of employing these innovative morphologies in fabricating more efficient optoelectronic devices, or creating a new energy harvesting and conversion regime are also provided.  相似文献

New developments in fluorophores as well as in detection methods have fueled the rapid growth of optical imaging in the life sciences. Commercial widefield microscopes generally use arc lamps, excitation/emission filters and shutters for fluorescence imaging. These components can be expensive, difficult to maintain and preclude stable illumination. Here, we describe methods to construct inexpensive and easy-to-use light sources for optical microscopy using light-emitting diodes (LEDs). We also provide examples of its applicability to biological fluorescence imaging.  相似文献

Stable photoluminescence QD light‐emitting diodes (QD‐LEDs) were made based on hydrophilic CdTe quantum dots (QDs). A quantum dot‐inorganic nanocomposite (hydrophilic CdTe QDs incorporating dehydrated silica gel) was prepared by two methods (rotary evaporation and freeze drying). Taking advantage of its viscosity, plasticity and transparency, dehydrated silica gel could be coated on the surface of ultraviolet (UV) light LEDs to make photoluminescence QD‐LEDs. This new photoluminescence QD‐LED, which is stable, environmentally non‐toxic, easy to operate and low cost, could expand the applications of hydrophilic CdTe QDs in photoluminescence. Mounting of the transducers in measurement of segmental motion of the spine   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A seated female subject was subjected to sinusoidal whole body vibration at 2, 4, 5 and 6 Hz. Accelerations were measured by accelerometers on pins screwed into the spinous process. The pins were also fitted with light emitting diodes (LED). The displacement of these LEDs were compared to LEDs attached directly to the skin. Substantial differences in measured displacements were noted between surface mounted LEDs and those mounted on pins rigidly attached to the skeleton. These differences were more marked further out from the center line.  相似文献

In the current work we demonstrate the relevance of monochromatic light conditions in moss plant cell culture. Light intensity and illumination wavelength are important cultivation parameters due to their impact on growth and chlorophyll formation kinetics of the moss Physcomitrella patens. This moss was chosen as a model organism due to its capability to produce complex recombinant pharmaceutical proteins. Filamentous moss cells were cultivated in mineral medium in shaking flasks. The flasks were illuminated by light emitting diodes (LED) providing nearly monochromatic red and blue light as well as white light as a reference. A maximum growth rate of 0.78 day((1) was achieved under additional CO(2) aeration and no growth inhibition was observed under high light illumination. The application of dual red and blue light is the most effective way to reach high growth and chlorophyll formation rates while minimizing energy consumption of the LEDs. These observations are discussed as effects of photo sensory pigments in the moss. The combination of monochromatic red and blue light should be considered when a large scale process is set up.  相似文献

A triboelectric generator based on checker‐like interdigital electrodes (TEGC) with a sandwiched polyethylene terephthalate (PET) thin film that can convert translation kinetic energy in all directions to electricity is reported. The design of the sandwiched PET thin film can effectively avoid direct wear between metal electrodes and sliding panel. The mechanism of the TEGC is described in detail. The performance of the TEGC in different sliding directions is studied, indicating a maximum output power density of 1.9 W m‐2 and open‐circuit voltage of 210 V achieved in the X or Y sliding direction. The TEGC is used to charge a 110 μF commercial capacitor to 5 V in 35 s and light up two light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) connected with the capacitor simultaneously. The TEGC based mouse pad and sliding panel are fabricated to harvest mouse operation energy to light up LEDs connected in antiparallel when the computer mouse operates a game. The TEGC has advantages of being flexible, light weight, durable, cost effective, and portable by folding or rolling into a small part. This work presents a significant progress toward the structure design of triboelectric generator for its practical applications.  相似文献

Fluorescence clamp (FC) is a method of directly measuring the fluxes out of Photosystem II antenna. This is achieved by a feed-back loop which controls the light intensity of light emitting diodes in order to keep the amplitude of modulated chlorophyll fluorescence constant, and by taking the intensity or the current fed into the light emitting diodes as a measure of the fluxes. Saturating flashes serve to distinguish between fluxes into thermal deactivation and into the photosynthetic electron transfer chain (ETC). As FC is only active in the light period of the measuring light, the background signal (induced by actinic light) is compensated by a second feed-back loop in the dark period of the measuring light. Equations are provided for the interpretation of the FC signals. This includes the quenching parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence, the flux into the electron transfer chain and the redox state of QA. Experiments are presented which show that traditional fluorescence (LC) and FC measurements yield the same results. However, the FC method provides a better presentation of fluxes as the scaling factor (flux/signal) is constant for all states of Photosystem II. This leads to a simpler analysis of quenching mechanisms. Examples are given which show that the co-existing quenching mechanisms with different effects on photochemical and non-photochemical fluxes can be better identified by FC rather than by LC. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The spectral sensitivity of the fish and the suitable light wavelength range for survival and growth performance of juvenile Pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) were investigated. The spectral sensitivity peak of PBT under photopic condition was observed between 449 and 503 nm, which corresponded to their natural habitat. The fish were reared in tanks irradiated continuously with 4 kinds of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The maximum wavelength of LEDs used for the rearing experiment were 460 nm (blue), 520 nm (green), 630 nm (red), and 450–680 nm (white). There was no notable difference in survival rate among fish in the four LED groups. However, the growth of juvenile PBT was lesser under red light compared to the green and white light wavelengths. These results suggest that PBT juveniles have low sensitivity to red light because the fish are rarely exposed to the red light wavelengths under natural ocean conditions. Thus, low sensitivity to red light negatively influenced the feeding behavior and growth of PBT juveniles.  相似文献

High quality white light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) employ multi‐component phosphor mixtures to generate light of a high color rendering index (CRI). The number of distinct components in a typical phosphor mix usually ranges from two to four. Here we describe a systematic experimental technique for starting with phosphors of known chromatic properties and arriving at their respective proportions for creating a blended phosphor to produce light of the desired chromaticity. This method is applicable to both LED pumped and laser diode (LD) pumped white light sources. In this approach, the radiometric power in the down‐converted luminescence of each phosphor is determined and that information is used to estimate the CIE chromaticity coordinate of light generated from the mixed phosphor. A suitable method for mixing multi‐component phosphors is also described. This paper also examines the effect of light scattering particles in phosphors and their use for altering the spectral characteristics of LD‐ and LED‐generated light. This is the only approach available for making high efficiency phosphor‐converted single‐color LEDs that emit light of wide spectral width.  相似文献

White light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) are rapidly replacing conventional outdoor lighting technologies around the world. Despite rising concerns over their impact on the environment and human health, the flexibility of LEDs has been advocated as a means of mitigating the ecological impacts of globally widespread outdoor night‐time lighting through spectral manipulation, dimming and switching lights off during periods of low demand. We conducted a three‐year field experiment in which each of these lighting strategies was simulated in a previously artificial light naïve grassland ecosystem. White LEDs both increased the total abundance and changed the assemblage composition of adult spiders and beetles. Dimming LEDs by 50% or manipulating their spectra to reduce ecologically damaging wavelengths partially reduced the number of commoner species affected from seven to four. A combination of dimming by 50% and switching lights off between midnight and 04:00 am showed the most promise for reducing the ecological costs of LEDs, but the abundances of two otherwise common species were still affected. The environmental consequences of using alternative lighting technologies are increasingly well established. These results suggest that while management strategies using LEDs can be an effective means of reducing the number of taxa affected, averting the ecological impacts of night‐time lighting may ultimately require avoiding its use altogether.  相似文献

Background

Although specific light attributes, such as color and fluence rate, influence plant growth and development, researchers generally cannot control the fine spectral conditions of artificial plant-growth environments. Plant growth chambers are typically outfitted with fluorescent and/or incandescent fixtures that provide a general spectrum that is accommodating to the human eye and not necessarily supportive to plant development. Many studies over the last several decades, primarily in Arabidopsis thaliana, have clearly shown that variation in light quantity, quality and photoperiod can be manipulated to affect growth and control developmental transitions. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) has been used for decades to test plant responses to narrow-bandwidth light. LEDs are particularly well suited for plant growth chambers, as they have an extraordinary life (about 100,000 hours), require little maintenance, and use negligible energy. These factors render LED-based light strategies particularly appropriate for space-biology as well as terrestrial applications. However, there is a need for a versatile and inexpensive LED array platform where individual wavebands can be specifically tuned to produce a series of light combinations consisting of various quantities and qualities of individual wavelengths. Two plans are presented in this report.  相似文献

Abstract An instrument for the generation and measurement of modulated chlorophyll fluorescence signals from leaves exposed to continuous, highintensity white light is described. Modulated fluorescence is generated in the leaf by pulsed diodes emitting low-intensity yellow radiation and is detected with a photodiode whose output is fed to an amplifier locked in to the frequency of the lightemitting diodes. Comparisons are made between the modulated fluorescence signals measured with this instrument and the continuous fluorescence signals emitted from dark-adapted leaf tissue and isolated thylakoids when photosynthetic activity is induced by exposure to a range of intensities of continuous broad-band, blue-green light. The modulated fluorescence signals were similar to the continuous fluorescence signals, but they were not always identical. The small differences between the two signals are mainly attributable to differences in the populations of chloroplasts being monitored in the two measurements as a result of differential penetration of the modulated and actinic light sources into the sample.  相似文献

The Indian meal moth (IMM), Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), engages in long-distance or foraging flights in the twilight hours of the scotophase when blue light dominates the irradiance spectrum of the sky. We tested the hypothesis that IMM uses wavelengths of visible blue/violet light as orientation cues that trigger phototactic responses. In four-choice laboratory experiments, blue light (400–475 nm) was significantly more effective than green (475–600 nm), orange (575–700 nm), or red (590–800 nm) light in attracting males and mated females. In subsequent experiments that tested light emitting diodes (LEDs) emitting peak wavelengths in the blue/violet-light range, the 405-nm 'violet' LED was significantly more effective than the 435-, 450-, or 470-nm 'blue' LED in attracting males as well as virgin and mated females. In electroretinogram recordings, the 405-nm wavelength elicited significantly stronger receptor potentials from female and male eyes than the 350-nm (UV) wavelength, and in a behavioral experiment it significantly enhanced the known attractiveness of UV light. Equal attraction of IMMs to 405-nm LEDs at 600–700 µW/cm2 with or without UV light, and significantly stronger attraction to a 405-nm LED than to a 350-nm LED at maximum light intensities, suggest that the deployment of violet instead of UV light could become one of several management tactics for control of IMMs.  相似文献

The present study was to determine the factors that can reduce hyperhydricity in in vitro-propagated carnation genotypes. The carnation genotypes (Green Beauty, Purple Beauty, and Inca Magic) were grown in vitro under normal and hyperhydric conditions in white fluorescent light (FL) in which half of the hyperhydric plants were grown in red and blue LEDs (light emitting diodes). It was observed that hyperhydricity leads to oxidative stress in terms of TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) content, whereas stress was alleviated by R (red) and B (blue) LEDs. The multiprotein complex proteins such as ATPase (RCI?+?LHC1) PSII-core dimer, PSII-monomer/ATPs synthase, and PSII-monomer/cyt b6f had decreased levels in hyperhydric conditions grown in white FL; however, the expression level of these photosynthetic proteins was retained in hyperhydric plants grown in R and B LEDs. Moreover, the immunoblots of two photosynthetic proteins (PsaA and PsbA) and stress-responsive proteins such as superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, and catalase showed recovery of hyperhydricity in carnation genotypes grown in R and B LEDs. Our present study signifies that red (R) and blue light (B) LEDs reduced the hyperhydricity to control levels by maintaining the composition of thylakoid proteins and antioxidative defense mechanisms in carnation genotypes.  相似文献
