A total of 48 strains of the soil bacterium Rhizobium japonicum were screened for their response to several widely used antibiotics. Over 60% of the strains were resistant to chloramphenicol, polymyxin B, and erythromycin, and 47% or more of the strains were resistant to neomycin and penicillin G, when tested by disk assay procedures. The most common grouping of resistances in strains was simultaneous resistance to tetracycline, penicillin G, neomycin, chloramphenicol, and streptomycin (25% of all strains tested). The occurrence of multiple drug resistance in a soil bacterium that is not a vertebrate pathogen suggests that chemotherapeutic use of antibiotics is not required for the development of multiple drug resistance.  相似文献

Nine antibiotic producer strains of Erwinia herbicola (=Pantoea agglomerans), belonging to different groups, strongly inhibited growth of 21 streptomycin sensitive strains and 6 streptomycin resistant strains of E. amylovora. The antibacterial spectra of antibiotics produced by the tested strains of E. herbicola were mainly limited to E. amylovora and related tested species. The tested strains of E. amylovora that are resistant to streptomycin did not show cross-resistance to the different types of antibiotics produced by the tested strains of E. herbicola. The antibiotics produced by the different tested strains of E. herbicola did not exert any activity on tested fungi with the exception that strains Eh 153 and Eh 351 slightly inhibited the growth of Verticillium dahliae.  相似文献

Relatively low concentrations of streptomycin inhibited thegrowth of Anacystis nidulans and Anabaena variabilis. The productionof chlorophyll, carotenoid, and phycocyanin pigments in thesealgae was significantly but reversibly inhibited by streptomycin.Strains of Anacystis nidulans that are resistant to streptomycinand penicillin were produced by serially subculturing the algain gradually increasing concentrations of the respective antibiotic.These strains seem stable. Evidence which suggests that theresistant strains originate primarily by mutation is presented.  相似文献

Mutants resistant to different antibiotics (streptomycin, tetracycline, ampicillin and penicillin) were obtained from several strains of Xanthomonas campestris and evaluated for xanthan production. Most of the mutants showed alterations in their polysaccharide production, either increasing, decreasing or totally losing their polymer-production capacity. The existence of two types of antibiotic-resistance mechanisms for the assayed drugs is suggested: one that affects xanthan production and another that does not. Differences in outer-membrane protein patterns of mutants that were simultaneously altered in antibiotic resistance and xanthan production were found, in comparison with their parental strains. These findings suggest the existence of a genetic relationship between antibiotic-resistance mechanisms and xanthan production. Some of the mutants obtained showed significant increases in broth viscosity and xanthan concentration. These results suggest that resistance to streptomycin and ampicillin can be used to obtain improved strains in plate screening assays. Sensitivity to 9 antibiotics of 1040 strains of Proteus belonging to the serological groups 03, 05, 06, 07, 010, 011, 013, 023, 024, 026, 027, 028 and 030 was studied. It was found that the above strains were sensitive and highly sensitive to the aminoglycosides and streptomycin, slightly sensitive to levomycetin and resistant to tetracyclines, erythromycin and penicillin. All the strains were polyresistant and 99.6 per cent of them were resistant to 4--9 antibiotics. Ten types of resistance were found. Proteus strains with the resistance type PETOtCht were most common. No relation between the occurrence of the strains of various serological groups and the character and level of their resistance to the antibiotics was found.  相似文献

Eight single-strain lactic streptococci, three commercial cheese starters, and six lactic acid bacteria isolated from yoghurt were examined for their susceptibility to penicillin, cloxacillin, tetracycline-hydrochloride and streptomycin. The ranges of the antibiotics causing 50% inhibition of the bacteria were (mug/ml): penicillin, 0.009 to 0.20; cloxacillin, 0.24 to 2.50; tetracycline, 0.09 to 0.60; and streptomycin, 0.35 to 13.0. The average concentrations required to cause 50 and 100% inhibition of the cheese starters were (mug/ml): penicillin, 0.12 and 0.26; cloxacillin, 1.91 and 3.9; tetracycline-hydrochloride, 0.13 and 0.36; and streptomycin, 0.59 and 2.06. All the cocci were about equally susceptible to tetracycline, and all organisms were more resistant to cloxacillin than penicillin. The yoghurt isolates were more resistant to streptomycin and more susceptible to penicillin than the cheese starters. The 2, 3, 5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride test, using Streptococcus thermophilus BC as assay organism, does not detect low levels of streptomycin in milk. However, it is useful in detecting cloxacillin residues.  相似文献

A survey of the occurrence of strains of Erwinia amylovora resistant to streptomycin in certain Egyptian pear orchards was earned out during April and May 1988. Twenty-two isolates out of 604 isolates collected from 11 orchards showed resistance to streptomycin. All the streptomycin resistant (Strr) strains isolated in the present work were resistant to high levels of streptomycin with minimal inhibitory concentrations ranging from 1000 to 3000 μg/ml. The occurrence of Strr strains in Egypt is still limited and the population of resistant strains was at relatively low level. However, such occurrence of E. amylovora with resistance to streptomycin is a potentially serious situation.  相似文献

The comparative analysis of 133 S. typhi clinical strains isolated from patients and carriers in Dnepropetrovsk Province in 1978-1987 was carried out. As shown by this analysis, 10 Vi phage types were represented in the set of strains under study, phage types A and F1 being the most numerous ones. Phage type F1 occurred less frequently among the strains isolated from carriers. 31.1% of the strains were found to contain plasmids with different molecular weight ranging from 96 to 0.5 MD. The occurrence of plasmid-containing strains remained at the same level during the whole period under study. Low-molecular plasmids occurred more frequently in the strains isolated from carriers. The minimal suppressive concentrations of a number of antibiotics, such as penicillin, ampicillin, monomycin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, rifampicin and streptomycin, were determined. 7% of the strains were resistant to penicillin, 9% to monomycin, 15%--to tetracycline and 2.6% to chloramphenicol. The correlation between penicillin and monomycin resistance of the strains and the presence of the plasmid with a molecular weight of 60 MD in these strains was established. All strains were shown to be highly variable in the degree of their virulence: from 10(2) to 10(8). The strains isolated from patients possessed greater virulence.  相似文献

Despite low virulence of enterococci, they have become important nosocomial pathogens. This has been correlated with the increased use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, particularly cephalosporins. Many strains of enterococci exhibit multiple drug resistance; the most important being high-level resistance (HLR) to penicillin (MIC > 100 mg/l) and gentamicin (MIC > 500 mg/l and 2000 mg/l) and/or streptomycin (MIC > 2000 mg/l). The investigation was performed on 92 strains, isolated from genito-urinary tract and recognised as Enterococcus sp. All strains were obtained from several microbiological laboratories of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Tczew. On biochemical reaction profiles species of enterococci were identified as: E. faecalis (72.8%), E. faecalis varians (9.8%), E. durans (7.6%) and E. faecium (9.8%). The minimal inhibitory concentration (MICs) of penicillin, ampicillin, azlocillin, imipenem, gentamicin, amicacin, ciprofioxacin and vancomycin were determined by the agar dilution method. None of these 92 enterococcal strains was vancomycin resistant. 22.2% of E. faecium and 7.5% of E. faecalis showed high-level resistance to penicillin. None of these strains were produced beta-lactamase. High-level resistance to streptomycin and gentamicin was detected. Both--high-level resistance to streptomycin and gentamicin--were found in 6% E. faecalis; 11.1% E. faecalis varians and 22.2% E. faecium.  相似文献

Bacteria-free cultures of the prasinophyte Micromonas pusilla (Butcher) Monton and Parke, UTEX LB 991, were produced by intially determining the effects of several antibiotics on the growth of this alga and then using a combination of these antibiotics to eliminate associated bacteria, Micrononas pusilla was resistant ot penicillin G, neomycin, gentamicin and streptomycin at bactericidal concentrations but sensitive to chloramphenicol and polymixin B. Passage of M. pusilla through the sequence of antibioties penicillin G → neomycin → gentamician → kanamycin resulted in an axenic culture of M, pusilla this method should be suitable for producing axenic culture of other strains of M. pusilla.  相似文献

Summary The resistance of 8 strains of Bacillus sphaericus and of 2 strains of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (B.t.i.) to various antibiotics and antibiotic combinations were tested. All B. sphaericus strains were resistant to streptomycin, lincomycin and bacitracin, and six strains were resistant to combinations of these antibiotics. This antibiotic resistance could be utilised to establish selective media to identify and follow the fate of B. sphaericus and of B.t.i. in the field.  相似文献

Summary The occurrence and antibiotic resistance of Escherichia coli in tropical seafood was studied. A 3-tube MPN method was used for determining the level of faecal contamination of fresh and processed seafood. Of the 188 samples tested which included finfish, shellfish, water and ice, 155 were positive for the presence of faecal coliforms following incubation at 44.5 °C. However, E. coli was isolated from only 47% of the samples positive for faecal coliforms. The antibiotic resistance of 116 strains isolated from seafood was tested using 14 different antibiotics including ampicillin, cephalothin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, gentamycin, nalidixic acid, streptomycin and vancomycin. Seven strains were resistant to more than five antibiotics of which one was resistant to eight antibiotics. The multiple drug resistant strains harboured plasmids of varying sizes. Antibiotic susceptibility studies revealed that seafood from India contains multiple antibiotic resistant strains of E. coli which may serve as a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes in the aquatic environment. All the strains used in this study did not harbour any virulence genes commonly associated with pathogenic E. coli, when tested by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).  相似文献

After discontinuation of the use of antibiotics for sanation of the carriers of pathogenic staphylococci among the staff of a maternity unit, the number of the strains resistant to penicillin, streptomycin, chlortetracycline, tetracycline, levomycetin, erythromycin, monomycin and neomycin decreased 1.3, 2.9, 10,4.3,5.5,1.5,3.9 and 2.4 times respectively. The differences were statistically reliable. The causes of the antibiotic resistance decrease require further investigation.  相似文献

AIMS: The objective of the present study was to determine the resistance patterns of non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) strains isolated from different sources in Switzerland during the period 1997-99 as an epidemiological marker. METHODS AND RESULTS: The disk diffusion method was used to test 82 non-O157 STEC strains for susceptibility to 13 antibiotics. Ten strains were resistant to one and 20 strains to two and more antibiotics. The most frequent resistance types were streptomycin (14 strains), cephalothin (14 strains), sulfamethoxazole (14 strains) and tetracycline (14 strains). Three O100:H- STEC strains isolated from healthy slaughter pigs were resistant to eight antibiotics: streptomycin, sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim, tetracycline, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, neomycin and gentamicin. CONCLUSION: Periodic surveillance of the antibiotic susceptibilities would be an important measure in detecting emergence and spread of resistance. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Antibiotic susceptibility testing can be a useful tool for typing strains and should be used in combination with other phenotypic and genotypic methods.  相似文献

Summary Griseofulvin, streptomycin, aureomycin, and actidione, with and without nutrients, were tested againstPythium ultimum Trow (two strains),P. irregulare Buis., andP. rostratum Butler. Streptomycin was tolerated in the highest concentration, and actidione and aureomycin in the lowest.P. rostratum, a saprophytic species, was more resistant to the antibiotics than the pathogenic species, which were inhibited at low concentrations. The two strains ofP. ultimum behaved differently, the oogonial strain being more tolerant than the sporangial strain. Yeast extract was usually superior to sucrose or asparagine in counteracting the toxicity of antibiotics.Germination of sporangia ofPythium irregulare was studiedin vitro and in a natural soil in the presence of antibiotic and antibiotic-nutrient solutions. Very meager germination of sporangia occurred in soil amended with antibiotics. Actidione severely restricted germination in soil. Nutrients nullified the toxicity to varying degrees. Usually higher germination of sporangia occurredin vitro than in soil. Sub-lethal concentrations of antibiotics induced morphological abnormalities in germ tubes. Aureomycin caused a dendroid type of branching; actidione caused distortion, vacuolation, and vesiculation; griseofulvin caused lysis and septation; and streptomycin caused distortion.Germ tubes were lysed in a natural soil and in soils amended with antibiotics, but nutrients, in general, prevented early lysis at low concentrations of antibiotics. No resistant bodies were formed prior to the initiation of lysis of germ tubes.  相似文献

The strains of El Tor Vibrio cholerae were exposed to different concentrations of pesticides (fazolone, treflane, prometrine, magnesium chlorate, omait and gardon) and mineral fertilizers (superphosphate, ammophos and carbamide) for 2 to 135 days. The subcultures of various ages were tested for their sensitivity to 16 antibiotics. The whole of 229 cultures were tested. There was a general tendency to lowering of the El Tor vibrio sensitivity to the majority of the antibiotics tested. The vibrio strains resistant to the antibiotics widely used in medical practice i. e. levomycetin, streptomycin, tetracycline, lincomycin, neomycin and kanamycin were isolated.  相似文献

Multidrug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis are a serious and continuing human health problem. Such strains may contain as many as four or five different mutations, and M. tuberculosis strains that are resistant to both streptomycin and rifampin contain mutations in the rpsL and rpoB genes, respectively. Coexisting mutations of this kind in Escherichia coli have been shown to interact negatively (S. L. Chakrabarti and L. Gorini, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 72:2084-2087, 1975; S. L. Chakrabarti and L. Gorini, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 74:1157-1161, 1977). We investigated this possibility in Mycobacterium smegmatis by analyzing the frequency and nature of spontaneous mutants that are resistant to either streptomycin or rifampin or to both antibiotics. Mutants resistant to streptomycin were isolated from characterized rifampin-resistant mutants of M. smegmatis under selection either for one or for both antibiotics. Similarly, mutants resistant to rifampin were isolated from streptomycin-resistant strains. The second antibiotic resistance mutation occurred at a lower frequency in both cases. Surprisingly, in both cases a very high rate of reversion of the initial antibiotic resistance allele was detected when single antibiotic selection was used; the majority of strains resistant to only one antibiotic were isolated by this process. Determinations of rates of mutation to antibiotic resistance in M. smegmatis showed that the frequencies were enhanced up to 10(4)-fold during stationary phase. If such behavior is also typical of slow-growing pathogenic mycobacteria, these studies suggest that the generation of multiply drug-resistant strains by successive mutations may be a more complex genetic phenomenon than suspected.  相似文献

Antibiotic resistance in 40 Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates from 110 diabetic patients (36%) was evaluated. Of these, 32 (80%) of the isolates showed multidrug-resistance to more than eight antibiotics and 35% isolates were found to be methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA). All 40 S. aureus strains (100%) screened from diabetic clinical specimens were resistant to penicillin, 63% to ampicillin, 55% to streptomycin, 50% to tetracycline and 50% to gentamicin. Where as low resistance rate was observed to ciprofloxacin (20%) and rifampicin (8%). In contrast, all (100%) S. aureus strains recorded susceptibility to teicoplanin, which was followed by vancomycin (95%). Genotypical examination revealed that 80% of the aminoglycoside resistant S. aureus (ARSA) have aminoglycoside modifying enzyme (AME) coding genes; however, 20% of ARSA which showed non-AME mediated (adaptive) aminoglycoside resistance lacked these genes in their genome. In contrast all MRSA isolates possessed mecA, femA genetic determinants in their genome.

蚯蚓可摄食污泥中的有机物,其肠道微生物群落在其分解过程中起着主要的作用。利用赤子爱胜蚓(Eisenia foetida)和人工湿地基质构建蚯蚓-污泥系统,添加氯霉素、四环素、链霉素和青霉素4种抗生素,研究不同抗生素对污泥和蚓粪的细菌群落结构的影响。采用高通量测序技术比较分析污泥和蚓粪的细菌多样性及群落结构变化。结果表明,外加抗生素能够导致污泥的Chao1和ACE指数降低,同时降低拟杆菌门和变形菌门的相对丰度,加入氯霉素和青霉素会增加厚壁菌门的相对丰度,降低酸杆菌门、放线菌门和绿弯菌门的相对丰度,加入四环素和链霉素则与之相反。蚓粪样品中,添加氯霉素和链霉素导致Chao1和ACE指数降低,而添加四环素和青霉素则导致Chao1和ACE指数升高,外加抗生素可降低拟杆菌门的相对丰度,增加放线菌门、变形菌门和疣微菌门的相对丰度。主成分分析(PCA)和聚类分析表明,氯霉素和青霉素对污泥细菌群落影响作用相似,四环素与链霉素效果类似;氯霉素对蚓粪群落结构的影响小于其他抗生素。研究结果显示,抗生素可影响污泥和蚓粪的细菌多样性及群落结构,不同抗生素对污泥和蚓粪的影响程度存在差异。  相似文献
