A flowable concentrate of Bacillus sphaericus (Neide) strain 2362 was applied against Anopheles gambiae Giles s.l. mosquito larve in small plot field trials in Bobo-Dioulasso area. Burkina-Faso. Third and fourth instar larvae were controlled for 10-15 days with a dosage of 10 g/m2, 3-10 days with 1 or 0.1 mg/m2, and 2 days with 0.01 g/m2. Complete elimination of larval populations required 1 x 10(2) to 2 x 10(3) viable spores/ml in the larval feeding zone. After treatment, the total numbers of viable spores decreased in the ponds, due to ingestion of spores by non-target as well as target organisms and/or loss of viability of some spores by sunlight. This formulation was less effective against An. gambiae than against Culex quinquefasciatus Say larvae, both in laboratory bioassays and under field conditions.  相似文献

The relaxation rates of the carbon-bound protons and of the three assigned phosphorus resonances of propionyl-CoA were measured in solutions of free propionyl-CoA and of the transcarboxylase-propionyl-CoA complex. In free propionyl-CoA, analysis of the 1/T1 values of 15 protons at 100 and 220 MHz and of 1/T1 and 1/T2 of the three phosphorus atoms at 40.5 MHz indicated free rotation of the propionyl region (taur approximately 3 x 10(-11) sec) but hindered motion of the remainder of the molecule with correlation times of 1-3. 5 x 10(-10) sec, approaching the tumbling time of the entire molecule (taur - 6 x 10(-10) sec. The correlation times of the three phosphorus atoms were indistinguishable from those of their nearest neighbor protons. The effects of three homogeneous enzyme preparations with varying contents of Zn(II), Co(II), and Cu(II) on 1/T1 of 12 protons and 3 phosphorus atoms of prionyl-CoA were analyzed with the help of simultaneous equations to yield the individual contributions at the three metal sites. Only diamagnetic effects were detected on the relaxation rates of the three phosphorus atoms. From the diamagnetic effects it was calculated that the motions of the prionyl side chain and of the terminal pantetheine methylene protons were hindered on the enzyme by an order of magnitude (taur approximately 6 x 10(-10) sec) and that the phosphorus atoms were hindered by two orders of magnitude (taur approximately 1 x 10(-8) sec) over the taur values found in free propionyl-CoA, but that these taur values remained well below that of the entire protein molecule (taur =6 x 10(-7) sec)...  相似文献

Earlier, we had reported purification of three thiol proteinase inhibitors (TPI-1 of 70 kDa, TPI-3 of 195 kDa and TPI-4 of 497 kDa) from human plasma. In the present study we report that TPI-1 binds to papain in the stoichiometry ratio (E/I) of 1:1 while TPI-3 and TPI-4 bind in the ratio of 1.5:1 and 3.2:1 respectively. The K(m) for papain with BAPNA as substrate and Kcat/K(m) values for TPI-1, TPI-3 and TPI-4 were 2.7 x 10(-6) M, 0.84 nM/sec; 3.2 x 10(-6) M, 0.75 nM/sec; and 3.6 x 10(-6) M, 0.72 nM/sec respectively. The Ki values were found to be 1.48 nM for TPI-1, 0.133 nM for TPI-3 and 0.117 nM for TPI-4. The UV absorption and fluorescence emission spectra study suggest involvement of aromatic residues in the binding process. This study suggests that TPI-4 is the most potent inhibitor of thiol proteinases.  相似文献

Dispersal of Septoria nodorum Pycnidiospores by Simulated Rain and Wind   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The influence of wind on the splash dispersal of Septoria nodorum pycnidiospores was studied in a raintower/wind tunnel complex with single drops or simulated rain falling on spore suspensions or infected stubble with windspeeds of 1.5 to 4 m/sec. When single drops fell on spore suspensions (depth 0.5 mm, concentration 7.8 × 105 spores/ml) most of the spore-carrying droplets collected on fixed photographic film between 0–4 m downwind (windspeed 3 m/sec) were >200 μm in diameter. However, most spores were carried in droplets with diameter > 1000 μm, 70 % of which carried more than 100 spores. When simulated rain fell on infected stubble most of the spore-carrying droplets collected beyond 1 m downwind (windspeeds 1.4 and 4 m/sec) were <200 μm in diameter and none were >600 μm; most of these droplets carried only one spore. The distribution of splash droplets (with diameter >100 μm) deposited on chromatography paper showed a maximum at 40–50 cm upwind of the target but many more droplets were deposited 20–30 cm downwind, when single drops fell on a spore suspension (concentration 1.2 × 105 spores/ ml) containing fluorescein dye with a windspeed of 2 m/sec; droplets were collected up to 3 m downwind but not more than 70 cm upwind. With a windspeed of 3 m/sec, numbers of sporecarrying droplets and spores collected on film decreased with increasing distance downwind; most were collected within 2 m of the target but some were found up to 4 m. When simulated rain fell on infected stubble, increasing the windspeed from 1.5 to 4 m/sec greatly increased the number of spores deposited more than 1 m downwind. At 1.5 m/sec none were collected beyond 2 m downwind, whereas at 4 m/sec some were collected at 4 m. A few air-borne S. nodorum spores were collected by suction samplers at a height of 40 cm at distances up to 10 m downwind of a target spore suspension on which simulated rain fell.  相似文献

Laboratory soil bioassays were performed at economic field rates for in-furrow (3.85 x 10(6)spores/g dry soil) and broadcast (3.85 x 10(5)spores/g dry soil) applications with three isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae (F52, ATCC62176, and ARSEF5520) and one isolate of Beauveria bassiana (GHA). All isolates tested were infective to second instar Delia radicum (L.). The conditionally registered M. anisopliae isolate (F52) performed best killing an average of 85 and 72% of D. radicum larvae at the high and low concentration, respectively. The mean LC50 and LC95 of F52 against second instar D. radicum was 2.7 x 10(6) and 1.8 x 10(8)spores/g dry soil, respectively. The use of F52 in an integrated management program is discussed.  相似文献

Enteromorpha , the most important macroalga that fouls ships, produces very large numbers of swimming spores that respond to a number of settlement cues. Responses to topographic cues have been investigated using surfaces with defined microtopographies fabricated from polydimethyl siloxane elastomer (PDMS). The topographic features were based on two designs, (a) a series of 5 or 1.5 w m deep valleys with valley floors and ridges varying between 5 and 20 w m, and (b) pillars of 5 w m diameter and 5 or 1.5 w m height, spaced 5-20 w m apart. The features were arranged in blocks to provide the swimming spores with a 'choice' of where to settle. Swimming spores settled preferentially in the valleys and against the pillars. The number of spores that settled increased very substantially as the width of the valley decreased. The majority of spores settled in the angle between the valley floor and sidewall. Lower numbers settled on the surfaces with lower profile features. Silica beads of similar dimension to the spore body were used to determine whether the spatial relationships between settled spores and the topographic features were a consequence of active settlement behaviours. The results are discussed in relation to the energy needs for spores to adhere to various surface features.  相似文献

Background and Aims

Initial release height and settling speed of diaspores are biologically controlled components which are key to modelling wind dispersal. Most Sphagnum (peat moss) species have explosive spore liberation. In this study, how capsule and spore sizes affect the height to which spores are propelled were measured, and how spore size and spore number of discharged particles relate to settling speed in the aspherical Sphagnum spores.

Methods

Spore discharge and spore cloud development were filmed in a closed chamber (nine species). Measurements were taken from snapshots at three stages of cloud development. Settling speed of spores (14 species) and clusters were timed in a glass tube.

Key Results

The maximum discharge speed measured was 3·6 m s−1. Spores reached a maximum height of 20 cm (average: 15 cm) above the capsule. The cloud dimensions at all stages were related positively to capsule size (R2 = 0·58–0·65). Thus species with large shoots (because they have large capsules) have a dispersal advantage. Half of the spores were released as singles and the rest as clusters (usually two to four spores). Single spores settled at 0·84–1·86 cm s−1, about 52 % slower than expected for spherical spores with the same diameters. Settling speed displayed a positive curvilinear relationship with spore size, close to predictions by Stokes'' law for spherical spores with 68 % of the actual diameters. Light-coloured spores settled slower than dark spores. Settling speed of spore clusters agrees with earlier studies. Effective spore discharge and small, slowly settling spores appear particularly important for species in forested habitats.

Conclusions

The spore discharge heights in Sphagnum are among the greatest for small, wind-dispersed propagules. The discharge heights and the slow settling of spores affect dispersal distances positively and may help to explain the wide distribution of most boreal Sphagnum species.  相似文献

Piezoelectric-excited millimeter-sized cantilever (PEMC) sensors consisting of a piezoelectric and a borosilicate glass layer with a sensing area of 2.48 mm2 were fabricated. Antibody specific to Bacillus anthracis (BA, Sterne strain 7702) spores was immobilized on PEMC sensors, and exposed to spores (300 to 3x10(6) spores/mL). The resonant frequency decreased at a rate proportional to the spore concentration and reached a steady state frequency change of 5+/-5 Hz (n=3), 92+/-7 Hz (n=3), 500+/-10 Hz (n=3), 1030+/-10 Hz (n=2), and 2696+/-6 Hz (n=2) corresponding to 0, 3x10(2), 3x10(3), 3x10(4), and 3x10(6) spores/mL, respectively. The reduction in resonant frequency is proportional to the change in cantilever mass, and thus the observed changes are due to the attachment of spores on the sensor surface. Selectivity of the antibody-functionalized sensor was determined with samples of BA (3x10(6)/mL) mixed with Bacillus thuringiensis (BT; 1.5x10(9)/mL) in various volume ratios that yielded BA:BT ratios of 1:0, 1:125, 1:250, 1:500 and 0:1. The corresponding resonance frequency decreases were, respectively, 2345, 1980, 1310, 704 and 10 Hz. Sample containing 100% BT spores (1.5x10(9)/mL and no BA) gave a steady state frequency decrease of 10 Hz, which is within noise level of the sensor, indicating excellent selectivity. The observed binding rate constant for the pure BA and BT-containing samples ranged from 0.105 to 0.043 min-1 in the spore concentration range 300 to 3x10(6)/mL. These results show that detection of B. anthracis spore at a very low concentration (300 spores/mL) and with high selectivity in presence of another Bacillus spore (BT) can be accomplished using piezoelectric-excited millimeter-sized cantilever sensors.  相似文献

The kinetics of tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) and DSPAalpha1-catalyzed plasminogen activation using untreated and TAFIa-treated fibrin degradation products (FDPs), ranging in weight average molecular weight (M(w)) from 0.48 x 10(6) to 4.94 x 10(6) g/mol, were modeled according to the steady-state template model. The FDPs served as effective cofactors for both activators. The intrinsic catalytic efficiencies of both t-PA (17.4 x 10(5) m(-1) s(-1)) and DSPAalpha1 (6.0 x 10(5) m(-1) s(-1)) were independent of FDP M(w). The intrinsic catalytic efficiency of t-PA was 12-fold higher than that measured under identical conditions with intact fibrin as the cofactor. At sub-saturating levels of cofactor and substrate, rates were strongly dependent on FDP M(w) with DSPAalpha1 but not t-PA. Loss of activity with decreasing FDP M(w) correlated with loss of finger-dependent binding of the activators to the FDPs. TAFIa treatment of the FDPs resulted in 90- and 215-fold decreases in the catalytic efficiencies of t-PA (0.20 x 10(5) m(-)(1) s(-1)) and DSPAalpha1 (0.028 x 10(5) m(-1) s(-1)), yielding cofactors that were still 30- and 50-fold better than fibrinogen with t-PA and DSPAalpha1, respectively. Our results show that for both activators the products released during fibrinolysis are very effective cofactors for plasminogen activation, and both t-PA and DSPAalpha1 cofactor activity are strongly down-regulated by TAFIa.  相似文献

Hydraulic resistance (HR) was measured for ten intact human lumbar vertebrae to further understand the mechanisms of fluid flow through porous bone. Oil was forced through the vertebral bodies under various volumetric flow rates and the resultant pressure was measured The pressure-flow relationship for each specimen was linear. Therefore, HR was constant with a mean of 2.22 +/- 1.45 kPa*sec/ml. The mean permeability of the intact vertebral bodies was 4.90x10(-10) +/- 4.45x10(-10) m2. These results indicate that this methodology is valid for whole bone samples and enables the exploration of the effects of HR on the creation of high-speed fractures.  相似文献

Five experiments evaluated the effects of processing, freezing and thawing techniques on post-thaw motility of equine sperm. Post-thaw motility was similar for sperm frozen using two cooling rates. Inclusion of 4% glycerol extender was superior to 2 or 6%. Thawing in 75 degrees C water for 7 sec was superior to thawing in 37 degrees C water for 30 sec. The best procedure for concentrating sperm, based on sperm motility, was diluting semen to 50 x 10(6) sperm/ml with a citrate-based centrifugation medium at 20 degrees C and centrifuging at 400 x g for 15 min. There was no difference in sperm motility between semen cooled slowly in extender with or without glycerol to 5 degrees C prior to freezing to -120 degrees C and semen cooled continuously from 20 degrees C to -120 degrees C. From these experiments, a new procedure for processing, freezing and thawing semen evolved. The new procedure involved dilution of semen to 50 x 10(6) sperm/ml in centrifugation medium and centrifugation at 400 x g for 15 min, resuspension of sperm in lactose-EDTA-egg yolk extender containing 4% glycerol, packaging in 0.5-ml polyvinyl chloride straws, freezing at 10 degrees C/min from 20 degrees C to -15 degrees C and 25 degrees C/min from -15 degrees C to -120 degrees C, storage at -196 degrees C, and thawing at 75 degrees C for 7 sec. Post-thaw motility of sperm averaged 34% for the new method as compared to 22% for the old method (P<0.01).  相似文献

The nematode-trapping fungus Duddingtonia flagrans may be used as a biological control agent of gastro-intestinal nematode larvae of ruminants by feeding the hosts with fungal spores. This trial was intended to search an eventual detrimental impact of the presence of spores of D. flagrans in high numbers in goat feces on the common dung beetle, Aphodius constans (Coleoptera: Aphodiidae). A. constans eggs were settled in feces derived from grazing goats fed spores at daily dose rates of 0, 0.25 × 106, 0.5 × 106 or 106 spores/kg BW. At the end of the incubation period, the number of adults that have emerged from eggs were counted and compared between dose rates. No difference in emergence rate between treatments can be seen. The presence of D. flagrans spores in goat feces, even in large numbers, did not alter the development of A. constans.  相似文献

d-Arabinose isomerase (EC 5.3.1.3) has been isolated from l-fucose-induced cultures of Escherichia coli K-12 and d-arabinose-induced cultures of E. coli B/r. Both enzymes were homogeneous in an ultracentrifuge and migrated as single bands upon disc electrophoresis in acrylamide gels. The s(20,w) was 14.5 x 10(-13) sec for the E. coli K-12 enzyme and 14.3 x 10(-13) sec for the E. coli B/r enzyme. The molecular weight, determined by high-speed sedimentation equilibrium, was 3.55 +/- 0.06 x 10(5) for the E. coli K-12 enzyme and 3.42 +/- 0.04 x 10(5) for the enzyme isolated from E. coli B/r. Both enzyme preparations were active wth l-fucose or d-arabinose as substrates and showed no activity on any of the other aldopentoses or aldohexoses tested. With the E. coli K-12 enzyme, the K(m) was 2.8 x 10(-1)m for d-arabinose and 4.5 x 10(-2)m for l-fucose; with the E. coli B/r enzyme, the K(m) was 1.7 x 10(-1)m for d-arabinose and 4.2 x 10(-2)m for l-fucose. Both enzymes were inhibited by several of the polyalcohols tested, ribitol, l-arabitol, and dulcitol being the strongest. Both enzymes exhibited a broad plateau of optimal catalytic activity in the alkaline range. Both enzymes were stimulated by the presence of Mn(2+) or Co(2+) ions, but were strongly inhibited by the presence of Cd(2+) ions. Both enzymes were precipitated by antisera prepared against either enzyme preparation. The amino acid composition for both proteins has been determined; a striking similarity has been detected. Both enzymes could be dissociated, by protonation at pH 2 or by dialysis against buffer containing 8 m urea, into subunits that were homogeneous in an ultracentrifuge and migrated as single bands on disc electrophoresis in acrylamide gels containing urea. The molecular weight of the subunit, determined by high-speed sedimentation equilibrium, was 9.09 +/- 0.2 x 10(4) for the enzyme from E. coli K-12 and 8.46 +/- 0.1 x 10(4) for the enzyme from E. coli B/r. On the basis of biophysical studies, both isomerases appear to be oligomeric proteins consisting of four identical subunits.  相似文献

Relative content of the oocyte and somatic 5S rRNA in loach Misgurnus fossilis L. during development was determined electrophoretically. Embryos before hatching contain 70% and swimming larvae no less than 50% of the oocyte 5S rRNA. We assume that the relative content of 5S rRNA fractions reflects the proportion between ribosomes synthesized during oogenesis and those synthesized in embryos and larvae. We calculated using previous data (Timofeeva, Kafiani, 1964) the rates of maternal ribosome decay and ribosome synthesis in the embryo. During organogenesis these rates appear to be 1.17-1.09 x 10(6) and 1.7 x 10(6) molecules/sec per embryo, respectively.  相似文献

Erythrocytes were settled from whole blood in standard 200 x 2.5 mm erythrocyte settling rate tubes placed vertically and at various angles from 85 degrees to 15 degrees from the horizontal. In all cases sedimentation rates measured along the slope increased with decreasing angle from the horizontal. Vertical settled distances rapidly increased down to an angle of 70 degrees and then changed very little even down to angles as shallow as 30 degrees. Evidence is presented that convection plays a significant role in the inclined settling of erythrocytes, as has already been demonstrated with clay, or glass bead suspensions in water. Inclined settling enhancements obtained are quite similar to those observed under similar conditions with yeast cells in aqueous glucose.  相似文献

Cultivation of the climbing plant Dioscorea zingiberensis at a light intensity of 100 microE. m(-2) sec(-1) yields three different phenotypes. Most of the plants grow as green phenotype (DzW). Two further forms differ in their leaf shape and leaf color. Whereas one type exhibits a more pointed leaf shape in the upper part of the plant with leaves appearing yellow-green with white stripes or hatchings (DzY), the other type shows a more round leaf shape with an intensive yellow-green color (DzT). These three plant types differ in their diosgenin content not only in their rhizomes but also in the chloroplasts. In the rhizomes the diosgenin content in the green form is 0.4%, in the DzY-form 0.6% and in the DzT-form even 1.3% of the dry weight. Furthermore, even in chloroplasts of the green DzW-form and of the DzY-form the presence of diosgenin was demonstrated. It occurs there as the epimeric form yamogenin. The DzT-form contains no yamogenin in its chloroplasts. Besides this, these plant forms differ in their chlorophyll and carotenoid content and in their fatty acid composition. Carotenoids increase from 1.3% of total lipids in the green phenotype to 3.3% in the DzY- and to 4.2% in the DzT-form. This increase refers to beta-carotene as well as to lutein and neoxanthin. The chlorophyll content in the green type is 8.1% and lower in the DzY-form with 7%. The highest chlorophyll content is found in the DzT-form with 12%. Fatty acids in the DzY-form and in the DzT-form have a more unsaturated character than in the green phenotype. The content of the monoenoic acid trans-hexadecenoic acid is considerably lower in both phenotypes when compared to the green phenotype. In both phenotypes the quantity of fatty acids with 16 carbon atoms is reduced, whereas fatty acids with 18 carbon atoms occur in higher concentration. Cultivation of the green phenotype (DzW) at the three light intensities of 10, 100 and 270 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1) leads to changes of the diosgenin content in rhizomes, to an increase of leaf dry weight, to a reduction of the grana structure in chloroplasts and therewith to a decrease of the chlorophyll content. The total lipid content is highest under the cultivation at 100 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1) and reduced by 30% at 10 and 270 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1). Carotenoids, however, are highest in shaded plants (10 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1)) and plants grown under high light conditions of 270 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1). At 100 microE x m(-2) x sec(-1) a decrease of saturated fatty acids is observed in comparison to plants grown under shaded conditions.  相似文献

Three experiments were conducted to determine the effect of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on poliovirus-contaminated seawater. In two of the experiments, the effectiveness of the Kelly-Purdy UV Seawater Treatment Unit to inactivate poliovirus type 1 (T(1)) suspended in continuously flowing seawater was determined. In experiment 1, the observed survival ratio of poliovirus T(1) was 2.3 x 10(-4) (99.98% reduction) in 15.7 sec. No virus was detected (<0.2 plaque-forming unit/ml) in 20.6 seconds. The calculated half-life value was 1.29 sec. In experiment 2, the observed survival ratio of poliovirus T(1) was 5.9 x 10(-4) (99.94% reduction) in 11.7 sec. No virus was detected in 15.7 sec. The calculated half-life value was 1.37 sec. In experiment 3, a laboratory-controlled UV experiment designed to closely simulate the geometry of the continuously flowing seawater system, the observed survival ratios of poliovirus T(1) were 9.7 x 10(-3) (99.03% reduction) and 3.6 x 10(-4) (99.96% reduction) in 15 and 30 sec, respectively; the calculated half-life value was 2.38 sec. A statistically significant difference was found between the inactivation rates of poliovirus T(1) in the two test systems. This rate difference was attributed primarily to UV dosage and stirring effects. The data indicated that UV radiation effectively inactivated poliovirus T(1) in flowing seawater. These results validate the efficacy of the Kelly-Purdy UV Seawater Treatment Unit for use in commercial depuration systems.  相似文献

1. Isocitrate lyase (threo-d(s)-isocitrate glyoxylate-lyase, EC 4.1.3.1) has been purified from acetate-adapted cells of Chlorella pyrenoidosa. 2. The final preparation was homogeneous by the criteria of sedimentation, diffusion and polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis. 3. The sedimentation coefficient (S(20,w)) was 9.04x10(-13)sec. and the diffusion coefficient (D(20,w)) 4.62x10(-7)cm.(2)/sec.; from these values the molecular weight of the enzyme was calculated to be 170000 and its Stokes radius to be 4.63x10(-7)cm. 4. The elution of the enzyme from Sephadex G-100 was studied and estimates of molecular weight and Stokes radius were obtained from the elution data. 5. The turnover number of the enzyme was 5950moles of glyoxylate formed/min./mole of enzyme at 30 degrees . 6. With threo-d(s)(+)-isocitrate as substrate, the K(m) of the enzyme was 0.023mm.  相似文献

Toluene removal from waste air using a flat composite membrane bioreactor   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this report, gaseous toluene biodegradation results in a flat composite membrane reactor inoculated with Pseudomonas putida TVA8 are presented. Preliminary abiotic experiments showed that transport of toluene through the membrane was linearly and negatively correlated with the gas residence time (tau). During a 339-day biofiltration experiment, the influence of gas residence time (2-24 sec) and mass loading rate (B(v); 10-483 g x m(-3) h(-1)) on the toluene elimination capacity was investigated. A maximum elimination capacity (EC(max)) of 397 g x m(-3) h(-1) was achieved at tau = 24 sec and B(v) = 473 g x m(-3) h(-1). Expressed per unit membrane area, the EC(m,max) was 0.793 g x m(-2) h(-1), which is five times higher than results obtained with other membrane bioreactor experiments in the same range of loading rates. At low gas residence times, reactor performance was limited by mass transfer. Toluene concentration profiles along the membrane were measured for several biotic and abiotic conditions. For inlet concentrations (C(in)) up to 1 g x m(-3), more than 90% was eliminated at 15 cm from the reactor inlet. For C(in) > 1.65 g x m(-3), longer membranes are necessary to obtain these high removal efficiencies.  相似文献

We studied the sounds of narwhals ( Monodon monoceros ) foraging in the open waters in Northwest Greenland. We used a linear, vertical array of three hydrophones (depth 10 m, 30 m, 100 m) with a fourth hydrophone (depth 30 m) about 20 m from the vertical array. A smaller fifth hydrophone (depth 2 m) allowed for registering frequencies up to 125 kHz (± 2 dB) when signals were recorded at 762 mm/set on an instrumentation tape recorder. Clicks were the prevalent signals, but we heard whistles occasionally. We separated the clicks into two classes: click trains that had rates of 3-10 clicks/sec and click bursts having rates of 110-150 clicks/sec. The spectra of train clicks had maximum amplitudes at 48 ± 10 kHz and a duration of 29 ± 6 psec. The spectra of burst clicks had maximum amplitudes at 19 ± 1 kHz and a duration of 40 ± 3 psec. By analogy with other dolphin species, narwhals presumably use the clicks for echolocation during orientation and for locating prey. The narwhal click patterns resemble those of insectivorous bats. Click trains might correspond to bat searching signals and click bursts to the bat's terminal "buzz", emitted just before prey capture.  相似文献
