This paper presents an EM algorithm for semiparametric likelihood analysis of linear, generalized linear, and nonlinear regression models with measurement errors in explanatory variables. A structural model is used in which probability distributions are specified for (a) the response and (b) the measurement error. A distribution is also assumed for the true explanatory variable but is left unspecified and is estimated by nonparametric maximum likelihood. For various types of extra information about the measurement error distribution, the proposed algorithm makes use of available routines that would be appropriate for likelihood analysis of (a) and (b) if the true x were available. Simulations suggest that the semiparametric maximum likelihood estimator retains a high degree of efficiency relative to the structural maximum likelihood estimator based on correct distributional assumptions and can outperform maximum likelihood based on an incorrect distributional assumption. The approach is illustrated on three examples with a variety of structures and types of extra information about the measurement error distribution.  相似文献

The work focuses on a theoretical approach to investigating the electric field (EF) dependence of bond-length alternation, the geometric and electronic structures of molecular wires used in the design of molecular electronic devices, the EF dependence of SCF energy, and the spatial distribution of the frontier orbitals of the molecular wires. Just as the bond length is an important influence on the conductance of the molecular wire, the dependence of the conductance on the chain length was also studied. We have also investigated how the current–voltage (I-V) characteristics change with bond length, as the bond length plays an important role in determining the conductance of molecular wires.  相似文献

Foot and toe clearance (TC) are used regularly to describe locomotor control for both clinical and basic research. However, accuracy of TC during obstacle crossing can be compromised by typical sample frequencies, which do not capture the frame when the foot is over the obstacle due to high limb velocities. The purpose of this study was to decrease the error of TC measures by increasing the spatial resolution of the toe trajectory with interpolation. Five young subjects stepped over an obstacle in the middle of an 8 m walkway. Position data were captured at 600 Hz as a gold standard signal (GS-600-Hz). The GS-600-Hz signal was downsampled to 60 Hz (DS-60-Hz). The DS-60-Hz was then interpolated by either upsampling or an algorithm. Error was calculated as the absolute difference in TC between GS-600-Hz and each of the remaining signals, for both the leading limb and the trailing limb. All interpolation methods reduced the TC error to a similar extent. Interpolation reduced the median error of trail TC from 5.4 to 1.1 mm; the maximum error was reduced from 23.4 to 4.2 mm (16.6-3.8%). The median lead TC error improved from 1.6 to 0.5 mm, and the maximum error improved from 9.1 to 1.8 mm (5.3-0.9%). Therefore, interpolating a 60 Hz signal is a valid technique to decrease the error of TC during obstacle crossing.  相似文献

Since its accidental introduction in 2004, the Asian yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) has quickly spread in France. V. velutina specializes in the emblematic honeybee, Apis mellifera which are unable to protect their colonies efficiently against this fierce new predator. Here, we investigated whether two defence devices, a ploy and a muzzle, can protect bee colonies. Our results showed that neither device was able to reduce the number of hornets present in front of the hive or their predation efficiency (i.e. the number of captured bees). However, we found more flying bees and a smaller bee carpet in the presence of a muzzle, evidence that this very cheap method of protection can reduce the hornets’ impact on the activity of the bee colony and thus probably enabling its survival. We also showed that the number of agonistic interactions among V. velutina individuals increased with the number of hornets but without influencing the predation rate in our experimental conditions. The threat to honey bees is now well described, but the Asian yellow-legged hornet very likely has an impact on another insect species that has been the subject of far fewer studies: The native European hornet (Vespa cabro). Monitoring of several apiaries suggests that high densities of both V. velutina and V. crabro are exclusive and that the two species are engaged in an exploitative competition interaction. We are thus already in a position to underline the need for combined protection, as well as for further studies to better understand the ecology of V. velutina, to reduce the damage they cause.  相似文献

In nutritional epidemiology, dietary intake assessed with a food frequency questionnaire is prone to measurement error. Ignoring the measurement error in covariates causes estimates to be biased and leads to a loss of power. In this paper, we consider an additive error model according to the characteristics of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)‐InterAct Study data, and derive an approximate maximum likelihood estimation (AMLE) for covariates with measurement error under logistic regression. This method can be regarded as an adjusted version of regression calibration and can provide an approximate consistent estimator. Asymptotic normality of this estimator is established under regularity conditions, and simulation studies are conducted to empirically examine the finite sample performance of the proposed method. We apply AMLE to deal with measurement errors in some interested nutrients of the EPIC‐InterAct Study under a sensitivity analysis framework.  相似文献

Musculoskeletal modeling and simulations have vast potential in clinical and research fields, but face various challenges in representing the complexities of the human body. Soft tissue artifact from skin-mounted markers may lead to non-physiological representation of joint motions being used as inputs to models in simulations. To address this, we have developed adaptive joint constraints on five of the six degree of freedom of the knee joint based on in vivo tibiofemoral joint motions recorded during walking, hopping and cutting motions from subjects instrumented with intra-cortical pins inserted into their tibia and femur. The constraint boundaries vary as a function of knee flexion angle and were tested on four whole-body models including four to six knee degrees of freedom. A musculoskeletal model developed in OpenSim simulation software was constrained to these in vivo boundaries during level gait and inverse kinematics and dynamics were then resolved. Statistical parametric mapping indicated significant differences (p < 0.05) in kinematics between bone pin constrained and unconstrained model conditions, notably in knee translations, while hip and ankle flexion/extension angles were also affected, indicating the error at the knee propagates to surrounding joints. These changes to hip, knee, and ankle kinematics led to measurable changes in hip and knee transverse plane moments, and knee frontal plane moments and forces. Since knee flexion angle can be validly represented using skin mounted markers, our tool uses this reliable measure to guide the five other degrees of freedom at the knee and provide a more valid representation of the kinematics for these degrees of freedom.  相似文献
