This study was conducted to determine whether the frequency of hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT) deficient lymphocyte mutants would detect an effect of radiation exposure in a population of Russians who were exposed to low levels of radiation while working in 1986 and 1987 as liquidators cleaning up after the Chernobyl nuclear power reactor accident. The HPRT lymphocyte cloning assay was performed on peripheral blood lymphocytes collected between 1992 and 1996 from 142 liquidators and 66 Russian controls, and between 1989 and 1993 from 231 American controls. Russian and American controls were not significantly different for either cloning efficiency or mutant frequency (MF); inclusion of both sets of controls in the analysis increased the ability to detect a Chernobyl exposure effect in the liquidators. After adjusting for age and smoking, the results revealed no significant difference in cloning efficiency of Chernobyl liquidators relative to Russian controls but a significant, 24% increase in liquidator HPRT mutant frequency over Russian controls (90% confidence interval was 7% to 45% increase). The analytical method also accounted for differences in precision of the individual estimates of log CE and log MF and accommodated for outliers. The increase in HPRT mutant frequency of liquidators is an attribute of the exposed population as a whole rather than of individuals. These results demonstrate that, under appropriate circumstances, the HPRT specific locus mutation assay of peripheral blood lymphocytes can be used to detect a semi-acute, low dose radiation exposure of a population, even 6 to 10 years after the exposure.  相似文献

Large carnivores were persecuted to near extinction during the last centuries, but have now recovered in some countries. It has been proposed earlier that the recovery of the Northern European brown bear is supported by migration from Russia. We tested this hypothesis by obtaining for the first time continuous sampling of the whole Finnish bear population, which is located centrally between the Russian and Scandinavian bear populations. The Finnish population is assumed to experience high gene flow from Russian Karelia. If so, no or a low degree of genetic differentiation between Finnish and Russian bears could be expected. We have genotyped bears extensively from all over Finland using 12 validated microsatellite markers and compared their genetic composition to bears from Russian Karelia, Sweden, and Norway. Our fine masked investigation identified two overlapping genetic clusters structured by isolation-by-distance in Finland (pairwise FST = 0.025). One cluster included Russian bears, and migration analyses showed a high number of migrants from Russia into Finland, providing evidence of eastern gene flow as an important driver during recovery. In comparison, both clusters excluded bears from Sweden and Norway, and we found no migrants from Finland in either country, indicating that eastern gene flow was probably not important for the population recovery in Scandinavia. Our analyses on different spatial scales suggest a continuous bear population in Finland and Russian Karelia, separated from Scandinavia.  相似文献

Earlier studies showed that Russian honey bees support slow growth of varroa mite population. We studied whether or not comb type influenced varroa reproduction in both Russian and Italian honey bees, and whether Russian bees produced comb which inhibited varroa reproduction. The major differences found in this study concerned honey bee type. Overall, the Russian honey bees had lower (2.44 ± 0.18%) levels of varroa infestation than Italian honey bees (7.20 ± 0.60%). This decreased infestation resulted in part from a reduced number of viable female offspring per foundress in the Russian (0.85 ± 0.04 female) compared to the Italian (1.23 ± 0.04 females) honey bee colonies. In addition, there was an effect by the comb built by the Russian honey bee colonies that reduced varroa reproduction. When comparing combs having Russian or Italian colony origins, Russian honey bee colonies had more non-reproducing foundress mites and fewer viable female offspring in Russian honey bee comb. This difference did not occur in Italian colonies. The age of comb in this study had mixed effects. Older comb produced similar responses for six of the seven varroa infestation parameters measured. In colonies of Italian honey bees, the older comb (2001 dark) had fewer (1.13 ± 0.07 females) viable female offspring per foundress than were found in the 2002 new (1.21 ± 0.06 females) and 1980s new (1.36 ± 0.08 females) combs. This difference did not occur with Russian honey bee colonies where the number of viable female offspring was low in all three types of combs. This study suggests that honey bee type largely influences growth of varroa mite population in a colony.  相似文献

Population structure of Russian population from the European part of Russia was investigated by analyzing the distribution of 23 SNP makers of Y chromosome in Russian populations from Kaluga, Yaroslavl’, Vladimir, Nizhni Novgorod, Pskov, Tula, Belgorod, and Novgorod oblasts. In the populations studied a total of 14 Y-chromosome haplogroups (E, F*, I, J, K*, N3a, N2, P*, R1*, R1a1, C3, G, H, and A) were discovered, of which haplogroups R1a1, I, and N3a were the prevailing. Analysis of Φ statistics in the populations grouped in accordance to the dialect subdivision of the Russian language, showed the absence of statistically significant differences between Russian population groups. Analysis of the Y-chromosome markers distribution patterns among Russian population (10 population groups) in comparison with the population of Germany (11 population groups) and Poland (8 population groups) revealed statistically significant differences between the gene pools of Slavs (Russians and Poles) and Teutons (Germans).  相似文献

In the present study, we investigated the genetic polymorphisms of 15 autosomal STR loci in the Russian population of northeastern Inner-Mongolia, China as well as its genetic relationships with other populations. DNA typing for 15 autosomal STR loci was performed on 148 randomly selected healthy individuals from the Russian population living in Eerguna, northeastern Inner-Mongolia. Allelic frequencies of these loci were calculated by direct counting. The genotype data of this Russian population was moreover compared to other populations using neighbor-joining method, as such constructing a phylogenic tree. A total of 143 alleles were found in the Russian population with corresponding allele frequencies in the range from 0.0034 to 0.5372. Among all the 15 loci, D18S51 had the highest polymorphism (PIC = 0.8632), whereas TPOX had the lowest (PIC = 0.5179). In the phylogenic tree, this Russian population has a close relationship with the populations of South Siberia and northeastern Asia. This study may increase our understanding of the genetic background of the Russian population in Eerguna, China as such providing useful information for anthropological research, forensic sciences as well as disease-association studies.  相似文献

Of all the former Soviet republics, Kazakhstan has what may well be the most untenable interethnic predicament ‐ an ethnic Russian population that is nearly as large as the ethnic Kazakh population. The Russians, moreover, constitute a majority of the population in the northern part of the country, which borders the Russian republic. Having the unenviable task of nation‐building in an increasingly fragmented multi‐ethnic environment, Nazarbaev has made his strategy clear: build a strong unitary Kazakh state by steadily increasing control over the Russian‐dominated provinces of the north. Kazakh action in the north, and Russian response, will determine whether there is a future for a multinational Kazakhstan.  相似文献

采用ISSR标记,对中国沙棘和俄罗斯沙棘进行遗传多样性分析,结果显示:(1)13个随机引物共检测到96个位点,其中95个位点具有多态性.(2)中国沙棘雌、雄株的多态位点分别为57和56,多态位点百分率为59.38%和58.33%;俄罗斯沙棘雌、雄株的多态位点均为72,多态位点百分率为75%.(3)Nei指数和Shannon指数估计的遗传多样性表现为俄罗斯沙棘雄株最高,其次为俄罗斯沙棘雌株,然后是中国沙棘雌株,最小的是中国沙棘雄株.表明俄罗斯沙棘因其为蒙古沙棘和中亚沙棘的杂交后代,在遗传上更具有多样性,而中国沙棘由于种群单一,其遗传多样性低;从种间遗传关系来看,中国沙棘的雌株与雄株及俄罗斯沙棘的雌株与雄株的遗传距离近,而中国沙棘与俄罗斯沙棘的遗传距离较远.  相似文献

The Don Basin rivers confined to Saratov oblast were searched for the Russian desman in 2009–2011. The suitability of habitats for this species was assessed. Potentially negative factors for the Russian desman (Desmana moschata) in various types of habitats were detected, and their intensities were assessed. The small tributaries of the Khopyor and Medveditsa rivers have turned out to be suitable for the Russian desman; however, neither animals nor any sign of their life activities have been found using different techniques. Nonetheless, we cannot state that this species is absent in the small rivers of the Saratov oblast; however, if this species is present in the examined area, its abundance is extremely low. A drastic decrease in the Russian desman population and even its disappearance are most likely associated with intraspecific processes, factors of a global scale, and immigration of new species previously not found in the river ecosystems in the examined areas.  相似文献

The Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), is a serious worldwide pest of wheat and barley. Russian wheat aphid populations from Hungary, Russia, and Syria have previously been identified as virulent to D. noxia (Dn) 4, the gene in all Russian wheat aphid-resistant cultivars produced in Colorado. However, the virulence of Russian wheat aphid populations from central Europe, North Africa, and South America to existing Dn genes has not been assessed. Experiments with plants containing several different Dn genes demonstrated that populations from Chile, the Czech Republic, and Ethiopia are also virulent to Dn4. The Czech population was also virulent to plants containing the Dnx gene in wheat plant introduction PI220127. The Ethiopian population was also virulent to plants containing the Dny gene in the Russian wheat aphid-resistant 'Stanton' produced in Kansas. The Chilean and Ethiopian populations were unaffected by the antibiosis resistance in Dn4 plants. There were significantly more nymphs of the Chilean population on plants of Dn4 than on Dn6 plants at both 18 and 23 d postinfestation, and the Ethiopian population attained a significantly greater weight on Dn4 plants than on plants containing Dn5 or Dn6. These newly characterized virulent Russian wheat aphid populations pose a distinct threat to existing or proposed wheat cultivars possessing Dn4.  相似文献

Haplotype frequencies and allele distributions at 11 STR loci of the Y chromosome were evaluated in 180 unrelated individuals from Russian population of Southern Federal district of the Russian Federation (Rostov oblast, Krasnodar krai, and Stavropol krai). Among 153 Y-chromosomal haplotypes discovered, 62 were unique. In the sample of Russian population, the most frequent haplotype (frequency of 5.56%) was 16-11,14-13-30-25-11-11-13-14-11-10 (for the loci DYS19, DYS385a,b, DYS389I, DYS389II, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, and DYS439, respectively). Despite the high diversity of Y-chromosomal haplotypes in the Russian populations from the south of Russia (the h value was 0.997, 0.995, and 0.994 in Rostov, Krasnodar, and Stavropol samples, respectively), analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed the absence of differentiation between the populations (ΦST = 0.1%, P = 0.36). Comparative differentiation analysis performed for 13 Russian populations from the European part of Russia pointed to low among-population differentiation in Y-chromosomal lineages (ΦST = 0.52%, P = 0.03).  相似文献

The study was aimed at clarifying the relative roles of genetic and environmental factors in determination of the blood concentration of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the Russian population. For this purpose, some polymorphic systems of the apolipoproteins B, CII, and CIII; cholesterol ether transport protein (CETP); and lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) genes were compared in two groups of males living in Moscow who had high and low blood HDL-C concentrations (less than 40 and more than 50 mg/dl, respectively). No statistically significant differences were found between distributions of the allelic variants of the genes studied in males with different blood HDL-C concentrations. Thus, the given panel of proteins connected with the metabolism of blood plasma lipids has no effect on the blood HDL-C concentration in Russian males from the Moscow population.  相似文献

We conducted the first genetic analysis of a wide a range of rural Russian populations in European Russia with a panel of DNA markers commonly used in Human DNA identification. We examined a total of 647 samples from indigenous ethnic Russian populations in Arkhangelsk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov, Ryazan, and Orel regions. We employed a multiplex genotyping kit, COrDIS Plus, to genotype Short Tandem Repeat (STR) loci, which included markers officially recommended for DNA identification in the Russian Federation, the United States, and the European Union. In the course of our study, we created a database of allele frequencies, examined the distribution of alleles and genotypes in seven rural Russian populations, and analyzed the genetic relationships between these populations. We found that, although multidimensional analysis indicated a difference between the Northern Russian gene pool and the rest of the Russian European populations, a pairwise comparison using 19 STR markers among all populations did not reveal significant differences. This is in concordance with previous studies, which examined up to 12 STR markers in urban Russian populations. Therefore, the database of allele frequencies created in this study can be applied for forensic examinations and DNA identification among the ethnic Russian population over European Russia. We also noted a decrease in the levels of heterozygosity in the northern Russian population compared to southern and central Russian populations, which is consistent with trends identified previously using classical gene markers and analysis of mitochondrial DNA.  相似文献

Steller sea lions ( Eumetopias jubatus ) have experienced a decline in Russia as well as the United States. The causes for the decline of the Russian population may or may not overlap the causes of the decline in Alaska. The demographics of the Russian population are not well understood and are an area of interest for scientists wishing to compare and contrast the Alaskan and Russian stocks. This study uses a unique observational system to assess survival by age at a small rookery on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Kozlova Cape. We proceeded under the hypothesis that changes in environmental conditions between years would produce noticeable differences in survival of pups born in those years. We found no evidence to support our hypothesis, but did find some differences from the Alaskan population in estimated survival for the juvenile stage class. This study also provides some of the history of Steller sea lions in Russia for context.  相似文献

The genetic population structure of the postfire ascomycete Daldinia loculata was studied to test for differentiation on a continental scale. Ninety-six samples of spore families, each comprising mycelia from six to 10 spores originating from single perithecia, were sampled from one Russian and six Fennoscandian forest sites. Allelic distribution was assayed for six nuclear gene loci by restriction enzyme analyses of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplified gene fragments. In addition, the full sequence of the gene fragment was analysed for a subset of haploid single-ascospore isolates in a multiallelic approach. A third data set was generated by using arbitrary-primed PCR with the core sequence of the phage M13 as primer. Although there was a reduction in heterozygosity in the total population from what would have been expected at random mating, the levels of genetic differentiation among the Eurasian subpopulations of D. loculata were low. All subpopulations were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and gametic equilibrium was observed between all investigated nuclear gene loci. The results obtained by the different markers were consistent; we confirmed low levels of genetic differentiation among the Eurasian subpopulations of D. loculata. The differentiation did not increase with distance; the Russian subpopulation, sampled more than 7000 km from the Fennoscandian subpopulations, was only moderately differentiated from the others (FST = 0.00-0.14). In contrast, one of the Swedish populations was the most highly differentiated from the others, with FST and GST values of 0.10-0.16. The results suggest that D. loculata consists of a long-lived background Eurasian population of latent mycelia in nonburned forests, established by sexual ascospores dispersed from scattered burned forest sites. Local differentiation is probably due to founder effects of populations in areas with low fire frequency. A tentative life cycle of D. loculata is presented.  相似文献

In 1986, the Russian wheat aphid, Diuraphis noxia (Kurdjumov) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), became an invasive species of United States. Nearly 20 yr later, new biotypes appeared that were capable of overcoming most sources of resistance and became a renewed threat to wheat, Triticum aestivum L., production. Cyclical (CP) and obligate (OP) parthenogenesis enables aphids to both adapt to changing environments and exploit host resources. We documented these forms of reproduction for Russian wheat aphid in wheat and wild grasses in the Central Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions during falls 2004-2009. Colonies from sample sites also were held under unheated greenhouse conditions and observed for the presence of sexual morphs and eggs through the winter. Russian wheat aphid populations were mainly OP and attempted to overwinter as adults, regardless of region sampled. A few populations contained oviparae but no males (gynocyclic) and were not specific to any particular region. Observation of the Russian wheat aphid colonies under greenhouse conditions failed to produce males or eggs. In spring 2007, CP was confirmed in a small population of Russian wheat aphid that eclosed from eggs (fundatricies) on wild grasses and wheat near Dove Creek, CO, in the Colorado Plateau region where other aphid species undergo CP. Lineages from ninety-three fundatricies were screened against 16 resistant and susceptible cereal entries to determine their biotypic classification. A high degree of biotypic diversity (41.4%) was detected in this population. Although CP was a rare in Russian wheat aphid populations, genetic recombination during the sexual cycle creates new biotypes and can have significant effects on population genetics.  相似文献

Morpho-physiological traits and variation of gene markers of 119 complete families from Russian migrant population inhabiting the Western area of Baikal-Amur Railway and 92 such families from Russian native population from the same area were compared. In migrant women body length was 2 cm higher and age of menarche was 8 months earlier than in native population. Average values of 5 anthropometric measurements of newborns in migrant population were higher than in native population. No significant differences in gene frequencies of 9 blood groups and proteins between these groups were found. Marked deficiency of observed heterozygosity (11%) was found in native population as consequence of the genetical drift.  相似文献

The analysis of 29 human cases of hydrophobia registered in the Russian Federation in 2000-2001 is presented. Dogs appeared to be the main infection source (50% of cases). An increased proportion of cats (17.3%) in the spread of the disease was noted. Among wild animals, the leading role of foxes in the spread of rabies virus was determined. A number of serious drawbacks in the organization of antirable service to the population, in particular, insufficient qualification of medical personnel, a low level of medical education among the population on the sources of infection, deviations from the rules of urgent notification presentation, etc. The conclusion was made on the necessity of improving the organization of antirabic services to the population.  相似文献

Conservation genetics is important in the management of endangered species, helping to understand their connectivity and long‐term viability, thus identifying populations of importance for conservation. The pond bat (Myotis dasycneme) is a rare species classified as “Near Threatened” with a wide but patchy Palearctic distribution. A total of 277 samples representing populations in Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Hungary, and Russia were used in the genetic analyses; 224 samples representing Denmark, Germany, and Russia were analyzed at 10 microsatellite loci; 241 samples representing all areas were analyzed using mitochondrial D‐loop and cytochrome B sequences. A Bayesian clustering approach revealed two poorly resolved clusters, one representing the Danish and German groups and the other the Russian group. However, significantly different pairwise FST and DEST estimates were observed between the Danish and German groups and between the Danish and Russian groups suggesting a recent population structure. These conflicting results might be attributed to the effect of migration or low resolution due to the number of microsatellite markers used. After concatenating the two mitochondrial sequences, analysis detected significant genetic differentiation between all populations, probably due to genetic drift combined with a founder event. The phylogenetic tree suggested a closer relationship between the Russian and Northern European populations compared to the Hungarian population, implying that the latter belongs to an older ancestral population. This was supported by the observed haplotype network and higher nucleotide diversity in this population. The genetic structuring observed in the Danish/German pond bat stresses the need for a cross‐border management between the two countries. Further, the pronounced mtDNA structuring, together with the indicated migration between nearby populations suggest philopatric female behavior but male migration, emphasizes the importance of protecting suitable habitat mosaics to maintain a continuum of patches with dense pond bat populations across the species' distribution range.  相似文献
