The objective of this study was to assess the familial aggregation of heart rate variability (HRV), a readily measurable noninvasive
reflection of cardiac autonomic function. Familial correlations were analyzed in 451 kibbutz members aged 15–97 years belonging
to 80 kindreds. Five-minute duration Holter recordings made during silent supine spontaneous breathing and metronomic breathing
were analyzed in the time and frequency domains. The present analysis considers the familial correlations and the heritability
estimates of two time-domain indices, the standard deviation (SD) of the R-R interval (RR), reflecting total variability,
and the root mean square of successive differences in RR intervals (RMSSD), reflecting vagal (parasympathetic) tone. During
free breathing, age- and sex-adjusted correlations between parents and their children (r=0.24 for both indices) and between adult siblings above 30 years of age (r=0.24 and r=0.34 for SD and RMSSD, respectively) were statistically significant, whereas spouse correlations (r=–0.04, r=–0.02 for SD and RMSSD, respectively) and correlations in younger siblings (r=–0.22 and r=0.01, respectively) were not. 2=0.39 for RMSSD). These findings suggest that familial aggregation of HRV characteristics is determined mostly by genetic
factors and less so by environmental factors and provide a basis for continuing the investigation into the underlying genetic
influences on HRV.

The following objectives were set out to study the effect of EEG α power increase training on the heart rate variability (HRV) as an index of the autonomic regulation of cognitive functions: (1) to establish the interrelation between a voluntary increase in the α power in the individual upper α band and the HRV and related characteristics of cognitive and emotional spheres; (2) to determine the nature of the relationship between the α-activity indices and HRV depending on the resting α-frequency EEG pattern; and (3) to study how the individual α-frequency EEG pattern is reflected in the HRV changes as a result of biofeedback training. Psychometric indices of cognitive performance and the characteristics of EEG α activity and HRV were recorded in 27 healthy men 18–34 years of age before, during, and after ten training sessions of a voluntary increase in α power in the individual upper α band with the eyes closed. To determine the biofeedback effect in the α power increase training, the data of two groups were compared: the experimental, with a real biofeedback (14 subjects), and the control, with a sham biofeedback (13 subjects). The follow-up effect of the training was assessed one month after its end. The results showed that α biofeedback training increased the resting α frequency, improved cognitive performance, reduced psychoemotional stress, and increased HRV only in the subjects with a low baseline α frequency. In the subjects with a high baseline resting α frequency, the α biofeedback training had no effect on the resting α power and cognitive performance but reduced the HRV (judging by the pNN 50 parameter). The positive correlation between the α peak frequency and HRV in subjects with initially low α frequency and the negative correlation in the subjects with a high baseline α frequency explains the opposite biofeedback effects on HRV in subjects with low and high α frequency. From the theoretical standpoint, the results of this study contribute to understanding the mechanisms of heart-brain neurovisceral relationships and their effect on the cognitive performance. From the applied standpoint, they suggest that EEG biofeedback can be used for improving autonomic regulation in healthy subjects and the development of individual approaches to the development of the biofeedback technology, which can be used both in clinical practice for treatment and rehabilitation of psychosomatic syndromes and in educational training. 相似文献

Previous studies have indicated that heart rate variability (HRV) is considered to be one of the effective parameters for assessing autonomous nervous system activity. Therefore, HRV can be used to detect the state of patients during surgery, even for estimating depth of anaesthesia (DOA). However, the heartbeat can be affected by anaesthesia drugs, breathing rate and electric influence during surgery, which can result in inaccurate information about the patient. To contend with this problem, blood flow variability (BFV) is proposed in this paper as an indicator to monitor the patient's status when HRV is not appropriate. In our experiments, thirty patients undergoing ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery with different anaesthetics are used to compare the efficiency and validity between the fast Fourier transform (FFT) and the Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT). Of another thirty patients, twenty patients accepted ENT surgery, of which ten have received Atropine, while the others have not. The other ten patients who have accepted abdominal surgery with an electric knife were compared with the previously mentioned ten patients who did not receive an Atropine injection for ENT surgery. As a result, the FFT that is applied in this study was replaced with the HHT for analysing the data in a particular frequency range of sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions, because of the lesser response of the results that were analysed by FFT for intubation. Also, BFV is proven to be a useful indicator for assisting doctors to assess the state of the patients instead of HRV during the operation in comparison with HRV under drugs (i.e., Atropine and Glycopyrrolate) and diathermy effects (i.e., high frequency interference from electric knife). 相似文献

Forest density expressing the stocking status constitutes the major stand physiognomic parameter of Indian forest. Density
and age are often taken as surrogate to structural and compositional changes that occur with the forest succession. Satellite
remote sensing spectral response is reported to provide information on structure and composition of forest stands. The various
vegetation indices are also correlated with forest canopy closure. The paper presents a three way crown density model utilizing
the vegetation indices viz., advanced vegetation index, bare soil index and canopy shadow index for classification of forest
crown density. The crop and water classes which could not be delineated by the model were finally masked from normalized difference
vegetation index and TM band 7 respectively. The rule based approach has been implemented for land use and forest density
classification. The broad land cover classification accuracy has been found to be 91.5%. In the higher forest density classes
the classification accuracy ranged between 93 and 95%, whereas in the lower density classes it was found to be between 82

The study reports a mathematical method for deciding which clinical data are of importance for treatment decisions in a given clinical setting. The method comprises the following steps: (A) the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) functions of the compared sets of data are computed; (B) the design and aim of the clinical study is expressed as an integral measure on the space of sensitivity values (this reflects the preference of low or high sensitivity values dependent on the clinical targets); (C) the sets of data being compared are characterised by the non-linear integrals of their ROC functions. The approach has been used to compare mean heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) data calculated in 5113 different portions of 24-h ECG recordings and assessed in 365 patients surviving acute myocardial infarction, in order to evaluate the utility of Holter recording of varying lengths and starting times for the prediction of sudden cardiac death and/or serious arrhythmic events. The results of the study show that this approach is capable of evaluating and comparing the sets of medical data used for identification of patients who are at increased risk. The experimental part of the study showed that the optimum recording interval for the assessment of HR and HRV data in patients who survived acute myocardial infarction depends on the aim of the identification of increased risk patients. The optimum interval of recording is different for an identification which requires a low number of false negative cases and permits a higher number of false positive cases, than for the situation where a low number of false positive cases are required and a higher number of false negative cases are permissible. 相似文献

employed to assess industrial trend in the research and innovation process of Plant Molecular Farming within national and
international context. The US Patent and Trade Organization (USPTO), the European Patent Office (EPO) issued a total of 585
patents covering Plant Molecular Farming from 2002 through 2006. By nationality, US inventors predominated as recipients of
PMF patents, followed by Germany, Denmark, and Japan. The PMF patents were catagorized in five major areas of research namely
pharmaceutical and nutraceuticals with 170 patents (31%) and plant expression tools and methods for alternative production
systems with 169 patents (29%) were the dominating patent applications, followed by 102 patent claims associated with antibodies
(17%), 71 patents of industrial molecules (12%), 48 patents of vaccines (8%), and finally 18 patents related to post-translational
protein glycosylation (3%). The greatest proportion of patentees was of US origin (52%), and PMF associated patenting activities
at the USPTO and EPO were dominated with 67% by private organizations.

We aimed to investigate difference in the effects of water and a liquid nutritional meal on the parasympathetic and gastric myoelectrical activities. The study was a repeated-measures design in which each subject was presented with 500 ml of water and a liquid nutritional meal (Ensure) on two separate and random sessions. The electrogastrography (EGG) and electrocardiogram were simultaneously recorded in 16 healthy subjects. There were no significant changes in the EGG-3 cycle per minute (cpm) power, any HRV variable, or the transfer function magnitude after Ensure intake. Water ingestion resulted in a significant increase in both the EGG-3 cpm power and the transfer magnitude compared to Ensure intake (P < 0.05). The effects of water and Ensure on the parasympathetic and gastric electric activities are different, in which the latter is less likely to provoke an autonomic response after gastric stimulation. 相似文献

光谱特征变量的筛选作为水生植物识别的重要手段之一, 在水生植物种类识别研究中应用广泛。该研究将实测光谱特征提取与多时相Landsat 8 OLI影像数据分析相结合, 找到一种有效识别不同种类水生植物的特征变量。在水生植物反射光谱特征分析中引入矿质分析中普遍使用的连续统去除法, 对光谱重采样结果作连续统去除处理后提取光谱吸收深度特征。采用单因素方差分析法对比7个光谱重采样波段和3个连续统去除吸收深度敏感波段, 发现经连续统去除处理的短波红外1波段(SWIR1CR)对于不同类型的水生植物区分效果最佳。将连续统去除法应用到遥感影像处理上, 发现SWIR1CR波段能较好区分沉水植物和挺水植物; 结合影像归一化植被指数和SWIR1CR波段可较好区分三类水生植物。结合特征波段筛选结果采用支持向量机分类方法, 得到水生植物的分类结果精度为86.33%, 对比全生长期12期影像提取的水生植物分布图, 发现水生植物主要分布于官厅水库库区南北岸浅水区, 水生植物面积最大时约占库区总面积的35.13%; 其中沉水植物年内生长分布变化幅度较大, 6月上旬开始迅速生长; 10月份水生植物开始衰减; 11月份水生植物占库区面积的20%, 沉水、浮水植物大幅衰减消失。 相似文献

Incidence of cardiovascular events follows a circadian rhythm with peak occurrence during morning. Disturbance of autonomic control caused by exercise had raised the question of the safety in morning exercise and its recovery. Furthermore, we sought to investigate whether light aerobic exercise performed at night would increase HR and decrease HRV during sleep. Therefore, the aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that morning exercise would delay HR and HRV recovery after light aerobic exercise, additionally, we tested the impact of late night light aerobic exercise on HR and HRV during sleep in sedentary subjects. Nine sedentary healthy men (age 24 ± 3 yr; height 180 ± 5 cm; weight 79 ± 8 kg; fat 12 ± 3%; mean±SD) performed 35 min of cycling exercise, at an intensity of first anaerobic threshold, at three times of day (7 a.m., 2 p.m. and 11 p.m.). R-R intervals were recorded during exercise and during short-time (60 min) and long-time recovery (24 hours) after cycling exercise. Exercise evoked increase in HR and decrease in HRV, and different times of day did not change the magnitude (p < 0.05 for time). Morning exercise did not delay exercise recovery, HR was similar to rest after 15 minutes recovery and HRV was similar to rest after 30 minutes recovery at morning, afternoon, and night. Low frequency power (LF) in normalized unites (n.u.) decreased during recovery when compared to exercise, but was still above resting values after 60 minutes of recovery. High frequency power (HF-n.u.) increased after exercise cessation (p < 0.05 for time) and was still below resting values after 60 minutes of recovery. The LF/HF ratio decreased after exercise cessation (p < 0.05 for time), but was still different to baseline levels after 60 minutes of recovery. In conclusion, morning exercise did not delay HR and HRV recovery after light aerobic cycling exercise in sedentary subjects. Additionally, exercise performed in the night did change autonomic control during the sleep. So, it seems that sedentary subjects can engage physical activity at any time of day without higher risk. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether image analysis of routine hematoxylin-eosin (H-E) skin sections using fast Fourier transformation (FFT) could detect structural alterations in patients with Sj?gren-Larsson syndrome (SLS) diagnosed by molecular biology. STUDY DESIGN: Skin punch biopsies of 9 patients with SLS and 17 healthy volunteers were obtained. Digital images of routine histologic sections were taken, and their gray scale luminance was analyzed by FFT. The inertia values were determined for different ranges of the spatial frequencies in the vertical and horizontal direction. To get an estimation of anisotropy, we calculated the resultant vector of the designated frequency ranges. RESULTS: In the prickle cell layer, SLS patients showed more intense amplitudes in spatial structures with periods between 1.2 and 3.6 microm in the vertical direction, which correlated in part with accentuated nuclei and nucleoli and perinucleolar halos in the H-E sections. In a linear discriminant analysis, the variables derived from the FFT images correctly discriminated 84.6% of the patients. Texture features derived from the gray level cooccurrence matrix were not able to separate the groups. CONCLUSION: Exploratory texture analysis by FFT was able to detect discrete alterations in the prickle cell layer in routine light microscopy slides of SLS patients. The structural changes identified by FFT may be related to abnormal cellular components associated with aberrant lipid metabolism. 相似文献

Biodiversity is believed to be low in regions with vegetation that has adapted to water stress. Additionally, there is little interest by authorities in establishing and expanding conservation units in these areas. In Brazil, the Caatinga and the Cerrado biomes comprise this xerophilous vegetation. In both, climate is tropical and the dry season is long and well-defined. The Caatinga is the Brazilian biome with the smallest area protected by conservation units. This study evaluates the efficacy of conservation units in the Caatinga biome based on abundance and richness of drosophilids. Flies were collected inside and outside these areas. In total, approximately 23,000 flies of 32 species were collected in six conservation and six non-conservation sites. Two non-described species occurred exclusively inside protected areas, underlining the importance of conservation efforts in the maintenance of biodiversity. Other species were recorded exclusively outside conservation areas, which emphasizes the importance of establishing and expanding conservation units in the Caatinga. Native species were significantly more abundant inside conservation units, though the richness was similar in protected and non-protected areas. Abundance of exotic species outside conservation areas was statistically different in comparison with that of native ones. 相似文献

For our study of the Chenopodium album aggregate, we selected those species of Euroasiatic origin that represent the diploid–polyploid complex in Central Europe: C. album (6x), C. ficifolium (2x), C. opulifolium (6x), C. striatiforme (4x), C. strictum (4x) and C. suecicum (2x). We especially focused on (a) the origin of polyploid species and (b) the frequency of hybridization between species with different ploidy levels. We did not find any direct evidence of the existence of hybrids between two species with different ploidy levels within the C. album group. The sample/standard ratio of tetraploid and hexaploid species does not equal multiples of that of diploid species, which suggests that (i) tetraploids are not diploid autopolyploids and that (ii) hexaploids have not evolved from diploid species alone. Moreover, we have not found any hybrid plant either in the field or even in the offspring resulting from our experimental crosses. In view of these results, we adhere to the opinion that Chenopodium species do not hybridize freely across ploidy levels. Our analysis of DNA amounts, however, suggests that C. album is an allopolyploid that has arisen by hybridization between a diploid and a tetraploid species the identity of which is unknown. 相似文献

Global warming intensifies the hydrological cycle, which results in changes in precipitation regime (frequency and amount), and will likely have significant impacts on soil respiration (Rs). Although the responses of Rs to changes in precipitation amount have been extensively studied, there is little consensus on how Rs will be affected by changes in precipitation frequency (PF) across the globe. Here, we synthesized the field observations from 296 published papers to quantify the effects of PF on Rs and its components using meta-analysis. Our results indicated that the effects of PF on Rs decreased with an increase in background mean annual precipitation. When the data were grouped by climate conditions, increased PF showed positive effects on Rs under the arid condition but not under the semi-humid or humid conditions, whereas decreased PF suppressed Rs across all the climate conditions. The positive effects of increased PF mainly resulted from the positive response of heterotrophic respiration under the arid condition while the negative effects of decreased PF were mainly attributed to the reductions in root biomass and respiration. Overall, our global synthesis provided for the first time a comprehensive analysis of the divergent effects of PF on Rs and its components across climate regions. This study also provided a framework for understanding and modeling responses of ecosystem carbon cycling to global precipitation change. 相似文献

A polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP)-based method for species identification was applied to seven Japanese Lymantria species, including four Asian gypsy moth (AGM) species. We sequenced the partial end of the cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene, tRNA leucine, COII gene, and partial end of the tRNA lysine in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) for one individual of each of the seven species. We analyzed the recognition sites of three restriction endonucleases and constructed a scheme for Lymantria species identification using PCR–RFLP. We then applied the scheme to 291 individuals from 45 populations of seven species. We found that all seven species were correctly identified using PCR–RFLP. These results suggest that PCR–RFLP is useful for identifying Japanese Lymantria species, which may be detected at Japanese ports. 相似文献

Integrative analyses of multiple gene expression studies are frequently performed. In the setting of two studies, integrative correlation (IGC) can be used to assess the consistency of co-expression of a given gene. For three or more studies, an extension of IGC gives a global score per gene. We propose to extend IGC and use factor analysis to assess the study-specific consistency of co-expression of genes when there are three or more studies, possibly on different platforms. Our method is able to identify studies whose expression patterns are different from others. Filtering genes based on our score is shown to improve the concordance of association with phenotype across studies. 相似文献
