Feed-forward and feedback mechanisms are both important for control of the heart rate response to muscular exercise, but their origin and relative importance remain inadequately understood. To evaluate whether humoral mechanisms are of importance, the heart rate response to electrically induced cycling was studied in participants with spinal cord injury (SCI) and compared with that elicited during volitional cycling in able-bodied persons (C). During voluntary exercise at an oxygen uptake of approximately 1 l/min, heart rate increased from 66 +/- 4 to 86 +/- 4 (SE) beats/min in seven C, and during electrically induced exercise at a similar oxygen uptake in SCI it increased from 73 +/- 3 to 110 +/- 8 beats/min. In contrast, blood pressure increased only in C (from 88 +/- 3 to 99 +/- 4 mmHg), confirming that, during exercise, blood pressure control is dominated by peripheral neural feedback mechanisms. With vascular occlusion of the legs, the exercise-induced increase in heart rate was reduced or even eliminated in the electrically stimulated SCI. For C, heart rate tended to be lower than during exercise with free circulation to the legs. Release of the cuff elevated heart rate only in SCI. These data suggest that humoral feedback is of importance for the heart rate response to exercise and especially so when influence from the central nervous system and peripheral neural feedback from the working muscles are impaired or eliminated during electrically induced exercise in individuals with SCI.  相似文献

Previous studies of contracting muscle with low loading and partial vascular occlusion demonstrated hypertrophy and strength adaptations similar to and exceeding those observed with traditional moderate to high resistance (Shinohara M, Kouzaki M, Yoshihisa T, and Fukunaga T. Eur J Physiol 77: 189-191, 1998; Takarada Y, Takazawa H, Sato Y, Takebayashi S, Tanaka Y, and Ishii N. J Appl Physiol 88: 2097-2106, 2000; Takarada Y, Sato Y, and Ishii N. Eur J Physiol 86: 308-314, 2002). The purpose of the study was to determine the anabolic and catabolic hormone responses to light resistance exercise combined with partial vascular occlusion. Three experimental conditions of light resistance with partial occlusion (LRO), moderate resistance with no occlusion (MR), and partial occlusion without exercise (OO) were performed by eight healthy subjects [mean 21 yr (SD 1.8)]. Three sets of single-arm biceps curls and single-leg calf presses were completed to failure with 1-min interset rest periods. Workloads of 30 and 70% one repetition maximum for each exercise were lifted for the LRO and MR trials, respectively. Blood samples were taken preexercise, postexercise, and 15 min postexercise for each experimental condition. Lactate increased significantly in the LRO and MR trials and was not significantly different from each other at any time point. Growth hormone (GH) increased significantly by fourfold from pre- to postexercise in the LRO session but did not change significantly during this time period in the MR and OO trials (8.3 +/- 2.3 vs. 2.1 +/- 1.2 and 2.6 +/- 0.94 microg/l; respectively, P < 0.05). There were no changes in resting total testosterone [T; mean 15.7 +/- 1.6 (SE) nmol/l], free testosterone (FT; 54.1 +/- 4.5 pmol/l), or cortisol (267.6 +/- 22 nmol/l) across all trials and times. In conclusion, with similar lactate responses, light exercise combined with partial vascular occlusion elicits a greater GH response than moderate exercise without occlusion but does not affect T, FT, or cortisol.  相似文献

Strength training with low load under conditions of vascular occlusion has been proposed as an alternative to heavy-resistance exercise in the rehabilitation setting, when large forces acting upon the musculoskeletal system are unwanted. Little is known, however, about the relative intensity at which occlusion of blood flow significantly reduces dynamic muscular endurance and, hence, when it may increase the training effect. The purpose of this study was to investigate endurance during dynamic knee extension at different loads with and without cuff occlusion. Sixteen subjects (20-45 years of age) with strength-training experience were recruited. At 4 test sessions, the subjects performed unilateral knee extensions to failure with and without a pressure cuff around the thigh at 20, 30, 40, and 50% of their 1 repetition maximum (1RM). The pressure cuff was inflated to 200 mm Hg during exercise with occlusion. Significant differences in the number of repetitions performed were found between occluded and nonoccluded conditions for loads of 20, 30, and 40% of 1RM (p < 0.01) but not for the 50% load (p = 0.465). Thus, the application of a pressure cuff around the thigh appears to reduce dynamic knee extension endurance more at a low load than at a moderate load. These results may have implications regarding when it could be useful to apply a tourniquet in order to increase the rate of fatigue and perhaps also the resulting training effect. However, the short- and long-term safety of training under ischemic conditions needs to be addressed in both healthy and less healthy populations. Furthermore, the high acute pain ratings and the delayed-onset muscle soreness associated with this type of training may limit its potential use to highly motivated individuals.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of low-intensity resistance exercise training on muscular size and strength where the interset rest period was shortened so as to reduce the metabolite clearance. Female subjects (aged 45.4 +/- 9.5 years, n = 10) performed bilateral knee extension exercises in a seated position on an isotonic leg extension machine. The exercise sessions consisted of 3 sets of exercise at a mean intensity of approximately 50% 1RM with an interset rest period of 30 seconds and was performed twice a week for a period of 12 weeks. The strength and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the knee extensors and flexors were examined with an isokinetic dynamometer and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), respectively. The CSAs of the knee extensors and flexors increased by 7.1 +/- 1.6% (p < 0.01, Wilcoxon signed rank test) and 2.5 +/- 1.4% (not significant), respectively. Isometric and isokinetic strengths increased significantly (p < 0.01) at all velocities examined, whereas no significant change was observed in those of knee flexors. These results indicate that a low-intensity resistance exercise with a short interset rest period is substantially effective in inducing muscular hypertrophy and concomitant increase in strength.  相似文献

We investigated the acute and long-term effects of low-intensity resistance exercise (knee extension) with slow movement and tonic force generation on muscular size and strength. This type of exercise was expected to enhance the intramuscular hypoxic environment that might be a factor for muscular hypertrophy. Twenty-four healthy young men without experience of regular exercise training were assigned into three groups (n = 8 for each) and performed the following resistance exercise regimens: low-intensity [ approximately 50% of one-repetition maximum (1RM)] with slow movement and tonic force generation (3 s for eccentric and concentric actions, 1-s pause, and no relaxing phase; LST); high-intensity ( approximately 80% 1RM) with normal speed (1 s for concentric and eccentric actions, 1 s for relaxing; HN); low-intensity with normal speed (same intensity as for LST and same speed as for HN; LN). In LST and HN, the mean repetition maximum was 8RM. In LN, both intensity and amount of work were matched with those for LST. Each exercise session consisting of three sets was performed three times a week for 12 wk. In LST and HN, exercise training caused significant (P < 0.05) increases in cross-sectional area determined with MRI and isometric strength (maximal voluntary contraction) of the knee extensors, whereas no significant changes were seen in LN. Electromyographic and near-infrared spectroscopic analyses showed that one bout of LST causes sustained muscular activity and the largest muscle deoxygenation among the three types of exercise. The results suggest that intramuscular oxygen environment is important for exercise-induced muscular hypertrophy.  相似文献

Hormonal and inflammatory responses to low-intensity resistance exercise with vascular occlusion were studied. Subjects (n = 6) performed bilateral leg extension exercise in the seated position, with the proximal end of their thigh compressed at 214 +/- 7.7 (SE) mmHg throughout the session of exercise by means of a pressure tourniquet. Mean intensity and quantity of the exercise were 20% of 1 repetition maximum and 14 repetitions x 5 sets, respectively. In each set, the subjects repeated the movement until exhaustion. Plasma concentrations of growth hormone (GH), norepinephrine (NE), lacate (La), lipid peroxide (LP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and activity of creatine phosphokinase (CPK) were measured before and after the exercise was finished and the tourniquet was released. Concentrations of GH, NE, and La consistently showed marked, transient increases after the exercise with occlusion, whereas they did not change a great deal after the exercise without occlusion (control) done at the same intensity and quantity. Notably, concentration of GH reached a level approximately 290 times as high as that of the resting level 15 min after the exercise. IL-6 concentration showed a much more gradual increase and was maintained at a slightly higher level than in the control even 24 h after exercise. Concentrations of LP and CPK showed no significant change. The results suggest that extremely light resistance exercise combined with occlusion greatly stimulates the secretion of GH through regional accumulation of metabolites without considerable tissue damage.  相似文献

Effects of exercise on maximal instantaneous muscular power of humans   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The maximal instantaneous anaerobic power (w), as determined during a high jump off both feet on a force platform, was measured on eight subjects starting from a resting base line; a base line of steady-state cycloergometric exercise requiring 30, 50, and 70% of individual maximum O2 consumption (VO2max); and a base line of maximal and supramaximal exercise (100 and 120% of VO2max). In addition, w was also measured during the VO2 transients from rest to each of the above work loads. Blood lactate concentration ([Lab]) was determined before and 8 min after the end of each priming load. After the onset of any priming load, w decreases with time reaching in 2 min a steady level that is lower the higher the VO2. For the three lowest work rates, the steady w level is unchanged by increasing the duration of the priming exercise up to 30 min. For low work levels, the decrease of w as a function of VO2 is essentially parallel to that of estimated muscle concentration of ATP ([ATP]). For work levels greater than 60% of VO2max involving a substantial accumulation of lactate, the decrease of w becomes smaller than the estimated drop of muscle [ATP]. This finding is tentatively attributed to an increase of either the mechanical equivalent or of the velocity constant of ATP splitting brought about by the lowering of intracellular muscle pH after lactate accumulation.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Sympathetic neural discharge and vascular resistance during exercise in humans   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between changes in efferent muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) to the lower leg and calf vascular resistance (CVR) during isometric exercise in humans. We made intraneural (microneurographic) determinations of MSNA in the right leg (peroneal nerve) while simultaneously measuring calf blood flow to the left leg, arterial pressure, and heart rate in 10 subjects before (control), during, and after (recovery) isometric handgrip exercise performed for 2.5 min at 15, 25, and 35% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). Heart rate and arterial pressure increased above control within the initial 30 s of handgrip at all levels, and the magnitudes of the increases at end contraction were proportional to the intensity of the exercise. In general, neither MSNA nor CVR increased significantly above control levels during handgrip at 15% MVC. Similarly, neither variable increased above control during the initial 30 s of handgrip at 25 and 35% MVC; however, during the remainder of the contraction period, progressive, parallel increases were observed in MSNA and CVR (P less than 0.05). The correlation coefficients relating changes in MSNA to changes in CVR for the individual subjects averaged 0.63 +/- 0.07 (SE) (range 0.30-0.91) and 0.94 +/- 0.06 (range 0.80-0.99) for the 25 and 35% MVC levels, respectively. During recovery, both MSNA and CVR returned rapidly toward control levels. These findings demonstrate that muscle sympathetic nerve discharge and vascular resistance in the lower leg are tightly coupled during and after isometric arm exercise in humans. Furthermore, the exercise-induced adjustments in the two variables are both contraction intensity and time dependent.  相似文献

Exercise training of a muscle group improves local vascular function in subjects with chronic heart failure (CHF). We studied forearm resistance vessel function in 12 patients with CHF in response to an 8-wk exercise program, which specifically excluded forearm exercise, using a crossover design. Forearm blood flow (FBF) was measured using strain-gauge plethysmography. Responses to three dose levels of intra-arterial acetylcholine were significantly augmented after exercise training when analyzed in terms of absolute flows (7.0 +/- 1.8 to 10.9 +/- 2.1 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1) for the highest dose, P < 0.05 by ANOVA), forearm vascular resistance (21.5 +/- 5.0 to 15.3 +/- 3.9 ml x 100 ml forearm(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.01), or FBF ratios (P < 0.01, ANOVA). FBF ratio responses to sodium nitroprusside were also significantly increased after training (P < 0.05, ANOVA). Reactive hyperemic flow significantly increased in both upper limbs after training (27.9 +/- 2.7 to 33.5 +/- 3.1 ml x 100 ml(-1) x min(-1), infused limb; P < 0.05 by paired t-test). Exercise training improves endothelium-dependent and -independent vascular function and peak vasodilator capacity in patients with CHF. These effects on the vasculature are generalized, as they were evident in a vascular bed not directly involved in the exercise stimulus.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle strengthening exercise using elastic thera-band and aquatic aerobic combined exercise on metabolic syndrome index in elderly with metabolic syndrome. Fifty-four were assigned to muscle strengthening exercise group (n = 19), aquatic aerobic exercise group (n = 19), and combined exercise group (n = 16). The muscle strength exercise, aquatic aerobic exercise and combined exercise were provided three times a week for 12 weeks. Metabolic syndrome indices[Fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and waist circumference] were measured before and after the program. One-way ANOVA, paired t-test and two-way repeated ANOVA were used with the SPSS program for data analysis. There was a significant difference in triglyceride (p < .001), HDL-C (p = .010) and waist circumference (p = .016). Triglyceride and waist circumference was significantly decreased in combined group than muscle strength exercise group and aquatic exercise group. HDL-C was significantly increased in combined group than muscle strength exercise group. The results indicate that combined exercise was more effective in the improvement of dyslipidemia and abdominal obesity.  相似文献

Intestinal absorption was measured in six trained male cyclists during rest, exercise, and recovery periods with the segmental perfusion technique. Each subject passed a multilumen tube into the duodenojejunum. The experiments consisted of 1) a sequence of 1-h bouts of cycling exercise at 30, 50, and 70% maximal O2 uptake (Vo2max) separated by 1-h rest periods or 2) a 90-min bout at 70% VO2max. The cycling was performed on a constant-load Velodyne trainer. Absorption of water and a 6% carbohydrate-electrolyte (2% glucose, 6% sucrose, 20 meq Na+, 2.6 meq K+) solution (both perfused at 15 ml/min) were compared. The effects of perfusing an isotonic electrolyte solution during mild (30% VO2max) exercise were also studied. Fluid was sampled every 10 min from ports 10 and 50 cm distal to the infusion site. Water flux was determined by differences in polyethylene glycol concentration across the 40-cm test segment. Results showed 1) no difference in water or electrolyte absorption rates among rest, exercise, and recovery periods; 2) no difference in absorption rates among the three exercise intensities or different exercise durations; and 3) significantly greater fluid absorption rates from the carbohydrate-electrolyte (CE) solution than from water. Water flux during rest, exercise, and recovery was about sixfold greater from the CE solution than from the isotonic solution without carbohydrate. We conclude that 1) exercise has no effect on water or solute absorption in the duodenojejunum, 2) fluid absorption occurs significantly faster from a CE solution than from water, and 3) fluid absorption is increased sixfold by addition of carbohydrate to an electrolyte solution.  相似文献

In this study we investigated the effects of underwater exercise in warm water (34 degrees C) on physiological and psychological relaxation. Eight healthy young men (aged 20-26 years) volunteered for the experiment. The experiment consisted of the following three successive segments: a pre-exercise period of 20 min, during which the subjects rested in a semi-supine posture with their eyes closed for the final 10 min; an underwater exercise period of approximately 60 min, during which the subjects performed gymnastic exercises or aerobic dancing with occasional movements or jumping; a post-exercise recovery of 20 min, which was similar to the pre-exercise rest period. We compared the relative power values (power %) of the electroencephalogram alpha bands (8-13 Hz) and profile of moods states (POMS) before and after the underwater exercise. We also estimated the percentage of maximal heart rate (%HRmax) throughout the experiment to ascertain the intensity of the underwater exercise. The results of %HRmax indicated that the intensity of underwater exercises practised in the experiments ranged from low to moderate. The power % of EEG alpha bands had increased significantly after the underwater exercise compared with the pre-exercise rest (P<0.05). From the POMS results, we observed that positive mood (vigour) increased and negative mood (tension and anxiety, depression and dejection) decreased significantly after the underwater exercise (P<0.05). This study found that the subjects showed increased physiological and psychological indices of relaxation after underwater exercise.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of heavy-intensity warm-up exercise on O(2) uptake (VO(2)) kinetics at the onset of moderate-intensity (80% ventilation threshold), constant-work rate exercise in eight older (65 +/- 2 yr) and seven younger adults (26 +/- 1 yr). Step increases in work rate from loadless cycling to moderate exercise (Mod(1)), heavy exercise, and moderate exercise (Mod(2)) were performed. Each exercise bout was 6 min in duration and separated by 6 min of loadless cycling. VO(2) kinetics were modeled from the onset of exercise by use of a two-component exponential model. Heart rate (HR) kinetics were modeled from the onset of exercise using a single exponential model. During Mod(1), the time constant (tau) for the predominant rise in VO(2) (tau VO(2)) was slower (P < 0.05) in the older adults (50 +/- 10 s) than in young adults (19 +/- 5 s). The older adults demonstrated a speeding (P < 0.05) of VO(2) kinetics when moderate-intensity exercise (Mod(2)) was preceded by high-intensity warm-up exercise (tau VO(2), 27 +/- 3 s), whereas young adults showed no speeding of VO(2) kinetics (tau VO(2), 17 +/- 3 s). In the older and younger adults, baseline HR preceding Mod(2) was elevated compared with Mod(1), but the tau for HR kinetics was slowed (P < 0.05) in Mod(2) only for the older adults. Prior heavy-intensity exercise in old, but not young, adults speeded VO(2) kinetics during Mod(2). Despite slowed HR kinetics in Mod(2) in the older adults, an elevated baseline HR before the onset of Mod(2) may have led to sufficient muscle perfusion and O(2) delivery. These results suggest that, when muscle blood flow and O(2) delivery are adequate, muscle O(2) consumption in both old and young adults is limited by intracellular processes within the exercising muscle.  相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of low-load resistance training with vascular occlusion on the specific tension and tendon properties by comparing with those of high-load training. Nine participants completed 12 weeks (3 days/week) of a unilateral isotonic training program on knee extensors. One leg was trained using low load (20% of 1 RM) with vascular occlusion (LLO) and other leg using high load (80% of 1 RM) without vascular occlusion (HL). Before and after training, maximal isometric knee extension torque (MVC) and muscle volume were measured. Specific tension of vastus lateralis muscle (VL) was calculated from MVC, muscle volume, and muscle architecture measurements. Stiffness of tendon-aponeurosis complex in VL was measured using ultrasonography during isometric knee extension. Both protocols significantly increased MVC and muscle volume of quadriceps femoris muscle. Specific tension of VL increased significantly 5.5% for HL, but not for LLO. The LLO protocol did not alter the stiffness of tendon-aponeurosis complex in knee extensors, while the HL protocol increased it significantly. The present study demonstrated that the specific tension and tendon properties were found to remain following low-load resistance training with vascular occlusion, whereas they increased significantly after high-load training.  相似文献

Effects of graded supine dynamic exercise (30, 60, and 80-90% of maximal physical capacity, i.e., work loads of 69, 132, and 188 W) on renal vascular resistance (RVR); renal sympathetic nerve activity [assessed by the renal venous overflow of norepinephrine (NE)]; renal overflows of dopamine (DA), immunoreactive neuropeptide Y (NPY-LI), and renin; as well as plasma concentrations of angiotensin-(1-8)-octapeptide (ANG II) were evaluated in eight healthy male volunteers. Exercise evoked stimulus-dependent and marked elevations of RVR, arterial NE, epinephrine (Epi), and DA. RVR increased by 140% and the renal overflows of NE and DA increased by 1,331 and 179%, respectively, at 188 W. A net removal of NPY-LI at rest turned into a small net renal overflow, which correlated with increases in RVR at 188 W. Increases in renin release (+1,200% at 188 W) correlated with increases in renal NE and DA overflows and with arterial Epi levels. Arterial ANG II levels increased stimulus dependently (by 264% at 188 W) and correlated more closely with increases in RVR than did other variables. Thus dynamic exercise is a potent stimulus for renal nerve activation in humans, and renal sympathetic nerve activity may contribute to increased RVR both directly (NE and, at exhaustive work loads, possibly NPY) and indirectly (via renin-mediated ANG II formation).  相似文献
