The following objectives were set out to study the effect of EEG α power increase training on the heart rate variability (HRV) as an index of the autonomic regulation of cognitive functions: (1) to establish the interrelation between a voluntary increase in the α power in the individual upper α band and the HRV and related characteristics of cognitive and emotional spheres; (2) to determine the nature of the relationship between the α-activity indices and HRV depending on the resting α-frequency EEG pattern; and (3) to study how the individual α-frequency EEG pattern is reflected in the HRV changes as a result of biofeedback training. Psychometric indices of cognitive performance and the characteristics of EEG α activity and HRV were recorded in 27 healthy men 18–34 years of age before, during, and after ten training sessions of a voluntary increase in α power in the individual upper α band with the eyes closed. To determine the biofeedback effect in the α power increase training, the data of two groups were compared: the experimental, with a real biofeedback (14 subjects), and the control, with a sham biofeedback (13 subjects). The follow-up effect of the training was assessed one month after its end. The results showed that α biofeedback training increased the resting α frequency, improved cognitive performance, reduced psychoemotional stress, and increased HRV only in the subjects with a low baseline α frequency. In the subjects with a high baseline resting α frequency, the α biofeedback training had no effect on the resting α power and cognitive performance but reduced the HRV (judging by the pNN 50 parameter). The positive correlation between the α peak frequency and HRV in subjects with initially low α frequency and the negative correlation in the subjects with a high baseline α frequency explains the opposite biofeedback effects on HRV in subjects with low and high α frequency. From the theoretical standpoint, the results of this study contribute to understanding the mechanisms of heart-brain neurovisceral relationships and their effect on the cognitive performance. From the applied standpoint, they suggest that EEG biofeedback can be used for improving autonomic regulation in healthy subjects and the development of individual approaches to the development of the biofeedback technology, which can be used both in clinical practice for treatment and rehabilitation of psychosomatic syndromes and in educational training.  相似文献

The applicability and efficiency of the electroencephalogram (EEG)-based method of biofeedback (BFB) training in correcting functional disorders in pregnancy have been evaluated in an obstetric/gynecological clinic in 65 pregnant women. Each of them took part in 2–12 examinations, which differed in voluntarily regulated EEG rhythm (a decrease in the θ, an increase in the α, or a decrease in the β rhythm), left-or right-hemispheric location of the EEG derivations, and the duration of the delay (3 or 30 s) of auditory feedback stimuli. As compared to the baseline, the most distinct and significant changes were observed in the α and θ rhythms during medical procedures, testifying to a general relaxing effect of the EEG BFB. The greatest number of successful trials (83.3 ± 4.4%) was observed for the BFB sessions aimed at decreasing the θ activity, and the lowest number (32.0 ± 6.7%), for the attempts at decreasing the EEG β rhythm. Voluntary control of the α rhythm of the EEG yielded a moderate number of successful trials (63.7 ± 5.3%), but it was characterized by the lowest efficiency (demonstrating minimal differences in positive changes in the functional state between successful and unsuccessful trials). The comparatively low effectiveness of voluntary BFB control of the α rhythm may have been determined by its high heterogeneity and suggests the necessity of using more narrowband EEG components in BFB sessions.  相似文献

The results of the EEG study of patients with tumor lesion of diencephalic (29 subjects) and limbic (25 subjects) structures with the focus on the analysis of structural and functional organization of α activity have been summarized. It has been found that diencephalic structure dysfunction is accompanied by disorder of α-rhythm spatial organization in the form of generalization or translocation of its focus to the frontal regions of the cerebral cortex. Distinctive features of “diencephalic” type alteration of α rhythm are determined by predominant integration of the thalamic or hypothalamic structures into the pathological process. Involvement of the limbic structures, especially at early stages of the disease, induces increase in α-rhythm intensity in the temporal region of the affected hemisphere. The nature of the response of the EEG pattern to the functional stress allows identifying it as a “hippocampal α rhythm”. Implementation of the automatic methods of analyzing plays an important role in the identification of these specified pathologic forms of the α rhythm that are often invisible during visual assessment. Detected atypical forms of α rhythm facilitates the interpretation of hemispheric asymmetry of the EEG in patients with cerebral pathology.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Hyperphosphatemia is a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD), which has contributed to an increase in mortality of CKD patients. The onset of CVD often varies by time-of-day. Acute myocardial infarction or ventricular arrhythmia occurs most frequently during early morning. Blood pressure (BP) and heart rate circadian rhythms account for the diurnal variations in CVD. Preservation of normal circadian time structure from the cardiomyocyte level to the whole organ system is essential for cardiovascular health and CVD prevention. Independent risk factors, such as reduced heart rate variability (HRV) and increased BP variability (BPV), are particularly prevalent in patients with CKD. Analysis of HRV is an important clinical tool for characterizing cardiac autonomic status, and reduced HRV has prognostic significance for various types of CVD. Circadian BP rhythms are classified as extreme dipper, dipper, non-dipper or riser. It has been reported that nocturnal riser BP pattern contributes to cardiovascular threats. Previous studies have indicated that the circadian rhythm of serum phosphate in CKD patients is consistent with the general population, with the highest diurnal value observed in the early morning hours, followed by a progressive decrease to the lowest value of the day, which occurs around 11:00 am. Rhythm abnormalities have become the main therapeutic target for treating CVD in CKD patients. It has been reported that high levels of serum phosphate are associated with reduced HRV and increased BPV in CKD patients. However, the mechanisms related to interactions between hyperphosphatemia, HRV and BPV have not been fully elucidated. This review focuses on the evidence and discusses the potential mechanisms related to the effects of hyperphosphatemia on HRV and BPV.  相似文献

To estimate the EEG predictors of successful training in the voluntary control of psychomotor reactivity, 29 healthy young (aged 22.3 ± 1.5 years) musical performers were examined. The estimation was carried out in terms of segmental α-activity analysis using a biofeedback session as an example, simultaneously stimulating the EEG α rhythm and decreasing the muscle tone. On the first day of the study, the musicians followed instructions for the voluntary control of comfortable finger motor activity when performing musical passages for the right hand during a standard performance practice (without any use of an adaptive feedback). On the second day, the muscle tone and the power of the EEG α rhythm were voluntarily controlled in the context of a biofeedback technology. The analysis of the unsteady EEG segmentation showed that the dynamics of changes in the coherence and segmental characteristics of the α activity were the same for both effective biofeedback training and the standard successful performance practice: an increase in the α-rhythm coherence, an increase in the lifetime of α spindles, and a decrease in their amplitude variability. The results obtained are discussed in terms of the formation and dissociation of neuron ensembles in central mechanisms of optimal psychomotor functioning.  相似文献

Visual analysis of the resting EEG revealed features of functional immaturity of cortical rhythmogenesis in a group of children with low parameters of memory. The closest correlations were observed between the neuropsychological parameters of memory and the character of the α rhythm, which confirmed the involvement of α oscillations in neurophysiological mechanisms of mnestic activity.  相似文献

While diurnal temperature range (DTR) has been found to be a risk factor for mortality, evaluation of the underlying mechanisms involved in this association are lacking. To explain the association between DTR and health effects, we investigated how cardiovascular markers responded to DTR. Data was obtained from 560 participants who regularly attended a community elderly welfare center located in Seoul, Korea. Data collection was conducted a total of five times over a 3-year period beginning in August, 2008. We examined systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), and heart rate variability (HRV). Mixed-effects models and generalized additive mixed models were used to assess the relationship of DTR with BP, HR, and HRV. BP was not associated significantly with rapid temperature changes during the day. While HR was associated linearly with increments of DTR, the relationship between DTR and HRV showed nonlinear associations, or the presence of a cutoff around median DTR. At the cutoff level of DTR determined by an inflection point in the graph, standard deviation of normal-to-normal intervals (SDNN) and root mean square successive difference (RMSSD) were peaked, whereas the low frequency:high frequency (LF:HF) ratio was elevated with decreasing DTR below the cutoff level. The study demonstrated that HR increases with increasing temperature range during the day, and that HRV is reduced at small or large DTR, which suggests minimal cardiovascular stress around the median level of temperature range during the day.  相似文献

The efficiency of baroreflex control depends on the baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), which is defined as the ratio of the change in the heart rate (HR) to the change in the blood pressure (BP). The BRS value may be used for assessing the autonomic control of the cardiovascular system and the degree of autonomic dysfunction. Until recently, the baroreflex had not been assessed in a large population of healthy subjects. In this study, the BRS was estimated by the ratio of the low-frequency component of the HR spectrum and the low-frequency component of the rhythm of the systolic BP. For assessing the arterial baroreflex in children, the BRSs for spontaneous and induced baroreflexes were compared. Sex-and age-related differences in BRS were found in 8-to-11-year-old children, and correlations between BRS and some spectral components of HR variability (HRV) and BP rhythm variability were determined. Cluster analysis of the BRS calculated for the spontaneous baroreflex at rest was used to distinguish three clusters of subjects (with high, medium, and low BRSs). These clusters differed in the variability of the basic parameter and size and showed sex-related differences.  相似文献

Using the methods of quantitative EEG analysis and cognitive evoked potentials, we investigated delayed consequences of head trauma (HT) after nootropic therapy with cerebrolysin. The study was performed in 30 12-to 19-year-old adolescents who had had severe HT with brain contusion one to five years prior to the study and manifested asthenic symptoms. During the study, they underwent treatment with 30 daily intramuscular injections of cerebrolysin at a dose of 0.1 ml/kg body weight. A positive effect on the functional state of the brain was found in 77% of patients. It was expressed as the appearance of the occipital α rhythm in the EEGs, an increase in the EEG spectral power, normalization of frequency parameters of the α rhythm, a decrease in the power spectrum of the low-frequency θ and δ EEG activity, and shortening of the P300 peak latency. These changes were associated with an improvement of the general clinical state and the psychometric indices of attention and memory in the patients.  相似文献

The results of analysis of specific characteristics of the heart rate variability (HRV) regulation in preschool children living under the Arctic high-latitude conditions are presented. The principal ageand gender-specific differences in the HRV regulation have been inferred from the intergroup evaluations of the HRV indicators in boys and girls. A functional developmental delay has been shown in 2.5-year-old girls compared with boys of the same age group. The applied orthostatic test has shown lower reserve capacities in children of the senior group compared with the junior group. It has been shown that the mechanisms of the regulation of cardiac rhythm in girls experience higher strain during orthostasis as compared with boys. The division of children into age groups with an age difference of one year has allowed the detection of the tendency towards basically different responses to functional loads during orthostasis. The mean HRV values characteristic of four- to six-year-old children living in the Arctic are presented. It has been shown that the children living at middle latitudes have a higher adaptive potential compared with the children living in high-latitude Arctic areas.  相似文献

Although the circadian blood pressure (BP) pattern has been extensively studied, the determinants of this rhythm are not fully understood. Peripheral vasodilatation is a regulatory mechanism for BP maintenance. However, it remains to be established whether the increase of nocturnal distal skin temperature associated with heat loss could also reflect the dipping status. For the first time, this paper investigates the relationship between BP and skin wrist temperature (WT), to evaluate whether the WT circadian rhythm can serve as screening procedure to detect dipping/non-dipping BP patterns. In addition, the authors compare the relationship between WT and other variables previously described as determinants of the BP pattern, such as physical activity and body position. Measurements of WT, motor activity, and body position for 5 d, plus ambulatory BP for 24-h during that span, were obtained from 28 diurnally active normotensive volunteers. WT was negatively correlated, whereas activity and body position were positively correlated, with systolic and diastolic BPs. However, these relationships were stronger during the rest than activity phase. In addition, a 78.6% concordance was detected between the observed dips in BP and the predicted BP pattern calculated based on the WT rhythm. Thus, these results suggest that the increase in WT produced by heat loss during the rest phase through peripheral skin blood vessels is the result of blood vessel vasodilatation reflexes in response to a shift from a standing to a supine position, together with shift in the circadian sympathetic/parasympathetic balance (nocturnal parasympathetic activation). In conclusion, WT could be considered as a potential new screening procedure to implement the diagnosis of non-dipping BP pattern.  相似文献

To reveal the specific features of the influence of moderate exercise (running) on the autonomic regulation of the cardiac rhythm, changes in the heart rate variability (HRV) parameters have been analyzed during three months in 292 children aged 9–14, as dependent on the sex and the baseline autonomic tone estimated by means of cluster analysis. It has been shown that, in schoolchildren engaged in running for health, HRV changes give evidence for the optimization of the mechanisms of autonomic regulation. The HRV parameters in the girls were more resistant to muscular activity compared to boys. The data obtained indicate that running for health requires a differential approach to dosing of the exercise, taking into account the sex and the baseline autonomic tone.  相似文献

Spectral EEG characteristics were studied in 12 six-month healthy children in a state of attention, attracted by visual stimuli and also at lowering of the level of visual afferentation and in drowsiness. 12 parts of EEG records free from artefacts were used, with analysis epoch 5 s and discretion frequency 100 counts/s. Three independent rhythmic EEG components have been revealed in alertness state, corresponding by criteria of functional reactivity and topographic localization to theta, alpha and mu EEG rhythms of the adult man. It is suggested that formation of dominating EEG rhythm with age occurs due to changes in dominant relations of the key rhythmic successions with independent genesis.  相似文献

The electrophysiological correlates of major depression disorder with anxious distress in patients of different age groups have been investigated. The spectral characteristics of 19-channel background EEG were analyzed and the power spectra recorded with the eyes closed vs. eyes open in 64 patients with anxiety–depressive disorder and in 194 healthy subjects were compared. The subjects were divided into the two age groups: 18–39 and 40–76 years old. The spectral parameters were calculated for 5 main EEG frequency bands: θ (4–8 Hz), α (8–12 Hz), β1 (12–20 Hz), β2 (20–30 Hz), and γ (30–40 Hz). The most statistically significant differences between the groups were found in the α, β, and γ bands. Lower values of spectral power of the α rhythm in occipital areas and the higher values of spectral power of the β and γ rhythms in the frontocentral region were recorded in the group of 18-to-39-year-old patients with the eyes closed. Higher values of spectral power of the β rhythm in the fronto-central region and in the left temporal lobe were recorded in the group of 40-to-76-year-old patients with both the eyes closed and the eyes open. The higher β-activity in the fronto-central regions in both groups of patients may be caused by increased excitability of the cerebral cortex and decreased activity of inhibitory processes. Increased activation of the left temporal lobe in older subjects is probably associated with the severity of anxiety symptoms and may be a distinctive marker of mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. The lower values of α-power revealed only in the group of younger subjects are probably associated with age-related reorganization of EEG in older subjects.  相似文献

Dynamic EEG study of patients with posttraumatic Korsakoff's syndrome (KS) with the application of complex analysis methods revealed a complicated pathological structure of the intercentral relations of cortical electrical activity. The interhemispheric EEG coherence between symmetrical frontal cortical areas are sharply reduced, while the intrahemispheric coherence are increased in comparison with the normal values. The proposed technique of segregation of statistically homogeneous spectro-coherent characteristics made it possible to reveal the earlier intercentral EEG relations formed by stable and variable coherence spectra. The structure formed by the stable and variable coherence spectra in KS differs from that reflected in the mean coherence levels. During the KS regression, the EEG coherence between the right and left frontal areas increased to the normal level, and the variable spectra are revealed. In the chronic KS syndrome, the pathological intercentral relations persist, while the variable relations in the frontal areas are absent. A reduction of pathologically decreased intrahemispheric coherence selectively revealed in the right hemisphere during the KS regression and formation of variable relations in this hemisphere point to a leading role of the right hemisphere in development of compensatory processes in KS. The reciprocal relations between the intra- and interhemispheric coherence and coherence dynamics in the theta rhythm suggest that pathological activity in the basal diencephalic structures plays an important role in formation of the pathological EEG pattern in KS.  相似文献

The relations between the component of the hippocampal network free oscillations, i.e., sharp potential waves (SPW) and the theta component of the hippocampal EEG are considered. It is commonly accepted that, in the course of changes from the state corresponding to a weak activation of the hippocampal network in the theta rhythm by the septum through the state corresponding to a medium activation to the state of a high activation, the inverse dependence between the magnitudes of these components in the EEG spectra takes place. However, our work shows that this dependence can be deranged in the rat EEG during quiet wakefulness that corresponds to the medium activation of the hippocampal network in theta rhythm. It was also shown that the RF stimulation can evoke abnormal signals with well-pronounced theta activity against the background of a considerable SPW component. This phenomenon demonstrates a possibility of a strong derangement of the dependence, which is, as a rule, observed under the natural conditions. The hypothesis concerning the organization and regulation of the investigated components of the hippocampal EEG is proposed.  相似文献

It has been shown that the EEG of pregnant women with high anxiety level is characterized by a lower occipital alpha and theta rhythm spectral power if compared to the EEG of women with low anxiety level. The frequency of the alpha rhythm of their EEG was reliably higher. Pregnant women with high anxiety level with a pregnancy interruption threat diagnosis have an essentially lower occipital alpha rhythm spectral power than women of this group without such a diagnosis. And vice versa, the occipital alpha rhythm spectral power in the EEG of pregnant women with low anxiety level with a pregnancy interruption threat diagnosis is essentially higher and its frequency essentially lower than the EEG of women without that diagnosis. The data received are interpreted as a change in hormone regulation during the pregnancy period, as well as psychogenic influence on the pregnancy.  相似文献
