Functional and numerical responses of the predators:Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot,Metaseiulus occidentalis (Nesbitt), andAmblyseius chilenensis (Dosse) [Acarina, Phytoseiidae] were observed at prey (Tetranychus urticae Koch [Acarina, Tetranychidae]) densities up to 300 prey/6.45 cm2. Neither functional nor numerical response curves revealed any prey-predator interference effects, i.e.: the dome-shaped response curves (Holling, 1961), did not occur.  相似文献

Two Gramineae species, oat and maize, are compared with wheat and barley to see if they contain lectins which are structurally and functionally similar to the Hordeae lectins. Four distinct criteria were examined: localisation of lectin activity in the seed, ability to agglutinate a defined type of erythrocyte in a reaction reversed by monomers or oligomers of n-acetyl-d-glucosamine, ability to bind to the affinity matrix p-aminobenzyl-1-thio-2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-d-glucopyranoside-substituted Sepharose, and cross-reactivity with monospecific antisera raised to wheat-germ agglutinin. Results indicate that the very close relationship found between the lectins of wheat, barley and rye cannot be extended to those species of Gramineae outside the tribe Hordeae.  相似文献

The diamond-back moth,Plutella xylostella (L.) is a major pest of cruciferous crops in Trinidad, West Indies. Pesticides are applied as a control measure but it is now resistant to several of them. Indigenous parasitesApanteles aciculatus (Ashm.),Apanteles sp. (glomeratus group),Spilochalcis hirtifemora (Ashm.) andTrichogramma brasiliensis (Ashm.) are unable to exert economic control.Apanteles plutellae (Kurdj.) andTetrastichus sokolowskii Kurdj. were introduced and are now well established. It is recommended to introduce additional parasitesMacromalon sp. andThyraeella collaris (Grav.) in order to obtain complete biological control.  相似文献

The paper gives more detailed characteristics of Arabis mosaic virus (AMV) and tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV) isolated from lilac, the latter being identified in lilac (from plants suffering from yellow ring disease) for the first time. The isolate of TBSV from lilac, from which an antiserum with a titre of 1024 was prepared, is closely related to the artichoke strain. Information is given about two types of ringspot disease and about chlorotic ringspot of lilac. Whereas in the leaves of lilac suffering from ringspot disease (of ring mosaic type) the presence of AMV was demonstrated, the sap transmission from the leaves diseased with ringspot of linepattern (and wave-like mosaic) type failed; from the leaves affected by chlorotic ringspot a mixture of AMV and cherry leaf roll virus was identified. In addition, the polyetiological nature of “spring” mosaic and necrotic mosaic of lilac, in which bacteriumPseudomonas syringae van Hall, was found is dealt with. Two parasitoids of the potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella) (Zeller)[Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae], Copidosoma uruguayyensis Tachikawa andApanteles subandinus Blanchard, originally from South America, have been successfully established in South Africa. Recoveries many kilometers from the original release sites are common. In the Transvaal these two parasitoids have shown, by replacing the indigenous parasitoids, that they can possibly achieve better control of the potato tuber moth. The more efficient use of ridging and the complete discontinuation or reduction of insecticide applications to one or two carefully timed sprays could achieve better use of biological control.  相似文献

Three introduced parasites ofPhthorimaea operculella (Zeller) are now widespread, and a fourth established in a limited area, in Australia.Apanteles subandinus Blanchard, which occurs from Tasmania to Queensland, is the most effective species and the outstanding parasite in Victoria. The extent of parasitism and the status of the various parasites were monitored from the time of their release until 1971. In many areas whereCopidosoma koehleri Blanchard was the only parasite found in 1966, a substantial increase in parasitism was recorded in subsequent years, following the liberation of other species. In the 1969–70 season there was an explosive increase inOrgilus lepidus Muesebeck, which became the dominant species in some coastal areas of New South Wales, displacingA. subandinus. Its change of status to a dominant position was associated with a change of sex ratio from 1.6 ♀: 1♂ to 1.0 ♀: 1 ♂.  相似文献

Significant reductions of the average densities of 7 Diptera:Musca domestica L.,Muscina stabulans (Fallen),Fannia canicularis (L.),F. femoralis (Stein),Ophyra leucostoma (Wiedemann),Stomoxys calcitrans (L.), andPhaenicia spp. were attained over a 20-month period on poultry ranches that were under supervision in southern California by favoring the natural increase of predatory and scavenger arthropods and by periodic inoculative releases of 4 parasitic Hymenoptera. The importance of a long range management plan is emphasized. Releases of parasitic Hymenoptera during spring months had an apparent greater direct effect on fly population reduction than did similar releases in the summer. Autumn releases were not evaluated through a temporary ban on sampling breeding habitats in the wake of a Newcastle Disease outbreak. The importance of habitat stability and exotic importations of beneficial species are discussed.  相似文献

Extra- and intracellular glycanohydrolases were isolated fromAspergillus flavus and partially characterized. Both preparations exhibited β-galactosidase activity. Gel chromatography of the extracellular enzyme preparation on Sephadex revealed one protein fraction containing β-galactosidase activity and a second one exhibiting mainly β-xylosidase activity. Electrophoresis in starch gel and disc electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel showed that the preparation obtained from the cultivation broth contained five protein fractions, whereas two protein fractions could be detected in the intracellular preparation. Hydrolysis of a partially degraded polysaccharide of peach gum by the above preparations yieldedd-galactose as the main product and traces ofd-mannose,l-arabinose,d-xylose and a number of oligosaccharides.  相似文献

Parasitism ofPhthorimaea operculella (Zeller) larvae on potato foliage was examined intensively in the Lockyer Valley, south-eastern Queensland from 1975–78 and extensively from other hosts and areas of Queensland. The % parasitism in the Lockyer Valley exceeded 50% in 29 of the 36 collections. The parasite species were dominated by the introducedCopidosoma desantisi Annecke & Mynhardt (Encyrtidae) andOrgilus lepidus Muesebeck (Braconidae) which together accounted for 92.6% of parasite numbers recorded. In more northern areas of Queensland, the dominant parasite species found was the introducedApanteles subandinus Blanchard (Braconidae). Other hymenopterous parasites found wereMicrochelonus curvimaculatus Cameron (Braconidae), Elasmus funereus Riek (Elasmidae) andTemelucha minuta (Morley) (Ichneumonidae).  相似文献

In the preceding paper, using ECEPP, including the effects of water, and the chain build-up procedure, we computed the low energy structures for GnRH and found that there were no distinct low energy structures or structures with high statistical weights. To attempt to deduce possible structures of GnRH that may bind to the GnRH receptor, we computed the low energy structures for GnRH peptides that have l- and d-amino acids substituting for Gly 6. The l-amino acid-substituted peptides (l-Ala and l-Val) have very low or no affinity for the receptor and on activity (release of FSH and LH) while the d-Ala-, d-Leu-, d-Trp- and d-Phe-substituted peptides have significantly higher relative affinities and activities than those for native GnRH; the d-Val-substituted peptide has about one-third of the affinity and activity as native GnRH. Unlike native GnRH, our computations suggest that both sets of peptides form well-defined structures in water: the l-amino acid-substituted peptides are predominantly α-helical while the d-amino acid-substituted peptides adopted E*A A A E D*(C*) A E C A(C*) and minor variants of these structures. By eliminating structures that lay in common to the d-Ala and l-Val peptides and further eliminating structures that differed between the d-Ala and d-Leu peptides, we reduced the number of possible distinct binding conformations to 254. Searching for structures among these 254 conformations that had relative statistical weights that paralleled their relative affinities, we found two candidate structures: D*E A A E C*A E C A and D*G A A E D*A E C G*, both of which have conformations for residues 3–9 that are similar to the computed most probable structures for the d-amino acid-substituted GnRH peptides in water.  相似文献

In the greenhouse, rates of parasitization ofAnagasta kuehniella (Zeller) eggs byTrichogramma pretiosum (Riley) were significantly increased when treated with water extracts of the weed,Amaranthus retroflexus L.: 1) Parasitization rates appeared to be dose dependent with greatest percentage parasitization obtained fromVicia faba L. plants sprayed with 2.5 ml of the extract, 2) Parasitization rates increased with an exposure time of 24 h, and 3) Plants sprayed withA. retroflexus in mosaic patterns interspersed with 2 additional plant extracts (Chenopodium album L. andPortulaca oleracea L.) did not show a total increase of parasitization over control plants treated with water.  相似文献

While the unequivocal pattern of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) inhibition in cardiovascular control is recognized, the role of NO produced by neuronal NOS (nNOS) remains unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of chronic treatment with 7-nitroindazole (7-NI, nNOS inhibitor) and NG-nitro-l-arginine methylester (l-NAME, general and predominantly eNOS inhibitor) on cardiovascular system of young normotensive rats. Wistar rats (4 weeks old) were used: controls and rats administered either 7-NI (10 mg/kg bw/day) or l-NAME (50 mg/kg bw/day) in drinking water for 6 weeks. The systolic blood pressure (sBP) was measured by plethysmographic method, and the vasoactivity of isolated arteries was recorded. 7-NI-treatment did not affect sBP; however, the sBP was increased after l-NAME-treatment. l-NAME inhibited acetylcholine-induced relaxation of thoracic aorta (TA), whereas it remained unchanged after 7-NI-treatment. The response of TA to sodium nitroprusside was increased in both experimental groups. The expression of eNOS and nNOS in TA was unchanged in both experimental groups, whereas the activity of NOS was decreased in l-NAME-treated group. Noradrenaline- and angiotensin II-induced contractions of TA were reduced in l-NAME-treated group; however, the contractions remained unchanged in 7-NI-treated group. In all groups, the endogenous angiotensin II participated in adrenergic contraction of TA; this contribution was significantly increased in l-NAME-treated group. Neurogenic contractions in mesenteric artery (MA) remained unchanged after 7-NI-treatment, but increased after l-NAME-treatment. Results show that NO deficiency induced by administration of 7-NI and l-NAME had different cardiovascular effects: eNOS and nNOS triggered distinct signaling pathways in young normotensive rats.  相似文献

Human erythrocyte (RBC) catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is under genetic control. Experiments were performed to determine whether COMT in the human lymphocyte is regulated in parallel with RBC COMT. Supernatants of lymphocyte homogenates contained COMT activity. However, they also contained a potent COMT inhibitor, the effect of which could be negated by dilution. Lymphocyte COMT activity was maximal at a reaction pH of 7.7 and at a MgCl2 concentration of 0.67mm. The apparent K m value for 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, the catechol substrate for the reaction, was 1.2×10?5 m and that for S-adenosyl-l-methionine, the methyl donor, was 2.3×10?6 m. An average of 48.3±3.3% (mean ± SEM) of the enzyme activity in crude lymphocyte homogenates from 3 subjects was removed by centrifugation at 100,000 g for 1 hr and was presumed to be membrane associated. The average COMT activity in lymphocytes isolated from blood of 23 randomly selected adult subjects was 14.0±1.2 units/106 cells (mean ± SEM) or 913±69 units/mg protein. There was a significant correlation of relative RBC with relative lymphocyte COMT activity in these 23 subjects. The correlation coefficient was 0.733 (P<0.001) when lymphocyte enzyme activity was expressed per milligram of protein and 0.649 (P<0.001) when lymphocyte activity was expressed per 106 cells. These results are compatible with the conclusion that the genetic polymorphism which regulates RBC COMT activity may also regulate the level of human lymphocyte COMT activity.  相似文献

Over-exposure to manganese (Mn) has been known to induce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress involving protein misfolding. The proper maturation and folding of native proteins rely on the activity of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI). However, the exact mechanism of Mn-induced alpha-synuclein oligomerization is unclear. To explore whether alpha-synuclein oligomerization was associated with S-nitrosylation of PDI, we made the rat brain slice model of manganism and pretreated slices with l-Canavanine, a selective iNOS inhibitor. After slices were treated with Mn (0, 25, 100, and 400 μM) for 24 h, there were dose-dependent increases in apoptotic percentage of cells, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) releases, production of NO, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) activity, the mRNA and protein expressions of iNOS, and PDI. Moreover, S-nitrosylated PDI and alpha-synuclein oligomerization also increased. However, there was a significant increase in the PDI activity of 25-μM Mn-treated slices. Then, PDI activity and the affinity between PDI and alpha-synuclein decreased significantly in response to Mn (100 and 400 μM), which was associated with S-nitrosylation of PDI. The results indicated that S-nitrosylated PDI could affect its activity. We use the l-Canavanine pretreatment brain slices to inhibit S-nitrosylation of PDI. The results showed that l-Canavanine pretreatment could reduce Mn-induced nerve cell injury and alpha-synuclein oligomerization. Additionally, there was a significant recovery in PDI activity in l-Canavanine-pretreated slices. The findings revealed that Mn induced nitrosative stress via the activation of iNOS and subsequent S-nitrosylation of PDI in cultured slices. Moreover, S-nitrosylation of PDI is an important signaling event in the Mn-induced alpha-synuclein oligomerization in brain slices.  相似文献

Pyemotes parviscolyti Cross & Moser is phoretic only onPityophthorus bisulcatus Eichhoff; it attacks all stages of this insect except the adult. Females, which contain little or no venom, prey on other scolytids if galleries overlap. The parasitic waspBracon hebetor Say paralyses its host, the larvae of the rice mothCorcyra cephalonica Staint, before oviposition. The effect of injected venom on the activity of cholinesterase was studied. The ChE activity of the paralysed larvae showed a partial inhibition of about 40% than that of the normal larvae. Such inhibition in ChE activity interferes with the synaptic transmission and/or may result in neuromuscular block causing the observed paralysis.  相似文献
