The superimposed burst technique is used to estimate quadriceps central activation ratio during a maximal voluntary isometric contraction, which is calculated from force data during an open-chain knee extension task. Assessing quadriceps activation in a closed-chain position would more closely simulate the action of the quadriceps during activity. Our aim was to determine the test–retest reliability of the quadriceps central activation ratio in the closed chain.MethodsTwenty-two healthy, active volunteers (13M/12F; age = 23.8 ± 3; height = 72.7 ± 14.5 cm; mass = 175.3 ± 9.6 kg) were recruited to participate. Knee extension MVIC torque and the peak torque during a superimposed electrical stimulus delivered to the quadriceps during an MVIC were measured to estimate quadriceps CAR. Interclass correlation coefficients were used to assess test–retest reliability between sessions, and Bland–Altman plots to graphically assess agreement between sessions.ResultsTest–retest reliability was fair for CAR (ICC2,k = 0.68; P = 0.005), with a mean difference of −2.8 ± 10.3%, and limits of agreement ranging −23.1–18.1%.ConclusionsCAR calculated using the superimposed burst technique is moderately reliable in a closed-chain position using technique-based instruction. Although acceptable reliability was demonstrated, wide limits of agreement suggest high variability between sessions.  相似文献

Normalization of electromyographic (EMG) amplitudes is necessary in the study of human motion. However, there is a lack of agreement on the most reliable and appropriate normalization method. This study evaluated the reliability of single leg stance (SLS) and maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) normalization methods and the relationship between these measures for the gluteus maximus (GMax), gluteus medius (GMed), rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis (VL), hip adductor group (ADD), and biceps femoris (BF). Surface EMG was recorded in 20 subjects during three 5 s trials of SLS and MVIC. SLS and MVIC methods both demonstrated good-to-excellent reliability in all muscles (ICCs > 0.80). Intrasubject coefficients of variation were lower for the MVIC method (9–36%) than for the SLS method (20–59%). EMG amplitudes during MVIC and SLS were significantly correlated for all muscles (Pearson r’s = 0.604–0.905, p < 0.005) except GMax (r = 0.250, p = 0.288). Use of SLS normalization for the RF, VL, and BF is not recommended due to a lack of measurement precision. However, this method is justified in the GMax, GMed, and ADD and may provide a better representation of coordinated muscle function during a functional task.  相似文献

Khat (Catha edulis) is a lucrative cash crop in many African countries and other areas of the world. Leftover khat can be used as a feedstuff for ruminants, although seasonal production limits the extent of utilization. Practical methods of feed conservation to preserve nutritional value would be beneficial. Thus, a study was conducted to investigate effects of feeding different forms of leftover khat on intake, digestion, and growth performance of a tropically adapted indigenous goat genotype of eastern Ethiopia. Twenty-four (six per treatment) individually housed Hararghe Highland yearling male goats with an initial body weight of 18 ± 0.4 kg were used in an on-station experiment, and 32 similar yearlings with an initial body weight of 19 ± 0.4 kg were employed under on-farm conditions. The on-farm experiment occurred at two villages, with four farmer groups (two farmers per group co-managing animals) per village. Four animals in each farmer group were subjected to each of the four different treatments. Experiments were 90 days in length, with inclusion of a subsequent 10-day period on-station to determine digestibility. Khat in fresh, dry, and silage forms was fed at 1.5% body weight (dry matter; DM), whereas control animals did not receive khat. Animals on-station consumed grass hay ad libitum and those on-farm grazed/browsed surrounding areas. Grass hay DM intake on-station was greater (P < 0.05) without than with khat (528, 358, 387, and 368 g/day; SE = 20.3), although total DM intake was increased by feeding khat regardless of form (528, 649, 622, and 639 g/day for control, fresh, dry, and silage, respectively; SE = 22.9). Digestibility of organic matter was increased (P < 0.05) by feeding each form of khat (62.3%, 75.7%, 75.2%, and 72.4% for control, fresh, dry, and silage, respectively; SE = 1.63). Nitrogen balance was increased by fresh and ensiled khat (P < 0.05) (?0.54, 2.07, 0.80, and 0.86 g/day for control, fresh, dry, and silage, respectively). Average daily gain (ADG) was increased by khat regardless of form on-station (13, 49, 33, and 39 g; SE = 4.6), and on-farm ADG was less for control than for fresh and dry forms (P < 0.05) (32, 56, 47, and 42 g for control, fresh, dry, and silage, respectively SE = 2.0). The ratio of ADG:DM intake on-station was lower for control than for fresh (P < 0.05) and silage (P < 0.05) (26, 76, 54, and 61 g/kg for control, fresh, dry, and silage, respectively; SE = 7.6). In conclusion, feeding leftover khat to Highland goats consuming low to moderate quality forage-based diets can increase growth performance. Khat can be preserved for use as a feedstuff throughout the year by drying or ensiling without marked effect on performance.  相似文献

Electromyographic (EMG) studies into gluteus medius (GMed) typically involve surface EMG electrodes. Previous comparisons of surface and fine wire electrode recordings in other muscles during high load isometric tasks suggest that recordings between electrodes are comparable when the muscle is contracting at a high intensity, however, surface electrodes record additional activity when the muscle is contracting at a low intensity. The purpose of this study was to compare surface and fine wire recordings of GMed at high and low intensities of muscle contractions, under high load conditions (maximum voluntary isometric contractions, MVICs). Mann–Whitney U tests compared median electrode recordings during three MVIC hip actions; abduction, internal rotation and external rotation, in nine healthy adults. There were no significant differences between electrode recordings in positions that evoked a high intensity contraction (internal rotation and abduction, fine wire activity >77% MVIC; effect size, ES < 0.42; p > 0.277). During external rotation, the intensity of muscle activity was low (4.2% MVIC), and surface electrodes recorded additional myoelectric activity (ES = 0.67, p = 0.002). At low levels of muscle activity during high load isometric tasks, the use of surface electrodes may result in additional myoelectric recordings of GMed, potentially reflective of cross-talk from surrounding muscles.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to analyze the activation characteristics and potential compartmentalization of the latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle during common maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVICs) and functional dynamic tasks. Surface electromyography (sEMG) was used to measure activation magnitudes from four electrode sites (referenced to the T10, T12, L1 & L4 LD vertebral origins) across the fanning muscle belly of the LD. In addition, EMG waveforms were cross-correlated to study temporal activation timing between electrode sites (T10-T12, T12-L1, L1-L4 & T10-L4). The MVICs that were tested included a humeral adduction, humeral adduction with internal rotation, a chest-supported row and a humeral extension. Dynamic movements included sagittal lift/lowers from the floor to knee, knee to hip and hip to shoulder. No magnitude-based (p = 0.6116) or temporal-based differences were observed between electrode sites during the MVIC trials. During dynamic movements no temporal-based, but some magnitude-based differences between electrode sites were observed to be present; these differences were small in magnitude and were observed for both the maximum (p = 0.0002) and mean (p = 0.0002) EMG magnitudes. No clear pattern of compartmentalization was uncovered in the contractions studied here. In addition to these findings, it was determined that the most effective MVIC technique for LD EMG normalization purposes was a chest-supported row MVIC, paired with a T12 electrode site.  相似文献

This study compared the effects of 6-week whole-body vibration (WBV) training programs with different frequency and peak-to-peak displacement settings on knee extensor muscle strength and power. The underlying mechanisms of the expected gains were also investigated. Thirty-two physically active male subjects were randomly assigned to a high-frequency/high peak-to-peak displacement group (HH; n = 12), a low-frequency/low peak-to-peak displacement group (LL; n = 10) or a sham training group (SHAM; n = 10). Maximal voluntary isometric, concentric and eccentric torque of the knee extensors, maximal voluntary isometric torque of the knee flexors, jump performance, voluntary muscle activation, and contractile properties of the knee extensors were assessed before and after the training period. Significant improvement in knee extensor eccentric voluntary torque (P < 0.01), knee flexor isometric voluntary torque (P < 0.05), and jump performance (P < 0.05) was observed only for HH group. Regardless of the group, knee extensor muscle contractile properties (P < 0.05) were enhanced. No modification was observed for voluntary muscle activation or electrical activity of agonist and antagonist muscles. We concluded that high-frequency/high peak-to-peak displacement was the most effective vibration setting to enhance knee extensor muscle strength and jump performance during a 6-week WBV training program and that these improvements were not mediated by central neural adaptations.  相似文献

A relationship exists between muscles of the lumbar spine and those of the lower extremity where the quadriceps become more inhibited after lumbar paraspinal. The purpose of this experiment was to compare surface electromyography (sEMG) total frequency content after lumbar paraspinal fatiguing exercise. Scope: 50 subjects performed fatiguing lumbar extension exercise indexed by downward shifts in median frequency calculated from lumbar paraspinal sEMG signal. Before and after each exercise set we recorded maximal, isometric knee extension torque and quadriceps central activation ratio (QI) using the superimposed burst technique while recording vastus lateralis sEMG. We calculated total frequency content of the sEMG signal (fEMGTOTAL) as the area of the quadriceps sEMG frequency spectrum. Quadriceps fEMGTOTAL decreased from baseline following the first and second exercise sets. There was no significant change in quadriceps sEMG median frequency among baseline and post-exercise measures. The change in fEMGTOTAL was correlated with the change in QI following the first (r = ?0.41, P = 0.003) and second (r = ?0.32, P = 0.02) exercise sets. Conclusion: Quadriceps fEMGTOTAL decreased following fatiguing lumbar extension exercise, in the absence of a significant change in quadriceps median frequency.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of visual and proprioceptive feedback in upper limb posture control in fibromyalgia (FM) and to assess the coherence between acceleration measurements of upper limb micro movements and surface electromyography (sEMG) of shoulder muscle activity (upper trapezius and deltoid). Twenty-five female FM patients and 25 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) performed three precision motor tasks: (1) maintain a steady shoulder abduction angle of 45° while receiving visual feedback about upper arm position and supporting external loads (0.5, 1, or 2 kg), (2) maintain the same shoulder abduction angle without visual feedback (eyes closed) and no external loading, and (3) a joint position sense test (i.e., assessment of proprioceptive accuracy). Patients had more extensive increase in movement variance than HCs when visual feedback was removed (P < 0.03). Proprioceptive accuracy was related to movement variance in HCs (R  0.59, P  0.002), but not in patients (R  0.25, P  0.24). There was no difference between patients and HCs in coherence between sEMG and acceleration data. These results may indicate that FM patients are more dependent on visual feedback and less reliant on proprioceptive information for upper limb posture control compared to HCs.  相似文献

This study investigated the feasibility of measuring voluntary activation of the trapezius muscle with twitch interpolation. Subjects (n = 8) lifted the right shoulder or both shoulders against fixed force transducers. Stimulation of the accessory nerve in the neck was used to evoke maximal twitches in right trapezius. The twitch-like increments in force (superimposed twitches) evoked during different strength voluntary contractions were linearly related to voluntary force (r = ?0.82 to ?0.99). Hence, voluntary activation could be quantified by twitch interpolation with this stimulus. Comparison of unilateral and bilateral MVCs showed that maximal voluntary force was greater in unilateral than bilateral efforts (92.7 ± 2.9% and 82.3 ± 5.8% MVC, respectively) but voluntary activation was similar (88.6 ± 9.6% and 91.7 ± 5.2%). Trapezius is commonly affected in work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Measurement of voluntary activation will be a useful technique to demonstrate whether the reduced maximal voluntary force reported in such disorders is due to muscular or neural factors.  相似文献

Four methods of ranking horses on reactivity were evaluated and compared: isolation from conspecifics, presentation of a static novel stimulus, traversing a novel stimulus in a runway (isolation, novel stimulus and runway tests, respectively) and assigning subjective emotionality scores. In all tests, horses’ heart rates were recorded and behaviour was videotaped. To be considered a valid test of reactivity, at least one heart rate and one behavioural measurement in the test had to change significantly between treatments (tranquilizer administation versus sham tranquilizer administration), and behavioural measures had to be displayed in at least 75% of the trials. Forty horses performed each of the three tests daily on three different days in a switchback design. Horses were assigned randomly to a daily test sequence, which was maintained throughout the study. In the runway test, no significant difference in heart rate values in tranquilized and non-tranquilized horses was found, and no behavioural attribute was displayed in more than 52% of the trials; therefore it was rejected as a valid test of reactivity. Both isolation and novel stimulus tests produced valid measurements. Mean heart rate was the most precise physiological measure for these tests, and walking and defecation frequency were the most precise behavioural measures for novel stimulus and isolation tests, respectively. Mean heart rates on the novel stimulus and isolation tests were correlated (rs = 0.79, P < 0.01) indicating that these tests produced similar rankings based on physiological responses. However, behavioural measures ranked horses differently (rs = 0.27, P < 0.10) on the tests. Rank correlations between mean heart rates and behavioural measures were higher in the novel stimulus (rs = 0.66, P < 0.01) than the isolation test (rs = 0.55, P < 0.01), indicating that the novel stimulus test ranked horses based on either physiological or behavioural responses more similarly than did the isolation test. Therefore, the novel stimulus test was considered the more accurate evaluation of reactivity. Subjective emotionality scores were correlated moderately with mean heart rates (rs > 0.33, P < 0.01) from the novel stimulus and isolation tests and with walking scores (rs = 0.47, P < 0.01) from the novel stimulus test. Assignment of subjective emotionality scores was not as accurate as the novel stimulus or isolation tests in ranking horses for reactivity. Using physiological data alone, combining physiological and behavioural measurements or using more than one behavioural measurement in reactivity tests may reflect the reactivity of the horse better than a single behavioural measurement.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo investigate possible alterations in cord blood levels of adipokine nesfatin-1 (secreted by adipose tissue and pancreatic β-cells and implicated in glucose metabolism and insulin resistance), as well as insulin, in large (LGA) and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) pregnancies, granted that these groups differ in body fat mass and metabolic/endocrine mechanisms.Materials and methodsCord blood nesfatin-1 and insulin concentrations were prospectively measured in 40 LGA (9 born from diabetic and 31 from non-diabetic mothers) and 20 AGA singleton full-term infants as well as their mothers.ResultsCord blood nesfatin-1 concentrations were significantly lower in LGA compared to AGA neonates (b = ?0.206, SE 0.07, p = 0.005). However, cord blood nesfatin-1 concentrations were elevated in infants born from mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), compared to those born from non-diabetic mothers, after controlling for group (b = 0.190, SE 0.10, p = 0.05). Finally, cord blood nesfatin-1 concentrations were lower in cases of vaginal delivery (b = 0.11, SE 0.05, p = 0.042). Insulin levels were significantly elevated, as customized centiles increased (b = 0.004, SE = 0.002, p = 0.016). No significant correlation was found between insulin and nesfatin-1 in maternal and umbilical cord levels.ConclusionsIn this study nesfatin-1 levels are decreased in LGA compared to AGA fetuses. Fetal nesfatin-1 concentrations are higher in cases of GDM and cord blood nesfatin-1 concentrations are lower in cases of vaginal delivery.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) on sub-maximal quadriceps force control with respect to quadriceps and hamstring muscle activity. Thirty ACLR individuals together with 30 healthy individuals participated. With real-time visual feedback of muscle force output and electromyographic electrodes attached to the quadriceps and hamstring muscles, subjects performed an isometric knee extension task where they increased and decreased their muscle force output at 0.128 Hz within a range of 5–30% maximum voluntary capacity. The ACLR group completed the task with more error and increased medial hamstring and vastus medialis activation (p < 0.05). Moderate negative correlations (p < 0.05) were observed between quadriceps force control and medial (Spearman’s rho = −0.448, p = 0.022) and lateral (Spearman’s rho = −0.401, p = 0.034) hamstring activation in the ACLR group. Diminished quadriceps sub-maximal force control in ACLR subjects was reflective of medial quadriceps and hamstring dyskinesia (i.e., altered muscle activity patterns and coordination deficits). Within the ACLR group however, augmented hamstring co-activation was associated with better quadriceps force control. Future studies should explore the convergent validity of quadriceps force control in ACLR patients.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to assess the effect of the pelvic compression belt on the electromyographic (EMG) activities of gluteus medius (GM), quadratus lumborum (QL), and lumbar multifidus (LM) during side-lying hip abduction. Thirty-one volunteers (15 men and 16 women) with no history of pathology volunteered for this study. Subjects were instructed to perform hip abduction in side-lying position with and without applying the pelvic compression belt. The pelvic compression belt was adjusted just below the anterior superior iliac spines with the stabilizing pressure using elastic compression bands. Surface EMG data were collected from the GM, QL, and LM of the dominant limb. Significantly decreased EMG activity in the QL (without the pelvic compression belt, 60.19 ± 23.66% maximal voluntary isometric contraction [MVIC]; with the pelvic compression belt, 51.44 ± 23.00% MVIC) and significantly increased EMG activity in the GM (without the pelvic compression belt, 26.71 ± 12.88% MVIC; with the pelvic compression belt, 35.02 ± 18.28% MVIC) and in the LM (without the pelvic compression belt, 30.28 ± 14.60% MVIC; with the pelvic compression belt, 37.47 ± 18.94% MVIC) were found when the pelvic compression belt was applied (p < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences of the EMG activity between male and female subjects. The findings suggest that the pelvic compression belt may be helpful to prevent unwanted substitution movement during side-lying hip abduction, through increasing the GM and LM and decreasing the QL.  相似文献

The lifetime performance of female sheep is one of the most important economic traits in sheep husbandry. In this investigation, a Weibull model was used to study the effects of ‘breed’, ‘number of lambings’, ‘age at first lambing’, ‘type of birth’ and ‘farm’ on the length of productive life (LPL). The data included records of 5191 female sheep of four different breeds on 236 breeding farms in northern Germany. The observation period in which the sheep were born or were removed from the farm ranged from January 2003 to December 2007. About 12% of the records were right-censored. All variables had a significant effect on LPL at a level of p < 0.001 except ‘type of birth’. The German Blackheaded Mutton breed showed the lowest risk ratio with 0.77 (SE = 0.17), while the Texel had the highest hazard rate (1.00). The relative culling risk initially decreased from the first (5.73, SE = 0.09) to the seventh lambing (0.36, SE = 0.12), and then increased until lambing number nine. The highest relative culling risk was calculated at an age of 395 to less than 455 days at first lambing (1.00). Animals younger than 395 days at first lambing showed the lowest risk ratio (0.56, SE = 0.05). The culling risk for the effect ‘farm’ ranged from 0.3 to 3.1. A differentiation of environmental, housing or management effects was not feasible with this data. But the results offer some interesting options for further studies.  相似文献

Forty-eight mature US Spanish does (40 kg BW), from a herd selected for cashmere fiber growth, were used to investigate influences of the number of fetuses and levels of ME and CP in supplements during gestation and lactation on doe and kid performance. At 60 days of gestation, does with single or twin fetuses consumed mature Bermudagrass hay ad libitum and 1% BW (DM basis) of supplements with 18.6% or 28.5% CP (LP and HP, respectively) and 2.2 or 2.8 Mcal/kg ME (DM basis; LE and HE, respectively). The HE-HP supplement was offered at 1.5% BW (DM basis) for 15 days after birth, and does received the same supplement treatments as in gestation thereafter until weaning at 50 days after parturition. For a 50-day post-weaning period, kids consumed ad libitum the HE-LP supplement. BW at 90 days of gestation (41.4 vs 38.4 kg; P<0.10), BW before parturition (46.1 vs 41.7 kg; P<0.05), BW loss from parturition to day 21 of lactation (8.38 vs 5.25 kg; P<0.05), litter birth weight (5.47 vs 2.75 kg; P<0.05) and plasma concentrations of β-hydroxybutyrate (0.33 vs 0.29 mM; P<0.05) and NEFA (538 vs 434 mEq/l; P<0.05) were greater for does with twin vs single kids. BW at weaning was similar between single and twin kids (P>0.10; 8.31 and 7.63, respectively). Kid BW and cashmere fiber weight after the post-weaning period were affected by interactions (P<0.05) between number of fetuses and supplement ME level; kid BW was 12.3, 14.7, 14.6 and 13.2 kg (SE = 1.12 and 0.68 kg for singles and twins, respectively), and kid cashmere weight was 86, 109, 106 and 102 g (SE = 8.5 and 5.0 g for singles and twins, respectively) for single-HE, single-LE, twin-HE and twin-LE, respectively. In conclusion, effects of supplements differing in levels of ME and in ingredient composition for US Spanish does in gestation and lactation had dissimilar impacts on post-weaning BW and cashmere weight of single and twin kids. However, because of the limited number of observations and the high variability among animals in measures such as cashmere fibre growth, further experimentation concerning the potential for effects of nutritional plane of does on cashmere growth by kids is warranted.  相似文献

Extant research has documented the effects of intranasal administration of oxytocin (OT), and to a lesser degree Arginine Vasopressin (AVP) – two structurally-related neuropeptides – on brain and behaviour, yet the effects of exogenous manipulation of one on circulating levels of the other remain unknown. Studies have shown that OT administration impacts the peripheral levels of numerous hormones; however, whether OT administration also increases AVP concentrations has not been explored. Utilizing a double-blind placebo-controlled within-subject design, ten male and female subjects provided ten saliva samples over four consecutive hours: at baseline and nine times following OT administration. Results indicate that salivary AVP increased in the first hour following OT manipulation (OT condition: mean AVP = 2.17 pg/ml, SE = 28, placebo condition: mean AVP = 1.42 pg/ml, SE = .18) but returned to baseline levels at the next assessment (80 min) and remained low for the remaining period. Similar to OT, AVP showed high degree of individual stability and baseline levels of AVP correlated with AVP concentrations at the first and second post-administration hours regardless of drug condition (Pearson r = .85–.93). Validity of salivary AVP ELISA measurement was verified by demonstrating individual stability of salivary AVP over a six-month period (r = .70, p < .000) as well correlation with plasma levels over the same period (r = .32, p = .037) in a sample of 45 young adults who did not participate in the current study. Overall, findings suggest a potential crosstalk between OT and AVP and indicate that baseline levels of the two neuropeptides may shape the degree to which these systems respond to exogenous manipulation.  相似文献

This prospective study examined normalized stability differences based on dominance side and visual feedback. Subjects with low back pain (LBP) (n = 26; 9 men, 17 women) and without LBP (n = 28; 11 men, 17 women) participated in this study. All subjects were asked to maintain single leg standing balance with the contralateral hip flexed 90° for 25 s. The outcome measures included normalized holding duration and stability. The combined rotation (Rxyz) was also calculated to compare the upper and lower thorax and lumbar axes relative to the core spine axis. The holding duration was significantly different between groups (T = ?2.21, p = 0.03). The subjects without recurrent LBP (control group) demonstrated longer hold duration times (24.60 ± 4.2 s) than the subjects with recurrent LBP (21.2 ± 7.1 s). For the normalized hold duration, there was a significant difference between groups based on visual input (F = 7.13, p = 0.009). There was also a significant difference in standing stability based on visual input (F = 93.93, p = 0.0001) and trunk area (F = 101.51, p = 0.0001). In addition, the normalized stability was significantly different based on dominance and visual input (F = 11.28, p = 0.002). Therefore, trunk stability could prompt an uncoordinated bracing effect with poor proprioception from injury to passive structures or due to interference of pain during central processing of information in subjects with recurrent LBP.  相似文献

This study examined the validity of the twitch interpolation technique for evaluating side-to-side asymmetries in quadriceps neuromuscular function. Fifty-six subjects with a wide range of asymmetries (19 healthy, 24 with unilateral and 13 with bilateral anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction) took part in the study. Supramaximal electrical paired stimuli were delivered to the quadriceps muscle during and immediately after a maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of the knee extensors (twitch interpolation technique). MVC torque, voluntary activation and resting doublet-evoked torque were measured separately for the two sides, and percent side-to-side asymmetries were calculated for each parameter. MVC torque asymmetry was plotted against voluntary activation asymmetry and doublet-evoked torque asymmetry, and a multiple regression analysis was also conducted. Significant positive correlations were observed between MVC torque asymmetry and both voluntary activation asymmetry (r = 0.40; p = 0.002) and doublet-evoked torque asymmetry (r = 0.53; p < 0.001), and their relative contribution to MVC torque asymmetry was comparable (r = 0.64; p < 0.001). These results establish the validity of the twitch interpolation technique for the assessment of neuromuscular asymmetries. This methodology could provide useful insights into the contribution of some neural and muscular mechanisms that underlie quadriceps strength deficits.  相似文献

Purpose(1) Evaluate the reproducibility of segmentation methods depending on the preselection region for tumour volume determination on 18F-fluoro-ethyl-tyrosine (FET) PET. (2) Evaluate the intra and inter-operator reproducibility of the manual delineation. (3) Compare this delineation with the segmentation methods.Materials and methodsEighteen FET PET of patients with glioblastoma were analysed. Preselection regions were determined prior to any segmentation. Two physicians delineated the tumour volume manually. The tumour volume was also delineated with a threshold method (40 and 70% of SUVmax), and a random walk based method. Pearson coefficient (r) (P < 0.05 for r > 0.468) and Jaccard indices (JI) were used to compare the volumes.ResultsManual delineation was reproducible with r = 0.97 and IJ = 0.65 for intra-operator, and r = 0.76 and IJ = 0.45 for inter-operator reproducibility. The preselection regions for a given lesion were different and the segmentation varied with the preselection region: r = 0.55 JI = 0.58; r = 0.85 JI = 0.83; r = 0.70 JI = 0.39 respectively for the threshold of 40%, 70% and the random walk. The segmentation differed form de manual delineation with r = 0.37 and JI = 0.16; r = 0.54 and JI = 0.42; r = 0.43 and JI = 0.37 respectively for the threshold of 40%, 70% and the random walk.ConclusionThe reproducibility of the segmentation methods depends extensively on the preselection region. The intra-operator reproducibility of cerebral lesion delineation on FET PET is satisfactory. The inter-operator reproducibility could be improved.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo define an echocardiographically-assessed cut-off point for epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness associated to metabolic syndrome (MS) components in Venezuelan subjects.MethodsFifty-two subjects aged 20-65 years diagnosed with MS according to International Diabetes Federation criteria and 45 sex- and age-matched controls were selected. Blood glucose and plasma lipids were tested; EAT thickness and left ventricular mass were measured by echocardiography.ResultsNo significant age and sex differences were found between the two groups. Body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly higher (P = .0001) in the MS group. This group showed significantly higher levels of fasting blood glucose (P = .0001), total cholesterol (P = .002), LDL-C (P = .007), non-HDL-C (P = .0001), triglycerides (P = .0001), Tg-HDL-C ratio (P = .0001), and lower HDL-C levels (P = .0001) as compared to the control group. EAT thickness (P = .0001) and left ventricular mass (P = .017) were significantly higher in the MS group. The ROC curve showed an AUC of 0.852 (P = .0001) with a power of the test of 0.99. A 5-mm EAT thickness showed a sensitivity of 84.62% (95% CI: 71.9-93.1) and a specificity of 71.11% (95% CI: 55.7-83.6) for predicting MS. The odds ratio of this population for experiencing MS due to an EAT ≥ 5 mm was 8.25 (95% CI: 3.15-21.56; P = .0001).ConclusionAn EAT value ≥ 5 mm has good sensitivity and specificity for predicting MS in the Venezuelan population.  相似文献
