We developed the first tree-ring width chronology from Quercus brantii Lindel for the period 1796–2015 in the southern Zagros Mountains, Iran, using standard dendrochronological procedures. Climate-growth relationships revealed that DecemberöFebruary precipitation has strong positive effects (r = 0.66; P < 0.01) on the species’ growth while mean temperature during the growing season has strong negative effects. Spatial correlations with Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and gridded precipitation data revealed that the chronology contains regional climate signals and tree growth variations may represent precipitation fluctuations over large areas of the Middle East. The linear regression model accounts for 44% of the actual DecemberöFebruary precipitation variance. The reconstructed precipitation revealed that over the period 1850–2015 extreme dry years occurred in 1870-71, 1898, 1960 and 1963-64, and extreme wet years occurred in 1851, 1885, 1916 and 1921 in the southern Zagros region. The longest dry period lasted 16 years and occurred from 1958 to 1973. Two-year consecutive wet and dry events showed the highest frequencies and the average length of dry and wet events were 2.9 and 3.6 years over the reconstructed period. Correlations between the long-term reconstructed precipitation and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) confirmed the effects of teleconnection patterns on precipitation in the southern Zagros region.  相似文献

Knowledge of drought variability and their possible mechanisms during the past hundred years is still limited in the mountainous region of south-central Tibetan Plateau (TP). In this study, a long-term tree-ring width chronology dating back to 1190 CE was combined using 328 increment cores from the Nagqu region. Based on the relationships between this tree-ring width chronology and climate data, we reconstructed May–June self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index (scPDSI) for the past 821 years (1190–2010 CE). Additional comparisons with other available precipitation or drought reconstructions were conducted. We further investigated the influence of the South Asian summer monsoon (SASM) on the drought variability in our study region. Results indicated that our tree-ring width chronology contained stable drought signal in the early summer season (May–June). During the past 821 years, the longest dry and wet periods lasted for 116 and 90 years, respectively, based on a 21-year Fast Fourier transform filter. Specifically, longer than ten years’ dry periods prevailed during 1211–1245 CE, 1280–1358, 1421–1471, 1500–1571, 1580–1598, 1650–1691, 1782–1807 and 1867–1982; while wet intervals occurred in 1190–1210 CE, 1246–1279, 1359–1420, 1472–1499, 1599–1649, 1692–1781, 1808–1866 and 1983–2010. Generally consistent dry and wet intervals across the southern TP were found by comparisons with other available datasets during their common periods. Interestingly, we detected an unstable influence of the SASM on the May–June drought variability in our study region, at least for the past three and a half centuries. This study therefore gives a new perspective of drought variability as well as their relationships with the SASM over a long-term period on the south-central TP.  相似文献

The study tested an alternative method for the evaluation of habitat preferences of wisents (Bison bonasus) based upon possibly non-biased dataset – presence only data. Data on spatial distribution of free-ranging wisents (3055 individual presence records) were collected over a period of 10 years in the Bieszczady Mountains, south-eastern Poland. Using a nonparametric method of kernel estimators, the density of animal occurrence was calculated. The obtained dot map distribution allowed for spatial analyses of seasonal (winter and vegetative) presence that is related to environmental parameters such as the type of forest stand, dominating tree species, terrain and aspect. According to the final log-linear model, based upon presence-only data, significant differences exist in wisent seasonal preferences for habitat type. Wisents were more commonly found, in both winter and vegetative seasons, on sites with broken canopy closure (85.71% and 86.44%, respectively), as well as on slopes with steepness of 13-17o, with rate of presence of 89.83% and 91.84%, respectively. The most frequented tree association was alnus/pine irrespective of season. During both seasons, the percentage of records of wisent presence was the highest within sites of north aspect (93.22% in winter and 93.88% in vegetative), and on sloping terrain (94.92% and 93.88%, respectively), rather than within valleys or areas of relative flatness. The obtained results allow identification of conditions optimal for those animals unbiased by subjective evaluation of habitat conditions. This approach can be crucial in selecting sites potentially suitable for future reintroductions of wisents in the whole Carpathian range.  相似文献

This study examines the efficacy of published δ18O data from the calcite of Late Miocene surface dwelling planktonic foraminifer shells, for sea surface temperature estimates for the pre-Quaternary. The data are from 33 Late Miocene (Messinian) marine sites from a modern latitudinal gradient of 64°N to 48°S. They give estimates of SSTs in the tropics/subtropics (to 30°N and S) that are mostly cooler than present. Possible causes of this temperature discrepancy are ecological factors (e.g. calcification of shells at levels below the ocean mixed layer), taphonomic effects (e.g. diagenesis or dissolution), inaccurate estimation of Late Miocene seawater oxygen isotope composition, or a real Late Miocene cool climate. The scale of apparent cooling in the tropics suggests that the SST signal of the foraminifer calcite has been reset, at least in part, by early diagenetic calcite with higher δ18O, formed in the foraminifer shells in cool sea bottom pore waters, probably coupled with the effects of calcite formed below the mixed layer during the life of the foraminifera. This hypothesis is supported by the markedly cooler SST estimates from low latitudes—in some cases more than 9 °C cooler than present—where the gradients of temperature and the δ18O composition of seawater between sea surface and sea bottom are most marked, and where ocean surface stratification is high. At higher latitudes, particularly N and S of 30°, the temperature signal is still cooler, though maximum temperature estimates overlap with modern SSTs N and S of 40°. Comparison of SST estimates for the Late Miocene from alkenone unsaturation analysis from the eastern tropical Atlantic at Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 958—which suggest a warmer sea surface by 2-4 °C, with estimates from oxygen isotopes at Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) Site 366 and ODP Site 959, indicating cooler than present SSTs, also suggest a significant impact on the δ18O signal. Nevertheless, much of the original SST variation is clearly preserved in the primary calcite formed in the mixed layer, and records secular and temporal oceanographic changes at the sea surface, such as movement of the Antarctic Polar Front in the Southern Ocean. Cooler SSTs in the tropics and sub-tropics are also consistent with the Late Miocene latitude reduction in the coral reef belt and with interrupted reef growth on the Queensland Plateau of eastern Australia, though it is not possible to quantify absolute SSTs with the existing oxygen isotope data. Reconstruction of an accurate global SST dataset for Neogene time-slices from the existing published DSDP/ODP isotope data, for use in general circulation models, may require a detailed re-assessment of taphonomy at many sites.  相似文献

This paper presents results of data collection regarding congenital heart defects (CHD) for the Polish Registry of Congenital Malformations (PRCM) from the Podkarpacie province in 2002-2004. Routine methods (fetal echocardiography, clinical examination) and recently also unique methods (screening echocardiography and pulse oximetry) were used for early detection of critical cardiac malformations. Critical CHD were detected there in 107 newborns in 2002-2004, so the mean prevalence reached 1.71/1000. Within this group, death rate decreased from 8 deaths in 2002 to 2 deaths in 2004, mainly thanks to improved detection and treatment of CHD.  相似文献

The mechanical inhomogeneity of the respiratory system is frequently investigated by measuring the frequency dependence of dynamic compliance, but no data are currently available describing the effects of body temperature variations. The aim of the present report was to study those effects in vivo. Peak airway pressure was measured during positive pressure ventilation in eight anesthetized rats while breathing frequency (but not tidal volume) was altered. Dynamic compliance was calculated as the tidal volume/peak airway pressure, and measurements were taken in basal conditions (mean rectal temperature 37.3 °C) as well as after total body warming (mean rectal temperature 39.7 °C). Due to parenchymal mechanical inhomogeneity and stress relaxation-linked effects, the normal rat respiratory system exhibited frequency dependence of dynamic lung compliance. Even moderate body temperature increments significantly reduced the decrements in dynamic compliance linked to breathing rate increments. The results were analyzed using Student’s and Wilcoxon’s tests, which yielded the same results (p < 0.05). Body temperature variations are known to influence respiratory mechanics. The frequency dependence of dynamic compliance was found, in the experiments described, to be temperature-dependent as temperature variations affected parenchymal mechanical inhomogeneity and stress relaxation. These results suggest that body temperature variations should be taken into consideration when the dynamic compliance–breathing frequency relationship is being examined during clinical assessment of inhomogeneity of lung parenchyma in patients.  相似文献

Microbiological and enzyme activities of extrazonal taiga-steppe soils in the lower reaches of the Kolyma River have been studied for the first time. Contrary to north-taiga cryometamorphic soils, predominating in the area, microbial cenoses under herb–sedge petrophytic and grass–sagebrush–herb thermophytic steppes are characterized by features typical for arid soils. The saturation of the soil profile with microorganisms is greater, and the development of actinomycetes is more intensive. The enzyme complex is characterized by high activity of dehydrogenases.  相似文献

We developed a high quality reconstruction of May–June precipitation for the interior region of southwestern Turkey using regional tree-ring data calibrated with meteorological data from Burdur. In this study, three new climate sensitive black pine chronologies were built. In addition to new chronologies, four previously published black pine chronologies were used for the reconstruction. Two separate reconstructions were developed. The first reconstruction used all site chronologies over the common interval AD 1813–2004. The second reconstruction used four of the chronologies with a common interval AD 1692–2004. R 2 values of the reconstructions were 0.64 and 0.51 with RE values of 0.63 and 0.51, respectively. During the period AD 1692–1938, 41 dry and 48 wet events were found. Very dry years occurred in AD 1725, 1814, 1851, 1887, 1916, and 1923, while very wet years occurred in AD 1736, 1780, 1788, 1803, and 1892. The longest dry period was 16 years long between 1860 and 1875. We then explored relationships between the reconstructed rainfall patterns and major volcanic eruptions, and discovered that wetter than normal years occurred during or immediately after the years with the largest volcanic eruptions.  相似文献

The duration of sperm motility in four whitefish species in the Ob–Irtysh basin, namely, Coregonus tugun, the river and lake forms of C. peled, C. lavaretus pidschian, and C. nasus, has been studied. It is shown that the duration of sperm motility in these species has a statistically significant inversely proportional dependence on the temperature of the water that is used for activation. The total duration of sperm motility at the spawning temperature in the range from 0.1 to 5.0°C amounts to 331 ± 107 s, on average, while the duration of forward movement amounts to 149 ± 44 s, on average. At temperatures that exceed the spawning values (above 7.1°C), these parameters constitute 190 ± 47 and 86 ± 15 s, respectively. The highest interspecific variability in the duration of sperm motility was observed within the temperature range from 0.1 to 2.5 and above 7.1°C. C. tugun shows less dependence of the duration of sperm motility on temperature than the other species under study. At a temperature of 0.7°C, the total duration and duration of the forward movement of C. tugun sperm are 201 and 108 s, respectively. When the temperature was increased to 13.4°C, these parameters decreased by 1.2 and 1.1 times only, i.e., to 172 and 100 s, respectively.  相似文献

The converging performance of culture industry and financial industry in Beijing is an essential method to transform the way of Beijing economic development and promote culture industry into an economic pillar industry of Beijing. Based on this, this paper starts from the convergence status quo of culture industry and finance industry in Beijing, adopts Herfindahl–Hirschman Index (HHI) and input–output analysis to respectively study the converging degree between them. The results are that the converging degree of them is not high, the financial contribution to the industry convergence is not enough and the converging performance is far from expectations for government. In conclusion, this paper puts forward some policy suggestions to improve the convergence of culture industry and finance industry in Beijing.  相似文献

Various factors can modify the health effects of temperature. Prior findings about modifiers are inconsistent, and such studies have been conducted mostly in developed countries. We conducted a time-series analysis to examine the modifying effect of gender, age and education on the association between temperature and daily mortality in Shanghai, China, using 4 years (2001–2004) of daily data. A natural spline model was used to analyze the data. Elderly subjects were found to be more vulnerable to temperature health effects compared with younger people. We observed no significant modifying effect of gender or education level. These findings may provide useful information for local governments seeking to take steps to protect vulnerable sub-populations.  相似文献

Enthalpy–entropy compensation supposes that differences in activation enthalpy ?H ? for different reactions (or, typically in biochemistry, the same reaction catalysed by enzymes obtained from different species) may be compensated for by differences in activation entropy ?S ?. At the isokinetic temperature the compensation is exact, so that all samples have the same activity. These ideas have been controversial for several decades, but examples are still frequently reported as evidence of a real phenomenon, nearly all of the reports ignoring or discounting the possibility of a statistical artefact. Even for measurements in pure chemistry artefacts occur often, and they are almost inescapable in enzyme kinetics and other fields that involve biological macromolecules, on account of limited stability and the fact that kinetic equations are normally valid only over a restricted range of temperature. Here I review the current status and correct an error in a recent book chapter.  相似文献

This study concerns the stand-scale palaeoecological reconstruction of the subsequent stages of late Holocene vegetation development on habitats recently covered by beech-dominated woodland in the southern Baltic region. The data, based on pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, macrofossil and charcoal analyses from two close-lying sites, demonstrated that each of the subsequent late Holocene shifts in dominating forest communities took place because of human impact coupled with climatic events or episodic human-made disturbances. Shifts from the Tilia dominated forest to the Quercus-Corylus plant community at around 3300 bc was most probably driven by the coupled effect of climate change and human activity. Human impact was the primary driver of the final Corylus decline and concurrent major Carpinus expansion at c. 460 bc, and the Carpinus decline followed by Fagus expansion at c. ad 900. Carpinus had been lingering on the edge of a major expansion in the local forest for at least 2,500 years while Fagus had persisted in a small admixture for no fewer than 1,500 years before becoming important forest constituents. Our data illustrate the role of episodic disturbances as turning points that initiate long-term vegetation changes.  相似文献

Hydrochemical and microbiological investigation in the Kola Bay in 2002–2003 demonstrated that the distribution of bacteria is notably influenced by biogeochemical barriers formed by mixing fresh and sea water. Seasonal changes in the appearance of filterable bacteria, considerable quantities of gram-positive bacteria with thick cell walls, dwarf bacteria, spheroplasts, elementary bodies, and cells with abnormal cell walls during the polar night have been revealed. Cultured bacterial colonies were represented by polymorphic cells. The data obtained refine our knowledge about organotrophic activity of bacterioplankton during the polar night.  相似文献

The dose–response curves for IAA-induced growth in maize coleoptile segments were studied as a function of time and temperature. In addition, the kinetics of growth rate responses at some auxin concentrations and temperatures was also compared. It was found that the dose–response curves for IAA-induced elongation growth were, independently of time and temperature, bell-shaped with an optimal concentration at 10−5 M IAA. The kinetics of IAA-induced growth rate responses depended on IAA concentration and temperature, and could be separated into two phases (biphasic reaction). The first phase (very rapid) was followed by a long lasting one (second phase), which began about 30 min after auxin addition. For coleoptile segments incubated at 30°C, the amplitudes of the first and second phase were significantly higher, when compared with 25°C, at all IAA concentrations studied. However, when coleoptile segments were incubated at 20°C, the elongation growth of coleoptile segments treated with suboptimal IAA concentrations was diminished, mainly as a result of both phases reduction. In conclusion, we propose that the shape of the dose–response curves for IAA-induced growth in maize coleoptile segments is connected with biphasic kinetic of growth rate response.  相似文献
