The extensor tendons to the fingers were studied in dissections of 50 fresh cadaveric hands, and the divisions of the tendons, as well as the communications (juncturae), were analyzed. The pattern of distribution most frequently observed was as follows. The extensor digitorum communis provided one tendon to the index finger, one to the middle finger, two to the ring finger, and none to the little finger. The extensor indicis exhibited one tendon, whereas the extensor digiti minimi exhibited two tendons. The extensor indicis tendon was always observed to lack a junctura tendinum. The extensor indicis was absent in both hands of one cadaver. A tendon slip from the extensor digiti minimi to the ring finger was observed in one hand. All surgeons must bear in mind the existence of these variations when performing common tendon transfers.  相似文献

Finger length and distal finger extent patterns in humans   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
The fingers in the adult human hand differ in length and in distal extent. The literature agrees that in the clear majority of males, the distal extent of the ring finger tends to be relatively greater (using the middle finger as standard) than the index finger. However, the results for females vary considerably, with some studies reporting that females show a similar pattern to that of males, while others suggest that the prevalence of a longer index finger is relatively or absolutely more common in females. We provide a review of the literature, and a set of data for both finger length and distal fingertip extent of the finger for a contemporary cohort of young adult females and males (n = 502). Finger length measures favor the ring finger of both sexes, with smaller between-finger differences for females than for males. However, while the distal fingertip extent favors the ring finger of both hands in males, in females the left hand shows no significant differences, and the right hand shows a small index finger advantage. Thus, the sexual dimorphism in finger measures is more strongly expressed in the distal extent of fingertips than in the length of fingers. The sex differences in distal fingertip extent derive from the index finger only, with a lesser distal extent of the index finger, relative to the middle finger, in males than in females.  相似文献

When developing a humanoid myo-control hand, not only the mechanical structure should be considered to afford a highdexterity, but also the myoelectric (electromyography,EMG) control capability should be taken into account to fully accomplishthe actuation tasks. This paper presents a novel humanoid robotic myocontrol hand (AR hand Ⅲ) which adopted an underac-tuated mechanism and a forearm myocontrol EMG method. The AR hand Ⅲ has five fingers and 15 joints, and actuated by threeembedded motors.Underactuation can be found within each finger and between the rest three fingers (the middle finger, the ringfinger and the little finger) when the hand is grasping objects. For the EMG control, two specific methods are proposed:thethree-fingered hand gesture configuration of the AR hand Ⅲ and a pattern classification method of EMG signals based on astatistical learning algorithm-Support Vector Machine (SVM).Eighteen active hand gestures of a testee are recognized ef-fectively,which can be directly mapped into the motions of AR hand Ⅲ.An on-line EMG control scheme is established basedon two different decision functions:one is for the discrimination between the idle and active modes, the other is for the recog-nition of the active modes. As a result, the AR hand Ⅲ can swiftly follow the gesture instructions of the testee with a time delayless than 100 ms.  相似文献

This study investigates the role of cutaneous feedback on maximum voluntary force (MVF), finger force deficit (FD) and finger independence (FI). FD was calculated as the difference between the sum of maximal individual finger forces during single-finger pressing tasks and the maximal force produced by those fingers during an all-finger pressing task. FI was calculated as the average non-task finger forces normalized by the task-finger forces and subtracted from 100 percent. Twenty young healthy right-handed males participated in the study. Cutaneous feedback was removed by administering ring block digital anesthesia on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th digits of the right hands. Subjects were asked to press force sensors with maximal effort using individual digits as well as all four digits together, with and without cutaneous feedback. Results from the study showed a 25% decrease in MVF for the individual fingers as well as all the four fingers pressing together after the removal of cutaneous feedback. Additionally, more than 100% increase in FD after the removal of cutaneous feedback was observed in the middle and ring fingers. No changes in FI values were observed between the two conditions. Results of this study suggest that the central nervous system utilizes cutaneous feedback and the feedback mechanism plays a critical role in maximal voluntary force production by the hand digits.  相似文献

In the human hand, independent movement control of individual fingers is limited. One potential cause for this is mechanical connections between the tendons and muscle bellies corresponding to the different fingers. The aim of this study was to determine the tendon displacement of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) of both the instructed and the neighboring, non-instructed fingers during single finger flexion movements. In nine healthy subjects (age 22–29 years), instructed and non-instructed FDS finger tendon displacement of the index, middle and ring finger was measured using 2D ultrasound analyzed with speckle tracking software in two conditions: active flexion of all finger joints with all fingers free to move and active flexion while the non-instructed fingers were restricted. Our results of the free movement protocol showed an average tendon displacement of 27 mm for index finger flexion, 21 mm for middle finger flexion and 17 mm for ring finger flexion. Displacements of the non-instructed finger tendons (≈12 mm) were higher than expected based of the amount of non-instructed finger movement. In the restricted protocol, we found that, despite minimal joint movements, substantial non-instructed finger tendon displacement (≈9 mm) was still observed, which was interpreted as a result of tendon strain. When this strain component was subtracted from the tendon displacement of the non-instructed fingers during the free movement condition, the relationship between finger movement and tendon displacement of the instructed and non-instructed finger became comparable. Thus, when studying non-instructed finger tendon displacement it is important to take tendon strain into consideration.  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their nitro derivatives are culprits of the detrimental health effects of environmental pollution. These hydrophobic compounds metabolize to reactive species and attach to DNA producing bulky lesions, such as N-[deoxyguanosine-8-yl]-1-aminopyrene (APG), in genomic DNA. The bulky adducts block DNA replication by high-fidelity polymerases and compromise replication fidelities and efficiencies by specialized lesion bypass polymerases. Here we present three crystal structures of the DNA polymerase Dpo4, a model translesion DNA polymerase of the Y family, in complex with APG-lesion-containing DNA in pre-insertion and extension stages. APG is captured in two conformations in the pre-insertion complex; one is highly exposed to the solvent, whereas the other is harbored in a shallow cleft between the finger and unique Y family little finger domain. In contrast, APG is in a single conformation at the extension stage, in which the pyrene ring is sandwiched between the little finger domain and a base from the turning back single-stranded template strand. Strikingly, a nucleotide intercalates the DNA helix to form a quaternary complex with Dpo4, DNA, and an incoming nucleotide, which stabilizes the distorted DNA structure at the extension stage. The unique APG DNA conformations in Dpo4 inhibit DNA translocation through the polymerase active site for APG bypass. We also modeled an insertion complex that illustrates a solvent-exposed pyrene ring contributing to an unstable insertion state. The structural work combined with our lesion replication assays provides a novel structural mechanism on bypass of DNA adducts containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon moieties.  相似文献

We recorded somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) in scalp EEGs during stimulation of the median nerve, the ulnar nerve and the individual digits in 3 normal subjects and in 1 epilepsy patients. In this patient we also measured SEPs from chronically indwelling subdural grid electrodes during electrocorticography (ECoG). We applied dipole modelling techniques to study the 3-dimensional intracerebral locations and time activities of the neuronal sources underlying stimulation of different peripheral receptive fields. The sources underlying median nerve SEPs were located an average of 10.8 mm lateral inferior to those underlying ulnar nerve SEPs. Digit SEP sources showed a somatotopic arrangement from lateral inferior to medial superior in the order thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger and little finger, with some overlap or reversal for adjacent digits. The average distance between thumb and little finger was 12.5 mm. Thumb, index finger and middle finger were clustered around median nerve cortical representation, whereas ring finger and little finger were arranged around ulnar nerve cortex. In the epilepsy patient, the source localizations obtained in scalp EEGs showed good agreement with those on ECoGs. We conclude that SEPs recorded in scalp EEGs can be used to study functional topography of human somatosensory cortex non-invasively.  相似文献

The dorsal skin of the index ray is very useful (1) for a one-staged thumb lengthening procedure after amputation, (2) for covering the stump of an avulsed thumb with sensory skin, and (3) for expanding the first web space. The flap may be transferred as a rotation flap, or the dorsal vasculature and nerve supply to the index may be carefully dissected free as a pedicle to permit its use as a neurovascular island flap. We believe that considerably more sensory skin can be transferred by this flap than by the ring finger neurovascular island flap, and that the technical risks and surgical time are less with the index finger flap.  相似文献

The thermal response of fingers exposed to cold weather conditions has been simulated. Energy balance equations were formulated, in a former study, for the tissue layers and the arterial, venous, and capillary blood vessels. The equations were solved by a finite difference scheme using the Thomas algorithm and the method of alternating directions. At this stage of development the model does not include any autonomic control functions. Model simulations assumed an electrical heating element to be embedded in the glove layers applied on the finger. A 1.3 W power input was calculated for maintaining finger temperatures at their pre-cold exposure level in a 0 degree C environment. Alternate assumptions of nutritional (low) and basal (high) blood flows in the finger demonstrated the dominance of this factor in maintaining finger temperatures at comfortable levels. Simulated exposures to still and windy air, at 4.17 m/s (15 km/h), indicated the profound chilling effects of wind on fingers in cold environments. Finally, the effects of variable blood flow in the finger, known as "cold-induced vasodilatation," were also investigated. Blood flow variations were assumed to be represented by periodic, symmetric triangular waves allowing for gradual opening-closing cycles of blood supply to the tip of the finger. Results of this part of the simulation were compared with measured records of bare finger temperatures. Good conformity was obtained for a plausible pattern of change in blood flow, which was assumed to be provided in its entirety to the tip of the finger alone.  相似文献

Characterization of the translocon of the outer envelope of chloroplasts   总被引:14,自引:0,他引:14
The protein translocon of the outer envelope of chloroplasts (Toc) consists of the core subunits Toc159, Toc75, and Toc34. To investigate the molecular structure, the core complex was purified. This core complex has an apparent molecular mass of approximately 500 kD and a molecular stoichiometry of 1:4:4-5 between Toc159, Toc75, and Toc34. The isolated translocon recognizes both transit sequences and precursor proteins in a GTP-dependent manner, suggesting its functional integrity. The complex is embedded by the lipids phosphatidylcholine and digalactosyldiacylglyceride. Two-dimensional structural analysis by EM revealed roughly circular particles consistent with the formation of a stable core complex. The particles show a diameter of approximately 130 A with a solid ring and a less dense interior structure. A three-dimensional map obtained by random conical tilt reconstruction of electron micrographs suggests that a "finger"-like central region separates four curved translocation channels within one complex.  相似文献

This paper reports the configuration of metacarpo-phalangeal creases and describes a technique to obtain adequate prints thereof. Metacarpo-phalangeal creases may be classified into the boundary, ring and accessory crease. Generally only the middle and ring-finger possess ring creases. The ring crease index, which depends on the position of the ring crease, is obtained on the middle finger. No significant differences are recognizable in the indices between males and females, and between right and left hands.  相似文献

In a majority of studies on grasp, only normal forces were measured and only when a zero torque was exerted on a hand-held object. This study concerns finger force vectors during the torque production tasks. Subjects (n=8) stabilized a handle with an attachment that allowed for change of external torque from -1.5 to 1.5 Nm. Forces and moments exerted by the digit tips on the object were recorded. At the large (>-0.375 Nm) supination torques the index/middle and ring/little pairs of fingers generated oppositely directed tangential forces. The index and middle finger produced forces in a downward direction and therefore did not support the load. At a zero torque and pronation torques, the middle, ring and little fingers produced forces along nearly the same direction. The vector of the index finger force was always directed differently from the vectors of other finger forces, the angles ranged from 19 degrees 30' to 47 degrees 40'. The points of force application were systematically displaced with the torque, with the exception of the little finger. Tangential finger forces contributed substantially to the total torque exerted on the hand-held object.  相似文献

The classical Zn finger contains a phenylalanine at the crux of its three architectural elements: a beta-hairpin, an alpha-helix, and a Zn(2+)-binding site. Surprisingly, phenylalanine is not required for high-affinity Zn2+ binding, but instead contributes to the specification of a precise DNA-binding surface. Substitution of phenylalanine by leucine leads to a floppy but native-like structure whose Zn affinity is maintained by marked entropy-enthalpy compensation (DeltaDeltaH -8.3 kcal/mol and -TDeltaDeltaS 7.7 kcal/mol). Phenylalanine and leucine differ in shape, size, and aromaticity. To distinguish which features correlate with dynamic stability, we have investigated a nonstandard finger containing cyclohexanylalanine at this site. The structure of the nonstandard finger is similar to that of the native domain. The cyclohexanyl ring assumes a chair conformation, and conformational fluctuations characteristic of the leucine variant are damped. Although the nonstandard finger exhibits a lower affinity for Zn2+ than does the native domain (DeltaDeltaG -1.2 kcal/mol), leucine-associated perturbations in enthalpy and entropy are almost completely attenuated (DeltaDeltaH -0.7 kcal/mol and -TDeltaDeltaS -0.5 kcal/mol). Strikingly, global changes in entropy (as inferred from calorimetry) are in each case opposite in sign from changes in configurational entropy (as inferred from NMR). This seeming paradox suggests that enthalpy-entropy compensation is dominated by solvent reorganization rather than nominal molecular properties. Together, these results demonstrate that dynamic and thermodynamic perturbations correlate with formation or repair of a solvated packing defect rather than type of physical interaction (aromatic or aliphatic) within the core.  相似文献

Recent findings suggest that Ring finger protein 146 (RNF146), also called Iduna, have neuroprotective property due to its inhibition of Parthanatos via binding with Poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR). The Parthanatos is a PAR dependent cell death that has been implicated in many human diseases. RNF146/Iduna acts as a PARsylation-directed E3 ubquitin ligase to mediate tankyrase-dependent degradation of axin, thereby positively regulates Wnt signaling. RNF146/Iduna can also facilitate DNA repair and protect against cell death induced by DNA damaging agents or γ-irradiation. It can translocate to the nucleus after cellular injury and promote the ubiquitination and degradation of various nuclear proteins involved in DNA damage repair. The PARsylation-directed ubquitination mediated by RNF146/Iduna is analogous to the phosphorylation-directed ubquitination catalyzed by Skp1-Cul1-F-box (SCF) E3 ubiquitin complex. RNF146/Iduna has been found to be implicated in neurodegenerative disease and cancer development. Therefore modulation of the PAR-binding and PARsylation dependent E3 ligase activity of RNF146/Iduna could have therapeutic significance for diseases, in which PAR and PAR-binding proteins play key pathophysiologic roles.Key words: E3 ubquitin ligase, ring finger protein 146, PAR-binding proteins, PARsylation, Parthanatos inhibitors, ubiquitinationRing finger proteins contain ring fingers, which are considered to be the functional module for E3 ubiquitin ligase activity.1,2 Ring finger protein 146 (RNF146), a novel PARsylation-directed ring finger E3 ubiquitin ligase, is located at 6q22.1-q22.33 of human chromosome.3 RNF146 encodes a protein of 359 amino acids with a predicted molecular weight of 39.8 kDa.3 The molecular structure of RNF146 contains one N-terminus C3HC4 ring finger domain (35–77 aa) as well as one WWE domain (91–167 aa).3 The poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR) binding motif (144–167 aa) at the tail of WWE domain of RNF146 is involved in various important functions. We have identified a similarity between the apical domain of the human transferrin receptor and several other protein families. This domain is found associated with two different families of peptidases. Therefore, we term it the PA domain for protease-associated domain. The PA domain is found inserted within a loop of the peptidase domain of family M8/M33 zinc peptidases. The PA domain is also found in a vacuolar sorting receptor and a ring finger protein of unknown function that may be a cell surface receptor. The PA domain may mediate substrate determination of peptidases or form protein-protein interactions.  相似文献
