Archigregarines are considered one of the most plesiomorphic groups of Apicomplexa. Until recently, however, this viewpoint was based mainly on the results of the detailed investigation of a single species, Selenidium hollandei. The present study of the fine structure of trophozoites of another archigregarine species Selenidium orientale Bogolepova, 1953. (Apicomplexa, Archigregarinida, as proposed by Grassé and Schrével), with special reference to the forebody structure of the attached individuals, allows more confident discussion of the plesiomorphic status of the archigregarines. Specimens of S. orientale were collected from the midgut of the Pacific sipunculid Themiste pyroides Chamberlain, 1920. The ultrastructure of the trophozoites generally corresponds to that of other studied species of Selenidium. Differences in the forebody structure between S. orientale and S. hollandei do not conflict with Schrével's hypothesis on the feeding function of the apical complex in archigregarine trophozoites, although they suggest that, in S. orientale at least, the cytostome is not a persistent structure, but re-opens for each sucking event, and Selenidium trophozoites feed by intermittent sucking of host cytoplasm. Microtubules in the axial zone of the mucron neck may mediate the transport of food vacuoles.  相似文献

Ultrastructural studies of both young and harvest-ripe avocadofruits have established that the skin and outer green layersof flesh contain chloroplasts with an extensive thylakoid system.Etioplasts occur in the yellow flesh adjacent to the stone.The pale-green flesh contains plastids, intermediate betweenchloroplasts and etioplasts, which have prominent prolamellarbodies from which radiate grana. When segments of both the yellow and pale-green flesh of maturefruit (7 cm diam.) are cultured in the light their prolamellarbodies do not disperse although there is a change in their crystallinity.The palegreen tissues of immature (4 mm and 2 cm diam.) fruitsalso contain etioplasts but on culturing these differentiateinto chloroplasts. Both chlorophyll content and the ratio ofchlorophyll a to b varied in the different tissues of youngand mature fruits.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Thin sections of Lankesterella garnhami were examined by electron microscope and the morphology of trophozoites and sporozoites is described. The envelope of the organism consists of a double membrane, which (in the presumed sporozoite) is broken at one point posteriorly by the microphyle. The anterior end possesses characteristic organelles, which include an open apical ring leading to a collar or conoid and to 30 peripheral fibrils, a paired organelle, and numerous "lankesterellonemes." Typical mitochondria and a Golgi apparatus are found in the cytoplasm and a nucleus of heterogeneous nature.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Oxytricha fallax and Stylonychia pustulata possess 6 rows of dorsal bristle units. Each dorsal bristle unit consists of a pair of kinetosomes; the anterior kinetosome has a cilium and the posterior kinetosome a ciliary stub. The kinetosome pair, located at the bottom of a cortical pit surrounding the cilium and ciliary stub, is surrounded by an asymmetrical fibrillar mass. Future rows 1-4 are formed from 2 sets of primordia originating within mature dorsal rows 1-3. Rows 5 and 6 originate from the anterior regions of both right marginal cirral primordia. Old dorsal bristle units utilized in formation of primordia are presumably maintained in the new rows of the proter and opisthe; those outside the primordia are resorbed. The morphogenetic pattern of the Oxytrichidae is similar to those of the Urostylidae and Holostichidae, but quite different from that of the Euplotidae.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. The trophozoite of Rhynchocystis pilosa obtained from the seminal vesicles of the earthworm Lumbricus terrestris was studied by light and electron microscopy. The trophozoite's cortical organization is particularly interesting because of its unusual evaginations and associated fibrillar structures. The pellicle is formed by 2 concentric membranes elevated into 60–70 alternating primary and secondary ridges extending posteriad. Numerous long ‘hairs’ or cytopilia originate along the primary ridges and each contains a system of fibrils originating from an underlying longitudinal myoneme. Longitudinal rows of pores lie between adjacent pollicular ridges. Three systems of fibrils lie in the cortex of the trophozoite. A longitudinal myoneme consisting of 12–18 fibrils lies below each primary pellicular ridge. Circular myonemes lie below the pellicle in a parallel array along the length of the organism. Each myoneme consists of 4–8 fibrils structurally similar to those of the longitudinal myonemes. Pairs of fine filaments also lie in the inner pellicular membrane along the apex of each ridge. The trophozoite's anterior end is modified as an attachment organelle consisting of 30–35 delicate pellicular folds which originate at the base of an anterior papilla. The folds extend approximately 15 μ posteriad where they become continuous with the primary pellicular ridges. The nucleus lies in the cytoplasm near the posterior level of the attachment organelle and is surrounded by a double membrane perforated by numerous pores. The cytoplasm contains numerous small vesicles which may be found in dense aggregations. These aggregations often occur in proximity to Golgi complexes and certain membrane-bound bodies. Mitochondria are abundant in the cytoplasm as are large, ovoid paraglycogen bodies. Occasionally layers of granular membranes are arranged parallel to the surface of the paraglycogen bodies but also occur thruout the cytoplasm.  相似文献

Micro-structures of the valve, girdle and old valve jacket of Melosira arenaria Moore collected from the mudstone beds of Shanwang formation in Shanwang village, Linqu Xian, Shandong Province, PRC., have been observed under the optical microscope and SEM. The author found that the ornamentation of this diatom is quite similar on the girdie of different frustules, but rather variable on their valves. These variable structure can be classified into three types: 1. long striate type; 2. short striate type; 3, long wedge-shaped type. Furthermore, the fundamental structures of M. arenaria are very similar to that of M. teres, M. sol, and M. polaris. Thus we may consider that they are affinities in the phylogeny of algae.  相似文献

An electron microscope study has been made of octopus and amphibian photoreceptors, after fixing with KMnO4 and embedding in araldite. What has previously been seen as a single dense stratum bounding the tubular compartments (octopus) or the double membrane discs (rods and cones), now shows a double structure. We interpret this as showing that these tubules and discs have similar bounding surfaces, which are probably directly related to the cell membrane. This is confirmed by the finding that the tubules and discs are (at least occasionally) continuous with the cell membrane.  相似文献

珍贵药材黄花倒水莲的群落结构及物种多样性研究   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
黄花倒水莲系华南民间常用且珍贵中药材。采用样方调查法对福建省三明地区黄花倒水莲群落的植物组成、群落结构和物种多样性进行了分析。结果表明,在26个样方、共计2600m2的样地内,群落有维管植物89科167属205种。种子植物属的区系成分划分为12个分布型和8个变型,热带性分布属稍占优势,占总属数的57.85%;温带性成分占总属数的40.7%。生活型谱分析显示群落包括藤本在内的高位芽植物占总种数的58.53%,其中以小高位芽和矮高位芽植物占优势;地面芽和地上芽占较大比例,以蕨类植物和多年生草本植物为主,地下芽和1年生植物很少。群落垂直结构分为乔木层、灌木层和草本层。物种丰富度指数、Simpson指数、Shannon-Wiener指数和Pielou均匀度指数分析表明:群落垂直结构多样性特点为草本层>灌木层>乔木层>层外层,草本层的各项多样性指数均显著大于其他层次。为黄花倒水莲人工栽培选择适生环境提供参考,提出了开发利用和资源保护的建议。  相似文献

Although archigregarines are poorly understood intestinal parasites of marine invertebrates, they are critical for understanding the earliest stages in the evolution of the Apicomplexa. Previous studies suggest that archigregarines are a paraphyletic stem group from which other lineages of gregarines, and possibly all other groups of apicomplexans, evolved. However, substantiating this inference is difficult because molecular phylogenetic data from archigregarines, in particular, and other gregarines, in general, are severely limited. In an attempt to help fill gaps in our knowledge of archigregarine diversity and phylogeny, we set out to discover and characterize novel lineages of archigregarines with high-resolution light and scanning electron microscopy and analyses of small subunit (SSU) rDNA sequences derived from single-cell (SC) PCR techniques. Here, we describe two novel species of Selenidium, namely Selenidium idanthyrsae n. sp. and S. boccardiellae n. sp., and demonstrate the surface morphology and molecular phylogenetic position of the previously reported species S. cf. mesnili. We also describe a novel genus of archigregarine, Veloxidium leptosynaptae n. gen., n. sp., which branches with an environmental sequence and, together, forms the nearest sister lineage to a diverse clade of marine eugregarines (i.e. lecudinids and urosporids). This molecular phylogenetic result is consistent with the hypothesis that archigregarines are deeply paraphyletic within apicomplexans, and suggests that convergent evolution played an important role in shaping the diversity of eugregarine trophozoites.  相似文献

Endothelium of large arteries from several species was studied in thin sections with the electron microscope. Before sacrifice, some animals received an intravenous injection of colloidal thorium dioxide which was visualized in the sections. Surface replicas were prepared by carbon evaporation on either frozen-dried endothelium or on endothelium dried by sublimation of naphthalene with which the tissue had been impregnated. Cell boundaries, stained with silver, were observed in sections and also from the surface by stripping off the inner part of the endothelium. In addition to the usual cytoplasmic organelles, the endothelial cells showed certain characteristic features, namely, large invaginated pockets communicating with the arterial lumen, numerous much smaller vesicular structures immediately under the plasma membrane and apparently also communicating with the lumen, and inclusions, into which injected thorium particles were incorporated. Intercellular boundaries appeared as regular double membranes in thin sections, and they were outlined by a double row of silver granules after silver staining. No evidence was obtained of permeation of intracellular spaces by colloidal thorium.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Changes in fine structure have been followed in mesophyll cellsof attached and detached cucumber cotyledons from maturity at16–20 days to an advanced stage of senescence at 50 days.From about 25 days in the attached cotyledons, the chloroplastthylakoids gradually disappear and large osmiophilic globulesaccumulate in the stroma, which itself is reduced in density.At the same time the ribosomes are lost, first those free inthe ground plasm, followed by those attached to the endoplasmicreticulum (E.R.). The E.R. later vesiculates and breaks down.The mitochondria become smaller and ultimately contain few cristae,but they remain morphologically intact until a very late stage.The tonoplast breaks down from 35 days and the plasma membranefrom 40 days, the latter probably resulting in cell death. The pattern of changes in cotyledons excised at 16 days andsubsequently floated or stood in water is similar to that inattached cotyledons except that the chloroplast breakdown ismore rapid and the ribosome loss is less rapid and complete.Breakdown of the tonoplast is delayed to 40 days and the plasmamembrane remains intact. These observations are discussed in relation to possible senescencemechanisms.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The trophozoites of two novel archigregarines, Selenidium pisinnus n. sp. and Filipodium phascolosomae n. sp., were described from the sipunculid Phascolosoma agassizii . The trophozoites of S. pisinnus n. sp. were relatively small (64–100 μm long and 9–25 μm wide), had rounded ends, and had about 21 epicytic folds per side. The trophozoites of F. phascolosomae n. sp. were highly irregular in shape and possessed hair-like surface projections. The trophozoites of this species were 85–142 μm long and 40–72 μm wide and possessed a distinct longitudinal ridge that extended from the mucron to the posterior end of the cell. In addition to the small subunit (SSU) rDNA sequences of these two species, we also characterized the surface morphology and SSU rDNA sequence of Selenidium orientale , isolated from the sipunculid Themiste pyroides . Molecular phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that S. pisinnus n. sp. and S. orientale formed a strongly supported clade within other Selenidium and archigregarine-like environmental sequences. Filipodium phascolosomae n. sp. formed the nearest sister lineage to the dynamic, tape-like gregarine Selenidium vivax . Overall, these data enabled us to reassess the molecular systematics of archigregarines within sipunculid hosts and make the following revisions: (1) Filipodium was transferred from the Lecudinidae (eugregarines) to the Selenidiidae (archigregarines), and (2) Platyproteum n. g. was established for Platyproteum vivax n. comb. (ex. S. vivax ) in order to account for the highly divergent morphological features and better resolved phylogenetic position of this lineage.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. The fine structure of Haemoproteus columbae sporozoites has been studied and compared to sporozoite structure as revealed by the light microscope. The sporozoites are ultrastructurally similar to those of other Haemosporidia in that they possess a 3-layered pellicle, subpellicular microtubules, polar ring, micropore, free ribosome-like particles, micronemes, a structure resembling a Golgi complex, an irregular mitochondrion, and a large nucleus. In the anterior region of the sporozoite there are 21–22 regularly arranged longitudinal subpellicular microtubules located peripherally around the cell. In the apical region the microtubules appear thickened on 1 side. The sporozoite of H. columbae has a microneme system in which 1–3 micronemes are associated with the outer pellicular membrane at the anterior end. Micronemes are found throughout the cytoplasm, but occur in greater concentration in the anterior region of the sporozoite. A clear pellicular cavity, located between the polar ring and the termination of the inner pellicular layer, is present at the anterior end of the sporozoite. Vesicular invaginations of the inner pellicular layer have been observed in the anterior region; their function is unknown. Spherical osmophilic bodies are found throughout the cytoplasm.  相似文献

The estuarine biology of the twaite shad was studied in the Severn Estuary. Adults enter the estuary at the start of the freshwater phase of their spawning migration between April and June. Peak immigration generally occurs in May and is associated with temperatures in the range 10.6–12.3°C. The mean (± s.d. ) instantaneous mortality rate for the mature population was 0.53±0.18. The effect of additional mortality on the spawning population was modelled assuming constant recruitment and no density-dependent effects.
Juvenile twaite shad are present in the estuary from July until they emigrate seaward during the autumn. A portion of these fish re-enter the estuary the following April–May and remain until late summer/early autumn before once more migrating seaward.
The 0 + age group feed mainly on harpacticoid and calanoid copepods and mysids, the relative preponderance of these in the diet being apparently related to tidal conditions. The possible implications of the proposed tidal power barrage in the Severn Estuary on the twaite shad population are discussed in relation to movement, diet and additional mortality of the mature population.  相似文献
