The Peabody Museum, Frederic W. Putnam, and the Rise of U.S. Anthropology, 1866-1903

This article explores the intersection of the career of Frederic Ward Putnam with the Peabody Museum of American Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard to the history of U.S. archaeology between his appointment as professor in 1866 and his death in 1915. Catalogue of the Type Specimens of Amphibians and Reptiles in the Herpetological Museum of the Chengdu Institute of Biology,Chinese Academy of Sciences:V.Viperidae(Reptilia,Serpentes)

In China, there are about 37 species of vipers belonging to 12 genera in the family Viperidae. In the Herpetological Museum of the Chengdu Institute of Biology(CIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences, the type specimens of snakes represent seven species in four genera. As a series of reports on the type specimens of Amphibians and Reptilies deposited in the Herpetological Museum of CIB, this paper focuses on the venomous snake family Viperidae in the collections at this Museum.

云南天牛一新种淑氏并脊天牛描述 (鞘翅目,天牛科,沟胫天牛亚科,楔天牛族)

Triatoma juazeirensis sp. nov. from the state of Bahia, Northeastern Brazil (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae)

Triatoma juazeirensis, a new triatomine species from the state of Bahia, Northeastern Brazil, is described. The new species is found among rocks in sylvatic environment and in the peridomicile. Type specimens were deposited in the Entomological Collection of Oswaldo Cruz Institute-Fiocruz, Museum of Zoology of University of S?o Paulo, and Florida Museum of Natural History. T. juazeirensis can be distinguished from the other members of the T. brasiliensis species complex mainly by the overall color of the pronotum, which is dark, and by the entirely dark femora.     

Memorial museum to Academician O.V. Palladin (on the 25th anniversary of the foundation

In the article the short information about A.V. Palladin Memorial Museum, displaying some documentary materials on the life, scientific, scientific-administrative and enlightenment activity of the founder of the Institute of Biochemistry and Ukrainian Biochemical school, President of UkSSR Academy of Sciences (1946-1962), outstanding scientist and public figure, Academician Alexander Vladimirovich Palladin (1885-1972). The Museum created according to the Resolution of the UkSSR Soviet of Ministers due to the efforts of the Institute personnel, is officially considered as an affiliate of the State Historical Museum of Kiev and acquired a wide-spread reputation as a center of propagation and study of the history of Ukraine biochemical science, its achievements, contribution of the native scientists into the world treasury of the life sciences.

A Collection of Historic Material from the Ft. Collins City Museum,Ft. Collins,Colorado

Abstract

In the late 1930’s, near Morton, Wyoming, a burial was found which included an interesting collection of artifacts. An attempt is made to answer questions regarding the date of burial, tribal origin, and sex of the individual by an analysis of the material. This material is now on exhibit at the Ft. Collins City Museum.

Dicyrtotnina and Ptenothrix (Insecta:Collembola) of the Solomon Islands

This paper deals primarily with the collembolan species of the subfamily Dicyrtominae collected during the Royal Society Expedition to the Solomon Islands of 1965 by P. N. Lawrence, supplemented by material from these islands collected by Dr and Mrs P. J. M. Greenslade, all of which is in the British Museum (Natural History). Additional supporting material described here has been derived from the Noona Dan Expedition of the Zoological Museum, Copenhagen and from the Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Hawaii. I should like to express my thanks to the individuals and Museum sconcerned.     

The type specimens and identity of the species described in the genus Lithobius by F. Meinert, and now preserved in the Zoological Museum, Copenhagen University (Chilopoda: Lithobiomorpha)

The 32 species described by Meinert in the genus Lithobius which are represented by type material in t h e Zoological Museum, Copenhagen University, are redescribed from that material. It is concluded that 17 of these species are valid, one is a subspecies of Lithobius forficants (L.) and 12 are junior synonyms: two are junior homonyms, but both are also synonyms of described species.     

河北省小五台山自然保护区蚜蝇科昆虫的调查(双翅目)

通过对河北省小五台山自然保护区蚜蝇科昆虫的调查,结合整理河北大学博物馆馆藏蚜蝇科昆虫标本,鉴定出小五台山自然保护区蚜蝇科昆虫54种,包括10新种,3中国新记录种,隶属于2亚科、9族、27属。文中给出种类名录及新种、新记录种描述和特征图。新种正模标本保存于河北大学博物馆,副模标本保存于陕西理工学院陕西省资源生物重点实验室。     

蚜科长管蚜亚科戏蚜属和蓼蚜属的分类地位订正（同翅目：蚜科， 长管蚜亚科）

从形态学角度研究了蚜科Aphididae长管蚜亚科Macrosiphidinae戏蚜Sportaphis sporta Zhang和扁蓄蓼蚜Polygonaphis aciculansucta Zhang的分类地位。结果表明：戏蚜为静细长蚜Tenuilongiaphis stata Zhang and Zhong的同物异名,扁蓄蓼蚜为扁蓄童盾蚜Aspidaphis adjuvas (Walker)的同物异名; 戏蚜属Sportaphis Zhang为细长蚜属Tenuilongiaphis Zhang的同物异名,蓼蚜属Polygonaphis Zhang为盾蚜属Aspidaphis Gillette的同物异名。研究标本保存在中国科学院动物研究所动物标本馆、美国伊利诺伊大学 Illinois Natural History Survey（INHS）和法国自然历史博物馆（NHMF）。
