Autism is a neurological disorder of childhood with poorly understood etiology and pathology. We compared lipid peroxidation status in the plasma of children with autism, and their developmentally normal non-autistic siblings by quantifying the levels of malonyldialdehyde, an end product of fatty acid oxidation. Lipid peroxidation was found to be elevated in autism indicating that oxidative stress is increased in this disease. Levels of major antioxidant proteins namely, transferrin (iron-binding protein) and ceruloplasmin (copper-binding protein) in the serum, were significantly reduced in autistic children as compared to their developmentally normal non-autistic siblings. A striking correlation was observed between reduced levels of these proteins and loss of previously acquired language skills in children with autism. These results indicate altered regulation of transferrin and ceruloplasmin in autistic children who lose acquired language skills. It is suggested that such changes may lead to abnormal iron and copper metabolism in autism, and that increased oxidative stress may have pathological role in autism.  相似文献

Autism is a multi-factorial pathology observed in children with altered levels of essential and elevated levels of toxic elements. There are also studies reporting a decrease in nutritional trace elements in the hair and nail of autistic children with healthy controls; moreover, bioelements have been shown to play an important role in the central nervous system. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to assess the levels of trace elements like copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), and selenium (Se) and toxic elements like mercury (Hg), and lead (Pb) in the hair and nail samples of autistic children and to evaluate whether the level of these elements could be correlated with the severity of autism. The subjects of the study were 45 autistic children with different grades of severity (low (LFA), medium (MFA), and high (HFA) functioning autism) according to Childhood Autism Rating Scale, n = 15 children in each group and 50 healthy children (age and sex matched). The boys and girls ratio involved in this study was 4:1, and they were 4-12 years of age. The study observed a valid indication of Cu body burden in the autistic children. The children with different grades of autism showed high significance (p < 0.001) in the level of copper in their hair and nail samples when compared to healthy controls. The level of Cu in the autistic children could be correlated with their degree of severity (more the Cu burden severe is autism). The study showed a significant elevation (p < 0.001) in the levels of toxic metals Pb and Hg in both hair and nail samples of autistic children when compared to healthy control group. The elevation was much pronounced in LFA group subjects when compared among autistic groups MFA and HFA. The levels of trace elements Mg and Se were significantly decreased (p < 0.001) in autistic children when compared to control. The trace element Zn showed significant variation in both hair and nails of LFA group children when compared to control group and other study groups. The significant elevation in the concentration of Cu, Pb, and Hg and significant decrease in the concentration of Mg and Se observed in the hair and nail samples of autistic subjects could be well correlated with their degrees of severity.  相似文献

We compared the compositions of fatty acids including n-3, n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, trans- and cis-monounsaturated fatty acids, and saturated fatty acids in the red blood cell membranes of 40 children with autism (20 with early onset autism and 20 with developmental regression) and age-matched, 20 typically developing controls and 20 subjects with non-autistic developmental disabilities. The main findings include increased levels of eicosenoic acid (20:1n9) and erucic acid (22:1n9) in autistic subjects with developmental regression when compared with typically developing controls. In addition, an increase in 20:2n6 and a decrease in 16:1n7t were observed in children with clinical regression compared to those with early onset autism. Our results do not provide strong evidence for the hypothesis that abnormal fatty acid metabolism plays a role in the pathogenesis of autism spectrum disorder, although they suggest some metabolic or dietary abnormalities in the regressive form of autism.  相似文献

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder associated with social deficits and behavioral abnormalities. Recent evidence in autism suggests a deficit in glutathione (GSH), a major endogenous antioxidant. It is not known whether the synthesis, consumption, and/or regeneration of GSH is affected in autism. In the cerebellum tissues from autism (n=10) and age-matched control subjects (n=10), the activities of GSH-related enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR), and glutamate cysteine ligase (GCL) involved in antioxidant defense, detoxification, GSH regeneration, and synthesis, respectively, were analyzed. GCL is a rate-limiting enzyme for GSH synthesis, and the relationship between its activity and the protein expression of its catalytic subunit GCLC and its modulatory subunit GCLM was also compared between the autistic and the control groups. Results showed that the activities of GPx and GST were significantly decreased in autism compared to that of the control group (P<0.05). Although there was no significant difference in GR activity between autism and control groups, 40% of autistic subjects showed lower GR activity than 95% confidence interval (CI) of the control group. GCL activity was also significantly reduced by 38.7% in the autistic group compared to the control group (P=0.023), and 8 of 10 autistic subjects had values below 95% CI of the control group. The ratio of protein levels of GCLC to GCLM in the autism group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P=0.022), and GCLM protein levels were reduced by 37.3% in the autistic group compared to the control group. A positive strong correlation was observed between GCL activity and protein levels of GCLM (r=0.887) and GCLC (r=0.799) subunits in control subjects but not in autistic subjects, suggesting that regulation of GCL activity is affected in autism. These results suggest that enzymes involved in GSH homeostasis have impaired activities in the cerebellum in autism, and lower GCL activity in autism may be related to decreased protein expression of GCLM.  相似文献

Plasma fatty acid levels in autistic children   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Phospholipid fatty acids are major structural components of neuronal cell membranes, which modulate membrane fluidity and hence function. Evidence from clinical and biochemical sources have indicated changes in the metabolism of fatty acids in several psychiatric disorders. We examined the phospholipid fatty acids in the plasma of a population of autistic subjects compared to mentally retarded controls. Our results showed a marked reduction in the levels of 22: 6n-3 (23%) in the autistic subjects, resulting in significantly lower levels of total (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (20%), without significant reduction in the (n-6) PUFA series, and consequently a significant increase in the (n-6)/(n-3) ratio (25%). These variations are discussed in terms of potential differences in PUFA dietary intake, metabolism, or incorporation into cellular membranes between the two groups of subjects. These results open up interesting perspectives for the investigation of new biological indices in autism. Moreover, this might have new therapeutic implications in terms of child nutrition.  相似文献

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood with poorly understood etiology and pathology. This pilot study aims to evaluate the levels of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of lipid peroxidation, in Egyptian autistic children. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood with poorly understood etiology and pathology. The present study included 20 children with autism diagnosed by DSM-IV-TR criteria and Childhood Autism Rating Scale. Controls included 25 age-matched healthy children. Cases were referred to Outpatient Clinic of Children with Special Needs Department, National Research Center, Cairo, Egypt. We compared levels of SOD, GSH-Px, and MDA in children with autism and controls. In children less than 6 years of age, levels of SOD, and GSH-Px were significantly lower in autistic children compared with their controls, while MDA was significantly higher among patients than controls. In children older than 6 years, there was no significant difference in any of these values between cases and controls. We concluded that children with autism are more vulnerable to oxidative stress in the form of increased lipid peroxidation and deficient antioxidant defense mechanism especially at younger children. We highlight that autistic children might benefit from antioxidants supplementation coupled with polyunsaturated fatty acids. Moreover, early assessment of antioxidant status would have better prognosis as it may decrease the oxidative stress before inducing more irreversible brain damage.  相似文献

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in verbal communication, social interactions, and the presence of repetitive, stereotyped and compulsive behaviors. Excessive early brain growth is found commonly in some patients and may contribute to disease phenotype. Reports of increased levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and other neurotrophic-like factors in autistic neonates suggest that enhanced anabolic activity in CNS mediates this overgrowth effect. We have shown previously that in a subset of patients with severe autism and aggression, plasma levels of the secreted amyloid-β (Aβ) precursor protein-alpha form (sAPPα) were significantly elevated relative to controls and patients with mild-to-moderate autism. Here we further tested the hypothesis that levels of sAPPα and sAPPβ (proteolytic cleavage products of APP by α- and β-secretase, respectively) are deranged in autism and may contribute to an anabolic environment leading to brain overgrowth. We measured plasma levels of sAPPα, sAPPβ, Aβ peptides and BDNF by corresponding ELISA in a well characterized set of subjects. We included for analysis 18 control, 6 mild-to-moderate, and 15 severely autistic patient plasma samples. We have observed that sAPPα levels are increased and BDNF levels decreased in the plasma of patients with severe autism as compared to controls. Further, we show that Aβ1-40, Aβ1-42, and sAPPβ levels are significantly decreased in the plasma of patients with severe autism. These findings do not extend to patients with mild-to-moderate autism, providing a biochemical correlate of phenotypic severity. Taken together, this study provides evidence that sAPPα levels are generally elevated in severe autism and suggests that these patients may have aberrant non-amyloidogenic processing of APP.  相似文献

Background

It has recently been hypothesized that hyperglutamatergia in the brain is involved in the pathophysiology of autism. However, there is no conclusive evidence of the validity of this hypothesis. As peripheral glutamate/glutamine levels have been reported to be correlated with those of the central nervous system, the authors examined whether the levels of 25 amino acids, including glutamate and glutamine, in the platelet-poor plasma of drug-naïve, male children with high-functioning autism (HFA) would be altered compared with those of normal controls.

Methodology/Principal Findings

Plasma levels of 25 amino acids in male children (N = 23) with HFA and normally developed healthy male controls (N = 22) were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. Multiple testing was allowed for in the analyses. Compared with the normal control group, the HFA group had higher levels of plasma glutamate and lower levels of plasma glutamine. No significant group difference was found in the remaining 23 amino acids. The effect size (Cohen''s d) for glutamate and glutamine was large: 1.13 and 1.36, respectively. Using discriminant analysis with logistic regression, the two values of plasma glutamate and glutamine were shown to well-differentiate the HFA group from the control group; the rate of correct classification was 91%.

Conclusions/Significance

The present study suggests that plasma glutamate and glutamine levels can serve as a diagnostic tool for the early detection of autism, especially normal IQ autism. These findings indicate that glutamatergic abnormalities in the brain may be associated with the pathobiology of autism.  相似文献

Glutamate is central to several transamination reactions that affect the production of ammonia, alanine, glutamine, as well as TCA cycle intermediates during exercise. To further study glutamate metabolism, we administered 150 mg/kg body wt of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and placebo to seven male subjects who then either rested or exercised (15-min cycling at approximately 85% maximal oxygen consumption). MSG ingestion resulted in elevated plasma glutamate, aspartate, and taurine, both at rest and during exercise (P < 0.05), whereas most other amino acids were unchanged. Neither plasma alanine nor ammonia was altered at rest. During exercise and after glutamate ingestion, alanine was increased (P < 0.05) and ammonia was attenuated (P < 0.05). Glutamine was also elevated after glutamate ingestion during rest and exercise trials. MSG administration also resulted in elevated insulin levels (P < 0.05), which were parallel to the trend in C-peptide levels. Thus MSG can successfully elevate plasma glutamate, both at rest and during exercise. The plasma amino acid responses suggest that increased glutamate availability during exercise alters its distribution in transamination reactions within active muscle, which results in elevated alanine and decreased ammonia levels.  相似文献

Abstract

Oxidative stress caused by increased production of free radicals and impaired functions of antioxidants remains as the major factor associated with the pathophysiology of many neuropsychiatric diseases.

Objective

The objective of the present study was to analyze the oxidative stress markers in urine sample since the collection of blood from these children is highly meticulous and also to evaluate whether these urinary markers can be correlated with the severity of autism.

Methods

The subjects of the study were 45 autistic children with different grades of severity (low functioning autism (LFA), medium functioning autism (MFA), and high functioning autism (HFA) according to Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), n = 15 children in each group and 50 healthy children (age and sex matched). The boys and girls ratio involved in this study was 4:1, and they were of age 4–12 years. We determined the urinary levels of oxidative stress markers like thiobarbituric acid-reacting substances, lipid hydroperoxides, 4-hydroxy nonenal, protein carbonyls, sulfhydryl groups, total antioxidant capacity, total peroxide content, oxidative stress index, and also UA/Cr ratio in autistic children.

Results

The study observed a significant elevation in the level of oxidative stress markers in autistic children when compared with normal children. The level of antioxidants excreted in urine was found to be significantly low in autistic children. These findings when correlated with the degrees of severity, oxidative stress markers showed positive correlation with increasing order of severity (LFA > MFA > HFA), whereas antioxidants showed negative correlation.

Discussion

The study reveals that the urinary levels of oxidative stress markers can be considered as the measure of oxidative stress index in autistic children. The significant correlation between the severity of autism with urinary lipid peroxidation products also support the use of oxidative stress markers and antioxidants as biomarkers of autism.  相似文献

Our earlier studies, in preeclamptic women have shown altered levels of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA), essential constituents of the cell membrane lipids responsible for membrane stability as one of the key factors contributing to the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. We have also reported elevated levels of sFlt-1 in preeclampsia. The present study examines the levels of LCPUFA and their association with sFlt-1 levels in 69 pre-eclamptic women and 40 normotensive women. DHA and omega 3 fatty acid levels were lower (p<0.001) while arachidonic acid and omega 6 fatty acid levels were higher (p<0.05) in preeclamptic women as compared to normotensive women. Maternal plasma sFlt-1 levels were higher (p<0.05) in preeclamptic women and were negatively associated with DHA (p=0.008) and omega 3 fatty acids concentrations (p=0.031). Our results suggest that altered placental LCPUFA may result in altered membrane lipid fatty acid composition leading to increased release of sFlt-1 in circulation.  相似文献

Oxidative mechanisms play an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. To assess whether the oxidation of brain lipoproteins plays a role in the development of these pathologies, we investigated whether the lipoproteins of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are susceptible to oxidative modification in vitro. We studied oxidation time-course for up to 100 h of human CSF in the absence (autooxidation) or presence of exogenous oxidants. Autooxidation of diluted CSF was found to result in a slow accumulation of lipid peroxidation products. The time-course of lipid hydroperoxide accumulation revealed three consecutive phases, lag-phase, propagation phase and plateau phase. Qualitatively similar time-course has been typically found in human plasma and plasma lipoproteins. Autooxidation of CSF was accelerated by adding exogenous oxidants, delayed by adding antioxidants and completely inhibited by adding a chelator of transition metal ions. Autooxidation of CSF also resulted in the consumption of endogenous ascorbate, α-tocopherol, urate and linoleic and arachidonic acids. Taking into account that (i) lipid peroxidation products measured in our study are known to be derived from fatty acids, and (ii) lipophilic antioxidants and fatty acids present in CSF are likely to be located in CSF lipoproteins, we conclude that lipoproteins of human CSF are modified in vitro during its autooxidation. This autooxidation appears to be catalyzed by transition metal ions, such as Cu(II) and Fe(III), which are present in native CSF. These data suggest that the oxidation of CSF lipoproteins might occur in vivo and play a role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.  相似文献

Acholeplasma laidlawii B cells made fatty acid auxotrophic by growth in the presence of the biotin-binding agent avidin grow increasingly poorly at 37 degrees C when supplemented with single exogenous linear saturated fatty acids of decreasing hydrocarbon chain length. Interestingly, this progressive decrease in growth yields with decreasing hydrocarbon chain length is not observed when cells are cultured in the presence of other classes of exogenous fatty acids. Moreover, normal growth is observed is other types of fatty acids with equivalent or shorter hydrocarbon chain lengths, indicating that poor growth in the presence of short-chain linear saturated fatty acids cannot be due to a decrease in membrane lipid bilayer thickness per se. To understand the molecular basis of such growth inhibition, we determined the growth yields, membrane lipid fatty acid and polar headgroups compositions, and phase state and fluidity of the membrane lipids in cells progressively biosynthetically enriched in tridecanoic acid (13:0) or dodecanoic acid (12:0). The growth of fatty acid auxotrophic A. laidlawii B cells grown in the presence of binary combinations of an exogenous fatty acid which supports normal growth on its own and 13:0 or 12:0 revealed that growth inhibition is not observed until 13:0 and 12:0 biosynthetic incorporation levels reach about 90 and 60 mol %, respectively, after which growth is markedly inhibited. Differential scanning calorimetric analyses of membranes from cells maximally enriched in 13:0 indicate that the lipid gel/liquid-crystalline phase transition temperature is unexpectedly high but that at the growth temperature of 37 degrees C, the membrane lipid bilayer is almost exclusively in the liquid-crystalline state but is certainly not excessively fluid. However, high levels of 13:0 incorporation produce a greatly elevated level of the high melting, reversed nonlamellar phase-preferring lipid component monoglucosyl diacylglycerol, and greatly reduced levels of all other membrane lipid components. This marked elevation of monoglucosyl diacylglycerol levels can be rationalized as a regulatory response which maintains the lamellar/nonlamellar phase-forming propensity of the total membrane lipid mixture relatively constant in the face of the biosynthetic incorporation of increasing quantities of short-chain saturated fatty acids, which favor the lamellar phase. However, this lipid biosynthetic response produces a marked decline in the levels of anionic phospholipid and phosphoglycolipid which are probably required to maintain the minimal negative surface charge density of the lipid bilayer, which we suggest is responsible for the observed growth inhibition. This work shows that the lipid biosynthetic regulatory mechanisms present in this organism may sometimes operate at cross purposes such that it is not possible to simultaneously optimize all of the biologically relevant physical properties of the membrane lipid bilayer.  相似文献

Autoimmunity to the central nervous system (CNS), especially to myelin basic protein (MBP), may play a causal role in autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Because many autistic children harbor elevated levels of measles antibodies, we conducted a serological study of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and MBP autoantibodies. Using serum samples of 125 autistic children and 92 control children, antibodies were assayed by ELISA or immunoblotting methods. ELISA analysis showed a significant increase in the level of MMR antibodies in autistic children. Immunoblotting analysis revealed the presence of an unusual MMR antibody in 75 of 125 (60%) autistic sera but not in control sera. This antibody specifically detected a protein of 73-75 kD of MMR. This protein band, as analyzed with monoclonal antibodies, was immunopositive for measles hemagglutinin (HA) protein but not for measles nucleoprotein and rubella or mumps viral proteins. Thus the MMR antibody in autistic sera detected measles HA protein, which is unique to the measles subunit of the vaccine. Furthermore, over 90% of MMR antibody-positive autistic sera were also positive for MBP autoantibodies, suggesting a strong association between MMR and CNS autoimmunity in autism. Stemming from this evidence, we suggest that an inappropriate antibody response to MMR, specifically the measles component thereof, might be related to pathogenesis of autism.  相似文献

It has been reported that glutamate decreased the intracellular glutathione (GSH) concentration and thereby induced cell death in C6 rat glioma cells. Polyunsaturated fatty acids such as arachidonic acid, gamma-linolenic acid, and linoleic acid enhanced lipid peroxidation promoting 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OH-dG) formation under the glutamate-induced GSH-depletion. The enhancement of lipid peroxidation by polyunsaturated fatty acids was species-dependent. Some antioxidants capable of scavenging oxygen and lipid radicals and some iron or copper scavengers inhibited both the lipid peroxidation and the 8-OH-dG formation, consequently protecting against cell death induced by glutamate-induced GSH depletion. These results suggest that GSH depletion caused by glutamate induces lipid peroxidation and consequently 8-OH-dG formation and that polyunsaturated fatty acids enhance lipid peroxidation associated with mediated 8-OH-dG formation through a chain reaction.  相似文献

The regulation of the nature and quantity of the fatty acids produced in vivo by Acholeplasma laidlawii B in the presence of various exogenous fatty acids has been investigated. In the presence of exogenous medium- or long-chain fatty acids, the organism appears to reduce the amounts of de novo biosynthesized fatty acids in its cellular lipid pool by two distinct mechanisms: an excretion of biosynthesized fatty acids to the growth medium as free fatty acids, and a reduction in total de novo biosynthetic output. These two mechanisms do not suffice to maintain constant total membrane lipid levels, but they do appear to significantly moderate the effect of exogenous fatty acids on the level of membrane lipid. In the presence of short-chain fatty acids, total membrane lipid levels are not elevated. Exogenous fatty acids can cause shifts in the average chain length of de novo biosynthesized fatty acids; the magnitudes and directions of these shifts can be correlated with the specificity of the exogenous species for esterification to the 1- or the 2-position of the glycerol moiety of membrane glycerolipids. As the various endogenously synthesized fatty acids differ in their positional specificity for glycerolipid esterification, we propose that the competition of an exogenous species with significant specificity for a particular position with the endogenously derived fatty acids specific for that position can selectively depress the synthesis of such endogenously derived species, thereby altering the overall product spectrum of de novo fatty acid biosynthesis in vivo.  相似文献

Xerophyta humilis is a poikilochlorophyllous monocot resurrection plant used as a model to study vegetative desiccation tolerance. Dehydration imposes tension and ultimate loss of integrity of membranes in desiccation sensitive species. We investigated the predominant molecular species of glycerolipids present in root and leaf tissues, using multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry, and then analysed changes therein during dehydration and subsequent rehydration of whole plants. The presence of fatty acids with long carbon chains and with odd numbers of carbons were detected and confirmed by gas chromatography. Dehydration of both leaves and roots resulted in an increase in species containing polyunsaturated fatty acids and a decrease in disaturated species. Upon rehydration, lipid saturation was reversed, with this being initiated immediately upon watering in roots but only 12–24 hr later in leaves. Relative levels of species with short‐chained odd‐numbered saturated fatty acids decreased during dehydration and increased during rehydration, whereas the reverse trend was observed for long‐chained fatty acids. X. humilis has a unique lipid composition, this report being one of the few to demonstrate the presence of odd‐numbered fatty acids in plant phosphoglycerolipids.  相似文献

Members of the Bacteroidetes phylum, represented by Alistipes finegoldii, are prominent anerobic, Gram-negative inhabitants of the gut microbiome. The lipid biosynthetic pathways were analyzed using bioinformatic analyses, lipidomics, metabolic labeling and biochemistry to characterize exogenous fatty acid metabolism. A. finegoldii only produced the saturated fatty acids. The most abundant lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and sulfonolipid (SL). Neither phosphatidylglycerol nor cardiolipin are present. PE synthesis is initiated by the PlsX/PlsY/PlsC pathway, whereas the SL pathway is related to sphingolipid biosynthesis. A. finegoldii incorporated medium-chain fatty acids (≤14 carbons) into PE and SL after their elongation, whereas long-chain fatty acids (≥16 carbons) were not elongated. Fatty acids >16 carbons were primarily incorporated into the 2-position of phosphatidylethanolamine at the PlsC step, the only biosynthetic enzyme that utilizes long-chain acyl-ACP. The ability to assimilate a broad-spectrum of fatty acid chain lengths present in the gut environment is due to the expression of two acyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthetases. Acyl-ACP synthetase 1 had a substrate preference for medium-chain fatty acids and synthetase 2 had a substrate preference for long-chain fatty acids. This unique combination of synthetases allows A. finegoldii to utilize both the medium- and long-chain fatty acid nutrients available in the gut environment to assemble its membrane lipids.  相似文献

In septic shock patients, alterations of plasma phospholipid fatty acid profile have never been described. The purpose of this monocentric, non-interventional, observational prospective study was to describe this fatty acid profile in the early phase of septic shock in intensive care unit. Thirty-seven adult patients with septic shock were included after the first day of stay in intensive care unit, before any form of artificial nutritional support. Plasma phospholipid fatty acid composition was determined by gas chromatography. All biological data from patients with septic shock were compared with laboratory reference values. Patients presented hypocholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia. They had low concentrations of phospholipid fatty acids specifically n-6 and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) with a high n-6/n-3 ratio. Plasma phospholipid PUFA concentrations were strongly correlated with cholesterolemia. PUFAs/SFAs (saturated fatty acids) and PUFAs/MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids) ratios were low because of low percentage of n-6 and n-3 PUFAs and high percentage of SFAs and MUFAs. Low levels of plasma long chain PUFAs (≥20 carbons) were significantly associated with mortality at 28th day. In conclusion, plasma phospholipid FA profile of septic patients is very characteristic, close to that of acute respiratory distress syndrome and mortality is associated with long chain PUFA decrease. This profile could be explained by numerous non-exclusive physio-pathological processes 1) an activation of hepatic de novo lipogenesis that could contribute to hepatic steatosis, 2) an elevated adipose tissue lipolysis, 3) an increased free radical attack of FA by oxidative stress, 4) an over-production of inflammatory lipid mediators.  相似文献
