Lake Budzyńskie is shallow, freshwater lake with a well-developed and differentiated macrophytic vegetation. Zooplankton samples
were collected from five stations: two of them in submerged macrophytes (Chara and Myriophyllum), one in the zone of floating leaves (Potamogeton), a rush station (Typha) and one in the open water surrounding the vegetation beds. The mean Rotifera densities differed significantly between the
lake parts. Furthermore, different habitats were characterised by differences in body size with the exception of the middle
body size group (Keratella cochlearis, Polyarthra vulgaris and Trichocerca similis), which was dominated by limnetic representatives. However, in all the other size-dependent groups both stands of submerged
macrophytes were characterised by much higher densities than other zones. Additionally, body size within the examined habitats
significantly differed. Thus, the size structure of Rotifera communities was directly related to morphological and spatial
structures of the substrata. Two groups of habitats were distinguished: the first one consisting of open water and two vegetated
zones of less complicated structure (Potamogeton and Typha), and the second of more complex submerged macrophyte species (Chara and Myriophyllum). The differentiation of the architecture of macrophytes affected the nutritional conditions and refuge effectiveness of

Diurnal vertical distribution of rotifers was investigated in the Chara bed and the water immediately above it in the shallow region (ca. 1 m depth) of Budzyskie Lake (Wielkopolski National Park, Poland) in early September 1998. Eighty one rotifer species were identified – 71 among Chara and 59 in the open water. Significant differences in rotifer densities were observed in the Chara, with highest numbers during the day (2316 ind. l–1) and lowest numbers early morning (521 ind. l–1) and at dusk (610 ind. l–1). Above the Chara, the numbers of rotifers did not change significantly (615–956 ind. l–1). Littoral- or limnetic-forms differed in their diel vertical distribution between both zones. One group of littoral species was characterized by increased densities in the Chara in the daytime, while a second group increased in density during the night. The densities of limnetic species, which were much higher in open water, decreased in the morning or daytime in this zone. These differences in the diel behaviour of particular groups of rotifers may be dependent on microhabitat and may also be related to different kinds of predation, the exploitative competition for shared food resources between rotifers and crustaceans, as well as typical adaptation to littoral or limnetic life. 相似文献

Spatial and temporal distribution, abundance and habitat preferences of ostracod assemblages were studied in various habitats
of Lake Fehér in Hungary. Of the 20 species Fabaeformiscandona hyalina and Cypridopsis hartwigi are new to Hungary. Significant spatial differences were recorded in the composition and abundance of the Ostracoda assemblages
in the different habitats. The most diverse and abundant assemblages were found in the reed-belt, however, the mean abundance
of the species differed in the different macrophyte communities of the reed-belt. The species richness and abundance were
considerably lower in disturbed sites than in the other habitats. Most of the 20 species showed distinct habitat preferences
and ecological tolerances. Especially the presence and coverage of the vegetation and the dissolved oxygen content influenced

The waters of Lagos Harbour have a salinity variation of 30, as a consequence of the annual rainfall regime and of the influx of Atlantic Ocean waters. We made monthly plankton hauls at 10 stations for 11 months starting in October 1986, and found 51 species of rotifers, with Brachionus baylyi Sudzuki & Timms, Keratella hispida Lauterborn, Colurella obtusa Gosse, and Filinia pejleri Hutchinson recorded for the first time in Nigeria. In distribution, species numbers decreased with increasing salinity. Brachionus plicatilis, B. rubens, Hexarthra intermedia, Keratella americana, K. cochlearis and K. tropica were classed as euryhaline. Stenohaline species were Anuraeopsis fissa, Ascomorpha ovalis, Filinia longiseta, F. opoliensis, Gastropus sp., Lecane curvicornis and Monostyla stenroosi. Phyto- and bacterioplankton biomass and activity were simultaneously measured during the course of one year in the shallow Créteil Lake (France).Phytoplankton was dominated, during the whole year, by small-sized organisms (10 to 25 µm). Bacteria were in a majority small coccoids (<0.3 µm). Phyto -and bacterioplankton abundances averaged respectively 3.3 × 106 cells l–1 and 6 × 109 cells l–1.The phasing of the activity and biomass periods suggest a close coupling between phyto- and bacterioplankton. There were two distinct periods of high activity and biomass. Maximal values were observed in summer but an early increase occurred also in winter. Low or undetectable phytoplankton excretion rates, when heterotrophic activity was maximum, indicated a bacterial uptake of up to 100% of the released algal products during the incubation period. Heterotrophic uptake measurements with both glucose and amino acids revealed a seasonal change of the substrates in the lake, glucose uptake being associated more with the maximum activity of the algae, while the amino acids uptake was relatively higher during their decline.The maximal photosynthetic rate averaged 21.5 mgC m–3 h–1 and mean Vmax values were 0.056 and 0.050 mgC m–3 h–1 respectively for glucose and amino acids uptake. 相似文献

Laminated sediment is deposited in the deep areas (> 30 m) of Lake Pääjärvi. In the diatom microstratigraphy a regular alteration of planktonic and littoral floras, which goes in pace with the visual structure, reflects the yearly cycle of sedimentation. Considerable variation in sedimentation was found to have occurred during the past two decades. A sequence, dated to the early 1960's, in which the organic content was exceptionally high, could be identified in the sediment at 6–14 cm depth even in shallower areas where laminations are not formed. This level was used as a marker horizon when determining the recent distribution of sediment by means of 19 cores taken from different parts of the lake. The average annual sediment accumulation in the profundal zone of the lake is 340 g m?2a?1 dry weight, of which 25 g m?2 a?1 (1100 kJ m?2 a?1) is organic carbon. 相似文献

During the 20th century Lake Ringsjön has developed from a mesotrophic to a eutrophic lake, and the phytoplankton community has changed from a rather diverse community to a monoculture of blue-green algae. The eutrophication process has accelerated during the last decade. The most important external nutrient loading of today comes from agriculture.Although phosphorus has been shown to be the primary nutrient leading to excessive algal growth in fresh water, several biotic factors — such as interactions between nutrients, phytoplankton, zooplankton and planktivorous fish — may play a decisive role in the occurrence and maintenance of large algal blooms.The aim of this investigation was to study the changes in the fish community of Lake Ringsjön, especially the most dominant planktivores, and the state of the zooplankton community during the seventies. The fish fauna is dominated by cyprinids, especially roach, and there are relatively few predatory fish. During the seventies the mean size of roach decreased, and measurements of the zooplankton community indicated that the predation pressure on zooplankton had increased. The mean sizes of cladocerans such as Daphnia and Bosmina, which were selected for by the planktivorous fish, decreased; the size of the calanoid Diaptomus, which was not preyed upon by the dominating fish species, did not change. The growth of zooplankton-feeding stages of several fish species was retarded, which meant that the growth of young perch decreased, while older roach were mainly affected. In the prevailing situation, planktivorous roach can maintain a numerous population of small individuals, whereas the predatory perch is at a disadvantage, and predation on zooplankton is intense. 相似文献

We studied the succession patterns of the benthic community following a whole-lake restoration experiment in a subtropical
hypertrophic lake (Lake Rodó, 34°55′ S 56°10′ W, Montevideo, Uruguay). The restoration measures involved diversion of the
main inlet and removal of upper 1-m sediment and biomanipulation of the fish community. Between January 1997 and November
1999, we sampled sediments seasonally to analyse changes in benthos in relation to other abiotic and biotic characteristics
of the system. The benthic community of the lake was composed of three families and nine genera. The maximum density (646 ind
m−2), as well as the maximum taxonomic richness (six), were observed 1 month after the lake was refilled. Since 1998, the benthic
abundance decreased considerably and continuously and a total absence of benthic organisms was registered by the end of the
year. The low abundance of macroinvertebrates during 1997 could be explained by the food preferences of the dominant fish
species, and the high fish biomass at the beginning of the biomanipulation process. However, the most relevant physico-chemical
temporal patterns were the increase of organic matter and nutrients in the sediment and the fluctuations of oxygen and nitrate
in the deepest layer of the water column. The disappearance of benthos was related to these temporal changes. These results
stress the importance of the increase of organic matter for the changes in the physico-chemical environment, and its importance
in the benthic succession and possible collapse. We suggest that in hypertrophic lakes, the effects of organic matter enrichment
in the sediment can be even more relevant than fish predation in shaping the zoobenthos. 相似文献

From 1988 to 1993 we assessed the variability of bacterioplankton production and biomass in Lake Xolotlán (L. Managua), Nicaragua
via [3H]thymidine incorporation into DNA and cell counting. Bacterial production ranged from 3 to 8 μg C l-1 h-1, and since
production was equal throughout the water column, areal production was high (≈ 600–1200 mg C m-2 d-1). Bacterial abundance
in Lake Managua was extremely high, 7–30 × 109 cells l-1. Thus, specific rates of bacterial production were low. There was
a strong correlation between production and number and the specific rate of bacterial production was constant. Comparable
measurements of production via [3H]leucine incorporation into proteins indicated that bacteria were experiencing ‘balanced
growth’. We conclude that bacterioplankton in Lake Xolotlán had reached its carrying capacity and a significant correlation
between bacterial production and concentration of phaeophytin implied that dead or dying algae was the limiting substrate
for bacterioplankton. The majority of bacterial number and most of bacterial production (up to 75%) were associated with particles
in the >3-μm fraction, probably lysing algal cells to which bacterioplankton were ‘attached’. Grazing on bacterioplankton
must be low and bacteria should be a ‘sink’ for organic matter in Lake Xolotlán.

Although the area of Lake Yeniça?a is a potential candidate for RAMSAR convention, several anthropogenic factors compromise its biological diversity. This is mostly due to nutrient-rich water released from both point and nonpoint sources. Thirteen ostracod taxa (Candona neglecta, C. candida, Ilyocypris bradyi, Darwinula stevensoni, Cypridopsis vidua, Physocypria kraepelini, Cypria ophtalmica, Prionocypris zenkeri, Eucypris virens, Herpetocypris reptans, Pseudocandona compressa, Fabaeformiscandona fabaeformis Potamocypris cf. fulva) were found during this study. Potamocypris cf. fulva is a new record for the Turkish freshwater ostracod fauna. The first nine of these species have broad geographic ranges, implying high tolerance levels to different environmental variables. Based on the estimated species optima and tolerance levels, two species exhibited higher effective number of occurrences (C. neglecta, and D. stevensoni, respectively) than the other species. Three species (C. neglecta, D. stevensoni, I. bradyi) did not show significant correlation with any environmental variable we used. Both Canonical correspondence (CCA) and Pearson correlation analyses showed that temperature was the most effective predictor of species occurrence, followed by electrical conductivity and redox potential. In contrast, pH and dissolved oxygen of water were the least effective predictors. Approximately 71% of the correlation between community composition and environmental variables was explained by the first axis of the CCA diagram, which had a relatively low (7.7%) cumulative variance of species. The lower (560 μg/l) and the upper (2030 μg/l) levels of ammonia (NH3) exceeded the limits during winter season. The concentrations of total coliform and Escherichia coli bacteria were measured up to 10 × 107 cfu/ml and 10 × 103 cfu/ml, respectively. Results of physicochemical measurements, microbiological counts, and species data indicate that water quality of Lake Yeniça?a has been rapidly deteriorated by anthropogenic factors that are the main threat for not only the lake’s aquatic diversity but also human health around the lake. 相似文献

A microphytobenthic species composition of a tidal flat in the northern Wadden Sea was analysed regarding cell numbers and
biomass (in carbon units). The three sampling sites differed in tidal inundation from 15 cm to about 90 cm water depth at
high tide. The sediment was sandy at all three stations. A cluster analysis revealed a separation of the benthic diatoms into
three areas: aNereis-Corophium-belt, a seagrass-bed and theArenicola-flat. Small epipsammic diatoms were most abundant and dominated the microalgal biomass. A microphytobenthic “spring bloom”
even started beneath the ice cover of the flat in January. Lowest values of cell numbers and biomass of benthic microalgae
were found in summer. Highest values were measured in the uppermost area (Nereis-Corophium-belt), and only here was an autumnal increase of benthic microalgae found. Further cluster analysis within each of the three
areas revealed seasonal differences although the majority of species were present all year round. Many species were most abundant

Assiminea affinis (Mousson ms) Böttger, 1887(=A. queenslandica [Pilsbry ms] Thiele, 1927), a previously unrecognised Australian assimineid species, is described anatomically and allocated to the genus Taiwanassiminea Kuroda and Habe, 1950, first described from Taiwan. This is the first record of the genus from Australia. Taiwanassiminea affinis is found in slightly brackish waters in the upper tidal reaches of the larger rivers from northern Queensland to the Shoalhaven River in the southern half of New South Wales. The terrestrial Cyclotropis Tapparone-Canefri, 1883, which has somewhat similar shell and radular characters, is redefined and several species (Assiminea bedaliensis Rensch, 1934; Paludinella javana Thiele, 1927; Assiminea lentula, A. riparia and A. sororcula, all Benthem Jutting, 1963) previously included in Cyclotropis are transferred to Taiwanassiminea. 相似文献

Biomass development and vertical distribution of a Chlamydomonas population in a small humic forest lake was followed by daily sampling in May-June, 1984. Chlamydomonas dominated the phytoplankton spring bloom, forming 71% of the maximum phytoplankton biomass on 18 May. In early May the outflow rate was high and during the 24 hour period when the maximum rate of surface runoff was recorded (8–9 May), 43% of the Chlamydomonas biomass was flushed out of the lake, which delayed the onset of biomass increase. When surface runoff had slowed down Chlamydomonas biomass started increasing and during wax of the population most cells were < 10 µm in diameter. Population maximum lasted for one day (18 May) and there-after Chlamydomonas biomass decreased towards the end of the study. During wane of the population most cells were > 10 µm in diameter. 相似文献

Six cores were drilled and retrieved from 186-m depth in the Äspö Hard Rock Laboratory (HRL) tunnel to investigate whether indigenous biofilms develop on fracture surfaces in groundwater-conducting aquifers in granitic rock. A clone library was constructed from fracture surface material (FSM), for community composition analysis. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was applied to quantify gene copies using the 16S rRNA gene for domain Bacteria and the adenosine-phosphosulfate reductase gene (apsA) for sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). Results were compared with three groundwater systems with biofilms in laminar flow reactors (LFRs) at 450-m depth in the Äspö HRL. The total number of cells, counted microscopically, was approximately 2?×?105 cells cm–2 in the LFR systems, consistent with the obtained qPCR 16S rRNA gene copies. qPCR analysis reported ~1?×?102 up to ~1?×?104 gene copies cm–2 on the FSM from the drill cores. In the FSM biofilms, 33% of the sequenced clones were related to the iron-reducing bacterium Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, while in the LFR biofilms, 41% of the sequenced clones were affiliated with the genera Desulfovibrio, Desulforhopalus, Desulfomicrobium, and Desulfobulbus. The community composition of the FSM biofilms differed from the drill water community, excluding drill water contamination. This work reports significant numbers of microorganisms on natural hard rock aquifer fracture surfaces with site-specific community compositions. The probability that biofilms are generally present in groundwater-conducting aquifers in deep granitic rock is consequently great. 相似文献

Biotic interactions may strongly affect the distribution of individual species and the resulting patterns of species richness. However, the impacts can vary depending on the species or taxa examined, suggesting that the influences of interactions on species distributions and diversity are not always straightforward and can be taxon-contingent. The aim of this study was therefore to examine how the importance of biotic interactions varies within a community. We incorporated three biotic predictors (cover of the dominant vascular species) into two correlative species richness modelling frameworks to predict spatial variation in the number of vascular plants, bryophytes and lichens in arctic–alpine Fennoscandia, in N Europe. In addition, predictions based on single-species distribution models were used to determine the nature of the impact (negative vs. positive outcome) of the three dominant species on individual vascular plant, bryophyte and lichen species. Our results suggest that biotic variables can be as important as abiotic variables, but their relative contributions in explaining the richness of sub-dominant species vary among dominant species, species group and the modelling framework implemented. Similarly, the impacts of biotic interactions on individual species varied among the three species groups and dominant species, with the observed patterns partly reflecting species’ biogeographic range. Our study provides additional support for the importance of biotic interactions in modifying arctic–alpine biodiversity patterns and highlights that the impacts of interactions are not constant across taxa or biotic drivers. The influence of biotic interactions, including the taxon contingency and range-based impacts, should therefore be accounted for when developing biodiversity forecasts. 相似文献

Four species of chroöcoccal Cyanobacteria were dominant in Lake Maarsseveen I in 1987:Gomphosphaeria lacustris, Chroöcoccus sp.,Aphanocapsa sp. andMicrocystis aeruginosa. The faunistic composition of pelagic ostracods of regions situated to the north and northwest of the d’Urville Sea (60°–65°S,
148°–136° and 136°–113°E) is largely similar to that of the area adjacent to the Somov Sea at the same latitudes. Alacia hettacra is the most abundant species here; Austrinoecia isocheira, Boroecia antipoda, and Obtusoecia antarctica are common species. The maximum abundance of pelagic ostracods is observed in the 100–200 m depth range; the largest contribution
to it is contributed by A. hettacra. The number of species increases with increasing depth. The 64°–65°S region between 148° and 113° E is regarded as the northern
