The longevity and fecundity of Cnaphalocrocis medinalis were investigated at temperatures of 15.0, 17.5, 20.0, 22.5, 25.0, 27.5, 30.0, 32.5, and 35.0 °C. Adult longevity and fecundity were significantly influenced by temperature. Longevity decreased with increasing temperature: it was highest at 15.0 °C (23.6 ± 3.51 days) and lowest at 35.0 °C (6.4 ± 0.48 days). Fecundity was highest at 25.0 °C (170.5 ± 45.54 eggs) and lowest at 17.5 °C (11.0 ± 3.68 eggs). The oviposition period was longest at 20.0 °C (8.0 ± 1.09 days) and shortest at 35.0 °C (2.3 ± 0.48 days). The oviposition model presented in this study consisted of two reproductive components (total fecundity and age-specific cumulative oviposition rate) and a survival component (age-specific survival rate). The relationship between adult developmental rate and temperature was described by the Lactin 2 model (r2 = 0.98, p < 0.0001). The age-specific survival rate was well explained by a sigmoid function (r2 = 0.97, p < 0.00001). The age-specific cumulative oviposition rate was best described by the three-parameter Weibull function (r2 = 0.99, p < 0.00001). Temperature-dependent fecundity was estimated using the Briere-2 model (r2 = 0.94, p < 0.007). Daily egg production of C. medinalis in relation to adult age and temperature was estimated.  相似文献

The rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée), is one of the most destructive rice pests in Asian countries. Rice varieties resistant to the rice leaf folder are generally characterized by high silicon content. In this study, silicon amendment, at 0.16 and 0.32 g Si/kg soil, enhanced resistance of a susceptible rice variety to the rice leaf folder. Silicon addition to rice plants at both the low and high rates significantly extended larval development and reduced larval survival rate and pupation rate in the rice leaf folder. When applied at the high rate, silicon amendment reduced third-instars’ weight gain and pupal weight. Altogether, intrinsic rate of increase, finite rate of increase and net reproduction rate of the rice leaf folder population were all reduced at both the low and high silicon addition rates. Although the third instars consumed more in silicon-amended treatments, C:N ratio in rice leaves was significantly increased and food conversion efficiencies were reduced due to increased silicon concentration in rice leaves. Our results indicate that reduced food quality and food conversion efficiencies resulted from silicon addition account for the enhanced resistance in the susceptible rice variety to the rice leaf folder.  相似文献

The bacterial community living in the insect gut may play an important role in nutrition, immunity and protection, detoxification of toxins, and inter- and intra-specific communication. Rice leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is a notorious pest in rice, and the diversity of the gut bacteria of C. medinalis across life stages are not well understood. Here, the diversity and abundance of the gut bacterial community in C. medinalis through life stages were investigated using Illumina Miseq technology. A total of 22 bacterial phyla, 42 classes, 100 orders, 179 families, 350 genera and 395 species were identified across the different life stages of C. medinalis. Proteobacteria and Firmicutes phyla were the dominant bacterial taxa. Members of the genera Enterococcus, unclassified Enterobacteriaceae, Wolbachia, Acinetobacter, Stenotrophomonas, Microbacterium, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Lampropedia, and Sphingobacterium were found at all life stages. Enterococcus and unclassified Enterobacteriaceae occupied higher relative abundance among bacteria community in the 2nd to 5th instar larvae, pupae and adults. The structure of bacterial community differed across the life stages of C. medinalis. Our findings will enrich the understanding of gut bacteria in C. medinalis, and will provide foundation and assistance for the development of novel pest management strategies through utilization of microbiota.  相似文献

The rice leafroller Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée) is a serious insect pest of rice with migratory ability. In this work, we studied the effects of age, temperature and reproductive status on the wing beat frequency (WBF). The longevity of this moth reached 30.6 days at 16 °C, which was significantly longer than that at 26 and 32 °C (10.7 and 8.8 days, respectively). The WBF of the 1-day-old moths did not differ significantly among the three temperature treatments. However, the WBF of the 2- to 7-day-old moths differed significantly among those temperatures, with the highest WBF at 26 °C and the lowest WBF at 32 °C. Both age and temperature significantly affected the WBF. No significant differences in WBF were detected either between mated and unmated or between parous and nulliparous female moths. There were no significant differences on WBF among field-collected females on different stages of ovary development. Significant correlations were found between the WBF and the tethered flight duration in field-collected moths as well as in laboratory-reared moths. These results indicated that the WBF was intensively influenced by age and temperature, and it may be a potential index to evaluate the flight ability of this species.  相似文献

Ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are the targets of two novel classes of synthetic insecticidal chemicals, phthalic acid diamides and anthranilic diamides. Isolation of full-length RyR cDNAs is a critical step towards the structural and functional characterization of insect RyRs and an understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the species selective toxicity of diamide insecticides. However, there has been little research on the insect RyR genes due to the high molecular weight of the RyR proteins. In this study, we isolated a full-length RyR cDNA (named as CmRyR) from Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, an important rice pest throughout Southeast Asia. The composite CmRyR gene contains an ORF of 15264 bp encoding a protein of 5087 amino acid residues, which shares 79% overall identity with its Drosophila melanogaster homologue. All hallmarks of the RyR proteins are conserved in the CmRyR protein, suggesting that CmRyR is a structural and functional analogue of known RyRs. A multiple sequence alignment illustrates that the insect RyRs share high levels of amino acid sequence identity at the the COOH-terminal region. However, the amino acid residues analogous to the CmRyR residues N(4922), N(4924), N(4935), L(4950), L(4981), N(5013) and T(5064) are unique to lepidopteran RyRs compared with non-lepidopteran insect RyRs. This finding suggests that these residues may be involved in the differences in channel properties between lepidopteran and non-lepidopteran insect RyRs and in the species selective toxicity of diamide insecticides. Furthermore, two alternative splicing sites were identified in the CmRyR gene, one of which was located in the central part of the predicted second SPRY domain. Diagnostic PCR showed that the inclusion frequencies of two mutually exclusive exons (a/b) and one optional exon (c) differed between developmental stages or adult anatomical regions. Our results imply that alternative splicing may be a major means of generating functional diversity in C. medinalis RyR channel.  相似文献

Rice leaffolder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée), is a destructive and widespread pest on rice. In this study, 20 microsatellite markers were isolated and characterized from C. medinalis partial genomic libraries using the method of fast isolation by AFLP of sequence containing repeats. Of these markers, 18 markers displayed polymorphisms. Polymorphisms were evaluated in 48 individuals from two natural populations. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 15, and the expected and observed heterozygosities ranged from 0.324 to 0.934 and from 0.304 to 0.917, respectively. Cross-species amplification was also performed to test the transferability of the 20 microsatellite markers and a moderate level of cross amplication was observed across the three species of Pyralididae (26.67 %). These microsatellite loci would facilitate the future study on population genetics and molecular genetics of rice leaffolder and would also be useful for study in Chilo suppressalis, Scirpophaga incertulas and Pyrausta nubilalis.  相似文献

Detached leaf bioassays, open field tests and cage tests were conducted to evaluate the control efficacy of two transgenic rice lines, expressing Cry1Ac and CpTI, against Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée) during 2005-2006 in Fuzhou, China. Bioassay results showed that cumulative feeding areas of C. medinalis on transgenic lines were significantly lower than that on control rice lines at different developmental stages. The corrected mortalities at 96 h after infestation on transgenic lines during six rice growth stages were >90% and 100% during experiments conducted in 2005 and 2006, respectively. In the open field test, there was no significant difference in egg density between transgenic and control lines during early days of infestation, but significant differences were detected in late season, due to serious damage on control lines. Larval densities on control lines were significantly higher than the low larval populations observed on transgenic lines during both seasons. The percentages of plants with folded leaves and percentages of folded leaves on transgenic lines were significantly lower than that on control lines with and without insecticide applications, during the entire season. In cage tests the cumulative numbers of C. medinalis adults derived from transgenic lines were significantly lower than that from control lines with and without insecticide treatments. The high level of efficacy of the two transgenic rice lines against C. medinalis may provide an important basis for reduced insecticide applications, an expansion of alternative pest-control strategies and insect resistance management of Bt rice in the future.  相似文献

The hymenopteran Macrocentrus cingulum usually deposits one egg into the larval body cavity of lepidopteran Ostrinia furnacalis, and the egg subsequently splits into several dozens of embryos during its development. How the parasitoid eggs and embryos avoid encapsulation by the host's immune response remains unknown. We compared hemocyte counts, morphologies and behaviors between unparasitized O. furnacalis larvae, and larvae parasitized by M. cingulum. No distinct differences were observed. Sephadex A-25 beads elicited a strong encapsulation response when injected into the parasitized host larvae, which indicates that parasitism by M. cingulum does not affect host's cellular immunity. However, there were significant differences in the host's encapsulation reactions towards injected eggs from different sources. Injected M. cingulum mature eggs excised from the lateral oviducts of the female wasps were not encapsulated, while immature eggs or driselase treated mature ones provoked an encapsulation response within 2 h after injection. Inspection of eggs by transmission electron microscopy revealed that the driselase collapsed the surface fibrous layer of the eggs, indicating that surface fibrous layer may play a role in protecting eggs from host's immune attack.  相似文献

Autoplusia egena (Guenée) is a moth distributed throughout the Western hemisphere. The larvae have already been found feeding on several different plant families, including important crops such soybeans and beans. To contribute to the knowledge of its biology in laboratory conditions, and considering the duration and the morphometry of each development stage, a laboratorial rearing was accomplished at 25 +/- 1 degrees C, 70 +/- 10% RH and 14h photophase. The larvae were fed with black bean leaves and the adults were fed with a honey solution at 10%. The results, expressed by the mean (+/- SE), for the periods of each stage were: egg 3.0 +/- 0.00 d; larva 15.7 +/- 1.25 d; pre-pupa 1.9 +/- 0.05 d; pupa 8.8 +/- 0.09 d and adult: longevity 12.1 +/- 0.95 d, pre-oviposition 5.4 +/- 0.50 d, oviposition 6.3 +/- 1.10 d and post-oviposition 1.4 +/- 0.87 d. The larvae went through five instars, for which the mean width of the cephalic capsules were 0.302 +/- 0.001 mm; 0.500 +/- 0.003 mm; 0.854 +/- 0.008 mm; 1.424 +/- 0.011 mm and 2.744 +/- 0.053 mm. The average length, width, and weight of the pupae were 16.965 +/- 0.003 mm, 4.674 +/- 0.040 mm and 0.217 +/- 0.003 g, respectively.  相似文献

Helicoverpa armigera and Helicoverpa assulta are sympatric sibling species, and in the laboratory they can interbreed and produce viable offspring. To assess the contributions of temporal barriers and sexual barriers to premating isolation, we investigated both the temporal rhythms of calling behavior and pheromone titers of H. armigera and H. assulta females and the behavioral responses of males to conspecific and heterospecific calling females in a wind tunnel. Both H. armigera and H. assulta females called throughout the scotophase, and there was more calling during the second half of the scotophase than during the first half. Maximal pheromone titer and maximal calling activity in H. armigera synchronously occurred at the sixth hour into the scotophase, whereas, in H. assulta, the maximal pheromone titer occurred 2 h before the peak of calling. Pheromone blend ratios of the two species were opposite and, within each species, changes in the ratio within the scotophase and at different ages were relatively small. Males of both H. armigera and H. assulta responded strongly to their conspecific calling females in the wind tunnel and completed the whole courtship sequence. In contrast, they did not land and had no copulation attempts in response to heterospecific calling females. These results show that the two species do not have obvious temporal differences in calling behavior and pheromone production, and the specificity of sex pheromone blend emitted by females plays a key role in their premating isolation. In addition, we summarized the potential isolation mechanisms of H. armigera and H. assulta.  相似文献

Grapholita molesta (Busck) (the oriental fruit moth; OFM) and Conogethes punctiferalis (Guenée) are both fruit and stem borers with overlapping habitats, occurrences, and outbreak cycles. These two species are in different families and they have completely different sex pheromone components. Here, the effects of the sex pheromone components of C. punctiferalis, (E)-10-hexadecenal (E10-16:Ald) and (Z)-10-hexadecenal (Z10-16:Ald) and their mixture, were evaluated on the sexual communication of OFM by examining electrophysiological (EAG) and behavioral responses. We found that a considerably large amount of E10-16:Ald or Z10-16:Ald and a tiny amount of OFM pheromone elicited comparable EAG responses in OFM males, indicating the low antennal olfactory sensitivity of OFM males to the heterospecific pheromone compounds. In two different peach orchard parcels, captures of OFM by their pheromone lures baited in delta traps were increased by at least 1.5 times when OFM pheromone lures were combined with lures that contained 1000 μg of either E10-16:Ald, Z10-16:Ald or their mixture. In two other pear orchard parcels, both E10-16:Ald and Z10-16:Ald increased captures of OFM in Unitraps in a dose-dependent manner with more than a four-fold increase. Therefore, the enhanced attractiveness of OFM lures by the two interspecific pheromones suggests their potential application to improve mass trapping, population monitoring and mating disruption of OFM.  相似文献

The two closely related moth species, Helicoverpa armigera and H. assulta, are sympatric in China. Both species use a mixture of (Z)-11-hexadecenal (Z11-16:Ald) and (Z)-9-hexadecenal (Z9-16:Ald) as their sex pheromones but in widely different ratios. Hybridization and backcrossing experiments between H. armigera and H. assulta were conducted and sex pheromone compositions of the parent species, their F(1) hybrids and backcrosses were compared to study the genetic basis of the production of their sex pheromone blend composition. Results show that the difference in sex pheromone blend ratios of these Helicoverpa species is mainly controlled by an autosomal locus with two alleles, with the allele from H. armigera being almost completely dominant over that derived from H. assulta.  相似文献

The occurrence of Rachiplusia nu (Guenée) is registered for the first time in tobacco [Nicotiana tabacum L. (Solanaceae)]. The specimens were collected in a Virginia tobacco field, in Venancio Aires, State of Rio Grande do Sul. Caterpillars occurred in large infestations, causing important damage to tobacco leaves, and demanding chemical control to minimize losses. This occurrence indicates that this species can feed on Virginia tobacco, which corresponds to 80% of the tobacco area of Rio Grande do Sul, and so presents high risk to become an important pest in tobacco fields.  相似文献

Copitarsia gibberosa n. sp. is described from Chile and Argentina. Morphological characters are discussed to differentiate it from Copitarsia decolora (Guenée), Copitarsia incommoda (Walker), and Copitarsia corruda (Pogue & Simmons). Copitarsia corruda has its status revised based on CO1 and morphology. Copitarsia paraturbata Castillo & Angulo is a new synonym of C. incommoda based on morphology. Copitarsia uncilata Burgos & Leiva is a new synonym of C. decolora based on morphology. A review of recent literature revealed a misunderstanding of the complex of species related to C. decolora, and these papers are evaluated and species are identified. Host plant utilization is discussed between C. decolora and C. corruda. Adults and male and female genitalia are illustrated to differentiate between the species in the C. decolora species complex. Keys to male and females based on genitalic morphology are given. Distribution maps of collected specimens are provided.  相似文献

Odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) are translators of the external chemical signals, which are critical for maintaining insect life. However, few OBPs were reported in the yellow peach moth (YPM), Conogethes punctiferalis (Guenée). In the current study, five OBPs (CpunOBP1, CpunOBP2, CpunOBP7, CpunPBP2 and CpunPBP4) were expressed and purified from the antennae of the YPM. The results showed that the proteins encoded by five CpunOBPs had six conserved cysteine residues, which were typical structural features of classic OBPs. Moreover, the fluorescence competitive binding assays indicated that the binding affinity of five CpunOBPs to the selected YPM female sex pheromones, host plant volatiles and Penicillium-inoculated apple volatiles was obviously different. The binding affinities of CpunOBP1 and CpunOBP2 with β-ionone were the strongest. CpunOBP7 could bind with 12 host plant volatiles but was unable to interact with any one of the three tested female sex pheromones. CpunPBP2 and CpunPBP4 exhibited the highest binding affinity to female sex pheromone trans-10-hexadecenal among 30 tested compounds. In conclusion, these results suggest the functional differentiation of the CpunOBPs in recognizing sex pheromones, host plant volatiles and fungus-infected host plant volatiles, which will provide new insights into selecting target proteins for YPM biocontrol.  相似文献
