Fifty normal noninfarct patients and 12 cases with infarcts of the cerebrum were examined with routine magnetic resonance imaging and echo-planar diffusion-weighted imaging. The diffusion-weighted three-dimensional images were reconstructed with volume-rendering processing on workstation. Precentral gyrus, post-central gyrus, superior parietal lobule, superior frontal gyrus, precentral sulcus, central sulcus, postcentral sulcus, intraparietal sulcus and superior frontal sulcus were best shown of all structures with an arbitrary score of 2.61–2.77. Supramarginal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus and lateral sulcus were clearly shown in the majority of the cerebra with average scores of 2.0–2.49; angular gyrus, inferior frontal sulcus and superior temporal gyrus were not demonstrated satisfactorily and their average scores were 1.67–1.89. Middle temporal gyrus, inferior temporal gyrus, superior temporal sulcus and inferior temporal sulcus were difficult to identify, and thus had average scores of 0.87–1.26. Brain surface structures were better displayed in the older group of individuals than in the younger group. The structures in the 12 cases with acute or chronic cerebrum infarcts were also satisfactorily demonstrated with this new technique.  相似文献

To investigate the time-course of changes in transverse relaxation time (T2) and cross-sectional area (CSA) of the quadriceps muscle after a single session of eccentric exercise, magnetic resonance imaging was performed on six healthy male volunteers before and at 0, 7, 15, 20, 30 and 60 min and 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 and 168 h after exercise. Although there was almost no muscle soreness immediately after exercise, it started to increase 1 day after, peaking 1–2 days after the exercise (P<0.01). Immediately after exercise, T2 increased significantly in the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis and intermedius muscles (P<0.05) and decreased quickly continuing until 60 min after exercise. At and after the 12th h, a significant increase was perceived again in the T2 values of the vastus lateralis and intermedius muscles (P<0.01) [maximum 9.3 (SEM 2.8)% and 10.9 (SEM 2.2)%, respectively]. The maximal values were exhibited at 24–36 h after exercise. In contrast, the rectus femoris muscle showed no delayed-stage increase. Also, in CSA, an increase after 12 h was observed in addition to the one immediately after exercise in the vastus lateralis, intermedius and medialis and quadriceps muscles as a whole (P < 0.01), reaching the maximal values at 12–24 h after exercise. The plasma creative kinase activity remained unchanged up to 24 h after and then increased significantly 48 h after exercise (P < 0.05). Beginning 12 h after exercise, the subjects whose T2 and CSA increased less than the others displayed a faster decrease in muscle soreness. These results suggested that T2 and CSA displayed bimodal responses after eccentric exercise and the time-courses of changes in them were similar to those in muscle soreness.  相似文献

This paper presents an overview of the application of and risks of exposure to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in pregnancy. It reviews the risks to the fetus by considering the hazards in terms of the three main components of an MRI system. These are the static magnetic field, the time-varying magnetic gradient fields and the pulsed radio frequency fields. The hazards discussed are biological effects, miscarriage, heating effects and acoustic noise exposure. This paper also presents a survey of MRI sites within the United Kingdom to ascertain the extent of MRI usage in pregnancy. To validate the situation of MRI in pregnancy a survey was sent to 352 MR units throughout the United Kingdom. The questions were grouped to assess (a) maternal MRI diagnosis (b) fetal MRI and (c) work practices for pregnant MRI staff. The results showed that 91% of sites were imaging pregnant women in need of diagnosis in the second and third trimester. This paper highlights that MRI can add information for fetal central nervous system abnormalities identified by ultrasound screening, however within the UK direct fetal imaging was only performed in 8% of sites. This paper indicates the need for research to be undertaken for specific MRI clinical conditions. It also advises that risk assessment for pregnant staff working in MRI is performed, and that there is a clear need for further research into the effects of MRI in pregnancy as there is a need for clear authoritive advice.  相似文献

Muscle cross-section measurement by magnetic resonance imaging   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Muscle cross-section areas were measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the thigh of a human cadaver, the results being compared with those obtained by photography of corresponding anatomic macroslices. A close correlation was found between MRI and photographic evaluation, differences between the methods ranging from nil to 9.5%, depending on the scan position and the muscle groups. In vivo MRI measurements were performed on 12 female and 16 male students, the objectivity, the test-retest reliability and the variability of the MRI measurements being studied by fixing the scan position either manually or by coronary scan. The latter method appeared to be more objective and reliable. The coefficients of variation for muscle cross-section areas measured by MRI were in the range of those for the planimetry of given cross-section areas. Allowing for differentiation between several small muscle bundles in a given area, MRI proved to be a suitable method to quantify muscle cross-sections for intra- and interindividual analysis of muscle size.  相似文献

We report a screening procedure to predict ligand coordination to EuII and EuIII using magnetic resonance imaging in which bright images indicate complexation and dark images indicate no complexation. Here, paramagnetic GdIII is used as a surrogate for EuIII in the screening procedure to enable detection with magnetic resonance imaging. The screening procedure was tested using a set of eight ligands with known coordination to EuII and EuIII, and results were found to be consistent with expected binding. Validation of the screening procedure with known coordination chemistry enables use with new ligands in the future.  相似文献

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is a new robust versatile non-invasive imaging technique that can detect global and regional myocardial dysfunction, presence of myocardial ischaemia and myocardial scar tissue in one imaging session without radiation, with superb spatial and temporal resolution, inherited three-dimensional data collection and with relatively safe contrast material. The reproducibility of CMR is high which makes it possible to use this technique for serial assessment to evaluate the effect of revascularisation therapy in patients with ischaemic heart disease.  相似文献

The stochastic nature of high-throughput screening (HTS) data indicates that information may be gleaned by applying statistical methods to HTS data. A foundation of parametric statistics is the study and elucidation of population distributions, which can be modeled using modern spreadsheet software. The methods and results described here use fundamental concepts of statistical population distributions analyzed using a spreadsheet to provide tools in a developing armamentarium for extracting information from HTS data. Specific examples using two HTS kinase assays are analyzed. The analyses use normal and gamma distributions, which combine to form mixture distributions. HTS data were found to be described well using such mixture distributions, and deconvolution of the mixtures to the constituent gamma and normal parts provided insight into how the assays performed. In particular, the proportion of hits confirmed was predicted from the original HTS data and used to assess screening assay performance. The analyses also provide a method for determining how hit thresholds--values used to separate active from inactive compounds--affect the proportion of compounds verified as active and how the threshold can be chosen to optimize the selection process.  相似文献

目的大鼠是常用的制备心脏病模型的实验动物,而磁共振成像(MRI)技术已经成为评价心脏病模型病理进程和药效的重要技术手段,但是目前国内外没有正常大鼠心脏的磁共振成像技术参数,影响了这一技术的应用。本文利用磁共振成像技术,采集和定量分析Wistar、Sprague-Dawley和Lewis三种常用大鼠的左、右心室功能参数,为心脏病模型制备和分析提供参考数据。方法利用7.0T高场强MRI心脏电影(CINE)序列,分析这三种常用大鼠活体心脏组织的左、右心室心功能参数。结果获得三种大鼠左、右心室的8—9周龄功能参数,包括:左、右心室的舒张末容积(EDV)、收缩末容积(ESV)、射血分数(EF);左心室乳头肌层面舒张末期内径(EDD)、收缩末期内径(ESD)、短轴缩短率(Fs)、舒张末前后室壁厚度(EDAWT,EDPWT)、收缩末前后室壁厚度(ESAWT,ESPWT)、前室壁增厚率(AWT)和后室壁增厚率(PwT);右心室乳头肌层面舒张末室壁厚度(EDWT)、收缩末室壁厚度(ESWT)和室壁增厚率(WT)等十八项心脏主要功能和结构的正常值。结论本研究获得的三种大鼠十八项心脏主要功能和结构的正常值,可作为心脏病模型制备成模判定和病理进程、药物评价的参考数据。  相似文献

Goal: This paper reviews recent studies evaluating human subjects for physiologic or neuro-cognitive function adverse effects resulting from exposure to static magnetic fields of magnetic resonance imaging systems.

Materials and Methods: The results of three studies are summarized. Two studies evaluated exposure to a maximum of 8 Tesla (T). The first series studied 25 normal human subjects’ sequential vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygenation, core temperature, ECG, respiratory rate) measured at different magnetic field strengths to a maximum of 8 T. A second series of 25 subjects were studied at 0.05 and 8 T (out and in the bore of the magnet), performing 12 different standardized neuro-psychological tests and auditory–motor reaction times. The subjects’ comments were recorded immediately following the study and after a three-month interval. The third study contained 17 subjects, placed near the bore of a 1.5 T magnet, and it used six different cognitive, cognitive–motor, or sensory tests.

Results: There were no clinically significant changes in the subjects’ physiologic measurements at 8 T. There was a slight increase in the systolic blood pressure with increasing magnetic field strength. There did not appear to be any adverse effect on the cognitive performance of the subjects at 8 T. A few subjects commented at the time of initial exposure on dizziness, metallic taste in the mouth, or discomfort related to the measurement instruments or the head coil. There were no adverse comments at 3 months. The 1.5 T study had two of the four neuro-behavioral domains exhibiting adverse effects (sensory and cognitive–motor).

Conclusions: These studies did not demonstrate any clinically relevant adverse effects on neuro-cognitive testing or vital sign changes. One short-term memory, one sensory, and one cognitive–motor test demonstrated adverse effects, but the significance is not clear.  相似文献

Two mono-substituted manganese polyoxometalates, K(6)MnSiW(11)O(39) (MnSiW(11)) and K(8)MnP(2)W(17)O(61) (MnP(2)W(17)), have been evaluated by in vivo and in vitro experiments as the candidates of potential tissue-specific contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). T1-relaxivities of 12.1mM(-1)s(-1) for MnSiW(11) and 4.7 mM(-1)s(-1) for MnP(2)W(17) (400 MHz, 25 degrees C) were higher than or similar to that of the commercial MRI contrast agent (GdDTPA). Their relaxivities in BSA and hTf solutions were also reported. After administration of MnSiW(11) and MnP(2)W(17) to Wistar rats, MR imaging showed longer and remarkable enhancement in rat liver and favorable renal excretion capability. The signal intensity increased by 74.0+/-4.9% for the liver during the whole imaging period (90 min) and by 67.2+/-5.3% for kidney within 20-70 min after injection at 40+/-3 micromol kg(-1) dose for MnSiW(11). MnP(2)W(17) induced 71.5+/-15.1% enhancement for the liver in 10-45 min range and 73.1+/-3.2% enhancement for kidney within 5-40 min after injection at 39+/-3 micromol kg(-1) dose. In vitro and in vivo study showed MnSiW(11) and MnP(2)W(17) being favorable candidates as the tissue-specific contrast agents for MRI.  相似文献

Animal studies have found that deficits in brain docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) accrual during perinatal development leads to transient and enduring abnormalities in brain development and function. Determining the relevance of this evidence to brain disorders in humans has been hampered by an inability to determine antimortem brain DHA levels and limitations associated with a postmortem approach. Accordingly, there is a need for alternate or complementary approaches to better understand the role of DHA in cortical function and pathology, and conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques may be ideally suited for this application. A major advantage of neuroimaging is that it permits prospective evaluation of the effects of manipulating DHA status on both clinical and neuroimaging variables. Emerging evidence from MRI studies suggest that greater DHA status is associated with cortical structural and functional integrity, and suggest that reduced DHA status and abnormalities in cortical function observed in psychiatric disorders may be interrelated phenomenon. Preliminary evidence from animal MRI studies support a critical role of DHA in normal brain development. Neuroimaging research in both human and animals therefore holds tremendous promise for developing a better understanding of the role of DHA status in cortical function, as well as for elucidating the impact of DHA deficiency on neuropathological processes implicated in the etiology and progression of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders.  相似文献

Background: Local recurrence, the most frequent pattern of recurrence of rectal carcinoma, is almost always fatal. The difficulty of diagnosing local recurrence contributes importantly to the poor prognosis. Methods: We coupled monoclonal antibody (Mab) A7, which reacts specifically with human colorectal carcinoma, to ferromagnetic lignosite (FML) particles to distinguish rectal carcinoma from other tissues by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. We examined retention of immunoreactivity by the A7-FML complexes in vitro, and also their distribution in vivo according to radiolabeling and MR imaging when injected into nude mice bearing human colorectal carcinoma xenografts. Results: A7-FML retained binding activity nearly identical to that of Mab A7. Significantly more 125I-labeled A7-FML accumulated in engrafted tumors than did 125I-labeled normal mouse IgG-FML complexes (P<0.05). A7-FML disappeared rapidly from the blood. Normal tissues accumulated less 125I-labeled A7-FML than tumors; this accumulation decreased linearly with time. In MR imaging, signal intensity was reduced in the tumor by the injection of A7-FML. Conclusions: A7-FML is potentially useful as a MR contrast enhancing agent for human colorectal carcinoma xenografts implanted subcutaneously.  相似文献

Mixing is a unit operation that combines two or more components into a homogeneous mixture. This work involves mixing two viscous liquid streams using an in-line static mixer. The mixer is a split-and-recombine design that employs shear and extensional flow to increase the interfacial contact between the components. A prototype split-and-recombine (SAR) mixer was constructed by aligning a series of thin laser-cut Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) plates held in place in a PVC pipe. Mixing in this device is illustrated in the photograph in Fig. 1. Red dye was added to a portion of the test fluid and used as the minor component being mixed into the major (undyed) component. At the inlet of the mixer, the injected layer of tracer fluid is split into two layers as it flows through the mixing section. On each subsequent mixing section, the number of horizontal layers is duplicated. Ultimately, the single stream of dye is uniformly dispersed throughout the cross section of the device. Using a non-Newtonian test fluid of 0.2% Carbopol and a doped tracer fluid of similar composition, mixing in the unit is visualized using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI is a very powerful experimental probe of molecular chemical and physical environment as well as sample structure on the length scales from microns to centimeters. This sensitivity has resulted in broad application of these techniques to characterize physical, chemical and/or biological properties of materials ranging from humans to foods to porous media (1, 2). The equipment and conditions used here are suitable for imaging liquids containing substantial amounts of NMR mobile (1)H such as ordinary water and organic liquids including oils. Traditionally MRI has utilized super conducting magnets which are not suitable for industrial environments and not portable within a laboratory (Fig. 2). Recent advances in magnet technology have permitted the construction of large volume industrially compatible magnets suitable for imaging process flows. Here, MRI provides spatially resolved component concentrations at different axial locations during the mixing process. This work documents real-time mixing of highly viscous fluids via distributive mixing with an application to personal care products.  相似文献

The present paper proposes the development of a new approach for automated diagnosis, based on classification of magnetic resonance (MR) human brain images. Wavelet transform based methods are a well-known tool for extracting frequency space information from non-stationary signals. In this paper, the proposed method employs an improved version of orthogonal discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for feature extraction, called Slantlet transform, which can especially be useful to provide improved time localization with simultaneous achievement of shorter supports for the filters. For each two-dimensional MR image, we have computed its intensity histogram and Slantlet transform has been applied on this histogram signal. Then a feature vector, for each image, is created by considering the magnitudes of Slantlet transform outputs corresponding to six spatial positions, chosen according to a specific logic. The features hence derived are used to train a neural network based binary classifier, which can automatically infer whether the image is that of a normal brain or a pathological brain, suffering from Alzheimer's disease. An excellent classification ratio of 100% could be achieved for a set of benchmark MR brain images, which was significantly better than the results reported in a very recent research work employing wavelet transform, neural networks and support vector machines.  相似文献

目的对cTnTR141W扩张型心肌病转基因模型小鼠左、右心室进行对比分析,研究cTnTR141W转基因小鼠作为右心室心肌病的动物模型的可行性。方法利用7.0 T高场强磁共振成像(MRI)技术,定量分析了2、4、6和8月龄对照组及cTnTR141W转基因模型小鼠左、右心室的舒张末容积(EDV)、收缩末容积(ESV)和射血分数(EF)的变化情况,同时对6月龄对照组cTnTR141W转基因模型小鼠心肌组织进行组织学分析。结果转基因阴性对照小鼠相比,cTnTR141W转基因小鼠左、右心室的容积在2月龄时已有增大趋势,而射血分数有减小趋势。右心室射血分数减小出现最早也最显著(P<0.05)。随年龄增加,cTnTR141W转基因小鼠与转基因阴性对照小鼠相比,右心室的结构和功能的病理生理变化与左心室同时趋于严重。该小鼠左、右心室在4月龄后表现典型的扩张型心肌病表型。结论 cTnTR141W转基因模型小鼠左心室和右心室的扩张性心肌病表型同时出现,该小鼠可作为右室性心肌病等右心室功能下降相关疾病研究的动物模型。  相似文献

Novel magnetic resonance imaging sequences have and still continue to play an increasing role in neuroimaging and neuroscience. Among these techniques, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has revolutionized the diagnosis and management of diseases such as stroke, neoplastic disease and inflammation. However, the effects of aging on diffusion are yet to be determined. To establish reference values for future experimental mouse studies we tested the hypothesis that absolute apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) of the normal brain change with age. A total of 41 healthy mice were examined by T2-weighted imaging and DWI. For each animal ADC frequency histograms (i) of the whole brain were calculated on a voxel-by-voxel basis and region-of-interest (ROI) measurements (ii) performed and related to the animals' age. The mean entire brain ADC of mice <3 months was 0.715(+/-0.016) x 10(-3) mm2/s, no significant difference to mice aged 4 to 5 months (0.736(+/-0.040) x 10(-3) mm2/s) or animals older than 9 months 0.736(+/-0.020) x 10(-3) mm2/s. Mean whole brain ADCs showed a trend towards lower values with aging but both methods (i + ii) did not reveal a significant correlation with age. ROI measurements in predefined areas: 0.723(+/-0.057) x 10(-3) mm2/s in the parietal lobe, 0.659(+/-0.037) x 10(-3) mm2/s in the striatum and 0.679(+/-0.056) x 10(-3) mm2/s in the temporal lobe. With advancing age, we observed minimal diffusion changes in the whole mouse brain as well as in three ROIs by determination of ADCs. According to our data ADCs remain nearly constant during the aging process of the brain with a small but statistically non-significant trend towards a decreased diffusion in older animals.  相似文献

This study examined the relationships between thigh muscle volume (TMV) and aerobic and anaerobic performance in children. A total of 32 children, 16 boys and 16 girls, aged 9.9 (0.3) years completed a treadmill running test to exhaustion for the determination of peak oxygen uptake (peak O2) and a Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) for the determination of peak power (PP) and mean power (MP). The volume of the right thigh muscle was determined using magnetic resonance imaging. TMV was not significantly different in boys and girls [2.39 (0.29) l vs 2.18 (0.38) l, P > 0.05]. Peak O2 and MP were significantly higher in boys than girls (P < 0.01) whether expressed in absolute, mass-related or allometrically scaled terms. Absolute PP was not significantly different in boys and girls but mass-related and allometrically scaled values were higher in boys (P < 0.01). TMV was correlated with absolute peak O2, PP and MP in both sexes (r = 0.52–0.89, P < 0.01). In boys, mass-related PP was correlated with TMV (r =0.53, P < 0.01), and in girls mass-related peak O2 was correlated with TMV (r = −0.61, P < 0.01). However, in neither sex were allometrically scaled peak O2, PP or MP correlated with TMV (P > 0.05). There were no significant differences between boys and girls in terms of peak O2, PP or MP when expressed in a ratio to TMV or allometrically scaled TMV. In conclusion, this study has demonstrated that, when body size is appropriately accounted for using allometric scaling, TMV is unrelated to indices of aerobic and anaerobic power in 10-year-old children. Furthermore, there appear to be no qualitative differences in the muscle function of boys and girls in respect of aerobic and anaerobic function. Accepted: 4 February 1997  相似文献
