Survivors of Spilarctia obliqua derived from 3rd instars that had ingested LC50 of imidacloprid (0.025%), dichlorvos (0.014%) and endosulfan (0.012%) were studied through the life table method. Survivorship was reduced in insecticide exposed populations as compared to 45‐day in the control groups. Egg hatching was significantly decreased for the insecticide treated populations. Total larval mortality was the highest for endosulfan (36.76%) as compared to the individuals that died among control groups (14.29%). Life expectancy (ex) was decreased gradually over time and stage of development for insecticides tested and the control groups. Dichlorvos (0.014%) has caused a significant reduction in the potential fecundity i.e. 315 females/female/generation, while 415 in the unexposed cohorts. Net reproductive rate (Ro) was the lowest in endosulfan (118.47 females/female/generation) treatment followed by dichlorvos (141.97), imidacloprid (144.49) and the control groups (272.42). Similarly, the intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was substantially decreased after exposure with endosulfan (0.124 females/female/day) as compared to 0.135 in the unexposed cohort. The finite rate of increase (λ) was not significantly different among the insecticide treatments and control groups. Mean generation time was significantly reduced after exposure to dichlorvos (37.19 days). However, 41.34 days were required to complete one generation by S. obliqua in the absence of insecticides. Based on these results, population of S. obliqua would double in 5.19 days under the influence of dichlorvos while requiring 5.13 days for unexposed cohorts.  相似文献

Urolepis rufipes Ashmead, a recently discovered parasitoid of house flies at New York dairies, was reared at 15, 20, 25, 30 and 34°C to measure daily fertility, fecundity and adult survivorship. Little reproduction occurred at 15°C, and only a few ♀ successfully emerged at 34°C. The intrinsic rate of growth was fastest at 30°C (0.282 ♀/day), but fecundity was highest at 25°C (165.5 hosts attacked, producing 124.5 progeny). Some reproductive statistics at 25°C were: net reproductive rate (R0=72.1 ♀/♀, generation time =18.7 days, intrinsic rate of increase (rm)=0.228, finite rate of increase (λ)=1.26, daily birth rate =0.302, daily death rate =0.021 and Fisher's reproductive value =418. Sex ratio (average =75.9%) did not vary significantly with temperature (between 20–30°C) nor with mother's age.   相似文献

Summary Inflection points in animal population growth curves (expressed as a fraction of equilibrium population levels) are correlated with rates of increase per generation. The inflection point declines with increasing rates of increase per generation. This apparent unifying principle of population dynamics is independent of phenomena related to body size since the rate of increase per generation is not correlated with body size. Species as diverse as whales and bacteria appear to conform to the pattern. More studies of the observed relationships are to be encouraged.  相似文献

Conservation planning for protected species often relies on estimates of life‐history parameters. A commonly used parameter is the instantaneous maximum population growth rate (rmax) that can be used to limit removals and design recovery targets. Estimation of rmax can be challenging because of limited availability of species‐ and population‐specific data and life‐history information. We applied a method proposed by Neil and Lebreton, originally developed for birds, to loggerhead turtles. The method uses age‐at‐first‐reproduction and adult survival to estimate rmax. We used a variety of datasets and matrix population models to confirm an allometric assumption required by the method, and to generate estimates of age‐at‐first‐reproduction and adult survival. A meta‐analysis was applied to parameters from reported growth curves, which were then combined with the size distribution of neophyte nesters to derive estimates of age‐at‐first‐reproduction. Adult survival rates were obtained from an existing matrix population model. Monte Carlo simulation was then used to combine the estimates of the allometric coefficients, age‐at‐first‐reproduction, and adult survival to obtain a probability distribution of approximate rmax values. Estimated annual maximum population growth rates averaged 0.024, with a mode of 0.017 and a 95% highest density interval of 0.006–0.047. These estimates were similar to values reported by others using different methods and captured the variability in positive, annual change estimates across nesting beach sites for the northwest Atlantic loggerhead population. The use of life‐history parameters has a long history in wildlife and fisheries management and conservation planning. Our estimates of rmax, while having some biases and uncertainty, encompassed values presently used in recovery planning for loggerhead turtles and offer additional information for the management of endangered and threatened species.  相似文献

Realistic values of population growth rates are needed when used in forecasting programmes, e.g., in a programme of integrated control. Therefore, comparisons were made in a chrysanthemum – aphid system between different methods of assessing population growth rates. The reproductive performances of the aphid species Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae were measured on two chrysanthemum cultivars using three plant growth stages (young vegetative, budding and flowering). In the first set of experiments, development time and reproduction were used to estimate the population growth rate rm. The mean relative growth rates (MRGR) were also assessed. It was shown for the first time that the relationship between rm and MRGR was influenced by aphid species. In a second experiment, the aphid population increase on a whole plant was measured and rm was estimated by calculating the slope of the (ln transformed) population increase. It is shown that population growth rate is affected by the growth stage of the plant, and that cultivar and aphid species interact with plant growth stage in influencing population growth rate. Thus, no single growth stage of chrysanthemum for maximal aphid population growth can be assigned, but the budding and flowering stage are the most suitable in three out of four aphid × cultivar combinations. Comparison between the results from both experiments demonstrates clearly that more realistic values for rm are obtained when measured on whole plants.  相似文献

In the present studies, life table data and intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) of the eulophid pupal parasitoid,P. furvus (Gahan) were obtained fromChilo partellus (Swinhoe) at a constant temperature of 26.7±0.6°C, 52.3±2.7% RH in the laboratory. Development of immature stages took 19.1±0.3 days; adult females lived for 7.9±3.3 (range, 2–13) days and produced a mean of 91.9±22.4 progeny per female, with a sex ratio of 1:2.9 (♂:♀). The intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) was 0.2558/female/day; the net reproductive rate (R0), 237.25; the capacity for increase (rc) of 0.252; and the finite rate of increase (λ) of 1.29/female/day; thus, each female contributed 231.42 individuals to the population in a mean generation time of 21.38 days.   相似文献

Many insect field populations, especially aphids, often exhibit irregular and even catastrophic fluctuations. The objective of the present study is to explore whether or not the population intrinsic rates of growth ( r m) obtained under laboratory conditions can shed some light on the irregular changes of insect field populations. We propose to use the catastrophe theory, one of the earliest nonlinear dynamics theories, to answer the question. To collect the necessary data, we conducted a laboratory experiment to investigate population growth of the Russian wheat aphid (RWA), Diuraphis noxia (Mordvilko), in growth chambers. The experiment was designed as the factorial combinations of five temperatures and five host plant-growth stages (25 treatments in total): 1800 newly born RWA nymphs arranged in the 25 treatments (each treatment with 72 repetitions) were observed for their development, reproduction and survival through their entire lifetimes. After obtaining the population intrinsic rates of growth ( r m) from the experimental data under various environmental conditions, we built a cusp catastrophe model for RWA population growth by utilizing r m as the system state variable, and temperature and host plant-growth stage as control variables. The cusp catastrophe model suggests that RWA population growth is intrinsically catastrophic , and dramatic jumps from one state to another might occur even if the temperature and plant-growth stage change smoothly . Other basic behaviors of the cusp catastrophe model, such as catastrophic jumps , hystersis and divergence , are also expected in RWA populations. These results suggest that the answer to the previously proposed question should be "yes".  相似文献

研究了3种微生态制剂(复合微生态制剂Ⅰ、复合微生态制剂Ⅱ和芽孢杆菌)对大型溞的急、慢性毒性影响,分析比较了3种微生态制剂的安全使用剂量以及对大型溞生殖和种群增长的影响.试验结果表明,3种微生态制剂对大型溞死亡率影响均显著(P < 0.05),从安全浓度来看,对大型溞的毒性作用依次为:复合微生态制剂Ⅱ>复合微生态制剂Ⅰ>芽孢杆菌;在安全浓度范围内,3种微生态制剂对大型溞亲代(P)的生殖和种群增长均有明显的促进作用,表现在随微生态制剂浓度的升高,P代的净生殖率(R0)和内禀增长率(rm)均显著增加(P < 0.05),其中以复合微生态制剂Ⅰ的效果最好,R0最高值为对照组的7倍,rm最高值为对照组的1.7倍;3种微生态制剂对大型溞子一代(F1)和子二代(F2)的生殖和种群增长均没有促进作用.  相似文献

Brontispa longissima is a serious pest of the coconut palm Cocos nucifera, presumed to have originated in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. It recently invaded Southeast and East Asia, where outbreaks have been reported. Mitochondrial DNA analysis reveals two cryptic species in B. longissima: one is distributed over a wide area including Asia and the Pacific region (the Asian clade) and the other in a limited area in the Pacific region (the Pacific clade). Recent invasions and outbreaks have been reported only from the area where the Asian clade has been found, suggesting that this clade has become a pest in Asia. To infer if the Asian clade has the ability to establish, spread and outbreak in novel habitats more effectively than the Pacific clade, we compared life‐history traits between the two populations of different clades. The net reproduction rate (R0) was 130.0 and 94.0, the mean length of a generation (T) was 57.7 and 54.7 days, and the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r) was 0.084 and 0.083 per day for the population from Ishigaki Island, Japan (ISH) (the Asian clade) and for the population from Papua New Guinea (PNG) (the Pacific clade), respectively. Although the difference in r was little, the simulated population growth showed that the ISH population can be 1.6 times larger than that of the PNG after ten generations. The rapid population growth of the Asian clade would be partly responsible for its establishment, spread and frequent outbreaks in Asia.  相似文献

作为豆科蔬菜上的重要害虫 ,豆荚野螟 Maruca testulalis Geyer能够对豆科蔬菜造成严重危害。研究温度对豆荚野螟不同虫期发育的影响 ,可以有利掌握其种群动态 ,以便进行有效控制。研究了室内不同温度条件下豆荚野螟的生长发育情况 ,发现在2 0~ 32℃温度范围内 ,随温度上升发育历期缩短 ;对于不同的生活史阶段 ,豆荚野螟卵、1~ 4龄幼虫、蛹及整个世代受温度影响显著 ;并计算得出完成全世代发育起点温度为 7.84℃ ,有效积温达 4 74 .2 0℃。通过内禀增长率参数的比较 ,认为各参数与温度的关系均达到极显著相关 ,以 2 9~ 32℃为豆荚野螟最适温度  相似文献

为了正确地评价不同桑树品种上朱砂叶螨为害差异,本文通过使用Jackknife方法(刀切法),采用合适的生殖力生命表构建方法,对朱砂叶螨实验种群在不同的4个桑树品种上生殖力表的内禀增长率进行了统计推断。结果表明,温度为28±1℃、相对湿度75%±10%、光周期16L∶8D的条件下,西农6071 (山桑 Morus bombycis Koidz.,2x)、和田白桑 (白桑 M. alba Linne, 3x)、新一之濑 (白桑 M. alba Linne, 2x)和大石(广东桑 M. atropurpurea Roxb., 3x) 4个桑树品种上朱砂叶螨rm值大小依次为0.41894(0.41043~0.42746)、0.37065(0.36604~0.37526)、0.36171(0.35778~0.36563)和0.35253(0.34757~0.35748)。通过对“伪值”样本同秩的成对t检验比较,这4个桑树品种对朱砂叶螨内禀增长率的影响有显著差异。结果说明朱砂叶螨对4种桑树的易感性,以西农6071、和田白桑、新一之濑、大石顺序渐弱。  相似文献

针对昆虫的某些类群成虫期长于幼期的实际情况,利用矩阵建立了内禀增长力估计的改进型模型,使得因成虫期过长而引起的世代重叠情况下,子孙后代在母代成虫存活期内的繁殖量得到表达.对成虫期远长于幼期而引发的当代成虫生殖期间,出现的世代重叠和生殖量进行估计,使得内禀增长力rm的计算与实际较为吻合.经rm的精确值估计模型的验算,证明新模型比原模型在估计rm值时,更加接近精确值.  相似文献

The effect of herbivory by Gratiana boliviana Spaeth (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) on the invasive, tropical soda apple (TSA) (Solanum viarum Dunal, Solanaceae), was investigated using exclusion methods and by monitoring the density of G. boliviana and the weed at four locations over a period of 40 months. TSA plants protected by insecticide were taller, wider, and had greater canopy cover that unprotected plants, and plants in closed cages were taller and wider than those in open cages. Survival of plants was higher in plots protected with insecticide than in unprotected plots in both years of a 2-year study. In the population dynamics study, the initial density of TSA was 4–5 times higher at one of the locations than at the other three sites, but within 3 years, TSA density at the high density site had declined by 90%. At the three sites which initially had a low abundance of TSA, density remained low throughout the study. The intrinsic rate of increase of G. boliviana varied between –3.9 and 4.5, but over the 3-year study, was not different from zero, indicating a stable population. The intrinsic rate of increase was lower than zero for the period from October to January, and greater than zero during the January to April period. In the periods from April to July and July to October, the rate of increase was not different from zero. The implications of these results for biological control of TSA in Florida are discussed.  相似文献

Biological invasions are inherently demographic processes, but trait differences between native and introduced genotypes are rarely linked to population growth rates. Native European Centaurea stoebe occurs as two cytotypes with different life histories (monocarpic diploids, polycarpic tetraploids); however, only tetraploids have been found in its introduced range in North America. In a common garden experiment using artificial populations, we compared the demographic performance of the three geo-cytotypes in the presence and absence of a specialist herbivore using periodic matrix models. We found no difference in population growth rate between the two European cytotypes and no significant effects of herbivory in all geo-cytotypes. However, there was a pronounced increase in population growth rate for North American compared with European tetraploids due to increased seed production and juvenile establishment. These results suggest that genetic drift or rapid evolution, rather than pre-adaptation through polyploidy may explain the invasion success of tetraploids.  相似文献

The Cellular Energy Allocation (CEA) methodology wasdeveloped as biomarker technique to assess the effectof toxic stress on the energy budget of testorganisms. This short-term assay is based on thebiochemical assessment of changes in the energyreserves (total carbohydrate, protein and lipidcontent) and the energy consumption (electrontransport activity). The CEA methodology was evaluatedusing Daphnia magna juveniles exposed for 96hto sublethal lindane and mercury chlorideconcentrations. The ecological relevance of the CEAassay was assessed by comparing the sub-organismalresponse with population level parameters (obtainedfrom 21 day life table experiments) such as theintrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) and themean total offspring per female. Two differentmethodologies were used to assess the effect levels:the no (lowest) observed effect level (NOAECs-LOAECs)approach and the regression-based approach. Bothtoxicants caused a significant decrease in the netenergy budget of D. magna, with a LowestObserved (Adverse) Effect Concentration (LOAEC) of0.18 mg/l and 5.6 µg/l for lindane andHgCl2,respectively. Changes in the lipid content of theorganisms were detected at toxicant concentrationslower than those affecting the total carbohydrate andprotein content. Toxicant specific effects wereobserved on the electron transport activity.Comparison of the CEA results with those of thepopulation level tests revealed that for mercury theCEA based LOAEC was a three times lower than thatbased on rm and the total brood size(18 µg/l). For lindane the CEA based LOAEC was twotimes lower than the LOAEC based on rm(0.32 mg/l) but was higher than that based on thetotal number of offspring produced (0.1 mg/l).Using the regression-based approach, EC10 valueswere calculated using three parameter sigmoid orlogistic models. Comparison between the CEA andrm based EC10 values demonstrates that forboth chemicals similar effect concentrations areobtained: the CEA-based EC10 (0.20 mg/l) forlindane is 1.5 times higher than the rm-basedEC10 threshold (0.13 mg/l), while for mercury thebiomarker-based EC10 value (9 µg/l) was 1.4times lower than the population-based EC10 value(12.5 µg/l).From these results, we suggest that the short-term CEAassay may be useful for predicting long-term effectsat the population level. The consequences of theobserved effects on the energy budget of the testorganism are discussed in the context of the effectsemerging at the population and community level.  相似文献
