Feather mites (Astigmata) are specialized parasites living on the plumage and skin of birds. The paper presents data on infestation of some passerines (Passeriformes) by feather mites in the south of Western Siberia (Omsk and Tyumen Provinces). We found 24 species of feather mites belonging to the families Analgidae, Dermoglyphidae, Pteronyssidae, Trouessartiidae, and Proctophyllodidae on 16 bird species. Among them, 19 species are common parasites of the passerine birds examined; five species were detected on atypical hosts. Ten mite species were recorded for the first time on the passerine species examined. Analysis of the distribution of abundant and common mite species on their hosts has demonstrated that the majority of the bird parasites possess a specific distribution pattern in the host plumage with preference for certain feather types. We have also obtained new data on host associations of several mite species.  相似文献

The results of long-term investigations (1994-2003) of an infection rate of trematodes of the family Prosthogonimidae in the first intermediate hosts (snails of the family Bithyniidae) and in the final hosts (birds) from a basin of the Chany Lake (Western Siberia) are discussed. A total of 1824 specimens of Bithynia tentaculata (L., 1758) and 7166 specimens of Opisthorchophorus troscheli (Paasch, 1842) have been collected from eight rivers and two lakes in the south of the Western Siberia. Data of incomplete helminthological dissection of 225 young water-fowl of 18 species were analyzed. Birds were obtained in July, August and September, 1996-2003 from the Chany lake basin. Maritas of the trematode family Prosthogonimidae were revealed in bursa Fabricii (26.12%) of seven bird species of two orders (Anseriformes and Gruiformes): Grey Lag-Goose Anser anser (L.) (Infection rate-28.6% +/- 12.1), Mallard Anas platyrhynchos L. (27.5% +/- 6.2), Shoveler--A. clypeata L. (22.2% +/- 13.9), Pochard Aythya ferina (L.) (51.7% +/- 9.3), Coot Fulica atra L. (28.6% +/- 5.6), Tufted Duck A. fuligula (L.) (1 case), Wigeon A. penelope L. (1 case). Average intensity of invasion is 5.8 marita specimens per infected bird. The maximal number of parasites (37 maritas), and also the highest average intensity of invasion are recorded for the Coot. The 342 maritas of the family Prosthogonimidae belong to three species: Prosthogonimus ovatus (Rud., 1803) (49.7%), P. cuneatus (Rud., 1809) (32.8%) and Schistogonimus rarus (Braun, 1901) (14.6%); these trematode species have been recorded in 35, 12 and 8 bird species, respectively. Grey Lag-Goose, Shoveler, Pochard and Tufted Duck are new host records for P. cuneatus in for Western Siberia. Parthenitae of trematodes (Prosthogonimidae) were revealed from eight populations of bithyniid snails. The infection rate of the trematodes (parthenitae and cercariae) in population of bithyniid snails from lake ecological system varied 6.55-54.4%, and in river ecological systems in was 0.6-4.2 %. The infection rate of trematodes (parthenitae and cercariae) of the first intermediate hosts was 2.64% that is significantly lower than that of the final hosts from the Chany Lake basin. Both O. troscheli and B. tentaculata were noted as the first intermediate hosts of prosthogonimid trematodes of three species: P. ovatus, P. cuneatus and S. rarus. All three species of trematode were found in three water reservoirs: Ob River (B. tentaculata), Kargat River (O. troscheli) and Chany Lake (O. troscheli). Thus it is found out that 39 bird species can be the final hosts of prosthogonimid trematodes. About a quarter of nestlings is infected with these trematodes. The infection rate of parthenitae in snails from the lake ecosystems is significantly higher than in the river ecosystems.  相似文献

Morphology of the Helicometra fasciata Rud., 1819 parthenogenetic generation from the Black Sea gastropods Gibbula adriatica (Phil.) was studied for the first time. Data on seasonal dynamics of the hemipopulation of daughter sporocysts are given. Daughter sporocysts of H. fasciata infest 10 +/- 0.2 % of G. adriatica (mainly specimens of larger size and elder age classes). As a rule, local microhemipopulations of daughter sporocysts castrate mollusc hosts. Reproduction of H. fasciata daughter sporocysts is asynchronous: daughter sporocysts born specimens of next sporocyst generation during autumn and winter, and then they begin producing cercaria. In winter development of the cercaria embryo is blocked. Second change of the character of the each sporocyst' posterity is impossible because of the annual life cycle of G. adriatica. Endogenous agglomeration of the H. fasciata daughter sporocysts is extremely little: individuals of next sporocyst generation develop from no more than 2 % of embryonic balls. Energy resources of the mollusc host are used by the H. fasciata daughter sporocysts mainly for producing cercaria; this fact can be interpreted as an adaptation of H. fasciata to using medium-sized, short-living mollusc hosts.  相似文献

The ecology and epizootology of Microsporidia were studied in the natural population of malarial mosquitoes from Western Siberia over a 30-year period. Symptoms of the disease, host specificity and character of parasite localization in host tissues were investigated. Microsporidia of 9 species from 4 genera, namely Amblyospora, Crepidulospora, Senoma, and Parathelohania, were found in the malarial mosquito larvae from the territory examined. The mosquito species Anopheles messeae was infested by larger number of the microsporidian species, than A. beklemishevi. Spores and active stages of the microsporidian Senoma sp. from mosquito larvae are localized in epithelial cells of the host's intestine. There are no external signs of the infestation. The infested larvae do not die, and the infection proceeds to the pupal stage. Microsporidians of the genus Parathelohania infest larvae of both male and female mosquitoes. The parasites localized in the fat body cells. Body of the infested host gets an opaque white color in the period of spore maturation. The infested larvae perish at 4th stage. Microsporidian spores are formed in the mosquito larvae of both sexes. However, infection rate is much higher in the male larvae (77.8%), than that in the female larvae (22.2%). Symptoms of the disease under the infestation by the genera Crepidulospora and Amblyospora are similar to those under the infestation by Parathelohania sp. There are no external signs of the infestation in the adult mosquito females. In these hosts microsporidians form large two-nuclear spores with a thin capsule accounted for transovarial transmission. An about two times decrease of fertility in the Anopheles messeae females infested by the Parathelohania microsporidians is revealed. Mean number of eggs laid by the infested females was 121, while that of the noninfested ones was 232. Thus, the cause of the decrease in the mosquito abundance is both the elimination of male larvae and the decrease of fertility in females. In Siberia malarial mosquitoes yield 2 or 3 generations per year. Infested larvae are rarely occurred in the beginning of summer. Maximal extensiveness of the invasion may be observed in the end of summer, because of the accumulation of the infection in water bodies. Number of the peaks of infestation coincides with the peaks of abundance of mosquito larvae of 4th stage. Peaks of infestation are delayed as compared with the peaks of mosquito abundance. It is an evidence of the development delay in the infested larvae. Long-term dynamics of the infestation by microsporidians is studied. The epizooty caused by Parathelohania was observed in the malarial mosquitoes in the eighties (with the infestation rate up to 62 %). In the last ten years the infestation rate was low (from 0.1 to 2.6%).  相似文献

Cercaria orospinosa is the only cercaria shed by Melanopsis praemorsa snails in Savanda stream, Turkey. Magnitude of infestation of snails by this cercaria was correlated with size of the snails and strength of the water current. The highest degree of infestation occurred in June, while in winter it was reduced to zero. The cercariae were released from rediae, which were found in the hepatopancreas of the snails.  相似文献

The full list of parthenogenetic larvae and cercaria is presented for the first time for the freshwater snail L. saridalensis (Gastropoda, Pulmonata), which inhabits the watershed area of Chany Lake. It was found that this snail species plays a significant role as the first intermediate host in the life cycles of trematodes in the southern part of Western Siberia. The invasion parameters were calculated for different parasite species. It was found that 50% of the L. saridalensis population serves as the first intermediate host for eleven trematode species that belong to six families: Plagiorchiidae, Echinostomatidae, Diplostomatidae, Strigeidae, Notocotylidae, and Schistosomatidae. The prevalence of infection by each trematoda species in L. saridalensis was determined. Five species of trematodes from the Plagiorchiidae and Echinostomatidae families formed the center of the parasite community, viz., the species Plagiorchis elegans, P. mutationis, Opisthioglyphe ranae, Molinella anceps, and Echinoparyphium aconiatum. Two species, Plagiorchis mutationis and P. multiglandularis, were recorded in the studied area (the Chany Lake watershed area) for the first time at the stages of parthenite and cercaria. It was also found that 1% of L. saridalensis population have multiple (mostly two-species) infections.  相似文献

The mollusc Cerithium vulgatum was first recorded as a new intermediate host of trematodes from the Black Sea. Two species of cercariae (Cercaria I and Ceracaria II) parasitizing this mollusc were found and described. The general infestation of molluscs was 7.54 per cent. Eight species of larval trematodes parasitzing 7 other species of sea molluscs were found.  相似文献

The prevalence of digenean trematode parasites in Siphonariacapensis (Pulmonata) was examined in populations from 24 sites, and in S. concinna from 10 sites along the coast of southernAfrica from 1989 to 1991. Sporocysts containing cercariae werefound in the digestive gland of both species. To date, two typesof cercaria have been isolated from S. capensis and one typefrom S. concinna, these types possibly representing three distinctspecies of trematode. In approximately 30% of parasitized S.capensis and 10% of parasitized S. concinna the digestive glandwas completely destroyed. In both species of Siphonaria therewas considerable temporal and spatial variation in parasiteprevalence. At some locations up to 40% of S. capensis wereinfected whereas at others, no parasites were found. Prevalenceof trema-todes in S. concinna rarely exceeded 12%. At severalsites the prevalence of infestation within the limpets increasedwith increasing host size. (Received 8 June 1992; accepted 6 July 1992)  相似文献

"Nude" mice are injected intravenously with 1 mg live BCG each. Pulmonary schistosomules, counted 5 days after infestation with Schistosoma mansoni cercaria are observed to be fewer in injected mice than in non-injected controls. This show that BCG immunostamulation can be obtained when mature T lymphocytes are absent.  相似文献

A survey on the importance of Lacerta bilineata as host of Ixodes ricinus was conducted in Northern Italy over a three-year period. A total of 202 western green lizards were captured and a total of 2349 ticks were collected. All ticks were identified as I. ricinus; 53.2% and 46.7% were at the larval and nymphal stages, respectively. Tick number and prevalence were higher in males than in females, especially from April to June during the host breeding period. The level of tick infestation increased with lizard age and size. The number of ticks collected on adult lizards peaked in June and in August. Infestation levels appear to be related to lizard activity patterns and behaviour. Tick number and prevalence also varied in relation to host habitat, infestation being higher in lizards from areas with hard vegetation cover.  相似文献

Fauna of parasitic and free-living arthropods associated the water vole Arvicola terestris and its nests in various landscape zones and subzones of the south of Western Siberia has been studied. Total abundance of gamasid mites and ticks (Gamasoidea, Ixodidae), fleas and nidicolous arthropods in nests is high, and the set of nidicolous and parasite species is quite diverse, but everywhere the parasite fauna is characterized by a small amount of species reaching a high abundance: Laelaps muris on the voles, Haemogamasus ambulans in nests, Ixodes apronophorus and Megpbotris walkeri both on the voles and nests. Parasitic arthropods living on the voles or in their nests are characterized by higher and stables indices of infection, while these parameters for free-living arthropods were variable. The list of mesostigmatic mites parasitizing the water vole and its nests in the south of Western Siberia (Adamovich, Krylov, 2001) has been considerably supplemented. In total, the fauna of parsitiform mites (Acari: Mesostigmata and Ixodiddes) and fleas (Siphonaptera) associated with the water vole in the south of Western Siberia is represented by 97 arthropod species of 19 families, including 74 species of mesostigmatic mites (Gamasoidea), 6 species of ticks (Ixodidae) and 17 species of fleas.  相似文献

The infrapopulation of the Echinostoma caproni partenites has a development of prolong character (Ataev et al, 2005). However, in laboratory conditions, Biomphalaria molluscs infested with this parasite die within 1--3 weeks after the beginning of cercariae emission. It has been suggested that autoinvasion of the mollusc host with the cercariae, which use it as second intermediate host, is the cause of this phenomenon. Studying the dynamics of metacercariae accumulation in the host (both infected and non-infected with the Echinostoma caproni rediae) and experiments where quantity of cercariae around molluscs reduced by different ways, confirmed this hypothesis. Evidently, pathogenicity of metacercariae for molluscs is lesser in nature, because the concentration of cercariae reduces to the values, which do not result in lethal effect: some part of cercariae dies, but another part uses other animals as a host (Haas, 2000).  相似文献

Cercaria sevillana n. sp. (Digenea: Microphallidae) was discovered infecting the gonads and digestive gland of the prosobranch Nassarius reticulatus (L.) (Nassariidae) collected from the Ria de Aveiro, Portugal. Cercariae were obtained by natural emission and were studied under a differential interference contrast microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). C. sevillana n. sp. is identical to the cercaria found by Dolgikh (1965) in the same mollusc host from the Black Sea, but erroneously named C. misenensis Palombi, 1940, which is a parasite of Cerithium rupestre Risso, 1826 (Cerithiidae). Cercaria sevillana n. sp. can be distinguished from C. misenensis by its tail being shorter than the cercarial body, as well as by differences in the pattern of penetration glands the size and shape of the stylet and excretory vesicle, and its behavioural pattern. An unusual structure of the tail of this new cercaria was observed by SEM; it is characterised by the presence of annular folded membranes arranged as overlapping flounces around its central axis. This resembles the traditional skirts of the women of Seville. Such a morphological feature of the tail has not been previously observed, but may be a feature of many microphallid cercariae.  相似文献

The Chinese rare minnow, Gobiocypris rarus, which is endemic to China, is an attractive aquatic laboratory animal in China. In the present study, the complete mitogenome sequence of G. rarus has been determined using long polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. It was 16,601 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a control region, the gene composition and order of which are similar to most other vertebrates. Except for eight tRNA and ND6 genes, all other mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand. The overall base composition of the heavy strand is 29.5% A, 27.6% T, 25.7% C, and 17.2% G, with a slight AT bias of 57.1%. There are 10 regions of gene overlap totaling 27 bp and 13 intergenic spacer regions totaling 63 bp. The mitogenome sequence of G. rarus could contribute to a better solution of its phylogenetic position within cyprinid fishes based on the whole mitogenomic data.  相似文献

This paper reports the parasites found in three commercially exploited bivalve molluscs (Mytella guyanensis, Anomalocardia brasiliana and Iphigenia brasiliana) of an estuarine region of Ilhéus, south of Bahia, Brazil (14°48′23′′S; 39°02′47′′W). Samples of 20 individuals of each species were collected fortnightly from August 2005 to August 2006. A total of 1480 individuals was collected and processed by standard histologic techniques; the histologic sections were stained with Harris haematoxylin and eosin and examined with light microscope. The water temperature in the study area varied from 24 to 30.5 °C and the salinity from 0 to 23 ppt. Remarkable differences were found in the parasitic community between the three mollusc species involved in the study, which occupied different habitats in the estuarine region of the Cachoeira river. The following parasites were found: intracellular rickettsia-like colonies in digestive epithelia; intracellular gregarine Nematopsis sp. in gills, mantle, gonad, digestive gland and foot muscle; sporocysts of a Bucephalidae trematode in gonads, mantle, gills, digestive gland and foot; unidentified digenetic metacercariae in digestive gland and gonad; metacestodes of Tylocephalum sp. in connective tissue in the digestive gland and in gonad; and an unidentified metazoan in mantle and intestinal lumen. No significant temporal variation in the prevalence of any parasite was detected, which could be due to the narrow temperature range of the region and the absence of patterns of salinity and rainfall variation through the year. The infestation by sporocyst was the only pathological threat detected for the studied populations because of its potential for host castration. The low infection intensity and/or prevalence of the other parasites and the lack of obvious lesions suggest that there is no other serious pathological risk for the studied mollusc populations.  相似文献

A comparative analysis of changes of detoxifying and antioxidant enzyme activities was carried out in the body homogenate of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis. Molluscs with the shell size of 4–6 mm infested with cercariae of one (Echinopharipjium aconiatum, E. recurvatum or Moliniella anceps) or two (E. aconiatum + M. anceps or E. aconiatum + E. recurvatum or M. anceps + E. recurvatum) trematode species. It has been reveled that activities of detoxifying and antitoxidant enzymes in the mollusc Lymnaea stagnalis body change at invasion with trematodes and that the character of the changes depends on the stage of development of the trematodes in the host body, the variant of infestation (monoinvasion or mixed infestation), and the species of the parasite. The first 2 h after penetration of the trematode cercariae into the mollusc tissues is accompanied by an increase of activities of the detoxifying and antioxidant enzymes. During the long coexistence of metacercariae in the host body (no less than for 13 days), activities of non-specific esterases and glutathione-S-transferase decrease, while the superoxide dismutase activity increases.  相似文献

Abstract  The Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is a pest of citrus in parts of Western Australia. Three citrus cultivars: Valencia oranges, Eureka lemons and Imperial mandarins, as well as non-citrus control fruits, were examined for attractiveness and suitability to Medfly in the field and in the laboratory using choice and no-choice experiments. Oranges were more susceptible to Medfly than mandarins and lemons. Punctures in the skin had a significant impact on the degree of infestation in both citrus and non-citrus control fruit. Artificial infestation and larval survivorship were used to investigate the suitability of each cultivar to Medfly under laboratory conditions. Oranges and mandarins were suitable for the development of Medfly, but lemons were a poor host. When each cultivar was in season, field cage trials demonstrated that infestation occurred in oranges and mandarins but not in lemons.  相似文献

Rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus) is a tiny Chinese carp that has a short life cycle and is easily cultured in the laboratory. In this study, juvenile rare minnows were exposed to waterborne diethylstilbestrol (DES) at 0.05, 0.5 and 5 microg/l in laboratory aquaria. After exposure for 4, 8, 13 and 21 days, juvenile fish were collected and vitellogenin (Vtg) was measured in whole body homogenates. Native and SDS electrophoresis followed by Western blotting were performed for Vtg identification, and a non-competitive ELISA was developed. In the DES exposure groups (0.5 and 5 microg/l DES), Vtg appeared after 4 days, increased significantly after 8 days and reached a maximum on day 13. Further, a significant increase in the hepatosomatic index (HSI) was found in the 5 microg/l DES exposure group after 21 days. These results indicate that rare minnow provides a good model for assessing endocrine disruption by environmental estrogens.  相似文献
