The metabolism of tritiated-testosterone in epididymis and accessory glands of reproduction was studied in the castrate hamster, Mesocricetus auratus. The amount of tritium accumulating in the epididymis was similar to that in the accessory glands 60 minutes postinjection but was significantly higher (p .02-p .001) at 150 minutes. In all accessory organs the rate of tritiated testosterone was slow; marked quantities of testosterone and androstanediol were present but the accumulation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) was relatively minimal at both time intervals studied. These results may indicate a simultaneous requirement of testosterone and androstanediol to mediate the action of androgens in the hamster while DHT may be of secondary importance.  相似文献

Morphology of the bovine epididymis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The epididymis of the bull was divided into six regions, and morphological differences between regions were studied. The epithelium of all regions contained four cell types: principal and basal epithelial cells, and intraepithelial lymphocytes and macrophages. The epithelium of regions II-V also contained a few apical cells. Principal cells of all regions possessed an endocytotic apparatus including stereocilia underlain by canaliculi, coated vesicles, and subapical vacuoles (up to 1 micron in diameter); however, large vacuoles with a flocculent content and multivesicular bodies (up to 5 microns in diameter) were most numerous in regions II, III, and IV. The unique features of principal cells of region I were the presence of well-developed Golgi bodies, few lipid droplets, and whorls of smooth endoplasmic reticulum in the supranuclear cytoplasm. Numerous mitochondria, distended cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum, and dense granules characterized the infranuclear cytoplasm of the principal cells of regions II-VI; however, these features were more developed in region V. Apical cells were characterized by the apical location of the nucleus, many mitochondria in the apical cytoplasm, and few microvilli at the luminal border. Basal cells with few cytoplasmic lipid droplets were present throughout the length of the epididymis but appeared more numerous in region V. Intraepithelial lymphocytes were present at all levels of the epithelium but were never seen in the lumen. Intraepithelial macrophages containing heterogeneous granules, eccentric nuclei, and pseudopods were invariably seen near the basal area of the epithelium in all regions. These observations are discussed in an effort to define the role of each cell type in the epididymal epithelium.  相似文献

Summary The innervation of the ductuli efferentes and seven zones of the guinea-pig epididymis was investigated using immunohistochemical, histochemical and electron-micro-scopical techniques. Nerve fibers were localized by use of antibodies against substance P (SP-IR), vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP-IR) and dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (DBH-IR). In the ductuli efferentes and all zones of the epididymal duct, SP-IR is consistently observed in the interstitial tissue and perivascular areas. Histochemistry reveals a significant amount of acetylcholinesterase-containing fibers in the interstitial, perivascular and periductal smooth muscles of the ductuli efferentes and zones V, VI and VII. In contrast to the homogeneous distribution of SP-IR within all zones of the epididymis, VIP-IR is seen only in zones VI and VII. Within these zones, VIP-IR is detected in large amounts in the subepithelial and muscular layers as is a sparse number of SP-IR varicosities. DBH-IR is also seen throughout all zones in the interstitial and perivascular regions with a tendency to increase in zones VI and VII. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) reveals evidence of a cholinergic (agranular vesicles, AGV), adrenergic (small granular vesicles, SGV) and peptidergic (large granular vesicles, LGV) innervation throughout the interstitial connective tissue of the ductuli efferentes and all epididymal zones. Furthermore AGV are localized in the subepithelial layer, and also co-stored with LGV in the muscular layer of zones VI and VII. No nerve profiles were encountered within the epithelium.Correlation of immunohistochemical findings to TEM counterparts as well as their possible functional role are discussed.Supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft  相似文献
