In spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), carotid and aortic distensibilities measured at operational blood pressure (BP) are reduced. Increased body weight and mean arterial pressure (MAP) are both known to reduce distensibility independently. However, whether, after adjustment to body weight and mean BP, distensibility remains reduced in SHR has never been investigated. Carotid and abdominal aorta distensibilities were measured under anesthesia in SHR at 5, 12, 52, and 78 wk of age, and measurements were compared with age-matched normotensive Wistar rats. Each age group was composed of 9 or 10 animals. We determined distensibility using echo-tracking techniques of high resolution. Compared with Wistar rats, carotid and aortic distensibilities measured at operational MAP are reduced in SHR. This reduction is accentuated with age, particularly for the carotid artery. After adjustment to body weight and MAP, carotid and aortic distensibilities become identical in Wistar and SHR (or even slightly increased in SHR) but continue to be reduced with age, mainly for the carotid artery. In conclusion, in SHR, age and high BP do not have a parallel and similar influence on the reduction of arterial distensibility. Aging constantly reduces arterial distensibility, whereas MAP levels contribute to maintenance of arterial function.  相似文献

 A vascular heat transfer model is developed to simulate temperature decay along the carotid arteries in humans, and thus, to evaluate temperature differences between the body core and arterial blood supplied to the brain. Included are several factors, including the local blood perfusion rate, blood vessel bifurcation in the neck, and blood vessel pairs on both sides of the neck. The potential for cooling blood in the carotid artery by countercurrent heat exchange with the jugular veins and by radial heat conduction to the neck surface was estimated. Cooling along the common and internal carotid arteries was calculated to be up to 0.87 °C during hyperthermia by high environmental temperatures or muscular exercise. This model was also used to evaluate the feasibility of lowering the brain temperature effectively by placing ice pads on the neck and head surface or by wearing cooling garments during hypothermia treatment for brain injury or other medical conditions. It was found that a 1.1 °C temperature drop along the carotid arteries is possible when the neck surface is cooled to 0 °C. Thus, the body core temperature may not be a good indication of the brain temperature during hyperthermia or hypothermia. We hypothesized that reactive carbonyls generated from smoke exposure cause increased arterial low-density lipoprotein (LDL) accumulation and endothelial layer permeability. In addition, we hypothesized that estrogen supplementation was protective against chronic environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) exposure to the artery wall. Quantitative fluorescence microscopy was used to determine artery injury after exposure. For our chronic studies, ovariectomized rats treated with subcutaneous placebo or 17beta-estradiol pellets were exposed to ETS or filtered air for 6 wk. ETS exposure increased carotid artery LDL accumulation more than fourfold compared with filtered air exposure, an effect largely mediated by increased permeability. No protective effect of estradiol was observed. Acute ETS exposure of a buffer solution containing LDL resulted in a more than sixfold increase in the highly reactive carbonyl glyoxal. Perfusion of this solution through carotid arteries resulted in a 105% increase in permeability. Moreover, perfusion of glyoxal alone caused a 50% increase in carotid artery permeability. This endothelial damage and changes in lipid accumulation may serve as an initiating event in atheroma formation in individuals exposed to ETS.  相似文献

Vascular casts of the pituitary-median eminence complex of mice,rats, dogs, sheep and monkeys were examined with the scanning electron microscope. Microfil-injected specimens of the rabbit and monkey pituitary-median eminence complex were examined by light microscopy after intracranial internal carotid artery occlusion. In each species a common neuropophyseal capillary network was found uniting infundibulum (median eminence), infundibular stem and infundibular process. This capillary bed is supplied from above by superior hypophyseal arteries and from below by inferior hypophyseal arteries. An artery to the infundibular stem was found in some species. With occlusion of the intracranial internal carotid arteries, flow through superior hypophyseal arteries did not occur. Yet the entire neurohypophyseal capillary bed filled upon injection with Microfil. These observations suggest the concept of a restricted arterial supply to the median eminence with drainage to the underlying adenohypophsis on one hand and to the infundibular process with drainage to the systemic circulation on the other must be modifed and that blood flow within the neurohypophyseal capillary bed (between infundibular process and median eminence) occurs.  相似文献

The arterial supply to the right hemiliver was studied in 80 liver casts. The arteries were divided into 10 groups according to their origin and branching pattern. The right hemiliver was supplied by one artery in 96% of cases and by two arteries in 4%. When there was only one artery it originated from the proper hepatic artery in 73/77 cases and from the superior mesenteric artery in 4/77 cases. The replacing right hepatic artery which originated from the superior mesenteric vessel supplied the whole right hemiliver in 5% of cases. The incomplete replacing right hepatic artery which supplied only a part of the right hemiliver was found in 4% of cases. The anterior section (segments 5 and 8) was supplied by one artery in 61%, by two arteries in 30% and by three arteries in 9% of cases. The posterior section (segments 6 and 7) was supplied by one artery in 66%, by two arteries in 31% and by three arteries in 3% of cases. Segments 5 and 7 were predominantly supplied by one artery, whereas segments 6 and 8 by two arteries.  相似文献

The Cerebral Circle Region, also known as the Circle of Willis (CoW), is a loop of arteries that form arterial connections between supply arteries to distribute blood throughout the cerebral mass. Among the population, only 25% to 50% have a complete system of arteries forming the CoW. 3D time-varying simulations for three different patient-specific artery anatomies of CoW were performed in order to gain a better insight into the phenomena existing in the cerebral blood flow. The models reconstructed on the basis of computer tomography images start from the aorta and include the largest arteries that supply the CoW and the arteries of CoW. Velocity values measured during the ultrasound examination have been compared with the results of simulations. It is shown that the flow in the right anterior artery in some cases may be supplied from the left internal carotid artery via the anterior communicating artery. The investigations conducted show that the computational fluid dynamic tool, which provides high resolution in both time and space domains, can be used to support physicians in diagnosing patients of different ages and various anatomical arterial structures.  相似文献

The arterial supply to the left hemiliver was studied in 70 liver casts. The arteries were divided into 15 groups according to their origin and branching pattern. The left hemiliver was supplied by one artery in 53% of cases, by two arteries in 40% and by three arteries in 7%. The left hepatic artery, which originated from the proper hepatic artery, supplied all three left segments in 39% of specimens. The replacing left hepatic artery, which originated from the left gastric artery, supplied the whole left hemiliver in 3% of cases. The incomplete, replacing left hepatic artery supplied segments 2, 3 and a part of segment 4 in 6% of cases, and only segments 2 and 3 in 11%. There was one segmental artery for segment 2 in 86%, and two in 14%. Segment 3 was supplied by one artery in 87%, and by two in 13%. Segment 4 was supplied by one artery in 39% of cases, by two arteries in 43%, by three in 14% and by four arteries in 4%.  相似文献

Understanding the mechanical behaviour of arterial tissue is vital to the development and analysis of medical devices targeting diseased vessels. During angioplasty and stenting, stress softening and permanent deformation of the vessel wall occur during implantation of the device, however little data exists on the inelastic behaviour of cardiovascular tissue and how this varies through the arterial tree. The aim of this study was to characterise the magnitude of stress softening and inelastic deformations due to loading throughout the arterial tree and to investigate the anisotropic inelastic behaviour of the tissue. Cyclic compression tests were used to investigate the differences in inelastic behaviour for carotid, aorta, femoral and coronary arteries harvested from 3-4 month old female pigs, while the anisotropic behaviour of aortic and carotid tissue was determined using cyclic tensile tests in the longitudinal and circumferential directions. The differences in inelastic behaviour were correlated to the ratio of collagen to elastin content of the arteries. It was found that larger inelastic deformations occurred in muscular arteries (coronary), which had a higher collagen to elastin ratio than elastic arteries (aorta), where the smallest inelastic deformations were observed. Lower magnitude inelastic deformations were observed in the circumferential tensile direction than in the longitudinal tensile direction or due to radial compression. This may be as a result of non-collagenous components in the artery becoming more easily damaged than the collagen fibres during loading. Stress softening was also found to be dependent on artery type. In the future, computational models should consider such site dependant, anisotropic inelastic behaviour in order to better predict the outcomes of interventional procedures such as angioplasty and stenting.  相似文献

The study of wave propagation at different points in the arterial circulation may provide useful information regarding ventriculoarterial interactions. We describe a number of hemodynamic parameters in the carotid, brachial, and radial arteries of normal subjects by using noninvasive techniques and wave-intensity analysis (WIA). Twenty-one normal adult subjects (14 men and 7 women, mean age 44 +/- 6 yr) underwent applanation tonometry and pulsed-wave Doppler studies of the right common carotid, brachial, and radial arteries. After ensemble averaging of the pressure and flow-velocity data, local hydraulic work was determined and a pressure-flow velocity loop was used to determine local wave speed. WIA was then applied to determine the magnitude, timings, and energies of individual waves. At all sites, forward-traveling (S) and backward-traveling (R) compression waves were observed in early systole. In mid- and late systole, forward-traveling expansion waves (X and D) were also seen. Wave speed was significantly higher in the brachial (6.97 +/- 0.58 m/s) and radial (6.78 +/- 0.62 m/s) arteries compared with the carotid artery (5.40 +/- 0.34 m/s; P < 0.05). S-wave energy was greatest in the brachial artery (993.5 +/- 87.8 mJ/m2), but R-wave energy was greatest in the radial artery (176.9 +/- 19.9 mJ/m2). X-wave energy was significantly higher in the brachial and radial arteries (176.4 +/- 32.7 and 163.2 +/- 30.5 mJ/m2, respectively) compared with the carotid artery (41.0 +/- 9.4 mJ/m2; P < 0.001). WIA illustrates important differences in wave patterns between peripheral arteries and may provide a method for understanding ventriculo-arterial interactions in the time domain.  相似文献

The gross examination of 50 minium injected specimens showed us the various patterns of the posterior arterial network of the wrist. This is chiefly provided by the radial artery which gives off a constant dorsal carpal branch over the posterior aspect of the trapezium. This vessel crosses the carpus transversely to the inner border of the hand and is joined in half of the cases by the interosseous artery; contribution of the posterior carpal branch of the ulnar artery was more rarely found than usually described (25%). From the arch thus formed are given off short branches which run upwards along the intercarpal joints and enter the posterior aspects of the proximal carpal bones whose lower halves seem to be the most favorably supplied. On the contrary, the distal carpal bones receive several short twigs which penetrate their posterior surfaces. Although the arrangement of the pedicles may undergo many a variation, attention must be drawn to the fact that the dorsal arteries are smaller but denser than the volar, except for the hamate. Therefore 2 different patterns of arterial supply can be described at the carpus: the blood supply of the outer and axial bones--scaphoid, trapezium, lunate, capitate--derives from the radial and the interosseous arteries and is probably shared equally by volar and dorsal branches; the inner bones--triquetrum, hamate--are primarily supplied by volar or medial branches coming almost exclusively from the ulnar artery.  相似文献

Young African-American men have altered macrovascular and microvascular function. In this cross-sectional study, we tested the hypothesis that vascular dysfunction in young African-American men would contribute to greater central blood pressure (BP) compared with young white men. Fifty-five young (23 yr), healthy men (25 African-American and 30 white) underwent measures of vascular structure and function, including carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and carotid artery beta-stiffness via ultrasonography, aortic pulse wave velocity, aortic augmentation index (AIx), and wave reflection travel time (Tr) via radial artery tonometery and a generalized transfer function, and microvascular vasodilatory capacity of forearm resistance arteries with strain-gauge plethysmography. African-American men had similar brachial systolic BP (SBP) but greater aortic SBP (P<0.05) and carotid SBP (P<0.05). African-American men also had greater carotid IMT, greater carotid beta-stiffness, greater aortic stiffness and AIx, reduced aortic Tr and reduced peak hyperemic, and total hyperemic forearm blood flow compared with white men (P<0.05). In conclusion, young African-American men have greater central BP, despite comparable brachial BP, compared with young white men. Diffuse macrovascular and microvascular dysfunction manifesting as carotid hypertrophy, increased stiffness of central elastic arteries, heightened resistance artery constriction/blunted resistance artery dilation, and greater arterial wave reflection are present at a young age in apparently healthy African-American men, and conventional brachial BP measurement does not reflect this vascular burden.  相似文献

NMR microscopy was used to obtain transverse flow profiles of arterial blood flow in the rat carotid artery at 33 microns resolution. The images were gated to the EKG and correspond to identified regions of diastole. The profiles show that flow is laminar during this part of the heart cycle. These results provide the first direct view of blood flow profiles in arteries of submillimeter diameter and suggest that animals as small as juvenile rodents will serve as valuable models for hemodynamic studies. Extensions to flow during systole, stenoses, and flow in the vicinity of the carotid bifurcation are discussed.  相似文献

We recently introduced noninvasive methods to assess local pulse wave velocity (PWV) and wave intensity ((n)dI) in arteries based on measurements of flow velocity (U) and diameter (D). Although the methods were validated in an experimental setting, clinical application remains lacking. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the effect of age and gender on PWV and (n)dI in the carotid and femoral arteries of an existing population. We measured D and U in the carotid and femoral arteries of 1,774 healthy subjects aged 35-55 yr, a subgroup of the Asklepios population. With the use of the lnDU-loop method, we calculated local PWV, which was used to determine arterial distensibility ((n)Ds). We then used the new algorithm to determine maximum forward and backward wave intensities ((n)dI(+max) and (n)dI(-min), respectively) and the reflection index ((n)RI). On average, PWV was higher, and (n)Ds was lower in the femoral than at the carotid arteries. At the carotid artery, PWV increased with age, but (n)Ds, (n)dI(+max), and (n)dI(-min) decreased; (n)RI did not change with age. At the femoral artery, PWV was higher, and (n)Ds was lower in male, but all parameters did not change significantly with age in both women and men. We conclude that the carotid artery is more affected by the aging process than the femoral artery, even in healthy subjects. The new techniques provide mechanical and hemodynamic parameters, requiring only D and U measurements, both of which can be acquired using ultrasound equipment widely available today, hence their advantage for potential use in the clinical setting.  相似文献

The hypothesis is made that a disturbance in blood flow at one place can be detected in the arterial pulse waves at a distant site. This hypothesis was motivated by the traditional Chinese medicine which uses arterial pulse waves as a principal means of diagnosis. We formulated a test by asking whether a disturbance to the blood flow in a leg can be detected by changes in the pulse waves in the radial arteries. In particular, we ask whether the radial artery can differentiate a disturbance in the right leg from that in the left leg. We put force transducers on the radial arteries, depressed them by a specific amount, and recorded the force waves in response to a 2-min occlusion of the blood flow in the right or left tibial artery. The results show that the radial artery force waves do change in response to the flow disturbance. For a given individual, the force varies with the location of the force transducer on the radial artery, the specific amount of initial depression, and the right or left leg occlusion. Generally, an occlusion in the right leg reduces the force level in both radial arteries, the more so in the right radial artery than in the left. Although the discrimination is not very strong, the phenomenon is novel, and warrants further investigation.  相似文献

Mortality increases when acute coronary syndromes are complicated by stress-induced hyperglycemia. Early pulse wave reflection can augment central aortic systolic blood pressure and increase left ventricular strain. Altered pulse wave reflection may contribute to the increase in cardiac risk during acute hyperglycemia. Chronic ascorbic acid (AA) supplementation has recently been shown to reduce pulse wave reflection in diabetes. We investigated the in vivo effects of acute hyperglycemia, with and without AA pretreatment, on pulse wave reflection and arterial hemodynamics. Healthy male volunteers were studied. Peripheral blood pressure (BP) was measured at the brachial artery, and the SphygmoCor pulse wave analysis system was used to derive central BP, the aortic augmentation index (AIx; measure of systemic arterial stiffness), and the time to pulse wave refection (Tr; measure of aortic distensibility) from noninvasively obtained radial artery pulse pressure (PP) waveforms. Hemodynamics were recorded at baseline and then every 30 min during a 120-min systemic hyperglycemic clamp (14 mmol/l). The subjects, studied on two separate occasions, were randomized in a double-blind, crossover manner to placebo or 2 g intravenous AA before the initiation of hyperglycemia. During hyperglycemia, AIx increased and Tr decreased. Hyperglycemia did not change peripheral PP but did magnify central aortic PP and diminished the normal physiological amplification of PP from the aorta to the periphery. Pulse wave reflection, as assessed from peripheral pulse wave analysis, is enhanced during acute hyperglycemia. Pretreatment with AA prevented the hyperglycemia-induced hemodynamic changes. By protecting hemodynamics during acute hyperglycemia, AA may have therapeutic use.  相似文献

The microvasculature of the eye of the duckling was studied with microcorrosion casting, scanning electron microscopy, and stereology. Most blood to the eyeball first passes through the arterial ophthalmic rete mirabile, a complex of small arteries which intermixes with a similar complex of veins (venous ophthalmic rete mirabile) at the ventrotemporal angle of the eye. The present study reveals the ultrastructural anatomy and the compact, three-dimensional arrangement of vessels in this rete, which had been shown by previous investigators to function as a countercurrent heat exchanger. Vessels from this rete include the supraorbital and infraorbital arteries, which supply the eyeball anteriorly, and the ophthalmotemporal artery, which supplies the eyeball posteriorly. The internal ophthalmic and ethmoidal arteries, branches of the cerebral carotid artery, anastomose with the ophthalmotemporal artery posteriorly. Blood is distributed to the eyeball anteriorly by two ring arteries: the iridial ring artery, which circumscribes the iris and which receives blood from the long ciliary and infraorbital arteries; and the more peripheral, ciliary ring artery, which receives blood mostly from the infraorbital and ethmoidal arteries. Within the iris is a dense, freely anastomosing bed of capillaries which extends to the edge of the pupil and then loops back beneath the ciliary body. The vasculature of the ciliary body consists of radially arranged plates of anastomosing capillaries of irregular bore which mimic the contours of that organ, but permit changes in pupil diameter. The present study demonstrates the three-dimensional anatomy of the very dense capillary net of the choriocapillaris deep to the retina and the capillary mass of the pecten, and thus supports the finding of earlier investigators that nutrients diffusing from these structures nourish the avascular retina. The pecten consists of a pleated sheet of freely anastomosing capillaries which protrudes into the vitreous body from near the optic nerve. The choriocapillaris and the pecten are supplied by branches of the ophthalmotemporal artery: the former by numerous short posterior ciliary arteries, the latter by two or three arteries which further divide into one or two smaller vessels for each of its folds. Veins of the choroid layer at the periphery of the anterior surface of the eyeball, and to some extent on its lateral walls, are revealed by the corrosion-casting technique as unusual, flattened vessels of large caliber which lie in closely spaced parallel arrays. To assess the effects of groups III and IV (thin-fiber) phrenic afferents on arterial pressure, heart rate, and distribution of cardiac output, we injected capsaicin into phrenic arteries of in situ isolated and innervated left diaphragms of dogs anesthetized with chloralose, vagotomized, and mechanically ventilated. Blood flow in the ascending aorta, common carotid, renal, superior mesenteric, and femoral arteries was measured by electromagnetic and Doppler flow probes. Injection of 1 mg capsaicin into the left phrenic artery produced congruent to 15% increase in mean arterial pressure and congruent to 7% increase in heart rate with no change in aortic flow. Phrenic arterial flow decreased by 64%, renal arterial flow by 16%, and superior mesenteric arterial flow by 10%, whereas carotid flow increased by 13% and flow to the right gastrocnemius muscle did not change. Mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and blood flow distribution (with the exception of the decline in phrenic blood flow) returned to baseline within 60 s of the injection. Injection of 1.5 mg capsaicin into the right isolated and innervated gastrocnemius produced congruent to 35% increase in mean arterial pressure, 17% rise in heart rate, and no change in aortic blood flow. Phrenic and carotid arterial flow rose by 240 and 41%, respectively, whereas renal and superior mesenteric flow declined by 50 and 20%, respectively. In conclusion, thin-fiber phrenic afferents have an excitatory effect on arterial pressure and heart rate. They redistribute blood flow away from the renal and intestinal vascular beds and toward the carotid vascular bed. On the other hand, the cardiovascular reflex from thin-fiber phrenic afferents seems less potent than that from limb muscle afferents.  相似文献

We developed a new model to examine the role of arterial baroreceptors in the long-term control of mean arterial pressure (MAP) in dogs. Baroreceptors in the aortic arch and one carotid sinus were denervated, and catheters were implanted in the descending aorta and common carotid arteries. MAP and carotid sinus pressure (CSP) averaged 104 +/- 2 and 102 +/- 2 mmHg (means +/- 1 SE), respectively, during a 5-day control period. Baroreceptor unloading was induced by ligation of the common carotid artery proximal to the innervated sinus (n = 6 dogs). MAP and CSP averaged 127 +/- 7 and 100 +/- 3 mmHg, respectively, during the 7-day period of baroreceptor unloading. MAP was significantly elevated (P < 0.01) compared to control, but CSP was unchanged. Heart rate and plasma renin activity increased significantly in response to baroreceptor unloading. Removal of the ligature to restore normal flow through the carotid resulted in normalization of all variables. Ligation of the carotid below a denervated sinus (n = 4) caused a significant decrease in CSP but no systemic hypertension. These results indicate that chronic unloading of carotid baroreceptors can produce neurogenic hypertension and provide strong evidence that arterial baroreceptors are involved in the long-term control of blood pressure.  相似文献

目的: 我们在中国尝试使用超快反应聚合物光纤氧感受器置入整体活体动物动脉血管,再通过光电转换测定系统以记录活体动物颈动脉PO2(PaO2)连续动态的快速变化,为完善整体整合生理学理论体系中循环参与呼吸调控和呼吸循环代谢一体化调控提供实验依据。方法: ①超快反应氧感受器制作、性能及其测定系统标定:在实验室加热总长2 m光纤的远端5 mm部分,拉动直到它成锥形尖端,清洁并干燥后,将1 mm锥形光纤尖端浸涂到发光体掺杂聚合物溶液中,在溶剂快速蒸发同时将其缓慢抽出来形成氧气感测尖端,室温干燥24 h。对完成制作的感受器进行性能标定,并于第37日重复标定。②动物实验:在潍坊医学院实验室对山羊全麻气管插管氧气机械通气下,切皮暴露双颈动脉和左侧股动脉,分别把超快反应氧传感器直接插入动脉中,通过光导纤维、激发与检测Y型光纤耦合器经光电转换连接到个人电脑,实现机械通气下活体山羊颈动脉PaO2的连续动态反应,主要分析PaO2的呼吸间波浪式交替升降和肺-颈动脉时间延迟。结果: 该置入式超快反应氧传感器在液相的响应时间为100 ms。活体山羊实验40%~60%氧气机械通气心率和血压稳定,左和右颈动脉PaO2随着呼吸机的吸气和呼气呈现波浪式上升和下降的呼吸交替现象,幅度高达15 mmHg;左侧股动脉位置记录的信息噪音显著干扰PaO2变化。肺-颈动脉时间延迟是在吸气和呼气开始后1.5~1.7 s左侧和右侧颈动脉PaO2都开始上升和下降;即肺通气开始后3次心跳,左心室可把肺毛细血管后动脉化的肺静脉血液送到外周化学感受器位置中断吸气切换为呼气和中断呼气切换为吸气,如此实现吸呼周而复始。结论: 活体动物置入动脉的超快反应氧传感器及其测定系统可测定PaO2生理性波浪式变化,能为整体整合生理学医学新理论体系中解释吸气和呼气相互切换的机制提供实验依据。  相似文献

These experiments were designed to determine if male New Zealand white rabbits made mildly hypertensive (20-30 mm Hg increase) with bilateral renal artery clips developed more or less sudanophilic lesions than controls, and if the animals responded differently if hypercholesterolemia was produced soon (one week) or late (eight weeks) after the animals were operated on. Both groups received the diet of 2% cholesterol and 6% corn oil for six weeks. We also studied the distensibility of the carotid artery to determine if altered elastic behaviour played a role in lesion development. The experiments showed that the acute hypertensive group developed most lesions (by area), but that the lesions in all groups had the same shape and location. The carotid arteries from the chronic hypertensives were least distensible, and most of the changes appeared to be in the elastance of collagen. The blood pressure actually dropped slightly in the chronic shams after the diet was started. These experiments suggest that, at least, in the rabbit, the duration of the hypertension may determine how the arterial wall responds to hypercholesterolemia. They show that mild hypertension, like hypercholesterolemia, alters the rate at which lesions develop, rather than altering their distribution. The changes do not appear to be related to altered distensibility.  相似文献
