ObjectiveTo characterize sensorimotor control and muscle activation in the shoulder of chronic hemiparetic during abduction and flexion in maximal and submaximal isometric contractions. Furthermore, to correlate submaximal sensorimotor control with motor impairment and degree of shoulder subluxation.MethodsThirteen chronic hemiparetic post-stroke age-gender matched with healthy were included. Isometric torques were assessed using a dynamometer. Electromyographic activity of the anterior and middle deltoid, upper trapezius, pectoralis major and serratus anterior muscles were collected. Variables were calculated for torque: peak, time to target, standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV), and standard error (RMSE); for muscle activity: maximum and minimum values, range and coefficient of activation. Motor impairment was determined by Fugl-Meyer and shoulder subluxation was measured with a caliper.ResultsParetic and non-paretic limbs reduced peak and muscle activation during maximal isometric contraction. Paretic limb generated lower force when compared with non-paretic and control. Paretic and non-paretic presented higher values of SD, CV, RMSE, and CV for prime mover muscles and minimum values for all muscles during steadiness. No correlation was found between sensorimotor control, motor impairment and shoulder subluxation.ConclusionChronic hemiparetic presented bilateral deficits in sensorimotor and muscle control during maximal and submaximal shoulder abduction and flexion.  相似文献

The influence of external factors such as arm posture, hand loading and dynamic exertion on shoulder muscle activity is needed to provide insight into the relationship between internal and external loading of the shoulder joint. Surface electromyography was collected from 8 upper extremity muscles on 16 participants who performed isometric and dynamic shoulder exertions in three shoulder planes (flexion, mid-abduction and abduction) covering four shoulder elevation angles (30°, 60°, 90° and 120°). Shoulder exertions were performed under three hand load conditions: no load, holding a 0.5 kg load and 30% grip. It was found that adding a 0.5 kg load to the hand increased shoulder muscle activity by 4% maximum voluntary excitation (MVE), across all postures and velocities. Performing a simultaneous shoulder exertion and hand grip led to posture specific redistribution of shoulder muscle activity that was consistent for both isometric and dynamic exertions. When gripping, anterior and middle deltoid activity decreased by 2% MVE, while posterior deltoid, infraspinatus and trapezius activity increased by 2% MVE and biceps brachii activity increased by 6% MVE. Increased biceps brachii activity with gripping may be an initiating factor for the changes in shoulder muscle activity. The finding that hand gripping altered muscle activation, and thus the internal loading, of the shoulder may play an important role in shoulder injury development and rehabilitation.  相似文献

Force enhancement is a well accepted property of skeletal muscle and has been observed at all structural levels ranging from single myofibrils to voluntarily activated m. quadriceps femoris in vivo. However, force enhancement has not been studied for multi-joint movements like human leg extension; therefore knowledge about its relevance in daily living remains limited. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is force enhancement during maximal voluntary multi-joint leg extension. Human leg extension was studied (n=22) on a motor driven leg press dynamometer where external reaction forces under the feet as well as activity of 8 lower extremity muscles were measured. In addition, torque in the ankle and knee joints was calculated using inverse dynamics. The steady-state isometric force, joint torques, and muscle activation after active stretch (20° stretch amplitude at 60°/s) were compared with the corresponding values obtained during isometric reference contractions. There was consistent force enhancement during and following stretch for both forces and joint torques. Potentiation during stretch reached values between 26% and 30%, while a significant force enhancement of 10.5–12.3% and 4.3–7.4% remained 0.5–1 and 2.5–3 s after stretch, respectively. During stretch, EMG signals of m. gastrocnemius medialis and lateralis were significantly increased, while following stretch all analyzed muscles showed the same activity as during the reference contractions. We conclude from these results that force enhancement exists in everyday movements and should be accounted for when analyzing or modelling human movement.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo analyze electromyographic (EMG) patterns and isokinetic muscle performance of shoulder abduction movement in individuals who sustained a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).DesignTwenty-two individuals who sustained a CVA and 22 healthy subjects volunteered for EMG activity and isokinetic shoulder abduction assessments. EMG onset time, root mean square (RMS) for upper trapezius and deltoid muscles, as well as the isokinetic variables of peak torque, total work, average power and acceleration time were compared between limbs and groups.ResultsThe paretic side showed a different onset activation pattern in shoulder abduction, along with a lower RMS for both muscles (21.8 ± 13.4% of the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) for the deltoid and 25.9 ± 15.3% MVIC for the upper trapezius, about 50% lower than the control group). The non-paretic side showed a delay in both muscles activation and a lower RMS for the deltoid (32.2 ± 13.7% MVIC, about 25% lower than the control group). Both sides of the group of individuals who sustained a CVA presented a significantly lower isokinetic performance compared to the control group (paretic side ~60% lower; non-paretic side ~35% lower).ConclusionsShoulder abduction muscle performance is impaired in both paretic and non-paretic limbs of individuals who sustained a CVA.  相似文献

During maximum effort, the supraspinatus muscle contributes approximately 50% of the torque need to elevate the arm, but this has not been examined at sub-maximal levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of the supraspinatus muscle to shoulder elevation at sub-maximal levels. Seven healthy subjects (four males, three females) performed isometric ramp contractions at the shoulder. Middle deltoid electromyography (EMG) and force applied at the wrist were collected before and after a suprascapular nerve block. For the same level of deltoid EMG, less external force will be measured after the nerve block as the supraspinatus muscle no longer contributes. The difference between the EMG/force curve was the contribution of the supraspinatus muscle. The supraspinatus contributed 40%, 95% CI [32%–48%], to shoulder elevation. The effect of angle (p = .67) and % maximal voluntary contraction (p = .13) on supraspinatus contribution were not significant. The maximum is slightly less than reported in a previous suprascapular nerve block study using maximal contractions. The results from this study can be used to assess supraspinatus contribution in rotator cuff tears, after rehabilitation interventions, and as a restraint in computation modelling.  相似文献

Muscle strength and volume vary greatly among individuals. Maximum isometric joint moment, a standard measurement of strength, has typically been assessed in young, healthy subjects, whereas muscle volumes have generally been measured in cadavers. This has made it difficult to characterize the relationship between isometric strength and muscle size in humans. We measured maximum isometric moments about the shoulder, elbow, and wrist in 10 young, healthy subjects, ranging in size from a 20th percentile female to a 97th percentile male. The volumes of 32 upper limb muscles were determined from magnetic resonance images of these same subjects, and grouped according to their primary function. The maximum moments produced using the shoulder adductors (67.9+/-28.4 Nm) were largest, and were approximately 6.5(+/-1.2) times greater than those produced using the wrist extensors (10.2+/-4.6 Nm), which were smallest. While there were substantial differences in moment-generating capacity among these 10 subjects, moment significantly covaried with muscle volume of the appropriate functional group, explaining between 95% (p<0.0001; shoulder adductors) and 68% (p=0.004; wrist flexors) of the variation in the maximum isometric joint moments among subjects. While other factors, such as muscle moment arms or neural activation and coordination, can contribute to variation in strength among subjects, they either were relatively constant across these subjects compared to large differences in muscle volumes or they covaried with muscle volume. We conclude that differences in strength among healthy young adults are primarily a consequence of variation in muscle volume, as opposed to other factors.  相似文献

This study aimed to: (1) test the repeatability of Supersonic Shear Imaging measures of muscle shear elastic modulus of four elbow flexor muscles during isometric elbow flexion with ramped torque; (2) determine the relationship between muscle shear elastic modulus and elbow torque for the four elbow flexor muscles, and (3) investigate changes in load sharing between synergist elbow flexor muscles with increases in elbow flexor torque. Ten subjects performed ten isometric elbow flexions consisting of linear torque ramps of 30-s from 0 to 40% of maximal voluntary contraction. The shear elastic modulus of each elbow flexor muscle (biceps brachii long head [BB(LH)], biceps brachii short head [BB(SH)], brachialis [BA], and brachoradialis [BR]) and of triceps brachii long head [TB] was measured twice with individual muscles recorded in separate trials in random order. A good repeatability of the shape of the changes in shear elastic modulus as a function of torque was found for each elbow flexor muscle (r-values: 0.85 to 0.94). Relationships between the shear elastic modulus and torque were best explained by a second order polynomial, except BA where a higher polynomial was required. Statistical analysis showed that BB(SH) and BB(LH) had an initial slow change at low torques followed by an increasing rate of increase in modulus with higher torques. In contrast, the BA shear elastic modulus increased rapidly at low forces, but plateaued at higher forces. These results suggest that changes in load sharing between synergist elbow flexors could partly explain the non-linear EMG-torque relationship classically reported for BB during isometric efforts.  相似文献

Study of the mechanics of trunk twisting is special interest given epidemiological evidence linking occupational twisting to increased incidence of low back pain. An anatomically detailed, three-dimensional model of the trunk (rib cage, pelvis, five lumbar vertebrae and 50 muscles), was used to predict maximum axial trunk torque. Predicted axial torques were compared with measured torques. Thirty-one (10 male and 21 female) subjects performed maximum effort isometric twisting exertions, at 0° of twist and ±30° of twist together with dynamic exertions, at 30° s−1 and 60° s−1. Females were able to generate approximately two-thirds of the torque of males (males, 97 Nm; females 60 Nm, isometric at 0°). When the trunk was prerotated to 30°, subjects were able to generate greater torque when the effort was toward the 0° position (approximately 105 Nm by males and 68 Nm by females). Experimental data indicated that velocity of rotation and amount of twist are important modulators of axial torque. Changes in muscle length were demonstrated to be minimal from model output as most muscle length changes during a twist from 0° to 30°, measured between the pelvis and the shoulder harness, were less than 1%, although some portions of the abdominal obliques underwent a length excursion of 5%. The small changes in the individual muscle force components that contribute to twist, i.e. the muscle unit vector about the axial twist axis and its moment arm that change as a function of twisted position, do not entirely account for the measured differences in torque, suggesting that additional mechanisms influence axial torque generation.  相似文献

The goal of this study is to compare the dynamics of aerobic and force–velocity characteristics of the shoulder girdle muscles and leg muscles during high-volume aerobic training in junior cross-country skiers in the time interval from the end of the preparatory period to the beginning of the competition period. Eleven junior cross-country skiers were repeatedly tested from December to February. In this period, the volume of aerobic training was 22–23 h per week. During the experimental period, the knee extensors torque in the range of angular velocities of 30–300 degrees/s was observed to decrease, with no changes in the volume of the quadriceps muscle of thigh and knee flexor muscles. The maximal oxygen consumption rate (VO2 max) was observed to decrease by 6% (P < 0.05) in the treadmill test, while the oxygen consumption at anaerobic threshold (VO2 at La = 4 mmol/L) was unchanged. On the contrary, the functional capacity of the shoulder girdle muscles was enhanced. The force-velocity characteristics of the shoulder girdle muscles that were estimated in the maximal anaerobic power test at a double poling ergometer increased by 16% (P < 0.01), and the volume of the triceps muscle of arm increased by 4.6 (P < 0.01). The aerobic capacity of the shoulder girdle muscles that were estimated by the VO2 at La = 4 mmol/L increased by 30% (P < 0.05). The potential for increasing the performance of junior cross-country skiers seems to be associated with the increased functional capacity of the shoulder girdle muscles.  相似文献

The sternocostal and clavicular regions of the pectoralis major are independently harvested to provide shoulder stability, but surgical decision making does not consider the biomechanical consequences that disinsertion of one fiber region over the other has on shoulder function. Differences in material properties between the fiber regions could influence which tissue is more optimal for surgical harvesting. The current study utilized ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) to investigate whether the in vivo material properties differ between the fiber regions. Shear wave velocities (SWVs) were collected from the sternocostal and clavicular fiber regions of the pectoralis major from ten healthy young male participants. Participants produced isometric shoulder torques of varying magnitudes (passive, 15%, and 30% MVC) and directions (horizontal and vertical adduction). Four shoulder positions encompassing different vertical abduction and external rotation angles were examined. One-way ANOVAs tested the hypotheses that differences in SWVs during rest existed between the fiber regions as a function of shoulder position, and differences in SWVs during contraction existed as a function of shoulder position and torque direction. In all shoulder positions, the clavicular region exhibited greater SWVs during rest than the sternocostal region (P < 0.001). In shoulder positions that did not include external rotation, the clavicular region exhibited greater SWVs during contraction when producing horizontal adduction torques (P < 0.001), while the sternocostal region exhibited greater SWVs during contraction when producing vertical adduction torques at 30% MVC (P < 0.01). Our results suggest that each fiber region of the pectoralis major provides unique contributions to passive and active shoulder function.  相似文献

The aim of this investigation was to anatomically identify, and then determine the function of, individual segments within the human deltoid muscle. The anatomical structure of the deltoid was determined through dissection and/or observation of the shoulder girdles of 11 male cadavers (aged 65–84 years). These results indicate that the deltoid consists of seven anatomical segments (D1–D7) based upon the distinctive arrangement of each segment's origin and insertion. Radiographic analysis of a cadaveric shoulder joint suggested that only the postero-medial segment D7 has a line of action directed below the shoulder joint's axis of rotation. The functional role of each individual segment was then determined utilising an electromyographic (EMG) technique. Seven miniature (1 mm active plate; 7 mm interelectrode distance) bipolar surface electrodes were positioned over the proximal portion of each segment's muscle belly in 18 male and female subjects (18–30 years). EMG waveforms were then recorded during the production of rapid isometric shoulder abduction and adduction force impulses with the shoulder joint in 40 degrees of abduction in the plane of the scapula. Each subject randomly performed 15 abduction and 15 adduction isometric force impulses following a short familiarisation period. All subjects received visual feed back on the duration and amplitude of each isometric force impulse produced via a visual force-time display which compared subject performance to a criterion force-time curve. Movement time was 400 ms (time-to-peak isometric force) at an intensity level of 50% maximal voluntary contraction. Temporal and intensity analyses of the EMG waveforms, as well as temporal analysis of the isometric force impulses, revealed the neuromotor control strategies utilised by the CNS to control the activity of each muscle segment. The results showed that segmental neuromotor control strategies differ across the breadth of the muscle and that individual segments of the deltoid can be identified as having either “prime mover”, “synergist”, “stabiliser” or “antagonist” functions; functional classifications normally associated with whole muscle function. Therefore, it was concluded that the CNS can “fine tune” the activity of at least six discrete segments within the human deltoid muscle to efficiently meet the demands of the imposed motor task. It is well known that muscular force production is history-dependent, which results in enhanced (RFE) and depressed (RFD) steady-state forces after stretching and shortening, respectively. However, it remains unclear if force-enhancing mechanisms can contribute to increased performance during in vivo stretch-shortening cycles (SSCs) of human locomotor muscles. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether RFE-related mechanisms contribute to enhanced force and power output during SSCs of the human plantar flexor muscles. Net ankle torques of fourteen participants were measured during and after pure isometric, pure stretch, pure shortening, and SSC contractions when the triceps surae muscles were electrically stimulated at a submaximal level that resulted in 30% of their maximum isometric torque. Dynamic contractions were performed over an amplitude of 15°, from 5° plantar flexion to 10° dorsiflexion, at a speed of 120° s−1. External ankle work during shortening was 11.6% greater during SSCs compared to pure shortening contractions (p = .003). Additionally, RFD after SSCs (8.6%) was reduced compared to RFD after pure shortening contractions (12.0%; p < .05). It is therefore concluded that RFE-related mechanisms contribute to increased performance following SSCs of human locomotor muscles. Since RFD after SSCs decreased although work during shortening was increased, we speculate that the relevant mechanism lies outside actin-myosin interaction. Finally, our data suggests that RFE might be relevant and beneficial for human locomotion whenever a muscle is stretched, but this needs to be confirmed.  相似文献

In this paper, we have developed a novel and simple method to quantify the ability to selectively activate our muscles in an effective pattern to achieve a particular task. In the context of this study, we define an effective pattern as that in which muscles whose mechanical contribution to the task is greatest, are mostly active, while the antagonist muscles are mostly silent. This new method uses biomechanical parameters to project the multi-channel EMGs into a three-dimensional artificial torque space, where the EMGs are represented as muscle activation vectors. Using the muscle activation vectors we defined a simple scalar, the muscle selection index, to quantify muscle selectivity. We demonstrate that by using this index we are able to quantify the muscle selectivity during the generation of isometric shoulder or elbow torques in brain-injured and able-bodied subjects. This method can be used during both static and dynamic motor tasks in a multi-articular musculoskeletal system.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the validity and test–retest reliability of trunk muscle strength testing performed with a latest-generation isokinetic dynamometer. Eccentric, isometric, and concentric peak torque of the trunk flexor and extensor muscles was measured in 15 healthy subjects. Muscle cross sectional area (CSA) and surface electromyographic (EMG) activity were respectively correlated to peak torque and submaximal isometric torque for erector spinae and rectus abdominis muscles. Reliability of peak torque measurements was determined during test and retest sessions. Significant correlations were consistently observed between muscle CSA and peak torque for all contraction types (r = 0.74−0.85; P < 0.001) and between EMG activity and submaximal isometric torque (r  0.99; P < 0.05), for both extensor and flexor muscles. Intraclass correlation coefficients were comprised between 0.87 and 0.95, and standard errors of measurement were lower than 9% for all contraction modes. The mean difference in peak torque between test and retest ranged from −3.7% to 3.7% with no significant mean directional bias. Overall, our findings establish the validity of torque measurements using the tested trunk module. Also considering the excellent test–retest reliability of peak torque measurements, we conclude that this latest-generation isokinetic dynamometer could be used with confidence to evaluate trunk muscle function for clinical or athletic purposes.  相似文献

This study determines whether changes in the EMG values of two important muscles of the shoulder and neck region, the anterior deltoid and the upper trapezius, are due to changes in torque production or due to fatigue processes during sustained activity. Contractions at 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% MVC were performed during a flexion of the arm in the sagittal plane at 90 degrees, to examine the relation between torque and EMG. A sustained contraction at 20% MVC was performed to endurance point in the same position. RMS, a new parameter called activity, (ACT), and MPF of the deltoid anterior and the upper trapezius were analysed. The amplitude values correlated highly with increasing torque production, both for the deltoid muscle (range r = 0.95-0.96), and the trapezius muscle (range r = 0.83-0.87), whereas no significant difference was found for MPF. For the endurance task, the decrease in MPF was far more pronounced for the deltoid than for the trapezius, whereas the opposite occurred with RMS (P < or = 0.01). Furthermore, there was no significant difference over time for the ACT values of the deltoid, whereas there were significant increases in ACT for the trapezius (P < or = 0.01). The RMS/ACT ratio correlated highly (r = 0.81) with the MPF. Regression coefficients of these parameters differed significantly for the trapezius muscle but not for the deltoid muscle. Therefore, the RMS/ACT ratio may be extremely important in analysing the fatigue effects during sustained efforts, independent of torque variations, which can influence indicators of fatigue.  相似文献

Muscle force-generating properties are often derived from cadaveric studies of muscle architecture. While the relative sizes of muscles at a single upper limb joint have been established in cadaveric specimens, the relative sizes of muscles across upper limb joints in living subjects remain unclear. We used magnetic resonance imaging to measure the volumes of the 32 upper limb muscles crossing the glenohumeral joint, elbow, forearm, and wrist in 10 young, healthy subjects, ranging from a 20th percentile female to a 97th percentile male, based on height. We measured the volume and volume fraction of these muscles. Muscles crossing the shoulder, elbow, and wrist comprised 52.5, 31.4, and 16.0% of the total muscle volume, respectively. The deltoid had the largest volume fraction (15.2%+/-1%) and the extensor indicis propius had the smallest (0.2%+/-0.05%). We determined that the distribution of muscle volume in the upper limb is highly conserved across these subjects with a three-fold variation in total muscle volumes (1427-4426cm(3)). When we predicted the volume of an individual muscle from the mean volume fraction, on average 85% of the variation among subjects was accounted for (average p=0.0008). This study provides normative data that forms the basis for investigating muscle volumes in other populations, and for scaling computer models to more accurately represent the muscle volume of a specific individual.  相似文献

IntroductionIn this study, we tested two assumptions that have been made in experimental studies on muscle mechanics: (i) that the torque-angle properties are similar among agonistic muscles crossing a joint, and (ii) that the sum of the torque capacity of individual muscles adds up to the torque capacity of the agonist group.MethodsMaximum isometric torque measurements were made using a specifically designed animal knee extension dynamometer for the intact rabbit quadriceps muscles (n = 10) for knee angles between 60 and 120°. The nerve branches of the vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM) and rectus femoris (RF) muscles were carefully dissected, and a custom made nerve cuff electrode was implanted on each branch. Knee extensor torques were measured for four maximal activation conditions at each knee angle: VL activation, VM activation, RF activation, and activation of all three muscles together.ResultsWith the exception of VL, the torque-angle relationships of the individual muscles did not have the shape of the torque-angle relationship obtained when all muscles were activated simultaneously. Furthermore, the maximum torque capacity obtained by adding the individual torque capacities of VL, VM and RF was approximately 20% higher than the torques produced when the three muscles were activated simultaneously.DiscussionThese results bring into question our understanding of in-vivo muscle contraction and challenge assumptions that are sometimes made in human and animal muscle force analyses.  相似文献

A recorded muscular torque at one joint is a resultant torque corresponding to the participation of both agonist and antagonist muscles. This study aimed to examine the effect of aging on the mechanical contributions of both plantar- and dorsi-flexors to the resultant maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) torques exerted at the ankle joint, in dorsi-flexion (DF) and plantar-flexion (PF). The estimation of isometric agonist and antagonist torques by means of an EMG biofeedback technique was made with nine young (mean age 24 years) and nine older (mean age 80 years) men. While there was a non-significant age-related decline in the measured resultant DF MVC torque (?15%; p = 0.06), there was a clear decrease in the estimated agonist MVC torque exerted by the dorsi-flexors (?39%; p = 0.001). The DF-to-PF resultant MVC torque ratio was significantly lower in young than in older men (0.25 vs. 0.31; p = 0.006), whereas the DF-to-PF agonist MVC torque ratio was no longer different between the two populations (0.38 vs. 0.35; p > 0.05). Thus, agonist MVC torques in PF and DF would be similarly affected by aging, which could not be deduced when only resultant torques were examined.  相似文献

Tree sloths have reduced skeletal muscle mass, and yet they are able to perform suspensory behaviors that require both strength and fatigue resistance to suspend their body mass for extended periods of time. The muscle architecture of sloths is hypothesized to be modified in ways that will enhance force production to compensate for this reduction in limb muscle mass. Our objective is to test this hypothesis by quantifying architecture properties in the forelimb musculature of the brown-throated three-toed sloth (Bradypus variegatus: N = 4). We evaluated architecture from 52 forelimb muscles by measuring muscle moment arm (r m), muscle mass (MM), belly length (ML), fascicle length (LF), pennation angle (θ), and physiological cross-sectional area (PCSA), and these metrics were used to estimate isometric force, joint torque, and power. Overall, the musculature becomes progressively more pennate from the extrinsic to intrinsic regions of the forelimb, and the flexors are more well developed than the extensors as predicted. However, most muscles are indicative of a mechanical design for fast joint rotational velocity instead of large joint torque (i.e., strength), although certain large, parallel-fibered shoulder (e.g., m. latissimus dorsi) and elbow (e.g., m. brachioradialis) flexors are capable of producing appreciable torques by having elongated moment arms. This type of functional tradeoff between joint rotational velocity and mechanical advantage is further exemplified by muscle gearing in Bradypus that pairs synergistic muscles with opposing LF/r m ratios in each functional group. These properties are suggested to facilitate the slow, controlled movements in sloths. In addition, the carpal/digital flexors have variable architectural properties, but their collective PCSA and joint torque indicates the capability for maintaining grip force and carpal stability while distributing load from the manus to the shoulder. The observed specializations provide a basis for understanding sustained suspension in sloths.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to develop a noninvasive method to measure the joint torques produced by biarticular muscles at two joints simultaneously. During intramuscular stimulation of the cat medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle, torques at the ankle and knee joints were calculated from forces measured in two dimensions at the end point of the cat paw under isometric conditions. The method was verified by the known anatomical properties of cat MG muscle and the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle. The MG muscle was shown to produce a significant flexion torque at the knee, besides an extension torque at the ankle. This was in agreement with its anatomical arrangement. The TA muscle produced primarily an ankle flexion torque. The small knee torque, due to measurement errors, yielded an estimate of measurement accuracy of 3.0 +/- 2.1% (n = 52). The coupling ratio of the MG muscle, defined as T(ankle)/T(knee), varied significantly with both knee and ankle angles. The profile of MG mechanical coupling agreed qualitatively with changes in limb configuration. The method can be used to measure recruitment properties of electrically stimulated biarticular muscles, and may potentially be used to study the biomechanics of biarticular coupling.  相似文献
