An ovitrap (BR-OVT) based on physical and chemical stimuli for attracting gravid Culex quinquefasciatus (Diptera: Culicidae) females was developed and evaluated under laboratory and field conditions. Attractants were assayed using alternative chamber bioassays prior to being used in the BR-OVT oviposition trap. A significant preference of gravid females for sites containing conspecific egg rafts was observed, as a response to the natural oviposition pheromone, as well as for sites treated with the synthetic pheromone erythro-6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide. Five- to 20-day old grass infusion was strongly attractive to gravid females for laying eggs. On the other hand, entomopathogenic Bacillus sphaericus (Bs) did not influence the choice of an oviposition site when used in combination with grass infusion and can therefore be used as a larvicide in ovitraps. Results from field trials showed that the BR-OVT with grass infusion and with or without Bs works as a preferred oviposition site for Cx. quinquefasciatus. The BR-OVT was more effective for egg collection when placed indoors and comparison with the number of egg rafts laid in cesspits over 40 days indicates that this very simple ovitrap may be a useful tool for monitoring populations of the most important of the vectors of bancroftian filariasis.  相似文献

Abstract. Six protein or protein hydrolysate solutions were tested for activity as attractants for ovipositing Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes in the laboratory. Four of these solutions (egg albumin, lactalbumin hydrolysate, casein hydrolysate and yeast hydrolysate) were attractive to ovipositing females at varying concentrations, when compared to distilled water controls. Soy hydrolysate was repellent at 1%, but not significantly attractive or repellent at lower concentrations. 'Nulure', a tephritid fly bait containing protein hydrolysate, also had no significant effect on oviposition behaviour. Gravid females mostly oviposited within the first 4 h of the scotophase, regardless of the presence or absence of an oviposition attractant.
Lactalbumin hydrolysate 1% solution, with or without 0.1% neomycin antibiotic, was attractive to Cx quinquefasciatus . This effect was reduced by the presence of neomycin which, alone, had no effect on oviposition. Hence both lactalbumin hydrolysate and bacterial contaminants were shown to be attractive to gravid Cx quinquefasciatus .  相似文献

Neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) products have been shown to exert pesticidal properties against a variety of insect species. In mosquito control programs, such products may have the potential to be used successfully as larvicides. In exploring other advantages of neem products, we studied the oviposition responses of Culex tarsalis Coquillett and Cx. quinquefasciatus Say to two experimental azadirachtin (AZ) formulations, wettable powder Azad WP10 (WP) and emulsifiable concentrate Azad EC4.5 (EC). Gravid Cx. tarsalis exhibited a distinct preference for the neem suspension of the WP, where significantly more egg rafts were collected from the treatment than from the control. The minimum effective AZ concentration for this activity was 0.5 ppm. The aged suspensions from 1–7 days at 0.5 and 1 ppm AZ were more active in eliciting oviposition responses in Cx. tarsalis than the fresh preparations. This activity of the aged suspensions lasted up to 14 and 21 days at 0.5 and 1 ppm AZ, respectively. Negative ovipositional responses were indicated in the tests of the EC vs. Cx. tarsalis, as well as both neem formulations vs. Cx. quinquefasciatus. In the tests of the EC formulation, significantly less gravid females were trapped by oviposition cups in the treatment than in the control, and in the tests of the WP significantly less egg rafts were collected from the treatment than from the control. The minimum effective concentrations for oviposition avoidance activity were 5 ppm AZ for Cx. tarsalis and 10 ppm AZ for Cx. quinquefasciatus, which lasted up to 1 and 4 days for these two species respectively. Neem products potentially used as mosquito larvicides may have many additional benefits in mosquito control programs, the oviposition modification noted in the current studies is one such example.  相似文献

Two microbial mosquito larvicides, Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. israelensis (Bti) and Bacillus sphaericus (Bsph), have been shown to be highly effective in controlling mosquito larvae and have been used in larvicidal programs for many years. In exploring other modes of action of these agents, we studied the ovipositional response of Bsph susceptible and resistant Culex quinquefasciatus to aqueous suspensions of Bti and Bsph water dispersible granules (WDG). We quantified the level of mortality of adult mosquitoes caused by exposure to Bti and Bsph suspensions during oviposition. Significantly lower numbers of egg rafts were laid and collected from the treatments than the control regimen. There was an inverse relationship between Bacillus product concentrations and oviposition. As the concentration of Bti or Bsph increased from 0.0 to 2.0 mg/L, treated waters received progressively fewer egg rafts. In addition to the negative effects of Bacillus on oviposition, both male and female adult mosquitoes suffered high mortality on landing and imbibing on Bti and Bsph suspensions, the extent of mortality directly proportional to concentration. These two microbial agents used solely as mosquito larvicides thus have the additional benefits of reducing mosquito oviposition and killing adult mosquitoes, especially gravid females that come in contact with the treated water either for oviposition or drinking. Reducing the number of gravid females may also result in reduced transmission rates of pathogens. The combined effects of reduced oviposition and adult mortality could result in higher control potential of these microbial agents.  相似文献

Abstract.  Three mosquito species, Culex tarsalis Coquillett, Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae), were examined in laboratory binary choice experiments to investigate whether fish exudates from the mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis (Baird & Girard) (Cyprinodontiformes: Poecilliidae), deter oviposition and whether the responses of these mosquito species to fish exudates in oviposition sites are consistent with the risk of predation from fish experienced by each species in their respective natural breeding habitats. Culex tarsalis was deterred significantly from egg laying by the presence of fish exudates in oviposition cups, consistent with high levels of predation by fish in natural breeding sites. Egg laying by Cx quinquefasciatus was slightly reduced in water with fish exudates, but was not consistently deterred by water conditioned by mosquitofish, consistent with the species' relatively low risk of fish predation in natural habitats. Oviposition by container-breeding Ae. aegypti was not deterred by the presence of fish exudates in oviposition cups, consistent with a low risk of predation by fish in natural habitats.  相似文献

The influence of predators on mosquito populations may be direct through predation or indirect through sub‐lethal responses of adult mosquitoes in life history traits such as oviposition behavior. In New Zealand, the backswimmer, Anisops wakefieldi, is a common predator of mosquito larvae found in temporary and permanent water bodies. We predicted that the New Zealand native mosquito, Culex pervigilans, whose larvae are vulnerable to predation of Anisops, would likely avoid the containers with the presence of Anisops or its kairomone. We established temporary water containers without predators, free‐roaming predators, caged predators (which were unable to eat mosquitoes), or containers from which predators were removed immediately prior to the experiment (these containers would have remnant kairomones from the predators). Each treatment with Anisops had predator densities of one, three, or nine Anisops. Contrary to our predictions, when choosing oviposition habitats, Cx. pervigilans appeared to ignore the presence of free‐roaming Anisops, caged Anisops, and water with Anisops kairomone. We thus observed no significant differences between the numbers of egg rafts laid by Cx. pervigilans in the different predator treatments nor were the number of egg rafts significantly affected by the density of predators. Rather than the presence of predators, environmental factors including temperature, humidity, and pressure were significantly correlated with mosquito oviposition. These mosquitoes appeared to either ignore the presence of the predator, had no ability to detect the presence of predators, or perhaps the cues from Anisops predators were not sufficiently strong enough to alarm these mosquitoes. We argue that the mosquito has not evolved the ability to detect the presence of these predators while ovipositing.  相似文献

The cosmotropical urban mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae) uses chemical cues to locate suitable water pools for oviposition. Although gravid females are innately attracted to or repelled by certain compounds, this study found that an individual mosquito's preferences for these odours could be altered greatly by prior experience. Mosquitoes reared in water containing skatole, at a level normally repellent to ovipositing females, preferred to oviposit in water containing that compound rather than in water with an otherwise attractive odour compound (P-cresol). This behaviour occurred regardless of whether mosquitoes were tested individually or in groups of up to 50 per cage. The F1 progeny of conditioned mosquitoes did not exhibit the parental preference, but were as susceptible to conditioning as their parents. Moreover, rearing mosquitoes in infusions of hay or animal (guinea-pig) faeces produced a similar although less dramatic change, such that the innate propensity for hay infusion could be cancelled by rearing in guinea-pig faeces infusion. The results demonstrated a change in odour preference by Cx. quinquefasciatus following exposure to the odour during development or pupal eclosion, suggesting that some form of larval conditioning or early adult imprinting occurred. Precisely when that conditioning occurred remains to be determined.  相似文献

The use of attractants and larvicides in oviposition traps is of practical interest for the surveillance and control of urban mosquitoes. In addition to increasing the safety of the traps, this combination is essential for an attract-and-kill control strategy based on trapping mosquito eggs. The combination of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) and grass infusion (GI) vs. GI alone were tested for their ability to attract in paired BR-OVT traps in the backyards of 10 houses in Recife, Brazil, for a period of 45 days. Results show that females prefer to oviposit in traps containing Bti (363 compared with 251 egg rafts over 45 days). Results from a one-year trial on the efficacy of BR-OVT traps loaded with GI and Bti as a sampling tool to monitor temporal fluctuations in the population densities of Culex quinquefasciatus in an urban environment are also reported. From December 2006-January 2007, one trap per home was installed and maintained for 348 consecutive days in 134-151 houses located in three urban blocks. Throughout the one-year field trial a total of 43,151 Culex egg rafts were collected in the traps. The data show that BR-OVT loaded with GI and Bti is sensitive enough to demonstrate continuous reproductive activity of Cux. quinquefasciatus in the study area throughout the year and to monitor temporal fluctuations in population density.  相似文献

Oviposition of three strains of Drosophila melanogaster in the presence of deltamethrin was observed. These strains had different levels of physiological susceptibility to deltamethrin. Two-choice tests were conducted with couples of flies in petri-dish arenas containing two oviposition dishes. On the first day of the experiment, females were given a choice between a treated oviposition dish and an untreated control dish. On the second day of the experiment, two control oviposition dishes were given to females. Although individual females showed a tendency to aggregate their eggs in one of the dishes, control experiments demonstrated an overall equal distribution of eggs between the dishes. When one of the two oviposition dishes in the arena was treated with deltamethrin, the percentage of females ovipositing and the mean number of eggs laid by females were reduced, compared with control arenas. Females avoided the treated oviposition dish and laid significantly more eggs on the control dish. Furthermore, when the deltamethrin concentration was increased on the first day, female flies postponed their oviposition and laid significantly more eggs on the second day. The resistant strain, SR, demonstrated the same capacity to select the untreated site for oviposition as the susceptible strain, but it showed a smaller oviposition reduction and egg retention. The relationship between physiological and behavioural susceptibility to deltamethrin is discussed.  相似文献

The larval susceptibility to Bacillus sphaericus strain 2362 of the non-man-biting mosquito Culex cinereus and the urban filariasis vector Culex quinquefasciatus, two competitor mosquitoes in polluted habitats, was compared. In the laboratory, both species ingested a similar amount of B. sphaericus spores when fed c. 2 x 10(5) spores per ml for 30 min. However, in the same experiment, third-instar larvae of Cx quinquefasciatus were reduced by 98% at 24 h exposure while Cx cinereus larvae were only reduced by 6% at 72 h. In the field, preimaginal populations of Cx cinereus ingested, within a week, more than 99% of the applied spores, but showed no significant decrease through 14 days in cesspools treated at 10 g/m2 of a flowable concentrate of B. sphaericus 2362, containing 2 x 10(10) spores/g. It is proposed that specific biological control of Cx quinquefasciatus could result from appropriate treatment of breeding-sites with larvicidal B. sphaericus and competitive displacement by Cx cinereus or other mosquitoes with larvae that are more tolerant of B. sphaericus.  相似文献

We tested the oviposition response of Culex mosquitoes to the predator Notonecta irrorata in an outdoor artificial pool experiment employing equal numbers of control and predator pools. There was a strong oviposition avoidance by Culex of Notonecta pools; 83% of egg rafts were found in control pools during the period in which Notonecta were present. After removing Notonecta, mosquitoes continued to avoid ovipositing in the former Notonecta pools for two additional days suggesting a predator-released kairomone as the cue used by the mosquitoes to detect the presence of this predator.  相似文献

Studies were conducted between May and June, 2006 to investigate the environmental factors affecting the distribution of An. arabiensis Patton and Culex quinquefasciatus Say in Mwea, Kenya. The sampling unit comprised all non-paddy aquatic habitats and ten randomly selected paddies and canals located within a 200 m radius from the periphery of the study site. Thirteen physico-chemical variables were recorded for each sampling site in each sampling occasion and a sample of mosquito larvae and other aquatic invertebrates collected. The non-paddy aquatic habitats identified included pools and marshes. Morphological identification of 1,974 mosquito larvae yielded four species dominated by Cx. quinquefasciatus (73.2%) and An. arabiensis (25.0%). Pools were associated with significantly higher Cx. quinquefasciatus larval abundance and less diversity of other aquatic invertebrates compared with other habitat types. In contrast, the abundance of An. arabiensis did not differ significantly among habitat types. Culex quinquefasciatus habitats had higher water conductivity and exhibited a higher abundance of other aquatic invertebrates than An. arabiensis habitats. Chi-square analysis indicated that the two species were more likely to coexist in the same habitats than would be expected by chance alone. Anopheles arabiensis larvae were positively associated with dissolved oxygen and adults of family Haliplidae and negatively associated with emergent vegetation and Heptageniidae larvae. Culex quinquefasciatus larvae were positively associated with dissolved oxygen, total dissolved solids, Chironomidae larvae, and Microvelidae adults and negatively associated with emergent vegetation. These findings suggest that both biotic and abiotic factors play a significant role in niche partitioning among Cx. quinquefasciatus and An. arabiensis, a factor that should be considered when designing an integrated vector control program.  相似文献

Assessment of patch quality by ladybirds: role of larval tracks   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
Gravid females of the two-spot ladybird, Adalia bipunctata (L.), were deterred from ovipositing when kept in petri dishes that had previously contained conspecific larvae but not conspecific adults, or the larvae of another two species of ladybird, Adalia decempunctata (L.) and Coccinella septempunctata L. The deterrent effect was density dependent and mediated via a chloroform-soluble contact pheromone present in the larval tracks. Similarly, gravid females of C. septempunctata were deterred from ovipositing by conspecific larval tracks and chloroform extracts of these tracks, but not by the tracks or extracts of tracks of A. bipunctata larvae. That is, in ladybirds the larvae produce a species-specific oviposition-deterring pheromone. In the field, the incidence of egg cannibalism in ladybirds increases very rapidly with the density of conspecific eggs or larvae per unit area. Thus, in responding to the species specific oviposition deterring pheromone female ladybirds reduce the risk of their eggs being eaten and spread their offspring more equally between patches. The magnitude of oviposition as well as the size, shape and the number of eggs per of egg rafts egg raft were determined after gravid Culex quinquefasciatus Say oviposited on water treated with water dispersible granules (WDG) of Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. israelensis (Bti) and on untreated water. The mean number of eggs/raft was lower in the treated than in the untreated water. Bti concentrations from 0.5 to 2.0mg/L affected the shape of egg rafts and number of eggs in each raft. As the concentration of Bti increased from 0.5 to 2.0 mg/L the shape of egg rafts became more irregular with fewer eggs in each raft. Exposure to Bti at 2- and 26-h reduced the hatching rates, and fewer eggs hatched at 26-h of exposure to Bti. As the concentration of Bti WDG increased from 0.5 to 2.0 mg/L, the hatching rate decreased. Eggs exposed for 2-h to 2.0mg/ L Bti had a hatch of 30% after 24 h, the rate increasing to 57% after 72 h. In contrast, in 26-h exposed eggs to 2.0 mg/L Bti, the hatching rate after 24 h was only 12% and this rate increased to 39% after 72 h. In larvae from eggs exposed for 2 h, the survival rate was 40% at 2.0 mg/L Bti and 87% in untreated controls. In contrast, the survival rates of larvae from 26-h exposed eggs was 91% in controls while it was 30% at 2.0 mg/L Bti. As the concentration of Bti increased from 0.5 to 2.0 mg/ 1 the survival rates of larvae decreased. The combined effects of reductions of egg rafts, low number of eggs per egg raft, and reduced hatching and survival rates could have significant cumulative effects on the yield of adult mosquitoes, and this could result in a greater control potential of this microbial agent.  相似文献

The effect of urea on the oviposition behaviour of culicine vectors of Japanese encephalitis was studied in rice fields. Gravid females had a strong preference for oviposition in urea treated areas in rice fields, while no such preference was exhibited in untreated areas. The egg laying declined in the area where urea treated water surface had a mechanical barrier, which allowed volatile fractions to escape, but prevented contact with the water. Urea was shown to act as an oviposition attractant/stimulant for Culex tritaeniorhynchus, but its role was not clear for Cx. vishnui, as the number of egg rafts obtained for the latter species was low.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Formation of the rosette-like egg mass of the neotropical mosquito Mansonia titillans Walker is described from video recordings of thirteen females ovipositing on the undersurfaces of water lettuce ( Pistia stratiotes ) leaves in the laboratory. The female abdomen executes symmetrical stroking behaviour to the right and left of centre line. Outstrokes consist solely of scratching, in which spines on the eighth tergite abrade the leaf surface preparatory to oviposition. A row of eggs is glued to the leaf only on instrokes, which are of longer duration than outstrokes, and may be interrupted by scratches and pauses. Scratching precedes oviposition of each of the first four eggs, which are laid without stroking behaviour. The egg mass is enveloped in an air bubble which is transported underwater on the hydrofuge female abdomen. The deposition of eggs on instrokes is homologous to the behaviour used by Culex and Culiseta mosquitoes in the construction of free-floating egg rafts.  相似文献

Abstract. In Sri Lanka the national Anti-Filaria Campaign (AFC) has routinely employed fenthion since 1974 for larvicidal control of Culex quinquefasciatus , the vector of Bancroftian filariasis in urban areas, where this mosquito breeds prolifically in polluted waters. During 1994 the efficacy of AFC fenthion treatment against organophosphate-resistant Cx quinquefasciatus was investigated at Dehiwela, near Colombo.
The AFC target rate of fenthion application was 1 mg a.i./l, but the actual concentrations of fenthion in freshly treated pits ranged from 0.64 to 63.2 mg a.i./l. There was significant suppression of larval densities in treated soakage pits, the predominant breeding site of Cx quinquefasciatus , although the mosquito population was 6-fold resistant to fenthion at the LCW level. Production of pupae was almost completely prevented in soakage pits which were sprayed weekly with fenthion, indicating that adult mosquito emergence from this source was minimal. The rapid decline in concentration of fenthion detected in the water of soakage pits indicated that a weekly treatment schedule is essential for effective control. With the rapid recolonization of treated sites, the weekly schedule must be strictly implemented in order to achieve control of resistant larvae. Fenthion activity levels detected in treated pits suggest that a 7–10 day schedule of retreatment would completely suppress susceptible Cx quinquefasciatus.  相似文献

A new approach is proposed in the treatment of mosquito nets, using a 'two-in-one' combination of pyrethroid and non-pyrethroid insecticides applied to different parts of bednets. The objectives are mainly to overcome certain limitations of pyrethroid-impregnated bednets currently recommended for malaria control purposes. Apart from developing alternatives to pyrethroid dependency, we sought to counteract pyrethroid irritant effects on mosquitoes (excito-repellency) and resistance to pyrethroids. The idea takes advantage of the presumed host-seeking behaviour of mosquitoes confronted by a net draped over a bed, whereby the mosquito may explore the net from the top downwards. Thus, nets could be more effective if treated on the upper part with residual non-irritant insecticide (carbamate or organophosphate) and with a pyrethroid on the lower part. Sequential exposure to different insecticides with distinct modes of action is equivalent to the use of a mixture as a potential method of managing insecticide resistance. We also intended to improve the control of nuisance mosquitoes, especially Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae) that often survive pyrethroids, in order to encourage public compliance with use of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs). Polyester bednets were pretreated with residual pyrethroid (bifenthrin 50 mg/m2 or deltamethrin 25 mg/m2) on the lower half and with carbamate (carbosulfan 300 mg/m2) on the upper half to minimize contact with net users. Unreplicated examples of these 'two-in-one' treated nets were field-tested against wild mosquitoes, in comparison with an untreated net and bednets treated with each insecticide alone, including PermaNet wash-resistant formulation of deltamethrin 50 mg/m2. Overnight tests involved volunteers sleeping under the experimental bednets in verandah-trap huts at Yaokofikro, near Bouaké in C te d'Ivoire, where the main malaria vector Anopheles gambiae Giles, as well as Culex quinquefasciatus Say, are highly resistant to pyrethroids. Efficacy of these ITNs was assessed in the huts by four entomological criteria: deterrency and induced exophily (effects on hut entry and exit), blood-feeding and mortality rates (immediate and delayed). Overall, the best impact was achieved by the bednet treated with carbosulfan alone, followed by 'two-in-one' treatments with carbosulfan plus pyrethroid. Blood-feeding rates were 13% An. gambiae and 17% Cx. quinquefasciatus in huts with untreated nets, but only 3% with carbosulfan ITNs, 7-11% with combined ITN treatment, 6-8% An. gambiae and 12-14% Cx. quinquefasciatus with pyrethroid alone. Mosquitoes that entered the huts were killed sooner by nets with combined treatment than by pyrethroid alone. Mortality-rates in response to ITNs with carbosulfan (alone or combined with pyrethroid) were significantly greater for Cx. quinquefasciatus, but not for An. gambiae, compared to ITNs with only pyrethroid. About 20% of sleepers reported potential side-effects (headache and/or sneezing) from use of ITN treated with carbosulfan alone. Further development of this new 'two-in-one' ITN concept requires a range of investigations (choice of effective products, cost-benefit analysis, safety, etc.) leading to factory production of wash-resistant insecticidal nets treated with complementary insecticides.  相似文献

Abstract 1. Unoccupied wheat plants and wheat plants occupied by conspecific eggs or larvae were presented to ovipositing female Hessian flies in choice tests.
2. The presence of conspecific eggs on the leaf surfaces of wheat plants did not appear to have any effect on the responses of ovipositing Hessian fly females.
3. The presence of conspecific larvae at the base and nodes of wheat plants for 1, 6, or 11 days had significant effects on Hessian fly oviposition. Eggs oviposited on plants were inversely proportional to larval densities and days of larval occupation.
4. Feeding by Hessian fly larvae is associated with several changes in wheat plants. One of these changes, the growth arrestment of the plant, was measured by recording the heights of plants used in oviposition tests. Plant heights were inversely proportional to both larval densities and days of occupation. Plant heights were directly proportional to eggs oviposited on plants.
5. The consequences of adult female avoidance of plants occupied by conspecific larvae were investigated by allowing females to oviposit on unoccupied plants and 1-day, 6-day, and 11-day larval occupied plants, then scoring at the end of the first larval instar the survival of the offspring that resulted from this oviposition.
6. Survival during the first larval instar was 88% for the offspring of females that oviposited on unoccupied plants, decreasing to 82, 31, and 4% on the 1-day, 6-day, and 11-day occupied plant treatments. On these four plant treatments, a positive correlation was found between larval performance (i.e. survival) and the preferences of ovipositing females.
7. On the four plant treatments, relationships between first-instar larval density and first-instar larval survival varied significantly. On unoccupied plants, survival was inversely proportional to density. On plants oviposited on at 6 days of larval occupation, survival was directly proportional to density.  相似文献

In the present study, the larvicidal activity of ageing aqueous suspensions of spinosad against larvae of Culex pipiens biotype molestus, as well as their effect on the oviposition preferences of adult gravid females were evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Spinosad was applied at its label dose and the aqueous stock suspensions were stored for various ageing intervals up to 38 days. Untreated distilled water and diflubenzuron served as negative and positive control, respectively. Stock suspensions were taken after 0, 2, 6, 8, 16, 30 and 38 days of storage for diflubenzuron and after 0, 2, 6, 8, 20 and 27 days for spinosad, and were used for the bioassays. Furthermore, the effect of spinosad on the oviposition response of Cx. p. biotype molestus gravid females was investigated in two-choice oviposition preference bioassays. Spinosad was evaluated at half of its label dose and at its label dose, whereas diflubenzuron and distilled water served as positive and negative control, respectively. Results showed that both insecticides were found highly effective for the control of Cx. p. biotype molestus larvae, for ageing intervals up to 27 and 38 days for spinosad and diflubenzuron, respectively. Spinosad acted immediately after the preparation of the insecticidal solution (LT50 = 1.5 h), whereas for aged samples, LT50 values increased with the increase of the ageing interval (LT50 = 5 days for the 27 days old sample). For diflubenzuron, ageing time increased its insecticidal activity, as for aged diflubenzuron-treated solutions, lower LT50 values were achieved. In the oviposition preference bioassays, significantly fewer egg rafts were laid in water treated with spinosad at its label dose compared to control. However, this was not the case for water treated with spinosad at half of its label dose. Oviposition Activity Index (OAI) values were always comprised between −0.3 and 0.3, showing no relevant oviposition deterrence or attraction. The results of the present study contribute to our understanding of the effect of ageing on insecticidal solutions widely used in urban areas to control Cx. p. biotype molestus. Although an important vector of high public health importance, Cx. p. biotype molestus has been scarcely studied as target of environmentally and toxicologically reduced risk insecticides, such as spinosad.  相似文献
