Various aspects of the parasitims of caterpillars ofAscia monuste orseis byCotesia ayerzai, were studied in laboratory choice tests. Individual ♂♂ were found to be extremely variable in ovipositional duration, as well as in the number of eggs oviposited. To simulate parasitoid dispersal, or low host density, we isolated ♂♂ for 60 min following initial exposure and compared our tests with ♂♂ which had not been isolated. No differences in (1) the number of eggs oviposited per host instar; (2) the conditional probability of host encounter; (3) host acceptance; and (4) the conditional probability of instar specific parasitism were found between these groups. Held ♂♂ did, however, reject hosts after ovipositor insertions in a higher proportion.   相似文献

In vitro rearing of the egg parasitoidTrissolcus basalis (WOLL.) from eggs collected on the natural hostNezara viridula (L.) was initiated. Several oligidic diets containing insect material (Manduca sexta hemolymph or host egg content) were tested. Our initial medium with 50% hemolymph induced a high egg mortality, but by decreasing the hemolymph concentration, increasing the hen egg yolk concentration and adding 15% of free amino acids mixture, a hatching rate of 85% of the parasitoid eggs was obtained with 39% reaching the second instar and 33% the third instar. In a medium without hemolymph, but with 18% liquid from parasitized host eggs we obtained 90% to 100% hatching, 25 to 27% reaching the second instar and 8% the third instar. We did not obtain pupation from eggsin vitro, but did get pupae and adults from larvae rearedin vivo to second instar and transfered to anin vitro system.   相似文献

The effect of maternal age and hostHeliothis virescens (F.) deprivation on egg production and allocation byMicroplitis croceipes (Cresson) was determined in the laboratory on 0.5, 1.0, 3.0, 6.0, 9.0, and 12.0 days old parasitoids. In host-deprived parasitoids, newly-emerged (0.5-day old) females produced significantly fewer eggs than older ones; egg production peaked 3 to 6 days after emergence and declined thereafter. However, the number of eggs found in undeprived parasitoids at various ages suggested a cyclical pattern of egg production. The rate of parasitization by host-deprivedM. croceipes was higher in 1.0 to 6.0 days old than in newly-emerged or older females and was correlated strongly with egg production (r=0.93). The first observation on premature larval hatching inM. croceipes was documented.   相似文献

Microplitis mediator (Haliday) a gregarious endoparasite was recorded for the first time fromAgrotis segetum (Schiff) in Ankara, Turkey. The female parasites found their hosts by responding to the faeces of the caterpillars. An average, females laid 15.5±1.6 eggs in the bodies of their hosts. The newly laid eggs were elongated, oval in shape and 0.23±0.004 mm long and 0.07 mm wide. They hatched in 5, 4 and 3 days at 20±2°C, 25±2°C and 30±2°C respectively when maintained at 60–70% R.H. and 14∶10 light∶dark regime. At the same temperatures, the larval stage lasted for 24.9±0.6, 18.2±0.4 and 17.1±0.5 days respectively. The prepupal stage was completed in 2 days at 25±2°C, whereas the prepupal and pupal (cocoon) stage lasted 10.9±0.2, 7.0±0.1 and 6.2±0.1 days respectively at the temperatures mentioned above. The adults started mating and feeding shortly after emergence. Female parasites started laying after one day, 7–11 hours and 5–7 hours at the temperatures stated above. At these temperatures females lived for 10.8±0.2, 5.4±0.1, 4.6±0.1 days and laid on average 556, 484 and 363 eggs respectively, whereas the males survived 10.5±0.3, 4.7±0.1 and 4.4±0.1 days respectively.   相似文献

Laboratory studies showed that 1st-instarBonnetia comta (Fallén) maggots (planidia) had a significant impact (P<0.05) on mortality of all black cutworm (BCW),Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel), instars, either by killing 1st- and 2nd-instar BCWs 2.3 to 9.7 days after parasitization or by producing a puparium from older host instars. Diet consumption and utilization by BCW larvae parasitized byB. comta as 4th instars were similar to those of nonparasitized larvae until 1 to 2 days before the parasitoid emerged. In a 2-year host exposure study in Iowa, it was found thatB. comta primarily parasitized released BCWs in June through September and did not seem to play a role in controlling the damaging 1st generation of BCW larvae. Techniques were developed to produce and store large numbers ofB. comta planidia.Bonnetia comta deposited large numbers of planidia on filter paper treated with a fecal supernatant. These planidia could be stored on filter paper in a covered Petri dish at 4.4°C for 5 days with minimal mortality. Preliminary field data show that planidia placed around corn seedlings infested with 4th-instar BCW larvae do parasitize the pest and reduce the hosts cutting potential.  相似文献

The endoparasitic development ofG. liparidis was examined in 3 different host stages of gypsy moth larvae. Hatching ofG. liparidis-larvae occurred 3 to 5 days after oviposition in hosts parasitized during their premoulting period, and after 5 to 7 days in those parasitized in the 3rd midinstar state. The parasites generally moulted to the 2nd larval instar between the 11th and 13th day in the first group, and between the 13th and 15th day in the latter, when they had reached a volume of 0.04–0.05 mm3. The positive correlation between host ecdysis and the ecdysis of 1st stadium larvae to L2 suggested that host moulting influenced the development of the parasitoid larvae. Emergence from the host larvae occurred at 20°C after 27 days on average, and coincided with the parasites moulting to the 3rd instar. Five to 7 days after spinning their cocoons near the developmentally arrested host larva, the male, and 1 to 2 days later the female wasps eclosed. Due to the variation in the number of parasites per host, no difference was observed between the hosts parasitized at various stages; however, a tendency for later parasitized hosts to contain more parasite larvae was evident. The nutritional conditions of the moth parental generation influenced both host and parasite development. On the other hand no influence of host age was observed on emergence dates of larvae and wasps.   相似文献

The response of the parasitoidCampoletis sonorensis (Cameron) as a natural control agent of the fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), was evaluated at 6 host densities and 2 temperature regime. A type-II functional response was exhibited by femaleC. sonorensis in response to varying densities of all armyworn larvae at both temperatures. Significantly more larvae were parasitized at 25°C for the host densities of 60 and 75, than for the same densities at 30°C. Third instar fall armyworm larvae were found to be the preferred stage for parasitization byC. sonorensis. This research was supported by funds from HATCH project no. Telenomus busseolae Gahan is the most important egg parasitoid of sugarcane stem borers in Iran. Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the functional response of T. busseolae to egg densities of Sesamia nonagrioides (Lefebvre) under four different temperatures (20, 25, 30 and 35°C). Results of logistic regression revealed a type III functional response for all temperatures tested and type of functional response was not affected by temperature. Roger's random parasite equation was fitted to observed data at 35°C. In the other data sets (collected data under 20, 25 and 30 °C) Roger's equation could not provide meaningful parameters, therefore Holling's disk equation was used to fit the data. The attack rate for T. busseolae varying from 0.001784 to 0.10704, 0.0026 to 0.152, 0.0024 to 0.144 and 0.000866 to 0.05196 per h and estimated handling times were 0.59, 0.50, 0.53 and 0.29 h at 20, 25, 30 and 35°C, respectively. Based on asymptotic 95% confidence intervals, functional response parameters did not differ significantly from 20 to 30°C, which indicates that handling time and attack rate are least affected by the temperature changes. The results suggest a similar performance of T. busseolae against S. nonagrioides eggs at temperatures of 20–30°C. These results show that T. busseolae is well adapted to temperature changes during the sugarcane growing season.  相似文献

The effect of parasitism byHyposoter didymator (Thunb.) [Hym.: Ichneumonidae] on food consumption and utilization bySpodoptera litura (Fb.) [Lep.: Noctuidae] was studied for seven days, during which the parasitoid completed its larval development. Food consumption, weight gained and faeces produced were significantly less in parasitized larvae than in unparasitized larvae after the 4th day following parasitization. Approximate digestibility was higher in parasitized larvae after the 2nd day following parasitization. Efficiency of conversion of ingested and digested food into body weight was greater in unparasitized larvae after the 2nd day of parasitization. There seems to be a definite immediate advantage to the crop on releasing the parasitoid due to the reduced consumption of food. Field surveys were conducted during 1990–92 to document the relative abundance of different species of parasites of the lepidopterous stem borersSesamia calamistis Hampson andEldana saccharina Walker in maize fields in southwestern Nigeria. Species of parasitoids detected on both stem borers included the larvalpupal parasitoidsSturmiopsis parasitica Curran (Diptera: Tachinidae) andBrachymeria feae Masi (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae), and the larval parasitoidDolichogenidea polaszeki Walker (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). The braconidCotesia sesamiae (Cameron) was found attackingS. calamistis. The hyperparasitoidExoristobia dipterae (Risbec) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) was detected on a pupa ofS. parasitica. Parasitic nematodes belonging toMermis sp. and/orHexamermis sp. were found infesting larvae of both stem borers. Overall, larval/pupal parasitization levels at Ibadan were low and ranged from 4.2 to 22.8% forS. calamistis and 1.2 to 13% forE. saccharina. Of the parasites found,S. parasitica was the most common, followed by nematodes. Four hymenopteran egg parasitoids were found attackingS. calamistis: Telenomus busseolae Gahan,T. isis Polaszek (Scelionidae),Lathromeris ovicida Risbec, andTrichogrammatoidea eldanae Viggiani (Trichogrammatidae). Egg parasitization ranged from 13.4 to 41.5%. The only egg parasitoid detected onE. saccharina wasTelenomus applanatus Bin and Johnson, which inflicted only 5% parasitization.  相似文献

The parasitic wasp,Edovum puttleri Grissell, was successfully reared onLeptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) in the laboratory and increased in sufficient numbers for inoculative release studies in the spring and summer. The effects of temperature on parasite development, and host-parasite ratios in the laboratory are presented. The sex ratio of parasites reared in the laboratory are compared to those released and recovered in the field.  相似文献

Artificial and modified natural hosts were exposed to females of the gypsy moth [Lymantria dispar (L.)] hyperparasite,Eurytoma appendigaster (Swederus), to investigate its host recognition behavior on the primary host, which are cocooned larvae of the gypsy moth parasite,Cotesia melanoscela (Ratzeburg). Material(s) which caused drilling behavior by the hyperparasite on host cocoons were extracted with both polar and non-polar solvents. However, cocoons washed with large volumes of solvent still caused substantial drilling activities by females, suggesting that additional cues may be important. Results suggest that host recognition in this hyperparasite involves a variety of host characteristics.   相似文献

The results of laboratory studies on the life history, morphology of immature stages, effects of food and water on adult longevity, host age preference for oviposition, parthenogenesis, and adult behavior ofTelenomus solitus Johnson are presented.Telenomus solitus completed its development in 10.8 days (egg, 0.3 day; 1st instar, 2.7 days; 2nd instar, 3.7 days; and pupa, 4.1 days). The adults lived longest when provided with both honey and water. Without food, they survived less than 24 h. Parasitization of host eggs varied significantly with their age, being highest in 42 h old eggs. Fewer than 10% of eggs older than 60 h were parasitized successfully. The periodicity of oviposition was unimodal; it occurred throughout the 24 h period and peaked in the late photophase. Females ofT. solitus are arrhenotokous. The behavioral sequences during courtship, mating, and oviposition are described.   相似文献

During 1981 and 1982, bollworm,Heliothis zea (Boddie), and tobacco budworm,H. virescens (F.), larvae (n=3,666) were collected from 41 cotton fields near Portland, Arkansas (USA) to assess the occurrence of parasitism. Three strategies were employed to controlHeliothis spp. in these fields: (1) release ofTrichogramma pretiosum Riley; (2) insecticidal control; or (3) inaction (check). Insecticide use in nonchemical control fields was reduced, but not eliminated.Heliothis spp. larvae collected in cotton had higher parasitism rates in 1981 (30.9%) and 1982 (50.1%) than had been reported for cotton since the advent of organochlorine insecticide usage. Four species of larval parasites and 1 species of larval-pupal parasite were recorded. The larval parasiteMicroplitis croceipes (Cresson) comprised 90.6% and 94.5% of all parasitic insects reared from field collectedHeliothis spp. in 1981 and 1982, respectively. No difference (P>0.05) in level of parasitism existed betweenH. zea andH. virescens. Differences between treatments occurred only in 1982 whenH. zea larvae were parasitized at a greater (P<0.05) rate in check fields (68.3%) than in insecticidal control fields (44.3%). Higher levels of larval parasitism in cotton fields may be a consequence of reduced insecticide usage and changes in materials applied, particularly the pyrethroids. Field grown foliage from the resistant soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] breeding line GAT “81–327” and the susceptible cultivar “Ransom” was used to rear unparasitized larvae of the soybean looper (SBL),Pseudoplusia includens (Walker), and larvae parasitized byCopidosoma truncatellum (Dalman). SBL larvae, whether parasitized or not, consumed more foliage when fed “Ransom”. Unparasitized larvae reared on “81–327” had longer developmental times and suffered greater mortality than unparasitized larvae reared on “Ransom”. Parasitization of SBL larvae byC. truncatellum increased total foliage consumption of both soybean lines. Parasitized larvae reared on the resistant “81–327” weighed less and yielded fewer parasitoid adults.

Studies were conducted on the solitary egg-larval endoparasitoidPhanerotoma hendecasisella Cam. [Hymenoptera: Braconidae] to determine its biology onDiaphania indica (Saunders) [Lepidoptera: Pyralidae]. Larvae pass through 3 stages as determined by the shape and size of the mandibles. Mean developmental period from egg to adult was 26.51 days at 26.06 °C and 73.88% RH. There is no preoviposition period. The sex ratio was 1∶1.12 (male/female). Mean adult longevity was not different for ♂♂ and ♀♀.   相似文献

The parasitoidEphedrus cerasicola Stary oviposited in the 4 nymphal instars and in newly moulted apterous adults ofMyzus persicae (Sulzer). Development and reproduction of unparasitized and parasitized aphids at 21°C were compared. Unparasitized aphids developed to adults in 6.5 days and started to reproduce after 7 days. Longevity varied between 7 and 42 days. Net reproductive rate (R0) was 40.7. In contrast to older nymphs, aphids parasitized in the 1 st instar almost never reached the adult stage before mummification. Aphids parasitized in 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar and as newly moulted adults produced respectively 0.07 %, 2 %, 23 % and 32 % of offspring produced by unparasitized aphids. Corresponding reproductive periods were 1, 1.4, 3 and 4 days. Host age at parasitization had a slight effect on the parasitoid's developmental rate and had no effect on egg or pupal survival, or on the sex ratio of the emerging parasitoids.  相似文献

A small cage was designed to study the biology and behavior ofAnagrus flaveolus Waterhouse, an important egg parasitoid of the brown planthopper,Nilaparvata lugens (Stal), a pest of rice. A method of rearing moderate numbers of parasitoids on planthopper eggs in the laboratory was developed. Though the mymaridAnagrus flaveolus Waterhouse, a common egg parasitoid of rice planthoppers and leafhoppers all over Asia, reduces pest populations, its biological control potential has largely been overlooked because of its minute size and the lack of suitable techniques to study and rear it in the laboratory.Ôtake (1968, 1969) described some techniques to study the development, longevity and fecundity of a related speciesAnagrus nr.flaveolus Waterhouse. The cages described herein are much simpler to build and more efficient to use compared with those developed earlier. Rearing this important parasitoid in large numbers in the laboratory has not been done before.  相似文献

At 21 °C,Spalangia nigra Latreille (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) averaged 29.3 days between exposure and emergence of 1st progeny from host house flies,Musca domestica L. (Diptera: Muscidae). At 27 °C, the average developmental time to 1st emergence was reduced to 26.6 days, and a majority of adult wasps emerged from host house fly puparia between 29 and 40 days postoviposition. The sex ratio of progeny ranged from 1.4 to 1.8 female-to-male, but all progeny of virgin females were male. Male wasps lived from 6.8–15 and females 11–17.8 days at 27 °C; honey as a food source increased longevity. No significant differences in parasitism byS. nigra were associated with host house fly pupal densities ranging from 1 to 200 pupae per female-male pair of wasps, but average percent parasitism decreased at host densities greater than 50. House fly pupae exposed to parasitism at ages ranging from 4 to 96 h did not differ in subsequent production of adult flies.S. nigra did not demonstrate preference for house flies or stable flies,Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) (Diptera: Muscidae) as hosts. The results of these studies indicate thatS. nigra may contribute significantly to previously unexplained mortality of house flies and stable flies.   相似文献

The tobacco caterpillar,Spodoptera litura F. is a major pest in the tobacco nurseries causing damage by defoliation. Inundative releases were carried out with 650,000 parasites from 1st July, 1974 to 30th November, 1976. This paper reports the effectiveness from 1976 to 1979 of the parasite in reducing the population of tobacco caterpillar.Telenomus remus Nixon was found significantly effective in reducing the pest population at the peak of infestation in the site of release as compared to control nurseries where no parasites were released. However, the difference inSpodoptera population between the site of release and control was minimal during the last 1979 nursery season which suggests the necessity of inundative releases ofT. remus after every 2 years for effectively checking the population ofS. litura in tobacco nurseries.
