The objective of this study was to estimate the allele and genotype frequencies of the IGF-IR/TaqI, m-calpain/HhaI, and UCP-3/BglI polymorphisms and to determine associations between these polymorphisms and growth traits in Chinese indigenous cattle breeds.
Genotyping was performed on 321 animals including 135 Nanyang, 80 Qinchuan, and 106 Jiaxian cattle. No significant differences
in growth traits were observed between the genotypes of IGF-IR/TaqI polymorphism in Nanyang cattle. The m-calpain/HhaI, and UCP-3/BglI polymorphisms were associated with body weight, withers height, and body length of 6 months (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), body length of 18 months (P < 0.05), and body length and heart girth of 24 months (P < 0.01) in Nanyang cattle. In addition, Nanyang cattle aged 12 months with AB genotype of m-calpain/HhaI polymorphism had higher body length and heart girth than those with BB genotype (P < 0.01). The withers height were greater (P < 0.01) in Nanyang cattle aged 12 months with genotype AB of UCP-3/BglI polymorphism than those with genotype BB. The Nanyang cattle aged 24 months with genotype AA had higher withers height than
those with genotype BB (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the m-calpain/HhaI and UCP-3/BglI polymorphisms may be used as DNA markers for selection in the breeding process of Nanyang cattle. 相似文献

Ten single nucleotide polymorphisms were used for genotyping of 176 Tongshan Black-boned goats, which are Chinese indigenous goat colony for meat production. The average individual heterozygosity was 0.292. To assess the correlations between individual heterozygosity and growth in Tongshan Black-boned goat individuals, and the potential of using individual heterozygosity as an indicator of growth, the data of growth traits, including body weight, height at withers, body length, chest girth and cannon circumference, were collected. Significant correlations were observed between individual heterozygosity and body weight, height at withers, body length, heart girth, cannon circumference (P < 0.05). All the significant regression showed positive slope with R square values ranged from 0.0251 to 0.0368. These data suggests that individual heterozygosity is positively correlated with growth traits in Tongshan Black-boned goat individuals and associative overdominance may affect Tongshan Black-boned goat growth significantly. Therefore it is possible to use individual heterozygosity as an indicator of growth. Our results also provide a strong support to the overdominance hypothesis. 相似文献

Genetic polymorphism of the prolactin receptor (PRLR) gene was detected by PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing methods in 665 individuals from five Chinese cattle breeds. The results
showed that at the P1 locus, three observed genotypes (AA, AB and BB), two linked SNPs (G1267A and T1268C), and one missense mutation (S18N) within a putative signal peptide were determined.
The frequencies of haplotypes A and B in the five breeds were 0.596–0.802 and 0.198–0.404, respectively. Polymorphism of the PRLR gene was shown to be significantly associated with growth traits in the Nanyang breed. Individuals with genotype BB had greater hucklebone width, body weight and average daily gain than those with genotype AA at 6 months old (P < 0.01), as well as better body height, body length and heart girth when 6 months (P < 0.05). This study revealed for the first time that the PRLR gene is a promising candidate gene that affects growth traits in cattle. 相似文献

A data set concerning 1,816 subjects entered in the Italian Horse Registry from 1925 to 2002 was analyzed to investigate the morphological evolution of the Murgese horse and to obtain useful elements to enhance breeding practices. Three basic body measurements (height at withers, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference) were considered for each subject. Heritabilities were calculated for each parameter to infer the growth and development traits of this breed. Over the past 20 years the Murgese horse has undergone considerable changes, passing from a typical mesomorphic structure (height at withers: 156.30 and 151.04 cm; chest girth: 185.80 and 176.11 cm; cannon bone: 21.10 and 19.82 cm for males and females, respectively) to a mesodolichomorphic structure (height at withers: 160.31 and 156.44 cm; chest girth: 187.89 and 182.48 cm; cannon bone: 21.07 and 20.37 cm, for males and females, respectively). Due to these changes and to its characteristic strength and power, the Murgese, which was once used in agriculture and for meat production (at the end of its life), is now involved in sports, mainly in trekking and equestrian tourism. As a member of MYLK family, MYLK4 gene may play a vital role in muscle development. In this study, one novel single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was identified the bovine MYLK4 by sequencing pooled DNA samples (pool-Seq) and forced polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (forced PCR-RFLP) methods. Overall, we reported one mutation (SNP1) in the intron 10 region within the bovine MYLK4 gene in 559 individuals representing five main cattle breeds from China (Nanyang, NY; Qinchuan; Jiaxian, JX; Pinan cattle; and Caidamu cattle, CDM). Genotype AA and allele A were predominant in the QC, PN, and XN populations. Association analysis with growth traits in the QC breed showed that the animals with genotype GG had significantly greater chest breadth and hip width (P?<?0.05). Meanwhile, the genotype GG was strongly associated with withers height and body length than those with genotype AA (P?<?0.01 or P?<?0.05) at 12 months in the NY breed. These statistical results exhibited that the MYLK4 gene might be a potential candidate gene to improve cattle’s growth traits, and the SNP could be used as molecular markers in early marker-assisted selection (MAS) in beef cattle breeding program. 相似文献

A multilocus GWAS was performed to explore the genetic architecture of four growth traits in yak. In total, 354 female yaks for which measurements of body weight (BW), withers height (WH), body length (BL) and chest girth (CG) at weaning were available underwent genotyping with the Illumina BovineHD BeadChip (770K). After quality control, we retained 98 688 SNPs and 354 animals for GWAS analysis. We identified seven, 18, seven and nine SNPs (corresponding to seven, 17, seven and eight candidate genes) associated with BW, WH, BL and CG at weaning respectively. Interestingly, most of these candidate genes were reported to be involved in growth-related processes such as muscle formation, lipid deposition, feed efficiency, carcass composition and development of the central and peripheral nervous system. Our results offer novel insight into the molecular architecture underpinning yak growth traits. Further functional analyses are thus warranted to explore the molecular mechanisms whereby these genes affect these traits of interest. 相似文献

Our previous genome‐wide association study in sheep revealed that OAR3‐84073899.1 (SNP31) in intron 8 of the CAMKMT gene was significantly associated with post‐weaning gain at the genomic level. Herein, we performed a replication study to investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the CAMKMT gene exons, and 1000 bp of the 5′‐ and 3′‐intranslated regions (UTRs) and their associations with growth traits in Ujumqin sheep. Five SNPs were identified through DNA pool sequencing technology: SNP26 in the 5′‐UTR, SNP06 in exon 5, SNP07 in exon 8 and SNP27 and SNP28 in the 3′‐UTR. Six SNPs, including SNP31 in intron 8, were genotyped in the validation group of 343 Ujumqin sheep, and each SNP was classified into three genotypes. The chi‐square test suggested that all the variations were in Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (P > 0.05) except for SNP28 and SNP31. Linkage disequilibrium analysis showed that SNP07 and SNP31 were strongly linked. An association analysis suggested that SNP06 was significantly associated with chest girth at 6 months of age (P < 0.05). SNP07 exhibited significant correlation with body weight and chest girth at 4 months of age and with body weight, chest girth and chest width at 6 months of age (P < 0.05). SNP27 was highly associated with body weight and chest girth at 4 months of age (P < 0.05), and SNP28 was extremely significantly associated with body weight and chest girth at 4 months of age and with chest girth at 6 months of age (P < 0.01). SNP31 was significantly associated with body weight and shin circumference at 4 months of age and with post‐weaning gain (P < 0.05). Association analysis of the combined effect of SNP07 and SNP31 showed significant correlation with body weight and chest girth at four of months of age (P < 0.05) and with body weight and chest girth at 6 months of age (P < 0.05). These results indicate that the SNPs could be used as meritorious and available genetic markers in growth traits breeding and that the CAMKMT gene may be one of the key candidate genes that affect Ujumqin economic traits. 相似文献

Previous studies have revealed a significant association between SNPs found within the heparan sulfate 6-O-sulfotransferase 3 (HS6ST3) gene and obesity. This study identified a novel 43-bp indel polymorphism in intron 1 of HS6ST3 in 1963 chickens from nine different breeds, and three genotypes, designated II, ID and DD, were observed. The frequency of the ‘I’ (0.62–0.87) allele was higher than that of the ‘D’ (0.13–0.38) allele. A total of 777 individuals of the Gushi-Anka F2 resource population were used for the analysis of associations according to growth traits, carcass traits, serum variables and meat quality traits. The results showed that the 43-bp indel polymorphism was significantly associated with the body weight at 4 and 6 weeks of age, chest depth at 4 and 12 weeks of age and shank girth at 12 weeks of age (P?<?0.05). In terms of the carcass traits, the indel polymorphism was significantly associated with breast muscle weight, heart weight and leg weight (P?<?0.05). These findings suggested that this indel polymorphism has the potential to become a new target for the marker-assisted selection of chicken growth and carcass traits. 相似文献

Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABP) belong to a superfamily of lipid binding proteins that exhibit a high affinity for long chain fatty acids and appear to function in metabolism and intracellular transportation of lipids. The current study was designed to investigate the effects of heart (H)-FABP gene on chicken growth and body composition traits. The Northeast Agricultural University divergent broiler lines for abdominal fat and a broiler X silkie F2 population were used in this study. Body weight and body composition traits were measured in the populations. Primers were designed according to the chicken H-FABP gene sequence. Polymorphisms between parental lines were detected by DNA sequencing. PCR-RFLP and PCR-fragment length polymorphism methods were developed to genotype the populations. The results showed that the H-FABP gene polymorphisms in the two populations were associated with abdominal fat percentage. It implied that H-FABP gene can be a candidate locus or linked to a major gene(s) that affects abdominal fat content in the chicken. 相似文献

A genome‐wide association scan for loci affecting withers height was conducted in 782 German Warmblood stallions, which were genotyped using the Illumina EquineSNP50 Bead Chip. A principal components approach was applied to correct for population structure. The analysis revealed a single major QTL on ECA3 explaining ~18 per cent of the phenotypic variance, which is in concordance with recent reports from other horse populations. The LCORL/NCAPG locus represents a strong candidate gene for this QTL. This locus is among a small number that have consistently been identified to influence human height in several large meta‐analyses. Furthermore, a mutation within the NCAPG gene was found to affect growth and body frame size in cattle. Together with the results of this study in German Warmbloods, these findings strongly indicate LCORL/NCAPG as a candidate locus for withers height in horses. The dynamics of plant population differentiation may be integral in predicting aspects of introduced species invasion. In
the present study, we tested the hypothesis that European populations of Senecio inaequidens (Asteraceae), an invasive species with South African origins, differentiated during migration from two independent introduction
sites into divergent altitudinal and climatic zones. We carried out 2 years of common garden experiments with eight populations
sampled from Belgian and ten populations from French altitudinal transects. The Belgian transect followed a temperature and
precipitation gradient. A temperature and summer drought gradient characterized the French transect. We evaluated differentiation
and clinal variation in plants germinated from field-collected seed using the following traits: days to germination, days
to flowering, height at maturity, final plant height and aboveground biomass. Results showed that S. inaequidens populations differentiated in growth traits during invasion. During the 1st year of sampling, the results indicated clinal
variation for growth traits along both the Belgium and French altitudinal transects. Data from the 2nd year of study demonstrated
that with increasing altitude, a reduction in three growth traits, including plant height at maturity, final plant height
and aboveground biomass, was detected along the French transect, but no longer along the Belgian one. Phenological traits
did not exhibit a clear clinal variation along altitudinal transects. The possible evolutionary causes for the observed differentiation
are discussed.

We isolated and characterized eight novel microsatellite loci in the southern emu‐wren (Stipiturus malachurus). We used nonradioactive polymerase chain reaction (PCR)‐based techniques to screen an enriched genomic DNA library. Based on genotypes from a single population, six loci showed no evidence of null alleles and were polymorphic (allele range = 2–9, mean heterozygosity = 0.57), and one locus was sex‐linked (NA = 4). These loci were variable and had different allele size ranges in three other populations of southern emu‐wrens, and are therefore useful for determining levels of genetic diversity within and between populations of the species. 相似文献

of pituitary somatotroph expansion in vertebrates. The objective of this study was to investigate variations in goat GHRHR gene and their associations with growth traits in 668 dairy goats. The results showed four novel single nucleotide polymorphisms
(SNPs): NC_007302:g.5203C>T, 7307C>G, 9583G>A and 9668A>C. In detail, the novel SNP C>T in the 5203rd nucleotide identified
a missense mutation: CCC (Pro)>TCC (Phe) at position 116aa of the goat GHRHR (423aa). Besides, 9583G>A and 9668A>C polymorphism were in complete linkage disequilibrium. The genetic diversity analysis
revealed that the Guanzhong dairy goat possessed intermediate genetic diversity in P3 and P7 loci, and the Xinong Sannen dairy
goat belonged to poor genetic diversity in P4 locus. Significant associations between the genotypes of P3 locus and body length,
body height and chest circumference was observed in Guanzhong goat (P < 0.05). However, in Xinong saanen population, significant statistical difference was only found in body height and body
length (P < 0.05). In P4 and P7 loci, no significant associations were detected between any variant sites and body length, body height
and chest circumference, as well as for the milk traits (P > 0.05). These results strongly suggested that the goat GHRHR gene is a candidate gene that influences growth traits in dairy goat. 相似文献
