1. The abundance of cysts of the bloom‐forming dinoflagellate Peridinium gatunense in the sediments of Lake Kinneret and the effects of environmental conditions on encystment were studied in relation to bloom dynamics. Peak cyst formation coincided with the highest growth rate of the population, prior to bloom peak. 2. Peridinium cysts were counted in water and sediment corer samples from 2000 to 2003 and in archived sediment trap samples collected during 1993–94. The cyst data were examined in relation to ambient temperature and nutrient records, and revealed no direct correlation. 3. In laboratory encystment experiments with Peridinium cells collected from the lake, 0.2–3% of the vegetative cells encysted. Temperature, light and cell density had no significant effect on the percentage of encystment. 4. Cysts were always present in the lake sediments but their abundance in ‘non Peridinium’ years was much lower than after a massive bloom. Vegetative cells were always present in the water column after the collapse of the annual dinoflagellate bloom, potentially serving as the inoculum for the next bloom. We propose that the hardy cysts serve as an emergency ‘gene bank’ to initiate population build up following catastrophic die outs.  相似文献

Lipid peroxidation in Peridinium samples taken from two differentdepths in Lake Kinneret fluctuated throughout the spring withan overall increasing trend. Samples from 0.5 and 5 m showeda similar peroxidation pattern, which was maximal after thefall off in algal biomass. The rapid decline in Peridinium biomasscoincided with ambient lake temperatures of 21–23C. Fattyacid composition profiles were similar at both depths, althoughafter the peak of the bloom, a significant increase in polyunsaturatedfatty acids and oleic acid was only found at 0.5 m, togetherwith a decrease in the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids.These effects were related to ambient light stress rather thana result of lipid peroxidation. Lake samples taken at differentperiods of the bloom and incubated at various temperatures showeddifferential peroxidation. Higher temperatures caused increasedlipid peroxidation, but this appeared to be dependent on thesampling period. Samples withdrawn from the lake at the beginningof the bloom showed little peroxidation after a 5 day incubationat 14C, room temperature (25C) or ambient lake temperature(16C) compared to mid-bloom samples in which there was a significantincrease in peroxidation when they were incubated at room temperature(25C) or ambient lake temperature (22C). Incubation at 14Cinhibited peroxidation; however, samples from mid-bloom againshowed enhanced peroxidation compared with those from the beginningof the bloom. These in situ results suggested a relationshipbetween temperature, another environmental variable during thebloom and lipid peroxidation in Peridinium. As total dissolvedinorganic carbon (DIC) concentrations fall significantly duringthe progress of the bloom and represent an important sourceof environmental stress, laboratory experiments were establishedto investigate the synergistic effect of temperature and carbonnutrition on lipid peroxidation in Peridinium cultures. Increasedtemperature alone caused a slight increase in lipid peroxidation,but this was greatly augmented by carbon limitation. Althoughcarbon limitation induced increased catalase activity, at highertemperatures activity declined after 48 h, allowing for thesubstantial increase in lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

The cells and colonies of Botryococcus braunii laboratory cultureswere examined by interference and scanning electron microcopyand compared with cells isolated from a bloom in Lake Kinneret,Israel. The green cells were located in cups representing theparental cell wall; the cell walls of successive daughter cellsappeared to be fused to the parent and daughter cells wherethey were contiguous. The arrangement of green cells in laboratorycultures was consistent; groups of 2 or 4 cells formed a unitand these units appeared joined together at their bases to formclusters. Green cells from the lake bloom appeared in irregularclusters of units of 2, 3 or more cells. Red bloom cells appearedto be dead with each cup compressed and empty with a hole showingat the cell surface. A hypothesis describing the role of senescenceand nitrogen depletion, based on cytological, ecological, andchemical data, is invoked to explain the change of the bloomcells from green relatively low lipid to orange (or red) highlipid cells.  相似文献

The nature of the toxicity of a bloom of blue-green alga, M. aeruginosa (= Anacystis cyanea), that occurred in a man-made lake was investigated. Crude algal bloom extracts were toxic to laboratory mice when injected intraperitoneally. The lethal dose (LD100) of these extracts was 15-30 mg of lyophilized algal bloom per kilogram body weight. The toxin was purified by a procedure that included ammonium sulphate fractionation, solvent extraction, acid precipitation, Sephadex G25 and DEAE-Sephadex chromatography, and high-voltage electrophoresis at pH 6.5. The preparation gave a single spot on high-voltage electrophoresis at pH 9.0, had no free amino group, and was characterized by a simple amino acid composition of equimolar quantities of L-methionine, L-tyrosine, D-alanine, D-glutamic acid, erythro beta-methyl aspartic acid and methylamine. The LD50 for the purified toxin was estimated to be 0.056 mg/kg of mice, and the approximate LD100 is 0.070 mg/kg, based on the total material found from amino acid analysis. Parenteral administration of the purified toxin to mice produced extensive liver lobular haemorrhage and death within 1-3 h. Repeated inoculation of sublethal doses daily over some weeks produced progressive hepatocyte degeneration and necrosis and the development of fine hepatic fibrosis.  相似文献

为了控制水体富营养化所形成的水华,国外经典的生物操纵论者提倡放养食鱼性鱼类以控制食浮游生物的鱼类,藉此壮大浮游动物种群,然后借助浮游动物遏制藻类.按照这条思路,以浮游生物为食的鲢和鳙应该是清除的对象.本文作者认为我国湖泊中危害性最大的是微囊藻水华,而浮游动物根本不能摄食这种水华,不如直接利用鲢鳙进行控制,因而1989-1992年间在武汉的东湖进行了三次原位围隔试验,2000年再度重复了一次围隔试验,结果证明,迄今在东湖中已消失18年的微囊藻水华,重新出现在不养鱼的围隔里.在养入一定密度的鲢或/和鳙的围隔中,就没有水华出现.已经出现水华的围隔,放入适当密度的鲢或/和鳙后,在短期内水华又复消失;而放入草鱼的围隔,则水华始终持续,不受影响.说明鲢和鳙能有效地遏制微囊藻水华.鲢、鳙遏制水华的有效放养密度(亦即有效生物量)为46-50g·m-3.东湖湖泊中鲢、鳙的生物量,直到1985年才达到这个水平,所以1985年湖里反常地没有出现水华.往后的年份,东湖的鱼产量越来越高,也就是湖里鲢、鳙的生物量越来越大,所以迄今没有微囊藻卷土重来的机会.东湖的水质和其他非生物条件仍适于蓝藻水华的发生与发展,如果东湖鲢、鳙的产量下降到阈值以下,亦即降到1985年以前1000t水平,那么微囊藻及其它蓝藻水华的重来将是不可避免的.经典的生物操纵论学说和措施不能解决微囊藻水华猖獗的问题.相反,用滤食浮游生物的鲢和鳙直接遏制微囊藻却是有实验根据并已被渔业生产实践证明行之有效的.  相似文献

We investigated the molecular diversity of cyanobacteria and bacteria during a water bloom in a lake with a long history of toxic cyanobacterial blooms (Lake Kastoria, Greece). We also tested the hypothesis whether bloom-forming cyanobacteria are preserved in the lake’s sediment 2 years after the bloom. The dominant cyanobacteria during the bloom included the potentially toxin-producing Microcystis aeruginosa and several other Chroococcales forms closely related to the genus Microcystis. This suggests that the use of cyanobacterial-specific primers seems to be very informative in describing the cyanobacteria during the water blooms. The bacterial community showed high diversity, consisting mostly of singleton and doubleton phylotypes. The majority of the phylotypes were typical lake bacteria including some potential pathogens and toxin metabolising bacteria, suggesting that the dominant toxic cyanobacteria did not have any significant effect on the bacterial community structure. In the sediment, 2 years after the water bloom, no bloom-forming cyanobacteria were retrieved, suggesting that they cannot be preserved in the sediment. Similar to the water column, sediment bacterial diversity was also high, consisting mostly of yet-uncultured bacteria that are related to environments where organic matter degradation takes place.  相似文献

1. Critical periods of lipid energy transfer from phyto- to zooplankton were inferred by comparing seasonal patterns of particulate and dissolved lipid fractions in lake water with temporal changes in lipid energy reserves of the zooplankton in a hypereutrophic lake.
2. The midsummer phytoplankton community was dominated by the bloom-forming cyanobacterium Aphanizomenon flos-aquae. The collapse of the bloom was accompanied by a 2-week period of severe nitrogen deficiency after which there was a marked increase in the concentration of lipid energy reserves in the particulate (algal) fraction.
3. Areal lipid energy reserves of the dominant herbivorous zooplankton responded positively to changes in the tri-and diacylglycerol content of the particulate fraction of lake water in a species-specific manner.
4. Bacterial numbers also peaked in September concomitant with a large increase in free fatty acids in the dissolved lipid fraction probably produced by the decay of the
A. flos-aquae bloom.
5. The association between periods of nitrogen deficiency and increased energy reserve lipids in the particulate fraction supports observations made with laboratory algal cultures that periods of nutrient deficiency may intensify lipid synthesis in some algal species, thereby enhancing the rate of lipid energy transfer from phytoplankton to zooplankton.  相似文献

水华爆发的突变模型——以巢湖为例   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17  
面对湖泊水库富营养化的严峻形势,水华防治是当务之急,而根据富营养化现状对水华进行准确的判定和预报更是重中之重.从水生态系统的角度出发,综合考虑TP、T、Chla和DO等4个对巢湖富营养化乃至水华影响最为突出的因子,构建了巢湖水华突变的尖点模型,通过模型来模拟巢湖富营养化引发水华的情势.在对巢湖2000~2003年时间序列的监测数据进行数据拟合的基础上,发现南淝河入湖区断面处逐月TP、T、Chla和DO数据的演变规律符合突变理论的尖点模型特征.经检验,模型的相对误差控制在10%左右,具有较好的拟合精度.根据模型的突变判别,巢湖的水生态系统2003年7月在南淝河入湖区断面处发生了突变,这一模拟结论与该断面2003年8月爆发水华的实际情况相一致.研究表明,水华突变模型的建立,准确地反映了巢湖富营养化引发水华的实际情况,系统地勾勒出富营养化状态下水生态系统各要素间的动态响应模式,揭示了水华爆发的突变机理.通过水华突变模型的构建,不仅能够对巢湖水华的发生进行判断和预报,还可以对各项防治措施的实施效果进行预测和模拟,进而为综合整治方案的优化和统筹提供科学依据.水华的爆发是多诱因的综合作用结果,是营养物质长期累积、由量变到质变的演化过程,作为目前唯一的一种研究由渐变引起突变的系统理论,突变理论满足水华研究的数理要求,为水华现象的数值模拟提供了可行的解决方案.  相似文献

The effects of blue-green algal blooms on an emergent reed plant,Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud., were investigated in a eutrophic lake in central Japan. The plants showed conspicuous withering of bottom leaves in spring of 1982, after an early occurrence of the bloom. In June, the plants in the area of algal infestation had about half the shoot length and dry weight of normalP. australis without the algal infestation. Reductions in water transparency, dissolved oxygen in bottom water and redox potentials of surface soil corresponded to the presence of algal bloom and plant damage.  相似文献

Tolerance is a plant response to herbivory that allows plants to sustain defoliation without any fitness consequences. In agriculture, the maximum amount of defoliation that crops can experience without yield loss is defined as the damage threshold. Damage thresholds can be used to develop tolerance‐based management strategies, which would offer guidelines for farmers for when pest control should be enacted to minimise pesticide use while maintaining yield. Damage thresholds for many varieties of potatoes, Solanum tuberosum, have been documented, but not consolidated into a general framework. We aggregated data from published studies and quantified the effects of variety, maturity group, life stage and defoliation mechanisms on damage thresholds to inform a tolerance‐based management strategy for potato. Late maturing varieties did not have different damage thresholds than early maturing varieties. Damage thresholds were greater than 60% defoliation at emergence and post‐bloom and less than 40% defoliation pre‐bloom and during bloom. If the stems were damaged, emergence and post‐bloom damage thresholds were reduced from 60% defoliation without stem damage to 35% and 52% defoliation with stem damage. Likewise, the damage thresholds during bloom were reduced to 20% defoliation when stems were damaged. We propose using action thresholds based on defoliation as a baseline to develop a tolerance‐based management strategy for potatoes.  相似文献

A "standing waves" model is presented which is based on the idea that an energy impulse accumulated from the spring bloom outburst of phytoplankton moves along a food chains. When its "echo" comes back, it generates a new bloom outburst, and a next cycle occurs. It is supposed that the resonance of self-supporting oscillations in populations with periodic solar influences led to standing waves, which provide for biosystem stability and cyclic recurrence of phytoplankton bloom. To test the model, an analysis of the interannual dynamics (from 1941 to 1998) of the pelagic phytoplankton in the southern basin of the lake Baikal was carried out. The discovered 11-year cycles with 3 2/3-year cycles within them conform well to the model, which made it possible to explain not only the cyclic recurrence but also a number of other obscure aspects of phytoplankton life in the lake Baikal. The next bloom burst is predicted to take place in 2001.  相似文献

Chattonella marina was found in high abundance in the phytoplankton of the Salton Sea from April to November, 1997. Maximum mean density was over 600 cells ml–1 mid-lake. It was not detected from January 1997 to March 1997 or in January and February 1998. Transmission electron microscope studies show the typical Chattonella features: a teardrop-shaped nucleus, numerous radially arranged chloroplasts and lack of a cell wall. Gills of fish collected at the height of the Chattonella bloom showed damage to the primary and secondary lamellae and increased numbers of mucus cells. To our knowledge this is the first report of a species of Chattonella in a salt lake.  相似文献

湖泊水华是全世界面临的严重生态环境问题之一,对人类和生态系统健康都有重大影响。由于湖泊水华受流域面源、点源污染、气候、水文因子以及湖泊生态系统自身特征等众多因素影响,水华是否爆发、其严重程度及时空分布特征呈现明显的复杂性。以我国太湖为研究区域,基于近年的水华及水环境的监测数据,用自组织特征映射神经网络对太湖不同监测点的水华程度进行了自动聚类分析。结果表明,太湖水华程度呈现为明显的无水华、轻度、中度和重度水华4类。不同程度水华的叶绿素a、水温、COD_(Mn)、营养盐、浮游植物生物量以及藻种(蓝藻、绿藻、硅藻)结构的时空差异显著,不同变量间的关系复杂,有助于深入认识太湖近年水华发生的时空变异特性。  相似文献

 To clarify the variations in environmental factors and biological characteristics of eutrophic, brackish, meromictic Lake Abashiri, Japan, we studied long-term variations in concentrations of chloride and nutrients in lake water and characteristics of their supply. This lake has an anoxic layer containing much chloride, nutrients, and sulfide. Although a dense Anabaena bloom appeared in the lake every summer before 1986, the bloom did not appear after upwelling from the bottom layer (a blue tide) occurred in spring 1987. A dense layer of photosynthetic bacteria (Chlorobium sp.) formed at the top of the anoxic layer from 1989 to May 1992. The concentrations of nutrients and chloride in the oxygenic layer were determined by the balance between nutrients from influent rivers, including dissolved inorganic nitrogen, and matter supplied from the anoxic layer, including chloride and dissolved inorganic phosphorus. These influences controlled the dominant phytoplankton species and their biomass. The appearance of an Anabaena bloom in Lake Abashiri is promoted by nitrogen limitation caused by decreased loading from influent rivers and/or by a stable supply of phosphorus from the anoxic layer (no formation of photosynthetic bacterial layer and small upwelling), but the appearance is inhibited by a high chloride ion concentration with large upwelling. The main reason for the formation of a photosynthetic bacterial layer from 1989 to May 1992 was that sunlight reached the top of the anoxic layer because of the increase in transparency due to inhibition of the Anabaena bloom with upwelling. The dense layer of photosynthetic bacteria blocked nutrient diffusion from the anoxic layer to the oxygenic layer by uptake, and decreased the biomass of phytoplankton in the oxygenic layer. Using a limnocorral study, Microcystis grazing by silver carp, bighead and tilapia was examined in an eutrophic shallow lake permanently infested with a Microcystis bloom. Twelve fingerlings of each fish species were introduced into the limnocorrals placed in the lake, in triplicate, and their grazing effects were examined over a period until the limnocorral bloom declined substantially and remained unchanged. Introduction of fish, regardless of species, into the limnocorrals resulted in sharp reductions (60–93%) of the initial Microcystis population on day 3 or 7. Maximum gross and net clearance of Microcystis were by silver carp followed by bighead and tilapia. Short-term high retention of Microcystis by tilapia indicated that the clearance effect did not last long due to a high rate of defaecation of undigested Microcystis . Nearly 6–180% nutrient enrichment of the limnocorrals was attributable to the defaecation of test fishes suggesting their ichthyoeutrophication potentials, which were in the following order: tilapia>bighead>silver carp. It is concluded that silver carp is most suitable for clearing Microcystis in the lake because of its minimal ichthyoeutrophication effect.  相似文献

Using a case study of Lake Chaohu, the fifth largest lake in China, we constructed a cusp model for water bloom prediction that used TP (total phosphorus), T (temperature), Chla (chlorophyll-a), and DO (dissolved oxygen). These four parameters were assumed to be the most important factors in eutrophication and water bloom of the lake. The model was found to be accurate, because its relative error was around 10%. What is more convincing, according to the catastrophe discriminant of the cusp model, it could be judged that a discontinuous jump of the aquatic ecosystem occurred in July 2004, in Lake Chaohu. This conclusion is consistent with the fact that water blooms arose in August 2004. The cusp model also showed satisfactory precision when applied to forecast the eutrophication trend and prediction of water bloom in Lake Chaohu in 2005. The case study found that water bloom brought on by eutrophication can be fit and predicted by a catastrophe model. We suggest that catastrophe models would be a constructive approach to forecast and judge the outbreak of water bloom in lakes. In addition, by constructing and studying such catastrophe models, lake managers would be able to simulate the effects of different protection and mitigation projects and enrich the scientific basis for the optimization of these projects as well.  相似文献

The intracellular levels of hot water extractable and total phosphorus were determined in the dinoflagellate Peridinium cinctum. f. westii (Lemm.) Lef. for natural samples from the bloom in Lake Kinneret and from laboratory cultures. Amounts of phosphorus (P) in the hot water fraction, relative to total cellular phosphorus, were similar in lake Peridinium and in cells grown in high ambient orthophosphate (Pi) media (3–6 mg P · l?1). The absolute amounts of hot water extractable P in natural cell and those cultured at lower Pi concentrations (0.02–0.05 mg P · 1?1) were similar, although average Pi in lake water were 4 μg · l?1. Under most growth conditions the hot water extract contained approximately equal amounts of molybdate reactive phosphorus (MRP) and non-MRP. Short chain (6–9 units) polyphosphates (mol wt 630–950) probably constituted the bulk of the non-MRP pool, which was hydrolysable by alkaline phosphatase and may serve as a precursor for a more permanent P store. Intracellular P levels and distribution were not directly dependent on external Pi concentrations but may be determined by the N:P atomic ratio or overall external ionic milieu. Peridinium grown in low ambient Pi released significant amounts of non-MRP compounds. In Lake Kinneret, for at least most of the bloom period, Peridinium does not appear to be limited by P supply.  相似文献

There was a heavy bloom of a nitrogen-fixing blue-green algaAnabaenopsis raciborskii Wolosz. in Lake Balaton in September-October1982. The authors studied the dynamics of the phyto- and bacterio-plankton of the lake by daily and weekly samplings. Some meteorologicalfactors were also considered. It could be concluded that thecauses of the bloom were accumulating nutrients being enrichedjust before the bloom-period suddenly washed into the lake byheavy rains, followed by windless warm days (water temperatures26–29°C). An expressed correlation between bacterio-and phytoplankton indicates their close trophic relationship.  相似文献
