Central Switzerland is a highly endemic region for tick-borne fever (TBF) in cattle, however, little is known about A. phagocytophilum in goats. In the present study, 72 animals from six goat flocks (373 EDTA blood-samples) in Central Switzerland were analysed for A. phagocytophilum DNA. A real-time PCR targeting the msp2 gene of A. phagocytophilum was performed and in positive samples the partial 165 rRNA, groEL and msp4 gene were amplified for sequence analysis. Four DNA extracts were positive. Different sequence types on basis of the amplified genes were found. For comparison, sequences of A. phagocytophilum from 12 cattle (originating from Switzerland and Southern Germany) were analysed. The 165 rRNA gene sequences from cattle were all identical amongst each other, but the groEL and msp4 gene differed depending on the origin of the cattle samples and differed from the variants from goats. This study clearly provides molecular evidence for the presence of different types of A. phagocytophilum in goat flocks in Switzerland, a fact which deserves more thorough attention in clinical studies.  相似文献

Tick-borne encephalitis is an important zoonosis in many parts of north-western, central and eastern Europe, Russia and the Far East, with considerable altitudinal and latitudinal shifts described during recent decades. The reported routes of transmission for TBE virus include the saliva-activated non-viraemic transmission between co-feeding ticks taking place on rodent hosts. During the period 2001–2014, a population of the yellow-necked mouse (Apodemus flavicollis), which is considered among the most efficient TBE competent host, especially in central and western Europe, was intensively live-trapped in a known TBE focus in the Province of Trento, Italy. Individual live-trapped mice were checked for the number and position of feeding ticks and serologically screened for TBEv antibodies. A combined effect of climatic conditions and density of both roe deer and mice on the number of co-feeding tick groups was observed. Specifically, the occurrence of co-feeding ticks on mice during the questing season was affected by autumnal cooling in the previous season. On the other hand, co-feeding occurrence was also positively associated with roe deer abundance, while mouse density showed a hump-shaped pattern. Individual features of A. flavicollis such as weight and sex also affected co-feeding occurrence with the heaviest (breeding adult) males carrying more co-feeding ticks. We also found that the overall number of co-feeding ticks on mice positively affected TBEv antibody detection in this species the following year. In conclusion, a specific combination of climatic conditions in conjunction with certain rodent and roe deer densities are the principal determinants of the number of co-feeding ticks on A. flavicollis and, consequently, TBEv circulation. These variables can be used to provide an early warning signal for a TBE hazard, thus representing a useful tool for Public Health authorities to prepare action for prevention and control within TBEv circulation areas.  相似文献

Over 40 cell lines are currently available from 13 ixodid and one argasid tick species. The successful isolation and propagation of several economically important tick-borne pathogens in tick cell lines has created a useful model to study interactions between tick cells and these viral and bacterial disease agents. Tick cell lines have already proved to be a useful tool in helping to define the complex nature of the host-vector-pathogen relationship. With the availability of genomics tools, tick cell lines will become increasingly important as a complement to tick and tick-borne disease research in vivo once genetic transformation and gene silencing using RNA interference become routine.  相似文献

The distribution of tick species able to infest ruminants in Italy is briefly reviewed on the basis of published records and new data obtained in several surveys carried out mainly in northern Italy. The most frequent and abundant tick species found on ruminants throughout Italy are Ixodes ricinus and Dermacentor marginatus, the first gradually replacing its association with sheep by the association with wild ruminants. Rhipicephalus bursa was mainly found on cattle while R. turanicus, which is considered one of the most sheep-associated species, was found only on wild boar. Haemaphysalis punctata, H. sulcata and H. parva are the other tick species quite frequently found on small ruminants when they are reared on pastures mainly in central-southern Italy. However, the land exploitation of these last decades has dramatically reduced the diversity of Italian environment and significantly modified the distribution and the abundance of ticks causing a heavy spread of the tick species characterized by a strong adaptability such as I. ricinus and R. sanguineus. If this trend continues, it is possible to hypothesise that few "resistant" tick species will gradually replace most of the others. This hypothesis seems to be confirmed by the high percentage observed for I. ricinus (57.4%) and R. sanguineus (35.73%) out of 8,712 specimens collected from several different hosts and from the environment.  相似文献

In Sicily many tick borne diseases are endemic, in particular way those that see like main carrier ticks that prefer, for their vital cycle, climatic conditions characterized by high temperatures and a warmth-humid atmosphere. The more important pathologies transmitted by ticks causing diseases in dogs are babesiosis and ehrlichiosis. Borrelia burgdorferi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Rickettsia conorii, Coxiella burnetii and tick transmitted encephalitis virus assume particular relevance because they are agents of zoonosis. Our centre, C.R.A.Ba.R.T, have conducted many researches and carried out many tests for diagnostic aim in order to estimate the spread of the main tick borne diseases in Sicilians' dogs. A study lead on 342 dogs has evidenced seroprevalence for Babesia canis, Ehrlichia canis and Rickettsia respective of 5.17%, 21.70% and 53.43%. A study on zoonotic agent seroprevalences in dogs gave the following percentages: C. burnetii 31.50%, R. conorii 73.60% and A. phagocytophilum 32.80%. The data carried out from IZS Sicily diagnostic service on 5,634 tests done in 2004-2005, confirm the experimental results on the presence of B. canis, E. canis, R. conorii, A. phagocytophilum, C. burnetii, Rickettsia spp., Anaplasma spp. and Ehrlichia spp. in all the Sicilian areas.  相似文献

The paper presents a systematic survey of some cestodes parasitizing freshwater fish in Italy. The following eight species were recorded: Monobothrium wageneri, Cyathocephalus truncatus, Triaenophorus nodulosus (plerocercoids and adults), Bothriocephalus acheilognathi, B. claviceps, Ligula intestinalis (plerocercoids), Schistocephalus sp. (plerocercoids) and Proteocephalus percae from Perca fluviatilis which is reported from freshwater fish in Italy for the first time. All the tapeworms recovered are described and figured.  相似文献

Equine infectious anaemia (EIA) is a disease with an almost worldwide distribution, with several outbreaks having been reported recently in European countries. In Italy, two regions, Lazio and Abruzzo, are considered as endemic areas for this disease. In nature, the EIA virus is mechanically transmitted by biting flies such as tabanids (Diptera: Tabanidae), although few studies have investigated the epidemiological implications. In the present study, several sites characterized by different levels of EIA prevalence were sampled. In sites with high tabanid populations, a seasonal succession of tabanid species with a dual‐peak corresponding to early active species (i.e. in June to July) and late active species (i.e. in August to September) was clearly observed. Moreover, a positive correlation was found between EIA prevalence and tabanid abundance and species richness, suggesting that tabanid diversity might extend the duration of the seasonal transmission period of EIA. Further observations are required to better assess how vector diversity influence EIA transmission.  相似文献

Biological and ecological aspects of Lake Garda carpione, Salmo carpio L. , are reported. This study reports lower catches and it is suggested that fewer carpione are now in this lake. Opercula and scales have been used for ageing fish and determining the growth rates. Life expectancy does not exceed five winters. Males became sexually active at 2 years (=winters) of age and females at 3 years of age, however, full spawning capability is achieved only in the following year. Our data confirm that carpione have two spawning seasons: winter (a long period) and summer (a shorter one). Carpione are not exclusively planktivorous but adapt their feeding habits to the environment and change the manner and time of their feeding.  相似文献

Dermacentor reticulatus is the second most important tick species in Poland. Although the north-eastern region of Poland is considered typical for D. reticulatus and is treated as a contiguous area of Eastern populations of the meadow ticks, the occurrence of this tick species in this region to date has been recorded as separate foci. The present report supplements data on the geographical distribution of D. reticulatus in urban and natural biotopes of north-eastern Poland (Warmia and Mazury province). In 2015–2017 (during the springtime activity of ticks) adult questing D. reticulatus were found in 13 of 25 monitored localities. Six sites are located in urbanized areas, within the administrative borders of the city of Olsztyn and seven sites are in natural biotopes in the central part of Warmia and Mazury. A total of 398 adult D. reticulatus ticks, including 257 females and 141 males, were collected. A comparison of data grouped according to urban and natural type of area revealed no statistical differences between them. Taking into account the habitat type, the mean tick density was the highest in open landscapes. The identification of new foci D. reticulatus in the endemic areas of Lyme borreliosis, tick-borne encephalitis and canine babesiosis is crucial for determining the risk of diseases transmitted by ticks and taking proper preventive measures.  相似文献

Observations carried out on an Acrocephalus community in north-western Italy during the breeding period have confirmed the occurrence of interspecific territoriality, with Acrocephalus arundinaceus aggressively dominant toward A. scirpaceus and A. palustris. The adaptive character of such an interspecific territoriality is discussed. Data seem to suggest that shifts in territories are also depending on interspecific interactions, even though intraspecific interactions have been confirmed to have the major weight in such a phenomenon. Great Reed Warbler territories resulted to be significantly larger than those of Marsh and Reed Warbler. It may be supposed that the Great Reed Warbler has larger territories as a consequence of its stronger aggressiveness.  相似文献

Saxifraga depressa grows only on the summits of eleven siliceous massives in the western Dolomites. It is restricted to the habitat of steep N-faced screes lying above 2000 m. Syntaxonomically, Saxifraga depressa characterizes the association Saxifragetum depressae which is here described for the first time with two subassociations. With respect to the closely allied Oxyrietum digynae, the Saxifragetum depressae colonizes debris richer in fine material. The soil pH in the habitats of the Saxifragetum depressae varies from acid to slightly basic, mainly as a result of lithological differences in the parent rocks. The habitats having a subneutral or basic soil are colonized by a well-defined subassociation of the Saxifragetum depressae, which is differentiated by some basiphilous species.  相似文献

Aspiration cytology of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in an endemic area   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Fine needle aspiration (FNA) plays a significant role in the diagnosis of thyroid lesions due to its simplicity and low cost. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the second most common thyroid lesion next to endemic goitre diagnosed on FNA in iodine (I2) deficient areas. Data on its incidence, prevalence and clinicopathological features in I2 deficient areas is scanty compared to I2 sufficient areas. In the present study the patients presented with HT a decade earlier than reported in I2 sufficient areas. Presentation as a nodular thyroid is common. Diagnosis of HT is likely to be missed in smears showing cytological evidence of hyperplasia or abundant colloid. HT was concurrent in 20 cases of endemic goitre. Careful screening for Hurthle cell change and lymphocytic infiltration into follicular cells should be carried out. In equivocal cases multiple punctures and immunological investigations are helpful. In antibody-negative cases repeat FNA at follow-up is useful. Marked lymphocytic infiltration and Hurthle cell change may indicate a hypothyroid state but hormonal levels are required for clinical management.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To throw light on cytologic findings as a possible mode of diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis. STUDY DESIGN: Filariasis has worldwide distribution, but lymphatic filariasis predominantly affects tropical and subtropical regions. Demonstration of microfilaremia, the specific test for diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis, often shows false negative results in endemic areas. The present study, done in an endemic area, showed the presence of microfilariae or adult worms of Wuchereria bancrofti in fine needle aspirates collected from amicrofilariaemic cases. In a few cases the discovery was incidental. A total 4,534 cases undergoing cytologic evaluation were carefully screened for the presence of adult worms or larvae, irrespective of clinical diagnosis. Microfilariae were demonstrated in both clinically suspected cases of filariasis and asymptomatic cases. RESULTS: A total of 1 positive cases were found; in 4 cases the clinical diagnosis was lymphatic filariasis, and 7 cases were asymptomatic. All 11 cases were amicrofilariaemic. CONCLUSION: Various sophisticated investigations are used for diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis without microfilaremia. Fine needle aspiration cytology, being a cheap, simple and easy procedure, may have some role in this field, but further detailed studies are needed before any final claim.  相似文献

Amblyomma sculptum (Ixodida: Ixodidae) Berlese, 1888, a member of the Amblyomma cajennense complex, is the major vector of Brazilian spotted fever (BSF) in southeastern Brazil. In this study, the genetic diversity of A. sculptum populations in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil, was investigated because genetic variability in tick populations may be related to vector competence. Samples of A. sculptum from 19 municipalities in 7 regions of RJ were subjected to DNA extraction, amplification and sequencing of D‐loop, cytochrome oxidase II and 12S rDNA mitochondrial genes. These sequences were used to map the genetic diversity of this tick. Amblyomma sculptum populations are genetically diverse in RJ, especially in the South Centre and Highland regions. Few unique haplotypes were observed in all populations, and the majority of genetic variation found was among ticks within each population. Phylogenetic reconstruction reinforced the assumption that all the haplotypes identified in RJ belong to A. sculptum. However, some RJ haplotypes are closer to A. sculptum from Argentina than to A. sculptum from elsewhere in Brazil. In RJ, A. sculptum has high genetic diversity, although little genetic differentiation. Observations also indicated a high level of gene flow among the studied populations and no evidence of population structure according to region in RJ.  相似文献

From January 1997 through July 1998, we examined stool samples from 327 domestic animals, including pigs, cattle, horses, goats, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chicken, ducks, turkeys, and pigeons in Leogane, Haiti, for the presence of Cyclospora cayetanensis infection. No coccidian oocysts morphologically compatible with C. cayetanensis were detected in any of the animal samples, despite their living in, or near, households with infected individuals. These results suggest that domestic animals are not reservoir hosts for C. cayetanensis and that in this endemic area, humans are the only natural host for this parasite.  相似文献
