Background
Enhanced processing of emotional stimuli after stress exposure is reported to be associated with stress-induced cortisol. Because enhanced emotional information processing could make cognitive emotion regulation more difficult, it was hypothesized that stress-induced cortisol would be associated with non-negative interpretation generation associated with the cognitive reappraisal processes. Methods
A total of 36 participants (Mean age?=?21.3 years, SD?=?1.8) watched video clips of depression-related stressful situations before and after the administration of a stress induction task. They were then asked to generate as many non-negative interpretations as possible to reduce the depressive mood. Saliva samples were obtained before and after the stress induction task to measure change in the cortisol level. Results
Participants were allocated post-hoc to either a responder (n?=?19) or non-responder group (n?=?17) based on the cortisol response to the stress induction task. The number of non-negative interpretations generated following the stress induction task was reduced only in the cortisol responders. The number of post-stress non-negative interpretations was fewer in the responder group when compared by sex, baseline cortisol level, and the number of pre-stress non-negative interpretations, statistically controlled. Conclusions
Although baseline cortisol and sex may have impacted the results, the results suggest that stress-induced cortisol is associated with difficulty in non-negative interpretation generation during the cognitive reappraisal process.2.
Background
Adenomyosis is a benign disease with elevated CA125 level.Case presentation
We report 3 cases with adenomyosis who developed ischemic stroke during menstruation. The levels of CA125, CA19–9, and D-dimer were elevated, which dropped markedly after the menstrual phase. The development of nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) and stenosis of the cerebral arteries associated with hypercoagulable state and the hyperviscosity nature of the mucinous protein may be the underlying mechanisms. Conclusion
Our report suggests that adenomyosis might be a risk factor for ischemic stroke in middle-aged patients.3.

Introduction
The fecal microbiota are relevant to the health and disease of many species. The importance of the fecal metabolome has more recently been appreciated, but our knowledge of the microbiota and metabolome at other sites along the gastrointestinal tract remains deficient. Objective
To analyze the gastrointestinal microbiota and metabolome of healthy domestic dogs at four anatomical sites. Methods
Samples of the duodenal, ileal, colonic, and rectal contents were collected from six adult dogs after humane euthanasia for an unrelated study. The microbiota were characterized using Illumina sequencing of 16S rRNA genes. The metabolome was characterized by mass spectrometry-based methods. Results
Prevalent phyla throughout the samples were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Fusobacteria, and Bacteroidetes, consistent with previous findings in dogs and other species. A total of 530 unique metabolites were detected; 199 of these were identified as previously named compounds, but 141 of them had at least one significantly different site-pair comparison. Noteworthy examples include relative concentrations of amino acids, which decreased from the small to large intestine; pyruvate, which peaked in the ileum; and several phenol-containing carboxylic acid compounds that increased in the large intestine. Conclusion
The microbiota and metabolome vary significantly at different sites along the canine gastrointestinal tract.4.

Background
Spontaneous urticaria is a common allergic skin condition affecting 0.5–1% of individuals and may burden on health care expenditure or may be associated with remarkable morbidity.Aim
In this study, we measured the effect of vitamin D supplementation in patients with a diagnosis of CSU. Furthermore, quality of life and cytokine changes were evaluated. Methods
The clinical trial was conducted on 20 patients with idiopathic chronic urticaria. Vitamin D was administered orally for 8 weeks and disease activity was measured pre- and post-treatment using USS and DLQI. On the other hand expressions of IL-17, IL-10, Foxp3, and TGF-β by Real-time RT-PCR were assessed. Results
USS questionnaire showed that severity of idiopathic urticaria after the intervention, which compared with the first day reached a significant 55% reduction. The DLQI quality of life questionnaire 2 months after treatment showed 55% improvement. Along with the significant improvement of clinical symptoms, use of vitamin D increase FOXP3 gene expression and downregulation of IL-10, TGF-B, and FOXP3, IL-17, but these changes were not statistically significant.Limitation
These might happen due to lack of enrolled population in the investigation. Conclusion
Vitamin D can be used along with standard medical care and it’s a safe and cost-effective method for the treatment of chronic urticaria with deficiency of vitamin D.6.

Introduction
Persons living with HIV (PLWH) are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events than uninfected persons. Current risk-stratification methods to define PLWH at highest risk for CVD events are lacking. Methods
Using tandem flow injection mass spectrometry, we quantified plasma levels of 60 metabolites in 24 matched pairs of PLWH [1:1 with and without known coronary artery disease (CAD)]. Metabolite levels were reduced to interpretable factors using principal components analysis. Results
Factors derived from short-chain dicarboxylacylcarnitines (SCDA) (p?=?0.08) and glutamine/valine (p?=?0.003) were elevated in CAD cases compared to controls. Conclusion
SCDAs and glutamine/valine may be valuable markers of cardiovascular risk among persons living with HIV in the future, pending validation in larger cohorts.7.

Objective
To investigate the application of the TEM-1 β-lactamase protein fragment complementation assay (PCA) in detecting weak and unstable protein–protein interactions as typically observed during chaperone-assisted protein folding in the periplasm of Escherichia coli. Results
The TEM-1 β-lactamase PCA system effectively captured the interactions of three pairs of chaperones and substrates. Moreover, the strength of the interactions can be quantitatively analyzed by comparing different levels of penicillin resistance, and the assay can be performed under 0.5% butanol, a stress condition thought to be physiologically relevant. Conclusions
The β-lactamase PCA system faithfully reports chaperone-substrate interactions in the bacterial cell envelope, and therefore this system has the potential to map the complex protein homeostasis network under a fluctuating environment.8.
Background
Clinical statement alone is not enough to predict the progression of disease. Instead, the gene expression profiles have been widely used to forecast clinical outcomes. Many genes related to survival have been identified, and recently miRNA expression signatures predicting patient survival have been also investigated for several cancers. However, miRNAs and their target genes associated with clinical outcomes have remained largely unexplored. Methods
Here, we demonstrate a survival analysis based on the regulatory relationships of miRNAs and their target genes. The patient survivals for the two major cancers, ovarian cancer and glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), are investigated through the integrated analysis of miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs. Results
We found that there is a larger survival difference between two patient groups with an inversely correlated expression profile of miRNA and mRNA. It supports the idea that signatures of miRNAs and their targets related to cancer progression can be detected via this approach. Conclusions
This integrated analysis can help to discover coordinated expression signatures of miRNAs and their target mRNAs that can be employed for therapeutics in human cancers.9.

Purpose
Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of long standing cholelithiasis. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively estimate the diagnostic and treatment methods applied in patients with Mirizzi syndrome.Materials and methods
Our experience with 27 cases with Mirizzi syndrome is presented. They were diagnosed either by imaging techniques, or during surgical operation. All of the patients were managed surgically. Results
8 patients were diagnosed preoperatively and the rest intraoperatively. Morbidity rate after surgery was 18,5%, and mortality rate was zero. The patients presented free of symptoms three months after surgery during the follow-up.Conclusion
Mirizzi syndrome is rarely diagnosed preoperatively and US proved inadequate for this purpose. Surgery is the only therapy and usually provides additionally definitive diagnosis.10.

Introduction
Data sharing is being increasingly required by journals and has been heralded as a solution to the ‘replication crisis’.Objectives
(i) Review data sharing policies of journals publishing the most metabolomics papers associated with open data and (ii) compare these journals’ policies to those that publish the most metabolomics papers. Methods
A PubMed search was used to identify metabolomics papers. Metabolomics data repositories were manually searched for linked publications. Results
Journals that support data sharing are not necessarily those with the most papers associated to open metabolomics data. Conclusion
Further efforts are required to improve data sharing in metabolomics.11.
Background
In recent years the visualization of biomagnetic measurement data by so-called pseudo current density maps or Hosaka-Cohen (HC) transformations became popular. Methods
The physical basis of these intuitive maps is clarified by means of analytically solvable problems. Results
Examples in magnetocardiography, magnetoencephalography and magnetoneurography demonstrate the usefulness of this method. Conclusion
Hardware realizations of the HC-transformation and some similar transformations are discussed which could advantageously support cross-platform comparability of biomagnetic measurements.12.

Background
Insects are renowned for their ability to survive anoxia. Anoxia tolerance may be enhanced during chilling through metabolic suppression.Aims
Here, the metabolomic response of insects to anoxia, both with and without chilling, for different durations (12–36 h) was examined to assess the potential cross-tolerance mechanisms. Results
Chilling during anoxia (cold anoxia) significantly improved survival relative to anoxia at warmer temperatures. Reduced intermediate metabolites and increased lactic acid, indicating a switch to anaerobic metabolism, were characteristic of larvae in anoxia. Conclusions
Anoxia tolerance was correlated survival improvements after cold anoxia were correlated with a reduction in anaerobic metabolism.13.

Background
Inflammatory conditions are involved in the pathophysiology of cancer. Recent findings have revealed that excessive salt and fat intake is involved in the development of severe inflammatory reactions. Methods
literature search was performed on various online databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar) regarding the roles of high salt and fat intake in the induction of inflammatory reactions and their roles in the etiopathogenesis of cancer. Results
The results indicate that high salt and fat intake can induce severe inflammatory conditions. However, various inflammatory conditions have been strongly linked to the development of cancer. Hence, high salt and fat intake might be involved in the pathogenesis of cancer progression via putative mechanisms related to inflammatory reactions. Conclusion
Reducing salt and fat intake may decrease the risk of cancer.15.

Introduction
Aqueous–methanol mixtures have successfully been applied to extract a broad range of metabolites from plant tissue. However, a certain amount of material remains insoluble. Objectives
To enlarge the metabolic compendium, two ionic liquids were selected to extract the methanol insoluble part of trunk from Betula pendula. Methods
The extracted compounds were analyzed by LC/MS and GC/MS.Results
The results show that 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (IL-Ac) predominantly resulted in fatty acids, whereas 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tosylate (IL-Tos) mostly yielded phenolic structures. Interestingly, bark yielded more ionic liquid soluble metabolites compared to interior wood. Conclusion
From this one can conclude that the application of ionic liquids may expand the metabolic snapshot.16.

Introduction
It is difficult to elucidate the metabolic and regulatory factors causing lipidome perturbations. Objectives
This work simplifies this process.Methods
A method has been developed to query an online holistic lipid metabolic network (of 7923 metabolites) to extract the pathways that connect the input list of lipids. Results
The output enables pathway visualisation and the querying of other databases to identify potential regulators. When used to a study a plasma lipidome dataset of polycystic ovary syndrome, 14 enzymes were identified, of which 3 are linked to ELAVL1—an mRNA stabiliser. Conclusion
This method provides a simplified approach to identifying potential regulators causing lipid-profile perturbations.17.

Objectives
To explore potential effects of recombinant human fibroblast growth factor 20 (rhFGF20) in the growth of cultured mouse vibrissal follicles. Results
The growth of cultured mouse vibrissal follicles was significantly induced by rhFGF20 in a dose dependent pattern in the in vitro vibrissal follicle organ culture model. However, too high concentration of rhFGF20 could inhibit the growth of vibrissal follicles. We further demonstrated that rhFGF20 stimulated the proliferation of hair matrix cells and activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Conclusions
The rhFGF20 might be a potential therapeutic agent to treat hair loss disorders.18.

Introduction
Exercise-associated metabolism in type 1 diabetes (T1D) remains under-studied due to the complex interplay between exogenous insulin, counter-regulatory hormones and insulin-sensitivity.Objective
To identify the metabolic differences induced by two exercise modalities in T1D using ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC–HRMS) based metabolomics. Methods
Twelve T1D adults performed intermittent high-intensity (IHE) and continuous-moderate-intensity (CONT) exercise. Serum samples were analysed by UHPLC–HRMS.Results
Metabolic profiling of IHE and CONT highlighted exercise-induced changes in purine and acylcarnitine metabolism. Conclusion
IHE may increase beta-oxidation through higher ATP-turnover. UHPLC–HRMS based metabolomics as a data-driven approach without an a priori hypothesis may help uncover distinctive metabolic effects during exercise in T1D.Clinical trial registration number is www.clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02068638.19.
