The effect of gibberellin on the hemp plant is described. Gibberellin-treated plants show greater number of fibers as compared to controls. The individual fibers are larger in diameter, more lignified and up to ten times as long as the fibers from the untreated plants. Economic potential of application of gibberellin to hemp and possibly other fiber-yielding crops is suggested.  相似文献

Hemp fibers are very interesting natural material for textile and technical applications now. Applying hemp fibers to the apparel sector requires improved quality fibers. In this paper, hemp fibers were modified with sodium hydroxide solutions (5% and 18% w/v), at room and boiling temperature, for different periods of time, and both under tension and slack, in order to partially extract noncellulosic substances, and separate the fiber bundles. The quality of hemp fibers was characterised by determining their chemical composition, fineness, mechanical and sorption properties. The modified hemp fibers were finer, with lower content of lignin, increased flexibility, and in some cases tensile properties were improved. An original method for evaluation of tensile properties of hemp fibers was developed.  相似文献

Strain Aureobasidium pullulans capable of utilizing hemicelluloses and xylan was cultivated on processed waste dialysis liquor from the production of viscose fibres, containing about 1.5% hemocelluloses. Basic conditions of biomass production were tested on a laboratory scale. The dialysis waste liquor adjusted with mineral acids to pH 4--5 and supplemented with 0.05% yeast autolyzate and 0.2% ammonium sulphate affords protein yields of about 0.8 g/l, corresponding to 4.0--4.5 g dry biomass. Biomass is isolated together with residual water-insoluble hemicelluloses which are not utilized by the microorganism. The total utilization of hemicelluloses attains about 70%.  相似文献

The variation of the contents in hexenuronic acids (HexA) and lignin in Eucalyptus kraft pulp during sequences with the laccase–mediator treatment with or without xylanase pretreatment was studied. The laccase–HBT system (HBT: 1-hydroxybenzotriazole) initially oxidized lignin alone but altered cellulose in the pulp as well after some time. Once all accessible lignin was removed, the system acted on HexA. As a result, the laccase–mediator treatment reduced the HexA content of the pulp, especially if a xylanase pretreatment was applied before. A previously unseen effect was observed here: HexA removal was found to depend on the laccase and HBT doses, but not on the reaction time. In addition, the xylanase pretreatment was found to strongly boost the effects of the laccase–HBT system by facilitating their access to HexA without affecting the lignin content.  相似文献

Decomposition of organosolve lignin in water/phenol solutions was studied in a 50 nL micro-reactor coupled with optical, Raman and infrared microscopies at temperatures up to 600 degrees C and water densities up to 1165 kg/m3. It was found that when phenol was used with {lignin+water} mixtures that a homogenous phase was formed that seemed to promote the decomposition of lignin into phenolic fragments by hydrolysis and pyrolysis. Phenol, along with the homogenous reaction conditions also inhibited re-polymerization of the phenolics and promoted oil formation. On the other hand, in the absence of phenol, lignin remained as a heterogeneous phase with water over the range of conditions studied. The homogeneous conditions and conditions for inhibiting char formation by phenol were elucidated and it was found that mixtures of phenol and lignin become homogeneous at 400-600 degrees C and high water densities of 428-683 kg/m3, corresponding to maximum pressures of 93 MPa. These results were further used to propose reaction paths.  相似文献

目的通过分析汉麻、亚麻和苎麻对须癣毛癣菌生长的影响,探讨麻类织物对浅部真菌的抑制作用。方法实验采用振荡法。将3种麻类织物分别与须癣毛癣菌混合培养,对照组为棉布组,3d后分别取培养液稀释5倍后涂布培养皿,计算各自的菌落数和抑菌率并进行统计分析。结果麻类织物组菌落数明显少于对照组棉布组(P<0.01),3种麻类织物对须癣毛癣菌的抑菌率均高于60%,但3种麻类织物的抑菌率之间无明显差异(P<0.01)。结论3种麻类织物均可显著抑制须癣毛癣菌的生长,麻类织物有可能用来预防由须癣毛癣菌引起的足癣、股癣等浅部真菌病。  相似文献

Removal and modification of southern red oak hemicelluloses and lignin in a 0.05%(w/v) sulfuric acid hydrolysis were investigated. The hydrolysis profile was to raise the reaction from room temperature to 150 degrees C for in 38 min and to extend the hydrolysis at 150 degrees C for 1 h. At the end of the hydrolysis, 25.5% of red oak components were dissolved, of which 58% was xylose and 17% lignin. As the hydrolysis proceeded from room temperature to 150 degrees C, a part of red oak xylan was removed to yield an oligomer fraction having maximal yield and average molecular weight of 3460 at 150 degrees C. This fraction and the bulk xylan extracted during the first 30 min at 150 degrees C were further degraded to give a lower molecular weight oligomer fraction, of which the yield and average molecular weight (2610) were highest at the end of the bulk removal of xylan. Red oak lignin, syringyl and guaiacyl units in particular, was increasingly removed with the progress of the hydrolysis. Lignin derivatives and a part of red oak extractives soluble in the hydrolysate were identified.  相似文献

The insertion of oat husk lignin onto chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) fibers was studied to increase fiber hydrophobicity. The pretreated pulp samples were subsequently used for preparation of handsheets for characterization. Treatment of CTMP with laccase in the presence of oat husk lignin resulted in a significant increase in hydrophobicity of the handsheet surface, as indicated by dynamic contact angle analysis. Water absorption time of 8 s was obtained with initial contact angle of 118°. Although the handsheet's brightness was reduced by 33%, tensile index was only subtly decreased. Neither laccase nor oat husk lignin alone gave much improved water absorption times. Therefore, handsheets made of laccase-treated pulp with and without oat husk lignin were further examined by XPS, which suggested that both laccase and oat husk lignin were inserted onto CTMP fibers. The oat husk lignin was distributed as heterogeneous aggregates on the handsheet surface whereas laccase was uniformly distributed. Evidence was obtained that the adsorbed laccase layer formed a noncovalent base for the insertion of oat husk lignin onto fiber surfaces.  相似文献

  • The seed coat of many species contains hydrophobic lignins, and in soil the action of microbial ligninases may contribute to release from dormancy. Laboratory use of ligninases to stimulate germination is promising because of the specific action on the seed coat, whereas chemical scarification agents may also corrode the embryo. We hypothesised that exposure of Anacamptis morio (Orchidaceae) seeds to fungal laccase would stimulate germination, and that the mechanism involves lignin degradation and increased imbibition.
  • Germination capacity in vitro was quantified with 1 U filter‐sterilised laccase added to agar medium following autoclaving, compared to a 10% bleach solution (standard bleach surface sterilisation/scarification method used in orchid seed sowing). Lignin degradation was quantified using an optical method (phloroglucinol‐HCl staining) combined with image analysis, following experimental pre‐treatments involving immersion in laccase solution, distilled water (negative control) or bleach (positive control). Water uptake after experimental treatments was quantified as the proportion of seeds exhibiting visible uptake of an aqueous fluorochrome under UV excitation.
  • Laccase stimulated a doubling of germination in vitro with respect to bleach surface sterilisation/scarification alone, from 23.7 to 49.8% (= 0.007). Laccase and bleach methods both significantly decreased the optical signal of phloroglucinol (for laccase, to 79.9 ± 1.3% of controls; anova : F = 10.333, = 0.002). Laccase resulted in a modest but highly significant (< 0.0001) increase in water uptake with respect to the control (11.7%; cf 99.4% for bleach).
  • Laccase scarification can stimulate germination of A. morio through a mechanism of targeted seed coat degradation. The results demonstrate the potential of this relatively non‐invasive enzymatic scarification technique.

Water uptake by roots: effects of water deficit   总被引:35,自引:0,他引:35  
The variable hydraulic conductivity of roots (Lp(r)) is explained in terms of a composite transport model. It is shown how the complex, composite anatomical structure of roots results in a composite transport of both water and solutes. In the model, the parallel apoplastic and cell-to-cell (symplastic and transcellular) pathways play an important role as well as the different tissues and structures arranged in series within the root cylinder (epidermis, exodermis, cortex, endodermis, stelar parenchyma). The roles of Casparian bands and suberin lamellae in the root's endo- and exodermis are discussed. Depending on the developmental state of these apoplastic barriers, the overall hydraulic resistance of roots is either more evenly distributed across the root cylinder (young unstressed roots) or is concentrated in certain layers (exo- and endodermis in older stressed roots). The reason for the variability of root Lp(r), is that hydraulic forces cause a dominating apoplastic flow of water around protoplasts, even in the endodermis and exodermis. In the absence of transpiration, water flow is osmotic in nature which causes a high resistance as water passes across many membranes on its passage across the root cylinder. The model allows for a high capability of roots to take up water in the presence of high rates of transpiration (high demands for water from the shoot). By contrast, the hydraulic conductance is low, when transpiration is switched off. Overall, this results in a non-linear relationship between water flow and forces (gradients of hydrostatic and osmotic pressure) which is otherwise hard to explain. The model allows for special root characteristics such as a high hydraulic conductivity (water permeability) in the presence of a low permeability of nutrient ions once taken up into the stele by active processes. Low root reflection coefficients are in line with the idea of some apoplastic bypasses for water within the root cylinder. According to the composite transport model, the switch from the hydraulic to the osmotic mode is purely physical. In the presence of heavily suberized roots, the apoplastic component of water flow may be too small. Under these conditions, a regulation of radial water flow by water channels dominates. Since water channels are under metabolic control, this component represents an 'active' element of regulation. Composite transport allows for an optimization of the water balance of the shoot in addition to the well-known phenomena involved in the regulation of water flow (gas exchange) across stomata. The model is employed to explain the responses of plants to water deficit and other stresses. During water deficit, the cohesion-tension mechanism of the ascent of sap in the xylem plays an important role. Results are summarized which prove the validity of the coehesion/tension theory. Effects of the stress hormone abscisic acid (ABA) are presented. They show that there is an apoplastic component of the flow of ABA in the root which contributes to the ABA signal in the xylem. On the other hand, (+)-cis-trans-ABA specifically affects both the cell level (water channel activity) and water flow driven by gradients in osmotic pressure at the root level which is in agreement with the composite transport model. Hydraulic water flow in the presence of gradients in hydrostatic pressure remains unchanged. The results agree with the composite transport model and resemble earlier findings of high salinity obtained for the cell (Lp) and root (Lp(r)) level. They are in line with known effects of nutrient deprivation on root Lp(r )and the diurnal rhythm of root Lp(r )recently found in roots of LOTUS.  相似文献

The effects of temporary removal of the alpha male on the behavior of subordinate adult male vervet monkeys were evaluated. Twelve subordinate males from six captive multimale, multifemale vervet monkey groups were observed in two conditions: when all group members were present and when the alpha male was temporarily removed from each group. In the absence of the alpha male, subordinate males initiated more affiliative behavior and increased the amount of time spent in proximity to females but their rates of aggression were unaltered. Increased affiliative behavior was selectively directed to high-ranking females and their offspring. Under removal conditions, subordinate male behavior did not resemble that of alpha males in intact conditions: they differed in their proximity to and affiliative behavior towards other group members. In the absence of the alpha male, females increased their aggression towards subordinate males. These observations suggest that the presence of alpha males strongly inhibits subordinate males' behavior. When the constraints of the alpha male's presence are removed, subordinate males rapidly engage in behavior that may enhance their likelihood of attaining high rank. In combination with prior studies, the data also indicate that the behaviors involved in the maintenance of high rank by alpha males differ from those subordinates use to acquire dominance. Finally the current study supports the view that aggression by female vervets may be highly influential in determining male ascendency to dominant rank.  相似文献

SUMMARY.
  • 1 Four lakes in central Florida each received a different weed control treatment consisting of herbicide and/or different stocking ratios of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella Val.).
  • 2 Submersed vegetation was eliminated by grass carp within 6 months In Lake Orienta and within 14 months in Clear Lake. Because Little Lake Fairview, treated with herbicide and a smaller stocking ratio of grass carp, retained abundant vegetation levels over the first two study years, grass carp which had been introduced initially were replaced with a greater number of fish at the beginning of the third year. Submersed vegetation was subsequently eliminated in this lake within LO months. Aquatic vegetation was reduced but not eliminated in Lake Mann which was treated with herbicide only.
  • 3 Where macrophytes were removed there tended to be increased bottom dissolved oxygen, higher and more stable total alkalinity values, increased turbidity, lowered transparency, higher specific conductivity and increased chlorophyll levels. Significant increases in pH were probably due to low water levels resulting from a severe drought rather than weed control. Low water also affected specific conductivity. Annual means for nutrients did not differ significantly between years in the four lakes.
