Phosphorus and nitrogen are the important eutrophication nutrients. They are removed in the anoxic/oxic reactor through simultaneous precipitation and biological nitrogen removal. The effect of alum a commonly used simultaneous precipitant on biological nitrification and denitrification are investigated in the present study. Simultaneous removal of phosphorus was carried out using the coagulant alum Al2(SO4)3·14H2O at 2.2 mol ratio. Before the start of simultaneous precipitation the nitrification rate of the A/O reactor was found to be 0.05 g N-NH4 +/g VSS/d. It starts to decrease with increase in coagulant dosage. The nitrification rate for alum dosage 97.13 mg/L was 0.38 g N- NH4 +/g VSS/d. There was no accumulation of nitrate in anoxic tank. The nitrogen removal efficiency of the reactor was affected and it fell from 88 to 78%. There was a slight decrease in effluent COD from 16∼20 mg/L to 8∼12 mg/L after the introduction of simultaneous precipitation into the reactor. The usage of alum as a simultaneous precipitant in the anoxic/oxic reactor was limited due to its inhibition on nitrification. Alum did not have any affect over denitrification process.  相似文献

A study on the influence of chemical dosing on biological phosphorus and nitrogen removal was carried out through batch experimental tests by lab-scale and a full-scale wastewater treatment plant (employing a typical anaerobic-anoxic-oxic treatment). Results indicated that the inhibition of aluminum salt on biological phosphorus release and uptake processes is significant, as well as the inhibition of aluminum salt on Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria (AOB) is dominantly observed in the nitrification process and is recoverability. The inhibition of iron salt in biological phosphorus and nitrogen removal is weak, and only the inhibition of iron salt on phosphorus release at anaerobic periods emerge under large dosing. Evidence shows persistent inhibition from the accumulation of chemical doses in sludge mass. Intermittent chemical dosing proves recommendable for simultaneous chemical phosphorus removal.  相似文献

During the hydraulic retention time (HRT) from 12 to 6 h, the production of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) decreased from 82 to 70 EPSmg volatile suspended solids (VSS) g-1 in an anoxic/oxic (A/O) reactor with zeolite carriers. Added zeolite could successfully control the EPS production by the formation of stable biofilm and the maintenance the lower chemical oxygen demand/ammonium (C/N) ratio on its surface.Revisions requested 20 July 2004; Revisions received 7 september 2004  相似文献

A modified, laboratory-scale, oxic/anoxic process with zeolite circulation achieved a high efficiency (97%) of nitrogen removal from synthetic wastewater. This process lowered the turbidity and the suspended solid concentration in the effluent. The zeolite was effective as a biomedium due to the formation of biofilm on the surface of zeolite and the continuous biological regeneration.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was the development of an alternative coagulant supply device intended to replace the conventional chemical dosing system used for phosphorus removal. Bench-scale, multi-stage, upflow anaerobic fixed bed reactors (UAFBRs) were packed with iron nuts and domestic wastewater was fed continuously to enhance microbially influenced corrosion under anaerobic conditions. Total iron concentration in the effluent varied between 7.8 and 13.0 mg/l over the 120-day testing period ensuring sustained corrosion of iron in the reactors. A hybrid process consisting of the UAFBRs and an anoxic/oxic (A/O) process was tested to investigate the removal efficiencies of organic substances, nitrogen and phosphorus from domestic wastewater. Two types of systems were operated in parallel with different return sludge ratios. One was the hybrid process and the other was the A/O process. In comparing the hybrid process with the A/O process with respect to phosphorus removal efficiency, the performance of the hybrid process was much better than that of the A/O process alone, since phosphate ions in wastewater combined with iron cations from UAFBR. Nitrogen removal efficiency of the hybrid process was lower than that of the A/O process because the chemical oxygen demand/total Kjeldal nitrogen ratio of influent to the anoxic and aeration tank was decreased as organics in the domestic wastewater were removed by the UAFBR.  相似文献

Although nitrite effect on enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) has been previously studied, very limited research has been undertaken about the effect of nitrite accumulation caused by nitritation on EBPR. This paper focused on nitrite effect from nitritation on EBPR in a sequencing batch reactor treating domestic wastewater. Results showed that nitrite of below 10 mg/L did not inhibit P-uptake and release; whereas EBPR deterioration was observed when nitrite accumulation reached 20 mg/L. Due to P-uptake prior to nitritation, nitrite of 20 mg/L has no effect on aerobic P-uptake. The main reason leading to EBPR deterioration was the competition of carbon source. Batch tests were conducted to investigate nitrite effect on anaerobic P-release. Under sufficient carbon source, nitrite of 30 mg/L had no impact on poly-β-hydroxyalkanoate (PHA) storage; contrarily, under insufficient carbon source, denitrifiers competing for carbon source with phosphorus accumulating organisms resulted in decrease of PHA synthesis and P-release.  相似文献

Laboratory scale anoxic/aerobic sequencing batch reactor (A/O SBR) was operated around 15 °C to evaluate the effect of anoxic/aerobic phase fraction (PF) on N2O emission. The ammonia removal exhibited a decrease trend with the increase of PF, while the highest total nitrogen removal was achieved at PF = 0.5. Almost all the N2O was emitted during the aerobic phase, despite of the PF value. However, the net emission of N2O was affected by PF. Under the premise of completely aerobic nitrification, the lowest N2O emission was achieved at PF = 0.5, with a N2O-N conversion rate of 9.8%. At lower PF (PF = 0.2), N2O emission was stimulated by residual nitrite caused by uncompleted denitrification during the anoxic phase. On the other hand, the exhaustion of the easily degradable carbon was the major cause for the high N2O emission at higher PF (PF = 0.5). The N2O emission increased with the decreasing temperature. The time-weighted N2O emission quantity at 15 °C was 2.9 times higher than that at 25 °C.  相似文献

A lab-scale sequencing batch reactor fed with real municipal wastewater was used to study nitrous oxide (N(2)O) emissions from simulated wastewater treatment processes. The experiments were performed under four different controlled conditions as follows: (1) fully aerobic, (2) anoxic-aerobic with high dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, (3) anoxic-aerobic with low DO concentration, and 4) intermittent aeration. The results indicated that N(2)O production can occur from both incomplete nitrification and incomplete denitrification. N(2)O production from denitrification was observed in both aerobic and anoxic phases. However, N(2)O production from aerobic conditions occurred only when both low DO concentrations and high nitrite concentration existed simultaneously. The magnitude of N(2) O produced via anoxic denitrification was lower than via oxic denitrification and required the presence of nitrite. Changes in DO, ammonium, and nitrite concentrations influenced the magnitude of N(2)O production through denitrification. The results also suggested that N(2)O can be produced from incomplete denitrification and then released to the atmosphere during aeration phase due to air stripping. Therefore, biological nitrogen removal systems should be optimized to promote complete nitrification and denitrification to minimize N(2)O emissions.  相似文献

A mathematical model based on the simulation software AQUASIM was developed to validate an anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic (AOA) process that enables simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal in a single reactor by adding external organic carbon to preclude excess aerobic phosphate uptake by polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) and provide phosphate for denitrifying PAOs (DNPAOs). Aerobic batch tests after anaerobic phosphate release with different chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentrations indicated that the effect of COD concentration on the phosphate uptake preclusion could be expressed by a simple formula. The reduction factor reflecting the formula, which retards the aerobic phosphate uptake in the presence of COD, was added to the process rates of aerobic polyphosphate storage and PAOs growth in the model. The improved model, which included the reduction factor, reasonably matched the experimental result regarding aerobic phosphate uptake behavior whereas the model without it did not; thus, the former precisely predicts the AOA process behavior.  相似文献

The goal of the study was to determine the effectiveness of nitrification and denitrification and the kinetics of ammonia removal from a mixture of wastewater and anaerobic sludge digester supernatant in an SBR at limited oxygen concentration. In addition, the COD removal efficiency and sludge production were assessed. In the SBR cycle alternating aerobic and anaerobic phases occurred; in the aeration phase the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration was below 0.7 mg O2/L. The low DO concentration did not inhibit ammonia oxidation-nitrification and the efficiency was ca. 96-98%. However, a relatively high COD concentration in the effluent was detected. The values of Km and Vmax, calculated from the Michaelis-Menten equation, were 43 mg N-NH4/L and 15.64 mg N-NH4/L h, respectively. Activated sludge production was almost stable (0.62-0.66 g MLVSS/g COD). A high net biomass production resulted from a low specific biomass decay rate of 0.0015 d−1.  相似文献

The feasibility of nitrite accumulation in a pilot-scale A/O (anoxic/oxic) nitrogen removal plant treating domestic wastewater was investigated at various dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations and pH levels. The results showed that the pH was not a useful operational parameter to realize nitrite accumulation. Significant nitrite accumulation was observed at the low DO concentration range of 0.3–0.8 mg/l and the maximum nitrite accumulation ratio of about 90% occurred at a DO concentration of 0.6 mg/l. This suggests a reduction of 22% in the oxygen consumption, and therefore a considerable saving in aeration. However, the nitrite accumulation was destroyed at the high DO concentration and the resumption was very slow. In addition, the average ammonia removal efficiency reached as high as 93% at the low DO level. Moreover, experimental results indicated that nitrogen could be removed by simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) via nitrite in the aerobic zones at the low DO concentration, with the efficiency of 6–12%.  相似文献

The effect of influent COD/N ratio on biological nitrogen removal (BNR) from high-strength ammonium industrial wastewater was investigated. Experiments were conducted in a modified Ludzack–Ettinger pilot-plant configuration for 365 days. Total nitrification of an influent concentration of 1200 mg NH4+–N l−1 was obtained in this period. Influent COD/N ratios between 0.71 and 3.4 g COD g N−1 were tested by varying the nitrogen loading rate (NLR) supplied to the pilot plant. An exponential decrease of nitrification rate was observed when the influent COD/N ratio increased.

The experimental COD/N ratio for denitrification was 7.1±0.8 g COD g N−1 while the stoichiometric ratio was 4.2 g COD g N−1. This difference is attributable to the oxidation of organic matter in the anoxic reactor with the oxygen of the internal recycle. The influence of influent COD/N ratio on the treatment of high-strength ammonium industrial wastewater can be quantified with these results. The influence of COD/N ratio should be one of the main parameters in the design of biological nitrogen removal processes in industrial wastewater treatment.

A laboratory-scale anaerobic–anoxic/nitrification sequencing batch reactor (A2N-SBR) fed with domestic wastewater was operated to examine the effect of varying ratios of influent COD/P, COD/TN and TN/P on the nutrient removal. With the increased COD/P, the phosphorus removals exhibited an upward trend. The influent TN/P ratios had a positive linear correlation with the phosphorus removal efficiencies, mainly because nitrates act as electron acceptors for the phosphorus uptake in the A2N-SBR. Moreover, it was found that lower COD/TN ratio, e.g. 3.5, did not significantly weaken the phosphorus removal, though the nitrogen removal first decreased greatly. The optimal phosphorus and nitrogen removals of 94% and 91%, respectively were achieved with influent COD/P and COD/TN ratios of 19.9 and 9.9, respectively. Additionally, a real-time control strategy for A2N-SBR can be undertaken based on some characteristic points of pH, redox potential (ORP) and dissolved oxygen (DO) profiles in order to obtain the optimum hydraulic retention time (HRT) and improve the operating reliability.  相似文献

A two-phase and three-phase predictive fluidization model based on the characteristics of a system such as media type and size, flow rates, and reactor cross sectional area was proposed to calculate bed expansion, solid, liquid and gas hold up and specific surface area (SSA) of the biofilm particles. The model was subsequently linked to 1d AQUIFAS APP software (Aquaregen) to model biological nutrient removal in two phase (anoxic) and three phase (aerobic) fluidized bed bioreactors. The credibility of the proposed model for biological nutrient removal was investigated using the experimental data from a Twin Circulating Fluidized Bed Bioreactors (TCFBBR) treating synthetic and municipal wastewater. The SSA of bio-particles and volume of the expanded bed were simulated as a function of operational parameters. Two-sided t-tests demonstrated that simulated SCOD, NH4-N, NO3-N, TN, VSS and biomass yields agreed with the experimental values at the 95% confidence level.  相似文献

The effect of the different carbon sources acetate, acetate/glucose or glucose on the enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process was studied by experiments under alternating anaerobic–aerobic conditions in one sequencing batch reactor for each carbon source. The glucose was consumed completely within the first 30 min of the anaerobic phase whereas acetate degradation was slow and incomplete. Phosphate was released independently of the carbon source during the whole anaerobic phase. The highest phosphate release (27 mg P l−1) and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) storage (20 mg C g−1 dry matter (DM)) during the anaerobic phase as well as the highest polyphosphate (poly-P) (8 mg P g−1 DM) and glycogen storage (17 mg C g−1 DM) during the aerobic phase were observed with acetate. In contrast to other investigations, glycogen storage did not increase with glucose as substrate but was significantly smaller than with acetate. The PHA composition was also influenced strongly by the carbon source. The polyhydroxyvalerate (PHV) portion of the PHA was maximal 17% for acetate and 82% for glucose. Due to the strong influence of the carbon source on the PHA concentration and composition, PHA storage seems to regulate mainly the phosphate release and uptake. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A novel anaerobic/aerobic/anoxic (AOA) process is proposed to realize denitrifying phosphorous removal in this study, and the characteristic of the AOA process is transferring part of the anaerobic mixed liquor to the post-anoxic zone for providing the carbon source needed for denitrification. The AOA process was operated for 3 months, and the average removal efficiencies of NH4+-N, TN and PO4(3-)-P were 93.0±3.1%, 70.3±2.9% and 87.3±11.8%, respectively. A mass balance analysis indicated that 0.49±0.02 g VSS(-1) d(-1) of PO4(3-)-P and 0.23±0.04 g VSS(-1) d(-1) of NO3--N were simultaneously removed in the anoxic zone, and it is speculated that denitrifying phosphorous removal occurred in the AOA process. Furthermore, 0.24±0.06 g VSS(-1) d(-1) of TN was removed in the aerobic zone via simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND). The results demonstrate that the multi-zone structure of the AOA process favors the enhancement of denitrifying phosphorous removal and SND for municipal wastewater treatment.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of internal recycling time mode and hydraulic retention time (HRT) on nutrient removal in the sequencing anoxic/anaerobic membrane bioreactor process. Denitrification and phosphorus release were reciprocally dependent on the anoxic/anaerobic time ratio (Ax/An). As Ax/An increased, nitrogen removal rate increased but phosphorus removal rate decreased. The increasing Ax/An provided the longer denitrification period so that the organic substrate were consumed more for denitrification rather than phosphorus release in the limited condition of readily biodegradable substrate. Decreasing HRT increased both nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiency because as HRT decreased, food-to-microorganism loading ratio increased and thus enhanced the biological capacity and activity of denitrifying bacteria. This could be verified from the observation mixed liquor suspended solids concentration and specific denitrification rate. The change of Ax/An and HRT affected phosphorus removal more than nitrogen removal due to the limitation of favourable carbon source for phosphorus accumulating organisms.  相似文献

To improve denitrification performance and effective degradation of organic pollutants from micro-polluted groundwater simultaneously, a novel three-dimensional (3D) bio-electrochemical reactor was developed, which introduced activated carbon into a traditional two-dimensional (2D) reactor as the third electrode. The static and dynamic characteristics of the reactor were investigated with special attentions paid to the performance comparison of these two reactors. In the 3D reactor both TOC and nitrate removal efficiency were greatly improved, and the formation of nitrite byproduct is considerably reduced, comparing with that of the 2D reactor. The role of activated carbon biofilm was explored and possible remediation mechanisms for the 2D and 3D reactors were suggested. In such a 3D reactor, the denitrification rate improved greatly to 0.288 mg NO3–N/cm2/d and the current efficiency could reach as high as 285%. Further, it demonstrated good performance stably against variable conditions, indicating very promising in application for groundwater remediation.  相似文献
