The effects of exposure to various degrees of heat stress on serum glutamate—oxaloacetate transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALK-P-ase), calcium and chlorides have been studied on 75 dogs. Rectal temperature (Tre) was recorded before and after exposure to heat stress. These dogs were divided into 5 groups, according to the Tre level attained after exposure to heat stress. Rectal temperature was raised from normal to 39.45±0.47C in the first group, to 40.93±0.17C in the second group, to 41.87±0.22C in the third group, to 42.90 ± 0.21C in the fourth group and to 43.93±0.19C in the fifth group. The concentration of enzymes SGOT, SGPT and ALK-P-ase in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) increased significantly with hyperthermia. Calcium and chlorides concentrations in blood and in CSF tended to increase in hyperthermia. The integrity of the blood brain barrier for these enzymes and calcium is maintained under mild hyperthermia but it breaks down partially under influence of more severe hyperthermia. Core temperature above 41C results in damage to tissues and consequential rise of plasma enzymes. This degree of hyperthermia also seems to mark the beginning of injury to blood brain barrier. Critical core temperature tolerated by 50% of animals was 44C.  相似文献

Summary The localization and regional distribution of insulin-like immunoreactivity (IRI) was studied in human brain autopsy material using the indirect immunofluorescence technique. A positive reaction for IRI could be observed in many neurons of the hypothalamus, the hippocampus, corpus amygdaloideum, medulla oblongata (especially within the nuclei of cranial nerves IX, X and XII), and the cerebral cortex, whereas the cerebellar cortex was lacking in immunohistochemically detectable insulin-like material. No nerve fibres containing polypeptides could be revealed. Additionally, the inuslin content of various brain regions was estimated by radioimmunosassay. Respiratory chain phosphorylation has been investigated in the methylotrophic bacterium Methylophilus methylotrophus following the addition of oxidisable substrates to aerobic, whole cell suspensions. Initial-rate experiments showed that ATP synthesis occurred at the overall expense of AMP and inorganic phosphate via the sequential action of the ATP phosphohydrolase and adenylate kinase; some of the nascent ATP was rapidly used to synthesis nonadenine nucleoside triphosphates. After being corrected for ATP turnover, Pi/O quotients of 0.46 to 0.54, 0.77 and 1.37 nmol/ng-atom O were obtained for the oxidation of methanol dehydrogenase-linked substrates (methanol, ethanol and acetaldehyde), duroquinol and formate (NAD+-linked) respectively. These values were proportional to the H+/O and/or K+/O quotients exhibited by these substrates, and yielded an average H+/ATP (H+/Pi) quotient of 4.2 ng-ion H+/nmol. Steady-state experiments showed that the extent of cellular energisation varied with the respiration rate but was always in the order methanol > duroquinol > acetaldehyde, thus indicating that under these longer-term conditions methanol was completely oxidised to yield PQQH2 and 2NAD(P)H. Through use of the high-resolution double-focusing mass spectrometer, copper has been identified in various regions of the mouse, rat, guinea pig, rabbit, and human brain. The procedure depends on converting the copper (in ashed tissue) to its chloride salt, followed by derivatization with tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) to yield a TPP chelate. After chromatographic separation, this chelate is assessed in the mass spectrometer by the integrated-ion-current procedure. Deuterated metal TPP chelates and the rare stable isotope65Cu were used as internal standards. Whole brain values obtained were as follows: mouse, 6.67±0.16 (mean±SEM) g/g wet weight of tissue; rat, 1.06±0.05; guinea pig, 5.40±0.63; and rabbit, 7.52±0.76. In the rat, the cerebellum contained the highest concentration (1.25 g/g), and the striatum the lowest (0.70 g/g). In the human brain, the cortex (gray) and the striatum were relatively the highest copper-containing regions, with the cerebellum (white) being the lowest.  相似文献

The leaf base vascularization in most of theRubiaceae corresponds to the unilacunar pattern with one complex trace. Only some species are known to have a trilacunar nodal pattern with three traces. In the unilacunar type one pair of smaller bundles separates from the complex lacunary leaf trace laterally, each soon forking into two arms: One arm becomes a marginal vein of the petiole, the other, besides supplying the stipules, forms a ± distinct vascular bridge within the cortex of the nodal flanks. In theRubieae this flank bridge develops as a very distinct vascular ring commissure out of which the whorled leaf-like appendages are vascularized; only the opposite true leaves receive their complex trace out of the lacunes directly. Axillary branches originate only from these true leaves.

The present study was conducted to evaluate a statement in ancient yoga texts that suggests that a combination of both calming and stimulating measures may be especially helpful in reaching a state of mental equilibrium. Two yoga practices, one combining calming and stimulating measures (cyclic meditation) and the other, a calming technique (shavasan), were compared. The oxygen consumption, breath rate, and breath volume of 40 male volunteers (group mean ± SD, 27.0 ± 5.7 years) were assessed before and after sessions of cyclic meditation (CM) and before and after sessions of shavasan (SH). The 2 sessions (CM, SH) were 1 day apart. Cyclic meditation includes the practice of yoga postures interspersed with periods of supine relaxation. During SH the subject lies in a supine position throughout the practice. There was a significant decrease in the amount of oxygen consumed and in breath rate and an increase in breath volume after both types of sessions (2-factor ANOVA, paired t test). However, the magnitude of change on all 3 measures was greater after CM: (1) Oxygen consumption decreased 32.1% after CM compared with 10.1% after SH; (2) breath rate decreased 18.0% after CM and 15.2% after SH; and (3) breath volume increased 28.8% after CM and 15.9% after SH. These results support the idea that a combination of yoga postures interspersed with relaxation reduces arousal more than relaxation alone does.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung In zunehmendem Maße werden anisoploideBeta-Rübensorten angebaut, deren zytologische Kontrolle zwecks Feststellung der Genomstufenprozentanteile recht arbeitszeitaufwendig ist. Übereinstimmend mit polnischen Autoren wurde festgestellt, daß die Hypokotylfarbe ein geeigneter Markierungsfaktor für die einzelnen Genomstufen darstellt. Kreuzt man tetraploide Pflanzen, die ein grünes Hypokotyl besitzen, mit diploiden Pflanzen, die ein rosa Hypokotyl aufweisen, so erhält man von dem tetraploiden Partner tetraploide grüne und triploide hellbraune, von dem diploiden Partner diploide rosa und triploide hellbraune Nachkommenschaften. Die in bezug auf die Hypokotylfarbe heterozygoten Pflanzen kann man demnach von den homozygot grünen und homozygot rosa Individuen unterscheiden. Die Kreuzung diploid grünxtetraploid rosa ist für diese Zwecke nicht brauchbar, da sich die triploiden Heterozygoten mit einem grünen und zwei rosa Allelen in der Hypokotylfarbe nicht deutlich von den homozygoten rosa Pflanzen abheben. Auf die Bedeutung dieser Markierungsmöglichkeit für bestimmte Forschungsprobleme, die Züchtung und die Saatgutkontrolle wird hingewiesen.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Der Verlauf des Nahrungsflusses im Darmtrakt der Kleinzikade Euscelidius variegatus wird nach Verfütterung von farbstoffhaltiger Nährlösung ermittelt. Es wird der Beweis erbracht, daß die aufgenommene Nahrungsmenge in der Filterkammer geteilt wird und die beiden Anteile den Darmtrakt auf zwei verschiedenen Wegen in Richtung Rektalblase passieren. Ein Anteil der aufgenommenen Nährlösung wird über einen Kurzschlußweg in der Filterkammer sowohl über den Filterkammerdarm als auch über die Kryptonephridien direkt in den Enddarm gepumpt, während die in der Magentasche der Filterkammer verbleibenden Nahrungsanteile über einen langen Verdauungsweg zum After gelangen. Hierbei wird der Magentascheninhalt in den Magen gedrückt. Von dort aus passiert er den Mitteldarm und erreicht über den Enddarm den After. Der Kurzschlußweg und der Verdauungsweg können gleichzeitig benutzt werden. Der Kurzschlußweg wird von der Nahrung jedoch in viel kürzerer Zeit durchströmt als der längere Verdauungsweg.

Summary The leafhopper Euscelidius variegatus is fed with synthetic food, coloured with 1% Azorubin-S. Its flow in the alimentary tract has been studied. It has been found that the sucked-in food is divided into two parts in the filter chamber, each taking different way in the alimentary tract for its flow. One part of the food is pumped into the hindgut via the short circuit way going through the filter chamber once over the Filterkammerdarm and also over the kryptonephries. That part of the food, which remains in the pocket of the filter chamber takes the long digestion way to the anus over stomach, midgut and hindgut. Both the ways could be used at the same time. But the food takes much shorter time for its passage through the short circuit way as compared to the time needed for the long digestion way.

In this study, we investigated tissue levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and carnitine as well as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS, as a marker of lipid peroxidation) levels in bladder carcinoma and control group of patients. The average GSH, carnitine and TBARS levels for tumor group were respectively 7.11 ± 3.3 g/mg protein, 1.81 ± 0.39 nmol/mg protein, and 4.29 ± 3.2 mol/mg protein, versus 14.45 ± 4.11 g/mg protein, 2.14 ± 0.66 nmol/mg protein, and 2.3 ± 0.6 mol/mg protein for normal bladder tissues. Thus, tissue reduced glutathione levels (GSH) were significantly lower in patients as compared with the control group (p < 0.001) whereas average TBARS levels in the tumor group were found to be higher than those in control group. The average tissue carnitine levels in the patient group were found to be lower compared with the control group but the difference was not statistically significant (p > 0.05).  相似文献

Résumé G. mellonella infestée au dernier stade larvaire avec 1, 2, 3 ou 5 planidia/hôte (ph/H) produit 1 à 5 pupes/hôte (pu/H). La mortalité des chenilles augmente avec le nombre de pl/H. Le poids des pupes et décroît avec un nombre croissant de pu/H (18,2 à 12,9 mg pour les et 12,5 à 9,7 mg pour les ). Le développement larvaire dure 8,7 j. chez les et 8,3 chez les ; il est peu affecté par le superparasitisme. Avec 1, 2, 3 et 5 pl/H nous obtenons 0,84–1,61–2,17 et 3,43 pu/H et 0,81–1,48–2,10 et 3,11 imagos/H. L'optimum est de 3 pl/H ou 1 à 2=pl/H pour obtenir des parasitoïdes plus lourds.
Summary The influence of superparasitism on larval and pupal development is investigated. Last-larval instar G. mellonella (200±5 mg) were infected with 1, 2, 3 or 5 planidia/host (pl/H) producing 1 to 5 pupae per host (pu/H). Host mortality (8.6–8.3–14.3 and 22.2%) increased with the number of planidia. The planidia may transmit a bacteriosis. Pupal weight ( and ) decreased as number of pu/H increased. pupae were heavier than ones: 12.9 to 18.2 mg for against 9.7 to 12.5 mg for . Larval development lasted slightly longer for (8.7 d.) than for (8.3 d.), and its duration was little affected by superparasitism. 1, 2, 3 or 5 pl/H yielded 0.84–1.61–2.17 and 3.43 pu/H and 0.81–1.48–2.10 and 3.11 adults/H. An optimum was obtained with 3 planidia of L. diatraeae on G. mellonella or 1 to 2 to obtain heavier parasitoids.

Piperidine is actively transported into the synaptosomal fraction of adult mouse brain. The transport mechanism appears to be Na+ independent but is temperature dependent and sensitive to ouabain. Analysis of kinetic experiments indicates only a low-affinity transport system to be present. By contrast the uptake ofD,L-[3H]pipecolic acid at a concentration of 4×10–7 M was temperature and Na+ dependent, ouabain sensitive, and revealed a two-component system with aK m =3.9±0.17×10–6 M,V max=129±6 pmol/mg protein/3 min for the high-affinity system and aK m =90.2±4.3×10–6 M,V max=2.45±0.19 nmol/mg protein/3 min for the low-affinity system. Compounds structurally related to pipecolic acid such as glycine,l-proline, 4-amino-n-butyric acid, and 5-amino-n-valeric acid showed an inhibitory effect on uptake at a concentration of 10–4 M. The demonstration of biosynthesis of pipecolic acid in mouse brain and the presence of a high-affinity sodium-dependent uptake system suggest a physiological role of this substance in the central nervous system.  相似文献

Summary In biomedical studies, dyes are divided into acid and basic dyes. This classification cannot be reconciled with current chemical definitions of acids and bases. Brönsted-Lowry acids are compounds that can donate protons; bases are proton acceptors. The definition of acids and bases is independent of the electric charge, i.e. acids and bases can be neutral, anionic or cationic. Reactions between acids and bases result in formation of new acid-base pairs. Lewis acids and bases do not depend on a particular element, but are characterized by their electronic configurations. Lewis bases are electron donors; Lewis acids are electron acceptors. This classification is also unrelated to the electric charge. Lewis acids and bases interact by formation of coordinate covalent bonds.In histochemistry and histology, dyes containing SO 3 , –COO and/or –O groups are classified as acid dyes. However, such compounds are electron pair donors and hence Brönsted-Lowry and Lewis anionic bases. Dyes carrying a positive charge are termed basic dyes. Chemically, many cationic dyes are Lewis acids because they can add a base, e.g. OH, acetate, halides. The hypothesis that transformation of –NH2 into ammonium groups imparts basic properties to dyes is untenable; ammonium groups are proton donors and hence acids. Furthermore, conversion of an amino into an ammonium group blocks a lone electron pair and the color of the dye changes drastically, e.g. from violet to green and yellow. It appears therefore highly unlikely that ammonium groups are responsible for binding of cationic (basic) dyes. In histochemistry, it is usually not of critical importance whether anionic or cationic dyes are chemically acids or bases. It is therefore suggested to substitute the terms anionic for acid and cationic for basic dyes; this nomenclature will always be chemically correct.  相似文献

Neurosteroids are endogenous Central Nervous System (CNS) compounds which act mainly by allosteric modulation of the GABAA receptor complex. The presence of a 3-hydroxyl group and a 5-hydrogen atom have been found to be essential structural requirements for biological activity in mammals. In the present work we report the enhancing activity on [3H]GABA binding to its receptor sites in chick optic lobe produced by progesterone metabolites 3-hydroxy,5-pregnan-20-one (3,5-P) and 3-hydroxy,5-pregnan-20-one (3,5-P). Both steroids were found able to enhance [3H]GABA binding along ontogeny, displaying a similar profile at early developmental stages, while in adulthood 3,5-P had greater potency (EC50 0.22 M) and enhancing effect (Emax: 122%). In adult synaptic membranes, the two compounds displayed a complex interaction with the GABAA receptor, disclosed by a Schild plot with slope below one and an incomplete displacement of 3,5-P by its 3,5 isomer. Such complexity could be related to the steroidogenic profile in avian CNS, with 5-reduced progesterone metabolites present since early development, while 3,5-P is found only in adulthood. Bearing in mind differences between avian and mammalian steroidogenic profiles and the relevance of 5-steroids in early avian development, we propose that 3,5-P, instead of the classical potent 3,5-steroids, may be the endogenous modulator of GABAergic activity in developing avian brain.  相似文献

Summary The histochemical activities of succinic dehydrogenase (SDH), myofibrillar Adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) and alpha glycerophosphate dehydrogenase were studied in serial sections of rat vastus lateralis (red) (RVL), gastrocnemius and diaphragm muscles. Three main fibre-types were distinguished. The Type I fibres of RVL and gastrocnemius muscles fell into two distinct groups: one category-Type IA showed very low ATPase activity. The second category of Type IB fibres displayed moderate ATPase reaction. The Type IA fibres were divisible into two sub-groups when tested for SDH reaction. Type IA1 fibres possessed a homogenous distribution of diformazan·granules throughout the fibre: Type IA2 fibres displayed characteristic moth-eaten pattern of diformazan localization. The diaphragm muscle did not show either Type IB or Type IA2 varieties. The great majority of Type I fibres were sub-type IA1 in the three fast muscles studied. It is also demonstrated here that an inherent heterogeneity exists between Type I fibres of diaphragm and leg muscles in regard to -GPD localization. This histochemical data emphasizes the fact that subdivision of Type I striated muscle fibres of mammalian animals into two sub-types is only approximate and that a further subcategorization is possible.  相似文献

Stable isotope ratio as a tracer of mangrove carbon in Malaysian ecosystems   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
Summary The ratio of stable carbon isotopes (13C) in plants and animals from Malaysian mangrove swamps, coastal inlets, and offshore waters was determined. Vascular plants of the swamps were isotopically distinct ( x±s.d.=-27.1±1.2) from plankton (-21.0±0.3) and other algae (-18.7±2.2). Animals from the swamps (-20.9±4.1) and inlets (-19.8±2.5) had a wide range of isotope ratios (-28.6 to-15.4), indicating consumption of both mangrove and algal carbon. Several commercially important species of bivalves, shrimp, crabs, and fish obtained carbon from mangrove trees. Mangrove carbon was carried offshore as detritus and was isotopically distinguishable in suspended particulate matter and sediments. Animals collected from 2 to 18 km offshore, however, showed no isotopic evidence of mangrove carbon assimilation, with ratios (-16.5±1.1, range-19.1 to-13.1) virtually identical to those reported for similar animals from other plankton-based ecosystems. Within groups of animals, isotope ratios reflected intergencric and interspecific differences in feeding and trophic position. In particular, there was a trend to less negative ratios with increasing trophic level.  相似文献

This study reports a novel splice variant form of the voltage-dependent calcium channel 2 subunit (2g). This variant is composed of the conserved amino-terminal sequences of the 2a subunit, but lacks the -subunit interaction domain (BID), which is thought essential for interactions with the 1 subunit. Gene structure analysis revealed that this gene was composed of 13 translated exons spread over 107 kb of the genome. The gene structure of the 2 subunit was similar in exon-intron organization to the murine 3 and human 4 subunits. Electrophysiological evaluation revealed that 2a and 2g affected channel properties in different ways. The 2a subunit increased the peak amplitude, but failed to increase channel inactivation, while 2g had no significant effects on either the peak current amplitude or channel inactivation. Other subunits, such as 3 and 4, significantly increased the peak current and accelerated current inactivation.  相似文献

Stable isotopes (13C, D) and radiocarbon weremeasured in methane bubbles emitted from rice paddies and swamps in southernThailand. Methane emitted from the Thai rice paddies was enriched in13C (mean 13C; –51.5 ±7.1 and–56.5 ± 4.6 for mineral soil and peat soil paddies,respectively)relative to the reported mean value of methane from temperate rice paddies(– 63 ± 5). Large seasonal variation was observed in13C(32) in the rice paddies, whereas variationinD was much more smaller (20), indicating that variation in13C is due mainly to changes in methane production pathways.Values of 13C were lower in swamps (–66.1 ±5.1)than in rice paddies. The calculated contribution of acetate fermentation from13C value was greater in rice paddies (mineral soils:62–81%, peat soils: 57–73%) than in swamps (27–42%). Din methane from Thai rice paddies (–324± 7 (n=46)) isrelativelyhigher than those from 14 stations in Japanese rice paddies ranging from–362 ± 5 (Mito: n=2) to –322 ± 8(Okinawa: n=3), due tohigher D in floodwaters. 14C content in methane produced fromThai rice paddies (127±1 pMC) show higher 14Cactivity compared with previous work in paddy fields and those from Thai swamps(110±2 pMC).  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Die vegetativen Teile der Kartoffelsorte Sieglinde haben neben den mehrgliedrigen Deckhaaren noch zwei Arten köpfchenförmiger Drüsenhaare: 1. Mehrzellige, keulen- oder verkehrt birnenförmige Haare mit je einem Eiweißkristall in jeder Köpfchenzelle und 2. Vierzellige, rundliche, bis ellipsoidische, sezernierende Haare mit einem exkreterfüllten zentralen Interzellularraum und Chlorophyllkörnern in den Köpfchenzellen.Während bei ersteren das vielzellige Köpfchen nur auf einem einzelligen Stiel sitzt, ist bei letzteren zwischen dem vierzelligen Köpfchen und dem einzelligen Stiel noch eine Halszelle eingefügt, die entwicklungsgeschichtlich dem Köpfchen zugehört.Eine Unterscheidung der beiden Drüsenhaarformen wird erst nach dem zweiten Teilungsschritt möglich.Die Verteilung der beiden Formen auf Blattober- und Blattunterseite ist verschieden.Die exkretführenden Drüsenhaare zeigen schon frühzeitig, gleich nach Ausbildung des Vierzellenstadiums, bevor noch der zentrale Interzellularraum oder ein Exkret in Erscheinung tritt, sowohl in den Köpfchenzellen als auch in der Halszelle eine netzartige Plasmakonfiguration; die Stielzelle zeigt diese Erscheinung nicht.Das Verhalten des Exkretes gegenüber verschiedenen chemischen Agentien wurde untersucht und das Vorhandensein von ätherischem Öl und einer andersartigen Trägersubstanz als wahrscheinlich angenommen.  相似文献

The pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6 have been shown to be upregulated in the myocardium after injury and after adrenergic receptor stimulation. Together with other cytokines, such as the transforming growth factor (TGF)-, the pro-inflammatory cytokines have been implicated in the initiation of tissue repair and wound healing after myocardial infarction (MI). In the present study, the effect of -adrenergic receptor blockade with propranolol (2 mg/kg·h s.c. by miniosmotic pumps) on cardiac cytokine expression and on wound healing was analyzed in rats from 6–72 h after MI. IL-1 and IL-6 gene expression strongly increased in the infarcted myocardium 6 h after MI and peaked after 12 h, while TGF-, progressively increased from 12 h onwards. Also, TGF-2 increased after 12 h, peaked after 24 h and declined thereafter, while TGF-, was only elevated after 72 h. Treatment with propranolol had a negative chronotropic effect throughout the observation period of 72 h. It attenuated the initial elevation in LVEDP and increased cardiac output ultimately. Furthermore, propranolol attenuated IL-1 mRNA expression, but had not effect on the other cytokines.
