The diet self-regulation ability of goats during late lactation has been studied with regard to their production level. Two groups of seven Girgentana goats producing 1100 ± 157 g/day (H group) and 613 ± 138 g/day (L group) were housed in individual pens and were given alfalfa pelleted hay (1.5 kg), whole grains of maize (0.5 kg), barley (0.5 kg), faba bean (0.5 kg) and pelleted sunflower cake (0.5 kg) on a daily basis. During a 7-day pre-experimental period, goats received a mixed ration based on the same feeds used during the experimental period (1.5 kg of hay and 0.4 kg of each concentrate). Individual choice of feeds was continuously recorded for 7 days using a 24-h IR video surveillance system equipped with four video cameras. The nutrient intake in both groups was much higher than needed. Goats in the H group ate more (2016.3 v. 1744.3 g dry matter (DM)/day) and selected less hay (26.9% v. 34.6% DM), more high-protein feeds (faba bean and sunflower cake: 14.0% and 15.9% v. 8.8% and 7.9% DM, respectively) and less maize (21.5% v. 25.0% DM), reaching a higher CP concentration in the diet (17.3% v. 15.0% DM) compared with the goats in the L group. During the 24-h trial period, hay was more constantly selected (on average never reaching <20% of the total hourly basis feeding time, apart from the first hour after feed administration) compared with concentrate feeds. This feeding behaviour has probably exercised a ‘curative’ effect that enabled the goats to continue to take in very high levels of starch and protein, without manifesting any symptom of metabolic disease. Shifting goats from the pre-experimental diet, based on a mixture of the same feeds used during the experimental period, to the free-choice feeding caused more than 20% increase in milk production in both groups. From the results of the intake, we are unable to conclude that the goats can select their diet to meet their requirements, as goats consumed much more than needed. However, when free to choose their diet, the animals improved milk performance, despite the late-lactation stage.  相似文献

Uptake of free fatty acids (FFA), triglycerides (TG), cholesterol (CHOL) and phospholipids (PL) was measured in both mammary glands of dairy goats during lactation. Arterial concentrations of TG, CHOL and PL as well as arterio-venous difference (AV) and extraction rate (E) for TG were highest in goats with the highest dietary feed intake. AV were linearly related to arterial concentrations for the four lipid classes, and arterial concentrations of CHOL were linearly related to output of lactose, protein and fat in milk. Arterial supply, and not mammary synthetic activity, is the main determinant of mammary FFA, TG and CHOL uptake.  相似文献

Machine milk (MM), machine stripping milk (MSM), residual milk (RM), and milk protein and fat content were recorded during the second lactation in 49 Tinerfeña goats milked once (X1) and twice (X2) a day. MM, MSM and RM percentages were 67.7% and 62.4%, 20.2% and 30.2%, 12.1% and 7.4% in X1 and X2, respectively. Milking frequency statistically affected MSM, RM and fat content, but increasing milking frequency from once to twice a day did not improve milkability nor did it significantly affect milk yields.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to hormonally induce lactation in prepubertal, nulliparous, and male goats both transgenic and non-transgenic. Analysis of milk quality, recombinant protein expression levels, total amount of recombinant protein produced, and the affect on long-term reproductive capability was assessed. Fifty-one goats (Saanen, Alpine, and Toggenburg), male and non-pregnant females, 2-31 months of age, either non-transgenic or transgenic were evaluated with a total of 10 transgenes (constructs) represented. Animals were given estradiol (0.25 mg/kg, i.m.) and progesterone (0.75 mg/kg, i.m.) on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13, while prednisilone (0.4 mg/kg, i.m.) was administered on days 14-16 with mammary massage occurring daily from day 5 onward. Forty of 51 animals, (36 of 38 females and 4 of 13 males) produced milk with total volumes in the 30-day experiment, ranging from 20 microl to 530 mls per day, or approximately 500 microl to 6.8 liters total. Milk composition was analyzed for various parameters (total protein, fat content, total solids and somatic cell count) with no significant differences found between induced and natural milk. Expression levels of recombinant proteins from transgenic animals that were analyzed during the induced lactation, and subsequently during normal lactations, were found to have no significant differences. Total amount of recombinant protein produced was evaluated at different expression levels with no statistical significance seen. While over 90% of the females placed in the regimen became pregnant, there was a correlation between increased age at time of induction and an increase in number of breedings, or reproductive cycles needed to establish a pregnancy after induction. For males, 100% placed in the regimen settled females after hormonal induction of lactation. Semen quality was evaluated prior to, during, and after hormonal treatments. Semen volume and sperm number did not differ; however, for a small percentage of males, there was a decrease in sperm and post thaw motility after hormonal treatments. These levels returned to normal within 4-5 weeks. Subsequent natural lactations showed total milk volumes within breed standards. These findings indicate that hormonal induction of lactation in the caprine species is a viable alternative to pregnancy for initiating lactation and milk production, does not adversely impact reproductive performance long-term, and can benefit the early assessment of recombinant proteins produced in a transgenic founder program.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to elucidate the impact of lactation stage on milk composition, hematological and biochemical parameters of dairy Baladi goats under Egyptian conditions. Forty-eight Baladi goats (32.8 ± 2.9 kg of BW) were enrolled in the current study. The lactation period has been divided into three stages; early (DIM less than 80 days), Mid (DIM 80–140 days), and Late (DIM over 140 days). Baladi goats had decreased daily-MY at a rate of 18.4% and 31.9% at mid and late stages of lactation, compared with early stage, respectively (p = 0.001). Furthermore, lactose% decreased significantly with progress of lactation (p = 0.017). Total solids%, however, decreased significantly at early stage of lactation in comparison with mid and late stages (p = 0.022). On the contrary, no significant differences were found in protein, fat and SNF percentages at different stages of lactation (p = 0.836, 0.625 and 0.281, respectively). Serum glucose and total protein were significantly reduced at late stage of lactation in comparison with early and mid stages (p = 0.001 and 0.001, respectively). On the contrary, no significant differences were found for erythrocytes count, hemoglobin, serum cholesterol, catalase and triiodothyronine at different stages of lactation. There were high and positive correlations between daily-MY and serum total protein (r = 0.87, P < 0.01) and triiodothyronine (r = 0.41, P < 0.01). However, negative estimates were reported between daily-MY and triglycerides (r = ?0.55, P < 0.01) and cholesterol (r = ?0.33, P < 0.05). Our results indicate that dairy Baladi goats produce milk with relatively stable protein, fat and solid not fat (SNF) contents at the different stages of lactation, encouraging the continuous utilization of their milk in processing. Also, dairy Baladi goats seem able to maintain the most vital biochemical parameters.  相似文献

  • 1.1. Glucose and protein uptake were measured in both mammary glands of two low- and two high-yielding dairy goats during lactation.
  • 2.2. Low-yielding goats tended to have higher arterial glucose concentrations, but approximately 40% lower arterio-venous differences (AV) and extraction rates (E) for glucose than high-yielding goats.
  • 3.3. AV and E for glucose (but not protein) were linearly related to yields of both lactose, milk protein and fat.
  • 4.4. Mammary uptake of glucose is determined primarily by mammary glucose metabolism, not glucose supply; lower intracellular glucose concentration in mammary cells of genetically superior animals thus explains the more efficient mammary uptake.

This study was carried out to determine the efficacy of three treatment protocols for subclinical mastitis during lactation in Damascus goats. For this purpose intramammarian ampicillin dicloxacillin, intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid and the combination of intramammarian ampicillin dicloxacillin and intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid were used in goats with subclinical mastitis during lactation. The microbiological treatment rates in the intramammarian ampicillin dicloxacillin, intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid and the combination of intramammarian ampicillin dicloxacillin and intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid groups in the 7th and 21st days after the treatment were 62.5% and 92.5%, 62.5% and 70%, 87.5% and 87.5%, respectively. The intramammarian and intramuscular combination group was found to have a statistically higher treatment rate than other two groups on the 7th day. On the 21st day intramammarian and combination groups were found to have statistically better treatment rates than that of intramuscular group. It was concluded that the goat subclinical mastitis could be successfully treated during lactation. While the intramammarian ampicillin dicloxacillin treatment had the best treatment rates, the combination of intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid was also successful. Intramuscular amoxycillin clavulonic acid as the sole treatment was not as effective as intramammarian therapy.  相似文献

Dairy goats may rely heavily on body fat and protein reserves in early lactation. Therefore, we aimed to determine the energy requirement and estimate the efficiency of utilization the nutrients of tissues mobilized in the first 8 weeks of lactation for milk production using the comparative slaughter technique. The average initial body mass of 51 multiparous goats was 57.19 ± 8.38 kg and a body condition score of 3.0 ± 0.5. Three goats were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment to serve as baseline animals to estimate initial empty BW and initial body composition. We used a complete randomized design in which the factor was the day of lactation for slaughtering (the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 35th, 42nd, 49th and 56th day), with six repeats, totalling 48 goats. No fasting before slaughtering. All animals received a single experimental diet. The efficiency of transferring energy from body reserves to milk was estimated using a multiple linear regression equation yielding a value of 0.76. The total energy stored in the empty body decreased over the eight lactation weeks, from 726.47 ± 26.19 to 316.18 ± 49.21 MJ, a 56.47% reduction, mainly because of a reduction in the energy from internal fat of 3.96 ± 1.98 MJ/day. In conclusion, the net energy required for maintenance is 60 ± 30 kJ/BW0.75 per day, and the net energy required for lactation decreases 70 ± 30 kJ/day during the first eight lactation weeks.  相似文献

Lactoferrin concentrations in goat milk throughout lactation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein and is considered a major part of the non-specific disease resistance complex in the mammary gland. For cows, the influence of physiological factors on the lactoferrin concentration in milk has been reported. In addition, lactoferrin concentrations have been demonstrated to be proportional to somatic cell counts (SCC) in cows milk. In this study, we aimed to analyse the effects of lactational stage, lactation number and SCC in 19 goats throughout an entire lactational period. Lactoferrin concentrations in weekly composite milk samples were analysed with a competitive ELISA developed for caprine lactoferrin. Maximal lactoferrin concentrations were observed in the colostral samples (387 ± 69 μg/ml). In the following week, less than 20% of these concentrations were observed (62 ± 25 μg/ml) and thereafter until week 32 p.p., the weekly mean concentrations ranged between 10 and 28 μg/ml. Toward the end of lactation, approximately during the 33rd week, the concentrations began to increase and were reaching about 3.2-fold higher values in week 44 (107 ± 19 μg/ml). SCC were only available in monthly intervals and could thus not be directly related to the weekly lactoferrin recordings. When classifying the individual goats according to the median of their SCC values obtained during midlactation, the goats with SCC medians >430,000 had higher lactoferrin milk concentrations during this time than the ones with SCC below this threshold (P < 0.05). In addition, sampling week and parity significantly affected the lactoferrin concentration (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). Comparing SCC and lactoferrin, both parameters are significantly affected by various physiological factors. Further studies are needed to clarify if the relationship between Lf and bacterial counts is closer compared to the relationship between SCC and bacterial counts.  相似文献

Prolactin heterogeneity in serum and milk were separated using Sephadex G-100. Three components were present in serum from lactating women with the following proportions: “void volume” -13.4%, “big” - 26.4%, and “little” - 60.3%. Milk from the same subjects did not contain “big” prolactin. Over 90% of the prolactin found in milk was “little” prolactin. The “little” prolactin in milk may not be similar to the “little” prolactin in the serum.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to describe the progesterone profile, physiological response, milk composition, and blood chemistry at the early stage (DIM 30-90 days) of lactation (E1:30-50; E2:50-70; E3:70-90 days) in Baladi goats under Egyptian conditions. The serum progesterone level was significantly reduced with the progress of the early lactation period to reach the least concentration (0.24 ng/ml) at the E3 stage of lactation (P=0.001). The daily milk yield was significantly increased with the progress of the lactation to reach the peak at the E2 stage of lactation (P=0.015). The percentage of milk fat was significantly decreased with the progress of the early lactation period (P=0.032). However, the percentages of total solids and SNF were significantly increased in E2 and E3 stages when compared with the E1 stage (P=0.001 and 0.018, respectively). The serum glucose and total antioxidant capacity were considerably reduced with the progress of the lactation period (P=0.047 and 0.039, respectively). In conclusion, Baladi goats showed a decreased serum progesterone level with the progress of the early lactation period and produce milk with a relatively stable protein and lactose contents. Furthermore, Baladi does able to maintain the stability of most blood biochemical parameters during such period.  相似文献

The objectives of this trial were to evaluate and compare the test characteristics of a number of indirect tests of bacteriological status of the milk from goats and sheep and to assess the affect of varying levels of prevalence of infection on the performance of those tests. The somatic cell count, California mastitis test (CMT) score, electrical impedance and the bacteriological status of 220 and 262 milk samples from the glands of lactating dairy goats and sheep, respectively, were determined. The sensitivity and specificity of indirect tests in predicting the bacteriological status were compared by analyzing the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve and calculating the likelihood ratio at various cut-off values.Bacteria were isolated from 17.7 and 4.6% of glands from goats and sheep, respectively. Somatic cell count was a better predictor of bacteriological status than either the CMT score or impedance in both goats and sheep. However, knowledge of the CMT score in both sheep and goats and the impedance in goats increases the likelihood of predicting the presence of a bacterial pathogen compared to no testing at all (P<0.05). Knowledge of the age and days postpartum of the animals at the time of testing did not increase the probability that infection status could be predicted. Variation in cut-off levels to predict infection status reported in the literature may be due to variation in the prevalence of infection in the populations studied. Use of likelihood ratio allows comparison of tests over a range of prevalence’s as likelihood ratios are independent of prevalence. The prevalence of infection within a herd should be considered when selecting a cut-off value for indirect testing for the presence of bacteria in milk of small ruminants.  相似文献

Milk is the best, complete food important for the development and nourishment of a neonate. Except for nutrients, milk contains biologically active opioid peptides derived from beta-casein, named beta-casomorphins (BCMs), which can exert effects in the gastrointestinal tract as well as in the whole body of neonates. The content of beta-casomorphins in human milk during maturation phases has not been studied so far. The aim of this study was to determine the content of beta-casomorphin-5 and -7 in human milk in different phases of lactation. A significantly higher concentration of both beta-casomorphins was found in colostrum than in mature milk. The concentration of beta-casomorphin in milk collected in the second month of lactation was similar to the level obtained in the fourth month of lactation. The content of beta-casomorphins in human milk was observed with the period of lactation. The level of opioid peptides may depend on the function of these peptides in neonate's body and may be associated with the maturation process.  相似文献

The concerted action of purified bovine gastric lipase and human pancreatic colipase-dependent lipase and colipase, or crude human pancreatic juice, in the digestion of human milk triacylglycerols was explored in vitro. Gastric lipase hydrolyzed milk triacylglycerol with an initially high rate but became severely inhibited already at low concentration of released fatty acid. In contrast, colipase-dependent lipase could not, by itself, hydrolyze milk triacylglycerol. However, a short preincubation of milk with gastric lipase, resulting in a limited lipolysis, made the milk fat triacylglycerol available for an immediate and rapid hydrolysis by pancreatic juice, and also for purified colipase-dependent lipase, provided colipase and bile salts were present. The same effect was obtained when incubation with gastric lipase was replaced by addition of long-chain fatty acid. Long-chain fatty acid increased the binding of colipase-dependent lipase to the milk fat globule. Binding was efficient only in the presence of both fatty acid and colipase. We conclude that a limited gastric lipolysis of human milk triacylglycerol, resulting in a release of a low concentration of long-chain fatty acids, is of major importance for the subsequent hydrolysis by colipase-dependent lipase in the duodenum.  相似文献
