Pot experiments were carried out in the green house at Amhara Regional Agriculture Research Institute (ARARI) Bahirdar, Ethiopia, to evaluate the potential of Brassica carinata cultivars, namely Holleta-l, S-67 and Yellow Dodola in 2007 and 2008. The effect of B. carinata (Ethiopian mustard) cultivars Holleta-1, S-67 and Yellow Dodola as green manure and Holleta-1 as dried plant residue on chickpea fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris) was studied. Six rates of green manure and dried plant residue (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 g) each per kg of pathogen-infested soil were used in the experiments. Infested soil without B. carinata cultivars amendment as a control and susceptible check variety JG-62 without amendment was used in the experiments. In the experiments, the treatments were arranged in randomised complete block design in three replications and repeated twice. Data on seedling emergence, wilt incidence, fresh weight and dry weight were collected. The amendments of infested soil with B. carinata cultivars green manure and dried plant residue reduced the incidence of chickpea fusarium wilt. The incorporation of the green manure Holleta-1, S-67 and Yellow Dodola at 20–100 g/kg of infested soil was effective in reducing wilt incidences on chickpea. However, the incorporation of Yellow Dodola at 80 and 100 g green manure per kg of infested soil were the best combination in reducing significantly wilt incidence. The application of the dried plant residue at 20–100 g/kg of infested soil was effective in reducing wilt incidences on chickpea. However when applied dried plant residue at 60, 80 and 100 g green manure per kg of infested soil were better in reducing wilt incidence as compared to 20 and 40 g/kg of infested soil. The three cultivars green manure incorporated at different level of doses affected the influence of fusarium wilt on the fresh and dry weight respectively. The use of Holleta-1 green manure at 20–100 g/kg of infested soil significantly reduced disease incidence in the range of 20.0–33.3%. Green manure amendment S-67 significantly reduced disease incidence in the range of 20.0–46.6%. Yellow Dodola reduce disease incidence with 26.7–60%. The dried plant residue incorporated at different level influence fusarium wilt. The application of Holleta-1 dried plant residue at 20–100 g/kg of infested soil reduced disease incidence in the range 20.0–26.7%. The results imply the potential of using B. carinata green manure and dried plant residue as cultural management components in chickpea fusarium wilt disease management.  相似文献

Yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus [Banks] (Acari: Tarsonemidae) is one of the major pests of jute crops (Corchorus capsularis L.) in Bangladesh. In this study, indigenous varieties of jute were used for treatments, namely, CVL‐1, CVE‐3, BJC‐7370 and BJC‐83. The paired plot treatments (treated and untreated controls) were laid out under field conditions. The effects of yellow mite were studied at three stages of the jute plants: 60 days after sowing (DAS), 90 DAS and 120 DAS. A higher number of mite stages was observed up to 90 DAS and then declined up to 120 DAS in var. BJC‐7370 among two other varieties, Deshi and Tossa. The percentage of infestation and damage indexes (scale 0–5) were measured to relate yellow mite injuries to the number of leaves, leaf area, fresh leaf weight, dry leaf weight, soluble solids, plant height, base diameter, fiber weight, stick weight, number of flowers per plant, number of pods, pod weight per plant, seeds per pod, seed weight and 1000 seeds' weight of plants infested at three different phenological stages. The highest fiber yield loss was found in the variety BJC‐7370 (59.75%), followed by BJC‐83 (55.56%), CVE‐3 (54.30%) and CVL‐1 (50.05). The highest stick yield losses were found in the following order: BJC‐7370 (54.54%) > BJC‐83 (51.17%) > CVL‐1 (43.68%) > CVE‐3 (37.80%) and BJC‐7370 (30.33%) > CVL‐1 (27.83%) > BJC‐83 (24.16%) > CVE‐3 (22.11%) for the highest seed yield under field conditions for Corchorus capsularis. High yellow mite population in untreated checks decreased plant growth and showed significant losses in yield production for the variety BJC‐7370.  相似文献

In chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.) flowering and pod developmentproceed acropetally. In plants grown under normal field conditionsat Hyderabad, in peninsular India, and at Hissar in north India,at successively apical nodes of the branches there was a declinein pod number per node, weight per pod, seed number per podand/or weight per seed. The percentage of nitrogen in the seedswas the same in earlier and later-formed pods at Hyderabad;at Hissar the later-formed seeds contained a higher percentage.Earlier- and later-formed flowers contained similar numbersof ovules. The decline in seed number and/or weight per seedin the later-formed pods of 28 out of 29 cultivars indicatedthat pod-filling was limited by the supply of assimilates orother nutrients. By contrast, in one exceptionally small-seededcultivar there was no decline in the number or weight of seedsin later-formed pods, indicating that yield was limited by ‘sink’size. On a site infested with V. dahliae the incidence of wilt was low consistently in strawberry cvs Talisman and Redgauntlet, high in Merton Herald and Gorella, and very high in Merton Ruby, Cambridge Vigour, Prizewinner, Templar and Crusader. Changes in mean volume per plant for the whole population of each cultivar were closely related to disease incidence and therefore differed between high-resistance and low-resistance cultivars. Height and spread measurements of diseased and symptomless plants in certain cultivars showed differences in the severity of the effect of the pathogen on growth that were not closely related to wilt incidence. Gradients of disease incidence and plant growth in 1966 and 1967 were associated with a transition from one soil series to another. Review of two earlier experiments on the same site revealed a similar gradient of disease incidence in 1963-64, but a reversed gradient in 1960-62. Variations related to soil conditions were smaller in the earlier experiments than in 1966-67.  相似文献

Abstract:  Yield-related responses of cowpea plants to artificial infestation of Aspavia armigera , at the onset of podding, at different densities, 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 pairs per cage were studied on cowpea in caged pots and field plots. With increasing insect density there was a corresponding significant increase (P < 0.05) in pod and seed damage, and reduction in pod length, numbers of pods per plant and seeds per pod, seed weight and total yield. Pod production was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in infested plants than in the control; at 1- and 16-pair levels, pod production increased by 75% and 81% over the uninfested control in the pot and field experiments respectively. Then again, with increase in insect density there was a progressive high-magnitude increase in pod abortion reaching 252.6% and 200% at the 32-pair level on potted and field cowpea, respectively, resulting in drastic reductions in the number of harvestable pods. Cowpea compensation mechanism was lost completely as insect population increased. The lowest density of A. armigera at which significant reduction (P < 0.05) occurred in total seed yield compared with the control was one pair. The relationship between insect density and pod damage, and yield was best described by a quadratic + linear fit, while that between insect density and seed damage was best fit as polynomial with very high significant r -values. Chi-squared analysis showed that the models derived from pot and field data were similar.  相似文献

Thirty-two Trichoderma isolates were collected from soils grown with chickpea in central highlands of Ethiopia. The eight isolates were identified by CAB-International as Trichoderma harzianum, T. koningii and T. pseudokoningii. In in vitro tests, all Trichoderma isolates showed significant (P < 0.05) differences in their colony growth and in inhibiting the colony growth of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris, race 3. In potted experiment, four Trichoderma isolates were tested as seed treatment on three chickpea cultivars (JG-62 susceptible, Shasho moderately susceptible and JG-74 resistant) against F. oxysporum f.sp. ciceris, race 3. The result showed that T. harzianum and unidentified Trichoderma isolate T23 significantly reduced wilt severity and delayed disease onset. The degree of wilt severity and delay of disease onset varied with chickpea cultivars. Our study revealed that biological control agents such as Trichoderma can be a useful component of integrated chickpea Fusarium wilt management.  相似文献

Effects of inoculating four Arachis hypogaea ssp. fastigiata cultivars with 17 Bradyrhizobium spp. strains were studied in a glasshouse experiment using a sandy soil devoid of an indigenous Bradyrhizobium population. Firstly, a wide range of parameters, indicative of symbiotic performance, were assessed for their influence on seed yield, by correlation and statistical analyses. It was found that nodule dry weight and leaf area were relevant parameters concerning seed yield. Secondly, the effects of host and strain genotype on those parameters were described.Variations in nodule dry weight did not have an effect on seed yield, except for cultivar Natal Common at lower nodule dry weight values. Therefore, it was concluded that the quantity of nitrogen fixing tissue met the demand for combined nitrogen and did not limit seed yield. This conclusion was further supported by the observation that at low nodule numbers per plant the nodule size increased to generate sufficient nitrogen fixing tissue.Leaf area, which comprises components for both photosynthetic capacity and plant development, was found to correlate well with seed yield. An increase in leaf area resulted in significant seed yield increases for all three spanish-type cultivars, but not for the valencia-type cultivar. Leaf area, thus, appeared as a factor limiting seed yield of spanish-type groundnuts.Cultivar performance concerning seed yield was significantly better for Natal Common compared to the other three cultivars, while Natal Common had a significantly lower plant (biomass excluding seed) dry weight value.Inoculation with different strains of Bradyrhizobium resulted in significantly different nodule dry weight values, but hardly led to significant differences in seed yield. This agreed with the finding that the amount of nitrogen fixing tissue appeared not to limit the availability of combined nitrogen.A large quantity of nitrogen was partitioned to the groundnut seeds: 62% to 76% of total accumulated nitrogen was located in the seeds.This study showed that testing for symbiotic effectiveness in the groundnut Bradyrhizobium symbiosis should include assessment of final (seed and biomass) yield, because parameters measured at stages prior to maturity, like nodulation parameters, may lead to flawed effectiveness ratings.  相似文献

Wilt incidence in certain hop cultivars recorded during 15 years of experiments on a plot infested with a virulent strain of V. albo-atrum, and over shorter periods on various infested farm sites, was studied by multiple regression analysis in relation to rainfall and soil temperature at various periods during the growing season. In the least-resistant cultivar, Fuggle, the incidence of wilt was always high, and was independent of rainfall and soil temperature. Wilt incidence in other cultivars showed a negative correlation with mean soil temperature at 20 cm for the period mid-April to late June; no other single or multiple regression was consistently significant. It was concluded that the commonly observed association of high wilt incidence with wet weather in early summer is attributable to low soil temperature rather than to high rainfall.  相似文献

A study was carried out to test direct and indirect antagonistic effect against Fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (FOC), and plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits of bacteria isolated from rhizosphere soils of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). A total of 40 bacterial isolates were tested for their antagonistic activity against FOC and of which 10 were found to have strong antagonistic potential. These were found to be Streptomyces spp. (five isolates) and Bacillus spp. (five isolates) in the morphological and biochemical characterisation and 16S rDNA analysis. Under both greenhouse and wilt sick field conditions, the selected Streptomyces and Bacillus isolates reduced disease incidence and delayed expression of symptoms of disease, over the non-inoculated control. The PGP ability of the isolates such as nodule number, nodule weight, shoot weight, root weight, grain yield and stover yield were also demonstrated under greenhouse and field conditions over the non-inoculated control. Among the ten isolates, Streptomyces sp. AC-19 and Bacillus sp. BS-20 were found to have more potential for biocontrol of FOC and PGP in chickpea. This investigation indicates that the selected Streptomyces and Bacillus isolates have the potential to control Fusarium wilt disease and to promote plant growth in chickpea.  相似文献

为探讨甘蔗-大豆间作模式对大豆鲜荚产量和农艺性状的影响,于2009—2011年连续3年在广州市华南农业大学农场进行大田试验,试验设置2种施氮水平(常规施氮(525kg·hm-2)和减量施氮(300kg·hm-2))和3种种植模式(甘蔗-大豆(1∶1)、甘蔗-大豆(1∶2)、单作大豆)。结果表明:甘蔗-大豆间作(1∶2)模式下,2009年减量施氮水平的大豆鲜荚产量较常规施氮水平提高了33%,2010和2011年不同施氮水平间均无显著差异;甘蔗-大豆间作模式对大豆的单株鲜荚重、多粒荚数和百粒鲜重无显著影响;大豆单株鲜荚重与多粒荚数在不同种植模式下均呈显著相关(P<0.05),在常规施氮间作模式下与大豆单株荚数呈显著相关(P<0.05)。甘蔗-大豆间作没有降低大豆的单株鲜荚产量,也没有对大豆的农艺性状产生负面影响,从增产增收、提高土地生产力来考虑,减量施氮模式下甘蔗-大豆间作具有一定的可行性。  相似文献

通过田间接种试验,研究了威廉腔环蚓(Metaphire guillelmi)活动对冬油菜(Brassica napus)中双9号产量构成因素、籽粒产量和含油率的影响.结果表明:接种蚯蚓后,中双9号的一次有效分枝数、主花序角果数、每角粒数和千粒重均较未接种对照有增加趋势,但差异不显著;而单株角果数、单株产量和小区产量较对照显著提高,分别比对照增加了36.7%、46.5%和29.7%,这可能与蚯蚓促进油菜营养生长阶段植株生长及对氮素的吸收、累积有关.接种蚯蚓后,油菜籽粒含油率较对照有所降低,但由于蚯蚓活动显著提高了油菜籽粒产量,因此单株产油量和小区产油量仍比对照提高了37.4%和21.0%.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted in Samara for a two year period (1996 and 1997) to identify the major pod sucking bugs of soybean and to determine the effect of insecticides and frequency of application on the bugs and soybean yield. Nezara viridula L. Halydicoris ventralis Dall. Sphaerocoris annulus Fab. and Agonoscelis versicolor Fab. were the major bugs and their population were less than two bugs per plot. Also, insecticides and frequency of spray application had no significant effect on the pod sucking bugs population, percentage damage pods, seed damage index, 100 seed weight and seed yield per hectare. Hence, except the status of the pod sucking bugs population in this area of study changes significantly (possibly due to the influence of environmental factors and cropping patterns) soybean may be grown in this area with no insecticidal protection.  相似文献

Summary Separate experiments examined nodulation and seed yield of cowpea cv. Prima after (a) changes in the level of combined nitrogen from 25 to 0 or 60 ppm N, (b) cycles of wilting and rehydration, and (c) shading to ca 50% full daylight. Plants were grown in the simulated tropical environment of a plastics bubble house and experienced these changes over the growth stages: emergence to first flower, first flower to mid pod-fill or mid pod-fill to maturity.Seed yields of nodulated plants were unaffected by combined nitrogen supply and almost double those of non-nodulated plants (100 g cf 56 g per plant)-due mainly to increases in pod number per plant and mean seed weight. Reducing the nitrogen level from 25 to 0 ppm N, especially between mid pod-fill and maturity, reduced seed yields of non-nodulated plants to 36 g per plant. At the first flowering stage, plants grown without combined nitrogen had nitrogenase activities less than 10% of those supplied with 25 ppm N; 60 ppm N at any stage of development more than halved nitrogenase activity when compared with plants supplied with 25 ppm.Repeated wilting prior to flowering markedly reduced seed yields compared with the unstressed controls (41 g cf 76 g per plant)-mainly by decreasing subsequent pod production. Nodule weight and nitrogenase activity per plant were also much reduced. Wilting after flowering did not reduce yield, and nitrogenase activity was less affected.Shading throughout, or from first flower onwards, reduced seed yield by about 25% because fewer pods were produced. 以8个矮生菜豆品种为材料,研究了单株豆荚产量与其主要构成因素的关系,结果表明,单株豆荚产量及作为豆荚产量构成因素的主茎高、分枝数、花序数、豆荚数、豆荚长和豆荚重在品种间均存在极显著的差异;但这些产量构成因素与单株豆荚产量之间,无论是表型相关系数还是遗传相关系数或是环境相关系数均未达到显著水平。通径分析结果显示,一个与单株豆荚产量关系密切的性状。其对单株豆荚产量的效应总是由于存在一个或多个负向的间接通径系数而被削弱。从而掩盖了该性状对单株豆荚产量的遗传效应,从表型和遗传通径系数看,对单株产量最为重要的是单株结荚数及单株花序数。单株分枝数、主茎高和豆荚重其次。豆荚长则较为次要。根据通径分析结果,就矮生菜豆丰产性育种中各有关性状的选择进行了讨论。  相似文献

This study examined whether increased K supply in conjunction with BAPcould increase lupin seed yield and harvest index by enlarging sink volume (podnumber), increasing assimilate and improving assimilate partitioning to filltheadditional pods induced by BAP treatment. Narrow-leafed lupin(Lupinusangustifolius, cv. Danja abs mutant) was grown inaglasshouse, in pots containing sandy soil with four K treatments (0, 15, 60 and120 mg K/kg soil). BAP (2 mM) was applied daily toallmain stem flowers throughout the life of each flower from opening to senesced.BAP application did not affect assimilate production (as measured by totalabove-ground biomass), but changed assimilate partitioning. On BAP-treatedplants, there were greater proportions of seed to pod wall dry weight on themain stem but smaller proportions on the branches, and an increased weightratioof seed to pod wall overall which meant more assimilate was used for seedgrowthrather than pod wall growth. BAP increased the number of pods per plant by35% and this more than compensated for the decreases in seeds per podandseed weight. Therefore, there was an increased harvest index (+11%)and seed yield per plant (+13%) in BAP-treated plants. BAP alsoincreased the number of pods with filled seeds (146%) on the main stemand main stem seed K+ concentration (from 0.81% to0.87%). Added K increased biomass but only slightly affected assimilatepartitioning. As applied K increased, relatively more assimilate was used forpod wall growth rather than seed growth. Added K increased seed yield per plantby about 14% due to increases in seed weight and the number of pods onthe main stem. Moreover, K+ concentration in seeds and shootsincreased with increasing level of applied K. Seed yield was enhanced more byBAP when K was supplied at high levels. Increasing K supply interactedpositively with added BAP by increasing narrow-leaf lupin seed yield andharvestindex through increases in assimilate supply and its partitioning into seeds.  相似文献

The sub-tropical legume, soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], has lower grain yields at low temperatures, mainly due to reduced nitrogen fixation. The isoflavone genistein has been identified as one of the major compounds in soybean seed and root extracts responsible for inducing the expression of the B. japonicum nod genes. A 2-year field study was conducted in 1997 and 1998 with 11 soybean cultivars recommended for Québec, and representing a range of yield potentials and maturity groups. The objective of this study was to assess the variability among soybean cultivar maturity groups in terms of response to genistein application under Canadian short season and cool-spring conditions. The experiments were organized in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The two genistein treatments included B. japonicum inoculant pre-incubated with 20 m genistein and B. japonicum inoculant only. The inoculants were applied into the furrow at the time of planting. The results of this study showed that genistein pre-incubated B. japonicum increased soybean grain yield and protein content over two years. In 1998, pod number per plant–1 and seed number plant–1 were also clearly increased. When 20 m genistein was applied in 1998, cultivars in the late maturity group had 28 and 70% more shoot and total protein content, respectively, than the early maturity groups with or without genistein, or the late maturity without genistein, in 1998. There was no interaction between genistein application and soybean cultivar in this study, indicating that both early and late maturing cultivars responded similarly to genistein pretreated inocula. The response of two peanut cultivars (Tainan 9 and SK 38) to applications of six boron (B) rates (H3BO3 at 0, 0.12, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2 kg B ha–1) at two calcium levels [nil (-Ca) or CaSO4 at 100 kg Ca ha–1 (+Ca)] to a B-deficient Oxic Paleustult was studied in a pot experiment. Without added Ca, both cultivars had low seed yields and gave only small responses to B. Similarly, without added B, both cultivars had low seed yields and did not respond to Ca. But, with added Ca or B, they responded strongly to B and Ca, respectively. In both cultivars, deficiencies of Ca or B depressed seed dry weight by depressing seed size by over 75%. Boron deficiency further depressed seed dry weight by decreasing the number of seeds per plant by decreasing the number of seeds per pod in Tainan 9, and the number of pods per plant in SK 38. Seed dry weight was depressed more than pod dry weight, so that both Ca and B deficiencies severely depressed the shelling %. With added Ca, tainan 9 responded to lower levels of B than SK 38, reaching maximum seed dry weight at 0.12 kg B ha–1. At this low level of B. SK 38 yielded only half the seed dry weight of Tainan 9. But SK 38 continued to respond to increasing levels of B to 2 kg ha–1, producing a maximum seed yield 40% higher than Tainan 9. The results indicate that where all other nutrients are adequate, SK 38 will yield better than Tainan 9 on soils with high B, but worse on soils with low B. The implications of these findings for the selection of peanut cultivars are discussed.  相似文献

The purpose of this research was to determine whetherBacillus subtilis,nonpathogenicFusarium oxysporum,and/orTrichoderma harzianum,applied alone or in combination to chickpea (Cicer arietinumL.) cultivars ‘ICCV 4’ and ‘PV 61’ differing in their levels of resistance to Fusarium wilt, could effectively suppress disease caused by the highly virulent race 5 ofFusarium oxysporumf. sp.ciceris.Seeds of both cultivars were sown in soil amended with the three microbial antagonists, alone or in combination, and 7 days later seedlings were transplanted into soil infested with the pathogen. All three antagonistic microorganisms effectively colonized the roots of both chickpea cultivars, whether alone or in combination, and significantly suppressed Fusarium wilt development. In comparison with the control, the incubation period for the disease was delayed on average about 3 days and the final disease severity index and standardized area under the disease progress curve were reduced significantly between 14 and 33% and 16 and 42%, respectively, by all three microbial antagonists. Final disease incidence only was reduced byB. subtilis(18–25%) or nonpathogenicF. oxysporum(18%). The extent of disease suppression was higher and more consistent in ‘PV 61’ than in ‘ICCV 4’ whether colonized byB. subtilis,nonpathogenicF. oxysporum,orT. harzianum.The combination ofB. subtilis+T. harzianumwas effective in suppressing Fusarium wilt development but it did not differ significantly from treatments with either of these antagonists alone. In contrast, the combination ofB. subtilis+ nonpathogenicF. oxysporumtreatment was not effective but either antagonist alone significantly reduced disease development.  相似文献

Tolerant wheat cultivars yield well when sown in fields infested with the root‐lesion nematode Pratylenchus thornei, which is present in 67% of fields in the subtropical grain region of eastern Australia. Wheat breeding programmes require accurate phenotyping to select germplasm with superior tolerance to P. thornei. This study investigated normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) as a phenotypic tool to predict the tolerance of wheat cultivars on low and high P. thornei population densities. Three, 2‐year field experiments used a resistant and a susceptible wheat cultivar in the first year to develop low and high P. thornei populations. In the second year, 36 wheat cultivars were sown on these plots. A NTech Greenseeker was used to determine the NDVI of each plot at regular times during the season and grain yield was measured at crop maturity. There was an inverse relationship between P. thornei population densities and the NDVI for intolerant wheat cultivars. Regression analysis showed a highly predictive response between the yield tolerance index and NDVI with R2 ranging from 0.85 (n = 36) to 0.93 (n = 36) for the three experiments. The area under the disease progress curve with respect to NDVI was highly predictive of yield tolerance (R2 = 0.92; n = 36) when there were high populations (9,091 P. thornei/kg), but not when populations were low (578 P. thornei/kg). Tolerant cultivars can be identified by NDVI when sown on soil containing high populations (>2,500 P. thornei/kg) by measurement at approximately 1,000 degree days after sowing. Greenseeker is a valuable tool for wheat breeders to select germplasm with tolerance of P. thornei.  相似文献
