Moringa oleifera is a miracle plant rich in nutrients, antioxidants, and antibiotic properties. Present study was designed to evaluate various biochemical attributes of leaves and flowers of M. oleifera. Plant parts (leaves, flowers) of M. oleifera, collected from different roadsides of Multan district, Punjab, Pakistan, were used as experimental material. Result indicates that alkaloids, saponin, carbohydrates, fats, and protein had a high value in the aqueous extract of both leaves and flowers of M. oleifera. Whereas phenol content was high in methanolic leaves extract and the phenol contents were high in aqueous extract of flowers. The extract yield of M. oleifera leaves and flowers both showed a higher percentage in aqueous extract (57.5%), followed by methanol extract and lowest in ethyl acetate extract. Flavonoids contents were higher in ethyl acetate extract of leaves (33.67%) and aqueous extract of flowers (53.71%). While crude fiber was high in methanolic extract of leaves (12.40%) and in flowers crude fiber was high in ethyl acetate extract (15.86%). The moisture contents were higher in leaves (8.87%) than flowers (7.3%) and similarly, ash percentage in flowers (52.60%) than leaves (41.84%). Ethyl acetate extracts of M. oleifera leaves show antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa while methanolic extract of M. oleifera flowers shows antibacterial activity against Xanthomonas sp. Maximum growth inhibits show in all extracts of leaves against Aspergillus flavus, F. oxysporum, and P. glabrum except for the concentrated aqueous extract of leaves. While in flowers maximum growth inhibits all extracts against P. glabrum, A. niger, and A. flavus except the diluted ethyl acetate extract. Phytochemicals present in different parts of moringa have significant edible and commercial potential. Moringa extracts exhibited significant antimicrobial activity, therefore have applications in pharmaceuticals.  相似文献

The present study was designed to evaluate in vitro antifungal activity of herbal extracts against three plant pathogenic fungi (viz. Rhizopus stolonifer, Botrytis cinerea and Colletotrichum coccodes). Extracts of leaves and rinds of Garcinia indica, rhizomes of Curcuma aromatica, roots of Glycyrrhiza gahliae, leaves of Nyctanthes arbour-tristis and seeds of Vernonia anthelmintica were used for screening. Screening was done using poisoned food technique. Relatively potent extracts were shortlisted from this study and were further assayed to find out their minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC). From the above studies, it was observed that ethyl acetate extract of rhizomes of C. aromatica and unripe fruit rinds of G. indica have shown the lowest MFC values amongst the other tested plant extracts. This study indicates that the potential of these plant extracts in the management of diseases caused by plant pathogenic fungi.  相似文献

Indian herbal plant species Lantana indica, Adhatoda vasica, Pandanus furcatus, Tylophora indica and Centella asiatica, traditionally used in ethno medicines to treat common infections and various disorders, have been studied for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. The methanolic extracts of the plant leaves exhibited significant and dose-dependent antioxidant activities in DPPH radical scavenging, ferric ion reducing and phosphomolybdate assays. These leaf extracts showed antimicrobial activity against selected Gram +ve and Gram ?ve bacterial strains. A. vasica and L. indica extracts possessed maximum antioxidant and antimicrobial activity, respectively. The activities could be correlated to phenolics and flavonoid content of the leaf extracts which ranged from 30.25 to 91.98 mg GAE g?1 dw leaf extract and 2.67 to 96.45 mg RE g?1 dw leaf extract respectively. The aqueous extracts of plant leaves significantly protected the DNA damage against the oxidative damage caused by hydroxyl radicals.  相似文献

以珍珠岩作为基质,选择4年生巨桉(Eucalyptus grandis)嫩叶(T1)、老叶(T2)、表层凋落叶(T3)、腐解凋落叶(T4)4种状态的叶片,每种状态叶片设置3个浸提液浓度水平[分别称取风干叶片30g、15g和7.5g加入900mL蒸馏水进行浸提,以蒸馏水为对照(CK)],采用水培法研究了不同状态叶片浸提液对萝卜(Raphanus sativus)幼苗形态生长和抗性生理特性的影响。结果显示:(1)巨桉不同状态叶片浸提液显著抑制了萝卜幼苗的根长,其中嫩叶的抑制作用最强,腐解凋落叶抑制作用最弱。(2)各状态叶片浸提液处理后萝卜幼苗中过氧化氢酶(CAT)和过氧化物酶(POD)的活性均呈现升高趋势,嫩叶各浓度处理以及其他状态叶片的高浓度处理下超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活性升高,而其余浓度处理的SOD活性降低。(3)各状态叶片浸提液处理萝卜幼苗的丙二醛(MDA)含量在低浓度处理时低于CK,其余处理下则高于CK。(4)嫩叶各浓度处理萝卜幼苗的可溶性糖(SS)含量显著高于CK,且随着老叶和表层凋落叶浸提液浓度的升高,幼苗SS含量先升后降,腐解凋落叶各浓度处理下则呈渐增的趋势;而可溶性蛋白(SP)含量则随浸提液浓度的增加而升高,且T2和T3两种状态叶片的各浓度处理与CK差异显著。研究表明,巨桉不同状态叶片浸提液对萝卜幼苗生长和抗性生理产生了强烈的抑制作用,其中以嫩叶最强,老叶和表层凋落叶次之,腐解凋落叶最弱。  相似文献

植物叶片的非结构性碳水化合物(non-structural carbohydrates,NSC)不仅为植物的代谢过程提供重要能量,还能一定程度上反映植物对外界环境的适应策略。以温带针阔混交林(长白山)、温带阔叶林(东灵山)、亚热带常绿阔叶林(神农架)和热带雨林(尖峰岭)4种森林类型的树种为研究对象,利用蒽酮比色法测定了163种常见乔木叶片可溶性糖、淀粉和NSC(可溶性糖+淀粉)含量,探讨了不同森林类型植物叶片NSC的差异及其地带性变化规律。结果显示:(1)从森林类型上看,植物叶片NSC含量从北到南递减,即温带针阔混交林(170.79 mg/g)>温带阔叶林(100.27 mg/g)>亚热带常绿阔叶林(91.24 mg/g)>热带雨林(80.13 mg/g)。(2)从生活型上看,无论是落叶树还是阔叶树,其叶片可溶性糖、淀粉和NSC含量均表现为:温带针阔混交林>温带阔叶林>亚热带常绿阔叶林>热带雨林;北方森林叶片可溶性糖、淀粉和NSC含量均表现为落叶树种>常绿树种,或阔叶树种>针叶树种。(3)森林植物叶片NSC含量、可溶性糖与淀粉含量比值与年均温和年均降水量均呈显著负相关。研究表明,森林植物叶片可溶性糖、淀粉和NSC含量以及可溶性糖与淀粉含量比值均具有明显的从北到南递减的地带性规律;其NSC含量以及可溶性糖与淀粉含量比值与温度和水分均呈显著负相关的变化规律可能是植物对外界环境适应的重要机制之一。该研究结果不仅为阐明中国主要森林树种碳代谢和生长适应对策提供了数据基础,而且为理解区域尺度森林植被对未来气候变化的响应机理提供新的视角。  相似文献

Callus and micropropagated shoots were initiated from leaf explants of the neem tree, Azadirachta indica A. Juss. A variety of whole plant and in vitro cell cultures from neem seedlings of Ghanian origin were tested for insect antifeedant compounds using the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål)). Feeding suppression occurred when whole extracts of seed, leaf, callus, suspension and shoot cultures were tested in no-choice feeding bioassays. Controls of sucrose, carrot callus and the plant growth medium showed no feeding deterrence. Azadirachtin, the main known antifeedant in neem seed kernels, was quantified from a seed extract by HPLC but was not detected in any of the other extracts. Antifeedancy was determined during batch growth of a suspension culture which had been in culture for 5 months; results indicated that antifeedants were still being formed and that levels increased after maximum biomass was attained.  相似文献

Fungicides mancozeb and carbendazim caused 100% reduction in mycelial growth of Alternaria brassicae over control in vitro while 1% (w/v) aqueous bulb extract of Allium sativum and leaf extract of Acacia nilotica caused significant reductions. In dual culture, GR isolate of Trichoderma viride performed the best among the test isolates of Trichoderma, causing 81%, 82% reduction in mycelial growth of A. brassicae over control. Performance of isolates SI‐2, P and SI‐1 of T. viride were at par (P < 0.01) with that of GR isolate. Spraying of A. brassicae at different ages of the mustard host plant identified 75 days after sowing (d.a.s.) as the most critical age of the mustard plant for development of Alternaria blight severity on the crop with 45 d.a.s. being the next most important one. Mancozeb was the best among all the treatments, resulting in the lowest disease severity on leaves of mustard at both Sewar and Ludhavai as also the lowest A‐value (area under disease progress curve). Performance of bulb extract of A. sativum in checking the disease severity on leaves and pods was at par (P < 0.05) with mancozeb. The GR isolate of T. viride was at par with mancozeb in checking blight severity on mustard leaves at Sewar while performance of the bioagent was significantly (P < 0.05) inferior to the chemical fungicide at Ludhavai. Performance of the bioagent isolate GR of T. viride in checking the disease severity on pods was at par (P < 0.05) with mancozeb at both Sewar and Ludhavai, the treatment recording the lowest A‐value on pods. While application of bulb extract of A. sativum resulted in highest seed yield at Sewar in 2001–2002, the bioagent isolate GR of T. viride did so at Ludhavai, both the treatments being at par (P < 0.05) with mancozeb and significantly higher than control. Application of bulb extract of A. sativum at 45 and 75 d.a.s. resulted in lowest blight severity on leaves and pods as also in highest seed yield among the different single and combination of treatments. Although disease severity in the treatment was at par (P < 0.05) with that in mancozeb, application of the plant extract at the two stages of crop growth resulted in significantly higher seed yield compared with the two applications of the chemical fungicide. However, application of the treatments singly only at 75 d.a.s., GR isolate of T. viride at 45 and 75 d.a.s., A. sativum 45 d.a.s. + T. viride 75 d.a.s., and T. viride 45 d.a.s. + A. sativum 75 d.a.s. resulted in seed yield at par (P < 0.05) with application of bulb extract of A. sativum at 45 and 75 d.a.s.  相似文献

为探究秋季枫叶呈色的关键生理因素,该文以转色期叶色为绿色、黄色和红色的枫香单株为试材,研究了L*、a*、b*值变化与叶片色素、可溶性糖及可溶性蛋白质含量变化的相关性。结果表明:(1)在变色期,3种色彩枫香叶片叶绿素a、叶绿素b、总叶绿素和类胡萝卜素均大量降解,花色素苷不同程度积累。(2)绿色叶单株叶绿素和类胡萝卜素始终保持较高含量,花色素苷含量上升4.2倍,叶片内色素含量比值始终保持稳定; 黄色叶单株叶绿素和类胡萝卜素含量最低,花色素苷含量上升4.4倍,b*值与叶绿素含量极显著负相关,与类胡萝卜素含量显著负相关,与花色素苷/类胡萝卜素含量比值极显著正相关; 红色叶单株叶绿素和类胡萝卜素含量略高于黄色叶单株,花色素苷含量上升27.2倍,a*值与叶绿素含量、类胡萝卜素含量极显著负相关,与花色素苷含量显著正相关,与色素含量比值无显著相关性。(3)红色叶单株具有较高的可溶性糖含量和可溶性蛋白质含量。因此,在枫香叶片变色期,保持较高的叶绿素和类胡萝卜素含量,维持色素含量比值稳定使叶片呈现绿色; 叶绿素和类胡萝卜素的大量降解,以及花色素苷/类胡萝卜素含量比值的升高使叶片呈现黄色; 叶绿素的降解和花色素苷的大量合成使叶片呈现红色。  相似文献

为深入认识和探讨植物对环境变化的生理生态响应和适应,以分布在川西巴郎山的大叶醉鱼草(Buddleja davidii)为研究对象,沿海拔梯度对植物叶片中非结构性碳水化合物(NSC)、可溶性糖和淀粉含量,氮含量和氮分配比例(光合系统氮分配比例PP、细胞壁氮分配比例PCW和其他组分氮分配比例Pother)等参数进行对比分析,探讨其沿海拔的变化趋势,以及叶片NSC、可溶性糖和淀粉含量与氮分配间的相关关系。结果显示:大叶醉鱼草叶片NSC、可溶性糖、淀粉和单糖含量随海拔的升高而增加,而可溶性糖/淀粉比值未发生显著变化,表明高海拔较高的NSC含量的累积是由可溶性糖和淀粉含量共同决定的,而可溶性糖含量的增加主要由单糖含量的变化引起。叶片氮含量和PP在海拔间差异不显著,但PCW和Pother分别随海拔升高而降低和升高。此外,随海拔升高,叶片NSC/N比值随之增加,这主要归因于随海拔升高而增加的NSC含量而非海拔间差异不显著的氮含量。NSC含量和可溶性糖含量均与P...  相似文献

This study evaluates the relative contributions of leaves and roots to the belowground allelopathic effects of Mikania micrantha. The hypothesis that leaves contribute more to the allelopathic effect than roots was experimentally tested. We assessed the allelopathic effects of aqueous extracts from Mikania leaves and roots on the seed germination and seedling growth of two co-occurring woody plants in southern China, Lagerstroemia indica L. and Robinia pseudoacacia L. The results showed that the aqueous extracts from Mikania leaves and roots had inhibitory effects on the woody species. Allelopathic activity depended on the concentration of the extracts, target species, and the extract sources (i.e., leaves vs. roots of Mikania). Leaf extract showed stronger allelopathic effects than root extract on germination percentage, initial germination time, speed of germination, and shoot height; while root extract had greater allelopathic effects on roots than leaf extract. The latter phenomenon might greatly promote the invasion success of Mikania due to more direct and effective allelopathy of root. Our results suggest that allelopathy of root extract on belowground biomass might be greater than that of leaf extract for some species in contrast allelopathy of leaf extract on belowground biomass might also be greater than that of root extract for other species, at least for their effects on root growth of the target species.  相似文献

The present study was designed to evaluate in vitro antibacterial activity of herbal extracts against five plant pathogenic bacteria (viz. Xanthomonas campestris, Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. punicae, Erwinia spp., Pseudomonas syringae and Xanthomonas citri). Herbal extracts of leaves and rinds of Garcinia indica, rhizomes of Curcuma aromatica, roots of Glyccyrrhiza glabra, leaves of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis and seeds of Vernonia anthelmintica were used for screening. Screening was done using agar well diffusion method. Relatively potent extracts were shortlisted from this study and were further studied to find out their minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). From the studies, it was observed that extracts of C. aromatica, G. indica and G. glabra have shown lowest MBC values among other tested plant extracts. This study indicates the potential of these potent plant extracts in the management of diseases caused by plant pathogenic bacteria.  相似文献

The present study investigated the allelopathic effects of aqueous extracts of Castanea henryi litter on the growth and physiological responses of Brassica pekinensis and Zea mays. Treatment with high concentrations of leaf extract (0.05 g/ml for B. pekinensis and 0.10 g/ml for Z. mays) significantly increased malonaldehyde content and reduced seed germination, seedling growth, chlorophyll content, and the activity levels of antioxidant enzymes. These effects generally increased with increasing extract concentration. However, in Z. mays, low extract concentrations actually promoted seed germination, shoot growth, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant enzyme activity. The allelopathic effects of the various C. henryi extracts decreased as follows: leaf extract > twig extract > shell extract. Eleven potential allelochemicals including rutin, quercetin, luteolin, procyanidin A2, kaempferol, allantoin, propionic acid, salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, methylmalonic acid, and gentisic acid were identified in the leaves of C. henryi which were linked to the strongest allelopathic effects. These findings suggest that the allelopathic effects of C. henryi differ depending on receptor plant species, and that leaves are the most allelopathic litter in C. henryi.  相似文献

非结构性碳水化合物(non-structural carbohydrates, NSC)、氮(N)和磷(P)是植物生长的重要能源物质和影响植物分布的限制生长因子,圆叶玉兰(Magnolia sinensis)是四川省特有的珍稀濒危极小种群野生植物,研究其NSC、N和P可以反映它的营养供应水平及对环境的适应策略。选取芦山6个海拔梯度(1840,1960,2070,2170,2270,2390 m)的圆叶玉兰为对象,研究不同海拔下圆叶玉兰叶片中NSC与N、P及其化学计量间的关系。结果表明,圆叶玉兰叶片可溶性糖含量在2390 m处显著高于1840 m处, NSC含量在不同海拔差异极显著,随海拔增加呈"低-高-低"的单峰变化,2170 m处叶片NSC含量最高,碳水化合物供应充足;可溶性糖/淀粉的比值随海拔升高呈增大趋势,N含量和N/P比都随海拔上升而下降,且N/P比在各海拔上均小于14,NSC/N比在2390 m处显著高于1840 m处。总之,圆叶玉兰叶片的可溶性糖和NSC含量显著不受海拔的影响,较高的可溶性糖含量有利于抵御低温环境,其生长主要受氮元素限制而不受碳限制,反映了濒危植物圆叶玉兰在其有限的分布范围内NSC及N、P的保护策略,为圆叶玉兰的碳代谢和生长适应对策提供数据基础。  相似文献

Pinus elliottii is an exotic afforestation pine extensively distributed in southern parts of China. In order to understand whether endophytic fungi can affect seedling growth of P. elliottii, Piriformospora indica (Pi), Funnelifcrmis mosseae (Fm), and Diversispora tortuosa (Dt) were inoculated respectively, and the non-inoculated group was set as control. The growth indexes, the contents of soluble sugar and soluble protein, and plant endogenous hormone levels in the leaves of P. elliottii, were analyzed. The results showed that Fm, Dt and Pi colonized the P. elliottii roots to form mycorrhizal structure and chlamydospores arranged in beads respectively. Three fungal inoculants exhibited the stimulated growth responses, whilst Dt illustrated the most positive effect on plant height, single fresh weight, trunk diameter and root system structure, compared with the control. On the other hand, the soluble sugar and soluble protein contents were increased distinctively in mycorrhizal plants. The endogenous IAA, GA3, ZR contents were increased, while the ABA contents were reduced in mycorrhizal plants versus non-mycorrhizal plants. The fungi-induced endogenous hormone changes triggered plant growth improvement of P. elliottii seedlings. This research unraveled the positive effect of AM fungi and P. indica on growth of pine seedlings, while, more application of endophytic fungi to fields needs to be explored.  相似文献

Allelopathic performance of in vitro fresh green shoot, green, and brown shoot extracts including dry shoot powders of Artemisia judaica was evaluated through bioassay-guided studies using lettuce under laboratory conditions. The dry powders caused strong germination and growth inhibition of the lettuce seed tested. The green and brown shoot crude extracts of A. judaica also produced a strong germination and growth inhibition. The magnitude of inhibition in experiments with the brown shoot extracts was higher than that with the green shoot extracts. The lettuce seed incubated together with the fresh green shoots showed that the growth of lettuce was stimulated, while the germination of seed was delayed. The results show that there are different allelochemicals present in the exudates and volatiles of A. judaica. The shoot extracts under assay conditions showed a dose-dependent free radical scavenging effect of DPHH and a dose-dependent reduction of chlorophyll content from lettuce leaves. The antioxidant potential and total chlorophyll content of the lettuce leaf declined in all the shoot extract treatments. These results clearly indicate that the in vitro shoot of A. judaica contains some strong biologically active allelochemicals that are involved in plant growth regulation.  相似文献

Abstract

Laboratory bioassays were conducted to evaluate the potential of 13 plant extracts for the control of the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. Results indicated that the ethanol extracts of sea ambrosia (Ambrosia maritima), French cotton (Calotropis procera) and curcuma (Curcuma longa) have superior toxicity as compared to the extracts of other tested plants, estimated LC 50 were 0.723, 0.978 and 1.092%, respectively. In field experiments, the percentage of recovered date palm trees reached 90.91% within 15 days when A. maritima extract was applied. The injection of C. procera and C. longa extracts into the tunnels of infested trees resulted in 86.36% and 85.00% of tree recovery, respectively.  相似文献

The silverleaf whitefly is one of the most important pests found commonly in Iran and in the world. The development of alternative methods instead of chemical applications is necessary in pest management for human health and environment protection. The objective of this research was to assess the effects of extracts of two medicinal plant species: Calotropis procera and Allium sativum, and a formulation containing azadirachtin on fecundity and fertility of the silverleaf whitefly, grown on greenhouse tomato plants. The effects were compared to that of pymetrozine, a synthetic insecticide. According to the results, there was a significant difference among treatments for all reproductive parameters. Gross fecundity rates for pesticides control, herbal extract control, C. procera extract, A. sativum extract, azadirachtin and pymetrozine were 184.75, 146.72, 80.11, 82.18, 63.06 and 55.96 eggs, respectively. These herbal extracts were effective against this pest and they can be the suitable choices for replacing these chemical insecticides.  相似文献

Sugar is the primary product of photosynthesis in plant and plays a critical role in regulating plant growth and development. In this study, quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for total soluble sugar, sucrose, and fructose contents in rice grain were identified using a double haploid population derived from a cross between japonica CJ06 and indica TN1. A total of 17 QTLs, including four QTLs for total soluble sugar content, seven QTLs for sucrose content, and six QTLs for fructose content, were detected on chromosome 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8, with the LOD ranges from 2.61 to 3.85. Furthermore, among the determined varieties, we found that the total soluble sugar content in japonica showed higher than that in indica. Comparative genetic analysis showed that starch synthesis related gene is presumably involved in sugar-related metabolic activity in rice grain.  相似文献

The physiological responses and adaptive strategies of Populus euphratica Oliv. (arbor species), Tamarix ramosissima Ldb. (bush species), and Apocynum venetum L. (herb species) to variations in water and salinity stress were studied in the hyper-arid environment of the Tarim River in China. The groundwater table, the saline content of the groundwater, as well as the content of free proline, soluble sugars, plant endogenous hormones (abscisic acid (ABA), and cytokinins (CTK)) of the leaves of the three species were monitored and analyzed at the lower reaches of the Tarim River in the study area where five transects were fixed at 100 m intervals along a vertical sampling line before and after water release. Saline stress dramatically increased soluble sugar concentration of the three species. Differences in sugar accumulation were determined among the species at different transects. The free proline concentration of the leaves of T. ramosissima and P. euphratica showed a proportional decrease with various degrees of elevation of the groundwater table after water release. There was a least correlation between the soluble sugars and proline stimulation in T. ramosissima. It was strongly suggested that T. ramosissima developed a different strategy to accumulate organic solutes to adapt to the stress environment. The soluble sugars and proline accumulation responded to the changes of groundwater table independently: the former occurred under salt stress, whereas the latter was more significant under drought stress. The concentration and the increase in concentration of ABA and CTK involved in stress resistance of the three species were also determined. This increase in the hormone concentration in P. euphratica was different from that of the other two species. Expressed as a function of increase of ABA concentration in leaves, A. venetum and T. ramosissima showed a different solute accumulation in response to groundwater table. There was a significant correlation between ABA accumulation and Δ [proline] in A. venetum as well as between ABA accumulation and Δ [sugar] in T. ramosissima. Seasonal variation in sugar, total phenol and flavanol contents was examined inRhus, Euonymus andAcer leaves. In all plant leaves, the total phenol and flavanol content per leaf increased rapidly at the early growth stages but thereafter the content was kept rather constant. Later on, sugar content increased to a high level, and the autumnal reddening began. An excessive accumulation of sugar just before the reddening indicated that the accumulation related to the anthocyanin formation. The incorporation of radioactivity into anthocyanin in autumn leaves from glucose-[U-14C] and phenylalanine-[U-14C] was also observed. Part III in the series “The Autumnal Reddening of Leaves”.
