Aim: To determine the cold tolerance and plant growth promotion potential of Serratia marcescens strain SRM (MTCC 8708). Methods and Results: Serratia marcescens strain SRM was isolated from the flowers of summer squash plants, showing no apparent symptoms of yellow vine disease. It was evaluated for growth and plant growth promotion attributes at 15 and 4°C. At 15°C, the isolate was able to solubilize 76·6 μg ml?1 of P and produce Indole Acetic Acid, IAA (11·1 μg ml?1). HCN and siderophore production were also detected at 15°C. The isolate retained all the plant growth promotion traits at 4°C. Seed bacterization with the isolate significantly enhanced plant biomass and nutrient uptake of wheat seedlings grown in cold temperatures. Conclusion: Serratia marcescens strain SRM is a promising cold‐tolerant isolate that can significantly influence wheat seedling growth at cold temperatures. Significance and Impact of the Study: This strain can be employed as a bioinoculant in cold temperature conditions.  相似文献

Zucchini fruits were subjected to 2.5 or 10 degrees C for 16d, followed by transfer to 20 degrees C for 24h in order to evaluate the relationship between ripening pattern, measured as CO(2) evolution and ethylene (C(2)H(4)) production, and metabolic heat production (q). Chilling injury (CI) visible symptoms were evident after 8d at 2.5 degrees C, but none were recorded on fruits kept at 10 degrees C. In fruits held at 10 degrees C, q, C(2)H(4) production, and CO(2) evolution diminished in the course of 16d, whereas in those at 2.5 degrees C CO(2) evolution showed an early burst peaking at 8d. Both C(2)H(4) production and q also showed a burst at 2.5 degrees C but they started at 4 and 8d, respectively, and peaked at 12d. The results showed that irreversibility of chilling injury in zucchini could occur long before the appearance of visible symptoms, although the metabolic activity accompanying the irreversibility process was not noticeable by isothermal calorimetry.  相似文献

Summary Resistance to red pumpkin beetle in summer squash was found to be controlled by polygenes. Diallel and Triple test cross analysis revealed the preponderance of non-additive and additive gene effects for resistance respectively. Salinity is a major threat to crop production and global food security. Algae and their extracts containing bioactive compounds can enhance the salt tolerance of plants, including the salt-sensitive plants. The current study evaluated the efficacy of Dunaliella salina (Dunal) Teodoresco culture and/or its β-carotene extract in improving the salt tolerance of squash (Cucurbita pepo L. cv. Mabrouka). Amendment of C. pepo with D. salina culture and/or its β-carotene extract was more effective in alleviating the impact of moderate salinity imposed by seawater dilution of 2.5 dS m−1 than either low (0.55 dS m−1) or high (3.5 dS m−1) salinity, with a comparable effect to that of salicylic acid (SA). Plants that received a combination of D. salina culture and its β-carotene extract showed significantly higher growth (total biomass, fruit productivity) and physiological attributes (photosynthetic pigments, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K+) contents) than those receiving either amendment alone, reaching up to 80–90% of the SA-treated plants at moderate salinity (2.5 dS m−1). The combination could enhance the antioxidant activity of moderately salt-stressed C. pepo via increasing carotenoids and phenolics contents, suggesting that this combination could enhance the adaptation of C. pepo to the moderate salinity. The present study recommends using the blooms of D. salina and its β-carotene that is naturally secreted in situ in natural or synthetic open systems in improving the salt tolerance of C. pepo instead of using the expensive synthetic hormones.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s12298-022-01176-6.  相似文献

Basipetal auxin transport along the zucchini hypocotyl requires the cell-to-cell translocation of this hormone. Several authors have demonstrated that naphthylphthalamic acid (NPA) blocks auxin efflux. It is believed that NPA binds to a regulatory protein that modulates the activity of the carrier rather than to the carrier itself. A few regulatory mechanisms have been suggested but all lack strong supporting experimental evidence. Four classes of protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors (PTKIs) have been used to investigate the NPA perception pathway. First, six synthetic tyrphostins, inhibitors of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGF-R), were shown to displace NPA on plasmalemma fractions. The most potent compound was (3,4-dihydroxybenzylidene)-thiocyanoacetamide (tyrphostin A47). The inactive counterpart of tyrphostin A47, (4-methoxybenzylidene)-malononitrile (tyrphostin A1), was unable to displace NPA. Tyrphostins did not inhibit auxin efflux but were antagonists of the inhibition of auxin efflux by NPA. Again, tyrphostin A47 was the most effective and tyrphostin A1 was inactive. Second, the flavonoid genistein, also an EGF-R inhibitor, showed an effect on NPA binding and NPA antagonism similar to the one for the tyrphostins. Daidzein, the inactive counterpart of genistein, was ineffective in displacing NPA and in antagonizing its inhibition of auxin efflux. Two other PTKIs, curcumin and lavendustin A, displayed similar characteristics. Calmodulin antagonists, protein serine/threonine kinase inhibitors, and phosphatase inhibitors were inactive. These results suggest that the NPA binding protein may be related to mammalian tyrosine kinases and may regulate the auxin efflux carrier by phosphorylation.  相似文献

Natural occurrence of yellow mosaic disease was observed on Armenian cucumber (Cucumis melo var. flexuoses) and wild melon (C. callosus var. agrestis) with disease incidences of ~36 and ~27%, respectively. Association of tomato leaf curl Palampur virus (ToLCPV) with the disease was investigated by Polymersae chain reaction (PCR) using begomovirus-specific primers. Full-length genome was amplified by rolling circle amplification (RCA) method from representative samples of C. melo and C. callosus. RCA products obtained were cloned and sequenced. Analyses of sequence data revealed the presence of full-length begomoviral genome of 2756 nucleotides with the gene arrangement of a typical begomovirus: HQ848383 (C. melo) and GU253914 (C. callosus). Both the isolates shared 99% sequence identity together and high 97–99% identities and the closest phylogenetic relationships with ToLCPV strains reported worldwide, hence identified as two new members of ToLCPV. Natural occurrence of ToLCPV on C. melo and C. callosus is the first report.  相似文献

Leaf curl disease symptoms were observed in tomato crop grown in a tomato field at Matera district of Bahraich, India, in March 2013 with an 85% disease incidence. The infected plants exhibited leaf curl symptoms accompanied with puckering, vein swelling and stunting of the whole plant. PCR carried out with begomovirus coat protein gene and DNA beta‐specific primer sets resulted in positive amplification of ~775 bp and 1.35 kbp, respectively, with all symptom‐bearing plant samples. BLASTn and phylogenetic analyses of CP gene sequences showed highest and close relationship with Croton yellow vein mosaic virus (CYVMV) isolates, while the phylogenetic study of betasatellite sequence showed distinct relationships with other begomovirus associated betasatellites reported from India and abroad. This is a first report of a CYVMV associated with tomato leaf curl disease in India.  相似文献
