Antimicrobial peptides are small, cationic proteins that can induce lysis of bacterial cells through interaction with their membranes. Different mechanisms for cell lysis have been proposed, but these models tend to neglect the role of the chemical composition of the membrane, which differs between bacterial species and can be heterogeneous even within a single cell. Moreover, the cell envelope of Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli contains two membranes with differing compositions. To this end, we report the first molecular dynamics simulation study of the interaction of the antimicrobial peptide, polymyxin B1 with complex models of both the inner and outer membranes of E. coli. The results of >16 microseconds of simulation predict that polymyxin B1 is likely to interact with the membranes via distinct mechanisms. The lipopeptides aggregate in the lipopolysaccharide headgroup region of the outer membrane with limited tendency for insertion within the lipid A tails. In contrast, the lipopeptides readily insert into the inner membrane core, and the concomitant increased hydration may be responsible for bilayer destabilization and antimicrobial function. Given the urgent need to develop novel, potent antibiotics, the results presented here reveal key mechanistic details that may be exploited for future rational drug development.  相似文献

Leishmania are obligate intracellular parasites that invade and survive within host macrophages and can result in visceral leishmaniasis, a major public health problem worldwide. The entry of intracellular parasites, in general, involves interaction with the plasma membrane of host cells. Cholesterol in host cell membranes was recently shown to be necessary for binding and internalization of Leishmania and for the efficient presentation of leishmanial antigens in infected macrophages. This article describes the need to explore cyclodextrin-based compounds, which modulate host membrane cholesterol levels, as a possible therapeutic strategy against leishmaniasis in addition to other intracellular parasites.  相似文献

Viruses enter in cells through clathrin- and dinamin-mediated uptake route-endocytosis, caveolae-mediated local destruction of cell plasma membranes, and macropinocytosis. The non-enveloped viruses to which Picornaviridae famiy is attributed are important human and animal pathogens. The aim of this study was to examine the mechanisms of penetration of viruses of this family (polio-, echo 11-, entero 71- and coxsackie B1-viruses) into resident macrophages. After attachment to the plasma membrane of macrophages the enterovirus 71 and coxsackievirus B1 penetrated into macrophages by invagination of the plasma membrane and formation of intracytoplasmic vesicules - caveoles. The poliovirus entered macrophages both by caveols formation and local destruction of plasma membranes of the host cells. Macropinocytos of polioviruses was observed after 45 min contact. The echovirus 11 entered in host macrophages by local destruction of their plasma membranes during first 15 min. Then the formation of endocytosed vesicles with included viruses was observed. The echovirus 11 went out of endocytosed vesicles by local destruction of membrane vesicles.  相似文献

A variety of cysteine-containing, lipid-modified peptides are found to be S-acylated by cultured mammalian cells. The acylation reaction is highly specific for cysteinyl over serinyl residues and for lipid- modified peptides over hydrophilic peptides. The S-acylation process appears by various criteria to be enzymatic and resembles the S- acylation of plasma membrane-associated proteins in various characteristics, including inhibition by tunicamycin. The substrate range of the S-acylation reaction encompasses, but is not limited to, lipopeptides incorporating the motifs myristoylGC- and -CXC(farnesyl)- OCH3, which are reversibly S-acylated in various intracellular proteins. Mass-spectrometric analysis indicates that palmitoyl residues constitute the predominant but not the only type of S-acyl group coupled to a lipopeptide carrying the myristoylGC- motif, with smaller amounts of S-stearoyl and S-oleoyl substituents also detectable. Fluorescence microscopy using NBD-labeled cysteinyl lipopeptides reveals that the products of lipopeptide S-acylation, which cannot diffuse between membranes, are in almost all cases localized preferentially to the plasma membrane. This preferential localization is found even at reduced temperatures where vesicular transport from the Golgi complex to the plasma membrane is suppressed, strongly suggesting that the plasma membrane itself is the preferred site of S- acylation of these species. Uniquely among the lipopeptides studied, species incorporating an unphysiological N-myristoylcysteinyl- motif also show substantial formation of S-acylated products in a second, intracellular compartment identified as the Golgi complex by its labeling with a fluorescent ceramide. Our results suggest that distinct S-acyltransferases exist in the Golgi complex and plasma membrane compartments and that S-acylation of motifs such as myristoylGC- occurs specifically at the plasma membrane, affording efficient targeting of cellular proteins bearing such motifs to this membrane compartment.  相似文献

The C3 receptors of human peripheral blood monocytes are able to move laterally within the plasma membranes of the cells and remain mobile even when the cells develop into "macrophages" in vitro. In contrast, the C3 receptors of mouse peritoneal macrophages are immobile. To determine whether these differences are species differences or differences between cells of different stages of differentiation, we assessed the mobility of C3 receptors of mouse peripheral blood monocytes and of human pulmonary alveolar and peritoneal macrophages. The C3 receptors of mouse monocytes were mobile, whereas the C3 receptors of human tissue macrophages were immobile. The C3 receptors of macrophages mediate avid particle binding but do not normally promote ingestion. We have described a unique lymphokine that activates mouse peritoneal macrophage C3 receptors for phagocytosis by freeing them from their plasma membrane anchors. In the present experiments, we found that the lymphokine also freed the C3 receptors of human macrophages and activated them for phagocytosis. We conclude that the immobilization of C3 receptors appears to be a marker for the differentiation of human and mouse mononuclear phagocytes, that the differentiation of mononuclear phagocytes is influenced by the milieu in which the cells develop, that in vitro-differentiated macrophages may not accurately represent tissue macrophages, and that a lymphokine activates the C3 receptors of both human and mouse macrophages for phagocytosis by allowing the receptors lateral mobility within the cell plasma membrane.  相似文献

Linoleic acid hydroperoxide (LOOH) is a naturally occurring product of lipid peroxidation. Incubation of rat alveolar macrophages with LOOH produced alterations of membrane properties and function at concentrations of LOOH as low as 0.1 microM. These included phorbol myristate acetate (PMA)-stimulated superoxide production, mitochondrial membrane potential, and plasma membrane potentials. These effects were clearly separated from gross loss of structural integrity as measured by lactate dehydrogenase release, in terms of both time of incubation and concentration of LOOH. PMA-stimulated superoxide production measured 15 min after addition of 10 microM LOOH was inhibited approximately 50%; however, addition of this concentration of the hydroperoxide after PMA stimulation was without effect. Superoxide production was also measured in a cell-free system produced by incubation of alveolar macrophages with sodium dodecyl sulfate. Prior incubation of alveolar macrophages with LOOH, H2O2, or t-butyl hydroperoxide, under conditions that significantly inhibited superoxide production by the intact cells, did not produce inhibition of the NADPH-dependent superoxide generating system in the cell-free preparation. These results suggest that the effect of LOOH was upon signal transduction involved in the stimulation of superoxide production rather than on the NADPH oxidase itself. Measurements of membrane potential changes were made using the lipophilic ions, 3,3'-dipentyloxacarbocyanine (DiOC5(3] and bis(3-phenyl-5-oxoisoxazol-4-yl)pentamethineoxonol (oxonol V). On the basis of their charge, DiOC5(3) fluorescence primarily reports mitochondrial potential and oxonol V absorbance reports plasma membrane potential. With 10 microM LOOH, depolarization of the plasma and mitochondrial membranes appeared to occur within seconds. As prior depolarization depresses superoxide production, these hydroperoxide-induced changes in membrane potential may be responsible for decreased PMA-stimulated superoxide production.  相似文献

The formation and release of outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) is a phenomenon observed in many bacteria, including Legionella pneumophila. During infection, this human pathogen primarily invades alveolar macrophages and replicates within a unique membrane‐bound compartment termed Legionella‐containing vacuole. In the current study, we analysed the membrane architecture of L. pneumophila OMVs by small‐angle X‐ray scattering and biophysically characterized OMV membranes. We investigated the interaction of L. pneumophila OMVs with model membranes by Förster resonance energy transfer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. These experiments demonstrated the incorporation of OMV membrane material into liposomes composed of different eukaryotic phospholipids, revealing an endogenous property of OMVs to fuse with eukaryotic membranes. Cellular co‐incubation experiments showed a dose‐ and time‐dependent binding of fluorophore‐labelled OMVs to macrophages. Trypan blue quenching experiments disclosed a rapid internalization of OMVs into macrophages at 37 and 4°C. Purified OMVs induced tumour necrosis factor‐α production in human macrophages at concentrations starting at 300 ng ml?1. Experiments on HEK293‐TLR2 and TLR4/MD‐2 cell lines demonstrated a dominance of TLR2‐dependent signalling pathways. In summary, we demonstrate binding, internalization and biological activity of L. pneumophila OMVs on human macrophages. Our data support OMV membrane fusion as a mechanism for the remote delivery of virulence factors to host cells.  相似文献

Diluted India ink was instilled into the nasal cavity of mice and the lungs of some animals were fixed with osmium tetroxide at various intervals after one instillation. The lungs of other animals were fixed after 4, 7, 9, 16, or 18 daily instillations. The India ink was found to be phagocytized almost exclusively by the free alveolar macrophages. A few particles are occasionally seen within thin portions of alveolar epithelium, within the "small" alveolar epithelial cells, or within occasional leukocytes in the lumina of alveoli. The particles are ingested by an invagination process of the plasma membrane resulting in the formation of intracellular vesicles and vacuoles. Ultimately large amounts of India ink accumulate in the cell, occupying substantial portions of the cytoplasm. The surfaces of phagocytizing macrophages show signs of intense motility. Their cytoplasm contains numerous particles, resembling Palade particles, and a large amount of rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum. These structures are interpreted as indicative of protein synthesis. At the level of resolution achieved in this study the membranes of this reticulum appear as single dense "lines." On the other hand, the plasma membrane and the limiting membranes of vesicles and of vacuoles often exhibit the double-line structure typical of unit membranes (Robertson, 37). The inclusion bodies appear to be the product of phagocytosis. It is believed that some of them derive from the vacuoles mentioned above, and that they correspond to similar structures seen in phase contrast cinemicrographs of culture cells. Their matrix represents phagocytized material. Certain structures within this matrix are considered as secondary and some of these structures possess an ordered form probably indicative of the presence of lipid. The possible origin and the fate of alveolar macrophages are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Epithelial cells and surrounding free cells in the choroid plexus were examined cytochemically using filipin to clarify the distribution pattern of cholesterol within plasma membranes. The apical and basal membranes of the choroid epithelial cell are less susceptible to filipin than the lateral epithelial membrane and plasma membranes of adjacent mesenchymal cells such as macrophages and fibroblasts. Apical and basal domains of the epithelial membranes, which are relatively resistant to action of filipin, appear to have a slightly lower cholesterol content. We suggest that the apical and basal membranes may possess a unique membrane fluidity or stability that differs from that of the lateral epithelial, macrophage or fibroblast membranes.  相似文献

We have observed increases in assembled clathrin on the plasma membrane during "frustrated phagocytosis," the spreading of macrophages on immobilized immune complexes. Resident macrophages freshly harvested from the peritoneal cavity of mice and attached to bovine serum albumin (BSA)-anti-BSA-coated surfaces at 4 degrees C had almost no clathrin basketworks on their adherent plasma membrane (less than 0.01 coated patch/micron 2), as observed by immunofluorescence, immunoperoxidase, and platinum-carbon replica techniques, although abundant assembled clathrin was observed in the perinuclear Golgi region. When the cells were warmed to 37 degrees C they started to spread by 4 min and reached their maximum extent by 20 min. Spreading preceded clathrin assembly at the plasma membrane. Clathrin-coated patches were first observed on the adherent plasma membrane at 6 min. Between 12 and 20 min assembled clathrin coats appeared on both adherent and nonadherent plasma membranes with a concomitant decrease in identifiable clathrin in the perinuclear region. A new steady state emerged by 2 h, as perinuclear clathrin began to reappear. At 20 min at 37 degrees C the adherent plasma membranes of macrophages spreading on BSA alone had 0.9 coated patch/micron 2, whereas in cells spread on immune complex-coated surfaces, the clathrin patches increased, dependent on ligand concentration, to a maximum of 2.1 coated patches/micron 2. Because frustrated phagocytosis of immune complex-coated surfaces at 37 degrees C increased the area of adherent plasma membrane, the total area coated by clathrin basket-works increased 5-fold (28 micron 2/cell) as compared with cells plated on BSA alone (5.6 micron 2/cell) and 200-fold as compared with cells adhering to immune complexes at 4 degrees C. We then determined that macrophages cultured on BSA-coated coverslips for 24 h already have abundant surface clathrin. When immune complexes were formed by the addition of anti-BSA IgG to already spread macrophages cultured on BSA-coated coverslips for 24 h, clathrin assembled at the sites of ligand-receptor interaction even at 4 degrees C, before spreading, and a 2.6-fold increase in assembled clathrin was observed on the adherent plasma membrane of cells on immune complexes as compared with cells on BSA alone. Gluconobacter oxydans is well known for the limited oxidation of compounds and rapid excretion of industrially important oxidation products. The dehydrogenases responsible for these oxidations are reportedly bound to the cell's plasma membrane. This report demonstrates that fully viable G. oxydans differentiates at the end of exponential growth by forming dense regions at the end of each cell observed with the light microscope. When these cells were thin sectioned, their polar regions contained accumulations of intracytoplasmic membranes and ribosomes not found in undifferentiated exponentially growing cells. Both freeze-fracture-etched whole cells and thin sections through broken-cell envelopes of differentiated cells demonstrate that intracytoplasmic membranes occur as a polar accumulation of vesicles that are attached to the plasma membrane. When cells were tested for the activity of the plasma membrane-associated glycerol dehydrogenase, those containing intracytoplasmic membranes were 100% more active than cells lacking these membranes. These results suggest that intracytoplasmic membranes are formed by continued plasma membrane synthesis at the end of active cell division.  相似文献

Freeze fracture studies have been performed on rabbit pulmonary alveolar macrophages and a nonphagocytic murine lymphoblastoid cell line, PU-5 Fc+, incubated with sheep erythrocytes, sheep erythrocyte-IgG Forssman antibody complex, sheep erythrocyte-IgG Forssman antibody-C complexes and aggregated IgG. Alveolar macrophages show redistribution of intramembrane particles after interaction with (EIgG) and E(IgM)C. The murine lymphoblastoid cell line shows intramembrane particle redistribution consequential to binding of E(IgG) and aggregated IgG. The results demonstrate that after specific immunoprotein receptor-ligand interaction, there is extensive plasma membrane reorganization which results in a redistribution and loss of intramembrane particles. Changes are observed in the protoplasmic face of the plasma membrane after the binding of ligand to the outer membrane surface. The findings suggest that interaction of erthrocyte-bound ligands with specific lymphoid and macrophage plasma membrane receptors leads to a generalized redistribution of integral membrane components in the membrane.  相似文献

Dwarf mistletoes, genus Arceuthobium , are parasitic flowering plants and forest pests. In western North America, Arceuthobium americanum (lodgepole pine dwarf mistletoe) is principally found on Pinus contorta var. latifolia (lodgepole pine). Dwarf mistletoes disperse their seeds by an explosive process that involves the buildup of hydrostatic pressure within a mucilaginous fruit tissue called the 'viscin'. Living viscin tissue envelops the discharged seeds. This study examined the possibility that aquaporins, critical in plant water relations, might be found in the dwarf mistletoe fruit, specifically the viscin cells. An antibody raised against a tobacco plasma membrane intrinsic 2 (PIP2) aquaporin was used with a gold-labeled secondary antibody to probe dwarf mistletoe fruit at various developmental stages. Viscin cell plasma membranes were successfully labeled with the anti-tobacco probe, and the validity of the immunolabeling was supported by Western blot analysis, showing a strong signal at about 30 kDa, which is at the expected size of a PIP2. A definitive immunolabeling pattern, supported by quantification of gold signal per membrane length, was observed: viscin cells sampled early in development had abundant gold label at their plasma membranes (1.93 ± 0.13 to 2.13 ± 0.33 gold particles per μm membrane), while other areas of the cells had no discernible label. Viscin cells sampled near the time of explosive discharge had significantly less label at the plasma membrane (0.21 gold particles ± 0.11 per μm membrane, P   <   0.05), and label was seen at vesicular membranes. Aquaporins likely have a role in directing water to the viscin mucilage early in development, but are retrieved via endocytosis to prevent excess water loss from viscin cells when discharge is imminent.  相似文献

The interaction of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) Gag protein with the plasma membrane of a cell is a critical event in the assembly of HIV particles. The matrix protein region (MA) of HIV type 1 (HIV-1) Pr55Gag has previously been demonstrated to confer membrane-binding properties on the precursor polyprotein. Both the myristic acid moiety and additional determinants within MA are essential for plasma membrane binding and subsequent particle formation. In this study, we demonstrated the myristylation-dependent membrane interaction of MA in an in vivo membrane-binding assay. When expressed within mammalian cells, MA was found both in association with cellular membranes and in a membrane-free form. In contrast, the intact precursor Pr55Gag molecule analyzed in an identical manner was found almost exclusively bound to membranes. Both membrane-bound and membrane-free forms of MA were myristylated and phosphorylated. Differential membrane binding was not due to the formation of multimers, as dimeric and trimeric forms of MA were also found in both membrane-bound and membrane-free fractions. To define the requirements for membrane binding of MA, we analyzed the membrane binding of a series of MA deletion mutants. Surprisingly, deletions within alpha-helical regions forming the globular head of MA led to a dramatic increase in overall membrane binding. The stability of the MA-membrane interaction was not affected by these deletions, and no deletion eliminated membrane binding of the molecule. These results establish that myristic acid is a primary determinant of the stability of the Gag protein-membrane interaction and provide support for the hypothesis that a significant proportion of HIV-1 MA molecules may adopt a conformation in which myristic acid is hidden and unavailable for membrane interaction.  相似文献

The activation of T lymphocytes for immunity to the intracellular pathogen Listeria monocytogenes requires that Ia-positive macrophages ingest the bacteria. The subsequent handling of Listeria by macrophages was examined in this report and related to antigen presentation to T cells. Macrophages pulsed with radiolabeled Listeria, besides releasing acid-soluble radioactivity--an indication of extensive catabolism of the Listeria-derived proteins--were also found to release acid-insoluble peptides. The rate of release of the peptides was not markedly affected by treatment with chloroquine, ammonia, or monensin and was independent of the state of activation and the level of Ia expression of the macrophage. The peptides were not associated with fragments of membranes and were represented by several molecular species. Listeria-derived peptides were also found associated with the macrophage plasma membrane. The membrane-associated peptides behaved like integral membrane proteins and could be released by proteases or detergents. Their expression was independent of the dose of Listeria and the level of Ia expression of the macrophage, and their presence could not be inhibited by protease inhibitors or chloroquine. The Listeria peptides released by the macrophages were very weakly immunogenic in a T cell proliferation assay. Purified plasma membranes from Listeria-pulsed macrophages, which contained membrane-associated Listeria peptides, were not immunogenic by themselves but could be reprocessed by additional macrophages to subsequently stimulate T cells. Trypsin treatment of Listeria-pulsed macrophages did not cause a significant reduction in their ability to stimulate T cells. No association was found between Ia molecules and either the membrane-associated or the released peptides with the use of several technical approaches. Hence, after internalization of Listeria, potentially immunogenic material can be found at the cell surface as well as in the culture fluid. The release of soluble peptides is a clear indication that proteins can be recycled after their internalization in vesicles.  相似文献

Clathrin-coated vesicles bud from selected cellular membranes to traffic-specific intracellular proteins. To study the dynamic properties of clathrin-coated membranes, we expressed clathrin heavy chain tagged with green fluorescent protein (GFP) in Dictyostelium cells. GFP-clathrin was functional and retained the native properties of clathrin: the chimeric protein formed classic clathrin lattices on cellular membranes and also rescued phenotypic defects of clathrin null cells. GFP-clathrin distributed into punctate loci found throughout the cytoplasm, on the plasma membrane, and concentrated to a perinuclear location. These clathrin-coated structures were remarkably motile and capable of rapid and bidirectional transport across the cell. We identified two local domains of the plasma membrane as sites for clathrin recruitment in motile cells. First, as cells translocated or changed shape and retracted their tails, clathrin was transiently concentrated on the membrane at the back of the cell tail. Second, as cells capped their cell surface receptors, clathrin was recruited locally to the membrane under the tight cap of cross-linked receptors. This suggests that local sites for clathrin polymerization on specific domains of the plasma membrane undergo rapid and dynamic regulation in motile cells.  相似文献

Heat shock proteins (hsps) are intracellular chaperones that play a key role in the recovery from stress. Hsp70, the major stress-induced hsp, has been found in the extracellular medium and is capable of activating immune cells. The mechanism involved in Hsp70 release is controversial because this protein does not present a consensual secretory signal. In this study, we have shown that Hsp70 integrates into artificial lipid bilayer openings of ion conductance pathways. In addition, this protein was found inserted into the plasma membrane of cells after stress. Hsp70 was released into the extracellular environment in a membrane-associated form, sharing the characteristics of this protein in the plasma membrane. Extracellular membranes containing Hsp70 were at least 260-fold more effective than free recombinant protein in inducing TNF-alpha production as an indicator of macrophage activation. These observations suggest that Hsp70 translocates into the plasma membrane after stress and is released within membranous structures from intact cells, which could act as a danger signal to activate the immune system.  相似文献

Liposomes have been used primarily as a model system for studying biological membranes. Numerous chemical, biochemical and biophysical methods have been used to elucidate the various aspects of the interaction between proteins or peptides and phospholipids. Having in mind the potential use of synthetic lipopeptides as antiviral therapies and aiming for a better understanding of the molecular interaction of the GBV-C/HGV with liposomes as model membranes, epitopes of GBV-C/HGV located at the E2 (99-118) and NS3(440-460) regions were selected. Peptides were modified at the N-terminus with acyl chains of different length (C(14) and C(16)) yielding the corresponding myristoil and palmytoil lipopeptides. The main aim of the present study was to get insight into the membrane-interacting properties of the above-described synthetic lipopeptides and to study their inhibition of the capacity of perturbing model membranes of fusion peptide of HIV-1 using fluorescence spectroscopy. In an attempt to establish a relationship between peptide membrane activity and structure, we use Circular Dichroism (CD) and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).  相似文献

The Src-related tyrosine kinase p56(lck) (Lck) is primarily expressed in T lymphocytes where it localizes to the cytosolic side of the plasma membrane and associates with the T cell coreceptors CD4 and CD8. As a model for acylated proteins, we studied how this localization of Lck is achieved. We followed newly synthesized Lck by pulse-chase analysis and found that membrane association of Lck starts soon after synthesis, but is not complete until at least 30-45 min later. Membrane-binding kinetics are similar in CD4/CD8-positive and CD4/CD8-negative cells. In CD4-positive T cells, the interaction with CD4 rapidly follows membrane association of Lck. Studying the route via which Lck travels from its site of synthesis to the plasma membrane, we found that: CD4 associates with Lck within 10 min of synthesis, long before CD4 has reached the plasma membrane; Lck associates with intracellular CD4 early after synthesis and with cell surface CD4 at later times; and transport of CD4-bound Lck to the plasma membrane is inhibited by Brefeldin A. These data indicate that the initial association of newly synthesized Lck with CD4, and therefore with membranes, occurs on intracellular membranes of the exocytic pathway. During normal tissue remodeling, macrophages remove unwanted cells, including those that have undergone programmed cell death, or apoptosis. This widespread process extends to the deletion of thymocytes (negative selection), in which cells expressing inappropriate Ag receptors undergo apoptosis, and are phagocytosed by thymic macrophages. Although phagocytosis of effete leukocytes by macrophages has been known since the time of Metchnikoff, only recently has it been recognized that apoptosis leads to surface changes that allow recognition and removal of these cells before they are lysed. Our data suggest that macrophages specifically recognize phosphatidylserine that is exposed on the surface of lymphocytes during the development of apoptosis. Macrophage phagocytosis of apoptotic lymphocytes was inhibited, in a dose-dependent manner, by liposomes containing phosphatidyl-L-serine, but not by liposomes containing other anionic phospholipids, including phosphatidyl-D-serine. Phagocytosis of apoptotic lymphocytes was also inhibited by the L isoforms of compounds structurally related to phosphatidylserine, including glycerophosphorylserine and phosphoserine. The membranes of apoptotic lymphocytes bound increased amounts of merocyanine 540 dye relative to those of normal cells, indicating that their membrane lipids were more loosely packed, consistent with a loss of membrane phospholipid asymmetry. Apoptotic lymphocytes were shown to express phosphatidylserine (PS) externally, because PS on their surfaces was accessible to derivatization by fluorescamine, and because apoptotic cells expressed procoagulant activity. These observations suggest that apoptotic lymphocytes lose membrane phospholipid asymmetry and expose phosphatidylserine on the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane. Macrophages then phagocytose apoptotic lymphocytes after specific recognition of the exposed PS.  相似文献
