The spatial distribution of species and subspecies of the genus Calliptamus Aud-Serv., 1831 in Turkmenistan was investigated. The population dynamics of abundant and economically significant locust species was analyzed. Data on the biology and ecology of Calliptamus species under the conditions of climate change are reported. Areas of co-existence of the dominant and rare Calliptamus species in Turkmenistan are detected for the first time.  相似文献

Strains IMI 330189 of Metarhizium acridum (Driver & Milner) J.F. Bisch., Rehner & Humber (Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae) and EABb 90/2-Dm of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.-Criv.) Vuill. (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) are a promising biocontrol tool of Dociostaurus maroccanus (Thunberg) (Orthoptera: Acrididae), although the effects of thermoregulation and Moroccan locust-fever on the infection process of these fungi remain unknown. In vitro experiments, measuring conidial germination and hyphal growth either at constant or at fluctuating temperatures simulating thermoregulatory conditions, indicated that strain IMI 330189 had greater fitness at temperatures above 27 °C and the strain EABb 90/2-Dm was better adapted to the temperature range of 10–25 °C. These effects were mirrored in vivo, where locust thermoregulation caused a marked reduction in the virulence of EABb 90/2-Dm in comparison to no thermoregulation conditions (average survival time: 6.10 vs. 15.83 days; mortality: 100% vs. 73.7%) but only a moderate reduction in the virulence of IMI 330189 (average survival time: 4.57 vs. 8.26 days; mortality: 100% vs. 100%). Thermal gradient experiments revealed that the strain IMI 330189 induced behavioral fever in D. maroccanus (preferred temperatures approximately 4 °C above the uninfected control), although it only led to a slight reduction in virulence. Strain EABb 90/2-Dm did not induce such a clear behavioral response. Under the temperature conditions of the main breeding areas of the Moroccan locust, strain IMI 330189 is likely a better candidate for use in biocontrol, although strain EABb 90/2-Dm could be also a good alternative in more temperate environments either as a stand-alone one or in mixed combinations of the two fungal strains, potentially providing more effective control over a broader range of temperatures.  相似文献

Dermacentor reticulatus is the second most important tick species in Poland. Although the north-eastern region of Poland is considered typical for D. reticulatus and is treated as a contiguous area of Eastern populations of the meadow ticks, the occurrence of this tick species in this region to date has been recorded as separate foci. The present report supplements data on the geographical distribution of D. reticulatus in urban and natural biotopes of north-eastern Poland (Warmia and Mazury province). In 2015–2017 (during the springtime activity of ticks) adult questing D. reticulatus were found in 13 of 25 monitored localities. Six sites are located in urbanized areas, within the administrative borders of the city of Olsztyn and seven sites are in natural biotopes in the central part of Warmia and Mazury. A total of 398 adult D. reticulatus ticks, including 257 females and 141 males, were collected. A comparison of data grouped according to urban and natural type of area revealed no statistical differences between them. Taking into account the habitat type, the mean tick density was the highest in open landscapes. The identification of new foci D. reticulatus in the endemic areas of Lyme borreliosis, tick-borne encephalitis and canine babesiosis is crucial for determining the risk of diseases transmitted by ticks and taking proper preventive measures.  相似文献

In the Karakum Desert (Turkmenistan) the beetles Trigonoscelis gigas are only active in the morning and evening while T. sublaevicollis are strictly nocturnal, regardless of the season and weather. The daily activity rhythm of T. gigas and T. sublaevicollis was studied in the laboratory according to the following pattern: 5 days under a light-darkness cycle of 15: 9 h (LD 15: 9), then 10 days in constant darkness (DD), and then 10 more days under alternating 1-h pulses of light and darkness (LD 1: 1). The temperature was 25°C in all the modes. At LD 15: 9, beetles of both species maintained a 24-h period and a natural pattern of the activity rhythm. In DD, the circadian rhythm ran with a period of 23.5 ± 0.3 h (n = 40) in T. gigas and 23.6 ± 0.4 h (n = 40) in T. sublaevicollis. At DD, the morning and evening activity peaks of T. gigas merged to form a rhythm with only one peak. Under LD 1: 1, both T. gigas and T. sublaevicollis recovered a 24-h period of the rhythm, while the rhythm of T. gigas regained the two-peak structure. Our research confirmed the assumption of Tshernyshev (1980) about the 24-h period of the free-running endogenous rhythm and the distorting effect of constant conditions on this rhythm.  相似文献

The demand for natural food colorants is growing as consumers question the use of artificial colorants more and more. The phycobiliprotein C-phycocyanin of Arthospira platensis is used as a natural blue colorant in certain food products. The thermoacidophilic red microalga Cyanidioschyzon merolae might provide an alternative source of phycocyanin. Cyanidioschyzon merolae belongs to the order Cyanidiophyceae of the phylum Rhodophyta. Its natural habitat are sulfuric hot springs and geysers found near volcanic areas in, e.g., Yellowstone National Park in the USA and in Java, Indonesia. It grows optimally at a pH between 0.5 and 3.0 and at temperatures up to 56 °C. The low pH at which C. merolae grows minimizes the risk of microbial contamination and could limit production loss. As C. merolae lacks a cell wall, phycocyanin with a high purity number of 9.9 could be extracted by an osmotic shock using a simple ultrapure water extraction followed by centrifugation. The denaturation midpoint at pH 5 was 83 °C, being considerably higher than the A. platensis phycocyanin (65 °C). The C. merolae phycocyanin was relatively stable at pH 4 and 5 up to 80 °C. The high thermostability at slightly acidic pH makes the C. merolae phycocyanin an interesting alternative to A. platensis phycocyanin as a natural blue food colorant.  相似文献

Saltcedars are woody plants in the genus Tamarix L. (Caryophyllales: Tamaricaceae) and are native to Eurasia and Africa. Several species have become invasive in the Americas, Australia and South Africa. In Argentina there are four species of Tamarix distributed in arid, semi-arid and coastal areas of most provinces. The taxonomic isolation of Tamarix spp. in Argentina, their widespread distribution, negative impact to natural areas and lack of impact from existing natural enemies all indicate that Tamarix is an ideal candidate for classical biological control in Argentina. Biological control of Tamarix spp. has been rapid and highly successful in the USA after the introduction of four Diorhabda spp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae). Biological control of Tamarix spp. in Argentina could be implemented easily, rapidly, and at a low cost by utilizing the information developed in the USA.  相似文献

As a result of search for species and strains of entomopathogenic fungi and bacteria virulent to migratory locust (Locusta migratoria migratoria L.), combinations were found which cause high mortality of insect in a short time interval. Four or five days after the L. migratoria had been infected with Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill and Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorokin a sharp increase in nymphas’ mortality was observed, reaching 95–100% on the 13th to 17th day after inoculation. The mortality of L. migratoria after infection with Pseudomonas sp. bacteria was approximately 30–50% on the 3rd to 7th day of the experiment. Later deaths of the locusts were not observed. When we made synchronous inoculation with fungi and bacteria, the rate of nymphas’ mortality was higher in comparison with monoinfections, and LT50 was about three days. Microbiological analysis of the dead insects showed that both pathogens could coexist in the locust. To determine the antagonism between Pseudomonas and fungi on a synthetic nutrient medium, the blocking method was used. We showed that the fungi do not affect the development of the bacterium, and the Pseudomonas has an insignificant effect on the fungi growth.  相似文献

Two new species of oribatid mites of the genus Galumna (Oribatida, Galumnidae) are described from litter and soil in the Korup National Park, Cameroon. Galumna korupensis sp. n. differs from Galumna tricuspidata Engelbrecht, 1969 by the smaller body size, the presence of two oval postanal porose areas, one tooth on each lamellar lines and striate genital plates, and the absence of median pore and lateral teeth on the rostrum. Galumna cameroonica sp. n. differs from Galumna incisa Mahunka, 1982 by the presence of long cilia on bothridial heads, band-like postanal porose area, striate genital plates, three pairs of notogastral porose areas, and the position of notogastral lyrifissures im.  相似文献

The non-native kelp, Undaria pinnatifida, is considered one of the world’s worst invasive species. The northeast Atlantic is a hotspot of Undaria invasion, yet there is limited knowledge on its invasion dynamics. In the UK its distribution is strongly associated with artificial structures, primarily marina and harbour pontoons, with relatively few records of Undaria on natural substrates. Here, the southwest UK is used as a case region, to explicitly link Undaria distribution-abundance patterns in artificial marina habitats with those in natural rocky reef habitats. Using a mixture of in situ recording and video survey techniques, Undaria was found at all thirteen marina sites surveyed; but in only 17 of 35 rocky reef sites, all of which were in 2 of the 5 larger systems surveyed (Plymouth Sound and Torbay). The distribution-abundance patterns of Undaria at reef sites were analysed using zero-inflated models. The probability of finding Undaria on rocky reef increased with increasing proximity to marinas with high abundances of Undaria. Total propagule pressure from marinas also increased the probability of occurrence, and was positively related to Undaria abundance and cover at reef sites. Increases in the cover of native kelps, Laminaria spp., and wave exposure at reef sites were linked to a reduced probability of Undaria occurrence, and lower abundance and cover. Identifying high risk areas, natural boundaries and factors affecting the spread and abundance of non-native species in natural habitats is key to future management prioritisation. Where Undaria is confined to artificial substrates management may be deemed a low priority. However, the results of this study suggest that controlling the abundance and propagule pressure in artificial habitats may limit, to some extent, the spillover of Undaria into natural rocky reef habitats, where it has the potential to interact with and influence native communities.  相似文献

Hybridization between alien and native species is biologically very important and could lead to genetic erosion of native taxa. Solidago × niederederi was discovered over a century ago in Austria and described by Khek as a natural hybrid between the alien (nowadays regarded also as invasive) S. canadensis and native S. virgaurea. Although interspecific hybridization in the genus Solidago is considered to be relatively common, hybrid nature of S. × niederederi has not been independently proven using molecular tools, to date. Because proper identification of the parentage for the hybrid Solidago individuals solely based on morphological features can be misleading, in this paper we report an additive polymorphism pattern expressed in the ITS sequences obtained from individuals representing S. × niederederi, and confirm the previous hypothesis that the parental species of this hybrid are S. canadensis and S. virgaurea. Additionally, based on variability at the cpDNA rpl32-trnL locus, we showed that in natural populations hybridization occurs in both directions.  相似文献
