To evaluate the attractiveness of several mushroom‐growing substrates to the female mushroom fly Lycoriella ingenua (Dufour) (Diptera: Sciaridae), a pest of the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus (JE Lange) Emil J Imbach (Agaricales), we developed a two‐choice, static‐flow olfactometer. Behavioral assays using this olfactometer indicated that mushroom compost with A. bisporus mycelia growing in it was not more attractive than compost lacking growing mycelia. We also found that female flies were more attracted to compost lacking A. bisporus mycelia than to the actual commodity, the white button mushroom fruiting bodies. Flies were not, however, attracted to sterilized compost, suggesting the attraction is due to volatiles produced by microbial metabolism in the compost. We also found that female L. ingenua flies were attracted to the mycoparasitic green mold Trichoderma aggressivum Samuels & W Gams (Hypocreales). Flies preferred mushroom compost that had T. aggressivum growing in it over compost lacking T. aggressivum, providing an experimental outcome consistent with the anecdotal belief that L. ingenua flies are vectors of T. aggressivum spores that can infest mushroom‐growing houses.  相似文献

Nationalization and Globalization Trends in the Wild Mushroom Commerce of Italy with Emphasis on Porcini ( Boletus edulis and Allied Species). This paper presents an historical overview of wild mushroom commerce in Italy, with a focus on recent trends in the production of porcini (Boletus edulis and closely allied species). Over the past century, two major trends—nationalization and globalization—have been apparent in the wild mushroom commerce of Italy. First, a simplified national mushroom menu has emerged through processes of governmental regulation and culinary fashion, but it has come at the expense of differing, localized mushroom traditions which may suffer under the European Union’s free trade principles. Second, Italy has emerged as a focal point of a global market for a small number of mushroom species—particular porcini. While the name porcini has become synonymous with Italian cuisine, and in spite of a vibrant tradition of recreational mushroom collecting in Italy, most of the porcini commercially available in Italy or exported by Italy are no longer of Italian origin. Porcini and other mushrooms now flow into Italy from all over the world—especially from China and eastern Europe—and are then often exported as “Italian porcini.” This globalization of the wild mushroom trade, while offering significant income to rural producers and processors around the globe, has other effects as well, for example, a kind of national branding as “Italian” of globally-produced products, of which porcini is one, that is in direct opposition to some of the European Union’s rules for regional denominations.

In trials conducted in a mushroom crop grown in commercial growing bags and inoculated with the dipteran pest,Lycoriella solani, and/or the predatory miteParasitus bituberosus, the mite reduced adult pest numbers ty 50–66%. It also reduced the numbers of larvalHeteropeza pygmaea, a second dipteran pest which occurred as a contaminant in one trial. Fewer mites were extracted towards the end of the cropping period. No evidence was found of an oscillating relationship between predator and prey over the trial period. Crop yield was increased by 18% and unsaleable yield was reduced by 50%. It is suggested that the mite can contribute to an integrated pest management system.  相似文献

In visual operant conditioning ofDrosophila at the flight simulator, only motor output of flies—yaw torque—is recorded, which is involved in the conditioning process. The current study used a newly-designed data analysis method to study the torque distribution ofDrosophila. Modification of torque distribution represents the effects of operant conditioning on flies’ behavioral mode. Earlier works[10] showed that, when facing contradictory visual cues, flies could make choices based upon the relative weightiness of different cues, and it was demonstrated that mushroom bodies might play an important role in such choice behavior. The new “torque-position map” method was used to explore the CS-US associative learning and choice behavior inDrosophila from the aspect of its behavioral mode. Finally, this work also discussed various possible neural bases involved in visual associative learning, choice processing and modification processing of the behavioral mode in the visual operant conditioning ofDrosophila.  相似文献

Since Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) was first detected at the end of 2006 in the Mediterranean Basin, several endemic natural enemies have been reported to prey on this exotic pest. The predator Nesidiocoris tenuis Reuter (Hemiptera: Miridae) can regulate T. absoluta populations, because it is able to prey efficiently on T. absoluta eggs. Furthermore, previous studies have demonstrated that first-instar larvae of T. absoluta are highly susceptible to Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) treatments. In this work, we tested the combination of both approaches under greenhouse conditions. B. thuringiensis formulations were sprayed weekly for two months, three months or throughout the growing cycle, and in all cases, one N. tenuis per plant was also released. Control plants were completely destroyed by the infestation levels reached by T. absoluta. In contrast, all treatments based on B. thuringiensis treatments and releases of N. tenuis reduced leaf damage by more than 97% when compared to the untreated control, with no significant differences among them. Furthermore, yield in the control plants was significantly reduced when compared with all Bt–N. tenuis treatments. Our results demonstrate that when B. thuringiensis treatments are applied immediately after the initial detection of T. absoluta on plants, they do not interfere with N. tenuis establishment in the crop because T. absoluta eggs are available. According to our data, treatments with B. thuringiensis later in the growing season would no longer be necessary because mirids alone would control the pest.  相似文献

Considering the growing interest for mushrooms and the demand search of natural antioxidants sources, the aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant properties of two edible widely used Boletus species, Boletus edulis, and Boletus auranticus, collected from Istra region in Croatia in late summer 2007. To evaluate the antioxidant properties and content of antioxidant compounds, scavenging capacity on DPPH˙, OH˙, and O2˙ radicals, reducing power and capacity to inhibit lipid peroxidation has been investigated. It is determined that content of total phenols (41.82 ± 0.08 mg gallic acid equivalent per gram of dry extract) was higher for B. edulis. Using high performance liquid chromatography/diode array detector analysis, the main antioxidant compound, variegatic acid, has been detected and quantified. 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate assay was used as a preliminary free radical–scavenging evaluation. By this assay, it has been found that B. edulis dry mushroom extract exhibits 50% of inhibition value at the extract concentration of 0.016 ± 0.0003 mg/ml. The extracts were capable of reducing iron(III) and, thus, are capable of donating electrons. Using electron paramagnetic resonance spin-trapping and spin-probing techniques, activity against relevant reactive species, ˙OH and O2˙ radical, was analyzed for both mushroom extracts. Both investigated extracts are determined as good inhibitors for ˙OH radical reduction, and both exhibited significant capacity for scavenging O2˙ radical and for that could help to prevent or meliorate oxidative damage. Only B. edulis extract prevents lipid peroxidation. Investigated mushroom extracts could represent easily accessible natural antioxidant resource.  相似文献

The pygmephoroid mite, Brennandania lambi (Krczal), is the most serious mite pest of mushroom production in Shanghai. China. This mite could not develop and reproduce on the mycelia of Lentinus edodes, Flammulina velutipes, Pleurotus ostreatus or Pleutotus sajor-caju, but 12–20% of the females survived 15 to 31 days on these hosts, whereas all mites died after 8 days in absence of food. When fed the mycelia of Auricularia polytricha, B. lambi adults could become gravid and reproduce but active larvae failed to develop to the next stage. B. lambi developed and reproduced on the mycelia of Auricularia auricula, Hericium erinaceus, Tremella fuciformis and Agaricus bisporus. Mobile stages of B. lambi damage A. bisporus by feeding on its mycelia. Field surveys of mite damage during 1983–1989 in the suburbs of Shanghai revealed that contaminated spawn was the major source of the mite problem and losses of the crop averaged between 10% and 20%. Experiments on the effects of temperature on mite survival indicate that exposure of mites at 50° C for 1 hour or-10°C for 24 hours killed all stages of B. lambi. Thus, heating treatment during well-executed phase II composting and freezing of mushroom spawn at-10° C for 24 hours should eliminate or at least reduce the damage to mushrooms by this pest.  相似文献

The mushroom phorid fly, Megaselia halterata (Wood) (Diptera: Phoridae), is a key pest in mushroom farming in most parts of the world. Studies on the mushroom phorid fly have focused on its life history within mushroom growing houses, but little is known about the fly's activity outside mushroom growing houses. In this study, daily activity and distribution of adult M. halterata in the areas surrounding mushroom growing houses was studied using yellow sticky traps. Results suggest that M. halterata focuses its flight activity over turf areas rather than windbreaks and spent compost piles, possibly for mating purposes. Our study found no evidence of M. halterata breeding in turf areas surrounding mushroom growing houses. In addition, flight activity is highest in the afternoon until midnight at higher temperatures, yet at lower temperatures activity ceases after sunset. Establishing temperature and daylight thresholds for M. halterata flight activity may be useful in developing integrated pest management (IPM) tactics for this species. The most successful IPM tool that mushroom growers use at present is fly exclusion. Exclusion can be improved by focusing farm operations around temperature and daylight thresholds when fly activity is at its lowest.  相似文献

Earlier, a pollen-specific Oryza sativa indica pollen allergen gene (OSIPA), coding for expansins/pollen allergens, was isolated from rice, and its promoter—upon expression in tobacco and Arabidopsis—was found active during the late stages of pollen development. In this investigation, to analyze the effects of different putative regulatory motifs of OSIPA promoter, a series of 5′ deletions were fused to β-glucuronidase gene (GUS) which were stably introduced into rice and Arabidopsis. Histochemical GUS analysis of the transgenic plants revealed that a 1631 bp promoter fragment mediates maximum GUS expression at different stages of anther/pollen development. Promoter deletions to −1272, −966, −617, and −199 bp did not change the expression profile of the pollen specificity. However, the activity of promoter was reduced as the length of promoter decreased. The region between −1567 and −199 bp was found adequate to confer pollen-specific expression in both rice and Arabidopsis systems. An approximate 4-fold increase in the GUS activity was observed in the pollen of rice when compared to that of Arabidopsis. As such, the OSIPA promoter seems promising for generation of stable male-sterile lines required for the production of hybrids in rice and other crop plants.  相似文献

Two Coffea arabicaHemileia vastatrix incompatible interactions (I1: coffee cv. Caturra — rust race VI and I2: coffee cv S4 Agaro — rust race II) and a compatible interaction (coffee cv. Caturra — rust race II) were compared in relation to the infection process and chitinase activity. In the two incompatible interactions the fungus ceased growth in the early infection stages, while in the compatible interaction no fungus growth inhibition was observed. A high constitutive level of chitinase activity was detected in the intercellular fluid of healthy leaves. Upon infection, chitinase isoforms were more abundant in incompatible interactions than in the compatible interaction. Immunodetection showed that class I chitinases are particularly relevant in the incompatible interactions and might participate in the defence response of the coffee plants.  相似文献

Declining Wild Mushroom Recognition and Usage in Burkina Faso   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Declining Wild Mushroom Recognition and Usage in Burkina Faso. Ethnomycological investigation was carried out in Burkina Faso, West Africa, using standardized interviews focused on 40 representative mushroom species assembled in a traveling herbarium (photographs plus preserved specimens). A total of 540 informants from 18 localities representing three main ethnic groups—Mòosé, Bobo, and Gouin—were interviewed, though the bulk of those interviewed were Mòosé (or Mossi) from the more populous central region of the country. Among the study species, as many as 24 were considered edible by the different ethnic groups; a few medicinal uses also were noted. The edibility of a common Chlorophyllum species is confirmed for the three ethnic groups. Mushroom nomenclature is not well developed in any of the three groups as evidenced by the fact that many mushrooms, including some common edible species, do not appear to have specific local names, but are instead simply referred to by a general term for “mushroom.” Preliminary observations about inter–ethnic variation in recognition, naming, and appreciation of mushrooms are noted. Older people recognized many more mushroom species than did younger people, and women appeared to be slightly more knowledgeable about mushrooms than men. The most important finding is that the gathering and consumption of wild edible mushrooms seems to be dying out in Burkina Faso, especially in the central part of the country, apparently because of declining mushroom populations resulting from disappearing forest habitats. Insecticidal proteins produced by strains of Bacillus thuringenesis are specific toward target pests. One of the Bt proteins, Cry 1Ac has been used successfully for controlling crop predation by polyphagous pests Helicoverpa armigera. Structurally, Bt proteins consist of three domains; domain I and III are fairly homologous in various Bt proteins while domain II is hypervariable. The hypervariable domain II is believed to be responsible for specificity toward target pest. Successful deployment of Bt proteins requires knowledge of its specificity toward the insect. Various Bt proteins have been characterized for activity against coleopteran pests. Some Bt proteins of class Cry6 have been found to be active against potato weevil. We have evaluated the activity of Cry6B protein (BGSC-4D8) against lucerne weevil, Hypera postica, which is a major pest of forage crop Medicago sativa. Results revealed that the purified Cry6B protein is significantly active against the coleopteran pest with LC50 value 280 ng/μl. The leaves coated with the purified Cry6 toxin were three times less damaged as compared with the negative control.  相似文献

Heme-thiolate haloperoxidases are undoubtedly the most versatile biocatalysts of the hemeprotein family and share catalytic properties with at least three further classes of heme-containing oxidoreductases, namely, classic plant and fungal peroxidases, cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, and catalases. For a long time, only one enzyme of this type—the chloroperoxidase (CPO) of the ascomycete Caldariomyces fumago—has been known. The enzyme is commercially available as a fine chemical and catalyzes the unspecific chlorination, bromination, and iodation (but no fluorination) of a variety of electrophilic organic substrates via hypohalous acid as actual halogenating agent. In the absence of halide, CPO resembles cytochrome P450s and epoxidizes and hydroxylates activated substrates such as organic sulfides and olefins; aromatic rings, however, are not susceptible to CPO-catalyzed oxygen-transfer. Recently, a second fungal haloperoxidase of the heme-thiolate type has been discovered in the agaric mushroom Agrocybe aegerita. The UV–Vis adsorption spectrum of the isolated enzyme shows little similarity to that of CPO but is almost identical to a resting-state P450. The Agrocybe aegerita peroxidase (AaP) has strong brominating as well as weak chlorinating and iodating activities, and catalyzes both benzylic and aromatic hydroxylations (e.g., of toluene and naphthalene). AaP and related fungal peroxidases could become promising biocatalysts in biotechnological applications because they seemingly fill the gap between CPO and P450 enzymes and act as “self-sufficient” peroxygenases. From the environmental point of view, the existence of a halogenating mushroom enzyme is interesting because it could be linked to the multitude of halogenated compounds known from these organisms.  相似文献

Isolates from eight species of Agaricus were investigated in laboratory experiments for their effect on the development of the mushroom sciarid fly, Lycoriella ingenua (Dufour) (Diptera: Sciaridae), which is an important pest of the white mushroom Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Imbach (Agaricaceae). The population levels of L. ingenua developing in compost inoculated with Agaricus mycelium varied with the Agaricus isolate used, with some isolates causing high levels of inhibition. The development of L. ingenua populations and the survival of larval instars were inversely proportional to the amount of Agaricus inoculum applied. There was also a negative relationship between L. ingenua survival and the extension rate of the Agaricus isolate in compost. The results suggest that inhibition of L. ingenua population development by Agaricus is linked to the rate at which compost is colonized by fungal mycelium. Therefore, on mushroom farms, sciarid fly control should focus on protection of the compost before it has become colonized by mycelium, as this is when it is most vulnerable to the pest.  相似文献

Candida parapsilosis is yeast capable of forming biofilms on medical devices. Novel approaches for the prevention and eradication of the biofilms are desired. This study investigated the anticandidal activity of sixteen essential oils on planktonic and biofilm cultures of C. parapsilosis complex. We used molecular tools, enumeration of colony-forming units, the colourimetric MTT assay, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a chequerboard assay coupled with software analyses to evaluate the growth kinetics, architecture, inhibition and reduction in biofilms formed from environmental isolates of the Candida parapsilosis complex; further, we also evaluated whether essential oils would interact synergistically with amphotericin B to increase their anticandidal activities. Of the environmental C. parapsilosis isolates examined, C. parapsilosis and C. orthopsilosis were identified. Biofilm growth on polystyrene substrates peaked within 48 h, after which growth remained relatively stable up to 72 h, when it began to decline. Details of the architectural analysis assessed by SEM showed that C. parapsilosis complex formed less complex biofilms compared with C. albicans biofilms. The most active essential oil was cinnamon oil (CO), which showed anticandidal activity against C. orthopsilosis and C. parapsilosis in both suspension (minimum inhibitory concentration—MIC—250 and 500 μg/ml) and biofilm (minimum biofilm reduction concentration—MBRC—1,000 and 2,000 μg/ml) cultures. CO also inhibited biofilm formation (MBIC) at concentrations above 250 μg/ml for both species tested. However, synergism with amphotericin B was not observed. Thus, CO is a natural anticandidal agent that can be effectively utilised for the control of the yeasts tested.  相似文献

The Houses That Matsutake Built. In the mountains of northwest Yunnan, China, a valuable mushroom, matsutake or song rong (Tricholoma matsutake) was commodified in the 1980s. Since that time, it has been exported in large quantities to Japan. The sale of matsutake now contributes more to the income of Shangri-la County (Diqing Autonomous Tibetan Prefecture) than any other crop, including timber and livestock. During the 1980s and 1990s, villagers in this remote region used their mushroom earnings to build spacious, beautiful new houses in the traditional local (Kham) style, and in some cases to buy motor vehicles or open businesses. In villages with access to productive matsutake habitat, virtually every household was able to build a new house; entire villages were transformed. During the 1990s, several villages developed locally based management regimes to enhance production and to address the problems and conflicts that arose from the harvest of such a valuable product. More recently, government agencies and NGOs have played a highly visible role in promoting “sustainable” harvest policies. The implications of their involvement are briefly examined and the future of matsutake harvest in Yunnan is discussed.  相似文献

A novel mycovirus was isolated from a cultivated edible mushroom, Pleurotus eryngii, with severe epidemic symptoms. Purification of the virus was carried out by a sequential procedure of polyethylene glycol precipitation, differential centrifugation, and equilibrium centrifugation in a CsCl gradient. Nuclease digestion assay and protein analysis revealed that the virus consisted of a single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) genome of 7.8 kbp which was encapsulated by a coat protein of 22 kDa. Transmission electron microscope showed that it was spherical with a diameter of 31 nm. Since there was neither a previous report on discovery of a virus in P. eryngii, nor known mushroom viruses with similar characteristics, we concluded that this is a novel virus and thus have named it as P. e ryngii Spherical Virus (PeSV). Because of a diagnostic test would be helpful in preventing the PeSV-related disease outbreaks, we developed a triple antibody sandwich-ELISA (TAS–ELISA) system using anti-PeSV mouse monoclonal and anti-PeSV rabbit polyclonal antibodies. The TAS–ELISA system successfully detected less than 0.5 μg of the virus particles in 1 g diseased mushroom tissue collected from various commercial farms.  相似文献

This study was conducted in order to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for the in vitro culture response of winter rye (Secale cereale L.) immature embryos and immature inflorescences. A genetic linkage map comprising 67 SSRs, 9 ISSRs, 13 SAMPLs, 7 RAPDs, 2 SCARs and one EST marker was created based on the analyses of 102 recombinant inbred lines from the cross between lines L318 (which has a good response in tissue cultures) and L9 (which is unable to regenerate plants from somatic tissues and anthers). The map spans 979.2 cM, and the average distance between markers is 9.9 cM. Two characteristics were evaluated: callus induction (CI) and somatic embryogenesis ability (SE). They were expressed as the percentage of immature embryos/inflorescences producing callus (designated ECI/ICI) and the percentage of explants producing somatic embryos (ESE/ISE). All the analysed traits showed continuous variation in the mapping population but a non-normal frequency distribution. We identified nine putative QTLs controlling the tissue culture response of rye, explaining up to 41.6% of the total phenotypic variation: two QTLs for ECI — eci-1, eci-2; 4 for ESE — ece-1, ese-2, ese-3, ese-4; 2 for ICI — ici-1, ici2; and 1 for ISE — ise-1. They were detected on chromosomes 1R, 4R, 5R, 6R and 7R.  相似文献

Two cases are presented of severe pneumococcal infections in infants caused by serotype 14 Streptococcus pneumoniae. The first case — meningitis — caused by S. pneumoniae (pneumococcus) with lowlevel penicillin susceptibility has developed from acute otitis media and resulted in fatal outcome. The second one — an immunocompromised child presenting recurrent otitis and chronic mastoiditis developed into pneumococcal pneumonia. Both cases demonstrate the extreme importance of a relevant initial treatment of localized pneumococcal infections, preventing the development of generalized infection. Amoxicillin (an oral treatment option in both upper and lower respiratory tract infections caused also by Pneumococcus strains with low-level penicillin susceptibility due to its beneficial pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) was not used in either case.  相似文献

We investigated, (i) whether the emergence from pupation of two coleopteran pest insect groups in oilseed rape (OSR, Brassica napus L.)—pollen beetles (Meligethes spp. F., Nitidulidae) and stem weevils (Ceutorhynchus pallidactylus Marsh and C. napi Gyll., Curculionidae)—is affected by the exclusion of ground-dwelling predatory arthropods, and (ii) the role for pest control of the widely abundant carabid beetles Anchomenus dorsalis Pontop. and Poecilus cupreus L. Densities of ground-dwelling arthropods were manipulated using enclosures; emerging pest adults were assessed using emergence traps. Where arthropods had been excluded, between two (June sampling) and tenfold (August sampling) more stem weevils emerged than where predators had free access. The addition of 25 adult A. dorsalis m−2 to formerly predator-free enclosures showed similar stem weevil emergence than plots where predators had free access; the addition of 25 adult P. cupreus m−2 did not reduce stem weevil emergence. In August, both A. dorsalis and P. cupreus additions marginally significantly reduced pollen beetle emergence. Handling editor: Patrick De Clercq.  相似文献
