We report plasmonic lenses consisting of coupled nanoslits immersed in a high-index medium to obtain the robustly efficient superfocusing. Based on the geometrical optics and the wavefront reconstruction theory, an array of nanoslits perforated in a gold film and a series of spacings between adjacent nanoslits are optimally designed to realize the desired phase modulation for light focusing. The numerical results verify the design of each plasmonic lens in excellent agreement. For the given total phase difference of 2π, the immersion plasmonic lenses with smaller lens aperture can have much better focusing performance than the non-immersion one. A superfocusing spot of λ/4.39 is achieved using an oil immersion plasmonic lens with an aperture size of 4.97λ, resulting in a resolution improvement of 68.9 % compared with the non-immersion lens. Moreover, such superfocusing performance can be still well kept when the structural parameters of the lens, e.g., nanoslit width and metal film thickness, are deviated from the original design, making the final implementation of the superfocusing lenses much easier.  相似文献

We provide both experimental and theoretical investigation on extraordinary low transmission through one-dimensional nanoslit and two-dimensional nanohole arrays on ultra-thin metal films. Unambiguous proofs demonstrate that short-range surface plasmon polaritons play a key role leading to this novel phenomenon, which could be useful for creating new polarization filters and other integrated plasmonic components.  相似文献

The generation efficiency of surface plasmon polaritons at metallic nanoslit is theoretically analyzed, and a novel plasmonic lens with two semiannular nanoslits is proposed in this paper. Based on the analysis results, the focusing performance of the proposal is optimized with a maximum field intensity enhancement factor of 7.69 and the full width at half maximum is 132 nm (~0.2λ i), far beyond theoretical diffraction limit. Meanwhile, some other classical plasmonic lenses are also optimized through improving generation efficiency of surface plasmon polaritons at nanoslit and the focusing performances are consequently greatly enhanced.  相似文献

The detection sensitivities of gap plasmons in gold nanoslit arrays are studied and compared with surface plasmons on outside surface. The nanoslit arrays were fabricated in a 130 nm-thick gold film with various slit widths. For transverse-magnetic (TM) incident wave, the 600 nm-period nanoslit array shows two distinguishable transmission peaks corresponding to the resonances of gap plasmons and surface plasmons, respectively. The surface sensitivities for both modes were compared by coating thin SiO(2) film and different biomolecules on the nanoslit arrays. Our experimental results verify gap plasmons are more sensitive than conventional surface plasmons. Its detection sensitivity increases with the decrease of slit width. The gap plasmon is one order of magnitude sensitive than the surface plasmon for slit widths smaller than 30 nm. We attribute this high sensitivity to the large overlap between biomolecules and nanometer-sized gap plasmons.  相似文献

Active plasmonic devices are mostly designed at visible frequencies. Here, we propose an active terahertz (THz) plasmonic lens tuned by an external magnetic field. Unlike other tunable devices where the tuning is achieved by changing the plasma frequency of materials, the proposed active lens is tuned by changing the cyclotron frequency through manipulating magnetoplasmons (MPs). We have theoretically investigated the dispersion relation of MPs of a semiconductor?Cinsulator?Csemiconductor structure in the Voigt configuration and systematically designed several lenses realized with a doped semiconductor slab perforated with sub-wavelength slits. It is shown through finite?Cdifference time?Cdomain simulations that THz wave propagating through the designed structure can be focused to a small size spot via the control of MPs. The tuning range of the focal length under the applied magnetic field (up to 1?T) is ??3??, about 50% of the original focal length. Various lenses, including one with two focal spots and a tunable lens for dipole source imaging, are realized for the proposed structure, demonstrating the flexibility of the design approach. The proposed tunable THz plasmonic lenses may find applications in THz science and technology such as THz imaging.  相似文献

Although spiral plasmonic lens has been proposed as circular polarization analyzer, there is no such plasmonic nanostructure available for linear polarization. In the current work, we have designed nano-corral slits (NCS) plasmonic lens, which focuses the x- and y-polarized light into spatially distinguished plasmonic fields. We have calculated analytically and numerically the electric field intensity and phase of the emission from nano-corral slits plasmonic lens with different pitch lengths under various polarizations of the illumination. It has been shown that one can control the wave front of the output beam of these plasmonic lenses by manipulating the illumination of both circular and linear polarization. Our theoretical study in correlation with FDTD simulation has shown that NCS plasmonic lens with pitch length equal to λspp produces scalar vortex beam having optical complex fields with helical wave front and optical singularity at the center under circular polarization of light. When NCS lens (pitch = λspp) is illuminated with linearly polarized light, it exhibits binary distribution of phase with same electric field intensity around the center. However, with pitch length of 0.5λspp, NCS shows linear dichroism under linearly polarized illumination unlike spiral plasmonic lens (SPL) eliminating the use of circularly polarized light. Optical complex fields produced by these NCS plasmonic lenses may find applications for faster quantum computing, data storage, and telecommunications.

An Integrated Multistage Nanofocusing System   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We demonstrate an integrated multistage nanofocusing system which combines a conventional objective, a surface plasmonic lens, and a center-positioned rounded-tip cone nanoparticle. The surface plasmonic lens, fabricated on the cover glass which has been mounted on the biological microscopic objective, is composed of several concentric annular slits for exciting propagating surface plasmonic wave. The rounded-tip cone nanoparticle is for further generating non-propagating localized surface plasmonic wave. It is revealed that the enhancement of the nanoscale optical field can be improved by carefully choosing the appropriate numerical aperture of the objective to match the specific nanostructure of the surface plasmonic lens and choosing the relatively big cone angle of the nanoparticle. The investigation shows that a highly confined electric field as small as 20 nm and an enhancement factor of 5 orders of magnitude can be achieved through this multistage nanofocusing system when the system is illuminated with a uniform radially polarized beam.  相似文献

We numerically study the extraordinary optical transmission of a plasmonic structure that combines a circular nanoantenna and a vertical annular nanoslit etched into a gold film under radially polarized illumination. The nanoantenna collects the incident field and localizes it in a horizontal Fabry-Pérot cavity over the gold film. The vertical nanoslit positioned at the maximal field in the horizontal cavity couples the localized field and facilitates its transmission to the free space. Due to the symmetry matching between the structure and the illumination polarization, surface plasmons can be excited effectively and enhance the transmission. Through optimizing the structure parameters, the transmission efficiency can be greatly enhanced by 225 times for a resonant annular nanoslit and 251 times for a non-resonant annular nanoslit. This axisymmetric extraordinary optical transmission setup may be fabricated on the facet of an optical fiber for optical sensing applications.  相似文献

Under specific illumination conditions, periodic arrays of metal–dielectric–metal (MDM) waveguides act as uniform optical phased-array antenna where the phase of the radiating optical wave can be controlled by modifying the refractive index distribution of the dielectric material. Based on this property, we propose a planar gradient index MDM-based lens which can transform spherical waves of the transverse-magnetic surface plasmon polariton waves to plane waves with specific beam deflections by adjusting the refractive index configurations. Using numerical simulations based on two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method, it is confirmed that beam focusing and splitting with multiple dflection angles can also be achieved.  相似文献

A super lens system is proposed to achieve subdiffraction limit demagnification imaging. The super lens system consists of a hyperlens with planar input and output surfaces, a metal superlens, and a plasmonic reflector. By employing the hyperlens to transform evanescent waves into propagating waves and employing the metal superlens and the plasmonic reflector to amplify evanescent waves, the super lens system can produce a subdiffraction limit image with relatively high electric field intensity. The reduction factor of the super lens system depends on the geometric parameters of the hyperlens. Simulation results show that an image with a half-pitch resolution of about one tenth the operating wavelength and a reduction factor of about 2.2 can be produced by the super lens system. The proposed super lens system has potential applications in nanolithography.  相似文献

The plasmonic integrated circuit, a potential application of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), can manipulate an SPP wave propagating on a metal surface in a way similar to electronic circuits. Here, we propose the concept of three-dimensional (3D) SPP wave manipulation: control of an SPP wave propagating in both the horizontal direction and the vertical direction. A hole set in the film can guide an SPP wave in the vertical direction. In the horizontal direction, two holographic groove patterns are used to focus an incident SPP wave on one surface of the film to the hole and control the divergent SPP waves transmitted from the hole on the other metal surface, respectively. The holographic groove patterns are designed via the methodology of surface electromagnetic wave holography. 3D finite-difference time-domain method simulations show a good performance of the 3D manipulation via these designed holographic groove patterns.

We theoretically study mode hybridization and interaction among surface plasmon polariton Bloch wave mode, Fabry–Perot cavity mode, and waveguide mode within a plasmonic cavity composed by two parallel planar bimetallic gratings. Four hybridized modes result from mode hybridization between surface plasmon polariton Bloch wave modes on the two gratings are observed. By changing the dielectric environment, mode hybridization behavior can be manipulated. Importantly, waveguide-plasmon polariton mode due to hybridization between grating supported surface plasmon polariton Bloch wave mode and cavity supported waveguide mode is observed. We demonstrate that surface plasmon polariton Bloch wave mode and Fabry–Perot cavity mode with the same mode symmetry can interact by presenting an anticrossing behavior, which can be controlled by laterally shifting one grating with respect to the other that causes a phase difference shift of the two involving modes. The proposed plasmonic cavity offers potentials for subwavelength lithography, tunable plasmonic filter, and controllable light-matter interaction.  相似文献

A design method of a micron-focusing plasmonic lens is proposed, which consists of a nanoaperture surrounded by concentric annular grooves with fixed width and depth. The phase modulation of the radiation lights decoupled from surface plasmon polariton waves by the annular grooves is realized by altering the radii of the grooves. Based on the principle of the constructive interference, a design formula of a micron-focusing plasmonic lens is deduced. The transmitted fields through the designed plasmonic lenses are numerically simulated with finite-difference time-domain method, and the results show that a circular focusing spot is generated where the focal length can be controlled in several micrometers, which agree with our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

This study proposes the time-evolved plasmonic photonic Bloch oscillations (PBOs) in a composite metal–insulator–metal (CMIM) waveguide structure. This device contains two kinds of MIM waveguide with different thickness of the insulator gaps. The time-resolved plasmonic PBO motion in this CMIM waveguide can be observed by introducing a linearly graded dielectric material. The ray trajectory results from the Hamiltonian optics are consistent with the finite-difference time-domain simulation results.  相似文献

We present a quantum mechanical approach to calculate broadening of plasmonic resonances in metallic nanostructures due to collisions of electrons with the surface of the structure. The approach is applicable if the characteristic size of the structure is much larger than the de Broglie electron wavelength in the metal. The approach can be used in studies of plasmonic properties of both single nanoparticles and arrays of nanoparticles. Energy conservation is insured by a self-consistent solution of Maxwell's equations and our model for the photon absorption at the metal boundaries. Consequences of the model are illustrated for the case of spheroid nanoparticles, and results are in good agreement with earlier theories. In particular, we show that the boundary-collision broadening of the plasmonic resonance in spheroid nanoparticles can depend strongly on the polarization of the impinging light.  相似文献

We design and fabricate a nonplanar two-stage surface plasmonic lens composed of concentric circular slits for exciting propagating surface plasmonic wave and a center-positioned cone-like nanoparticle for generating localized surface plasmonic waves. The numerical investigation based on the finite difference in time domain method is performed. It is found that, when a radially polarized beam illumination is applied, a highly confined electric field with full width half maximum of as small as 6 nm and the transmission enhancement factor of six orders higher than the incident beam is achievable. The optimization design is conducted through comparison of different conic angles and different materials of the cone-like nanoparticles.  相似文献

In this paper, we discussed the influence of a plasmonic lens with V-shaped metallic subwavelength slits and variant periods on transmission properties. In order to analyze the influence, a finite-difference time-domain numerical algorithm was adopted for computational numerical simulation of the plasmonic structures. The structures are flanked with the penetrated slits through a metal (Ag) film which is coated on a quartz substrate. Our simulation results demonstrated that different cone angles originated from the V-shaped slits generate different influences on the beam propagation. The width variation affects the intensity significantly. The cone angles formed by the V-shaped slits can change the focusing performance. These results are very encouraging for future study of the plasmonic lens-based applications.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new far-field nanofocusing lens with elongated depth of focus (DOF) under near-infrared (NIR) wavelength. The surface plasmons can be excited by using the hybrid metal–insulator–metal (MIM) subwavelength structure under the NIR wavelength. The constructive interference of surface plasmons launched by the subwavelength MIM structure can form a nanoscale focus that is modulated by the novel metal grating from the near field to the far field. The numerical simulations demonstrated that a nanoscale focal spot (in plane focal area 0.177λ 2) with elongated DOF (3.358λ) and long focal length (5.084λ) can be realized with reasonably designing parameters of the lens. By controlling the positions of the inner radii of each slit ring and the grating width, the focal length, focal spot, and DOF can be tuned easily. This design method, which can obtain the nanoscale focal spot and micron DOF in far field under NIR illumination, paved the road for utilizing the NIR plasmonic lens in superresolution optical microscopic imaging, optical trapping, biosensing, and complex wavefront/beam shaper.  相似文献

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) manipulation on metal surfaces is important for constructing ultracompact integrated micro/nano-optical devices and systems. We employ the methodology of surface electromagnetic wave holography (SWH) to design holographic groove patterns for controlling SPPs with complicated wavefronts traveling on metal surface. SPPs are scattered by these deli groove patterns and interfere with each other to form desired SPP wavefronts. Several devices are demonstrated to control the intensities and phases of SPPs, such as focusing a plane SPP or diverging SPPs to two points with different phases, and focusing SPPs with complicated beam profile to a point. The finite-difference time-domain simulations show that in all cases, the predesignated functionalities are fully achieved by the designed plasmonic holographic structures. The results strongly support the power of SWH for shaping the complicated wavefront of in-plane transporting SPPs.  相似文献
